The aim of this study was to evaluate the frequency of abuse and its effect on life satisfaction in older adults living in our region.This research is a cross-sectional study. The participants of the study were an elderly population who applied to one 'family health centre'. The study was completed with the participation of 332 people. The study was carried out between June and July 2021. A questionnaire form, Geriatric Mistreatment Scale (GMS), Hwalek-Sengstock Elder Abuse Screening Test (H-S/EAST), and Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS) were used in the study.According to the GMS, 16.0% of the participants experience abuse. Psychological abuse (6.92%) was the highest according to the GMS sub-dimensions. This was followed by physical abuse (6.6%), neglect (1.8%), economic abuse (1.5%), and sexual abuse (1.5%). According to H-S/EAST, 22.9% of participants experience abuse. The perpetrators of abuse are mostly spouses, children and relatives of the elderly. There is a negative correlation between the H-S/EAST score and the SWLS score. Uneducated elderly people are exposed to abuse more than primary education graduates. Compared to the elderly living in a nuclear family, more abuse is seen in extended families and those living alone.The fact that the houses in which the elderly live are not physically suitable increases the risk of abuse. Identifying and trying to minimise local risk factors for elder abuse can help reduce the prevalence of abuse. We hope that these data will be a guide for future intervention studies.

Amaç: Bu çalışmada sağlık alanında şiddetin tıp fakültesi öğrencilerinin kaygı durumunu, umut düzeyini ve mesleğe bakışına etkisinin araştırılması amaçlanmıştır.Materyal ve Metot: Bu tanımlayıcı kesitsel araştırma; Kütahya Sağlık Bilimleri Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi’nde 4. 5. ve 6. Sınıf 214 öğrenciye anket formu, Sürekli Kaygı Ölçeği, Beck Umutsuzluk Ölçeği kullanılarak yapılmıştır. Bulgular: Katılımcıların 132’si (%61,7) şiddete tanık olmuştur. Şiddete tanık olan öğrencilerin 123’ü (%93,2) sözel, 15’i (%11,4) fiziksel, 6’sı (%4,5) hem sözel hem fiziksel şiddete tanık olmuştur. Katılımcıların 50’si (%23,5) şiddete maruz kalmıştır. Şiddete maruz kalan öğrencilerin 48’i (%96,0) sözel, 2’si (%4,0) fiziksel şiddete maruz kalmıştır. Sürekli Kaygı ölçeği sınıflamasına göre öğrencilerin 33’ü (%15,4) düşük kaygı, 174’ü (%81,8) orta kaygı, 6’sı (%2,8) yüksek kaygı düzeyi olarak bulunmuştur. Beck umutsuzluk ölçeği sınıflamasına göre öğrencilerin 65’i (%30,4) umutsuz değil, 81’i (%37,9) hafif umutsuz, 49’u (%22,9) orta umutsuz, 19’u (%8,9) ileri umutsuz olarak bulunmuştur.Sonuç: Bu çalışmaya göre, sağlıkta şiddete tanık olma ve maruz kalma tıp fakültesinde öğrencilik döneminden itibaren başlamaktadır.

Objective: This aim of the study is to establish the risk perception scale for drinking-using water (RPDUW) and to make the validity-reliability analysis.Material and Methods: This is a methodological study conducted between April and June 2019. The sample size was planned to be 20 times the number of questions on the scale and was determined to be at least 200 people. The city center in Kutahya and 234 village headmen from 3 randomly selected districts were included in the study. Study data were collected with the questionnaire form. In the first part of the questionnaire, the socio-demographic characteristics of the participants and in the second part, “RPDUW” and “Health Perception Scale (HPS)” questions were included. The RPDUW scale questions consist of 8 Likert-type questions that were created by searching the literature. The data were evaluated by the SPSS program.Results: The study included 234 male participants with a mean age of 48.31 ± 9.49 years. The mean score of the RPDUW scale was 27.94 ± 8.72 (min: 8-max: 40). KMO coefficient was 0.792 and Bartlett test result was found to be highly significant (X2=810,23; p=0,001). According to factor analysis, the variance explained in the one-dimensional structure was 63.9%and the factor loadings of the 8 items in the scale varied between 0.46-0.84.In order to test concurrent criterion validity, a positive correlation between HPS and RPDUW scale scores was predicted. A positive correlation was found between the mean score of RPDUW and mean SAÖ scores (r: 0.352 p, Amaç: Bu çalışmanın amacı, “içme-kullanma suları risk algısı (İKSURA)” ölçeğinin oluşturulması, geçerlilik-güvenirlilik analizlerinin yapılmasıdır.Gereç ve Yöntemler: Çalışma, Nisan-Haziran 2019 tarihleri arasında yürütülen metodolojik türde bir çalışmadır. Çalışma için örneklem sayısının ölçekteki soru sayısının 20 katı olması planlandı ve en az 200 kişi olarak belirlendi. İKSURA ölçeğinin puan ortalaması 27.94±8.72 (min:8-max:40) idi. KMO katsayısı 0,792 ve Barlet test sonucu ileri düzeyde (X2=810,23; p=0,001) anlamlı bulundu. Faktör analizine göre tek boyutlu yapıda açıklanan varyans %63,9 olup, ölçekteki 8 maddenin faktör yüklerinin 0,46-0,84 arasında değiştiği saptandı. Çocukların vakitlerinin büyük bir bölümünü geçirdikleri okul iç ortam havasından etkilenimleri ve sonuçları konusunda hassasiyet göstermemiz önemlidir. Bu çalışmada bazı okullarda iç ortam hava kalitesini değerlendirmek ve bununla ilgili projelerde kullanmak için İç Ortam Hava Kalitesi İndeksi (İHKİ) geliştirmek amaçlanmıştır. 1-31 Ekim 2018 tarihleri arasında Kütahya ilinde yer alan okullarda yapılan kesitsel bir çalışmadır. Kırsal ve kentsel bölgelerden seçilen okullarda, 5 bina ve 42 sınıf iç ortamında sıcaklık, nem, PM2.5 ve PM10 ve CO2 ölçümleri yapılmıştır. İHKİ; PM2.5, PM10 ve CO2 değerlerinin DSÖ kriterlerine bölünüp aritmetik ortalaması alınarak hesaplandı. Sıcaklık ve nem ölçümleri normal değerler arasında olduğundan hesaplamaya katılmadı. İHKİ yükseldikçe İHK kötü olarak yorumlanmaktadır. Ölçümsel verilerin değerlendirmesinde ortalama, ortanca ve standart sapma değerleri, ilişki için Spearman korelasyon analizi kullanıldı. İHKİ ortalaması 4,85 ± 1,63 idi. İHKİ kentsel bölgede yer alan okulda kırsal alana göre daha kötü saptandı (p=0,024). İHKİ ile sınıfların hacimleri (metreküpü) arasında korelasyon bulunamazken (r=0,156 - p=0,331), sınıf mevcudu arttıkça İHKİ’nin kötüleştiği (r=0,384 - p=0,013) saptandı. Çalışmamızda İHKİ değeri, kentsel bölgede ve mevcudu fazla olan sınıflarda daha yüksek olarak bulundu. Çalışmamızda iç ortam havasındaki PM ve CO2 değerleri kullanılarak İHKİ hesabı yapıldığından, farklı iç ortamlarda biyolojik ve kimyasal kirletici parametrelerin dahil edilerek hesaplama yapılmasının daha yararlı olacağı söylenebilir.

Ülkemizde alkollü araç sürdüğü ikinci defa tespit edilen sürücülere belli miktarda idari para cezası verilerek sürücü belgeleri 2 yıl süreyle geri alınır ve sürücüler sürücü davranışlarını geliştirme eğitimine (SÜDGE) tabi tutulur. Çalışmanın amacı, bu eğitime katılan sürücülerin sosyodemografik özelliklerini ve bazı davranışlarını incelemektir. Kütahya Toplum Sağlığı Merkezinde 2013-2017 tarihleri arasında SÜDGE almış 393 kurs dosyalarının incelenmesiyle yapılan tanımlayıcı tipte bir araştırmadır. 2018 Ocak-Şubat aylarında taranan dosya bilgileri oluşturulan standart bir forma kaydedildi ve tanımlayıcı veriler değerlendirildi. Verilerin analizinde SPSS paket programı kullanıldı ve McNemar X2 testi yapıldı. Hepsi erkek olan 393 katılımcının yaş ortalaması 40,86±9,44, %39,4’ü (n:155) lise ve üstü eğitimli, %19,3’ü (n:76) bekar idi. Katılımcıların %58,3’ü (n:229) 10 yıldan daha fazla süredir araç kullandığını belirtilmiştir. Son 5 yılda en az bir kez kaza yapma sıklığı %26,4 (n:104) idi. Alkollü araç kullanma dışında alınan trafik cezalarının türü; %10,7 yanlış park etme, %4,8 aşırı hız, %1,8 kırmızı ışıkta geçme olarak sıralandı. Çalışma grubunun %11,7’si haftada 2-4 gün, %1,5’i haftada 4 günün üzerinde alkol tükettiğini belirtirmiştir. Katılımcılar alkol alma nedenlerini %19 maddi sıkıntı, %15,6 hastalık varlığı, %11,6 boşanma, %11,1 yoğun iş yükü, %10 işten ayrılma, %9 aile içi sorun, %8,8 işsizlik, %4 kutlama-eğlenme olarak belirtmiştir. Kişilerin ilk kez alkollü araç kullandığı tespit edildiğindeki alkol alma nedenleri ile ikinci kez tespit edildiğindeki nedenler arasında istatistiksel olarak bir fark bulunamadı (p>0,05). Çalışma grubunda haftada 2 günün üzerinde alkol kullanım sıklığı %11,7 saptandı ve alkol alma nedenleri arasında ilk sırada maddi sıkıntı yaşama yer aldı. SÜDGE’nin kişilerin sosyodemografik özellikleri ve alkol kullanma nedenleri dikkate alınarak verilmesi ve değerlendirilmesinin önemli olabileceği düşünülmektedir.

WOS: 000460934600016, PubMed: 30248041, BACKGROUND: For treatment of chronic musculoskeletal disorders pains to be successful, drug interventions are required. OBJECTIVE: In this study, we aimed to evaluate the Rational Drug Use Knowledge Level (RDUKL) in patients with musculoskeletal disorders and some relevant factors. METHOD: The study was carried out in October 2017 on patients treated in the Physical Therapy Rehabilitation Hospital in Turkey. The prepared questionnaire and RDUKL scale were administered to 239 patients by face-to-face interviews. The ANOVA test, chi -squared test and logistic regression model were used for the statistical evaluation. RESULTS: Forty-three percent of the study group was found to have Rational Drug Use Knowledge (RDUK). The patients who used medicines under family supervision had twice as much RDUK as those who did not use medicines under family supervision, and those who were university graduates had six times as much RDUK as those who had primary education or below. Scale score was found to be low in patients with fibromyalgia and high in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (p < 0.05). CONCLUSION: RDUKL was found to be low in the group with chronic diseases and high average age. Besides training, it is important to provide patients with family support about their illness and its treatment. Thus, positive contributions can be made to the increase of the RDUKL.

GİRİŞ VE AMAÇ: İdyopatik Hiperkalsiüri ( İHK ) çocuklarda sık görülen bir metabolik bozukluktur. Hematuri, dizüri, enürezis, kolik ve büyüme geriliği gibi semptomlara sebep olur ve genellikle ürolitiazisle sonuçlanır ( 1,2 ). İHK klinik belirtileri ve sıklığına dikkat çekmek amacıyla bu çalışma yapıldı. YÖNTEM : Polikliniğe başvuran 4-15 yaş arası 223 çocukta spot idrarda kalsium, kreatinin, sodyum, potasyum incelendi. İdrarda kalsiyum kreatinin oranı (İka/İkr ) hesaplandı, 0.20 ve üzeri hiperkalsiüri olarak kabul edildi (3 ). Hastaların şikayetleri kaydedildi. BULGULAR : 4-15 yaş arası 223 hastanın 124( %55.6 )’ ü kız, 99( %44.4 )’ u erkekti. Yaş ortalaması ise 8.7 ±3,1’ di. 223 hastanın 32 ( %14.3 ) ’sinde İka/İkr 0.20’ in üzerindeydi. Erkeklerdeki prevalans %18.2 iken kızlarda %11.3’ tü. 223 hastanın 92(%41.3)’ sinde idrar semptomu vardı. İdrar semptomu olan 92 hastanın 25( %27.2 )’ inde hiperkalsiüri tespit edildi. Hiperkalsiürili 25( %78.1 ) hasta semptomatikti, en sık rastlanan semptom %68.8( 22 hasta ) ile karın ağrısıydı. İHK olmayan 191 hastanın 47( %24.6 )’ inde karın ağrısı varken, İHK olan 32 hastanın 22( %68,8 )’ sinde karın ağrısı vardı. Aim: It is known that psychological factors are significant in the onset and exacerbation periods of psoriasis. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the levels of anxiety, depression, and alexithymia in psoriasis patients and to determine their relationship with the severity of disease and quality of life.Methods: In this case-control study, 71 patients with psoriasis and 86 healthy people constituted the study and control groups, respectively. The clinical severity of psoriasis was determined by the “Psoriasis Area Severity Index” (PASI). “Dermatological Life Quality Index” (DLQI) form was conducted on the patients, and the “Toronto Alexithymia Scale”, “Beck Depression Scale” and “Beck Anxiety Scale” questionnaires were used for both the patients and the controls.Results: Anxiety and depression scores in psoriasis patients were significantly higher than controls (P=0.029, P=0.003, respectively), but there was no significant difference between alexithymia scores (P=0.158). A positive correlation was found between PASI and alexithymia scores (P=0.004), and between the DLQI score of psoriasis patients and anxiety, depression, alexithymia, and PASI scores (P, Amaç: Psoriasis hastalığının başlangıcında ve alevlenme dönemlerinde psikolojik faktörlerin önemli olduğu bilinmektedir. Materials and Methods: The study group includes 60 patients with AA, 44 patients with vitiligo and 61 patients with control group. Socio-demographic and clinical features of study group and vitamin D levels of all participants were recorded. According to the records, it was evaluated as vitamin D deficiency for 25(OH)D level under 20 ng/mL, vitamin D insufficiency for 20-29 ng/mL and normal level for equal to and over 30 ng/ml. Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of skin lesions, which is a health effect of chronic arsenic (As) exposure, and determine the hair/blood arsenic concentrations of people living in Kutahya villages who are using and drinking tap water with a high concentration of arsenic. Materials and Methods: A total of 303 people were included in the present cross-sectional study. A prepared questionnaire form was used to collect the participants' information and environmental history. Skin examination was performed on all participants. Hair, blood and water samples were analyzed using atomic absorption spectroscopy. The cumulative arsenic index (CAI) was calculated for all participants. Results: Villages were divided into two groups according to the arsenic level (20 µg/L, Group II) in their water. The prevalence of skin lesions, hair and blood arsenic level, and CAI were found to be higher in the Group II participants. There was a positive association between body arsenic levels and CAI in the participants of each group. Conclusions: The number of skin lesions and arsenic concentrations in body samples were found to increase with the water arsenic level and exposure time. We hope that sharing this study's results with local administrators will help accelerate the rehabilitation of water sources in Kutahya.

Amaç: Çalışmamızda tıp fakültesi öğrencilerindeki riskli internet kullanıcılığı ile sağlıklı yaşam biçimi davranışları arasındaki ilişkiyi saptamak amaçlandı. Gereç ve Yöntem: 1-30 Mart 2017 tarihinde Kütahya Dumlupınar Üniversitesi Tıp fakültesinde yapılan kesitsel tipte olan çalışmaya 319 öğrenci katıldı. Veri toplama aracı olarak sosyodemografik bilgiler formu, İnternet Bağımlılığı Ölçeği (İBÖ) ve Sağlıklı Yaşam Biçimi Davranışları Ölçeği (SYBDÖ) kullanıldı. İBÖ’den 50 ve üzeri puan alanlar “Riskli İnternet Kullanıcısı” (RİK) olarak tanımlandı. Tanımlayıcı veriler ve yüzdeler Ki Kare, ortalama değişkenler t testi ile değerlendirildi. Bulgular: Öğrencilerin %42.3’ü (n135) erkek ve yaş ortalaması 20.82.1 (yaş aralığı 18-27) idi. RİK prevalansı %24.7 olarak bulunurken, bu oranın erkeklerde (p0.000) ve öğrenim gördükleri bölümden memnun olmayanlarda (p0.045) daha yüksek olduğu saptandı. RİK sıklığının anne öğrenim düzeyi arttıkça (p0.001) ve interneti kullanım süresi arttıkça yükseldiği (p0.000) bulundu. RİK prevalansı interneti eğitim amaçlı kullananlarda daha düşük saptandı (p0.004). RİK olan öğrencilerin SYBDÖ puan ortalaması düşük bulundu (p0.001). RİK olan grubun kişilerarası ilişkiler (p0.000), fiziksel aktivite (p0.009) ve stres yönetimi (p0.008) gibi ölçeğin alt gruplarından daha düşük puan aldığı saptandı. Sonuç: Çalışmamızda, gençlerde RİK olmanın erkeklerde yüksek olduğu ve farklı sosyodemografik faktörlerden etkilendiği saptanmıştır. İnternet bağımlısı öğrenci olmaması sevindirici bir sonuç olmakla birlikte, RİK ve sağlıklı yaşam biçimi davranışları konusunda rehberlik hizmetlerinin yararlı olacağını ümit etmekteyiz, Objective: In our study, it was aimed to determine the relationship between risky internet usage and healthy lifestyle behaviors in medical faculty students. Material and Methods: Three hundred and nineteen students participated in this cross-sectional study conducted at Dumlupinar University Medical Faculty between 1 March and 30 March 2017. Sociodemographic information form, Internet Addiction Scale (IAS) and Healthy Life Style Behavior Scale (HLSBS) were used for data collection. Those whose scored over 50 from the IAS were defined as "Risky Internet Users" (RIU). Descriptive data and percentages were evaluated by Chi square and mean variables were evaluated by t-test. Results: Of the students, 42.3%(n135) were male and the mean age was 20.82.1 (range 18-27). While RIU prevalence was found to be 24.7%, this ratio was determined to be higher for males (p0.000) and for those who were not satisfied with their department. The frequency of RIU was found to increase when mother education level got higher (p0.001) and as the duration of internet usage increased (p0.000). The prevalence of RIU was lower in those who used internet for educational purposes (p0.004). HLSBS score average was found to be lower in students with RIU (p0.001). The group with RIU was determined to get lower scores in the subgroups of the scale such as interpersonel relations (p0.000), physical activity (p0.009) and stress management (p0.008). Conclusion: In our study, it was determined that in young people, RIU was higher in males and was affected by different sociodemographic factors. While inexistence of an internet addicted student was pleasing, guidance services on RIU and healthy life style behaviors will be beneficial.

Background: Chronic exposure to inorganic arsenic is an important public health problem and leads to hyperpigmentation, hyperkeratosis, Bowen’s disease and non-melanoma skin cancers in humans. Arsenic keratosis is the most common skin change that is associated with arsenic exposure. It may be an indicator of arsenic induced health hazards. Objective: To determine the needs of patients with arsenic keratosis by evaluating the impact of disease on the quality of life with respect to treatment and provide rehabilitation services. Methods: A total of 47 subjects with arsenic hyperkeratosis, were enrolled in this crossover study. The demographics, smoking status and the presence of chronic diseases diagnosed by the physician were recorded. Weight and height of the subjects were measured and BMI was calculated. The patients were asked to respond the visual analogue scale and EuroQoL-5D scales for assessing the pain and quality of life impairment associated with arsenic hyperkeratosis. Results: In the study group, moderate to severe problems were reported in 78.7% of patients for pain/uncomfortable condition domains and in 91.5% in anxiety/depression domains. Lower quality of life was reported in those with associated chronic disorders, at an advanced age, in thin patients and in those with severe lesions. Conclusion: According to our knowledge, our study is the first one measuring the quality of life in patients with arsenic keratosis in the literature. By this study, we tried to underline the guidance of health services to be developed towards the needs of patients and the need for the development of new health policies by determining the requirements of these patients. © 2017 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.

Giriş-amaç: Kişisel, sosyal veya gelişimsel olarak istenmeyen sonuçlara neden olan ve bireyin yaşamını birçok alanda tehlikeye atan riskli davranışların anlaşılması ve bunların altında yatan faktörlerin ortaya çıkarılması önemlidir. Bu çalışmanın amacı üniversite öğrencilerinde görülen riskli davranışlar ve ilişkili faktörlerin incelenmesidir.Gereç -Yöntem: Araştırmanın örneklemini Dumlupınar Üniversitesinde öğrenim görmekte olan tabakalı örnekleme yöntemi kullanılarak seçilen fakültelerin ilk ve son sınıf öğrencileri oluşturmuştur. Mart-Haziran 2015 tarihinde yapılan kesitsel tipte olan çalışmaya 2261 öğrenci katılmıştır. Veri toplama aracı olarak sosyodemografik bilgiler formu ve Riskli Davranışlar Ölçeği Üniversite Formu (RDÖÜF) kullanılmıştır. Ölçeğin her bir alt boyut puanları ve etkili olan değişkenler t testi ile değerlendirilmiştir. Bulgular: Öğrencilerin %41.7’si (942) erkek, %58.3’ü (1319) kız, %57.1’i 1.sınıf, %42,9’u son sınıf öğrencisi idi. Erkek öğrencilerin ölçeğin tüm alanlarından aldığı puanların (İntihar eğilimi puanı dışında) kız öğrencilere göre daha yüksek olduğu bulundu. Sigara, alkol ve uyuşturucu madde kullanma ve antisosyal davranış puanı; son sınıfta okuyanlarda, geliri yüksek olanlarda, okuduğu bölümden memnun olmayanlarda, daha önceden geçirilmiş depresyon öyküsü, ailesi ile sorunu olanlarda ve obez olanlarda daha yüksek bulundu. Sağlıksız beslenme alışkanlıkları puanı; geliri yüksek olanlarda, önceden geçirilmiş depresyon öyküsü ve obez olmayanlarda daha yüksek bulundu. Sonuç: Çalışmamızda, gençlerde riskli davranışların erkeklerde yüksek olduğu ve çok farklı sosyodemografik faktörlerden etkilendiği görülmektedir. Bu çalışmadan elde edilecek verilerin, yapılacak sağlık eğitimleri için yol gösterici olacağını ümit etmekteyiz.

Background and Design: To investigate the efficacy and safety of topical 4% naicinamide gel cream in the treatment of mild to moderate acne vulgaris and to assess the quality of life of acne patients.Material and Method: Twenty-nine female patients aged 16-38 (mean: 23.57±5.42) years with mild to moderate acne vulgaris who presented in dermatology outpatient clinic were enrolled in the study. All patients applied 4% niacinamide gel cream (Vivatinell-acnecinamide gel cream®) on their faces twice daily for eight weeks. The number of lesions (inflammatory and non-inflammatory) was counted at 0, 2, 4 and 8 weeks. The side effects (erythema, desquamation, burning and dryness) were recorded. The Skindex-29, a quality-of-life measure for patients with skin disease, was administered to the subjects at the beginning and the end of treatment.Results: The decrease in the mean number of inflammatory lesions was statistically significant at the end of the treatment (pre-treatment vs. post-treatment: 12.24 vs. 6.14; p =0.000). However, there was no statistically significant decrease in the number of non-inflammatory lesions at the end of the eight weeks. The niacinamide gel cream was generally well tolerated. There was statistically significant improvement in the Skindex-29 scale scores (p =0.000) at the end of the treatment.Conclusion: Topical 4% niacinamide gel cream may be an alternative treatment for inflammatory lesions of mild to moderate acne vulgaris.

This study was conducted in three stages in a semi-rural region of Eskisehir, Turkey. In the first stage, individuals selected by random sampling were evaluated for cardiovascular disease risk factors. In the second stage, Group I and Group II training materials were randomly distributed. In the third stage, the subjects were screened one year later to assess and determine if there had been any changes in their attitudes towards the dangers of cardiovascular diseases. The number of active smokers significantly decreased after the training in the both groups. The percentage of people with regulated blood pressure exhibited an increase in Group II more than Group I.

Amaç: Çalışmada obez kadınlarda Metabolik Sendrom (MS) ve kan lipid profilinin değerlendirilmesi amaçlandı. Yöntem: Aralık 2013-Ocak 2014 tarihleri arasında polikliniğe kilo verememe nedeniyle başvuran 102 hastada, MS ve kan parametreleri değerlendirildi. VKİ; 30,0-34,9 kg/m2 ise 1. derece obez, 35,0-39,9kg/m2 ise 2. derece obez, ?40,0kg/m2 ise 3. derece (morbid) obez olarak sınıflandırıldı. Bulgular: Hastaların yaş ortalaması; 45,01±11,0 idi. Kadınların %34,3’ü 1. derece, %30,4’ü 2. derece, %35,3’ü 3. derece obez idi. MS prevalansı %56,9 olarak bulundu. Obezite derecelerine göre MS sıklığı artarken, yaş arttıkça MS’nin arttığı saptandı (p0,05). Sonuç: Çalışmamızda, VKİ artışı ile MS’nin arttığı ve lipid profilindeki bozulma ile VKİ arasında anlamlı bir ilişki bulunmasa da, doğru orantının olduğu görülmektedir. Methods: BMI and blood parameters were compared in 102 patients who applied to the clinic owing to the failure to lose weight complaint between December 2013 and January 2014. They were classified according to BMI; 30,0-34,9 kg/m2 as 1 st degree obese, 35,0-39,9 kg/m2 as 2nd degree obese, and ≥40,0 kg/m2 as 3rd degree (morbid) obese. Results: All the patients were women. Amaç: Çalışma, üniversite öğrencilerinin akılcı ilaç kullanımı hakkındaki bilgi-tutum-davranışlarını belirlemek amacı ile yapıldı. Gereç ve Yöntemler: Çalışma Mayıs-Haziran 2013 tarihleri arasında Kütahya ili Dumlupınar Üniver- sitesinde yapılan tanımlayıcı tpte bir araştrmadır. Hazırlanan anket yüz-yüze görüşme tekniği ile çalışmaya katlmayı kabul eden 18 yaş üzeri Üniversite öğrencisinde 580 kişide uygulandı. Ankete kişilerin Akılcı ilaç kullanımına yönelik bilgi-tutum-davranışlarını sorgulayan sorular yer aldı. Veri - erin değerlendirilmesinde tanımlayıcı istatstkler kullanıldı. Bulgular: Çalışma grubunun %68.4’ü (n=376) sadece hekimin verdiği ilaçları, %62.9’u (n=365) re - çeteye uygun kullandıkları, %66.4’ü (n=385) ilaçları uygun koşullarda sakladıklarını bildirdi. Kat - lımcıların %67.8’i (n=385) hekimin önerdiği süreye kadar ilacı kullandıklarını, %27.8’i (n=161) aynı etkiye sahip ama ucuz olan ilacı tercih etklerini ve %85’i (n=495) ilaç temininde sıkınt yaşama - dığını belirtrken, %37.2’si (n=216) kullandığı ilaç hakkında araştrma yaptğını ve grubun %42.6’u (n=247) ilacın renk-ambalaj ve tadının kullanım açısından önemli olduğunu bildirdi. Sonuç: Akılcı ilaç kullanımına yönelik eğitm programlarının artrılması ve sağlık hizmetleri sunu - mu sırasında kaçırılmış frsatları değerlendirmenin önemli ve gerekli olduğu söylenebilir., Objectve: The aim of this study is to determine knowledge-attude behaviors of university students about ratonal use of drugs. Mateials and Methods: A total of 580 partcipants included to the study, who accepted the via face to face communicaton method, at least 18 years old; in three months period ( May-June 2014). All partcipants questoned for their knowledge-attude behaviors on ratonal use of drugs. Descriptve statstcs was used in order to evaluate the collected data. Results: 376 partcipants (68.4%) stated that they had used only drugs given by a doctor, 365 partcipants (62.9%) pointed that they had used drugs according to prescripton and 385 partcipants (66.4%) noted that they had preserved drugs under suitable conditons. 385 partcipants (67.8%) clarifed that they obey the tme of drug use as the doctor suggested. Most of the partcipants (n=495, 85%) stated that they had no problem in providing the drug. While 161 partcipants (27.8%) mentoned that they chose the cheaper ones with the same efect, 216 partcipants (37.2%) noted that they searched about the drug before using. Only 247 partcipants (42.6%) answered as the color-package and taste of the drug was important to use it. Amaç: Çalışma, bir hastanedeki sağlık çalışanlarının kesici delici aletleri güvenli kullanımına ilişkin tutumlarını ölçmek amacıyla planlandı.Yöntemler: Kesitsel tipte olan bu çalışmanın evrenini Haseki Eğitim ve Araştırma Hastanesi sağlık çalışanları oluşturmuş, hastane yöneticisinden gerekli izinler alınmıştır. Hastanede toplam 1135 sağlık çalışanı görev yapmakta olup, çalışmaya katılmayı kabul eden 539 sağlık çalışanında yapılmıştır. Çalışmada Uzunbayır ve ark. tarafından geliştirilen (Cronbach alfa=0,80) "Sağlık Çalışanlarının Kesici-Delici Tıbbi Aletleri Güvenli Kullanımına Yönelik Tutum Ölçeği" kullanılmıştır. Verilerin değerlendirilmesinde SPSS paket programı ile t testi ve Anova analizi kullanılmıştır. Bulgular: Katılımcıların %17,1'i doktor, %58,4'ü hemşire, %24,5'i temizlik personeli olup, grubun %43,8'i cerrahi bir bölümde çalışmaktaydı. Personelin %25,8'i mesleğinin ilk beş yılını bitirmiş idi. Meslek gruplarına göre alt ölçek bölümlerinden alınan puanlar karşılaştırıldığında; bilişsel bölüm ile meslek grupları arasında (p=0,810) ve duyuşsal bölüm ile meslek grupları arasında bir fark bulunamadı (p=0,401). Hemşirelerin davranışsal puan ortalamalarının, doktor ve temizlik personeline göre daha yüksek olduğu saptandı (p=0,000).Sonuç: Cerrahi bölümlerde çalışanlarda, beş yılın üstünde mesleki tecrübesi olanlarda ve hemşirelerde ölçek puanı yüksek bulunmuş, kesici-delici tıbbi aletleri diğer gruplara göre daha güvenli kullandıkları saptanmıştır., Aim: In this study, we aimed to investigate the attitudes of healthcare workers to safe use of medical instruments. Methods: This cross-sectional study was performed on healthcare professionals working in Haseki Training and Research Hospital in Istanbul. Necessary permissions have been obtained from the hospital administrator. There have been 1135 health care workers in this hospital (243 doctors, 442 nurses, 450 cleaning staff), but 539 of them volunteered to participate in the study. We used the Scale of the Attitude of Healthcare Workers to Safe Use of Sharp Instruments developed by Uzunbayır et al. (Cronbach's alpha=0.80). Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS 21.0 and data were analyzed using the t-test and ANOVA. A p value of less than 0.05 was considered significant.Results: 17.1% of participants were doctors, 58.4% - nurses, 24.5% - cleaning staff and 43.8% of subjects were working in a surgical department. 25.8% of participants had at least 5 years of working experience in this field. There were no significant differences between the occupational groups in cognition (p=0.810) and affect scores (p=0.401). It was found that the behavioral scores in nurses were higher than in doctors and cleaning staff (p=0.000).Conclusion: The total score was found to be higher in nurses as well as in participants working in a surgical department and those having at least 5 years of professional experience. It was determined that these groups used the medical instruments more safely than did the other ones.

Background Acne vulgaris is a common disease affecting adolescents. There is not comprehensive data on acne prevalence in the Central Anatolia Region in particular. Etiology of acne is not clarified yet. Acne might be related to environmental factors. There is increasing evidence supporting acne and diet relationship. Objectives The aim of the study was to determine the acne prevalence in adolescents in the city of Eskisehir, located in the Central Anatolia, Turkey in addition to evaluate factors affecting acne and its relationship with dietary habits. Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted on 2300 participants aged 13–18 years. The participants were asked to complete a questionnaire form consisting information about acne and a questionnaire form consisting information about dietary habits (The Adolescent Food Habits Checklist). In addition an objective evaluation of acne was determined. Results The mean age of students with acne was 15.10 ± 1.53. The current acne prevalence was 60.7%. Although 21% of the participants had severe acne (grade 3–4) and 25% developed sequelaes, only 11.5% of all participants consulted a doctor. OBJECTIVE The purpose of this study was to raise awareness of people in two semi-rural regions of Eskisehir in terms of cardiovascular diseases (CVD) risk factors and to promote related heart-healthy behaviors. METHODS The study was a semi-experimental intervention and featured as a two-phase design. In the first phase of the study, participants received visits at home. Individuals in intervention and control areas were given a participation form that indicated the Framingham Risk Score (FRS). Other training materials were distributed throughout the intervention area. The second phase was planned as a nested case- control study. The first phase included 2.766 persons and the second phase included 778 persons. In the evaluation of the data the Pearson Chi-square and Student's t-test for independent samples, Mc-Nemar Chi-square and the paired t-test for dependent samples were applied. RESULTS During the first phase, the frequency of FRS metrics above 10% was 26.2% for males, 18.1% for females in the intervention area, 22.9% for males, and 14.9% for females in the control area. The aim of this study was to determine the frequency of tinea pedis and manuum (dermatophyte infections of the hands and feet) in adults in rural areas of Turkey, the risk factors and self-administered treatment options. A total of 2,574 people living in a rural area were enrolled in the study. Participants were asked demographic data, hygienic habits in a questionnaire. KOH preparations and culture were performed from suspicious lesions. Medical and alternative therapy methods and former dermatophytosis diagnosis history were taken from the respondents with suspicious lesions. Microbiological samples were taken from 285 (11.1%) participants. Culture was positive in 109 (4.2%) of those. The most common agent was Trichophyton rubrum. The predisposing factors were found as age older than 40, male gender and obesity. Forty-nine (44.9%) of patients had taken a medical therapy, 56 (51.4%) had performed non-medical methods (cologne, Lawsonia inermis-Henna and softener creams). Patient's education about the treatment compliance is important.

Background: The aim of this study was to establish the incidence rate, incidence-related characteristics, and epidemiological profile of epilepsy in Eskisehir, Turkey. Methods: Cases were prospectively recorded by utilizing multiple data sources, including case records obtained through the Hospital Information System, files kept by family physicians, and files kept by private neurologists. Patients diagnosed with epilepsy between July 1, 2007, and June 30, 2008, and above the age of 15 years were included in the study. Results: 219 new cases were diagnosed with epilepsy. The adjusted incidence rate was 33.51/100,000 cases in males and 42.22/ 100,000 cases in females, for a total of 37.59/100,000 persons. The incidence rates according to age were found to be highest in the 15–19-year age group and in the ≧70-year age group. Partial seizures were observed more than generalized seizures after the age of 40. Unknown etiology accounted for 77.2% of the epilepsies. Stroke was the most common etiological cause of epilepsy among the symptomatic group. Conclusions: The incidence rate of epilepsy in Eskisehir was comparable with the rates reported for developed countries.

The aim of this study is to determine the knowledge, beliefs, and practices of a population living in a rural area in regards to tick bites and Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever (CCHF). The study was conducted in a rural area located in Central Anatolia in the region of Eskisehir. A total of 1,500 individuals aged 20 years and older chosen by a stratified random sample were enrolled. A questionnaire was administered in person. In 264 (17.4%) participants, there was a history of being bitten by a tick. This rate was higher in older persons, males, married persons, and farmers. The most commonly reported protective behavior was wearing long sleeves and long pants when wandering in rural areas (65.1% of participants). The least commonly reported behavior was using insect repellent on skin or clothes (3.3% of participants). Only 799 participants (54%) had heard about CCHF as a disease associated with ticks. Females, those with primary school education, housewives, and male farmers had a high frequency of having heard about CCHF. Tick bites and CCHF are important public health problems, yet the current knowledge of these problems is not sufficient in populations living in rural areas of the Middle Anatolian Region of Turkey.

Summary This study aims to establish the rates of hypertension among individuals living in rural and urban areas in Turkey, and to compare their level of awareness concerning cardiovascular disease risk factors and lifestyle modifications. In total, 1679 people from urban areas and 1321 individuals from rural areas who were over 40 years of age were contacted. Hypertension standardized prevalence rate was 49% in males and 51.3% in females living in urban areas, and 55.3% in males and 59.6% in females living in rural areas. The risk of hypertension was higher in those people living in urban areas with a smoking habit, obesity, a sedentary lifestyle, inappropriate salt intake or a diagnosis of hypercholesterolemia. The risk of hypertension was also higher in people living in rural areas with obesity, a sedentary lifestyle, an inappropriate consumption of fat and red meat or a diagnosis of hypercholesterolemia or diabetes. Awareness of the importance of all of the included cardiovascular risk factors and protection from those risk factors was higher in urban areas. We concluded that cardiovascular risk factor control programs should be conducted together with hypertension control programs in rural and urban areas.

AIM: The research was planned in order to evaluate the level of health’s elementary schools located in Eskisehir Osmangazi University School of Medicine Public Health Department Training and Research Areas and the school health services they have been receiving for the last eight years. METHOD: 1st, 2nd, 7th and 8th grade students studying in 12 elementary schools located in the Training and Research Areas in 2009-2010 academic year were enrolled to the study. On days of the screenings, a total of 1405 students available (1405/1569: %89.5) in the schools were reached. Growth, seeing, hearing, mouth-teeth health, systemic physical examination and by consulting to the teachers, state of mind and existence of chronic diseases were researched. For each child, information containing the existence of school enrolment examination, the number of periodic examinations that have been conducted on the child, and also the results of the examination of the same year was inquired. RESULTS: 1.0 % of the students were detected as very weak, 4.8 % as weak, 75.9 % as normal, 15.8 % as overweight and 2.5 % as obese. In eye examinations, 10.5% of the students had refractive error, 6.2 % had amblyopia and 3.1% had diplopia. In the ear examination, it was determined that 48.7 % of the students had plug, 2.5 % had perforated tympanum, and 3.1 % had hearing loss. In mouth and teeth examination, it was detected that 64.8% of the students had tooth decay. All of the students who were claimed to have undergone school enrolment examination were first grade students and that examinations included examination results of this year. Health forms containing the results of school enrolment examination and periodic examinations of 2nd, 7th and 8th grade students were not found. School screening were conducted only in two district elementary schools. The eye examination results reported in the records appeared to be inconsistent with screning results. CONCLUSION: It was shown that school age children had significant undiagnosed health problems. It is concluded that school health services are inadequate in the research area and further researches are required to be conducted in this subject. [TAF Prev Med Bull 2011; 10(5.000): 511-518]
