The human genome contains 61 codons encoding 20 amino acids. Synonymous codons representing a given amino acid are decoded by a set of transfer RNAs (tRNAs) called isoacceptors. We report the surprising observation that two isoacceptor tRNAs that decode synonymous codons become modulated in opposing directions during breast cancer progression. Specifically, tRNAIleUAU became upregulated, whereas tRNAIleGAU became repressed as breast cancer cells attained enhanced metastatic capacity. Functionally, tRNAIleUAU promoted and tRNAIleGAU suppressed metastatic colonization in mouse xenograft models. These tRNAs mediated opposing effects on codon-dependent translation of growth-promoting genes, consistent with genomic enrichment or depletion of their cognate codons in mitotic genes. Our findings uncover a specific isoacceptor tRNA pair that act in opposition, divergently impacting growth-regulating genes and a disease phenotype. Degeneracy of the genetic code can thus be biologically exploited by human cancer cells via tRNA isoacceptor shifts that causally facilitate the transition toward a growth-promoting state.

Intravenous lipid emulsion (ILE) has been widely used as an effective antidote in both veterinary and human medicine for the treatment of acute intoxications caused by drugs and pesticides with high lipid solubility. This study was conducted to investigate the effect of ILE co-administration on the kinetic dispositions of ivermectin (IVM) and carprofen (CRP) following intravenous bolus administration at subtoxic doses in rabbits. Twenty-four male New Zealand rabbits weighing 2.78 ± 0.2 kg were used in this study. Rabbits were divided into four groups (Group 1: IVM and Group 2: IVM + ILE or Group 3: CRP and Group 4: CRP + ILE), each group consisting of 6 animals. In the IVM study, Group 1 received IVM (0.6 mg/kg) alone while Group 2 received IVM (0.6 mg/kg) and ILE (2.5 ml/kg). In the CRP study, Group 3 received CRP (12 mg/kg) alone while Group 4 received CRP (12 mg/kg) and ILE (2.5 ml/kg). In both drug groups, ILE was administered 3 times as an i.v. bolus at the 10th min and repeated 4th and 8th h after the drug administration. Blood samples were collected from the auricular vein at various times after drug administration. The drug concentrations in plasma samples were determined by high-pressure liquid chromatography. Kinetic parameters were calculated using a non-compartmental model for both CRP and IVM. The C0 and area under the concentration–time curve from zero up to ∞ (AUC0–∞) values were significantly greater with ILE co-administration (2136 ng/ml and 360.84 ng.d/ml) compared to the IVM alone (1340.63 ng/ml and 206 ng.d/ml), respectively. Moreover, the volume of distribution (Vdss) and clearance (Cl) of IVM were reduced by approximately 42% and 46% with ILE co-administration compared to IVM alone resulting in a reduction of the distribution and slower elimination, respectively. Similar differences in C0, and Vdss values were also observed in CRP with ILE co-administration compared to CRP alone. ILE co-administration changed significantly the kinetic profile of both IVM and CRP in rabbits, supporting the lipid sink theory in which highly lipid-soluble compounds are absorbed into the lipid phase of plasma from peripheral organs such as the heart and brain affected by the acute toxicity of the compounds. El estudio tuvo como objetivo explorar la experiencia y significados de la Interrupción Legal del Embarazo (ILE) con medicamentos, en nueve mujeres jóvenes habitantes de la Ciudad de México y Zona Metropolitana. Desde una postura fenomenológica, se empleó una metodología interpretativa. Con la técnica de la entrevista en profundidad, se recuperaron las narraciones de las mujeres sobre el proceso del aborto. Los resultados indican que el método medicamentoso supone una alternativa aceptable y ventajosa para la resolución del aborto. Sin embargo, también puede generar situaciones imprácticas e incómodas, e incluso resultar en complicaciones cuando se realiza con misoprostol y sin mifepristona. El contexto de legalidad conlleva consecuencias prácticas y simbólicas en la experiencia de aborto, y el acompañamiento y apoyo de otras personas es muy relevante en cómo se vive y significa esta práctica.

Assessment is a key element in the learning process because it provides information regarding the strengths and the opportunity areas for both teachers and students. Thus, it is important to understand how assessment is conceived within the teacher's beliefs and their practices in the classroom. The following paper derives from a dissertation with a qualitative approach, which results come from the thematic narrative analysis of the information gathered through interviews with 12 English teachersin two higher education institutions in Aguascalientes, Mexico. As a conclusion, teachers' beliefs about assessment are distinguished as being 1) of dynamic nature; 2) put into a mediation process when challenged by the environment; and 3) partially related to what teachers end up doing in the classroom, resulting in adjustments that teachers perform on both, assessment beliefs and practices. This study employs the Yorùbá canonical maxim Ilé làbọ̀ simi oko and its antonymous equivalents as theoretical propensities and models for religion and material exchanges between the Ọ̀yó̩-Yorùbá, Sábę-Yorùbá, and Ifè̩-Ana Yorùbá communities. After centuries of independent existences, the Sábę and Ifè̩-Ana Yorùbá communities have continued in the practice of traditional Yorùbá religion and its attendant liturgical artefacts that they took with them from Ọ̀yó̩-Yorùbá, their original homeland. Using ethnography, history, and iconography, this research identifies practices such as Ifá, Sàngó, and egúngún,ìbejì , and respective paraphernalia such as ọpó̩n Ifá, agere Ifá, ìróké Ifá, osé Sàngó, ère egúngún , and ère ìbejì as artefacts shared between the three communities. The research avers that the deep-rooted Yorùbá cultural beliefs as encapsulated in ilé l'àbọ̀ simi oko and its antonymous maxims account for the people's thoughts about their homeland and consequent adherence to the homeland religions as memorials of and communion with the homeland. This essay explores how music becomes a form of activism and response to the gender violence crisis in Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria. Abstract Background Traditional management of non‐steroidal anti‐inflammatory drug (NSAID) intoxication includes gastrointestinal decontamination, intravenous administration of fluids (IVF), and gastroprotection. Intravenous administration of lipid emulsion (ILE) and therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE) are popular novel therapeutic strategies. Hypothesis Compare outcomes of dogs treated with IVF, ILE, and TPE for NSAID intoxications and evaluate outcome predictors for drug subgroups. Animals Four hundred thirty‐four dogs with NSAID intoxications (2015‐2020). Methods Multicenter retrospective study of ibuprofen, carprofen, and naproxen intoxication. An ordinal outcome was defined as mild gastrointestinal, moderate kidney, or signs of severe central nervous system disease. Results Signs of neurological disease were overrepresented and acute kidney injury underrepresented in the TPE group among dogs exposed to kidney‐ or CNS‐toxic doses (P = .05), though all TPE dogs with signs of neurological disease had evidence of neurotoxicity at presentation. Las creencias sobre el aprendizaje de un idioma influyen en las expectativas, opiniones y motivaciones de los estudiantes, facilitando o dificultando el proceso de adquisición de una lengua. Se presenta una investigación que describe y analiza las creencias sobre el aprendizaje del inglés de 261 estudiantes que cursan el sexto semestre la licenciatura en educación primaria o la licenciatura en educación preescolar, pertenecientes a tres escuelas normales del estado de Chihuahua, en México. El estudio se enmarca en el enfoque cuantitativo, y utiliza un diseño no experimental con alcance longitudinal de aproximación, a través del método de la encuesta y la aplicación del instrumento BALLI (Inventario de Creencias sobre el Aprendizaje de la Lengua) creado por Horwitz (1987). Los resultados muestran que el alumnado valora la práctica y repetición para adquirir la lengua extranjera, les parece importante la gramática y el vocabulario de la misma, y le otorgan mayor peso a la exposición a la lengua extranjera que a los aspectos culturales.

The tourist attractiveness of a Mediterranean island: an investigation based on the stakeholders’ perception in Sicily. The attractiveness of regions for firms, investments, tourists, students, workers, talented people, and other categories is a relevant issue for regional economic development in the age of globalization. Attractiveness for tourists is one of the most important dimensions as the economic relevance of tourism is continually on the rise. This is true for peripheral areas like islands, where attracting people and investments is even more difficult due to the geographical characteristics. This paper presents the case study of tourist attractiveness of Sicily, the largest island in the Mediterranean, based on the qualitative findings of a research on the stakeholders’ perception and point of view conducted through in-depth semi-structured interviews. Qualitative analyses of the text of the interviews are twofold: on the one hand we have conducted a thematic analysis, identifying, and analyzing themes and sub-themes which capture something important in relation to the overall research question. On the other hand, we analyzed document content as a lexical tool using Leximancer software, which analyzes meanings within texts by extracting key concepts and ideas. These analyses have been able to the bring out the key aspects and the key drivers that so far did not emerge clearly from the studies on Sicilian tourism. The tourist attractiveness of Sicily, for better or worse, cannot be disentangled from its physical nature and its unique and rich history. Thanks to its island status, and thanks to its valuable assets in terms of landscape, climate, art, and culture, it has a great potential in terms of tourist attractiveness. However, it suffers also the disadvantages associated with being an island: like the low level of accessibility and the high seasonality. Moreover, the tourist industry is poorly organized and not competitive compared to other Mediterranean islands, and the governance of the tourist sector is deficient. At the end, in an extremely peripheral region like Sicily where private entrepreneurs suffer from absolute competitive disadvantages, the role of the public institutions is fundamental in order to exploit successfully its local and unique assets, and to increase the level of attractiveness. Conclusions and Clinical Importance: NSAID toxicosis generally carries an excellent prognosis in dogs. Despite similar outcomes of lower incidence of AKI in the TPE group, and slightly lower maximal creatinine concentration in dogs treated with ILE vs IVF alone, ILE and TPE should be considered in the management of severe NSAID toxicosis. Objective: To describe the successful management of ivermectin‐induced status epilepticus in a guinea pig (Cavia porcellus) with intravenous lipid emulsion (ILE) therapy. Case Summary: A 5‐week‐old, female intact guinea pig was presented to an emergency hospital for status epilepticus 24 hours after oral administration of ivermectin. Approximately 48 hours after exposure, ILE therapy was administered. Within 12–16 hours after ILE therapy, seizures had stopped and the patient's mentation returned to normal. The definitive diagnosis was based on owner history, clinical presentation, and American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals poison control guidelines. New or Unique Information Provided: The use of intralipid therapy has been widely documented as a treatment option for numerous toxicities. Its efficacy in treatment for toxicities in both veterinary and human medicines has been well described in various case reports and studies. However, its use and success in small mammals have yet to be documented. In this case report, intralipid therapy is used to successfully treat a seizuring guinea pig that was administered a severely toxic dose of ivermectin. Background: To reveal the role of branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs) in the development and progression of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and the effect on the incidence of subsequent cardiovascular disease. Methods: A total of 1302 subjects in the cohort study of the Huai'an Diabetes Prevention Program were divided into two groups according to whether NAFLD was present at baseline. The group without NAFLD at baseline was only followed up, and the group with NAFLD at baseline received diet and exercise interventions. Anthropometric and biochemical examinations were performed at baseline and at the end of 4 years for all subjects. Serum BCAA (leucine, isoleucine, and valine) levels were measured by hydrophilic interaction chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. The associations of baseline serum BCAA levels with the risk for NAFLD, coronary heart disease (CHD), and cardiovascular events (CVEs) after 4 years were further evaluated. Results: (1) At baseline and after the 4-year follow-up, baseline serum leucine, valine, and total BCAAs in the NAFLD group were significantly higher than those in the non-NAFLD group (p < 0.05). (2) According to whether NAFLD was present at baseline and after follow-up, all subjects were divided into four groups, including the control group, new case group, improvement group, and unchanged group. There was no significant difference in baseline BCAAs levels between the new case group and the improvement group (p > 0.05). (3) Risk factors for the occurrence and development of NAFLD were analysed by a multiple logistic regression model according to whether NAFLD existed at baseline. Serum leucine (OR = 1.058, 95% CI 1.005–1.114, p = 0.033) and total BCAAs (OR = 1.023, 95% CI 1.001–1.046, p = 0.045) were independent risk factors for new-onset NAFLD. Serum valine (OR = 1.131, 95% CI 1.043–1.226, p = 0.003), and total BCAAs (OR = 1.040, 95% CI 1.003–1.078, p = 0.035) were independent risk factors showing that NAFLD could not be reversed. (4) The cross-table Chi-square test showed that the incidence of both CHD and CVEs was significantly highest in the new case group (p < 0.05). (5) After adjusting for confounding factors, baseline isoleucine, valine, and BCAA levels were independently associated with new-onset CHD in subjects with or without NAFLD at baseline (p < 0.05). Conclusions: High BCAA levels exacerbate the risk of CHD and CVEs by influencing the occurrence and progression of NAFLD. However, lifestyle interventions could reverse the risk of NAFLD, CHD and CVEs associated with BCAAs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The purpose of this reflection paper is to present a new framework to guide the process of investment in education infrastructure through participatory planning, and to consider its application to the development of innovative spaces. Financing education infrastructure provides an opportunity to innovate to support student learning, but for this to happen infrastructure and education investments need to be conceived from the beginning as a single, intertwined process. The Constructing Education framework is based on research evidence about the effects of educational environments and theoretical understanding of change. It draws on the issues identified in a series of in-depth reviews carried out in the cities of Espoo, Finland, the department of Seine-Saint Denis, France and Malmö, Sweden, to explore the links between construction and education during the investment process.

Objective: To describe the clinical signs and outcome following ivermectin overdose in a bearded dragon. This case also describes the novel use of intravenous lipid emulsion (ILE) as a rescue therapy in reptiles, as well as the use of aggressive gastrointestinal decontamination. Case Summary: A 4‐year‐old female intact bearded dragon (Pogona vitticeps) (0.6 kg) was admitted to the ICU at a specialty hospital following accidental overdose of 40 mg (66.7 mg/kg) of ivermectin enterally. The patient was physically inverted to allow passive reflux of the medication, then sedated for gastric lavage. A 20% ILE was administered intravenously due to the high risk for fatality. Additional treatments included 2 doses of activated charcoal, as well as SC fluids, enteral nutrition, and sucralfate. The patient was profoundly sedate until day 4 when mild improvements in mentation were noted. The patient started ambulating on its own on day 6 and was discharged from the hospital on day 13. The patient was alive 720 days postdischarge. New or Unique Information Provided: This is the first case report describing the events following ivermectin overdose and the use of ILE therapy and activated charcoal in a bearded dragon. Este artículo presenta el análisis estadístico de los errores de escritura en un corpus de estudiantes de inglés como lengua extranjera (ILE) a nivel universitario. Se busca establecer si existe relación entre los principales errores de las composiciones escritas y dos factores sociodemográficos: género y estrato. Los participantes fueron clasificados en los niveles B1 y B2 según el Marco Común Europeo de Referencia (MCER) El corpus se compiló siguiendo los procedimientos de la Lingüística de Corpus Computacional (LCC) y los errores se analizaron conforme al método de análisis de errores y codificados de acuerdo con el sistema de anotación de errores de la Universidad de Lovaina versión 1.2. Según los hallazgos, los errores más prevalentes en hombres y mujeres pertenecen a las categorías Forma, Deletreado (FS), Artículo Gramatical (GA) y Léxico (LS). De igual forma, de acuerdo con los resultados el error con más prevalencia en el estrato 1 y 2 del nivel B2 es Artículo Gramatical (GA). En este mismo nivel, en los estratos 3, 4, 5 y 6 el error con más prevalencia es Léxico (LS). Se ofrece una vista general de los resultados que forman parte de una tesis doctoral.

La presente investigación acción se realizó ante la carencia de habilidades digitales y el bajo desempeño en el inglés como lengua extranjera de los estudiantes de décimo y undécimo grado de una institución oficial en Bucaramanga, Colombia. El objetivo fue analizar la percepción de los estudiantes de Educación Media sobre la manera en que la creación en el aula de los Objetos Virtuales de Aprendizaje (OVA) desarrolla sus competencias en las Tecnologías de la Información y la Comunicación (TIC) y su aprendizaje del inglés. Los instrumentos validados para la recolección de los datos fueron la observación directa y las entrevistas semi- estructuradas. Se identificaron los OVA creados y se analizaron las actitudes y creencias de los estudiantes sobre el aprendizaje del inglés. Igualmente, se describieron las habilidades digitales desarrolladas en el aula y que les permitieron diseñar e implementar los OVA. Por último, se valoró la aceptación de estos entre los estudiantes de grados inferiores quienes interactuaron con las actividades. El análisis de los resultados comprobó que la creación de los OVA desarrolla competencias TIC en los estudiantes al motivar el aprendizaje del inglés con una experiencia innovadora, lo cual implica un rediseño curricular y capacitación docente para incentivar su uso.

Le roman L’Iguana (1965) d’Anna Maria Ortese est un récit de voyage au-delà des frontières de la réalité vers une destination qui est à la fois utopie et topos littéraire : l’insula non reperta d’Ocaña. La rencontre du protagoniste, un trentenaire à l’âme sensible et à l’esprit enfantin, issu d’une riche famille milanaise, avec le monstre du titre, déclenche une double réflexion, que notre article vise à éclairer : d’une part sur l’éloignement de l’humanité, entraînée par le capitalisme triomphant, de l’utopie qu’elle n’a de cesse de rêver ; d’autre part, sur le statut de l’Iguane, personnage chimérique, non moins monstrueux que désirable. Déchue (le mot est féminin en italien) d’une condition supérieure, elle révèle à son aspirant sauveur que sa propre misère est celle de la société tout entière, voire de l’existence elle-même, lui permettant ainsi d’entrevoir la possibilité d’une utopie sur terre.
