To evaluate the role of fluorine-18 fluorodeoxyglucose (Patients with early-stage (stage I-III) LSCC who underwentA total of 77 patients (5 female, 72 male) were included in the study. SUVmax and GLCM entropy were independently associated with tumor differentiation. The only parameter with significant diagnostic performance for MLNM was GLZLM-SLZGE. Tumor diameter and NGLDM busyness were independently associated with the stage. MLNM and tumor differentiation were found to be independent predictors of PFS. NGLDM contrast and MLNM were independently associated with OS.Using radiomic features in addition to CPFs to predict disease recurrence and shorter overall survival can guide precision medicine in patients with LSCC.

Introduction: Intestinal amyloidosis frequently encountered as a part of systemic amyloidosis, but rarely can be confined in the gastrointestinal tract. Case report: A 54-year-old male presented with the complaint of gas and stool discharge. Urgently segmental bowel resection was performed for ileus. Macroscopically nodular lesions, the largest at 7x3x0.7 cm in size were observed in the intestinal lumen. Microscopically; the accumulation of dense eosinophilic material that formed a mass in the submucosal area was noted. This material was positive with Crystal Violet, Congo Red and Amyloid A. Kappa and Lambda were negative. No monoclonal gammopathy, increase in serum amyloid A levels, chronic inflammatory disease, infectious disease or malignancy was determined. The case was evaluated as "intestinal AA amyloidosis". Discussion: While AA amyloidosis was existent in our case, it comprised a mass lesion and caused intestinal obstruction. It is also exraordinary for AA amyloidosis to be confined in gastrointestinal tract.

Background/Aim: Whether midline or transverse incision is superior in laparotomy is still controversial. The aim of this study was to investigate the total collagen amounts in wound healing after midline and transverse incisions and reveal whether there was a difference between these two laparotomy techniques. Methods: Twenty-four BALB/c mice were randomly divided into three groups (control, midline, and transverse groups). Mice were sacrificed 28 days after the surgical procedures. The samples were examined histochemically in terms of total collagen density, Type I and Type III collagen rate and maturation index. Results: Total collagen density, Type I collagen rate and maturation index were slightly insignificantly higher and Type III collagen rate was insignificantly lower in the transverse incision group compared to the midline group (P=0.486, P=0.541, P=0.336 and P=0.541, respectively). Conclusion: The total collagen density, Tip I and Tip III collagen amounts, and maturation index of wounds healed after transverse and midline laparotomy are similar according to this experimental model.

Elevated platelet count (PC), mean platelet volume (MPV), and Platelet Mass Index (PMI) are reported in patients with psoriasis, while platelet activation is associated with psoriasis severity. Available studies examining the relationship between platelet activation markers and psoriasis have mostly focused on psoriasis area severity index. To the best of our knowledge, there is no study examining the relationship between histopathological features of a single psoriatic plaque and platelet activation. The present study examined the relationship between histomorphological findings obtained by morphometric analysis and psoriasis patients' PC, MPV, and PMI values.Morphometric analysis was performed on hematoxylin and eosin-stained preparations of skin biopsies to measure minimum suprapapillary epidermis thickness (SPETWhile an inverse correlation was found between SPETmin and PC and PMI in cases with psoriasis (p values = 0.015 and 0.005, r values = -0.238 and -0.271, respectively), no significant correlation was found between SPETmin and MPV (p value = 0.600, r value = -. 052). On the contrary, no significant correlation was found between SPKTmax, ETmax, and KTmax values and platelet parameters.We assume that an increased risk of platelet activation-related diseases is expected in psoriasis patients displaying histopathological findings of suprapapillary thinning due to increased platelet activation; therefore, it may be beneficial to monitor these patients in terms of such risks.

Tumefactive fibroinflammatory lesion (TFIL) is a rare idiopathic disease. These lesions clinically mimic malignant neoplasms, but they are characterized by benign histology while they cause local destruction. Its etiology is unknown, but it is thought to be an exaggerated immune response resulting from chronic infections. They are commonly seen in the head and neck area. Similar clinical and histologic findings are also present in IgG4-related disease. Here, it was aimed to present a 75-year-old male patient with chronic diseases including coronary artery disease and obesity. He was admitted to the thoracic surgery outpatient clinic with symptoms of chest pain, dyspnea, and swelling in the anterior chest wall. Imaging methods revealed a mass, which affected bone structures and showed increased 18-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) uptake, in the anterior of the left hemithorax. Surgical excision was performed because he met the clinical criteria of malignancy. No malignancy finding was identified in the histopathologic examination of the samples collected from the mass. In light of immunohistochemical and histopathologic findings, he was diagnosed as having TFIL. Treatment options for these lesions include steroids, surgery, and radiotherapy. They are persistent lesions associated with a high recurrence rate. We wanted to present this case because it is possible to recognize this rarely encountered lesion and increase awareness of the existence of such an entity.

Phototherapy methods commonly used in the treatment of vitiligo include narrow-band ultraviolet B (NB-UVB). A 23-years old male was diagnosed with vitiligo in the dermatology polyclinic and was followed up in the phototherapy unit with NB-UVB treatment of 3 sessions per week; in the 42nd session psoriasis plaques were seen to have developed. We suggest that this rare but important association should be considered as a side effect of narrow-band phototherapy.

Meningiomas are slow growing, extra axial brain tumors that originating from the meningothelial cells of the arachnoid. Meningiomas are the most common brain tumors, however secretory meningiomas are extremely rare variant and can be confused radiologically and pathologically with malignant tumors. A 48 years old male was presented with a complaint of headache and visual impairment in the left eye. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed an extra axial mass lesion in the left pontocerebellar region, 57x48x30 mm in size, and marked edema around the mass. Microscopically, a tumoral lesion consisting ofuniform meningothelial cells with oval-round nuclei, thin vesiculated chromatin, and moderately eosinophilic cytoplasm was observed. The presence of epithelial differentiation characterized by pseudopsammom structures formed by lumens containing eosinophilic secretion was appointed among the tumor cells. Eosinophilic secretion within the lumens were highlighted with histochemical periodic acid schiff (PAS) stain. Immunoreaction was observed in the pseudopsammom structures and the surrounding tumor cells with carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), epithelial membrane antigen (EMA) and pan cytokeratin (Pan-CK). Tumor cells were immunopositive with Vimentin and progesterone receptor (PR). Tümör hücreleri arasında eozinofilik sekresyon içeren lümenlerin oluşturduğu psödopsammom yapılarıyla karakterize epitel farklılaşmasının varlığı belirlendi. Lümenlerdeki eozinofilik sekresyon histokimyasal periyodik asit schiff (PAS) boyası ile gösterildi. Aims: Human asparaginase-like protein 1 (ASRGL1) is closely related to tumor growth. ASRGL1 can significantly promote cell proliferation and suppress apoptosis. To date, high levels of expression of ASRGL1 have been reported in various tumors, but the function of ASRGL1 in carcinogenesis is still not well understood. In this study, we aimed to immunohistochemically investigate the expression of ASRGL1 in non-neoplastic breast tissue and invasive ductal carcinoma. Methods and results: ASRGL1 was evaluated immunohistochemically in 148 invasive ductal carcinomas and 105 nonneoplastic breast tissue samples to assess the impact on breast cancer development and its association with clinicopathologic features. ASRGL1 was observed positive in 63 (42.6%) and negative in 85 (57.4%) invasive ductal carcinoma. In nonneoplastic breast tissue, 24 (22.9%) cases were ASRGL1 positive and 81 (77.1%) were negative. A significant difference was observed between invasive ductal carcinoma and nonneoplastic breast tissue in terms of ASRGL1 expression, and ASRGL1 expression was increased in invasive ductal carcinoma (P = .001). Most estrogen receptor-negative tumors and progesterone receptor-negative tumors were also negative with ASRGL1 and the difference was significant (P = .006 and P = .001, respectively). The correlation between the ASRGL1 expression of the tumors and event-free survival or overall survival was not significant (P>.05). Conclusions: ASRGL1 may play a role in increasing cell proliferation and breast cancer development. ASRGL-1 expression in breast cancer closely correlates with the hormone receptor status of the tumor. In breast cancer, ASRGL-1 expression does not contribute to predicting tumor behavior.

Androgen insensitivity syndrome, previously referred to as testicular feminization syndrome, is an X-linked recessive disorder that is characterized by a mutation in the q11-q12 region of the X chromosome, which results in a deformed androgen receptor gene. Patients with androgen insensitivity syndrome may develop testicular tumors, especially seminomas after puberty. A 35-year-old female patient presented with the complaint of primary amenorrhea and had masses of approximately 4 cm size palpated in the bilateral inguinal regions. The masses were excised and the histopathological examination was reported as bilateral Sertoli cell adenoma. Although the risk of bilateral gonadal tumor development is low in patients with androgen insensitivity syndrome, such malignancies should not be disregarded.

Background The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between preoperative hematological inflammatory markers of the patients who underwent a surgery for incarcerated hernia and intestinal resection requirement. Methods The data of 102 patients who underwent a surgery for incarcerated hernia were retrospectively evaluated. Whole blood cell counts were preoperatively measured, and operation types and pathology results were recorded. The patients with intestinal resections were compared with those without any resection in terms of leukocyte number, neutrophil rate, red cell distribution width (RDW), platelet distribution width, neutrophil-to lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet to lymphocyte ratio (PLR), and mean platelet volume (MPV). Results Eighty-one patients were operated for incarcerated groin hernia, 17 for incarcerated umbilical hernia, and 4 for incarcerated incisional hernia. Twenty-six patients (25%) had intestinal resections; in 4 of them, intestinal perforation was detected. In patients with intestinal resections,the neutrophil rate, PDW, NLR, and PLR values were significantly higher than those in the patients without any resections. Conclusion High NLR rates, certainly with clinical correlation, can be used as a biomarker to predict intestinal necrosis and the need for intestinal resection in patients who will undergo surgery for incarcerated hernia, particularlyin situations with lacking radiological imaging methods.

Unilateral nevoid telangiectasia (UNT) is characterized by the dermatomal distribution of telangiectasia, which are distributed unilaterally and frequently found in C3-C4 or the trigeminal dermatomal areas. It may be congenital or acquired and has a 2:1 female: male ratio. Several theories where developed in order to explain its etiopathogenesis. The most widely accepted is the one which establishes its probable association with an increase in estrogen levels. Its incidence is unknown, although it's probably subdiagnosed and more frequent than previously recognized. We present two pediatric cases of UNT followed at our instution during the past year.

Infantile acute hemorrhagic edema IAHE is a benign disease which is characterized by target and rosette-shaped inflammatory edema which has a dramatic beginning and characterized by ecchymotic purpura. It is generally seen in infants under 2 years of age and recurrence is hardly observed. It is thought that this disease is a rare form of cutaneous vasculitis. Here we reported a 4-year-old girl who applied to our clinic and was diagnosed IAHE. Serpigo first started at the age of 2 and repeated 4 times in 2 years with 6-month intervals. As the relapse was seldom reported in the literature, we chose to report this case owing to the fact that the patient was over 2 years old and had 4 attacks in total., İnfantil akut hemorajik ödem İAHÖ , ani başlangıç ve ekimotik purpura ile karakterize hedef ve rozet şeklinde inflamatuar ödemle seyreden benign bir hastalıktır. Genellikle 2 yaşın altındaki çocuklarda görülür ve neredeyse hiç rekürrens gözlenmez. Bu hastalık kutanöz vaskülitin nadir bir formu olarak düşünülür. Burada biz kliniğimize başvuran ve İAHÖ tanısı alan bir kız çocuğunu bildirdik. Döküntü ilk kez 2 yaşın altında başlamış ve 2 yıl içerisinde 6 ay arlıklarla 4 kez tekrar etmiş. Literatürde relaps çok nadir olarak bildirilmiştir, biz bu vakayı hastanın 2 yaşının üzerine olması ve toplamda 4 atak geçirmesi üzerine seçtik.

Ganoderma lucidum (reishi mushroom) has been used in traditional Chinese and Japanese medicine as a herbal remedy for over 2000 years. Studies have shown that G. lucidum has anti-allergic, anti-oxidant, anti-tumor, anti-viral, and anti-inflammatory properties. A review of the literature revealed that there were no studies examining the use of G. lucidum for the treatment of skin diseases. Here, we report the case of a 44-year-old male patient who used soap enriched with G. lucidum and goat’s milk for 3 days in treating annular cutaneous sarcoidosis. The patient showed almost complete regression of the lesions.

Eccrine hidrocystomas (EHs) are benign cystic lesions of the eccrine ducts. They may have a chronic course and seasonal variation, and have a female predilection. Solitary EH can be easily treated by surgical excision, whereas multiple lesions are difficult to treat. We report a 65-year-old woman with sarcoidosis and multiple EHs, who was treated with cryotherapy, which resulted in a reduction in lesion number of > 90%. To our knowledge, this is the first report of cryotherapy used for EH treatment. If this case is confirmed by further studies, cryotherapy may be a viable treatment option for EH.

Porokeratisis is a specific keratinization disorder. The presence of cornoid lamella is histologically characteristic of the disorder. This report describes a 23-year-old male patient with multiple porokeratotic lesions with bilateral symmetric localization on the ala of the nose, which may be a rare variant of porokeratosis.

Introduction: Hemangiomas are common benign vascular tumors. Primary thyroid cavernous hemangiomas are extremely rare and have been reported only as case reports in literature. In this report, a case with thyroid cavernous hemangioma was reported. case report: A 45-year-old female with history of enlarging anterior neck mass referred to our clinic. Ultrasonography showed a single hypoechogenic nodule in the right lobe of the thyroid. right hemi-thyroidectomy was performed and cavernous hemangioma was diagnosed. conclusion: Preoperative differential diagnosis thyroid hemangioma is very difficult. surgery should be indicated when malignancy or cavernous hemangioma is suspected or compressive symptoms developed and it provides a good prognosis.

Subacute cutaneous lupus erythematosus (SCLE) is a form of cutaneous lupus erythematosus that most often presents as scaly, erythematous, papulosquamous, or annular papules and plaques in a photo-distributed pattern. Subacute cutaneous lupus erythematosus is classically considered to be either idiopathic or drug induced. Here we report 33-year old man with subacute cutaneous lupus erythematosus and review the literature.

Lichen striatus is a well-known, acquired, self-healing, linear inflammatory dermatosis. Its etiology remains unclear. It rarely affects adults, and it is characterized by abrupt onset of coalescent papules, in a linear disposition, usually on the extremities. It is usually localized and asymptomatic; however, when the onset occurs in adulthood, patients may experience widespread lesions and pruritus. The lesions are located on extremities and less commonly on the trunk, and they follow the developmental lines of Blaschko. Histopathology findings indicate both lichenoid and spongiotic dermatitis. The therapeutic approach usually used is topical steroids. It is reported here the case of an adult woman with erythematous violaceous papules on the left leg, diagnosed with lichen striatus by clinical and histopathological correlation.
