Amaç: Kliniğimizde tek taraflı kanalikül kesisi tamiri yapılan hastalarda anatomik ve fonksiyonel başarı oranlarını değerlendirmek.Gereç ve Yöntem: Kliniğimizde Eylül 2013 ile 31 Mart 2017 tarihleri arasında kanalikül kesisi tamiri ameliyatı uygulanan hastaların anatomik ve fonksiyonel başarı sonuçları retrospektif olarak değerlendirildi.Bulgular: Çalışmaya 42 hasta dahil edildi. Hastaların 31’i erkek, 11’i kadın idi. Ortalama yaş 14,7±2,6 (1-68) yıl idi. Travmaların %43’üdirekt mekanizma, %57’si indirekt mekanizma ile oluşmuştu. Alt kanalikül %69, üst kanalikül %26,2, bikanalikül %4,8 oranında tutulmuştu.Travma-cerrahi süresi ortalama 13,6±1,1 (4-30) saat idi. Uygulanan silikon tüpün canlı dokuda kalma süresi ortalama 156±6,8 (20-240) günolarak saptanmış, ortalama ameliyat sonrası takip süresi ise 15,5±1,5 (6-39) ay olarak saptanmıştır. Olguların %95,2’sine genel anestezi altında, %4.8’ine lokal anestezi altında ameliyat uygulandı. Olguların %59,5’ine pig tail probu ile anuler silikon tüp entübasyonu, %31’ine minimonoka implantasyonu, %9,5’ine bikanaliküler nazal silikon tüp entübasyonu uygulandı. Olguların %90,5’inde anatomik başarı sağlanırken,%85,7’sinde fonksiyonel başarı sağlandı. Olguların 32’sinde ameliyat sonrası komplikasyon izlenmezken, 10 olguda ameliyat sonrası çeşitlikomplikasyonlar izlenmiş ve bunların 2’sine ek cerrahi işlem uygulanmıştır.Sonuç: Anatomik ve fonksiyonel başarı açısından cerrahi gruplar değerlendirildiğinde anular silikon tüp entübasyonu ve minimonoka implant uygulanmış olan gruplarda benzer başarı oranları saptanırken, bikanaliküler nazal silikon tüp entübasyonu uygulanan grupta başarı yüzdesi diğer gruplardan daha düşük izlendi fakat bu fark istatiksel olarak anlamlı değildi. Bu farkın istatistiksel olarak ispatlanabilmesi için daha fazla olgu sayısı içeren çalışmalara ihtiyaç vardır. Objective: To evaluate the functional and the anatomical success in patients who were underwent unilateral traumatic canalicule laceration reparation surgery. Material and Method: Patients who underwent unilateral traumatic canalicule laceration repair surgery in our clinic between September 2013 and March 2017 were included. Patient’s postoperative anatomical and functional results were retrospectively evaluated. Results: Forty two patients (31 male, 11 female) were included. The mean age was 14.7±2.6 (range 1-68) years. Indirect-avulsive injury was observed in 57% and direct-penetran injury in 43%. Inferior canalicules were injured in 69%, superior canalicule 26.2% and both canalicules in 4.8%. The average duration of surgeries was 13.6±1.1 (4-30) hours. The average follow up time was 15.52±1.5 (6-36) months. Surgery was performed under general anesthesia in 95.2% of patients, and under local anesthesia in 4.8%. In 59.5% of patients annular silicon tube intubation procedure, in 31% minimonoka stenting and in 14.3% bicanalicular nasal intubation procedure were performed. Anatomic success was achieved in 90.2% of the cases and functional success in 85.7%. In 10 patients postoperative complications were observed and additional surgery were applied to 2 of them. Conclusion: When anatomical and functional success rates were evaluated, similar results were found in anular silicone tube intubation and Mini Monoka implant groups. Whereas bicanalicular nasal silicone tube intubation group’s success rates were lower than the other groups but the differences were not statistically significant. Larger group of casses are required to reach statistically significant difference.

Aşırı prematürite 28 hafta altında doğan bebekleri tanımlamaktadır. Son yıllarda yenidoğan yoğun bakım hizmetlerinde iyileşmeler nedeniyle aşırı düşük doğum haftası ve doğum ağırlığına sahip aşırı prematüre bebeklerin hayatta kalma oranlarında artış gerçekleşmiştir. Buna bağlı olarak prematüre retinopatili olgu sayısında artış gözlenmektedir. Ayrıca, tedavi gereken prematüre retinopatisi sıklığı aşırı prematüre bebeklerde oldukça yüksek oranda saptanmıştır. Bu makalede aşırı prematüre bebeklerde PR insidansı, risk faktörleri, muayenedeki klinik özellikler ve tedavi yaklaşımı irdelenmiştir. Extreme prematurity describes infants born under 28 weeks. In recent years, there has been an increase in the survival rate of extreme premature infants with extremely gestational age week and birth weight due to improvements in neonatal intensive care services. As a result, an increase in the number of cases with retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) is observed. Moreover, the frequency of the ROP treatment was extremely high in preterm infants with a gestational age less than 28 weeks. In this article, the incidence of ROP, risk factors, clinical features and treatment approach were reviewed in extremely premature infants.

Amaç: Bu çalışmanın amacı, farklı kısmi dişsizlik tiplerinin belirlenmesi ve bu dişsizliklerin protetik tedavi seçeneklerinin incelenmesidir.Gereç ve Yöntem: Yeditepe Üniversitesi Dişhekimliği Fakültesi Protetik Diş Tedavisi Anabilim Dalı'nda, dijital kayıt sistemi incelenerek retrospektif bir değerlendirme yapıldı. Hastalar kayıt sisteminden randomize olarak seçildi ve çalışmaya şu kriterlere göre dahil edildi; en az bir çenesinde kısmi dişsizliğe sahip olmak, panoramik radyografi çektirmiş olmak, protetik tedavisi tamamlanmış ya da tedavi yaptırmadan ayrılmış olmak. Hastaların yaşı, cinsiyeti, kısmi dişsizlik (Kennedy) sınıflaması ve tedavi seçenekleri kaydedildi. Elde edilen verilerin istatistiksel analizinde tanımlayıcı yöntemler ve Ki-Kare testi kullanıldı. Anlamlılık p 0,05 düzeyinde değerlendirildi.Bulgular: Çalışmaya yaş ortalaması 50,88 14,09 olan 345 hasta (147 erkek, 198 kadın) dahil edildi. Kennedy III dişsizliğin, üst çenede (%71,1) ve alt çenede (%55,9) en sık görülen dişsizlik tipi olduğu belirlendi. Kısmi dişsizliğin üst çenede (%57,9) ve alt çenede (%41,7) sıklıkla sabit protezlerle tedavi edildiği gözlendi. Hastaların yalnızca %13-14'üne implant tedavisi uygulandı.Sonuç: Dental implantlar, kısmi dişsizlikte en az tercih edilen tedavi seçeneğiydi. Sabit protezler Kennedy III ve IV için en yaygın tedavi yöntemi iken, hareketli bölümlü protezler Kennedy I ve II için en yaygın tedavi seçeneğiydi. Aim: The purpose of this study was to determine the prevalence of various types of partial edentulism, and type of prosthetic restorations most commonly chosen to treat the patients.Materials and Methods: A retrospective evaluation was conducted in Department of Prosthodontics, Dental School of Yeditepe, Turkey, by examining the digital record system of the faculty. The patients were selected randomized and the inclusion criteria were; patients who had partial edentulism at least on their one jaw, who had panoramic radiographs, whose treatment had been finished, and who had no treatment. Age, gender, Kennedy classification and treatment options were recorded. Descriptive statistical methods and Chisquare test were used to analyze data. An alpha level of 0.05 was used for all statistical analyses.Results: There were 345 patients (147 males, 198 females) with the mean age of 50.88±14.09 years. Kennedy III was the most common in the maxilla (71.1%) and in the mandible (55.9%). Partial edentulism was most frequently managed by fixed partial dentures in the maxilla (57.9%) and in the mandible (41.7%). Implant treatment was applied to 13-14% of the patients. Conclusions: Dental implants were the least common treatment option for partial edentulism. Fixed partial dentures were the most common treatment for Kennedy III and IV, whereas removable partial dentures were the most common for Kennedy I and II.

Amaç: Bu çalışmanın amacı, Türk toplumundaki farklı dental implant üstü protetik restorasyon sıklığı ve tiplerinin incelenmesidir.Gereç ve Yöntem: Yeditepe Üniversitesi Dişhekimliği Fakültesi Protetik Diş Tedavisi Anabilim Dalı'nda, dijital kayıt sistemi incelenerek retrospektif bir değerlendirme yapıldı. Hastaların yaşı, cinsiyeti, dişsiz ve implant uygulanmış bölgeleri, yerine konan eksik diş sayısı ve restorasyon tipi kaydedildi. Elde edilen verilerin istatistiksel analizinde tanımlayıcı yöntemler ve Ki-Kare testi kullanıldı. Anlamlılık p 0,05 düzeyinde değerlendirildi.Bulgular: Çalışmaya toplamda 368 hastaya ait ve 116 hastanın (%31,5) üst çenesine, 179 hastanın (%48,6) alt çenesine ve 73 hastanın (%19,8) hem alt hem üst çenesine yerleştirilen toplam 1143 adet implant dahil edilmiştir. İmplantlar 58 hastada anterior bölgeye (%15,8), 245 hastada posterior bölgeye (%66,6) ve 65 hastada hem anterior hem de posterior bölgeye (%17,7) yerleştirilmiştir. 209 hastanın (%56,8) tek üyeli sabit protez (S-FPDs), 83 hastanın (%22,6) çok üyeli sabit protez (M-FPDs), 44 hastanın (%12) hem S-FPDs hem de M-FPDs ile tedavi edildiği gözlenmiştir. 32 hastada (%8,7) overdenture protez varlığı tespit edilmiştir.Sonuç: Dental implantlarla tedavi edilen hastaların büyük çoğunluğunda protetik restorasyon tipi olarak tek üyeli sabit protez tercih edilmiştir. İmplant kullanılarak en sık tedavi edilen alanlar alt çene ve posterior bölgelerdir. Aim: The aim of this study was to evalute the prevalence of different prosthetic restoration types of dental implants in a Turkish subpopulation.Materials and Methods: A retrospective evaluation was conducted by examining the digital patient record system of the faculty. Age, gender, edentulism, implant sites, replaced tooth numbers and restoration types were recorded. Descriptive statistical methods and Chi-square test were used to analyze data. An alpha level of 0.05 was used for all statistical analyses.Results: There were 368 patients with 1143 implants which were placed to maxilla in 116 patients (31.5%), mandible in 179 patients (48.6%), and maxilla and mandible in 73 patients (19.8%). They were in anterior region in 58 patients (15.8%), posterior region in 245 patients (66.6%), and anterior and posterior region in 65 patients (17.7%). Two hundred and nine patients (56.8%) had single-unit fixed partial dentures (S-FPDs), 83 patients (22.6%) had multi-unit fixed partial dentures (M-FPDs), 44 patients (12%) had both S-FPDs and M-FPDs, and 32 patients (8.7%) had overdentures. Conclusions: The great majority of patients treated with dental implants had S-FPDs. Only 8% of patients had overdentures. The most implant treated sites were mandible and posterior regions.

Amaç: Bu çalışmanın amacı; Türkiye'de 2 farklı diş hekimliği fakültesindeki ikinci sınıf preklinik öğrencilerinin Protetik Diş Tedavisi dersi ile ilgili algıları, stres düzeyleri ve gelecek klinik çalışmalara hazırlıklı olmaları konusundaki bilgileri elde etmektir.Gereç ve Yöntem: Bu çalışma, biri devlet, diğeri vakıf üniversitesi diş hekimliği fakültelerinin ikinci sınıf preklinik öğrencileri üzerinde gerçekleştirilmiştir. Öğrencilerin Protetik Diş Tedavisi preklinik uygulamaları esnasındaki stres düzeyleri ve kazandıkları bilgilerin yeterliliği konusundaki düşüncelerini almak için bir anket formu uygulanmıştır. Verilerin istatistiksel olarak değerlendirilmesinde ki-kare testi kullanılmıştır.Bulgular: Vakıf üniversitesi öğrencileri laboratuvar çalışmaları sırasında eğitmenlerden aldıkları geri bildirimlerin oldukça yeterli olduğunu bildirmişlerdir. Ayrıca, aynı öğrenciler preklinik çalışmaları için verilen teorik bilginin de anlamlı derecede farklılıkla yeterli olduğunuvurgulamışlardır. Genel olarak değerlendirildiğinde, vakıf üniversitesi öğrencilerinin, devlet üniversitesi öğrencilerine oranla klinikte hasta bakımına anlamlı derecede farklılıkla daha hazır olduğu sonucu belirlenmiştir.Sonuç: Vakıf ve devlet üniversitesi öğrencilerinin protetik diş tedavisi preklinik programı ile ilgili görüşleri farklılıklar göstermektedir. Eğitmenler öğrencilere sağlam temellere dayalı bir program oluşturmalı ve müfredat düzenli olarak değerlendirilerek yakın gelecekte topluma hizmet edecek olan diş hekimliği öğrencilerinin avantajına uygun şekilde güncellenmelidir. Aim: The aim of this study was to obtain information among2 dental schools in Turkey regarding preclinical students' perception, stress levels and preparedness for their future clinical studies.Materials and methods: This study was conducted on the second year students in one foundation and one state dental school in Istanbul. The questionnaire consisted of questions about students' opinions about their stress levels in preclinical exercises of prosthodontics, as well as adequacy of knowledge they received from their preclinical training. Data were analyzed using the chi-square test.Results: The students of the foundation school considered that feedback received from the instructors during laboratory exercises was highly satisfactory with statistically significant differences. In addition they regarded didactic knowledge received for preclinical exercises as highly satisfactory. In general, students of the foundation school felt themselves more prepared for treating patients with statistical significance.Conclusions: Student's perceptions on preclinical prosthodontic educational program were different in foundation and state dental school. Dental school instructors must provide a well-established program for the students and educational curriculum must be regularly evaluated and updated to be beneficial for the dental student who is expected to start serving the public in the near future.

Amaç: Bu çalışmanın amacı, Türkiye'deki bir dişhekimliği fakültesinde son sınıf öğrencilerinin protetik diş tedavisindeki tecrübe ve özgüvenlerini değerlendirmektir.Gereç ve yöntem: Öğrencilerin protetik prosedürlerdeki klinik becerilerini sorgulayan bir anket formu oluşturuldu (n:44). 20 soru çoktan seçmeli, 1 soru açık uçlu ve 3 soru Likert tipi skala içerecek şekilde toplamda 24 soruluk formlar öğrencilere dağıtıldı. Sonuçlar istatistiksel olarak değerlendirildi.Bulgular: Öğrencilerin %40'ı protetik diş tedavisinin dişhekimliğinin en zor alanı olduğunu bildirdi. Öğrenciler kendilerini en çok, diş kesimi (2,89), post ölçüsü alma (2,84), tam protezlerde oklüzal dikey boyut belirleme (2,36), parsiyel protezlerde oklüzal dikey boyut belirleme (2,21), tam protezlerde kenar şekillendirme (2,50) ve parsiyel protezlerde kenar şekillendirme (2,32) sırasında güvensiz hissettiklerini bildirdi.Sonuç: Protetik diş tedavisi ders müfredatında, öğrencilerin kendilerini yetersiz hissettikleri konular daha fazla vurgulanmalıdır. Aim: The aim of this study was to assess the final year students' experience and confidence in prosthetic dentistry within a dental school in Turkey.Materials and Methods: A questionnaire was prepared to assess the students' experience of clinical skills in prosthetic procedures (n:44). Twenty questions were multiple-choice;1 question was open-ended and 3 questions used a Likerttype scale ranging from 1 (very little confident) to 5 (very confident). The data were statistically analyzed.Results: Forty percent of the students thought that prosthodontics was the most difficult field in dentistry. Students rated themselves as being least confident in tooth preparation (2.89), making impression for post-core (2.84), determination of occlusal vertical dimension for complete (2.36) and removable partial dentures (2.21), followed by peripheral sealing for complete (2.50) and removable partial dentures (2.32).Conclusions: There are lots of subjects in which the students reported a lack of confidence that warrants greater emphasis in the undergraduate prosthodontic curriculum.

Objectives: In this study, optical coherence tomography (OCT) findings of the patients with a diagnosis of acute or chronic central serous chorioretinopathy (CSCR) were investigated. Methods: Patients with symptoms and signs longer than 3 months were considered as chronic CSCR. OCT findings of acute and chronic CSCR were recorded at admission. Between the groups, following parameters were compared; visual acuity, hyper reflective dots (HRD), subretinal fluid height (SFH) presence of pigment epithelial detachment (PED), status of photoreceptor inner-outer segment (IS/OS) line. Results: When acute and chronic patients evaluated separately, in acute patients accompanied by PED had lower visual acuity and higher SRF height. In patients with chronic CSCR subretinal fluid of patients with PED was greater than the others however there were no statistically significant differences in visual acuity. Presence of HRD had no effect on the average visual acuity SRF height in patients with acute and chronic CSCR. Also IS/OS line integrity had no effect in visual acuity of the patients in our study. Conclusion: Between the groups there was no difference in terms of IS/OS line distortion, presence of HRD, PED. Height of SRF in patients with PED was higher in both groups. In addition, in acute patients with PED visual acuity was also found to be lower. J Clin Exp Invest 2014; 5 (2): 290-293, Amaç: Bu çalışmada Santral Seröz Koryoretinopati (SSKR) tanısı alan olgular, akut veya kronik hastalık durumuna ve Optik Koherens Tomografi (OKT) bulgularına göre karşılaştırılmıştır. Yöntemler: 3 aydan uzun süreli semptom ve bulguları olan hastalar kronik SSKR kronik olarak kabul edildi. Akut ve kronik SSKR hastalarının başvuru anındaki OKT bulguları kaydedildi. Gruplar, görme keskinliği, Hiperreflektif noktalar (HRN), subretinal sıvı (SRS), pigment epitel dekolmanı (PED) gibi OKT bulguları açısından karşılaştırıldı. Bulgular: Akut ve kronik hastalar ayrı ayrı değerlendirildiğinde PED\'in eşlik ettiği akut SSKR olgularının görme keskinliği daha düşük subretinal sıvı yükseklikleri daha yüksek olduğu saptandı. Kronik hastalarda ise PED olan olguların subretinal sıvı yükseklikleri daha fazla iken görme keskinliklerinde istatistiksel anlamlı bir fark bulunmadı. HRN varlığının akut ve kronik hastalarda görme keskinliği ve sıvı yüksekliğine ortalamasına etkisi olmadığı görülmüştür. İç segment dış segment bileşkesi (IS/OS) bandında bozulma olan hastaların görme keskinlikleri diğer hastalardan farklı bulunmadı. Sonuçlar: Sonuç olarak bu çalışmada gruplar arasında IS/OS bandında bozulma, HRN ve PED varlığı açısından fark saptanmadı. PED olan hastalarda subretinal sıvı yüksekliği iki grupta da daha yüksek bulundu. Ayrıca PED olan akut hastalarda görme keskinliği de daha düşük saptandı.

The aim of this case study is to report a possible side effect associated with topical moxifloxacin in a patient who had a flu like infection before.A twenty-seven years old female admitted to our clinic having signs of bacterial conjunctivitis was instructed to use topical moxifloxacin. At the control visit she was experiencing blurred vision because of bilateral pigmented cells at anterior chamber. Also she had diffuse punctuate transillumination of irises bilaterally. She was prescribed prednisolone and tropicamide containing eye drops. At the tenth day of this treatment she had irregular middilated pupils, intraocular pressure increase in the left eye and heavily pigmented iridocorneal angles. Tropicamide was discontinued and antiglaucomatous treatment was started. One week later introcular pressure was normal, pupils are atonic bilaterally. She had a slight posterior subcapsular cataract and iridocorneal angle pigmentation was remained. Bu olgu sunumunun amacı öncesinde gribal enfeksiyon geçirmiş bir hastada topikal moksifloksasin ile muhtemel ilişkili olabileceğini düşündüğümüz bir yan etkiyi bildirmektir. Yirmi yaşında bakteriyel konjonktivit bulgusuyla kliniğimize başvuran kadın hastaya topikal moksifloksasin kullanması önerildi. Hasta kontrolde görüldüğünde bilateral ön kamaradaki pigmente hücreler nedeniyle bulanık görmesi mevcuttu. Ayrıca bilateral iriste diffüz punktat transilüminasyonu vardı. Prednizolon ve tropikamid içeren göz damlaları reçete edildi. Bu tedavinin onuncu gününde hastanın düzensiz middilate pupilleri, artmış göziçi basıncı ve yoğun pigmente iridokorneal açıları vardı. Tropikamid kesilip antiglokomatöz tedavi başlandı. Bir hafta sonra göziçi basıncı normal iken bilateral pupiller atonikti. Hafif arka subkapsüler kataraktı vardı ve iridokorneal açı pigmentasyonu mevcuttu.

Amaç: Bu çalışmada prematüre retinopatisi (PR) olan hastalarda tip 1 PR gelişen ve gelişmeyen hastaların ortalama trombosit hacmi (OTH) karşılaştırılmıştır. Yöntemler: Çalışma prematüre yeni doğanların hastane kayıtları incelenerek yapılmıştır. 1500 gr ağırlık altında ve doğum haftası 32 haftadan küçük olan bebekler bu çalışmaya dahil edilmiştir. Doğum ağırlıkları, doğum haftası, retinopatinin evresi, artı hastalık varlığı araştırılmıştır. Tip 1 PR tanısı koyulduğu zaman hastalardan kan alınmıştır. Tip 1 PR tanısı almayan hastalardan da benzer gestasyonel yaşlarda kan alınmıştır. Tam kan sayımında; hemoglobin, hematokrit, trombosit sayısı ve OTH değerleri kaydedilmiştir. Bulgular: Altmış üç PR’li hasta bu çalışmaya dahil edildi. Bu hastaların 22 tanesinde tip 1 PR saptanırken, 41 tanesinde saptanmadı. Ortalama doğum haftası ve doğum ağırlığı gruplar arasında istatistiksel farklılık saptanmadı. Ortalama OTH tip 1 PR gelişen olgularda 9,1±2,0 fL iken tip 1 PR gelişmeyen olgularda 9,4±1,8 fL idi (p=0,61) Sonuçlar: Çalışmamızda OTH değerleri tip 1 PR gelişen ve gelişmeyen PR’li hastalarda farklı saptanmamıştır. Objective: We aimed to evaluate the mean platelet volume (MPV) in patients with retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) with respect to development of type 1 ROP Methods: The medical records of the premature infants were evaluated. Babies with a birth weight under 1500 g and a gestational age under 32 weeks were enrolled to the study. Birth weight, gestational age, onset and grade of retinopathy, presence of plus disease were analyzed. At the time of type 1 ROP diagnosis, blood samples were obtained. In the patients without type 1 ROP the blood samples were also obtained at similar gestational age. Hemoglobin, hematocrit, platelet count, and MPV results were recorded. Results: Sixty-three infants were studied. 22 of them had type 1 ROP and 41 had not developed type 1 ROP. The mean gestational age and the mean birth weight between groups were not statistically significant. The mean MPV values in patients with type 1 ROP and without type 1 ROP was 9,1±2,0 fL and 9,4±1,8 fL, respectively (p=0.61). Conclusion: The results demonstrated that MPV values were not associated with severity of ROP in our study population. J Clin Exp Invest 2014; 5 (2): 276-279.

Amaç: Bu çalışmada amacımız, yeni tanı alan ve herhangi bir diyabetik retinopati (DR) bulgusu olmayan tip 2 diyabetes mellituslu (DM) olgularla sağlıklı bireylerin peripapiller retina sinir lifi tabakası (pRSLT) ve koroid tabakası kalınlıklarını karşılaştırmaktır. Yöntemler: Çalışmaya Endokrin polikliniğinden yeni tanı almış ve DR’si olmayan DM’li hastalar ile sağlıklı kontrol grubu dahil edildi. Olguların Spectral-Domain optik koherens tomografi (spektralis OKT) cihazı ile EDI modunda (enhanced depth imaging- artırılmış derinlik görüntülemesi) horizontal düzlemde taraması yapıldı. Alınan görüntülerden fovea merkezinden, fovea merkezine 1000 μm temporal ve nazalden koroid kalınlıkları ölçümü yapıldı. Ayrıca aynı cihazla pRSLT kalınlık ölçümü yapıldı. Bulgular: Çalışmaya DR’si olmayan 28 yeni tanılı DM hastasının 28 gözü ile 28 kontrol grubunun 28 gözü dahil edildi. Yaş, cinsiyet, sferik ekivalan, düzeltilmiş en iyi görme keskinliği, göz içi basıncı ve aksiyel uzunluk değerlerinde gruplar arasında anlamlı farklılık saptanmadı. Subfoveal ve temporal alanda koroid kalınlığının yeni tanılı DM grubunda kontrol grubuna göre daha ince olduğu saptandı (sırasıyla p=0,04, p=0,006). pRNFL analizinde ise averaj, nazal ve temporal süperior kadranlar yeni tanılı DM grubunda kontrol grubuna göre anlamlı olarak daha ince bulundu. Diğer pRNFL kadranlarında anlamlı bir fark saptanmadı. Sonuç: Çalışmamızın verileri değerlendirildiğinde yeni tanılı DM’li hastalarda DR bulguları olmaksızın koroid tabakasında incelmenin yanında pRSLT’de bazı incelmelerin (özellikle averaj, nazal ve temporal süperior kadranlarda) olabileceğini söylemek mümkün görünmektedir, Objective: We aimed to compare the peripapillary retinal nerve fiber layer (pRNFL) and choroidal thickness in na­ive type 2 diabetic patients without diabetic retinopathy (DR) with healthy subjects. Methods: The study included newly diagnosed diabetic patients without DR and healthy control subjects. Hori­zontal plane scan of choroid was performed using en­hanced depth imaging (EDI) mode of spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT). The choroidal thickness was measured at the central fovea and at 1000 μm nasal and temporal from the center of the fovea. In addition, the same measurements were performed for pRNFL thickness. Results: The study included 28 eyes of the 28 newly di­agnosed with diabetic patients without DR and 28 eyes of the 28 healthy subjects. Age, gender, spherical equivalent refraction, best-corrected visual acuity, intraocular pres­sure and axial length were not difference between groups. The choroidal thickness of subfoveal and temporal areas were thinner in the naive DM group than that of control group (p = 0.04, p = 0.006, respectively.). In pRNFL analy­sis, average, nasal and superior temporal quadrants were significantly thinner in the newly diagnosed with DM than those of control group. There were no significant differ­ences in other pRNFL quadrants. Conclusion: When the data were analyzed, in addition to thinning of the choroid layer, it is possible to say that some thinning can be observed in the pRNFL particularly at the average, nasal and temporal superior quadrants in the patients newly diagnosed with DM without DR.

Amaç: Kliniğimize 2011-2013 yılları arasında müracaat eden yetişkin üveit hastalarının demografik ve klinik özelliklerini değerlendirmek. Yöntemler: Kliniğimizde Kasım 2011-Mayıs 2013 tarihleri arasında üveit tanısı alan 18 yaş üzeri olguların dosya bilgileri geriye dönük olarak incelendi. Dosya bilgilerinden yaş, cinsiyet, tutulum olan göz, üveitin anatomik yerleşim yeri, aldığı tanı, sistemik özellikleri kaydedildi. Bulgular: Çalışma kapsamında toplam 352 olgu değerlendirildi. Olguların ortalama yaşı 35,7±12,8 yıl idi. Hastaların 177 (%50,3)\'si kadın, 175 (%49,7)\' i erkek idi. Etiyolojik sınıflamada en sık idiyopatik grup tespit edildi. Bunu sırasıyla Behçet hastalığı ve toksoplazma koryoretiniti izlemekte idi. Anatomik yerleşim yerine göre en sık ön üveit tanısı konulduğu görüldü. Bunu panüveit izlemekte idi. Olguların %69,1\'nde tek taraflı tutulum mevcut idi. Üveitle beraber izlenen en sık komplikasyonun sekonder katarakt ve glokom gelişimi olduğu görüldü. Sonuç: Yaptığımız çalışma ile Güneydoğu Anadolu Bölgesindeki üveit hastalarının genel özellikleri, etiyolojik faktörleri ve demografik verileri sunulmuştur. Daha önceden bölgemizde benzer bir çalışma yapılmadığından dolayı verilerimizin hastaların tanı ve takiplerinde faydalı olacağı kanaatindeyiz., Objective: To evaluate the demographic and clinical characteristics of adult patients with uveitis who were admitted to our clinic between 2011 and 2013. Methods: Records of the patients older than 18 years old with a diagnosis of uveitis between November 2011 and May 2013 were retrospectively reviewed. Age, gender, diagnosis, affected eye, anatomical localization of uveitis, and systemic features were recorded from the patient files. Results: In this study 352 patients were evaluated. The mean age of the patients was 35.7±12.8 years. Of the patients 177 patients (50.3%) were women and 175 (49.7%) were male. The most common etiology was detected as idiopathic uveitis. Following most common reasons were Behcet's disease, and toxoplasma chorioretinitis. Anterior uveitis was found to be the most common involvement site. Panuveititis was the second most common involvement site. 69.1% of the patients had unilateral uveitis. The most common complications of the uveitis were found to be the development of secondary cataracts and glaucoma. Conclusion: In our study general characteristics of patients, the etiological factors and demographic data of the uveitis patient in Southeastern of Turkey were presented. Because of a similar study has not been performed previously in our region, our data will be useful in earlier diagnosis and follow-up of uveitis patients.

Amaç: Bu çalışmanın amacı, Yeditepe Üniversitesi Diş Hekimliği Fakültesi’ne başvuran hastaların çapraz enfeksiyon kontrolü konusundaki tutum ve duyarlılığını değerlendirmektir.Gereç ve Yöntem: 1-30 Aralık 2010 tarihleri arasında Yeditepe Üniversitesi Diş Hekimliği Fakültesi’ne tedavi nedeniyle başvuran 277’si kadın ve 173’ü erkek olmak kaydıyla toplam 450 hastaya, çapraz enfeksiyon kontrolü konusundaki sorulardan oluşan anket formları dağıtıldı. Hastalara, dental işlemler sırasında diş hekimlerinin eldiven, maske, bone ve koruyucu gözlük kullanım gerekliliği, bunların değiştirilme ve yenilenme şartları ve tedavi öncesi enfeksiyon kontrol yöntemleri ile ilgili sorular soruldu. Tanımlayıcı istatistiksel metodlar ve Ki-Kare testi kullanılarak veriler analiz edildi. BACKGROUND: The aim of this study is to investigate and compare the serum levels of various cytokines in patients with Behçet's Disease and healthy controls. METHODS: Thirty‐five patients with Behçet's disease and 29 age and sex‐matched healthy controls were included in the study. The patients were separated into groups with active and inactive disease. Serum IL‐2, IL‐6, IL‐8, IL‐10, IL‐17A, and IFN‐γ levels were determined using the enzyme‐linked immunosorbent assay method. Cytokine levels of the two patient groups and healthy controls were compared using SPSS 15.0. RESULTS: Ten patients with active disease and 25 patients with inactive disease were present. Serum IL‐8 levels of active BD patients were higher compared to inactive patients (P = 0.048) and healthy controls (P = 0.02). IL‐8 levels were correlated with the duration of symptoms (r = 0.490, P = 0.003) and time passed since diagnosis (r = 0.579, P ˂ 0.001). CONCLUSION: Behçet's disease involves complex interactions of cells of the immune system, mainly T lymphocytes and neutrophils. Further studies on the cytokine profile in Behçet's disease will aid in elucidation of its pathogenesis.
