Amaç: Bu çalışmada, bıldırcınlarda deneysel toksoplazmozis oluşturulması; klinik, patolojik, serolojik ve bioassay tekniklerle doku lezyonlarının, karşılaştırılması ve patogenezin belirlenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Yöntemler: Bu amaçla, 1 yaşında 120 adet dişi Japon bıldırcını (Coturnix coturnix japonica) oral, parenteral yollarla ve aynı zamanda onların kontrol grupları olarak gruplandırılmışlardır. Oral gruba 0,5 ml'sinde 106 takizoit içeren inokulum verilirken bunun kontrol grubuna 0,5 ml serum fizyolojik verilmiştir. Parenteral grup İntraperitoneal (İP), İntramuskuler (İM), İntravenöz (İV) ve Kloakal (K) olarak dört gruba ayrılmıştır. Her bir parenteral yol da 0,5 ml'sinde 104 ve 105 takizoit içeren inokulum verilmesi için kendi içerisinde iki gruba ve birer kontrol grubuna ayrılmıştır. Bulgular: İntramuskuler 105 takizoit verilen grupta bir bıldırcında akut toksoplazmozise bağlı tortikollis, ataksi ve tremor gibi sinirsel klinik belirtileri takiben ölüm şekillenmiştir. Bu bıldırcının histopatolojisinde Toxoplasma gondii doku kistleri gözlenmiştir. Seropozitif bıldırcınlardan alınan doku örnekleri ile bioassay testleri yapılmıştır ve testlerde kullanılan farelerin periton sıvısında parazit takizoitleri izole edilmiştir. Sabin-Feldman Dye Test ve İndirekt Hemaglutinasyon ile 104 ve 105 takizoit gruplarında seropozitiflik belirlenmiştir. Sonuç: Yapılacak benzer çalışmalarda ve gözden kaçabilecek subklinik vakalarda toksoplazmozisin tanısı için serolojik testler ile bioassay uygulamalarının birlikte yapılmasının yararlı olacağı kanaatine varılmıştır., Objective: In this study, forming of experimental toxoplasmosis in quails; clinical, pathological, and serological determination of tissue lesions and bioassay techniques, which were aimed to compare them and determine pathogenesis.Methods: A total of 120 one-year-old female quails (Coturnix coturnix japonica) were divided into oral infection, parenteral infection, and control groups. The oral group was infected with 0.5 ml inoculum suspension containing 106 tachyzoites of Toxoplasma gondii, whereas the control group was administered 0.5 ml of saline. The parenteral group was further divided into the following four subgroups: intraperitoneal, intramuscular, intravenous, and cloacal. The quails of the parenteral group were also divided into two groups and one by control group within itself for the 105 and 104 doses of the tachyzoite inoculums.Results: Because of acute toxoplasmosis, death occurred in a quail that as intramuscularly infected with 105 tachyzoites; the quail exhibited neurological clinical symptoms such as torticollis, ataxia, and tremor. In histopathologic examination, T. gondii tissue cysts were detected in infected quails that were intramuscularly infected with 105 tachyzoites. Mouse trials were conducted using tissues of seropositive quails and isolated from peritoneal fluids infected mice. By Sabin-Feldman dye test and indirect hemagglutination test, seropositivity was observed in quails infected with 105 and 104 tachyzoites. Conclusion: Similar studies and subclinical cases, which may overlooked was concluded for diagnosis of toxoplasmosis with useful bioassay applications and serological tests.

Keneler zorunlu kan emici ektoparazitlerden olup birçok ölümcül hastalık etkeninin de vektörü olarak bilinmektedir. Kırım Kongo Kanamalı Ateşi virüsü (KKKAV) kene kaynaklı önemli virüslerden biri olup Bunyaviridae ailesinde, Nairovirüs cinsinde yer almaktadır. Bu çalışmada, Kütahya yöresindeki çiftlik hayvanlarından toplam 228 olgun kene toplanmış ve bunların laboratuvar ortamında tür teşhisleri yapılmıştır. Hyalomma marginatum, Dermacentor marginatus, Rhipicephalus sanguineus, Rhipicephalus bursa, Rhipicephalus turanicus, Rhipicephalus (Boophilus) annulatus olmak üzere toplam altı tür saptanmıştır. Bu kenelerden türlerine ve cinsiyetlerine göre 88 havuz oluşturulmuştur. Bu havuzlardan virüs tespiti ve virüsün S segmentinin sekansını belirleyebilmek için reverse transkripsiyon polimeraz zincir reaksiyonu (RT-PCR) ve nested-PCR kullanılmıştır. Analizler sonucunda KKKAV yalnızca H. marginatum türüne ait kene örneklerinden oluşturulmuş 10 havuzda saptanmıştır. Pozitif bulunan izolatların filogenetik analizleri sonucunda, çalışmada elde edilen virüs izolatının Güneybatı Rusya, Kosova ve Türkiye’de önceden belirlenmiş suşlar ile aynı clusterda yer aldığı tespit edilmiştir, Ticks are obligatory blood-sucking ectoparasites and known as the vectors of many deadly diseases. CrimeanCongo Hemorrhagic Fever (CCHF) virus is an important tick-borne virus in the family Bunyaviridae, genus Nairovirus. In our study, the total of 228 mature ticks were collected from farm animals in the region of Kutahya and the identifications of these species were made in the laboratory. A total of six species belong to Hyalomma marginatum, Dermacentor marginatus, Rhipicephalus sanguineus, Rhipicephalus bursa, Rhipicephalus turanicus, Rhipicephalus (Boophilus) annulatus were identified. 88 pools were consisted accordance with these species and genders. Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) and Nested-PCR were used in order to identify the virus and to determine the S segment sequence of the virus from the pools. The presence of CCHF virus was only detected in 10 pools consisted from H. marginatum. As a result of the phylogenetic analysis of the positive isolates, it was determined that CCHF viruses isolated in this study clustered together with the strains predetermined in Southwestern Russia, Kosovo and Turkey

A total of 554 cattle from the Cappadocia region were divided into 5 different groups according to vaccination and were examined for Theileria annulata by microscope and indirect fluorescence antibody test (IFAT). The sampled cattle were checked for tick infestation. The prevalence of T. annulata was 60.5% by microscopic examination and 67.5% by IFAT. According to the microscopic examination, the prevalence of T. annulata was significantly (P < 0.001) higher in the unvaccinated group. The seropositivity according to IFAT was significantly (P < 0.001) lower in the unvaccinated group. The morbidity was significantly (P < 0.001) higher in the unvaccinated, semi-grazed, pure breed, and >2 years age groups. The mortality was significantly higher in the unvaccinated (P < 0.001), semi-grazed (P < 0.05), pure breed (P < 0.05), and female (P < 0.001) groups. A total of 1585 tick specimens belonging to the genera Hyalomma, Rhipicephalus, Dermacentor, Boophilus, and Ornithodorus were detected in 21.48% of examined cattle. The developing forms of T. annulata were determined in the H. anatolicum anatolicum ticks microscopically. Out of 554 cattle, 156 (27.61%) were diagnosed with acute tropical theileriosis. Out of these 156 cattle, 86 (56.21%) died due to the disease.

The expression of the calcium-binding protein S100 and its subunits a and b in the intracellular protozoon Eimeria tenella was investigated. For this purpose, anti-S100 whole molecule polyclonal antibody and anti-S100 a and anti-S100 b monoclonal antibodies were used on paraffin sections collected from the cecum, ileum, colon, rectum, and bursa of Fabricius of chicks experimentally infected with E. tenella. One hundred seventy-five 2- to 3-day-old specific pathogen-free chicks were used. The chicks were divided into experiment and control groups, to include 94 and 81 chicks, respectively. All the chicks in the experimental group received 10,000 spored oocytes in 0.5 ml inoculum in a single dose. The duration of the experiment was limited to 18 days. All 175 chicks were sacrificed by cervical dislocation between hours 1 and 432 following inoculation. The streptavidin-biotin complex method was used to detect the immunoreactivity of the antibodies used. The results revealed a positive immune reaction for the S100 whole molecule and for a and b subunits in the schizonts, microgametes, macrogametes, and oocytes of the E. tenella in the cecum, ileum, colon, rectum, and bursa of Fabricius. These results show that both a and b subunits of the S100 protein existed in all the endogenous phases of E. tenella. These proteins are likely to mediate the parasitic development of E. tenella within host cells.

Olgunun materyalini Erciyes Üniversitesi Veteriner Fakültesi kliniklerine iştahsızlık, halsizlik, apati ve sarılık şika- yetiyle getirilen, 3 yaşlı, erkek, sarman kedi oluşturdu. Yapılan klinik muayenede hayvanda şiddetli dehidrasyon, tüm mukozalarda ve deride ikterus, apati, kene enfestasyonu belirlendi. Hematolojik muayenede; anisositosis, trombositopeni, makrositik hipokromik anemi, lökositozis, neutropeni, lenfositozis, monositozis, basofili ve serum biyo- kimyasal incelemesinde glukoz 176 mg/dl, BUN 140 mg/dl, kreatinin 5.2 mg/dl, AST 1822 U/L, ALT 2703 U/L, total protein 7.6 g/dl, total bilirubin 27.3 mg/dl, konjuge bilirubin 20.3mg/dl olarak belirlendi. Giemsa ile boyanan perifer kan frotisinde Haemobartonella felis (Mycoplasma haemofelis) tanısı konuldu. Hasta, oksitetrasiklin(Pan-Terramycine flk., Pfizer) ile 10 gün süreyle tedavi edildi. Tedavi sonrası, klinik olarak hastanın iyileştiği ve hematolojik muayenede; eritrosit 3.90 x106 /µl, lökosit 28.7x103 /µl, neutrofil 17.7 x103 /µl, lenfosit 6.5 x103 /µl, serum biyokimyasal incelemesinde; glukoz 94 mg/dl, BUN 169 mg/dl, kreatinin 5.1mg/dl, AST 74 U/L, ALT 52 U/L, total protein 8.8 g/dl, total bilirubin 2.3 mg/dl ve konjuge bilirubin 1.4 mg/dl olarak belirlendi. Sonuç olarak; değerlendirilen olgunun haemobartonellozis olduğu tespit edildi. Kayseri’de belirlenen ilk haemobartonellozis olgusu olması nedeniyle bildiriminin yararlı olacağı kanısına varıldı., A three years old, male yellow cat referred to University of Erciyes, Veterinary Faculty Clinics with a history of anorexia, lethargy, apathy and icterus was included in the present case. Clinically was defined dehydration, apathy, tick infestation, icterus at all mucosa and skin. Hematological examination revealed anisocytosis, trombocytopeni, macrocytic hypocromic anemia, leucocytosis, neutropenia, lymphocytosis, monocytosis and basophilia. Serum biochemical examination revealed glucose 176 mg/dl, BUN 140 mg/dl, creatinine 5.2 mg/dl, AST 1822 U/L, ALT 2703 U/L, totally protein 7.6 g/dl, totally bilirubin 27.3 mg/dl, conjugate bilirubin 20.3mg/dl. Haemobartonella felis (Mycoplasma haemofelis) was detected at the peripheral smear. The patient was treated with oxytetracycline (Pan- Terramycine flk., Pfizer®) for 10 days. This cat recovered clinically after the treatment and its heamatological examination revealed erythrocyte 3.90 x106 /µl, leucocyte 28.7 x103 /µl, neutrophil 17.7 x103 /µl, lymphocyte 6.5 x103 /µl. At the serum biochemical examination was determined to be glucose 94 mg/dl, BUN 169 mg/dl, creatinine 5.1mg/dl, AST 74U/L, ALT 52 U/L, totally protein 8.8 g/dl, totally bilirubin 2.3 mg/dl and conjugate bilirubin 1.4 mg/dl. In conclusion, this case was detected to be haemobartonellosis. Being the first haemobartonellosis case detected in Kayseri, the case was considered worth presentation in this paper.

Bu çalışma, Kayseri’nin Yeşilhisar, Bünyan, Erkilet ve Sarız ilçelerinde bir grup sığırda fasciolosis’in yayılışını tespit etmek amacıyla Mayıs 2003-Nisan 2004 tarihleri arasında ≤2 yaş grubu 72, 35 yaş grubu 23 ve ³ 6 yaş grubu 25 olmak üzere toplam 120 sığır üzerinde yürütülmüştür. Toplanan dışkı örnekleri Modifiye McMaster Sedimentasyon yöntemiyle, kan örnekleri ise antikor ELISA yöntemleri ile incelenmiştir. Sığırlarda Fasciola hepatica’nın yayılışı dışkı bakısıyla %15,8, ELISA ile %69,2 olarak saptanmıştır. Dışkı bakısında diğer trematod yumurtalarına rastlanmamıştır. Fasciolosis’in yayılışı en yüksek (% 96,0) ≥6 yaş grubunda görülmüş, bunu %73,3 ile 3-5 yaş ve %58,3 ile ≤2 yaş grubu izlemiştir. Yaş grupları arasındaki farklılık istatistiksel açıdan önemli bulunmuştur (p0,05). Araştırma bölgelerindeki sığırlarda fasciolosis’in yayılışı Sarız’da %96,4, Bünyan’da %82,1, Yeşilhisar’da %65,5 ve Erkilet’de %40 olarak tespit edilmiştir, This study was carried out between May 2003-April 2004 to determine the distribution of fasciolosis in some cattle in Yeşilhisar, Bünyan, Erkilet and Sarız districts of Kayseri. Faeces and blood samples from 120 cattle were submitted, 72 of which obtained from ≤2 age group, 23 from 3-5 age group and 23 from ³ 6 age group. All samples were examined by modified McMaster sedimentation and antibody ELISA techniques. The coprological and serological distributions of fasciolosis in research area were determined as 15.8% and 69.2%, respectively. No other trematoda species were found in sampled cattle by faeces examination. The observed frequency was 96.0%, 73.3% and 58.3% in ≥6, 3-5 and ≤2 age groups, respectively. The differences between age groups were found significant (p0.05). The highest frequency was observed in Sarız (96.4%) district followed by Bünyan (82.1%), Yeşilhisar (65.5%) and Erkilet (%40) districts

This study was carried out to detect and compare the prevalence of bovine Theileria and Babesia species in the vicinity of Kayseri by microscopic examinations (ME) and reverse line blotting (RLB). A total of 337 cattle usually grazed on pasture in 13 different regions of Kayseri were sampled randomly. Blood samples were collected into tubes containing EDTA from jugular veins. Thin blood smears were prepared from ear capillaries. On microscopic examination of smears, 51 (15.1%) were positive for piroplasms. In the RLB assay, 61 (18.1%) were positive for T. annulata and 3 (0.9%) for T. buffeli/orientalis. Two (0.6%) of the animals were infected with B. bigemina and also had a concurrent infection of T. annulata. No animals were positive for B. bovis or B. divergens. The differences between ME and RLB results were statistically significant (P < 0.05).

Bu çalışma Kayseri Yeşilhisar yöresindeki koyun ve keçilerde, Reverse Line Blotting (RLB) testi ve mikroskobik bakı ile Babesia türlerinin prevalansını tespit etmek amacıyla yapılmıştır. Bu amaçla Yeşilhisar merkez ve köylerinden rastgele seçilen sağlıklı 200 koyun ve 100 keçi olmak üzere toplam 300 küçük ruminanttan EDTA’lı tüplere kan alınmıştır. Kanlar RLB testi ile Catch-all, Babesia ovis ve Theileria ovis yönünden incelenmiştir. Aynı zamanda bu hayvanlardan perifer kan frotileri hazırlanarak mikroskobik muayenesi yapılmıştır. Mikroskobik muayene ile 200 koyunun 28’inde (%14) ve 100 keçinin 5’inde (%5) toplam 300 hayvanın 33’ünde (%11) piroplasmik form görülmüştür. Bunların 9’unda (%27,3) Babesia spp. ve 24’ünde (%72,7) Theileria spp. tespit edilmiştir. RLB ile incelenen 200 koyunun 99’unda (%49,5) ve 100 keçinin 18’inde (%18) olmak üzere toplam 300 küçük ruminantın 117’sinde (%39) Catch-all pozitiflik saptanmıştır. Catch-all pozitif 99 koyunun 91’inde (%92) T. ovis, 3’ünde (%3) B. ovis ve 5’inde (%5) miks (B.ovis+T.ovis); 18 Catch-all pozitif keçinin 15’inde (%83,3) T. ovis, 1’inde (%5,6) B. ovis ve 2’sinde (%11,1) miks (B.ovis+T.ovis) enfeksiyon bulunmuştur. Toplam 117 Catch-all pozitifin 4’ünde (%3,4) B. ovis, 106’sında (%90,6) T. ovis ve 7’sinde de (%6) B. ovis+T. ovis (miks) tespit edilmiştir. Sonuç olurak koyun ve keçilerde Theileria ve Babesia türlerinin moleküler prevalansı, B. ovis için koyunlarda %4 (8/200), keçilerde %3 (3/100) ve toplamda %3,7 (11/300); T. ovis için koyunlarda %48 (96/200), keçilerde %17 (17/100) ve toplamda %37,6 (113/300) tespit edilmiştir. Babesia motasi ve B. crassa’ya ise rastlanamamıştır, This study was carried out to detect Babesia spp. prevalence by Reverse Line Blotting (RLB) test and microscopic examination on sheep and goats around Yeşilhisar in Kayseri region. For this purpose, the blood samples were randomly collected into the tubes with EDTA from a total of 300 healthy small ruminants that consisted of 200 sheep and 100 goats in Yeşilhisar its and vicinity. Blood samples were investigated against Catch-all, Babesia ovis and Theileria ovis using RLB test. In addition, peripheral blood smears were prepared and examined under the microscope. In the microscopic examination, piroplasms were determined in 28 (14%) of 200 sheep, 5 (5%) of 100 goats and totally 33 (11%) of 300 small ruminants. It was also determined that 9 (27.3%) of them had Babesia spp. and 24 (72.7%) of them had Theileria spp. In 300 small ruminants, Catch-all positive was found in 99 (49.5%) of 200 sheep and 18 (18%) of 100 goats, totally 117 (39%) of 300 using RLB. It was determined T. ovis in 91 (92%), B. ovis in 3 (3%) and B. ovis+T. ovis in 5 (5%) of 99 Catch-all positive sheep. Theileria ovis, B. ovis and B. ovis+T. ovis were found in 15 (83.3%), in 1 (5.6%) and in 2 (11.1%) of 18 Catch-all positive goats respectively. Totally, it was detected B. ovis in 4 (3.4%), T. ovis in 106 (90.6%) and B. ovis+T. ovis in 7 (6%) of 117 Catch-all positive small ruminants. As a result, molecular prevalence was determined in sheep 4% (8/200), in goats 3% (3/100) and in the total 3.6% (11/300) for B. ovis; in sheep 48% (96/200), in goats 17% (17/100) and in the total 37.6 % (113/300) for T. ovis, but B. motasi and B. crassa were not found in this study

Sunulan çalışmada Bursa ili Gemlik yöresi köpeklerde kalp kurdu hastalığı (Dirofilaria immitis) prevalansının tespiti amaçlandı. Çalışma Haziran 2004-Eylül 2004 tarihleri arasında, 0.5-2 yaş grubu 65, 3-6 yaş grubu 25 ve >7 yaş grubu 10 olmak üzere, toplam 100 köpek üzerinde yürütüldü. Köpeklerden alınan heparinli kan ömekleri natif ve modifiye Knott teknikleri ve serum ömekleri ise ticari ELISA test kiti ile değerlendirildi. Perifer kanda mikrofiler tayin yöntemleri ile yapılan incelemede köpeklerde enfeksiyona rastlanmazken, serolojik muayenede iki köpekte paraziter antijenler saptandı. Dirofilaria immitis enfeksiyonu tespit edilen bu iki köpeğin biri 3-6 yaş, diğeri ise 27 yaş grubu içerisinde yer almakta olup, her ikisinin cinsiyetinin de erkek olduğu dikkati çekmiştir. Sonuç olarak; Bursa ili Gemlik yöresinde köpekler arasında Dirofilaria immitis'in prevalansı % 2 olarak saptanmıştır (Okult enfeksiyon)., The purpose of this study was to determine the prevalence of heartworm disease (Dirofilaria immitis) infections in dogs in the Gemlik area, Bursa. This study was carried out between June 2004 and September 2004. A total of 100 dogs with various ages and sexes were included in the study. Of these, 65 were between 0.5 and 2 year old, 25 were 3-6 year old and 10 were over 7 year old. Heparinized blood specimens obtained from dogs were separately examined with native and Modified Knott techniques for the presence of circulating microfilariae while sera were examined with commercial test kit for the presence of circulating antigen. No circulating microfilaria was found in peripheral blood of examined dogs by native and modified Knott techniques whereas parasite antigens were determined in the sera of two male dogs one of which was aged between 3-6 years and the second was over 7 years. In conclusion, the prevalence of Dirofilaria immitis was determined as 2 % armongst dogs in the Gemlik area, Bursa (Occult infection).

Bu çalışma, Kayseri’nin tropikal theileriosis yönünden enzootik stabiliteye sahip Yeşilhisar ve İncesu yörelerinde Theileria annulata (T.annulata) ile doğal enfekte sığırlarda, enfeksiyon ile monosit nitrik oksit (NO) düzeyleri arasındaki ilişkinin belirlenmesi amacıyla yapılmış olup bu konuda Türkiye’de yapılan ilk çalışmadır. Theileriosis sezonunda, theileriosis şüpheli sığırlardan kan örnekleri alınmış ve kene taşıdığı belirlenen sığırlar üzerindeki keneler toplanmıştır. Negatif kontrol amacıyla Erciyes Üniversitesi Çiftliğindeki sağlıklı sığırlardan kan alınmıştır. T.annulata enfeksiyonu mikroskobik bakı (MB), İndirekt Floresan Antikor Testi (IFAT) ve moleküler metotlarla [Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR), Reverse Line Blotting (RLB)] araştırılmıştır. Toplanan kenelerin türleri teşhis edilmiş ve T.annulata enfeksiyonu yönünden incelenmişlerdir. Kan örneklerinden lökositler izole edilmiş ve NO düzeyinin göstergesi olan nitrit konsantrasyonu kolorimetrik olarak belirlenmiştir. T.annulata prevalansı, mikroskobik bakı ile %53,33, IFAT ile %60,00, RLB ile %50,00 olarak belirlenmiş, belirlenen prevalans değerleri arasında istatistiksel açıdan önemli fark olmadığı (p>0.05) saptanmıştır. Hayvanların %31,6’sında ergin kene bulunmuştur. Toplanan keneler, Hyalomma anatolicum anatolicum, H.a.excavatum, H.marginatum marginatum ve H.detritum detritum olarak teşhis edilmiş ve bunlardan sadece H.a.anatolicum kenelerinde %20 oranında T.annulata enfeksiyonu saptanmıştır. Nitrik oksit düzeyleri değerlendirildiğinde; akut tropikal theileriosis’li ve agoni halindeki hayvanlarda subklinik ve sağlıklı hayvanlara oranla istatistiki önemde yüksek (p, This study was performed to determine the monocyte nitric oxide (NO) levels in naturally infected cattle with Theileria annulata (T.annulata) in Yeşilhisar and İncesu districts of Kayseri where the disease is enzootic. This is the first field study investigate the NO levels in monocytes of cattle naturally infected with T. annulata in Turkey. Blood samples and ticks were collected from the animals which were suspected of theileriosis. Blood samples were also collected from the cattle on Erciyes University Farm as negative control. Theileria annulata infection was determined by microscopical examination (ME), Indirect Fluorescent Antibody Technique (IFAT) and molecular (PCR, RLB) examinations. Ticks collected from the animals were identified and examined for the T. annulata infection. Leukocytes were isolated by buffy-coat method and nitrite levels as indicator of NO were determined with a colorimetric method using Griess reagent. The prevalence of T. annulata was 53.33% by ME, 60.00% by IFAT and 50.00% by RLB, and no statistically significant difference was found among these methods (p>0.05). Adult ticks were observed in 31.6% of the animals included in the study, and they were identified as Hyalomma anatolicum anatolicum, H. m. marginatum, H. d. detritum, H. a. excavatum. Köpeklerden alınan heparinli kan örnekleri natif ve modifiye Knolt teknikleri ve serum örnekleri ise ticari ELlSA test kiti ile değerlendirildi. Perifer kanda mikrofiler tayin yöntemleri ile yapılan incelemede köpeklerde enfeksiyona rastfanmazken, serolojik muayenede iki köpekte paraziter antijenler saptandı. Dirofilaria immitis enfeksiyonu tespit edilen bu iki köpeğin biri 3-6 yaş diğeri ise ~7 yaş grubu içerisinde yer almakta olup, her ikisininCinsiyetinin de erkek olduğu dikkati çekmiştir. Sonuç olarak; Bursa ili Gemlik yöresinde köpekler arasında Dirofilaria immitis'inprevalansı % 2 olarak saptanmıştır (Okultenfenksiyon), The purpose of this study was to determinethe prevalenceof heartwormdisease (Dirofilaria immitis) infeetions indogs in the Gemlik area, Bursa. This study was carriedout betweenJune 2004 and September2004. A total of 100 dogs with variousages and sexes were included in the study.Of these, 65 were between0.5 and 2 year old, 25 were 3-6 year old and 10 were over 7 year old. Heparinized blood specimens obtained from dogs were separately examined with native and Modified Knolt techniques for the presence of circulating microfilariae while sera were examined with commercialtest kil for the presence of circulating antigen. No circulating microfilaria was found in peripheralblood of examined dogs by native and moditied Knott techniques whereas parasite antigenswere determinedin the sera of two male OOgs one ot which was aged between 3-6 years and the second was over 7 years. In conclusion, the prevalence of Dirofilaria immilis was determinedas 2 % amongstdogs in the Gemlik area, Bursa(Occultinfeetion).
