Stars experience contraction and/or expansion phases at different stages of their existence. Seismic measurements of internal rotation have shown the need to improve the physical description of transport processes of angular momentum and chemical elements during these rapid phases of evolution. In addition, spectropolarimetric surveys suggest a strong-fields/weak-fields dichotomy among the intermediate-mass stars. Understanding how these fields interact with the differential rotation forced by the contraction could help us to address the origin of the magnetism of these stars. This thesis aims at making progress on the issue of the angular momentum transport induced by the contraction of a magnetised, or non-magnetised, stellar radiative zone. For this purpose, we perform axisymmetric (magneto)hydrodynamical simulations of a stably stratified rotating spherical layer undergoing contraction, having or not, a large-scale magnetic field. Contraction is modelled by a steady radial mass flux and simulations are carried out in the Boussinesq and anelastic approximations. An extensive parametric study is conducted to cover the different regimes of rotation, contraction, stable stratification and magnetic field that are appropriate for stars. In the absence of magnetic field, we determine two relevant regimes: the Eddington-Sweet regime in which the meridional circulation dominates the angular momentum transport, and the viscous regime where the viscosity plays a leading role. The Eddington-Sweet regime, relevant for pre-main sequence stars and outside the degenerate core of subgiants, naturally results in a differential rotation, both in latitude and radius. The viscous regime, relevant in the degenerate core of subgiants, leads to a spherically symmetric rotation profile. In both cases, we derive a scaling law which enables us to estimate the amplitude of the differential rotation. When a magnetic field is applied, the flow is characterised by the presence of two magnetically decoupled regions. In one of them, magnetic tension imposes solid-body rotation while in the other, called the dead zone, the Lorentz force becomes negligible and a differential rotation exists. In some cases, we show that the latitudinal shear built in the dead zones triggers a powerful axisymmetric instability able to destroy the large-scale structure of the magnetic field and to result in a flow reconfiguration. We propose that this could potentially explain the rotational evolution of subgiants as well as the observed dichotomy between strong-fields/weak-fields of intermediate-mass stars.; Les étoiles expérimentent des phases de contraction et/ou d'expansion à différentes étapes de leur existence. Les mesures sismiques de la rotation interne ont montré la nécessité d'améliorer la description physique des processus de transport du moment cinétique et des éléments chimiques durant ces phases d'évolution rapide. Par ailleurs, les relevés spectropolarimétriques indiquent une dichotomie champs forts/champs faibles parmi les étoiles de masse intermédiaire. Comprendre comment ces champs interagissent avec la rotation différentielle forcée par la contraction peut nous aider à élucider l'origine du magnétisme de ces étoiles. L'objectif de cette thèse est de progresser sur la question du transport du moment cinétique induit par la contraction d'une zone radiative stellaire magnétisée, ou non. À cette fin, nous réalisons des simulations axisymétriques (magnéto)hydrodynamiques d'une couche sphérique d'un fluide stablement stratifié en rotation et en contraction, possédant, ou non, un champ magnétique à grande échelle. La contraction est modélisée par un flux de masse radial stationnaire et les simulations sont effectuées dans les approximations de Boussinesq et anélastique. Une étude paramétrique étendue est menée afin de couvrir les différents régimes de rotation, contraction, stratification stable et champ magnétique, appropriés dans les étoiles considérées. En l'absence de champ magnétique, nous déterminons deux régimes pertinents : le régime d'Eddington-Sweet, dans lequel la circulation méridienne domine le transport de moment cinétique, et le régime visqueux où la viscosité joue un rôle prépondérant. Le régime d'Eddington-Sweet, pertinent pour les étoiles de la pré-séquence principale et dans les sous-géantes en dehors de leur cœur dégénéré, aboutit naturellement à une rotation différentielle à la fois en rayon et en latitude. Le régime visqueux, correspondant au cœur dégénéré des sous-géantes, conduit quant à lui à un profil de rotation à symétrie sphérique. Dans les deux cas, nous obtenons une loi d'échelle qui permet d'estimer l'amplitude de la rotation différentielle. Lorsqu'un champ magnétique est imposé, l'écoulement est caractérisé par deux régions magnétiquement découplées. Dans l'une d'elles la tension magnétique impose une rotation solide alors que dans l'autre, que l'on appelle la zone morte, la force de Lorentz devient passive et une rotation différentielle existe. Dans certains cas, nous montrons que le cisaillement en latitude présent dans les zones mortes déclenche une puissante instabilité axisymétrique capable de détruire la structure à grande échelle du champ magnétique et d'entraîner une reconfiguration de l'écoulement. Nous proposons que ceci puisse potentiellement expliquer l'évolution rotationnelle des sous-géantes ainsi que la dichotomie observée entre champ forts/champ faibles des étoiles de masse intermédiaire.

On relit sous un prisme égyptologique l’Hymne Orphique à la Lune (Selēnē) [Quandt 41973: 9], en présen­tant ses traits astronomiques et cosmographiques et en les comparant à quelques références à la Lune trou­vées dans des sources épigraphiques diverses (TP, TS, LdM, autres monuments, & c.) avec des conclusions ré­capitulati­ves. Comme la datation des idées astronomiques contenues dans les Hymnes Orphiques coïncide avec le Nou­vel Empire et à cause de la grande importance des connaissances astronomiques des Orphiques, on ren­contre beaucoup de similitudes en métaphores cosmographiques —à la fois dans les hymnes et dans les textes égyptiens—qui décrivent les mouvements et les caractéristiques divers de brillance de la Lune. Les affirma­tions liées aux données objectives de l’Archéoastronomie n’ont ni pour finalité ni pour conséquence de con­tredire les données philologiques, littéraires et historiques exposées dans des études récentes, mais seulement de suggérer que la longue tradition au terme de laquelle ils ont reçu leur contenu et leur forme actuellement connus se caractérise par de très lointaines origines dans le temps, comme c’est également le cas avec les idées astronomiques des TP. En plus, dans les textes les plus anciens des Égyptiens il y a des allégories cosmiques qui dessinent les épiphanies lunaires décrivant le mouvement particulier de la Lune (Passeur Céleste) sur l’Écliptique, ainsi que les périodicités de ses phases qui sont liées aux fêtes lunaires mensuel­les et aux offrandes de nourriture concomitantes à la fois pour les décédées et les divinités de l’au-delà.

Rotation has important consequences for stellar internal structure and evolution. The centrifugal force deforms the star and balances gravity, mimicking a lower mass star. Most importantly, meridional circulations and rotation-induced turbulence mixes chemical elements, extending the stellar lifetime and affecting age determinations, one of the most important problems in astrophysics. Lastly, the rotation-convection interaction generates magnetic fields. The associated activity has a determining influence on the survival of planetary atmospheres. Asteroseismic data from the space missions CoRoT and Kepler have shown that current 1D models of angular momentum transport in radiative zones (turbulent viscosity and meridional circulation) are not satisfactory. Other mechanisms must be active, such as internal gravity waves, magnetic fields, etc. All models proposed for these mechanisms are incomplete and must, in particular, account for 2D effects. The 1D description of rotation is usually justified by the fact that turbulence is much stronger horizontally than vertically in radiative zones, suppressing variations of angular velocity. This assumption may not be verified at near the rotation axis. Moreover, because internal gravity waves are generated at the base of convective envelopes, the Doppler shift experienced by these waves when they enter the radiative zone should depend on latitude. These waves are further filtered in the transition zone between the convective and radiative zones, a zone that has a strong differential rotation. This PhD is devoted to the implementation in a stellar evolution code of a simplified treatment of transport of angular momentum in 2D. This treatment is based on a deformation method that enables the computation of the 2D structure of the star, as well as the rotation-induced perturbations of the various fields. The transport of angular momentum is then treated in 2D, and will allow the further study of extra mechanisms of transport., La rotation a d'importantes conséquences sur la structure interne des étoiles et leur évolution. La force centrifuge déforme l'étoile et s'oppose à la gravité, mimant une étoile de plus faible masse. Plus important encore, la circulation méridienne et la turbulence induites par la rotation mélangent les éléments chimiques, prolongeant la vie de l'étoile et altérant la détermination de son âge, un problème majeur en astrophysique. Enfin, l'interaction rotation-convection génère des champs magnétiques. L'activité associée a une influence décisive sur la survie des atmosphères planétaires. Les données astérosismiques des missions spatiales CoRoT et Kepler ont montré que les modèles 1D actuels de transport du moment cinétique dans les zones radiatives (viscosité turbulente et circulation méridienne) ne sont pas satisfaisants. D'autres mécanismes doivent être actifs: les ondes internes de gravité, les champs magnétiques, etc. Tous les modèles les décrivant sont actuellement incomplets et doivent en particulier tenir compte des effets 2D. La description 1D de la rotation est généralement justifiée par le fait que, dans les zones radiatives, la turbulence est beaucoup plus forte horizontalement que verticalement, supprimant les variations latitudinales de vitesse angulaire. Cette hypothèse pourrait être invalide près de l'axe de rotation. De plus, les ondes internes de gravité étant générées à la base des enveloppes convectives, le décalage Doppler qu'elles subissent en entrant dans la zone radiative dépend de la latitude. Elles sont ensuite filtrées dans la zone de transition entre les régions convective et radiative, présentant une forte rotation différentielle. Cette thèse est dédiée à l'implémentation dans un code d'évolution stellaire d'un traitement simplifié du transport du moment cinétique en 2D. Ce traitement est basé sur une méthode de déformation permettant de calculer la structure 2D de l'étoile, ainsi que les perturbations des différents champs induites par la rotation. Le transport du moment cinétique est ensuite traité en 2D, et permettra d'étudier plus en détail d'autres mécanismes de transport.

Surface Brightness-Color Relations (SBCRs) are a key tool for characterizing stars and calibrating distance scales in the Universe. These relations link the stellar flux (integrated per solid angle unit) to its color (the difference between the magnitudes calculated in two distinct photometric bands). Their ease of use is a major advantage in modern astronomy. Although widely used for decades, there are, however, differences in the calibration according to the spectral type and the luminosity class of stars. My thesis aims to calibrate precise SBCRs for early- and late-type stars in order to estimate the stellar angular diameter that allows to characterize exoplanets host stars and calibrate extragalactic distances using detached eclipsing binaries in neighboring galaxies such as the Magellanic clouds, M31 or M33.As a first step, I made use of a catalog that lists all the interferometric measurements made so far, namely the JMDC, in order to calibrate an accurate SBCR for late-type stars. The interest of such calibration relates to the characterization of exoplanets host stars, since these relations are intended to be used within the framework of the PLATO space mission. For that purpose, I have developed selection criteria based on the stellar activity, the photometry of stars but also on the quality of the interferometric measurements in order to avoid any bias in the calibration of the relation. In this work, I show a dependence of SBCRs on the spectral type and the luminosity class of stars, and develop four relations allowing to estimate the angular diameter of stars with a precision ranging between 1% and 2%. I also carry out tests proving the consistency of such selection criteria for the calibration of these relations.In order to cover a large sample of stars with different spectral types, I devoted two years of my thesis to the observation of early-type stars using the VEGA instrument installed at the CHARA array, at Mount Wilson, in the United States. In the same way as for late-type stars, I used selection criteria to properly construct my sample of 18 stars to observe. I measured the angular diameter of these stars with an accuracy between 0.8% and 5%, and calibrated a SBCR for early-type stars that allows to estimate their angular diameter with a precision of 2.4%, namely three times more precise than the relations calibrated so far for this type of stars. I also made a detailed study on the infrared photometry of stars. I used conversion relations between K and Ks photometries in order to transform the infrared photometries of stars into an uniform sample. I show that the use of these relations for early-type stars faces some limits, especially for stars with V – K < - 0.3 mag.A part of my thesis has finally been devoted to the development of so-called "theoretical" SBCRs using MARCS atmosphere models, in order to study the physics of SBCRs, and to understand their dependencies and the differences observed in their calibration. I find a dependence of SBCRs on the luminosity class and the spectral type of stars, but also on the metallicity. I show an average agreement of about 3% with my empirical SBCRs, and I suggest solutions to improve this consistency.The SPICA 6-telescope instrument will soon make it possible to carry out interferometric observations of a very large number of stars, and therefore to refine the calibration of SBCRs and access a more precise study of fundamental parameters of stars., Les relations brillance de surface-couleur (SBCRs, en anglais) sont un outil clé pour la caractérisation des étoiles et l'étalonnage des distances dans l'Univers. La SBCR est une relation entre le flux de l'étoile, intégré par unité d'angle solide, et sa couleur, c'est-à-dire la différence entre les magnitudes calculées dans deux bandes photométriques distinctes. Leur facilité d'utilisation représente un atout majeur au sein de l'astronomie moderne. Bien que largement utilisées depuis des décennies, on constate cependant des incohérences selon le type spectral et la classe de luminosité des étoiles. Ma thèse a pour objectif d'étalonner des SBCRs précises pour les étoiles précoces (types spectraux O, B et A) et tardives (types spectraux plus tardifs que F) dans le but d'estimer le diamètre angulaire des étoiles, qui serviront à la caractérisation des étoiles hôtes d'exoplanètes mais aussi pour la détermination de distance des binaires à éclipses extragalactiques.En premier lieu, j'ai utilisé le catalogue répertoriant toutes les mesures interférométriques réalisées jusqu'à maintenant, le Jean-Marie Mariotti Center Measured stellar Diameters Catalog (JMDC), afin de développer des SBCRs précises pour les étoiles tardives. Ces relations visent à préparer la mission spatiale PLAnetary Transits and Oscillations of Stars (PLATO). Pour ce faire, j'ai élaboré des critères de sélection basés sur l'activité stellaire (variabilité, multiplicité, rotation, etc.), la photométrie des étoiles mais également sur la qualité des mesures afin d'éviter le maximum de biais éventuels sur l'étalonnage de la relation. J'ai développé quatre relations permettant d'estimer le diamètre angulaire des étoiles tardives entre 1% et 2% de précision, et j'ai montré une dépendance des SBCRs en fonction du type spectral et de la classe de luminosité des étoiles.J'ai consacré deux années de ma thèse à l'observation d'étoiles de types précoces à l'aide de l'instrument "Visible spEctroGraph and polArimeter" (VEGA) installé au centre d'observation "Center for High Angular Resolution Astronomy" (CHARA), au Mont Wilson, aux États-Unis. De la même manière que pour les étoiles tardives, j'ai eu recours à des critères de sélection pour finalement construire mon échantillon de 18 étoiles à observer. J'ai mesuré le diamètre angulaire de ces étoiles avec une précision comprise entre 0.8% et 5%, et j'ai développé une SBCR permettant d'estimer leur diamètre angulaire avec une précision de 2.4%, à condition que la relation soit appliquée à des étoiles dépourvues d'activité stellaire. J'ai également réalisé une étude détaillée sur la photométrie infrarouge des étoiles. J'ai utilisé des relations de conversion entre les photométries Johnson-K et 2MASS-Ks afin de transformer les photométries infrarouges des étoiles en un échantillon uniforme. Je montre que l'utilisation de ces relations pour ce type d'étoiles présente des limites, notamment pour les étoiles avec des couleurs V – K < - 0.3 mag.Une partie de ma thèse a finalement eu pour objectif de développer des SBCRs dites "théoriques" à l'aide de modèles d'atmosphères MARCS, afin de comprendre physiquement les différences observées entre les SBCRs correspondant à différentes classes d'objets. Je trouve une différence d'environ 0.025 mag entre la brillance de surface des étoiles géantes (log g = 3) et naines (log g = 4.5) pour une couleur V – K autour de 4 mag. Je trouve également des différences dans les SBCRs selon la métallicité des étoiles, et montre un accord moyen d'environ 3% avec mes relations empiriques. L'instrument 6-télescopes SPICA permettra prochainement de réaliser des observations interférométriques d'un très grand nombre d'étoiles, et donc d'affiner l'étalonnage des SBCRs, mais aussi d'accéder à une étude plus précise des paramètres fondamentaux des étoiles.

The interstellar medium is composed by approximately 1% of dust in terms of mass. Surprisingly, this tiny amount of dust already plays a very important role in stellar formation. The dynamics of dust grains may differ from that of the gas particles, leading to local variations in concentration. However, very few studies have focused on the gas and dust differential dynamics during star formation. My thesis aims to fill this gap and is divided into four parts. In the first part, I develop a module dealing efficiently with dust dynamics that can simultaneously include multiple grain species intended to the multidimensional adaptive grid code RAMSES (Teyssier 2002). I then carefully test my module by comparing my results with known analytical solutions. I also show that my implementation is robust, fast and accurate. Then I perform star formation simulations that consider multiple dust species. This study establishes that a decoupling between the dust and the gas appears for grains of sizes larger or equivalent to a hundred micrometers. I also find that this decoupling depends strongly on the initial properties of the prestellar core. Then, I develop an analytical formalism, similar to the non-ideal magnetohydrodynamics but that includes the dynamics of charged grains. This formalism allows to highlight seven different coupling regimes between the grains, the magnetic field and the gas as a function of the grain size, its charge and its environment. In parallel, I investigate the dynamics of dust in the weakly ionized zones of protoplanetary disks in order to study the formation of chondrules. Chondrules are dust grains found in most meteorites and are key to understand the formation of disks and planets., Le milieu interstellaire se compose, en masse, d'environ 1% de poussière. Paradoxalement,malgré sa faible concentration, celle-ci un rôle très important dans la formation stellaire. La dynamique des grains de poussière peut différer de celle du gaz, entrainant des variations locales de concentration. Peu de travaux ont pourtant été consacrés à l'étude de cette dynamique différentielle lors de la formation stellaire. Ma thèse s'inscrit dans l'objectif de pallier ce manque et se décompose en quatre parties.Dans la première partie, je développe un module traitant efficacement la dynamique des poussières et pouvant simultanément inclure plusieurs espèces de grains pour le code multidimensionnel sur grille adaptative RAMSES (Teyssier 2002). Je teste ensuite mon module avec soin en comparant mes résultats à des solutions analytiques. Je montre par ailleurs que mon implémentation est robuste, précise et rapide.Par la suite j'effectue des simulations de formation d'étoiles incluant plusieurs espèces de poussières. Grâce à cette étude, j'établis qu'un découplage entre les grains et le gaz apparaît pour les grains d'une taille supérieure ou équivalente à la centaine de micromètres. Je trouve également que ce découplage dépend fortement des propriétés initiales du coeur préstellaire.Ensuite, je développe un formalisme analytique, similaire à la magnétohydrodynamique non idéale, mais incluant en plus la dynamique des grains chargés. Ce formalisme me permet de mettre en évidence sept différents régimes de couplage entre les grains, le champ magnétique et le gaz, selon la taille des grains, leur charge et leur environnement.En parallèle, j'étudie la dynamique des poussières dans les zones faiblement ionisées des disques protoplanétaires afin d'étudier la formation des chondrules. Ce sont des grains de poussière retrouvés dans la majorité des météorites et qui sont des éléments clés pour la compréhension de la formation des disques et des planètes.

Seismic data obtained with the space photometric CoRoT and Kepler instruments have led to a unprecendently precise characterization -- in terms of masses and ages -- of a large sample of post main sequence stars (low mass subgiant and red giants). The high quality of the collected seismic data and the subsequent theoretical work for interpreting them brought up a series of issues which revealed that our knowledge of the internal properties of red giant stars remains quite limited. Two such important issues are discussed here, namely mixing beyond the convective core of helium burning red giant stars and evolution of internal angular momentum for post main sequence stars. This includes how they were diagnosed and what are the resulting improvements in our understanding regarding these issues (or rather how far we are from a proper understanding and realistic modelling of the structure and evolution of post main sequence stars)., 32 pages, 28 figures

Accreting binary systems are stellar couples in which a compact object (white dwarf, neutron star, black hole) feeds on a regular star. This accretion phase in the life of a binary shows characteristic high-energy emission, and can cause the formation of relativistic jets as well as a transient behavior which goes from violent outbursts to quiescent periods. These objects contribute significantly to the X-ray and gamma radiation in the universe, and since 2015 we know they are the progenitors of spectacular collisions between compact objects, which at the end of their lives radiate gravitationnal waves. Because more than half of the stars in our Galaxy spend at least a part of their lives within a binary, studying these systems is key to better understand stellar evolution in general. This thesis starts from an intial questioning about the origin of binary systems, of their diversity and the different evolutionnary paths they take, as well as the intricacy of their local environment. The tools we use to adress these topics are mainly observation-oriented. In particular, we will try to make full use of the multi-wavelength properties of binaries in the studies we present. The first part is a general introduction which covers the basics of stellar evolution, the processes taking place within binary systems, and also introduces practical aspects about observations such as the messengers and the observables that are associated. The second part is about a project of census concerning accreting binaries. We correlate previous catalogues with the Centre de Données Astronomiques de Starsbourg to update some of the information about the binaries, and also try to find counterparts of high-mass X-ray binaries (HMXB) among the detections of the Gaia satellite. This census will be used in a project studying the natal kick of HMXBs and will also be the starting point to look for progenitors of compact binaries which will be detected by the gravitationnal satellite LISA. The third part aims to actively participate in the census of X-ray binaries by determining the nature of unidentified INTEGRAL sources (IGR). We present the analysis of spectrophotometric data in near-infrared acquired with VLT/ISAAC on 14 IGR sources. Among them, we identified 9 new accreting binaries and 5 active galactic nuclei. The fourth part focuses on a particular system. IGR J16318-4848 is an obscured supergiant B[e] high-mass X-ray binary, and posesses a complex environment which we aim to characterize. We report on spectroscopic acquisitions with VLT/X-Shooter which allow us to probe the dynamics of the stellar wind from the supergiant star, the orbital motion of the dusty circumbinary disk as well as its own metal-rich wind. By modeling the broadband spectral energy distribution down to the far-infrared (Spitzer, Herschel), we determine the temperature of the emitting media as well as their absolute scales. The fifth part is a study on a transient source, the microquasar Swift J1745-26, made of a low-mass star orbiting a black hole. It was detected in X-rays down to radio waves late 2012 during outburst, and was observed again five months later during its decay. We use photometric data from VLT/FORS2, ISAAC in optical and near-infrared as well as soft and hard X-ray measurements (Swift/BAT, XRT) in order to compare the broadband spectral energy distributions at these two epochs. The variations in luminosity can be especially explained by a change in the internal radius of an accretion disk around the black hole. We conclude this manuscript by doing a summary of the results we brought on these topics, and also do a short review of the future prospects in the field of accreting binaries.; Les systèmes binaires accrétants sont des couples stellaires composés d'un objet compact (naine blanche, étoile à neutrons, trou noir) et d'une étoile qui s'échangent de la matière. Cette phase d'accrétion est caractérisée par l'émission de rayonnements énergétiques, et peut induire l'accélération de matière à des vitesses relativistes dans des jets, ainsi qu'une variabilité qui oscille entre sursauts et périodes de quiescence. Ces objets sont des contributeurs majeurs au rayonnement X et gamma dans l'univers, et on sait depuis 2015 qu'ils sont aussi les progéniteurs de collisions entre deux objets compacts, donnant naissance à une émission d'ondes gravitationnelles. Parce que plus de la moitié des étoiles de notre galaxie passent au moins une partie de leur vie en couple, l'étude des systèmes binaires est une des clés qui permettront de mieux comprendre l'évolution stellaire en général. On propose dans cette thèse de partir sur un questionnement général sur l'origine des systèmes binaires, leur diversité et des différents chemins évolutifs qu'ils empruntent, ainsi que sur la complexité de leur environnement local. Nos outils pour traiter ces thématiques seront principalement observationnels ; on tentera notamment d'exploiter les propriétés multi-longueur d'onde des binaires accrétantes. La première partie est une introduction qui permet d'apporter quelques bases sur l'évolution stellaire, les processus caractéristiques des systèmes binaires, et qui présente quelques aspects observationnels pratiques en rappelant les messagers et les observables qu'on peut en extraire. La 2ème partie traite d'un projet inital de recensement des binaires accrétantes connues. On corrèle des catalogues antérieurs avec le Centre de Données Astronomiques de Strasbourg pour mettre à jour certaines informations, et on tente de trouver les contreparties de binaires X de grande masse (HMXB) parmis les détections du satellite Gaia. Cette ébauche de catalogue servira dans un projet d'étude du kick natal des HMXBs et constituera une base pour y chercher les progéniteurs de couples compacts détectables par le satellite gravitationnel LISA. La 3ème partie vise à participer activement au recensement de binaires X en déterminant la nature de sources INTEGRAL (IGR). On présente une analyse de données spectrophotométriques en infrarouge proche acquises avec l'instrument VLT/ISAAC sur 14 sources IGR. Parmis celles-ci, on identifie 9 nouvelles binaires accrétantes et 5 noyaux actifs de galaxie. La 4ème partie se focalise sur un système, IGR J16318-4848, qui est une binaire supergéante obscurcie de type B[e], et qui présente un environnement complexe dont on cherche à déterminer la structure. On rend compte d'acquisitions spectroscopiques VLT/X-Shooter qui nous permettent de sonder la dynamique du vent stellaire de l'étoile supergéante, le mouvement orbital d'un disque circumbinaire de poussières ainsi que celle de sont propre vent riche en éléments lourds. En modélisant la distribution spectral d'énergie large bande jusqu'aux infrarouges lointains (Spitzer, Herschel), on détermine notamment les températures des millieux émetteurs ainsi que leur dimensions absolues. La 5ème partie porte sur l'étude d'une source transitoire, Swift J1745-26, composée d'un trou noir et d'une étoile de faible masse. Observée des X à la radio après être entrée en sursaut fin 2012, elle est détectée cinq mois plus tard pendant une phase de décroissance. Nous utilisons des données photométriques VLT/FORS2, ISAAC de l'optique à l'infrarouge ainsi que des mesures en X (Swift/BAT, XRT) afin de comparer les distributions spectrales d'énergie à deux époques différentes. On peut notamment expliquer les variations de luminosité par un changement du rayon interne du disque d'accrétion, qui s'organise autour du trou noir central. On termine ce manuscrit par un résumé des résulats obtenus ainsi qu'un bref aperçu des perspectives d'avenir dans le domaine des binaires accrétantes.

More than 340 non-eclipsing binaries of A-F stars as primaries at intermediate periods (100-1000 d) were newly found by uninterrupted photometry with ultra high-precision taken over 4 yr by Kepler space mission via the phase modulation of pulsating stars, and their orbital parameters, which were difficult to measure with conventional methods and were very incomplete, were then determined. This asteroseismic finding of binaries tripled the number of intermediate-mass binaries with full orbital solutions, and opened a new window to statistics of binaries. We outline the methods of finding non-eclipsing binaries by photometry and of deriving the orbital parameters, and demonstrate their validation. The origin and evolution of neutron-capture elements in our Galaxy is poorly understood. In this work, we have attempted to understand the Galactic s-process nucleosynthesis using barium stars as probes. We have performed high resolution spectroscopic analysis for three barium stars HD 36650, HD 207585 and HD 219116. The analysis of HD 219116 is based on HCT/HESP data at a resolution of 60,000 covering a wavelength region 3530-9970 {\rm \AA}. For HD 36650, we have used the FEROS spectrum at a resolution of 48,000 covering the wavelength region 3520-9200 {\rm \AA}. For HD 207585, the spectrum from VLT/UVES at a resolution of 48,000 covering the wavelength region 3290-6650 {\rm \AA} is used. Our analysis clearly shows that the surface chemical composition of these barium stars are enriched by s-process nucleosynthesis products coming from their former companion low-mass AGB stars. A discussion on the distribution of abundance ratios based on the existing nucleosynthesis theories is presented.

Indian Institute of Astrophysics, Koramangala 2nd Block, Bengaluru, India, 560034 The Himalayan Chandra Telescope (HCT), of the Indian Astronomical Observatory (IAO), is currently one of the most heavily subscribed telescopes in India. The telescope has been in regular use for scientific observations by national as well as international astronomical communities since May 2003. Over the past fifteen years, various observational programs have been carried out using HCT contributing to our understanding of many different aspects of stellar and Galactic astronomy. Here, a glimpse of spectroscopic studies made using HCT is provided with an aim to expand potential collaboration in the area of stellar and Galactic studies using these observing facilities. Some results from our long-term observing program on a search for CH stars from low resolution spectroscopy of high Galactic latitude objects that has given us the potential to discover objects of rare types are discussed.

National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand, Chiang Mai 50180, ThailandWe present the first results of a spectroscopic survey of southern and equatorial Algol-type eclipsing binary systems with mass-accreting pulsating components (oEA stars) using the 2.4-m Thai National Telescope (TNT) and the 10-m South African Large Telescope (SALT). The survey aims to find orbital and binary parameters and to detect the high-degree non-radial pulsations (NRPs). We report the detection of high-degree NRPs in AS Eri, WY Cet, VY Hya, GQ TrA, BD Vir, and UW Vir.

We present results obtained from the studies of magnetic activities on four solar-type stars (F-type star KIC 6791060, K-type star LO Peg, and two M-type planet-hosting stars K2-33 and EPIC 211901114) by using optical observations from several ground- and space-based telescopes. In this study, we investigate magnetic activities such as spot-topographic evolution and flaring events in these stars. We compare the results obtained from this study with that of the Sun. In the surface temperature maps, one active longitude has been detected in KIC 6791060, whereas in each of the other three cases two active longitudes are seen. The spottedness was found to vary in the range of 0.07--0.44%, 9--26%, 3.6--4.2%, and 4.5--5.3% for KIC 6791060, LO Peg, K2-33, and EPIC 211901114, respectively. Several flaring events have been identified in each star. An increasing trend in flaring frequency per stellar rotation has been found in the stars with a change in spectral type from F to M. These findings indicate the increase in magnetic activities with the spectral type of stars. We present results from a comparative study of light curves of Cepheid and RR Lyrae stars in the Galaxy and the Magellanic Clouds with their theoretical models generated from the stellar pulsation codes. Fourier decomposition method is used to analyse the theoretical and the observed light curves at multiple wavelengths. In case of RR Lyrae stars, the amplitude and Fourier parameters from the models are consistent with observations in most period bins except for low metal-abundances ($Z, 8 pages, 6 figures. We present preliminary results obtained from optical (B, V, R, and I) linear polarimetric observations of the O+O massive binary DH Cep. The observations were made on six nights in 2017 with the Aries IMaging POLarimeter (AIMPOL) mounted at the back of the 1.04-m Sampurnanand Telescope of ARIES. The average intrinsic linear polarization in each of the B, V, R, and I photometric bands is found to be less than 1%. The degree of polarization as well as the polarization angle appear to be orbital phase dependent. The significant polarization variability noticed towards shorter wavelengths (i.e. B and V bands) is indicative of the asymmetric circumstellar envelope.

We present the analysis of time-series of photoelectric data of a Bp star and four new Ap stars observed photoelectrically under the Nainital-Cape survey programme. The project was started about two decades ago, aiming to search for new rapidly oscillating Ap stars. The frequency analysis of the time-series of these stars obtained on multiple nights did not reveal any pulsational variability. In addition to this, we have performed the analysis of time-series differential CCD photometry of the two pulsating Am stars HD13038 and HD13079, where we find some evidence of new periods. Under the Nainital-Cape Survey, eight Scuti type pulsators have been discovered with the pulsation periods in the range of several minutes to few hours. In order to understand these observed pulsational variabilities, we have performed non-adiabatic linear stability analyses of these stars having mass in the range of 1 to 3 Mʘ. Several low order pressure modes (p-modes) are found to be unstable where the pulsation pe-riods associated with these unstable modes are in good agreement with the observed periods. Particularly for HD 118660, HD 113878, HD 102480, HD 98851, and HD 25515, we demonstrate that the observed variabilities can be explained with the low order radial p-mode pulsations.

The oscillating Algol-type (oEA) stars are the former secondaries of evolved, semi-detached eclipsing binaries which are (still) undergoing mass transfer and form a newly detected class of pulsators close to the main sequence. Their unique feature consists of mass accretion onto the atmosphere of the pulsating star. Mass accretion affects the mass, radius, density as well as the star’s evolution. Such stars are therefore very attractive targets for asteroseismic studies. A new tool for mode identification of pulsating components in eclipsing binaries consists in using the event of primary eclipse as a spatial filter to resolve the pulsations across the stellar surface of the pulsator. During an eclipse, depending on the spatial structure of modes represented by the wave numbers (l,m), different shapes of the pulsation amplitude and phase variations can be observed. A comparison between the modelled and the observed amplitudes and phases then provides the correct mode identification. The method needs a geometrical model, the pulsation frequencies and the light curves as input. The geometrical model can be obtained from a simultaneous modelling of the light and radial velocity curves. The pulsation frequencies are obtained from subtracting a binary model from the original light curves followed by a frequency analysis of the residuals. We will identify and illustrate systems where observations with a fast CCD camera equipping the 3.6-m DOT telescope could deliver the data needed for the application of the eclipse mapping method.

Tidal stellar streams are pristine star structures that play central role in addressing long standing mysteries of the Galactic archaeology. Since streams are orbital in nature, they inherently possess the characteristics of unravelling the underlying mass distribution of the galaxy, and can be used to probe the shape of the dark matter halo. Besides testing the ‘hierarchical merging’ scenario of galaxy formation, stream gaps can also provide indirect evidence for the existence of dark matter sub-halos (thereby, in principle, constraining the nature of the dark matter particle itself). Due to all these reasons, the dynamical analysis of stellar streams of the Milky Way Galaxy naturally becomes one of the interesting problems. However, the foremost challenge is to detect these structures. During the thesis, STREAMFINDER algorithm (a state of the art algorithm) was designed to systematically process the Gaia dataset (ESA’s novel astrophysical catalogue containing unprecedented astrometric solutions of over 1.6 billion stars) for the detection of the stellar streams of the Milky Way. This hefty endeavour led to the detection of 10 high confidence stream structures, of which 5 were reported as new discoveries.This harvest of structures also facilitated, for the first time, creation of a panoramic structural and kinematic map of the stellar streams of the Milky Way halo, taking our community a step further in unravelling the complex formation history of our Galaxy. This project was instantly followed by the orbital analysis of one of the detected streams (namely GD-1) to explore the improvements in the gravitational potential models of our Galaxy. The constraints on the Milky Way’s mass and that on the shape of its dark matter halo, that were obtained by simply employing this single stream, revealed the potential power the analysis of an ensemble of streams would hold in in probing the overall galactic mass distribtuion of our Galaxy. Thereby, the thesis paved way for new discoveries of the stellar substructures, also highlighting the future prospects in this field.; Les courants stellaires de marée sont des structures en étoile immaculées qui jouent un rôle central dans la résolution des mystères de longue date de l'archéologie galactique. Étant donné que les flux sont de nature orbitale, ils possèdent intrinsèquement les caractéristiques de résolution de la distribution de masse sous-jacente de la galaxie et peuvent être utilisés pour sonder la forme du halo de matière noire. En plus de tester le scénario de «fusion hiérarchique» de la formation de galaxies, les brèches de ruisseau peuvent également fournir une preuve indirecte de l’existence de sous-halos de matière noire (ce qui, en principe, limite la nature de la particule de matière noire elle-même). Pour toutes ces raisons, l'analyse dynamique des flux stellaires de la Voie Lactée devient naturellement l'un des problèmes les plus intéressants. Cependant, le principal défi consiste à détecter ces structures. Au cours de la thèse, l’algorithme STREAMFINDER (un algorithme à la pointe de la technologie) a été conçu pour traiter systématiquement le jeu de données Gaia (le nouveau catalogue astrophysique de l’ESA contenant des solutions astrométriques sans précédent de plus de 1,6 milliard d’étoiles) pour la détection des flux stellaires de la Voie lactée. Cette lourde entreprise a permis de détecter 10 structures de flux de confiance, dont 5 étaient considérées comme de nouvelles découvertes. Cette récolte de structures a également facilité, pour la première fois, la création d’une carte structurale et cinématique panoramique des flux stellaires de la rivière Milky. Halo, poussant notre communauté encore plus loin dans l’histoire complexe de la formation de notre galaxie. Ce projet a été immédiatement suivi de l'analyse orbitale de l'un des flux détectés (à savoir GD-1) pour explorer les améliorations des modèles de potentiel gravitationnel de notre galaxie. Les contraintes imposées à la masse de la Voie lactée et à la forme de son halo de matière noire, obtenues simplement en utilisant ce seul flux, ont révélé la puissance potentielle que l'analyse d'un ensemble de flux permettrait de sonder la distribution globale de la masse galactique de notre galaxie. Ainsi, la thèse a ouvert la voie à de nouvelles découvertes des sous-structures stellaires, soulignant également les perspectives d'avenir dans ce domaine.

Transport of angular momentum is a long-standing problem in stellar physics which recently became more acute thanks to the observations of the space-borne mission \emph{Kepler}. Indeed, the need for an efficient mechanism able to explain the rotation profile of low-mass stars has been emphasized by asteroseimology and waves are among the potential candidates to do so. In this article, our objective is not to review all the literature related to the transport of angular momentum by waves but rather to emphasize the way it is to be computed in stellar models. We stress that to model wave transport of angular momentum is a non-trivial issue that requires to properly account for interactions between meridional circulation and waves. Also, while many authors only considered the effect of the wave momentum flux in the mean momentum equation, we show that this is an incomplete picture that prevents from grasping the main physics of the problem. We thus present the Transform Eulerian Formalism (TEM) which enable to properly address the problem., 17 pages, 4 figures. International audience; It is clear that in order to explain many observed stellar phenomena, atomic diffusion must be included in stellar models. The effects of atomic diffusion are not limited to the surface abundances as we will see, it occurs in stars from the surface to the center and even if these effects are reduced in the external layers by other transport processes it remains in the center. We will also see that the induced chemical stratification has a strong impact on the stellar opacity.

The Nainital-Cape Survey is a dedicated search programme initiated in 1999 in the coordination of astronomers from SAAO South Africa, ARIES Nainital and ISRO Bangalore. Over the last 17 years a total of 345 chemically peculiar stars were monitored for photometric variability, making it one of the longest ground-based survey to search for pulsation in chemically peculiar stars in terms of both time span and sample size. Under this survey, we discovered rapid pulsation in the Ap star HD12098 while δ Scuti-type pulsations were detected in seven Am stars. Those stars in which pulsations were not detected have also been tabulated along with their detailed astrophysical parameters for further investigation.

We present the first period study of six contact binaries in the closest globular cluster M4 the data collected from June 1995−June 2009 and Oct 2012−Sept 2013. New times of minima are determined for all the six variables and eclipse timing (O-C) diagrams along with the quadratic fit are presented. For all the variables, the study of (O-C) variations reveals changes in the periods. In addition, the fundamental parameters for four of the contact binaries obtained using the Wilson-Devinney code (v2003) are presented. Planned observations of these binaries using the 3.6-m Devasthal Optical Telescope (DOT) and the 4-m International Liquid Mirror Telescope (ILMT) operated by the Aryabhatta Research Institute of Observational Sciences (ARIES; Nainital) can throw light on their evolutionary status from long term period variation studies.

In this work we analyzed the Kepler light curve data of HD 73045. The raw data has been smoothened using standard filters. The power spectrum has been obtained by using a fast Fourier transform routine. It shows the presence of more than one period. In order to take care of any non-stationary behavior, we carried out a wavelet analysis to obtain the wavelet power spectrum. In addition, to identify the scale invariant structure, the data has been analyzed using a multifractal detrended fluctuation analysis. Further to characterize the diversity of embedded patterns in the HD 73045 flux time series, we computed various entropy-based complexity measures e.g. sample entropy, spectral entropy and permutation entropy. The presence of periodic structure in the time series was further analyzed using the visibility network and horizontal visibility network model of the time series. The degree distributions in the two network models confirm such structures.

We have carried out time series photometry of the some young open clusters NGC 1893, Be 59, NGC 7380, Stock 8 and NGC 281 to search for pre-main-sequence variable stars. We have detected several pre-main-sequence variables associated to the young open clusters with periods ranging from ~0.1 to ~50 days. These pre-main-sequence variables could be T Tauri stars. The association of these variable stars with the cluster has been established on the basis of two colour diagrams, a colour-magnitude diagram and spectral energy distributions. The brightness of classical T Tauri stars is found to vary with a larger amplitude in comparison to weak line T Tauri stars. It is found that the amplitude of pre-main-sequence variables decreases with increasing mass, which could be due to the dispersal of discs of massive stars. We have also detected several stars as main-sequence variables, which are classified either as slowly pulsating B stars, β Cep stars, δ Scuti stars or members of a new class of variable stars.

Be/X-ray binaries, consisting of a Be star and a compact object (neutron star), form the largest subclass of High Mass X-ray Binaries. The orbit of the compact object around the Be star is wide and highly eccentric. Neutron stars in the Be/X-ray binaries are generally quiescent in X-ray emission. Transient X-ray outbursts seen in these objects are thought to be due to the interaction between the compact object and the circumstellar disk of the Be star at the periastron passage. Optical/infrared observations of the companion Be star during these outbursts show that the increase in the X-ray intensity of the neutron star is coupled with the decrease in the optical/infrared flux of the companion star. Apart from the change in optical/infrared flux, dramatic changes in the Be star emission line profiles are also seen during X-ray outbursts. Observational evidences of changes in the emission line profiles and optical/infrared continuum flux along with associated X-ray outbursts from the neutron stars in several Be/X-ray binaries are presented in this paper.

Automated method of full spectrum fitting gives reliable estimates of stellar atmospheric parameters (Teff, logg and [Fe/H]) for late A, F, G and early K type stars. Recently, the technique was further improved in the cooler regime and the validity range was extended up to M6 - M7 spectral type( Teff $\sim\,2900$ K). The present study aims to explore the application of this method on the low-resolution spectra of Am stars, a class of chemically peculiar (CP) stars, to examine its robustness for these objects. We use ULySS with MILES (Medium-resolution INT Library of Empirical Spectra) V2 spectral interpolator for parameter determination. In the present analysis we have estimated the fundamental parameters of two poorly studied open star clusters, namely Teutsch 61 and Czernik 3, using 2MASS JHKs data. We have used the color-magnitude and colour-colour diagrams to determine their fundamental parameters.

We report on a study of 250 optical spectra for 50 bright A/F-type candidate hybrid pulsating stars from the Kepler field. Most of the spectra have been collected with the high-resolution spectrograph HERMES attached to the Mercator telescope, La Palma. We determined the radial velocities (RVs), projected rotational velocities, fundamental atmospheric parameters and provide a classification based on the appearance of the cross-correlation profiles and the behaviour of the RVs with time in order to find true hybrid pulsators. Additionally, we also detected new spectroscopic binary and multiple systems in our sample and determined the fraction of spectroscopic systems. In order to be able to extend this investigation to the fainter A-F type candidate hybrid stars, various high-quality spectra collected with 3–4 m sized telescopes suitably equipped with a high-resolution spectrograph and furthermore located in the Northern hemisphere would be ideal. This programme could be done using the new instruments installed at the Devasthal Observatory.

We present the results of an analysis of photometric time-series observations for NGC 2126 acquired at the Thai National Observatory (TNO) in Thailand and the Mount Lemmon Optical Astronomy Observatory (LOAO) in USA during the years 2004, 2013 and 2015. The main purpose is to search for new variable stars and to study the light curves of binary systems as well as the oscillation spectra of pulsating stars. NGC 2126 is an intermediate-age open cluster which has a population of stars inside the  Scuti instability strip. Several variable stars are reported including three eclipsing binary stars, one of which is an eclipsing binary star with a pulsating component (V551 Aur). The Wilson-Devinney technique was used to analyze its light curves and to determine a new set of the system’s parameters. A frequency analysis of the eclipse-subtracted light curve was also performed. Eclipsing binaries which are members of open clusters are capable of delivering strong constraints on the cluster’s properties which are in turn useful for a pulsational analysis of their pulsating components. Therefore, high-resolution, high-quality spectra will be needed to derive accurate component radial velocities of the faint eclipsing binaries which are located in the field of NGC 2126. The new Devasthal Optical Telescope, suitably equipped, could in principle do this.

Using the Optical Gravitational Lensing Experiment catalogue, two contact binaries were studied using data in the V and I bands. The photometric solutions for the V and I bands are presented for two contact binaries OGLE 003835.24-735413.2 (V1) and OGLE 004619.65-725056.2 (V2) in Small Maglellanic Cloud. The presented light curves are analyzed using the Wilson-Devinney code. The results show that the variables are in good thermal and marginal geometrical contact with features like the O’Connell effect in V1. The absolute dimensions are estimated and its dynamical evolution is inferred. They tend to be solar type marginal contact binaries. The 3.6-m Devasthal Optical Telescope and the 4.0-m International Liquid Mirror Telescope of the Aryabhatta Research Institute of Observational Sciences (ARIES, Nainithal) can facilitate the continuous monitoring of such kind of objects which will help in finding the reasons behind their period changes and their impact on the evolution of the clusters.

We have made UBV I CCD observations for the open clusters Teutsch 1, Riddle 4 and Czernik 6 using 1.04-m Sampurnanand telescope located at the ARIES observatory (Manora peak, Nainital, India). We have used 2MASS JHKS data for the clusters Teutsch 126, Teutsch 54 and Czernik 3. For the estimation of fundamental parameters, we have plotted radial density profiles, colour-magnitude and colour-colour diagrams. Using these inputs, we have studied the structure of Milky Way Galaxy in the second Galactic quadrant. We have considered the open clusters that are younger than 1 Gyrs and lay in the longitude range from 90 to 180 deg. Our study shows that up to 3.5 Kpc, the Galactic disc bends towards the southern hemisphere while after 3.5 Kpc it bends towards the northern hemisphere. The distribution of reddening with longitude and age shows a decreasing trend with the longitude and age of the clusters. Our study also indicates that younger clusters have more reddening than older ones.

The similar age of the stars in star cluster system makes them interesting objects for the study of stellar evolution. However, for such studies, it is essential to reduce the field star contamination. Proper motion of the stars in the region of star clusters provides a unique possibility of getting membership information of the stars. The mean absolute proper motion of the globular cluster NGC 4590 is derived as -2.95 ± 0.54 mas yr-1 and 2.03 ± 0.52 mas yr-1 along right ascension (RA) and declination (DEC) respectively using, 111,000 stars having an error less than 7 mas yr-1. We propose a similar study of globular clusters with the CCD imager mounted on the 3.6m Devasthal Optical telescope (DOT).

We present photometry in the R-band and linear polarimetry of two cataclysmic variables, namely IPHAS J025827.88 + 635234.9 and IPHAS J051814.33 + 294113.0. The data were obtained from 1-m class tele-scopes of the Aryabhatta Research Institute of Observational Sciences (ARIES; Nainital, India). In addition to the deep eclipse, strong short-period oscillations are also found. We derived a pulse period of (1203 ± 25) s for IPHAS J025827.88 + 635234.9 and (3277 ± 81) s for IPHAS J051814.33 + 294113.0. The presence of both orbital and spin modulations in these systems indicate that they belong to a class of intermediate polars. The full width at half depth of the eclipse is also found to be variable from epoch to epoch for IPHAS J025827.88 + 635234.9. The presence of a variable linear polarization of high value in these two sources indicates that these systems possess a strong magnetic field.

We report on photometric variability studies of a L3.5 brown dwarf 2MASS J00361617+1821104 (2M0036+18) in the field and of four young brown dwarfs in the star-forming region IC 348. From muti-epoch observations, we found significant periodic variability in 2M0036+18 with a period of 2.66 ± 0.55 hours on one occasion while it seemed to be non-variable on three other occasions. An evolving dust cloud might cause such a scenario. Among four young brown dwarfs of IC 348 in the spectral range M7.25 - M8, one brown dwarf 2MASS J03443921+3208138 shows significant variability. The K-band spectra (2.0-2.4 m) of nine very low mass stars (M1 - M9 V) are used to characterize the water band index (H20-K2). We found that it is strongly correlated with the surface temperature of M dwarfs.

The space-borne missions CoRoT (2006-2014) and Kepler (2009) provided a lot of seismic data for thousands of low-mass stars. Data analysis enabled us to study the interior of these stars during their evolution and brought stringent constraints on the physical processes at work under their surface.These observations notably revealed that the mean core rotation rate of stars weakly increases on the subgiant branch before dropping on the red giant branch while their central layers are contracting.for several subgiant and red giant stars in which mixed modes could be detected. Subsequently, several works demonstrated the inability of the current stellar evolution codes to reproduce these observations and stressed out the need for an additional transport process of angular momentum to counteract the acceleration of the central rotation driven by the core contraction during the post-main sequence evolution.Therefore, in a first part of my PhD thesis, I investigated the effect of the angular momentum transport by internal gravity waves on the rotation evolution of low-mass stars. These waves have buoyancy as restoring force and can propagate into stably stratified radiative zones, where they are able to interact with the medium and modify its mean rotation. The efficiency of the angular momentum transport by waves depends on their amplitude and so on their generation mechanism. While several works had already theoretically studied the wave excitation by turbulent pressure in the convective, an estimate of the wave generation by penetrative convection into the upper layers of the radiatve zone was still missing. I thus developed a semi-analytical excitation model to estimate the part of the plumes kinetic energy transferred into internal gravity waves at the base of the convective zone (Pinçon et al., 2016). I first found that penetrative convection generates waves more efficiently than turbulent pressure, and then that plume-induced waves are able to counteract the spin-up of the core driven by the gravitational contraction from the main-sequence to the beginning of the ascent of the red giant branch. Moreover, I showed that the radial-differential rotation observed in subgiant and early red giant stars can be explained by a regulation mechanism controlled by the influence of the plume-induced internal gravity waves (Pinçon et al., 2017).In a second part, I worked on the elaboration and the improvement of the seismic diagnoses by mixed modes that have the ability to probe both the envelope and the core of stars. Seismic diagnoses aim at making the link between the features observed in oscillation spectra and the physical quantities describing stars and their internal structures. In a first step, I focused on the coupling factor of mixed modes which expresses the level of interaction between the central and the outer resonant cavities and had still remained largely unexploited. The first large-scale analysis of this parameter by Mosser et al. (2017) showed that this factor vary during the evolution, with typical values depending on the evolutionary status.In this work, I contributed to the interpretation of the results via a simplified model in which the value of the coupling factor is directly sensitive to structural readjustments occurring during stellar evolution. This study notably revealed the necessity to consider the hypothesis of a strong coupling. In parallel to this work, a theoretical description of mixed modes under the assumption of strong coupling was proposed by Takata (2016). Therefore, I undertook a validation of this formalism by comparing its predictions with an oscillation code for appropriate evolved models. Finally, using a simplifying modeling, I showed that a precise analysis of the mixed modes spectrum can also bring information on the contrast of density between the core and the envelope.; Les missions spatiales CoRoT (2006-2014) et Kepler (2009) ont procuré de nombreuses données sismiques pour des milliers d'étoiles de faible masse. L'analyse de ces données a rendu possible l'étude de l'intérieur de ces étoiles au cours de l'évolution et a apporté de fortes contraintes sur les processus physiques à l’œuvre sous leur surface. En particulier, ces observations ont montré que la rotation moyenne du cœur de ces étoiles augmente légèrement avec le temps sur la branche des sous-géantes avant de diminuer lors de l'ascension de la branche des géantes rouges. Ceci est désaccord avec les prédictions théoriques actuelles et souligne la nécessité d'inclure de nouveaux processus de transport de moment cinétique dans les modèles stellaires. Dans une première partie, j'ai donc étudié l'influence du transport de moment cinétique par les ondes internes de gravité sur l'évolution de la rotation dans les étoiles de faible masse. Ces ondes se propagent dans les zones radiatives stablement stratifiées et sont capables d'en modifier la vitesse de rotation moyenne. Or, l'efficacité du transport par les ondes dépend de leur amplitude et donc du mécanisme d'excitation. Alors que des modèles semi-analytiques permettaient déjà d'évaluer l'énergie transférée aux ondes par la pression turbulente dans la zone convective, une estimation théorique de l'excitation par la pénétration de panaches convectifs à l'interface avec la zone radiative restait manquante. J'ai donc proposé un modèle d'excitation pour estimer la part d'énergie cinétique des panaches transférées sous forme d'ondes à la base de la zone convective (Pinçon et al., 2016). Cela m'a d'abord permis d'établir que la pénétration convective génère des ondes plus efficacement que la pression turbulente, et ensuite que les ondes induites par la pénétration convective sont capables de s'opposer à l'accélération de la rotation due à la contraction des couches internes, depuis la séquence principale jusqu'au début de l'ascension de la branche des géantes rouges. En particulier, j'ai montré que les valeurs de la rotation observées dans l'intérieur des étoiles sous-géantes peuvent être interprétées comme le possible résultat d'un mécanisme de régulation contrôlé par ces ondes (Pinçon at al., 2017). Dans une seconde partie, je me suis intéressé à l'amélioration et à l'élaboration des diagnostiques sismiques par les modes mixtes, ces modes d'oscillation qui sont capables de sonder aussi bien l'enveloppe que les régions centrales des étoiles. Les diagnostiques sismiques font le lien entre les caractéristiques observées dans un spectre d'oscillation et les propriétés de la structure interne de l'étoile. Mon attention s'est premièrement focalisée sur la facteur de couplage des modes mixtes qui décrit le degré d'interaction entre les oscillations dans la cavité centrale et celles dans l'enveloppe de l'étoile. Ce paramètre n'a été, jusque là, que très peu étudié. Une première étude observationnelle sur un large échantillon d'étoiles par Mosser et al. (2017) a montré que ce facteur varie au cours de l'évolution et se comporte différemment selon le stade évolutif. J'ai contribué à l'interprétation des résultats en montrant via un modèle simplifié que ce facteur est sensible aux changements structuraux de l'étoile au cours de l'évolution. De plus, cette analyse a notamment démontré la nécessité de considérer l'hypothèse d'un fort couplage. J'ai donc entrepris une validation du formalisme proposé parallèlement à cette dernière étude par Takata (2016) en comparant ses prédictions avec celles obtenues numériquement pour des modèles d'étoiles évoluées. Enfin, en utilisant une modélisation simple, j'ai montré qu'une analyse précise du spectre des modes mixtes paramètre permettrait de plus d'obtenir de l'information sur le contraste de densité entre le coeur et l'enveloppe de l'étoile.

Through the study of the globular cluster (GC) properties, it is possible to unravel the history of their host galaxies and by extension the history of the universe. During this thesis, I was interested in the GC properties in different environments. First, I looked at the GCs in the Virgo cluster, a dense galaxy cluster located at 16.5 Mpc. I used data from the survey NGVS (Next Generation Virgo Survey) to define a sample of 1846 GCs. Then, I compared the colors of these GCs with those of Milky Way GCs and I noted color differences never yet observed, which are still enigmatic. In order to understand these differences, I compared the observed GCs with synthetic GCs obtained with 10 stellar population synthesis models. I also studied the age and metallicity predictions of those models. In the end, in their current status, the models do not account for the diversity highlighted in my thesis. Finally, I assessed the spatial properties of the GCs around M87 in order to find any signatures of a recent accretion., L’étude des amas globulaires (AGs) nous offre une opportunité d’appréhender l’histoire de leurs galaxies hôtes et ainsi l’histoire de l’univers. Dans cette thèse, je me suis intéressé aux propriétés des AGs dans différents environnements. Tout d’abord, je me suis concentré sur les AGs de l’amas de la Vierge, un amas de galaxies très dense situé à environ 16,5 Mpc. J’ai utilisé les données observées par le relevé NGVS (Next Generation Virgo Survey) pour définir un échantillon qui contient 1846AGs. J’ai ensuite comparé les couleurs de ces amas avec celles d’autres AGs originaires de la Voie Lactée et j’ai remarqué des différences de couleurs encore jamais observées, dont la nature exacte est encore énigmatique. Pour comprendre ces différences, j’ai ensuite comparé les AGs observés avec des AGs synthétiques basés sur 10 modèles de synthèse de populations stellaires. J’ai aussi étudié les âges et les métallicités ressortant de la confrontation directe des couleurs des AGs à ces modèles. En conclusion, en l’état actuel, les modèles ne rendent pas compte de la diversité identifiée dans ma thèse. Finalement, j’ai effectué une brève étude des propriétés spatiales des AGs autour de M87 pour repérer des marques d’accrétion.

Ce mémoire présente une exploitation additionnelle du catalogue LSPM comportant deux grandes parties, soit la poursuite du relevé des naines blanches à l'intérieur d'un rayon de 40 pc et l'étude de la contrepartie SDSS de ce catalogue. La première consiste à utiliser les critères basés sur des diagrammes de mouvements propres réduits établis dans des travaux antérieurs afin de dresser une liste de candidates naines blanches. Quelques modifications quant à l'ordre de priorité ainsi que le critère basé sur les magnitudes photographiques seront apportées. Une approche de moindres carrés non-linéaire appliquée aux magnitudes observées dans les systèmes photométriques disponibles permet ensuite de déterminer la distance des objets sélectionnés par comparaison avec les plus récents modèles de naines blanches disponibles. Un second critère est appliqué en se basant sur la qualité de l'ajustement résultant de la procédure. Ceci mènera à l'identification de 31 nouvelles naines blanches, dont 11 situées vraisemblablement à moins de 40 pc. Une nouvelle liste de candidates a aussi pu être établie pour la poursuite du relevé. La seconde partie consiste à utiliser tous les objets du 7e relevé du SDSS identifiés dans le catalogue LSPM pour l'étude statistique des naines blanches, essentiellement via la détermination de leur fonction de luminosité. Pour ce faire, un critère basé sur les diagrammes de mouvements propres réduits sera encore une fois utilisé. La distance des objets sélectionnés sera déterminée selon la même procédure, mais cette fois en ne se limitant pas à 40 pc. La méthode de pondération selon le volume observable (1/v_max) est utilisée afin de compenser pour le biais introduit par la sensibilité du catalogue à la magnitude. Cependant, d'autres facteurs viennent influencer la détermination de la fonction de luminosité et une analyse de ceux-ci est finalement présentée., We present an additional exploitation of the Lépine \& Shara Proper Motion catalog (LSPM) divided in two main parts: a follow up and some improvements on the census or northern white dwarfs within 40 pc of the Sun and a study of the SDSS white dwarfs component in the LSPM survey. The former consists in the use of criteria previously established in order to create a list of white dwarf candidates with an associated priority. The priority order has been enriched and one of the criteria has been slightly modified. We then use a non-linear least square method to the observed magnitudes in each available photometric system simultaneously in order to determine the atmospheric parameters and, in particular, the distance of each white dwarf candidate. This approach allows a second criteria to be applied on our sample based on the goodness of the fit. This will lead us to the identification of 31 new white dwarfs, from which 11 are likely to remain within 40 pc of the Sun. A new list of 340 candidates has also been established for eventual observations. The latter consists in the use of all the objects from the 7th data release of the SDSS that have a counterpart in the LSPM catalog to elaborate a statistical study of white dwarfs, in this case by calculating the white dwarf luminosity function. To do so, one of the same criterion mentioned above will be used to make a first selection of presumed white dwarfs. Afterwards, the distance will be determined by the same least-square method, but without any restriction on the distance. To balance the effect due to the sensibility in magnitude of the survey, we used a ponderation method based on the maximum observable volume (1/v_max). However, other factors come to affect our results and the last part of this work concentrates on their identification.

The origin of some of the observed stellar magnetic fields and their impact on stellar evolution are not well understood. This is particularly true for the main sequence intermediate-mass stars. Recent spectropolarimetric surveys have indeed exhibited an unexplained magnetic dichotomy, of 2 orders of magnitude in term of the longitudinal field, between the strong field of Ap/Bp stars and the weak field of Vega-like stars. This thesis aims to test the possibility that this magnetic dichotomy is linked to the development of magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) instabilities in the radiative zone of intermediate-mass stars, as proposed by Aurière et al. (2007). To do that, I have performed 2D and 3D MHD numerical simulations that allow to follow the evolution of an axisymetric magnetic field which is initially submitted to a differential rotation in a stably stratified zone and then to consider the development of non-axisymetric MHD instabilities. The influence of different physical parameters of the simulations, as the initial strength of the poloidal magnetic field, the differentially rotating profile, the diffusion coefficient values or the effect of the stable stratification, has been tested. The analysis of the simulation results show that MHD instabilities as the magneto-rotational instability or the Tayler instability can be triggered in a differentially rotating radiative zone. In agreement with the scenario of Aurière et al. (2007), these instabilities are enough developed to modify the large scale spatial structure of a magnetic field if the initial strength of the poloidal field is sufficiently weak with respect to the initial strength of the differentially rotation. The computed longitudinal field in our most unstable simulations is reduced by 15% with respect to a stable case. Therefore, this thesis work shows that the magnetic instabilities are possible candidates to explain the magnetic desert of the main sequence intermediate-mass stars., L'origine de certains champs magnétiques stellaires observés et leur impact sur l'évolution des étoiles sont mal compris. C'est particulièrement vrai dans le cas des étoiles de masse intermédiaire de la séquence principale. Des relevés spectropolarimétriques récents ont en effet révélé l'existence d'une dichotomie magnétique inexpliquée, de 2 ordres de grandeur en terme de champ longitudinal, entre le fort champ des étoiles Ap/Bp et le faible champ des étoiles Vega-like. Le but de cette thèse est de tester la possibilité que cette dichotomie magnétique soit liée, comme proposé par Aurière el al. (2007), au développement d'instabilités magnétohydrodynamiques (MHD) dans la zone radiative des étoiles de masse intermédiaire. Pour cela, j'ai réalisé des simulations numériques MHD 2D et 3D qui permettent de suivre l'évolution d'un champ magnétique axisymétrique soumis initialement à une rotation différentielle dans une zone stratifiée de façon stable puis de considérer le développement d'instabilités MHD non-axisymétriques. L'influence de différents paramètres physiques des simulations, comme l'intensité initiale du champ magnétique poloïdal, le profil de rotation différentielle, la valeur des coefficients de diffusion ou encore l'importance de la stratification stable, a été testée. L'analyse des résultats des simulations montre que des instabilités MHD comme l'instabilité magnétorotationnelle et celle de Tayler peuvent se déclencher dans une zone radiative en rotation différentielle. En accord avec le scénario de Aurière et al. (2007), ces instabilités se développent assez pour modifier la structure spatiale à grande échelle d'un champ magnétique si l'intensité initiale du champ poloïdal est suffisamment faible par rapport à l'intensité initiale de la rotation différentielle. Le champ longitudinal calculé pour nos simulations les plus instables est diminué de 15% par rapport à un cas stable. Ce travail de thèse montre donc que les instabilités MHD sont des possibles candidats pour expliquer le désert magnétique des étoiles de masse intermédiaire de la séquence principale.

Massive stars are the main contributors of the interstellar medium enrichment. These stars are usually fast rotators, with a radiative envelope in which the interaction between stratification and rotation gives rise to a differential rotation. This can trigger transport phenomena in the star, and affect its fast evolution. Besides, many of these stars are classical pulsators. This work focuses first on the impact of a differential rotation on the low-frequency oscillation spectrum which contains gravito-inertial modes. These modes are restored by the combination of buoyancy and Coriolis force and probe deep layers of stars. Our study is twofold : we compute the paths of characteristics in the non-dissipative limit, and solve the fully-dissipative eigenvalue problem numerically using a spectral decomposition. We find various singularities (attractors, critical latitudes, corotation resonances, wedge-trapping) and regular modes. Some of these modes are excited by baroclinic instabilities that may saturate through non-linear effects. If so, we have discovered a new excitation mechanism for these modes, driven by differential rotation. Aside of this theoretical work ; we have considered the case of Rasalhague (aOph), which is a well-known fast rotator. We studied this star by associating the ESTER structure code with the TOP oscillation code. Both of these codes use a two-dimensional structure, taking rotation effects fully into account. We use the mode damping rates and visibilities to filter the best candidates for observed modes identification out of the synthetic spectra. Even though we could not reach a satisfactory identification of the observed frequencies, we improved our understanding of the problem and identified the next steps to be taken., Les étoiles massives sont les principaux contributeurs à l'enrichissement du milieu interstellaire. Ce sont généralement des rotateurs rapides, dotés d'une enveloppe radiative dans laquelle l'interaction de la stratification et la rotation génère une rotation différentielle. Celle-ci peut alimenter divers phénomènes de transport et l'évolution rapide de l'étoile. Nombre de ces étoiles sont par ailleurs des pulsateurs classiques. Cette thèse s'intéresse en premier lieu à l'interaction entre la rotation différentielle et les pulsations à basse fréquence dans l'étoile : celles-ci sont des modes gravito-inertiels dont la force de rappel est une combinaison de la force de Coriolis et de la poussée d'Archimède. Ils sondent les couches profondes de l'étoile, et sont étudiés suivant deux méthodes : dans la limite non-dissipative par la méthode des caractéristiques, et dans le cas dissipatif par la résolution du problème complet par une méthode spectrale. Nous mettons en évidence différentes singularités (attracteurs, latitudes critiques, résonances de corotation, piégeage en coin) et des modes réguliers. Certains modes sont excités par des instabilités baroclines, qui, si des effets non-linéaires provoquent leur saturation, permettent l'existence d'un mécanisme d'excitation nouveau dû à la rotation différentielle. Dans un second temps, nous avons associé le code de structure ESTER au code de calcul d'oscillations TOP. Ces deux codes calculent les quantités dans une étoile en deux dimensions et les modes associés en tenant compte des effets de la rotation de façon complète. Nous utilisons visibilités et taux d'amortissement des modes pour sélectionner dans le spectre synthétique les meilleurs candidats à l'identification des modes observés. Nous présentons une application au rotateur rapide Rasalhague (aOph), pour lequel de nombreuses observations sont disponibles. Nous n'avons pas obtenu une identification des modes univoque, mais le problème est maintenant mieux cerné et diverses pistes de progrès ont été identifiées.

Gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) particularly intrigued over the last decades because of their fascinating properties. They vary according to the size and shape of nanoparticles making objects opening opportunities in many areas. Gold is especially interesting since it has a great flexibility of these resonance surface plasmon bands ranging from the visible to near infrared (IR).In this thesis, we worked on the synthesis of AuNPs of different sizes and shapes in order to be able to work in many wavelengths from visible to IR. This multitude of AuNPs enabled us to study the effect of these different plasmon resonances of chromophores in an effort to understand the mechanisms of these interactions. The ultimate goal of this work, in addition to improving the understanding of these interactions, is the realization of monolithic materials for optics by a sol-gel approach allowing the incorporation of optically active molecules and these plasmonic systems, which give interesting properties to the obtained materials. We focused specifically on nonlinear absorption properties, in order to produce optical limiting materials to protect optical systems against intense radiation, such as lasers.These systems began to be developed in previous PhD thesis made in our laboratory but the understanding brought by this work have helped deepen the particles-chromophore interactions and the role of the wavelength of the plasmon resonance in order to optimize efficiency in optical limiting.; Les nanoparticules d’or (AuNPs) intriguent tout particulièrement ces dernières années de par leurs propriétés fascinantes. Elles sont variables selon la forme et la taille des nanoparticules ce qui en fait des objets ouvrant des perspectives dans plusieurs domaines. L’or est d’autant plus intéressant qu’il a une grande flexibilité de ces bandes de résonance plasmon de surface, allant du visible au proche infrarouge (IR). Au cours de cette thèse, nous avons donc travaillé sur la synthèse d’AuNPs de tailles et de formes différentes pour pouvoir travailler à de nombreuses longueurs d’onde du visible à l’IR. Cette multitude de AuNPs nous a permis d’étudier l’effet de ces différentes résonances plasmons sur des chromophores afin d’essayer de comprendre les mécanismes de ces interactions. Le but final de ces travaux, outre l’amélioration de la compréhension de ces interactions, est la réalisation de matériaux monolithiques pour l’optique par une approche sol-gel permettant l’incorporation de molécules optiquement actives et de ces systèmes plasmoniques, qui donnent des propriétés intéressantes aux matériaux obtenus. Nous nous sommes intéressés plus précisément aux propriétés d’absorption non-linéaire, dans le but de réaliser des matériaux limiteurs optiques pour protéger des systèmes optiques contre des rayonnements intenses, comme les lasers. Ces systèmes ont commencé à être mis au point dans les thèses précédentes faites au laboratoire mais la compréhension amenée par ces travaux auront permis d’approfondir les interactions particules-chromophores et le rôle de la longueur d’onde de la résonance plasmon afin d’optimiser l’efficacité en limitation optique.

Young star clusters are substructured and undergo a dynamical evolution erasing this substructure to form relaxed spherical clusters. I present a new method to generate realistic initial conditions to perform N-body simulations of this process: the Hubble-Lemaitre fragmentation. By expanding an initially uniform sphere, I allow spontaneous overdensities to grow, creating a realistic model for young clumpy stellar systems. This method is validated by analysing the distribution and content of the clumps and comparing them to hydrodynamical simulations of star formation as well as observations of star forming regions. These systems undergo a softer collapse than uniform ones. I injected binary stars in the fragmented models and found they were heavily processed when substructure was present. I also found extreme short and tight binaries, down to 0.01 AU, to formin the models. The method has a lot of potential, such as the generation of mock observations of star-forming regions., Les jeunes amas d'étoiles sont sous-structurés et évoluent dynamiquement pour former des amas sphériques à l'équilibre. Je présente une nouvelle méthode pour générer des conditions initiales réalistes pour simuler ce processus: la fragmentation de Hubble-Lemaitre. Je laisse le système développer spontanément des surdensités au cours d'une expansion du système. Le modèle résultant se compare bien aux simulations hydrodynamiques de formation stellaire et aux observations des jeunes amas. Le modèle fragmenté s'effondre de manière plus douce qu'un modèle uniforme. L'injection d'une population d'étoile binaire avant l'effondrement a montré qu'un système sous-structuré détruisait bien plus de binaires qu'un système à l'équilibre. Des binaires particulièrement larges ou serrées, jusqu’à 0.01 AU, ont également été détectées dans ces modèles. Cette méthode est très prometteuse, un exemple d'application est la génération d'observations synthétiques de régions de formation stellaire.

Solar-like stars are believed to generate magnetic fields in their convective envelope through dynamo processes. Magnetic energy is injected in their extended atmosphere, the corona, which is heated up to few million Kelvin. The outward pressure gradient drives a magnetized stellar wind that induces a rotational braking on the star.We first focus on the consequences of this magnetized outflow on stellar rotation. Thanks to 2.5D MHD wind simulations, we quantify the influence of complex topologies of the magnetic field on the efficiency of the braking. We derive a general formulation that accounts for arbitrary complex magnetic topologies using the open magnetic flux. We propose a way to estimate the open magnetic flux for solar-like stars thanks to semi-analytical models, in order to use our formulation in rotational evolution models. We then use 3D simulations constrained by spectropolarimetric maps to study the evolution of stellar winds with age. Our simulations, thanks to prescriptions on the evolution of the coronal base density and temperature, are in good agreement with empirical rotational models. Moreover, we unravel the complex structure of realistic coronae made of dead zones and open regions. We also demonstrate that young and fast rotating stars have a trimodal wind speed distribution due to the magneto-centrifugal effect and superradial flux tube expansion.The last part of this thesis discusses the interaction of stellar winds with planets. We demonstrate that close-in planets, such as hot Jupiters, experience star-planet magnetic interactions that have a significant influence on their migration time scale toward the star. We then quantify the radio emission due to energy transfer between the stellar (or solar) wind and electrons of the planetary magnetospheres through the example of Mercury. This study is a first step toward the characterization of exoplanetary magnetospheres.; Les étoiles de type solaire génèrent un champ magnétique dans leur enveloppe convective grâce à l'effet dynamo. De l'énergie magnétique est injectée dans leur atmosphère étendue, la couronne, qui est chauffée à quelques millions de Kelvin. Le gradient de pression entre la base de la couronne et le milieu interstellaire produit alors un vent de particules chargées responsable du freinage rotationnel de l'étoile sur la séquence principale. Après une première partie introduisant les concepts fondamentaux de la magnétohydrodynamique stellaire, cette thèse se consacre à l'influence du vent magnétisé sur la rotation stellaire et la couronne. À l'aide d'un ensemble de 60 simulations MHD axisymétriques, nous quantifions en premier lieu l'influence de la topologie magnétique sur le freinage. Nous démontrons l'efficacité d'une nouvelle formulation de freinage qui permet de prendre en compte des topologies arbitrairement complexes grâce au flux ouvert magnétique. Nous proposons ensuite une méthode pour estimer le flux ouvert des étoiles de type solaire à partir de modèles analytiques de reconstruction coronale, qui permettent l'utilisation de cette formulation dans les modèles d'évolution rotationnelle. Enfin, à l'aide de simulations entièrement tridimensionnelles contraintes par des champs magnétiques observés, nous étudions l'évolution des propriétés du vent avec l'âge des étoiles. En modélisant l'évolution de la température et de la densité coronale en fonction du taux de rotation de l'étoile, nous retrouvons les prescriptions usuelles des modèles d'évolution rotationnelle. Les simulations 3D permettent également d'accéder à la structure complexe de la couronne organisée en régions ouvertes et fermées. Nous démontrons également que, pour les étoiles jeunes, la distribution de vitesse du vent est trimodale du fait de l'effet magnéto-centrifuge et de l'expansion superradiale des lignes de champ magnétique.La troisième partie de cette thèse aborde les interactions magnétiques étoile-planète sous deux aspects. Tout d'abord, lorsque la planète est proche, un couplage magnétique permet un échange de moment cinétique entre les deux corps. Nos travaux quantifient pour la première fois ces couples magnétiques en fonction des paramètres stellaires et des paramètres orbitaux de la planète, grâce à des simulations MHD 2D et 3D. Ce couple apparaît comme un facteur non négligeable de la migration de Jupiter chauds vers leur étoile hôte. Puis, dans le cas d'une planète plus lointaine, nous nous intéressons aux émissions radios créées dans les magnétosphères planétaires à travers l'exemple de Mercure, ouvrant la voie à la détection et à la caractérisation de magnétosphères exoplanétaires.
