Aims. A transiting planet candidate with a sub-Neptune radius orbiting the nearby ($d$ = 51.9$\pm$0.07 pc) M1.5 V star TOI-1470 with a period of $\sim$2.5 d was announced by the NASA Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS), which observed the field of TOI-1470 in four different sectors. We aim to validate its planetary nature using precise radial velocities (RVs) taken with the CARMENES spectrograph. Methods. We obtained 44 RV measurements with CARMENES spanning eight months between 3 June 2020 and 17 January 2021. For a better characterization of the parent star activity, we also collected contemporaneous optical photometric observations at the Joan Or\'o and Sierra Nevada Observatories, and we retrieved archival photometry from the literature. We used ground-based photometric observations from MuSCAT and also from MuSCAT2 and MuSCAT3 to confirm the planetary transit signals. We performed a combined photometric and spectroscopic analysis by including Gaussian processes and Keplerian orbits to simultaneously account for the stellar activity and planetary signals. Results. We estimate that TOI-1470 has a rotation period of 29$\pm$3 d based on photometric and spectroscopic data. The combined analysis confirms the discovery of the announced transiting planet, TOI-1470 b, with an orbital period of 2.527093$\pm$0.000003 d, a mass of $7.32^{+1.21}_{-1.24}$ M$_{\oplus}$, and a radius of $2.18^{+0.04}_{-0.04}$ R$_{\oplus}$. We also discover a second transiting planet that was not announced previously by TESS, TOI-1470 c, with an orbital period of 18.08816$\pm$0.00006 d, a mass of $7.24^{+2.87}_{-2.77}$ M$_{\oplus}$, and a radius of $2.47^{+0.02}_{-0.02}$ R$_{\oplus}$. We report the discovery of HN Lib b, a sub-Neptunian mass planet orbiting the nearby ($d \approx$ = 6.25 pc) M4.0 V star HN Lib detected by our CARMENES radial-velocity (RV) survey. We determined a planetary minimum mass of $M_\text{b}\sin i = $ 5.46 $\pm$ 0.75 $\text{M}_\oplus$ and an orbital period of $P_\text{b} = $ 36.116 $\pm$ 0.029 d, using $\sim$5 yr of CARMENES data, as well as archival RVs from HARPS and HIRES spanning more than 13 years. The flux received by the planet equals half the instellation on Earth, which places it in the middle of the conservative habitable zone (HZ) of its host star. The RV data show evidence for another planet candidate with $M_\text{[c]}\sin i = $ 9.7 $\pm$ 1.9 $\text{M}_\oplus$ and $P_\text{[c]} = $ 113.46 $\pm$ 0.20 d. The long-term stability of the signal and the fact that the best model for our data is a two-planet model with an independent activity component stand as strong arguments for establishing a planetary origin. However, we cannot rule out stellar activity due to its proximity to the rotation period of HN Lib, which we measured using CARMENES activity indicators and photometric data from a ground-based multi-site campaign as well as archival data. The discovery adds HN Lib b to the shortlist of super-Earth planets in the habitable zone of M dwarfs, but HN Lib [c] probably cannot be inhabited because, if confirmed, it would most likely be an icy giant.

The CARMENES instrument was conceived to deliver high-accuracy radial velocity (RV) measurements with long-term stability to search for temperate rocky planets around a sample of nearby cool stars. The broad wavelength coverage was designed to provide a range of stellar activity indicators to assess the nature of potential RV signals and to provide valuable spectral information to help characterise the stellar targets. The CARMENES Data Release 1 (DR1) makes public all observations obtained during the CARMENES guaranteed time observations, which ran from 2016 to 2020 and collected 19,633 spectra for a sample of 362 targets. The CARMENES survey target selection was aimed at minimising biases, and about 70% of all known M dwarfs within 10 pc and accessible from Calar Alto were included. The data were pipeline-processed, and high-level data products, including 18,642 precise RVs for 345 targets, were derived. Time series data of spectroscopic activity indicators were also obtained. We discuss the characteristics of the CARMENES data, the statistical properties of the stellar sample, and the spectroscopic measurements. We show examples of the use of CARMENES data and provide a contextual view of the exoplanet population revealed by the survey, including 33 new planets, 17 re-analysed planets, and 26 confirmed planets from transiting candidate follow-up. A subsample of 238 targets was used to derive updated planet occurrence rates, yielding an overall average of 1.44+/-0.20 planets with 1 M_Earth < M sin i < 1000 M_Earth and 1 d < P_orb < 1000 d per star, and indicating that nearly every M dwarf hosts at least one planet. We present the discovery of an Earth-mass planet ($M_b\sin i = 1.26\pm0.21M_\oplus$) on a 15.6d orbit of a relatively nearby ($d\sim$9.6pc) and low-mass ($0.167\pm0.011 M_\odot$) M5.0V star, Wolf 1069. Sitting at a separation of $0.0672\pm0.0014$au away from the host star puts Wolf 1069b in the habitable zone (HZ), receiving an incident flux of $S=0.652\pm0.029S_\oplus$. The planetary signal was detected using telluric-corrected radial-velocity (RV) data from the CARMENES spectrograph, amounting to a total of 262 spectroscopic observations covering almost four years. There are additional long-period signals in the RVs, one of which we attribute to the stellar rotation period. This is possible thanks to our photometric analysis including new, well-sampled monitoring campaigns undergone with the OSN and TJO facilities that supplement archival photometry (i.e., from MEarth and SuperWASP), and this yielded an updated rotational period range of $P_{rot}=150-170$d, with a likely value at $169.3^{+3.7}_{-3.6}$d. The stellar activity indicators provided by the CARMENES spectra likewise demonstrate evidence for the slow rotation period, though not as accurately due to possible factors such as signal aliasing or spot evolution. Our detectability limits indicate that additional planets more massive than one Earth mass with orbital periods of less than 10 days can be ruled out, suggesting that perhaps Wolf 1069 b had a violent formation history. This planet is also the 6th closest Earth-mass planet situated in the conservative HZ, after Proxima Centauri b, GJ 1061d, Teegarden's Star c, and GJ 1002 b and c. Despite not transiting, Wolf 1069b is nonetheless a very promising target for future three-dimensional climate models to investigate various habitability cases as well as for sub-ms$^{-1}$ RV campaigns to search for potential inner sub-Earth-mass planets in order to test planet formation theories., Comment: 26 pages, 15 figures

We report the discovery and characterisation of two Earth-mass planets orbiting in the habitable zone of the nearby M-dwarf GJ~1002 based on the analysis of the radial-velocity (RV) time series from the ESPRESSO and CARMENES spectrographs. The host star is the quiet M5.5~V star GJ~1002 (relatively faint in the optical, $V \sim 13.8$ mag, but brighter in the infrared, $J \sim 8.3$ mag), located at 4.84 pc from the Sun. We analyse 139 spectroscopic observations taken between 2017 and 2021. We performed a joint analysis of the time series of the RV and full-width half maximum (FWHM) of the cross-correlation function (CCF) to model the planetary and stellar signals present in the data, applying Gaussian process regression to deal with the stellar activity. We detect the signal of two planets orbiting GJ~1002. GJ~1002~b is a planet with a minimum mass $m_p \sin i $ of 1.08 $\pm$ 0.13 M$_{\oplus}$ with an orbital period of 10.3465 $\pm$ 0.0027 days at a distance of 0.0457 $\pm$ 0.0013 au from its parent star, receiving an estimated stellar flux of 0.67 $F_{\oplus}$. GJ~1002 c is a planet with a minimum mass $m_p \sin i $ of 1.36 $\pm$ 0.17 M$_{\oplus}$ with an orbital period of 21.202 $\pm$ 0.013 days at a distance of 0.0738 $\pm$ 0.0021 au from its parent star, receiving an estimated stellar flux of 0.257 $F_{\oplus}$. We also detect the rotation signature of the star, with a period of 126 $\pm$ 15 days. GJ~1002 is one of the few known nearby systems with planets that could potentially host habitable environments. The closeness of the host star to the Sun makes the angular sizes of the orbits of both planets ($\sim$ 9.7 mas and $\sim$ 15.7 mas, respectively) large enough for their atmosphere to be studied via high-contrast high-resolution spectroscopy with instruments such as the future spectrograph ANDES for the ELT or the LIFE mission., Comment: 23 pages, 20 figures, 3 tables ; Replacement to fix some typos

We report on the high-resolution spectroscopic observations of two planetary transits of the hot Jupiter KELT-7b ($M_{\rm p}$ $=$ 1.28 $\pm$ 0.17 M$_{\rm Jup}$, $T_{\rm eq}$ $=$ 2028 K) observed with the High Optical Resolution Spectrograph (HORuS) mounted on the 10.4-m Gran Telescopio Canarias (GTC). A new set of stellar parameters are obtained for the rapidly rotating parent star from the analysis of the spectra. Using the newly derived stellar mass and radius, and the planetary transit data of the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) together with the HORuS velocities and the photometric and spectroscopic data available in the literature, we update and improve the ephemeris of KELT-7b. Our results indicate that KELT-7 has an angle $\lambda$ = $-$10.55 $\pm$ 0.27 deg between the sky projections of the star's spin axis and the planet's orbital axis. By combining this angle and our newly derived stellar rotation period of 1.38 $\pm$ 0.05 d, we obtained a 3D obliquity $\psi$ = 12.4 $\pm$ 11.7 deg (or 167.6 deg), thus reinforcing that KELT-7 is a well-aligned planetary system. We search for the presence of H$\alpha$, Li I, Na I, Mg I, and Ca II features in the transmission spectrum of KELT-7b but we are only able to determine upper limits of 0.08-1.4 % on their presence after accounting for the contribution of the stellar variability to the extracted planetary spectrum. We also discuss the impact of stellar variability in the planetary data. The Gl 486 system consists of a very nearby, relatively bright, weakly active M3.5 V star at just 8 pc with a warm transiting rocky planet of about 1.3 R_Terra and 3.0 M_Terra that is ideal for both transmission and emission spectroscopy and for testing interior models of telluric planets. To prepare for future studies, we collected light curves of seven new transits observed with the CHEOPS space mission and new radial velocities obtained with MAROON-X/Gemini North and CARMENES/Calar Alto telescopes, together with previously published spectroscopic and photometric data from the two spectrographs and TESS. We also performed interferometric observations with the CHARA Array and new photometric monitoring with a suite of smaller telescopes. From interferometry, we measure a limb-darkened disc angular size of the star Gl 486. Together with a corrected Gaia EDR3 parallax, we obtain a stellar radius. We also measure a stellar rotation period at P_rot ~ 49.9 d, an upper limit to its XUV (5-920 AA) flux with new Hubble/STIS data, and, for the first time, a variety of element abundances (Fe, Mg, Si, V, Sr, Zr, Rb) and C/O ratio. Besides, we impose restrictive constraints on the presence of additional components, either stellar or substellar, in the system. With the input stellar parameters and the radial-velocity and transit data, we determine the radius and mass of the planet Gl 486 b at R_p = 1.343+/0.063 R_Terra and M_p = 3.00+/-0.13 M_Terra. From the planet parameters and the stellar element abundances, we infer the most probable models of planet internal structure and composition, which are consistent with a relatively small metallic core with respect to the Earth, a deep silicate mantle, and a thin volatile upper layer. We present the complete Bayesian statistical analysis of the HArps-n red Dwarf Exoplanet Survey (HADES), which monitored the radial velocities of a large sample of M dwarfs with HARPS-N at TNG, over the last 6 years. The targets were selected in a narrow range of spectral types from M0 to M3, $0.3$ M$_\odot < M_\star < 0.71$ M$_\odot$, in order to study the planetary population around a well-defined class of host stars. We take advantage of Bayesian statistics to derive an accurate estimate of the detectability function of the survey. Our analysis also includes the application of Gaussian Process approach to take into account stellar activity induced radial velocity variations, and improve the detection limits, around the most-observed and most-active targets. The Markov chain Monte Carlo and Gaussian process technique we apply in this analysis has proven very effective in the study of M-dwarf planetary systems, helping the detection of most of the HADES planets. From the detectability function we can calculate the occurrence rate of small mass planets around early-M dwarfs, either taking into account only the 11 already published HADES planets or adding also the 5 new planetary candidates discovered in this analysis, and compare them with the previous estimates of planet occurrence around M-dwarf or Solar-type stars: considering only the confirmed planets, we find the highest frequency for low-mass planets ($1$ M$_\oplus < m_p \sin i < 10$ M$_\oplus$) with periods $10$ d$ < P < 100$ d, $f_\text{occ} = 85^{+5}_{-19}\%$, while for short-period planets ($1$ d$ < P < 10$ d) we find a frequency of $f_\text{occ} = 10.3^{+8.4}_{-3.3}\%$, significantly lower than for later-M dwarfs. Two transiting planet candidates with super-Earth radii around the nearby K7--M0 dwarf star TOI-1238 were announced by TESS. We aim to validate their planetary nature using precise radial velocities (RV) taken with the CARMENES spectrograph. We obtained 55 CARMENES RV data that span 11 months. For a better characterization of the parent star's activity, we also collected contemporaneous optical photometric observations and retrieved archival photometry from the literature. We performed a combined TESS+CARMENES photometric and spectroscopic analysis by including Gaussian processes and Keplerian orbits to account for the stellar activity and planetary signals simultaneously. We estimate that TOI-1238 has a rotation period of 40 $\pm$ 5 d based on photometric and spectroscopic data. The combined analysis confirms the discovery of two transiting planets, TOI-1238 b and c, with orbital periods of $0.764597^{+0.000013}_{-0.000011}$ d and $3.294736^{+0.000034}_{-0.000036}$ d, masses of 3.76$^{+1.15}_{-1.07}$ M$_{\oplus}$ and 8.32$^{+1.90}_{-1.88}$ M$_{\oplus}$, and radii of $1.21^{+0.11}_{-0.10}$ R$_{\oplus}$ and $2.11^{+0.14}_{-0.14}$ R$_{\oplus}$. They orbit their parent star at semimajor axes of 0.0137$\pm$0.0004 au and 0.036$\pm$0.001 au, respectively. The two planets are placed on opposite sides of the radius valley for M dwarfs and lie between the star and the inner border of TOI-1238's habitable zone. The inner super-Earth TOI-1238 b is one of the densest ultra-short-period planets ever discovered ($\rho=11.7^{+4.2}_{-3.4}$ g $\rm cm^{-3}$). The CARMENES data also reveal the presence of an outer, non-transiting, more massive companion with an orbital period and radial velocity amplitude of $\geq$600 d and $\geq$70 m s$^{-1}$, which implies a likely mass of $M \geq 2 \sqrt{1-e^2}$ M$_{\rm Jup}$ and a separation $\geq$1.1 au from its parent star.

Current theories of planetary evolution predict that infant giant planets have large radii and very low densities before they slowly contract to reach their final size after about several hundred million years. These theoretical expectations remain untested to date, despite the increasing number of exoplanetary discoveries, as the detection and characterisation of very young planets is extremely challenging due to the intense stellar activity of their host stars. However, the recent discoveries of young planetary transiting systems allow to place initial constraints on evolutionary models. With an estimated age of 20 million years, V1298\,Tau is one of the youngest solar-type stars known to host transiting planets: it harbours a multiple system composed of two Neptune-sized, one Saturn-sized, and one Jupiter-sized planets. Here we report the analysis of an intense radial velocity campaign, revealing the presence of two periodic signals compatible with the orbits of two of its planets. We find that planet b, with an orbital period of 24 days, has a mass of 0.64 Jupiter masses and a density similar to the giant planets of the Solar System and other known giant exoplanets with significantly older ages. Planet e, with an orbital period of 40 days, has a mass of 1.16 Jupiter masses and a density larger than most giant exoplanets. Context. It is now well-established that small, rocky planets are common around low-mass stars. However, the detection of such planets is challenged by the short-term activity of the host stars. Aims. The HArps-N red Dwarf Exoplanet Survey (HADES) program is a long-term project at the Telescopio Nazionale Galileo aimed at the monitoring of nearby, early-type, M dwarfs, using the HARPS-N spectrograph to search for small, rocky planets. Methods. A total of 174 HARPS-N spectroscopic observations of the M0.5V-type star GJ 9689 taken over the past seven years have been analysed. We combined these data with photometric measurements to disentangle signals related to the stellar activity of the star from possible Keplerian signals in the radial velocity data. We run an MCMC analysis, applying Gaussian Process regression techniques to model the signals present in the data. Results. We identify two periodic signals in the radial velocity time series, with periods of 18.27 d, and 39.31 d. The analysis of the activity indexes, photometric data, and wavelength dependency of the signals reveals that the 39.31 d signal corresponds to the stellar rotation period. On the other hand, the 18.27 d signal shows no relation to any activity proxy or the first harmonic of the rotation period. We, therefore, identify it as a genuine Keplerian signal. The best-fit model describing the newly found planet, GJ 9689 b, corresponds to an period P$_{\rm b}$ = 18.27 $\pm$ 0.01 d, and a minimum mass M$_{\rm P}\sin i$ = 9.65 $\pm$ 1.41 M$_{\oplus}$., Comment: Accepted by A&A

Context. The high number of super-Earth and Earth-like planets in the habitable zone (HZ) detected around M-dwarf stars in the last years has revealed these stellar objects to be the key for planetary radial velocity (RV) searches. Aims. Using the HARPS-N spectrograph within The HArps-n red Dwarf Exoplanet Survey (HADES) we reach the precision needed to detect small planets with a few Earth masses using the RV technique. Methods. We obtained 138 HARPS-N RV measurements between 2013 May and 2020 September of GJ 720 A, classified as an M0.5V star located at a distance of 15.56 pc. To characterize the stellar variability and to discern the periodic variation due to the Keplerian signals from those related to stellar activity, the HARPS-N spectroscopic activity indicators and the simultaneous photometric observations were analyzed. The combined analysis of HARPS-N RVs and activity indicators let us to address the nature of the periodic signals. The final model and the orbital planetary parameters were obtained by fitting simultaneously the stellar variability and the Keplerian signal using a Gaussian process regression and following a Bayesian criterion. Results. The HARPS-N RV periodic signals around 40 d and 100 d have counterparts at the same frequencies in HARPS-N activity indicators and photometric light curves. Then we attribute these periodicities to stellar activity the former period being likely associated with the stellar rotation. GJ 720 A shows the most significant signal at 19.466$\pm$0.005 d with no counterparts in any stellar activity indices. We hence ascribe this RV signal, having a semiamplitude of 4.72$\pm$0.27 m/s , to the presence of a sub-Neptune mass planet. The planet GJ 720 Ab has a minimum mass of 13.64$\pm$0.79 M$_{\oplus}$, it is in circular orbit at 0.119$\pm$0.002 AU from its parent star, and lies inside the inner boundary of the HZ around its parent star.

Dynamical histories of planetary systems, as well as atmospheric evolution of highly irradiated planets, can be studied by characterizing the ultra-short-period planet population, which the TESS mission is particularly well suited to discover. Here, we report on the follow-up of a transit signal detected in the TESS sector 19 photometric time series of the M3.0 V star TOI-1685 (2MASS J04342248+4302148). We confirm the planetary nature of the transit signal, which has a period of P_b=0.6691403+0.0000023-0.0000021 d, using precise radial velocity measurements taken with the CARMENES spectrograph. From the joint photometry and radial velocity analysis, we estimate the following parameters for TOI-1685 b: a mass of M_b=3.78+/-0.63 M_Earth, a radius of R_b=1.70+/-0.07 R_Earth, which together result in a bulk density of rho_b=4.21+0.95-0.82 g/cm3, and an equilibrium temperature of Teq_b=1069+/-16 K. TOI-1685 b is the least dense ultra-short period planet around an M dwarf known to date. TOI-1685 b is also one of the hottest transiting Earth-size planets with accurate dynamical mass measurements, which makes it a particularly attractive target for thermal emission spectroscopy. Additionally, we report a further non-transiting planet candidate in the system, TOI-1685[c], with an orbital period of P_[c]=9.02+0.10-0.12 d., Comment: 18 pages, 15 figures

M-dwarfs have proven to be ideal targets for planetary radial velocity (RV) searches due to their higher planet-star mass contrast. The HADES and CARMENES programs aim to carry out extensive searches of exoplanetary systems around this type of stars in the northern hemisphere, allowing us to address statistically the properties of the planets orbiting these objects. In this work, we perform a spectroscopic and photometric study of one of the program stars (GJ 740), which exhibits a short-period RV signal compatible with a planetary companion. We carried out a spectroscopic analysis based on 129 HARPS-N spectra taken over a time-span of 6 yr combined with 57 HARPS spectra taken over 4 yr, as well as 32 CARMENES spectra taken during more than 1 yr, resulting in a dataset with a time coverage of 10 yr. We also relied on 459 measurements from the public ASAS survey with a time-coverage of 8 yr along with 5 yr of photometric magnitudes from the EXORAP project taken in the $V$, $B$, $R$, and $I$ filters to carry out a photometric study. Both analyses were made using Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) simulations and Gaussian Process regression to model the activity of the star. We present the discovery of a short-period super-Earth with an orbital period of 2.37756$^{+0.00013}_{-0.00011}$ d and a minimum mass of 2.96$^{+0.50}_{-0.48}$ M$_{\oplus}$. We offer an update to the previously reported characterization of the magnetic cycle and rotation period of the star, obtaining values of $P_{\rm rot}$=35.563$\pm$0.071 d and $P_{\rm cycle}$=2800$\pm$150 d. Furthermore, the RV time-series exhibits a possibly periodic long-term signal which might be related to a Saturn-mass planet of $\sim$ 100 M$_{\oplus}$., Comment: 18 pages, 12 figures

Exoplanets orbiting very close to their host star are strongly irradiated. This can lead the upper atmospheric layers to expand and evaporate into space. The metastable helium (HeI) triplet at 1083.3nm has recently been shown to be a powerful diagnostic to probe extended and escaping exoplanetary atmosphere. We perform high-resolution transmission spectroscopy of the transiting hot Jupiter HD189733b with the GIARPS (GIANO-B + HARPS-N) observing mode of the Telescopio Nazionale Galileo, taking advantage of the simultaneous optical+near infrared spectral coverage to detect HeI in the planet's extended atmosphere and to gauge the impact of stellar magnetic activity on the planetary absorption signal. Observations were performed during five transit events of HD189733b. By comparison of the in- and out-of-transit GIANO-B observations we compute high-resolution transmission spectra, on which we perform equivalent width measurements and light-curves analyses to gauge the excess in-transit absorption in the HeI triplet. We detect an absorption signal during all five transits. The mean in-transit absorption depth amounts to 0.75+/-0.03%. We detect night-to-night variations in the HeI absorption signal likely due to the transit events occurring in presence of stellar surface inhomogeneities. We evaluate the impact of stellar-activity pseudo-signals on the true planetary absorption using a comparative analysis of the HeI and the H$\alpha$ lines. We interpret the time-series of the HeI absorption lines in the three nights not affected by stellar contamination -exhibiting a mean in-transit absorption depth of 0.77+/-0.04%- using a 3-d atmospheric code. Our simulations suggest that the helium layers only fill part of the Roche lobe. Observations can be explained with a thermosphere heated to $\sim$12000 K, expanding up to $\sim$1.2 planetary radii, and losing $\sim$1 g/s of metastable helium., Comment: 17 pages, 17 figures, accepted for publication in A&A

We report the confirmation of a transiting planet around the bright, inactive M0.5 V star TOI-1235 (TYC 4384-1735-1, V = 11.5 mag), whose transit signal was detected in the photometric time series of Sectors 14, 20, and 21 of the TESS space mission. We confirm the planetary nature of the transit signal, which has a period of 3.44 d, by using precise radial velocity measurements with CARMENES and HARPS-N spectrographs. A comparison of the properties derived for TOI-1235 b's with theoretical models reveals that the planet has a rocky composition, with a bulk density slightly higher than Earth's. In particular, we measure a mass of M_p = 5.9+/-0.6 M_Earth and a radius of R_p = 1.69+/-0.08 R_Earth, which together result in a density of rho_p = 6.7+1.3-1.1 g/cm3. When compared with other well-characterized exoplanetary systems, the particular combination of planetary radius and mass puts our discovery in the radius gap, a transition region between rocky planets and planets with significant atmospheric envelopes, with few known members. While the exact location of the radius gap for M dwarfs is still a matter of debate, our results constrain it to be located at around 1.7 R_Earth or larger at the insolation levels received by TOI-1235 b (~60 S_Earth), which makes it an extremely interesting object for further studies of planet formation and atmospheric evolution., Comment: A&A, in press

We report on radial velocity time series for two M0.0V stars, GJ338B and GJ338A, using the CARMENES spectrograph, complemented by ground-telescope photometry from Las Cumbres and Sierra Nevada observatories. We aim to explore the presence of small planets in tight orbits using the spectroscopic radial velocity technique. We obtained 159 and 70 radial velocity measurements of GJ338B and A, respectively, with the CARMENES visible channel. We also compiled additional relative radial velocity measurements from the literature and a collection of astrometric data that cover 200 a of observations to solve for the binary orbit. We found dynamical masses of 0.64$\pm$0.07M$_\odot$ for GJ338B and 0.69$\pm$0.07M$_\odot$ for GJ338A. The CARMENES radial velocity periodograms show significant peaks at 16.61$\pm$0.04 d (GJ338B) and 16.3$^{+3.5}_{-1.3}$ d (GJ338A), which have counterparts at the same frequencies in CARMENES activity indicators and photometric light curves. We attribute these to stellar rotation. GJ338B shows two additional, significant signals at 8.27$\pm$0.01 and 24.45$\pm$0.02 d, with no obvious counterparts in the stellar activity indices. The former is likely the first harmonic of the star's rotation, while we ascribe the latter to the existence of a super-Earth planet with a minimum mass of 10.27$^{+1.47}_{-1.38}$$M_{\oplus}$ orbiting GJ338B. GJ338B b lies inside the inner boundary of the habitable zone around its parent star. It is one of the least massive planets ever found around any member of stellar binaries. The existence of hot Jupiters is still not well understood. Two main channels are thought to be responsible for their current location: a smooth planet migration through the proto-planetary disk or the circularization of an initial high eccentric orbit by tidal dissipation leading to a strong decrease of the semimajor axis. Different formation scenarios result in different observable effects, such as orbital parameters (obliquity/eccentricity), or frequency of planets at different stellar ages. In the context of the GAPS Young-Objects project, we are carrying out a radial velocity survey with the aim to search and characterize young hot-Jupiter planets. Our purpose is to put constraints on evolutionary models and establish statistical properties, such as the frequency of these planets from a homogeneous sample. Since young stars are in general magnetically very active, we performed multi-band (visible and near-infrared) spectroscopy with simultaneous GIANO-B + HARPS-N (GIARPS) observing mode at TNG. This helps to deal with stellar activity and distinguish the nature of radial velocity variations: stellar activity will introduce a wavelength-dependent radial velocity amplitude, whereas a Keplerian signal is achromatic. As a pilot study, we present here the cases of two already claimed hot Jupiters orbiting young stars: HD285507 b and AD Leo b. Our analysis of simultaneous high-precision GIARPS spectroscopic data confirms the Keplerian nature of HD285507's radial velocities variation and refines the orbital parameters of the hot Jupiter, obtaining an eccentricity consistent with a circular orbit. On the other hand, our analysis does not confirm the signal previously attributed to a planet orbiting AD Leo. This demonstrates the power of the multi-band spectroscopic technique when observing active stars.

Statistical analyses from exoplanet surveys around low-mass stars indicate that super-Earth and Neptune-mass planets are more frequent than gas giants around such stars, in agreement with core accretion theory of planet formation. Using precise radial velocities derived from visual and near-infrared spectra, we report the discovery of a giant planet with a minimum mass of 0.46 Jupiter masses in an eccentric 204-day orbit around the very low-mass star GJ 3512. Dynamical models show that the high eccentricity of the orbit is most likely explained from planet-planet interactions. The reported planetary system challenges current formation theories and puts stringent constraints on the accretion and migration rates of planet formation and evolution models, indicating that disc instability may be more efficient in forming planets than previously thought., Comment: Manuscript author version. 41 pages, 11 figures

In the framework of the GAPS project, we observed the planet-hosting star KELT-9 (A-type star, VsinI$\sim$110 km/s) with the HARPS-N spectrograph at the TNG. In this work we analyse the spectra and the extracted radial velocities (RVs), to constrain the physical parameters of the system and to detect the planetary atmosphere of KELT-9b. We extracted from the high-resolution optical spectra the mean stellar line profiles with an analysis based on the Least Square Deconvolution technique. Then, we computed the stellar RVs with a method optimized for fast rotators, by fitting the mean stellar line profile with a purely rotational profile instead of using a Gaussian function. The new spectra and analysis led us to update the orbital and physical parameters of the system, improving in particular the value of the planetary mass to $M_{\rm p}=2.88\pm0.35\,M_{\rm Jup}$. We discovered an anomalous in-transit RV deviation from the theoretical Rossiter-McLaughlin effect solution, calculated from the projected spin-orbit angle $\lambda=-85.78\pm0.46$ degrees measured with Doppler tomography. We prove that this deviation is caused by the planetary atmosphere of KELT-9b, thus we name this effect Atmospheric Rossiter-McLaughlin effect. By analysing the magnitude of the RV anomaly, we obtained information on the extension of the planetary atmosphere as weighted by the model used to retrieve the stellar mean line profiles, which is up to $1.22\pm0.02\,R_{\rm p}$. The Atmospheric Rossiter-McLaughlin effect will be observable for other exoplanets whose atmosphere has non-negligible correlation with the stellar mask used to retrieve the RVs, in particular ultra-hot Jupiters with iron in their atmosphere. Context. Teegarden's Star is the brightest and one of the nearest ultra-cool dwarfs in the solar neighbourhood. For its late spectral type (M7.0V), the star shows relatively little activity and is a prime target for near-infrared radial velocity surveys such as CARMENES. Aims. As part of the CARMENES search for exoplanets around M dwarfs, we obtained more than 200 radial-velocity measurements of Teegarden's Star and analysed them for planetary signals. Methods. We find periodic variability in the radial velocities of Teegarden's Star. We also studied photometric measurements to rule out stellar brightness variations mimicking planetary signals. Results. We find evidence for two planet candidates, each with $1.1M_\oplus$ minimum mass, orbiting at periods of 4.91 and 11.4 d, respectively. No evidence for planetary transits could be found in archival and follow-up photometry. Small photometric variability is suggestive of slow rotation and old age. Conclusions. We present a numeric-computational procedure to deal with the intricate bandmixing phenomenology in the framework of the quadratic eigenvalue problem (QEP), which is derived from a physical system described by N-coupled components Sturm-Liouville matrix boundary-equation. The modeling retrieves the generalized Schur decomposition and the root-locus-like techniques to describe the dynamics of heavy holes (hh), light holes (lh) and spin-split holes (sh) in layered semiconductor heterostructures. By exercising the extended (N = 6) Kohn L\"uttinger model, our approach successfully overcomes the medium-intensity regime for quasi-particle coupling of previous theoretical studies. As a bonus, the sufficient conditions for a generalized QEP have been refined. The sh-related off -diagonal elements in the QEP mass-matrix, becomes a competitor of the bandmixing parameter, leading the hh-sh and lh-sh spectral distribution to change, then they can not be disregarded or zeroed, as was assumed in previous theoretical studies. Thereby, we unambiguously predict that several of the new features detected for hh-lh-sh spectral properties and propagating modes, become directly influenced by the metamorphosis of the effective band-offset scattering profile due sub-bandmixing effects strongly modulated with the assistance of sh, even at low-intensity mixing regime., Comment: 19 pages, 9 figures. Aims. We aim to extend the relationship between X-ray luminosity (Lx) and rotation period (Prot) found for main-sequence FGK stars and test whether it also holds for early-M dwarfs, especially in the non-saturated regime (Lx {\alpha} P_{rot}^{-2}) which corresponds to slow rotators. Methods. We use the luminosity coronal activity indicator (Lx) of a sample of 78 early-M dwarfs with masses in the range from 0.3 to 0.75 Msun from the HArps-N red Dwarf Exoplanet Survey (HADES) radial velocity (RV) programme collected from ROSAT and XMM-Newton. The determination of the rotation periods (P_{rot}) was done by analysing time-series of high-resolution spectroscopy of the Ca ii H & K and H{\alpha} activity indicators. Our sample principally covers the slow rotation regime with rotation periods from 15 to 60 days. Results. Our work extends to the low mass regime the observed trend for more massive stars showing a continuous shift of the Lx/Lbol vs. Prot power-law towards longer rotation period values and includes the determination, in a more accurate way, of the value of the rotation period at which the saturation occurs (P_{sat}) for M dwarf stars. Conclusions. We conclude that the relations between coronal activity and stellar rotation for FGK stars also hold for early-M dwarfs in the non-saturated regime, indicating that the rotation period is sufficient to determine the ratio Lx/Lbol.

Statistical studies of exoplanets have shown that giant planets are more commonly hosted by metal-rich dwarf stars than low-metallicity ones, while such a correlation is not evident for lower-mass planets. The search for giant planets around metal-poor stars and the estimate of their occurrence $f_p$ is an important element in providing support to models of planet formation. We present results from the HARPS-N search for giant planets orbiting metal-poor ($-1.0\leq[Fe/H]\leq-0.5$ dex) stars in the northern hemisphere complementing a previous HARPS survey on southern stars in order to update the estimate of $f_p$. High-precision HARPS-N observations of 42 metal-poor stars are used to search for planetary signals to be fitted using differential evolution MCMC single-Keplerian models. We then join our detections to the results of the previous HARPS survey on 88 metal-poor stars to provide a preliminar estimate of the two-hemisphere $f_p$. We report the detection of two new giant planets around HD 220197 and HD 233832. The first companion has M$\sin{i}=0.20_{-0.04}^{+0.07}$ M$_{\rm Jup}$ and orbital period of $1728_{-80}^{+162}$ days, and for the second companion we find two solutions of equal statistical weight having periods $2058_{-40}^{+47}$ and $4047_{-117}^{+91}$ days and minimum masses of $1.78_{-0.06}^{+0.08}$ and $2.72_{-0.23}^{+0.23}$ M$_{\rm Jup}$, respectively. Joining our two detections with the three from the southern survey we obtain a preliminary and conservative estimate of global frequency of $f_p=3.84_{-1.06}^{+2.45}\%$ for giant planets around metal-poor stars. The two new giant planets orbit dwarf stars at the metal-rich end of the HARPS-N metal-poor sample, corroborating previous results suggesting that giant planet frequency still is a rising function of host star [Fe/H].
