Introduction: Depending on the disease’s stage, type 2 diabetes can impact anxiety, depression, and health-related quality of life. This study aimed to compare the health-related quality of life, anxiety, and depression of men and women recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes to that of healthy controls. Methods: There were 100 newly diagnosed type 2 diabetic patients (50 females and 50 males), as well as 100 healthy controls (50 females and 50 males). Each participant receives three questionnaires: the Short-Form Health Survey (SF-36), the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), and the Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI). Results: Compared to controls, patients’ scores on the SF-36 for total, physical, and mental health were lower for both genders. Compared to controls, the female patients’ BAI and BDI scores were greater. Both male and female diabetes patients had a negative correlation between their SF-36 total score and fasting plasma glucose. Additionally, the female patients’ fasting plasma glucose and BDI score showed a positive correlation. Conclusions: In both genders, patients with recently diagnosed type 2 diabetes had a lower health-related quality of life compared to controls. However, the anxiety and depression levels of only female diabetic patients worsened when compared to controls. We suggest considering gender differences in the symptomatology of anxiety and depression among newly diagnosed type 2 diabetic patients to develop more effective ways to manage their condition, such as comprehensive and early intervention.

The intersection of personal experiences, political contexts, and feminist activism are explored in this qualitative study of Polish migrant women activists. Informed by the author's own personal solidarity story and connections with the Polish activist community abroad, the study examines the emotions and affective dimensions of activism amidst the political uncertainties that preceded the October 2023 elections in Poland. Grounded in Claire Hemmings' (2012) concept of affective dissonance, the analysis explores how emotions propel political transformation and shape activist identities. In-depth interviews reveal the enduring presence of feminist identity among Polish migrant women activists and their persistent feminist activism and identity, despite the challenges and transitions they have experienced, such as migration. By acknowledging subjectivity and positionality, the research underscores the importance of understanding the emotional dimensions of activism and the role of affective solidarity in driving collective action (Hemmings 2012; Ahmed 2015). The study contributes to the broader discourse on feminist activism, migration, and affective politics, offering insights into the lived experiences and emotional landscapes of Polish migrant women activists.

Face and emotion recognition are crucial components of social cognition. We aimed to compare them in patients diagnosed with schizophrenia (SCZ), ultra-high risk for psychosis (UHR), unaffected siblings of schizophrenia patients (SIB), and healthy controls (HC). Methods: One hundred sixty-six participants (45 SCZ, 14 UHR, 45 SIB, and 62 HC) were interviewed with the Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-5 (SCID-5). Positive and Negative syndrome scale (PANSS), PennCNB Facial Memory (CPF), and Emotion Recognition Task (ER40) were applied. Results: In CPF, SCZ performed significantly lower than SIB and HC. SIB was also significantly lower than HC for total correct responses. The sample size of the UHR group was small, and the statistical comparisons did not reach a significance, however, a trend towards decreased performance between the SCZ and SIB was found. In ER40, SCZ performed significantly lower than HC and SIB in all domains, except for the insignificant findings for angry ER between SIB and SCZ. SIB also performed significantly lower than HC for angry, negative, and total ER. UHR was similar to SCZ for happy and sad ER and performed significantly lower than HC for happy ER. The effect of SCZ diagnosis on the efficiency of CPF and ER40 was significant when corrected for age and education. For SCZ, PANSS also significantly affected the CPF and ER40. Conclusion: Our findings suggest varying levels of face and emotion recognition deficits in individuals with SCZ, UHR, and SIB. Face and emotion recognition deficits are promising schizophrenia endophenotypes related to social cognition.

The safety of sea bass is critical for the global food trade. This study evaluated the effectiveness of atmospheric cold plasma in reducing food safety risks posed by Salmonella Enteritidis and Listeria monocytogenes, which can contaminate sea bass post harvest. Cold plasma was applied to inoculated sea bass for 2 to 18 min, achieving a maximum reduction of 1.43 log CFU/g for S. Enteritidis and 0.80 log CFU/g for L. monocytogenes at 18 min. Longer treatments resulted in greater reductions; however, odor and taste quality declined to a below average quality in samples treated for 12 min or longer. Plasma treatment did not significantly alter the color, texture, or water activity (aw) of the fish. Higher levels of thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARSs) were observed with increased exposure times. Cold plasma was also tested in vitro on S. Enteritidis and L. monocytogenes on agar surfaces. A 4 min treatment eliminated the initial loads of S. Enteritidis (2.71 log CFU) and L. monocytogenes (2.98 log CFU). The findings highlight the potential of cold plasma in enhancing the safety of naturally contaminated fish. Cold plasma represents a promising technology for improving food safety in the global fish trade and continues to be a significant area of research in food science.

On the grounds that assessment stands for a mirror of teaching and learning practices, its value cannot be ignored in teaching English as a Foreign Language (EFL) programmes as all those involved in foreign language teaching in non-native settings need constant feedback about the effectiveness of their ventures. Assessment of young learners of English has been also receiving rising attention as this group of language learners at the preliminary stages of learning a foreign language differ from adult learners in nature and thereby their assessment requires great care. While there exist continuous amendments in foreign language teaching policies nationally to improve the quality of EFL teaching and its assessment, it is significant to look inside the classrooms to realize whether the actual assessment practices reflect the performance outcomes expected by the policy documents. This paper, therefore, attempts to investigate the consistency between the ELT policy and EFL teachers' in-class practices of assessment of young learners in middle schools in the Turkish context. The study was conducted at the end of the spring term of 2017-2018 academic year with 152 EFL teachers working in middle schools in the central districts of Denizli province. The study employed both quantitative and qualitative research methods: the quantitative method provided information about EFL teachers' preferences of item types in terms of traditional and alternative assessment types with the help of a questionnaire while the qualitative method provided information about how frequently EFL teachers assessed four skills through exam papers they used in their classrooms. Results showed inconsistency between the policy and assessment practices of EFL teachers in the study: EFL teachers tended to design traditional paper and pencil tests based on language structures and vocabulary rather than the assessment of learners' communicative competence or language skills through alternative assessment methods.

Purpose: This study aims to investigate the effect of 4 different scanning protocols offered by the VistaScan Mini Easy scanner on image quality at different exposure times. Materials amp; Methods: Four number size-2 photostimulable phosphor plates were exposed with 5 different exposure times while keeping other parameters constant. The exposed plates were scanned without delay using 4 different scanning protocols. 10 lp/mm, 20 lp/mm, 25 lp/mm, and 40 lp/mm are offered by the VistaScan Mini Easy scanner. The mean gray value was calculated using the ImageJ program by identifying three non-overlapping regions of interest from the background and each step in the obtained images. The mean of all mean gray values determined for the background and steps on a plate was also considered the mean gray value of that plate. Results: When plate mean gray values at 0.20 s and 0.40 s were examined, a statistically significant difference was observed between the scanning protocols (p lt;0.001, p=0.001 respectively). It was determined that the plate mean gray value at 40 lp/mm in 0.20 s was lower than that of other scanning protocols. The plate mean gray value at 20 lp/mm in 0.20 s was higher than that at 25 lp/mm. It was determined that the plate mean gray value at 10 lp/mm in 0.40 s was lower than that of the other groups. Conclusion: The effect of spatial resolution on diagnostics in digital imaging per se is a subject under investigation and still not agreed upon. Therefore, more studies on spatial resolution are needed.

Aim: Cemento-osseous dysplasia (COD) is usually asymptomatic and slowly progressive benign fibro-osseous lesion characterized by the replacement of normal bone with fibrous tissue. The aim of this presentation is to evaluate the clinical and radiographical findings of six COD cases that were detected incidentally during radiographic examination. Case Report: Six female patients who four (%66) of them with different dental complaints and two (%33) of them for routine control examination of the previously diagnosed COD with a mean age of 38 applied to our clinic. It was learned that the patients did not have any systemic disorders in their medical anamnesis. There is not any finding on extraoral examination. In intraoral examination, teeth associated with COD lesions were vital as a result of the electric pulp test, and there is no other finding related to the lesion. In the radiography examination, different sizes radiolucent, mixed, and radiopaque lesions were detected in the mandible on control panoramic radiographs. The lesions were examined in detail with cone-beam computed tomography. Local thinning and resorption were observed in the buccal and lingual cortical bone in the relevant region. Histopathological examination revealed that the lesions were definitively diagnosed as SOD in four patients. Based on clinical, radiographic, and histopathological examinations, three (%50) of the lesions were diagnosed as periapical COD and the others (%50) were diagnosed with fluoride COD. All patients were followed up periodically for six months. Conclusion: The findings of this case series showed that all lesions examined were clinically asymptomatic and mixed on radiography. Due to insufficient vascular support of the bone in the COD area, there is a risk of infection and osteomyelitis may occur. Therefore, dentists should be aware of the clinical and radiographic features of COD in clinical practice and follow the patients periodically.

Objective: To investigate the systemic immune‐inflammation index (SII) and neutrophil‐to‐lymphocyte ratio (NLR) in predicting a successful methotrexate response in tubal ectopic pregnancy (TEP). Methods: Women treated for TEP at a tertiary hospital between 2017 and 2021 were retrospectively reviewed. A total of 502 (100%) eligible patients who received methotrexate were included and divided into two groups based on whether or not they were successfully treated with methotrexate alone. Inflammatory parameters derived from the patients' hemograms at hospital admission were compared. Results: In total, 434 (86.4%) patients were successfully treated with methotrexate alone (Group 1), while 68 (13.6%) patients underwent surgery after methotrexate failure (Group 2). Median neutrophil count, NLR, platelet‐to‐lymphocyte ratio, monocyte‐to‐lymphocyte ratio, SII, largest ectopic mass diameter, and β‐human chorionic gonadotropin (β‐hCG) were significantly lower, whereas median lymphocyte and platelet counts were significantly higher in Group 1. According to the receiver operating characteristic analysis performed for the discriminatory power of NLR, β‐hCG, and SII for methotrexate response, the area under the curve values were 0.742, 0.730, and 0.699, respectively. Conclusion: Low NLR and SII are associated with methotrexate success and could be used to refine decision making regarding β‐hCG for predicting successful response to methotrexate in patients with TEP. In the context of integrating the 2020 Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business International (AACSB) revised standards on societal impact and the United Nations Development Goals (UN SDGs), this paper provides a detailed guide for developing and implementing four societal impact projects showcasing the design, implementation, student engagement, and impact aspects of these projects through the framework of community-engaged learning. The authors share their combined experiences designing and implementing a variety of marketing courses with the hope of guiding and encouraging marketing instructors to educate the next generation of business leaders in a manner that will contribute to a positive societal impact. The authors conclude with a discussion of the inherent challenges of such societal impact projects and suggestions for addressing several challenges so that business schools and marketing departments can succeed in making the paradigm shift necessary to shift to a societal well-being mind-set. This study examined the potential mediating roles of relationship satisfaction and dual-career lifestyle satisfaction in the association between investments and commitment to a relationship. The participants comprise 213 Turkish dual-career married couples (N = 426) between the ages of 19–60, who have been married for at least seven months. Two models were proposed, and the Actor-Partner Interdependence Mediation Model (APIMeM) was conducted to test these models. The results revealed that the associations of both past and planned intangible investments to commitment were partially mediated through relationship satisfaction for both wives and husbands. This study provided support for the dyadic nature of the association between intangible investments and commitment via relationship satisfaction in Turkish dual-career married couples and discussed the findings in relation to the relevant literature. AbstractThis study was to investigate the mediating role of common dyadic coping in the relationship between partners’ psychological distress symptoms and sense of we-ness in a sample of 100 married couples. The Actor–Partner Interdependence Mediation Model revealed that psychological distress was negatively associated with common dyadic coping for wives and husbands. Additionally, significant results were found between common dyadic coping and sense of we-ness in couples living in Türkiye. Results indicated that wives’ common dyadic coping mediated the association between wives’ psychological distress and sense of we-ness. Aim: Reactive hyperplasias are often encountered tumor-like exophytic lesions of the oral mucosa, but they are not a neoplasm. Local factors such as dental calculus, food residue stuck between teeth, incompatible prosthetic restoration, and systemic factors such as hormonal changes play a role in the etiology of these hyperplasia. The aim of this presentation is to evaluate the possible etiological factors, clinical, and radiological findings of 10 reactive hyperplasia cases seen in different regions of the mouth. Case report: Ten patients (seven females and three males) with a mean age 40.2 applied to our clinic with complaints of swelling in the mouth. In the medical anamnesis, it was learned that three (30%) patients had recently given birth and the related swelling started to occur in the second trimester of pregnancy, three (30%) patients had different diseases such as heart, hypertension, diabetes, and cholesterol, and were under regular medication for systemic disease. There is no finding on extraoral examination. In intraoral examination, mass lesions which red and/or pink, lobular/nodular, painless, pedunculated and/or sessile, and smooth and/or ulcerated was seen on the maxilla of six patients, mandible of three patients, and lower lip mucosa of one patient. Poor oral hygiene in seven (70%) patients, prosthetic restoration in the lesion-related area in two (20%) patients, and attrition incisal tooth surface and diastema in one (10%) patient were found. Radiographic examination revealed that minimal resorption on the alveolar crest in the lesion-related area of only three (30%) patients was seen. All lesions were histopathologically examined after surgical excision. According to the clinic, radiographic and histopathological features, diagnosis of the lesions was made as pyogenic granuloma (four cases; 40%), peripheral ossifying fibroma (three cases; 30%), traumatic fibroma (two cases; 20%) and peripheral giant cell granuloma (one case; 10%). Conclusion: It was concluded that the lesions examined in this case series were mostly caused by local factors. The clinical findings observed in the patients were red nodular mass, painless, soft, and smooth-surfaced. In the radiographic examination, no finding was detected in most of the lesions.

Since frozen ready-to-eat seafood has the potential to cause food poisoning, this study focuses on microorganisms that have the potential to be a health hazard found in frozen ready-to-eat seafood, whichissoldtohighlypopulouscommunities.Therefore,themostpopularfrozenready-to-eat seafood, fish balls and surimi crab legs, from Istanbul market were studied. Samples were gathered from seven different branches of four major chain market brands, twice in winter (October-March) and twice in summer (April-September). As a result of seasonal conditions summer samples had highermicrobialloadscomparedtowintersamples.Theaveragemesophilicandpsychrophilic aerobic bacteria counts of fish balls and surimi crab legs were below ≤4 log cfu/g. All samples were safe in terms of Salmonella, Vibrio parahaemolyticus and Vibrio cholerae; and acceptable in terms of Staphylococcus aureus Clostridium perfringens, and Bacillus cereus. The microbiological load of fish balls was higher (p lt;0.05) than the other samples. It was observed that more than 80% of them are risky in terms of coliform bacteria. It is concluded that attention should be paid especially to minced and spice added products. It is essential to pay more attention to the marketing of ready-to-eat seafood during the summer seasons for the prevention of public health.

Salmon is usually sold in slices on ice in retail markets. Since ice is in direct contact with fish, it af-fects the sensory characteristics as well as the physicochemical properties. Improving the proper-tiesoficecanmakepositivecontributionstofishflavorandconsumerpreference.Inthisstudy,slicedsalmonsweretreatedwithicecontainingoneofeitherbasil(B),rosemary(R),laurel(L),oregano (O) or fennel (F) extracts. Iced salmon without any plant extract was the control (C) group. Displaying sliced fish for sale on ice and placing back to cold room at the end of the day is a com-mon practice. Samples were covered with ice, stored at 18±1°C during daytime and taken to the cold room (2±1°C) at night to simulate marketing conditions. Adding plant extracts to ice resulted in a remarkable change in fish flavor, and R, F, and L were the most popular treatments among all groups.Inparticular,rosemary-addedicesignificantly(P lt;0.05)increasedthepreferenceofcon-sumption.PanelistsemphasizedthatFsamplescanbeconsumedasappetizers.DominantandpleasantaromawasalsostatedforLsamples.Themesophilicaerobicbacteriacountremainedbelow 5 log CFU/g in all samples during 4 days. The total volatile basic nitrogen (TVB-N), thiobar-bituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) and pH values of all groups remained within the limits of acceptability. Using plant extract-added-ice provided a suitable quality sale of salmon for 4 days and offered an option to consumers by giving the product different flavors.

The concept of "healing" is defined as a restorative/transformative recovery process that results in a positive change in the management practices of organizations, employees finding more meaning in the work they do, and the realization of themselves as a whole by organizational employees at all levels, has gained popularity in recent years. attracts the attention of researchers. In this study, qualitative field research is conducted to find out the healing organization practices of the companies. Structured interviews are conducted with 12 white color employees. Three questions that are asked to the participants aimed to be the research question of this study. Participants were asked what organizational practices contribute to their physical, financial, social, psychological, intellectual, and professional well-being and what contributions these practices have for the employee and the organization. As a result of the content analysis of the collected data, healing organizational practices were compiled under two themes. Organizational practices that contribute to personal development and occupational development. It has been found that organizational practices that support personal and professional development have positive contributions such as employees' organizational citizenship behaviors, organizational commitment, work/ life satisfaction, and sense of meaningfulness about work. Since this study is the first qualitative research on "healing organizations" in the national literature, it is believed that the results of the research will guide both researchers working on the topic and managers who have a decisive role in worklife. In this paper, we aim to develop a better understanding of the types of tensions that might arise within a market system and the types of strategies market actors adopt to form and sustain a marketing system. We explore how marketing systems can be sustained albeit the tensions amongst logics that underlie the social matrix framework posited by Layton. We set forth to answer the question: how can market actors navigate tensions amongst logics toward managing the specific elements within the social matrix of a marketing system? We use institutional theory to answer our research question and investigate the tensions that arise within an eco-village. We conceptualize ecovillage as a marketing system that involves a network of individuals working together toward creating a sustainable community.
