The article attempts at analyzing the scientific problems included in the works of the famous scholar from Voronezh State University Vladislav Anatol’evich Svitel’skiy about the creative activity of A. Platonov. The scholar’s studies before and after the abolition of strict censorship outlined the benchmarks in the investigation of the writer’s legacy, which have not always been properly interpreted in modern science. The urgency of the paper consists in reestablishing a true dialogue with the works of the literary critics, who were among the first to describe the writer’s artistic world, and in revealing adequate interpretations of their ideas. Methodologically, the article is based on the theoretical views of V. A. Svitel’skiy, stemming from the nature of the talent of the great scholar from Voronezh. The scholar focuses on the principles of philosophical-poetical generalization in the prose of Platonov, the image of the author and the means of expression of the author’s position under the conditions of creation of censored works, the genre nature of “Chevengur”, his gender specificity, “participation” of the lyrical dominant in the modeling of the democratic consciousness in the novel as one of the great achievements of Platonov’s artistic talent. The retrospective approach made it possible to concentrate attention on the urgency of a number of Svitel’skiy’s ideas in the contemporary Platonov studies and to simultaneously realize the modern tendencies in the study of the writer’s legacy and their perspectives. The conclusions of the article are based on the detailed study of the papers written by Svitel’skiy and the works of the scholars developing his ideas, as well as on his activity as editor and publisher. He was editor-in-chief of the “Philological Notes” of Voronezh University founded by A. A. Khovanskiy in 1860. He initiated the creation of the “Platonov Vestnik”, an information bulletin, which reflected the “new findings” of foreign scholars about Platonov. Due to his continuous effort, the number of scholars from various countries engaged in serious studies of Platonov’s texts grew considerably to include H. Günther (Germany), T. Langerak (Netherlands), M. Liubushkina-Koch (France), etc. The reflections about the fate of scientific ideas and their implementation in real life are mentioned in Svitel’skiy’s letters. Their author is a real Teacher – a clever and a patient one.

Lotman as well as the significance of his works for structural semiotics in literary criticism of the 20th century.

The article considers the role of Lotman in the creation of the Tartu-Moscow semiotic school and the significance of the works of Lotman in the field of structuralism, as well as possible reasons for the scientific evolution of Lotman from the study of the history of literature and the structure of the literary text to the investigation of culture as a dynamic process and as a manifestation of the complex interaction between cultural texts and cultural codes.

The paper will explore Yurii M. Lotman's uses of the concept of a ternary system. It is born as a response to the limitations of the semiotic models based on binary oppositions. At the same time, binaries for Lotman are closely connected to Russia's cultural dynamic, and therefore, this seemingly “pure” theoretical concept appears heavily charged with political meanings.

В статье рассматривается вклад Ю. М. Лотмана в развитие основных положений теории литературы, которые сыграли исключительно важную роль в филологической науке. In the article, the author tries to assess the contribution of Yu. M. Lotman to the development of basic concepts of literary theory, which, along with the study of the problems of culture studies and the history of Russian literature, played an extremely important role in philological science.

The article features an excerpt from Chumakov's memoirs, describing how, in the late 1960s, he got acquainted with Lotman's book Lectures on Structural Poetics and then met the author of the lectures at the Pushkin Conference in Pskov.

Among the ways of deciphering “incomprehensible places”, this publication examines a joint article by scientists in 1974, where a “forgotten” memoir about A. Blok is presented. The methodology of the approach to little-known ego texts outlined in the article served to develop a possible commentary on the evidence of the Block's activities in the last years of his life, as well as to the interpretation of his droppings in notebooks.

The urgency of the article is due to new requirements for the structure and content of a dictionary entry in the theory of modern lexicography and the need to increase the semantic capacity of the interpretationof meaning by including restrictive information. At the same time, the issue of restrictive components in lexicographicpractice has not been finally resolved; however, many modern ideas can already be traced in the "Explanatory Dictionary of the Living Great Russian Language" by V. I. Dahl.

В статье обосновывается корреляция толкового словаря В. И. Даля с принципами создания современных ассоциативных словарей. The author substantiates the correlation of Dahl's explanatory dictionary,based on the principle of word family method of organization of material, with the principles of compiling modern associative dictionaries, where the word appears in the light of its psychological significance for the everydayconsciousness of concrete native speakers.

The article reviews the two-volume book “Studies in the History and Theory of Literary Translation” by E. G. Etkind, the first volume of which is the monograph “Poetry and Translation” (1963), and the second one contains 11 articles published in different years. The publication of the book was timed to coincide with the centenary of the birth of E. G. Etkind (1918-1999), a Leningrad professor, literary critic, translator, and scholar who played a significant role in the development of the aesthetics of poetry translation. From 1974 the scholar was in forced emigration and until 1985 his name was banned, and all his works were withdrawn from libraries.
