This study investigates the impact of core-shell-based nanofluids on the thermal performance of a solar water heating system by studying the changes in the useful heat gain and collector efficiency. This work would be the first to report the use of core-shell nanoparticles in solar water heating systems. The core-shell structure allows for dual improvements in thermal conductivity and better nanofluid stability, even without a surfactant. Therefore, three novel nanofluids were prepared by adding 2 wt% TiO2 @SiO2, Fe3O4@SiO2, and ZnO@SiO2 core-shell nanoparticles to pure water to be used in the experiments. The experimental thermal performances of the nanofluids were individually compared with pure water by the simultaneous operation of two identical systems. The results showed that the nanofluids with Fe3O4@SiO2 and ZnO@SiO2 particles had better performance than the base fluid. In particular, 16.65% and 5.40% increase in the useful energy gain and a 17.12% and 7.39% increase in the collector efficiency were observed with Fe3O4@SiO2 and ZnO@SiO2 core-shell based nanofluids, respectively. A widely accepted method to improve the thermal performance of nanofluids is adding more particles to the fluid, which often causes higher viscosity and sedimentation risk. Therefore, alternative methods are required to create complex structures and improve the properties of particles to acquire similar or even better performance with a smaller amount. Doping is one of the promising methods, and this study examined the effects of doping rates (0.1 and 0.3 %) and materials (Ag and Cu) on the thermophysical properties of ethylene glycol-water-based nanofluids. Nanofluids were prepared with pure and Ag/Cu doped TiO2 nanoparticles at various concentrations (0.3 %, 0.5 %, 1 %, and 2) by mass. The synthesized nanoparticles were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), particle size distribution (PSD), Brunauer, Emmett, and Teller (BET) surface area analysis, and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Thermophysical property measurements were carried out at a temperature range of 40 and 60 °C. Based on the results, all particles were spherical and had an anatase structure with an average particle size ranging from 6 nm to 8 nm. There was also a monodisperse distribution in the base fluid. At the highest doping rate (0.3 %) and lowest mass concentration (0.3 %) of Ag-doped particles, the maximum specific heat (3051.31 J/kgK) of the study was observed. Increasing concentration resulted in a maximum 48.2 % decrease in specific heat for nanofluids containing 0.1 % Cu particles. The thermal conductivity increased by 2.40 % with doping but by only 1.89 % with concentration. The highest increase in viscosity was determined as 75.21 % at 40 °C, depending on the concentration increase. This study reports levels of indoor environmental quality variables before and after installation of heat recovery ventilation in a primary school located in an urban area in Izmir, Turkey. A CO2-based modeling was performed to determine the required flow rates that would comply with an international ventilation standard, followed by computational fluid dynamics modeling for best airflow distribution in a classroom. Temperature, CO2, PM2.5, and total volatile organic compounds were found at undesired levels, among which relative humidity, CO2, and PM2.5 were improved after the intervention. Reductions in the mean and maximum concentrations were 29% and 68% for CO2 and 29% and 46% for PM2.5. The most well-known ailment affecting the neck muscles is neck stiffness, caused by sharp changes in temperature, chilling of the muscles by air conditioning or drafts, and consequent painful muscle contractions. A stiff neck is typically characterized by soreness and difficulty in moving the neck – especially when trying to turn the head to the side. A stiff neck may also be accompanied by a headache, neck pain, shoulder pain and/or arm pain. Reduced cervical range of motion (ROM) is a common finding in people with neck pain. Musculoskeletal disorders continue to represent a major source of pain and discomfort as well as a significant source of workday loss and workers' compensation costs. In this study, the effects of parameters in air conditioning such as temperature, humidity and air velocity on cervical ROM have been investigated experimentally. In this investigation, each of the three parameters was used as a variable while the others were kept constant in a controlled laboratory room, and the effects of the parameter variations were investigated. Based on the observation that individuals often enter the air conditioned room perspiring in summer conditions, both dry and sweaty conditions were examined. Finally, experimental data were assessed with ANOVA analyses, and cervical rotation was found to be influenced by temperature and air velocity, but not humidity. It was also determined that parameters (temperature, air velocity and humidity) are not effective factors on cervical motion limitation provided that indoor air conditions remain within comfort limits which are prescribed in current standards of ASHRAE Standard 55 – 2004 and ISO 7730.

Environmental awareness is increased and heat pump systems have become more common because of several reasons such as; the depletion of fossil fuels and environmental harm caused by the fossil fueled air-conditioning systems. Heat pumps can be air source, waterborne, ground source due to the ambient that they transfer or reject heat. Water is the most efficient way to transfer heat in comparison to other resources. Considering cooling systems, waterborne systems are more efficient and smaller than air source systems. As it is known, air temperature is very high in the Mediterranean region hence COP (coefficient of performance) of air source heat pumps decrease. This study carries out the energy analysis of a heat pump which transfers the heat between cooled space and hot water tank. The waterborne air pump is installed in the Thermodynamics Laboratory of Engineering Faculty of Akdeniz University and the energy analysis of both cooling system and hot water supply is performed based on various parameters for a sample day. Mean water heating, space cooling and overall COP are calculated as 2.61, 2.08 and 4.69, respectively.

Possible use of a novel portable desalination system was investigated experimentally. The system is based on humidification–dehumidification principle and thermoelectric cooling technique. A thermoelectric cooler was integrated into the system to enhance the process of both humidification and dehumidification. A prototype was fabricated and its performance was tested for various working conditions of the prototype to observe complex relation between psychrometric and thermoelectric phenomena. The effect of feed water mass flow rate and air flow velocity on the COP value of the thermoelectric cooler and clean water production of the system were examined. The maximum daily yield of the system and the COP value of the thermoelectric cooler unit were recorded as 143.6 g and 0.78, respectively.

In this study, effects of using nanofluids on heat transfer performance in automobile radiators were investigated. Four different types of nanoparticles were prepared to be used in nanofluids; (i) pure Ti O 2 , (ii) Ti O 2 doped with 0.1% Ag , (iii) Ti O 2 doped with 0.3% Ag , (iv) Ti O 2 doped with 0.1% Cu . These nanoparticles added into the base-fluid (50:50 ethylene glycol – water mixture by volume) with ratios of 0.3, 0.5, 1 and 2%. The results of this study were evaluated both experimentally and theoretically. According to the experimental results, a net change was observed in thermal conductivity of 0.3% Ag -doped nanofluids. The highest increase for the nanofluids with concentrations of 1% and 2% was found to be 5.615% and 11.094%, respectively. A theoretical analysis was conducted to find the maximum potential of nanofluids without operational problems. It is safe to say that doping with Ag improves the heat transfer properties of nanoparticles, and this improvement is consistent with the increase in the doping amount. According to the results of the theoretical analysis, the increase in convection heat transfer coefficient was determined to be 26.15% and 27.72% for 0.3% Ag -doped Ti O 2 nanofluids with concentrations of 1% and 2%, respectively.

Due to use of alternative energy sources and energy efficient operation, heat pumps come into prominence in recent years. Especially in solar-assisted heat pumps, sizing the required system is difficult and arduous task in order to provide optimum working conditions. Therefore, in this study solar assisted indirect expanded heat pump space heating system is simulated and the results of the simulation are compared with available experimental data in the literature in order to present reliability of the model. Solar radiation values in the selected region are estimated with the simulation. The case study is applied and simulation results are given for Antalya, Turkey. Collector type and storage tank capacity effects on the consumed power of the compressor, COP of the heat pump and the overall system are estimated with the simulation, depending on the radiation data, collector surface area and the heating capacity of the space. Exergy analysis is also performed with the simulation and irreversibility, improvement potentials and exergy efficiencies of the heat pump and system components are estimated.

The aim of this paper is to investigate the local differences between body segments caused by high radiant temperature, and to analyze the interior surface temperatures for different wall and ceiling constructions with their effect on thermal comfort. For the segment-wise thermal interactions between human body and its surrounding, simulations have been conducted by appropriately modifying Gagge 2-node model to multi-segment case to demonstrate the local differences. Simulation results are found to be in good agreement with experimental and simulation results reported in the literature. To calculate the interior surface temperatures of the wall and ceiling, the sol–air temperature approach is used for convenience. It is shown in the paper that the body segments close the relatively hot surfaces are more affected than others and interior surface temperatures of un-insulated walls and ceilings exposed to a strong solar radiation reach high levels, all of which cause thermal discomfort for the occupants in buildings.

This paper presents a study dealing with the experimental and theoretical analysis of a flat plate solar air heater. The air collectors were tested experimentally for the tilt angle of 35$^{\circ}$ and 2 m $s^{-1}$ air velocity, and ambient temperature, inlet temperature, outlet temperature, absorber plate temperature, bottom plate temperature, solar radiation, air velocity, and airflow velocity from the duct were measured. The outlet air temperature and energy and exergy efficiencies of the collector were calculated theoretically. The results showed that the collector has the maximum mean outlet temperature for the airflow velocity of 1 m $s^{-1}$, duct height of 0.001 m, triple glass cover, and length of 3 m; the maximum mean energy efficiency for the airflow velocity of 4 m $s^{-1}$, duct height of 0.04 m, triple glass cover, and length of 1 m; and the maximum mean exergy efficiency for the airflow velocity of 1 m $s^{-1}$, duct height of 0.005 m, triple glass cover, and length of 3 m. This study demonstrated the superiority of exergy analysis over energy analysis before the decision regarding design parameters.

With developing technology and the rapid increase in world population, the demand for energy is ever increasing. Conventional energy will not be enough to meet the continuously increasing need for energy in the future. In this case, renewable energy sources will become important. Solar energy is a very important energy source because of its advantages. Instead of a compressor system, which uses electricity, an absorption cooling system, using renewable energy and kinds of waste heat energy, may be used for cooling. In this study, a solar-powered, single stage, absorption cooling system, using a water–lithium bromide solution, is simulated. A modular computer program has been developed for the absorption system to simulate various cycle configurations and solar energy parameters for Antalya, Turkey. So, the effects of hot water inlet temperatures on the coefficient of performance (COP) and the surface area of the absorption cooling components are studied. In addition, reference temperatures which are the minimum allowable hot water inlet temperatures are determined and their effect on the fraction of the total load met by non–purchased energy (FNP) and the coefficient of performance are researched. Also, the effects of the collector type and storage tank mass are investigated in detail.

In an absorption cooling system, simultaneous heat and mass transfer operations take place in the absorber and generator. The performance of an absorber is of paramount importance on the coefficient of performance and the manufacturing cost of an absorption machine. Increasing heat and mass transfer coefficients in an absorber decreases the heat transfer area of the absorber, as a result of this the cost of the system can be reduced. The absorption of water vapor in aqueous solutions of lithium bromide is modelled for a falling-film, vertical-tube absorber. Heat and mass transfer coefficients are determined by calculating temperature and concentration variations at the falling film in the absorber. Then mean Nusselt and Sherwood numbers are determined to see the changes in the heat and mass transfer. Subsequently, a modular computer program has been developed for absorption systems to simulate various cycle configurations and absorber parameters. So, the effect of hot water, chilled water and cooling water inlet temperatures on the coefficients of performance, Nusselt and Sherwood numbers and the surface area of the absorber are studied with the simulation program. The results can be used to optimise the commercial absorption chillers.

Humidity, one of the most confusing of all climatic parameters in assessing the indoor climate, affects comfort in a number of ways both directly and indirectly, and the avenues by which humidity affects comfort are not completely known. The aim of this study is to comprehend the effects of humidity on thermal interaction between the human body and its environment, and thermal sensation. In this chapter, the effect of humidity on heat and water balance of human body, and in turn on body temperatures and thermal sensation, is investigated. A mathematical model of heat and mass interaction between the human body and the surrounding environment has been established, and the effect of air humidity has been examined under various relative humidity levels by means of using the empirical relations that express thermoregulatory control mechanisms. In the numerical model, human body has been separated into 16 sedentary segments, and possible local discomforts have been taken into consideration. Using the model, changes in the sensible and latent heat losses, body temperatures, skin wettedness, and thermal comfort indices have been calculated and results have been discussed explicitly.

The purpose of this research is to investigate the relative humidity effects on skin temperature and skin wettedness for different operative temperatures. For this aim, thermal interactions between human body and environment are simulated. In this simulation, Gagge 2-node model is used but includes some significant modifications. The simulation is to apply the Gagge 2-node model to individual segments rather than to whole body. Also, the results of the simulation are compared with present measurements, and available experimental data and simulated results in the literature in order to present reliability of the 16 segments-Gagge 2-node model. It is determined that the simulation results are in good agreement with measured results obtained from present experiments, and simulated results and experimental data in the literature.

Bu tez çalışmasında her biri çekirdek–kabuk yapısına sahip üç farklı nanoakışkan kullanılarak, bu nanoakışkanların kapalı devre güneş enerji sisteminin performansı üzerine etkileri incelenmiştir. Kullanılan nanoakışkanlar sırasıyla SiO2 kabuk – TiO2 çekirdek, SiO2 kabuk – Fe3O4 çekirdek ve SiO2 kabuk – ZnO çekirdek içeren partiküller ile elde edilmiştir. Baz akışkan olarak su kullanılan nanoakışkanların her üçünün konsantrasyonu da kütlece %2 olacak şekilde hazırlanmıştır. Nanoakışkanların ısıl performansa etkilerini incelemek için birbirinin aynısı iki deney düzeneği hazırlanmıştır. Deney sistemleri düz plakalı kollektöre sahip doğal sirkülasyonlu kapalı devre güneş enerjili sıcak su hazırlama sistemleridir. Sistemlerden birinde çalışma akışkanı olarak saf su kullanılırken diğerinde nanoakışkanlar sıralı olarak kullanılmıştır. Böylece saf su kullanılan sistemin performansı referans kabul edilerek nanoakışkan kullanımının performans üzerine etkisinin görülmesi amaçlanmıştır. Kollektör giriş sıcaklığı, kollektör çıkış sıcaklığı, yutucu yüzey sıcaklığı, depo sıcaklığı, çevre sıcaklığı, güneş ışınım şiddeti ve rüzgâr hızı gibi parametrelerin zamanla değişimi kayıt altına alınarak iki farklı sistemin sistematik bir şekilde karşılaştırılması sağlanmıştır. Çalışma sonucunda; Fe3O4-SiO2 ve ZnO-SiO2 esaslı nanoakışkan ile performans artışı elde edilirken, TiO2-SiO2 esaslı nanoakışkanla bu artış gözlenememiştir. TiO2-SiO2 esaslı nanoakışkan ile saf su kullanılan sisteme oranla taşınım katsayısında %4.13 azalma, Fe3O4-SiO2 kullanılan sistemde %8.60 artış ve ZnO-SiO2 esaslı nanoakışkan kullanılan sistemde taşınım katsayısında %3.07 artış tespit edilmiştir. TiO2-SiO2 çekirdek-kabuk yapılı nanoakışkanın kullanıldığı kollektörde toplanan ortalama faydalı enerjide saf suya göre %1.97 azalma tespit edilirken, Fe3O4-SiO2 esaslı nanakışkanın kullanıldığı kollektörde saf suya nazaran %16.65, ZnO-SiO2 çekirdek-kabuk yapıdaki nanoakışkanın kullanıldığı kollektörde ise saf suya göre %5.4 artış olduğu görülmüştür. TiO2-SiO2, Fe3O4-SiO2 ve ZnO-SiO2 esaslı nanoakışkanların kullanıldığı sistemlerin ortalama verimlerinde sırasıyla; %4.43 azalma, %16.25 artış ve %7.39 artış olduğu tespit edilmiştir.

Ülkemizde tüketilen enerjinin yaklaşık %35'inin binalarda tüketildiği, bunun da yaklaşık %70-90 kadarının ısıtma – soğutma için olduğu göz önüne alındığında bireysel iklimlendirme cihazlarında enerji verimliliği sağlayacak yeniliklerin ele alınması son derece önem arz etmektedir. Bu kapsamda bu çalışmada kondenseri evaporatif soğutulan bireysel iklimlendirme cihaz performansı incelenmiştir. Çalışmada 2,5 kW kapasiteli iki ayrı buhar sıkıştırmalı mekanik soğutma çevrimi prensibi ile çalışan iklimlendirme cihazının biri geleneksel hava soğutmalı kondenserli çalıştırılırken diğerinin kondenseri evaporatif olarak soğutulmuş böylece sistemlerin enerji performansları sistematik bir yaklaşımla analiz edilmiştir. Yapılan ölçümler ile sistemlerin soğutma kapasiteleri, elektrik tüketimleri ve performans katsayıları (COP) karşılaştırılarak kondenserin evaporatif soğutulmasının enerji verimliliği üzerine etkisi ve oranları tespit edilmiştir. Literatürde konu üzerine yapılan çalışmalar incelendiğinde birçoğunun yüksek kapasiteli cihazlar için olduğu ve yerel veriler ile tespitlerin yapıldığı görülmüştür. Çalışmada R410A soğutucu akışkanı kullanan oransal kontrollü kompresöre sahip bireysel iklimlendirme cihaz performansının tipik Akdeniz iklim kuşağında yer alan Antalya iklimsel verileri ile analiz edilecek olması açısından çalışma özgün değer içermektedir. Bireysel iklimlendirme cihaz kondenserinin evaporatif soğutulmasıyla COP maksimum %47,08 artmış, kompresör elektrik tüketimi ise maksimum %18,15 düşmüştür. Artış ve azalma oranları dış ortamın nem ve sıcaklığına bağlı olarak değişim göstermiştir. Considering that approximately 35% of the energy consumption in Turkey is consumed in buildings and about 70-90% of this energy is used for heating and cooling purposes, it is very important to focus on the innovations that will provide energy efficiency in split type air-conditioning systems. In this context, the performance of the air conditioning system which has an evaporatively cooling condenser has been examined in this study. In the study, two different systems, which both operate with vapor compression (mechanical) refrigeration cycle principles and both have 2,5 kW cooling capacity, were compared. One of the systems was operated with a conventional air-cooled condenser while the other one was operated with an evaporative cooled condenser. Thus the performance of the systems was analysed by a systematic approach. By comparing the cooling capacities, electricity consumptions and coefficients of performance (COPs) of the systems, the effect of evaporative cooling of the condenser on the energy efficiency and the impact ratios were determined. When the studies performed on the subject were investigated, it was seen that many of them were for high capacity systems and conclusions were made with regional data. The performance of the split type air conditioning system with an inverter controlled compressor was analysed for the refrigerant R410A. This study is the first to investigate the performance of a split type air conditioning system with evaporative cooled condenser at climatic conditions of Antalya, which is located in the typical Mediterranean climate zone. With the evaporative cooling of the condenser of the split type air conditioner, the COP increased by 47.08%, and the compressor electricity consumption decreased by 18.15%. The increasing and decreasing rates have changed depending on the humidity and temperature of the outdoor environment. 98

Günümüzde, birçok insan orta veya uzak mesafedeki yerlere seyahat etmek için otobüsleri kullanmaktadır. Seyahat esnasında otobüs kapıları uzun süre kapalı kalmaktadır ve otobüs klima sistemi, yolcuların konforlu seyahat edebilmeleri için ideal konfor şartlarını sağlamaya çalışmaktadır. Isıl konfor sağlamasına rağmen, bu durum iç hava kalitesinin bozulmasına neden olmaktadır. Bu yüzden şehirlerarası otobüslerde iç hava kalitesi ön plana çıkmaktadır.Bu çalışmada, şehirlerarası otobüslerde iç hava kalitesini ve enerji verimliliğini sağlamak için ısı geri kazanım cihazı tasarlanmıştır. Otobüs kabinine alınacak taze hava ile temiz bir iç ortam oluşturulurken enerji verimliliği sağlayan ısı geri kazanım cihazı tasarlamak amaçlanmıştır. Gerekli taze hava miktarının tespiti ve şehirlerarası otobüsler için en uygun ısı geri kazanım cihazının belirlenmesi için üç farklı simülasyon çalışması yapılmıştır. İlk çalışmada, kabindeki CO2 seviyesi dikkate alınarak taze hava miktarı tespit edilmiştir. İkinci ve üçüncü simülasyon çalışmasında düz plakalı ve dalgalı çubuk kanatçıklı olmak üzere iki farklı ısı geri kazanım cihazı incelenmiştir. Çok sayıda değişkenin her iki ısı geri kazanım cihazının etkenliği ve boyutları üzerine etkisi teorik olarak incelenmiş ve bu cihazlar karşılaştırılmıştır. Bu simülasyon çalışmaları, MATLAB programı kullanılarak yapılmıştır. Sonuç olarak, belli bir taze hava debisi için cihazların boyutları ve etkenlikleri bulunmuş ve şehirlerarası otobüsler için ideal bir ısı geri kazanım cihazı ortaya çıkarılmıştır. Hence, indoor air quality become important for intercity busesIn this study, a heat recovery device is designed to provide indoor air quality and energy efficiency for intercity buses. The aim of this study is to design the heat recovery device which supplies fresh air to bus cabin for clean indoor environment while maintaining energy efficiency. For intercity buses, three different simulations are carried out to determine the amount of required fresh air and optimum heat recovery device. In the first study, fresh air flow rate is identified considering the carbon dioxide concentration on bus. In the second and third studies, two different heat recovery devices (i.e. flat plate and offset strip fin heat exchanger) are investigated. The effect of various parameters on the effectiveness and sizes of both devices are investigated and compared. These simulations are done with MATLAB software. In conclusion, dimensions and effectiveness of devices are calculated and an optimum heat recovery device is designed. 120

Bu tez çalışması kapsamında otomobil radyatörlerinde nanoakışkan kullanımının ısı transfer performansı üzerine etkisi araştırılmıştır. 4 farklı türde nanopartikül, nanoakışkanlarda kullanılmak üzere hazırlanmıştır; (i) saf TiO_2, (ii) %0.1 Ag katkılı TiO_2, (iii) %0.3 Ag katkılı TiO_2, (iv) %0.1 Cu katkılı TiO_2. İlgili nanopartiküller temel akışkan içerisine (hacimce 50:50 oranında etilen glikol – su çözeltisi) %0.3, 0.5, 1 ve 2 oranlarında eklenmiştir. Deneyler gerçek bir otomobil radyatörünün kullanıldığı ve uygulamadaki sistemlere mümkün olan en yakın şartlarda tasarlanmış bir düzenekte farklı debi değerleri (17, 19, 21, 23 ve 25 l/dk) için gerçekleştirilmiştir. İlgili debi değerlerine karşılık gelen Reynolds sayıları (Re); temel akışkan için 337 – 496 aralığında değişirken, nanoakışkanlar ise 370 – 830 aralığında değerler almıştır. Radyatörün hava tarafında ise 3500 m3/h'lik sabit debi (Re=930) ile çalışılmıştır. Deney düzeneğinde performansı test edilen akışkanların aynı şartlar altında karşılaştırılabilmesi için tüm deneyler yaklaşık 8.6 kW sabit ısıtıcı gücü ile yapılmıştır. Tez çalışmasının ana hedefi, otomobil radyatörlerinde kullanılan geleneksel soğutma sıvılarının yerine nanoakışkanlar kullanarak ısıl performansın arttırılmasıdır. Böyle bir çalışma gerçekleştirerek ulaşılmaya çalışılan fayda ise motor soğutma sistemlerinin boyutlarını küçülterek, daha hafif ve daha az yakıt tüketen araçlar geliştirilmesine katkı sağlamaktır. Böylece ulaşım endüstrisi gibi çok geniş bir kullanım alanına yönelik önemli bir iyileştirme yapılmış olacaktır. Bu hedefe yönelik olarak yapılan çalışmada, birçok yenilikçi yaklaşım ile hareket edilmiştir. Metal katkılanmış metal oksit yapıların saf hallerine kıyasla daha iyi veya tamamen farklı özellikler sergilediği bilinmektedir. Ancak Cu ve Ag gibi yüksek ısı iletim katsayısına sahip metallerin katkılandığı TiO_2 temelli nanoakışkanların hazırlanması ve bunların ısıl sistemlerde kullanılmasına dair bir çalışmaya literatürde rastlanmamıştır. Bu tip yeni tür nanoakışkanların, nanoakışkan kullanımının bile henüz çok yeni olduğu otomobil radyatörü model soğutma sisteminde denenmesi ve partikül özelliği – motor soğutma sistem parametreleri ilişkilerinin incelenmesi bütünüyle yeni, özgün ve kapsamlı bir çalışmadır. Nanoakışkanlar gerek içerdikleri nanopartiküller gerekse hazırlanma yöntemleri açısından birbirlerinden oldukça farklıdır. Dolayısıyla termofiziksel özelliklerin ampirik denklemler ile tespiti oldukça zordur ve önemli hatalara yol açar. Bu nedenle tez çalışması kapsamında özgün olarak hazırlanıp kullanılan tüm nanopartikül ve nanoakışkanların termofiziksel özellikleri, sıcaklığa bağlı değişimleri de göz önünde bulundurularak deneysel ölçümler ile tespit edilmiş, hesaplarda hassas şekilde kullanılmış ve literatüre kazandırılmıştır. Nanoakışkanlar hazırlanırken kararlılık sağlamak amacıyla ek kimyasallar kullanılmamıştır. Çünkü süspansiyon içerisine eklenen her yeni kimyasal, karışıma başka özellikler kazandırarak incelenmek istenen nanoakışkanı sadelikten uzaklaştırmaktadır. Bu yönleriyle mevcut tez çalışması, literatürde karşılaşılan çalışmaların büyük bir çoğunluğundan ayrılmaktadır. Çalışmanın sonuçları hem deneysel hem de teorik analizler ile değerlendirilmiştir. Deneysel sonuçlara göre konsantrasyon artışına bağlı olarak ısıl iletkenliğinde net bir değişim gözlenen grup %0.3 Ag katkılı nanoakışkanlar olmuştur. İlgili nanoakışkanlarda nanopartikül konsantrasyonu arttıkça, logaritmik ortalama sıcaklık farkı düşmüş, toplam ısı transfer katsayısı artmıştır. En büyük artış, %1 ve %2 konsantrasyona sahip akışkanlarda sırasıyla %5.615 ve %11.094 olarak tespit edilmiştir. Isı transferindeki artışı basınç kayıpları ile bir arada değerlendiren performans analizinin sonuçlarına göre, deneysel performans faktörünün 1'den büyük olduğu (η>1) akışkanlar, aynı akışkanlar olmuştur. Uygulamada yaşanan problemlerin çözülmesi halinde nanoakışkanların ulaşabilecekleri maksimum potansiyelin tespiti amacıyla teorik analizler gerçekleştirilmiştir. Akışkanları termofiziksel özellikleri temelinde kıyaslayan Mouromtseff sayısına göre, 13 nanoakışkanın tamamının, temel akışkandan daha iyi olduğu sonucuna varılmıştır. Bu potansiyel en düşükten en yükseğe doğru olmak üzere saf TiO_2'den % 0.1 ve %0.3 katkılı akışkanlara doğru sıralanmaktadır. Ag katkısının sentezlenen nanopartiküllerin ısı transfer özelliklerini iyileştirmede en başarılı olduğu ve katkı oranı arttıkça sağlanan faydanın arttığını söylemek mümkündür. Akışkanların ısıl iletkenlik ölçümleri de bu sonuçları destekler niteliktedir. Teorik analiz sonuçlarına göre taşınım katsayısındaki artışlar %0.3 Ag katkılı %1 ve %2'lik nanoakışkanlarda sırasıyla %26.15 ve %27.72 olarak tespit edilmiştir.

Dünya üzerindeki fosil yakıtların azalması, fosil yakıt kaynaklı iklimlendirme sistemlerinin çevreye olan zararları ve çevre bilincinin gelişmesi gibi birçok sebepten dolayı ısı pompası sistemlerinin her geçen gün ülkemizde de yaygınlaşmaktadır. Isı pompaları ısıyı çektiği ve aktardığı ortamlara göre toprak, su ya da hava kaynaklı olabilirler. Su diğer kaynak çeşitlerine göre enerji transferindeki en verimli yoldur. Soğutma sistemlerinde su kaynaklı sistemler, hava kaynaklı sistemlere göre daha verimli ve küçük boyutludur. Akdeniz bölgesi yıllık sıcaklıklarına bakıldığında, yaz ayları hava sıcaklık değerlerinin çok yüksek olduğu görülmektedir. Bu da hava kaynaklı ısı pompalarının performans katsayılarını (COP) düşürmektedir. Bu çalışma, soğutulan ortamdan çekilen enerjiyi kullanım sıcak su deposuna aktaran bir ısı pompasının mahal soğutma ve sıcak su elde etmesindeki performansı, seçim nedenleri, uygulanabilirliği üzerinedir. Örnek uygulama olarak Mühendislik Fakültesi Termodinamik Laboratuvarına su kaynaklı ısı pompası tasarımı yapılarak, eşzamanlı olarak mekân soğutulması yapılırken, sıcak su eldesinin çeşitli parametrelere bağlı olarak enerji ve ekserji analizleri gerçekleştirilmiştir. Yaz mevsimi şartlarında yapılan deneyler sonucunda ortalama su ısıtma COP değerinin 2.55, mekân soğutma COP değerinin 2.20 ve birleşik COP değerinin de 4.75 olduğu hesaplanmıştır. Yapılan analizlerde ekserji yok oluşunun ve iyileştirme potansiyelinin sistem elemanları içinde en fazla kompresörde olduğu görülmüştür.

Isı pompaları son yıllarda alternatif enerji kaynaklarına ve enerji verimli uygulamalara artan ilgi nedeniyle öne çıkmaktadır. Özellikle güneş enerjisi destekli ısı pompalarında, sistemin optimum çalışma şartlarına göre boyutlandırılması oldukça zor ve çaba gerektiren bir işlemdir. Bu nedenle mevcut çalışmada hacim ısıtma amaçlı, güneş enerjisi destekli, su kaynaklı endirekt ısı pompası sistemi için bir simülasyon oluşturulmuş ve simülasyon sonuçları literatürdeki deneysel çalışmalar ile karşılaştırılarak modelin güvenilirliği araştırılmıştır. Oluşturulan simülasyon ile istenilen bölge için güneş ışınımı değerlerini hesaplamak mümkündür. Bu çalışmada hesaplamalar Antalya için yapılmış ve sonuçlar elde edilmiştir. Depo kapasitesi, kollektör tipi ve kondenser gücünün değişiminin, depo sıcaklığı, kompresörde tüketilen güç ile ısı pompası ve tüm sistemin COP değerleri üzerine etkisi incelenmiş ve sistem için optimum boyutlara karar verilmiştir. Belirlenen optimum boyutlardaki sistemin simülasyon ile ekserji analizleri gerçekleştirilmiş ve ısı pompası ile tüm sistem elemanlarının tersinmezlikleri, iyileştirme potansiyelleri ve ekserji verimleri hesaplanmıştır. Due to the use of alternative energy sources and energy efficient operation, heat pumps come into prominence in recent years. Especially in solar ? assisted heat pumps, sizing the required system is difficult and arduous task in order to provide optimum working conditions. Therefore, in this study solar assisted indirect expanded heat pump space heating system is simulated and the results of the simulation are compared with available experimental data in the literature in order to present reliability of the model. It is possible to estimate the solar radiation values in the selected region with the simulation. The case study is applied and simulation results are given for Antalya, Turkey. The effect of change in the storage tank capacity, collector type and condanser power over the consumed power of the compressor, COP of the heat pump and the overall system are investigated and optimal sizing for the system components are determined. For this system, exergy analysis is also performed with the simulation and irreversibility, improvement potentials and exergy efficiencies of the heat pump and system components are estimated. 175
