Objectives: Besides the well-known sensorimotor control function, the cerebellum is also associated with cognitive functions and mood via the cerebral-cerebellar circuit. This study aimed to investigate possible cerebellar morphometric changes in untreated patients with depression. Methods: Brain magnetic resonance (MR) images of 40 adults (age: 18–50 years), including 20 untreated depression patients and 20 healthy controls were analysed prospectively. Intracranial cavity and total cerebellar volumes were measured by using VolBrain. The cerebellum segmentation was performed with CERES to obtain the total gray matter volumes and cortical thickness of the lobules. Results: Total cerebellar volume was 141.27±13.12 cm3 in the depressed group and 142.63±8.01 cm3 in the control group (p>0.05). The difference between males and females in the depressed group was not statistically significant (p>0.05). Total cerebellar volume was approximately 11% of total intracranial volume in both groups. The foot absorbs shocks with its arches, muscles, ligaments and joints, and bodyweight transmission and it pushes the body forward during all movement patterns. Pes planus is more important in sports activities that include balance and sports performance, such as walking, running, jumping, or transferring weight to a single lower limb. This study, conducted with this information in mind, aims to examine the effects of pes planus deformity on balance and vertical jump performance. Fifty athletes were included in the study. The presence of pes planus was evaluated according to the Feiss line. Balance measurements were performed with a Balance System SD Biodex. Vertical jump performance was recorded using an Omegawave jumping mat. The relationship between the pes planus grades of the participants and their balance and jump performances was analyzed using the Spearman correlation method. Vertical jump and Limit of stability (LOS) was significantly correlated with pes planus.

Yetenek secimi bircok parametreyi iceren karmasik bir surectir ve yetenek secim modelinin spora ozgu uyarlanmasi gereklidir. Bu arastirmanin amaci Turkiye Dagcilik Federasyonu (TDF) Spor Tirmanis Sporcu Tarama Komisyonu tarafindan gelistirilen, spor tirmanis yetenek secimi test bataryasinin (STYSTB) uygulanmasiydi. Bununla birlikte sporcularin musabakada elde ettikleri puanlarla STYSTB parametreleri arasindaki iliskiler de incelendi. STYSTB yas ortalamasi 11,06±1,56 olan 62 kisiye (32 kadin ve 30 erkek) uygulandi. Ilk gun yarisma duzenlendi ve ikinci gun ise vucut kompozisyonu, kuvvet, surat, esneklik ve denge parametrelerini iceren STYSTB uygulandi. Verilerin cinsiyete gore ortalama karsilastirmalari ve musabakada elde edilen basari puanlariyla korelasyon analizleri de yapildi. Sonuclara gore erkekler 30 ve 60 sn. sinav degerleri, kadinlarin ise endomorfi, vucut yag orani ve esneklik olcum degerleri arasindaki iliski anlamli olarak yuksek bulundu. Her iki cinsiyette musabaka puani ile ekstansiyonda asili kalma suresi, toplam barfiks sayisi ve barfikste kalinan surede, ek olarak kadinlarda sag alt ekstremite dengesi, fleksiyonda asili kalma suresi, 30-60 sn. sinav sayilari ve plank suresi arasinda anlamli iliski bulundu. Kuvvet degerleri ile karsilastirildiginda, denge ve esneklige ait 6 parametreden yalnizca biri ile musabaka puani arasinda korelasyon gozlendi. Sonuc olarak guncel arastirma Turkiye’de spor tirmanis ile ilgili yapilan ilk yetenek tarama modelini olusturmaktadir. Bu arastirmada esneklik ve denge gibi parametreler ile musabaka puani arasinda yalnizca bir parametrede korelasyon gozlenmis olmasi tecrubesiz tirmanicilarin yeteneklerini tirmanisa aktaramamasindan kaynaklaniyor olabilir ve bu nedenle bu parametrelerin de yetenek secimi test bataryasinda kalmasi gerektigi dusunulmektedir. Bu modelde yalnizca fiziksel ve fizyolojik parametreler degerlendirilmistir ve bilissel ve psikolojik yeterlik testleri de bu test bataryasina eklenebilir.

Background and Study Aim: In order to sustain the performance in sport, it is necessary to constantly struggle with the factors which disrupt balance, and maintain the desired balance. The purpose of the present study is to compare and demonstrate the effects of sight grade on static and dynamic balance, and fall risk parameters in visually impaired and non-impaired judo athletes and goalball/futsal players. Material and Methods: A total of 26 male athletes (13 Judo, 13 Goalball/Futsal) participated in the study voluntarily. The participants performed two balance tests as Overall Stability Test and Fall Risk Test with the eyes open and eyes closed. The parameters observed were static and dynamic overall stability, anterior-posterior, and medial-lateral index, and fall risk. Results: According to the findings, there were significant differences in all the parameters with the eyes open and eyes closed conditions in visually non-impaired athletes regardless of the sport branch, while visually impaired athletes showed no significant difference. However, more loss of balance was observed in all the parameters for visually impaired athletes. Conclusions: These findings show that visual system has a crucial role on balance, and athletes with visually impaired have more advanced vestibular system and proprioceptive senses to maintain their balance. It was also understood that visually non-impaired athletes tend to show more deteriorated balance level when their eyes were closed. Future studies could examine the vestibular and proprioceptive senses besides visual system to provide information about how balance is affected from other systems.

Background: The aim of the current paper was to compare the anxiety and sensation seeking levels of the mountaineers in the urban environment and at the extremely high altitude.Material and methods: A total of seven male mountaineers participated in the study voluntarily. The participants filled out the Zuckerman’s Sensation Seeking Scale-Form V (SSS-V, 1994) and Spielberger’s State and Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI, 1983) for the first time in the urban conditions and for the second time in the last camp at 6400m of the two summits of 7105m and 7134m. The scores of four different sub-scales of the SSS-V, which are boredom susceptibility (BS), disinhibition (D), experience seeking (ES), and thrill and adventure seeking (TAS), were also evaluated.Results: Results showed a significant difference between trait and state anxiety scores (p= 0.004). Although there were 12.8% of change on general SSS, 22.61% on BS, 13.70% on ES, and 18.43% on TAS scores, these changes were not statistically significant. Conclusions: Extreme altitude climbing leads to an increase in the anxiety levels of the mountaineers. Furthermore, the SSS-V scores, except the D score, of the mountaineers decreased in the extreme altitudes, but these changes were not statistically significant.

Sprint interval training (SIT) is a concept that has been shown to enhance aerobic-anaerobic training adaptations and induce larger effects in hypoxia. The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of 4 weeks of SIT with 15 or 30 s in hypoxia on aerobic, anaerobic performance and critical power (CP). A total of 32 male team players were divided into four groups: SIT with 15 s at FiO2: 0.209 (15 N), FiO2: 0.135 (15 H), SIT with 30 s at FiO2: 0.209 (30 N), and FiO2: 0.135 (30 H). VO2max did not significantly increase, however time-to-exhaustion (TTE) was found to be significantly longer in the post test compared to pre test (p = 0.001) with no difference between groups (p = 0.86). Mean power (MPw.kg) after repeated wingate tests was significantly higher compared to pre training in all groups (p = 0.001) with no difference between groups (p = 0.66). Similarly, CP was increased in all groups with 4 weeks of SIT (p = 0.001) with no difference between groups (p = 0.82). This study showed that 4 weeks of SIT with 15 and 30 s sprint bouts in normoxia or hypoxia did not increased VO2max in trained athletes. However, anerobic performance and CP can be increased with 4 weeks of SIT both in normoxia or hypoxia with 15 or 30 s of sprint durations.

Objective: Food addiction is a behavioral addiction that presents with addictive behavioral changes toward high sugar, high fat, and highly palatable foods. This study aims to determine the relationship between food addiction with personality traits, personal habits, and psychiatric symptomatology. Method: In a cross-sectional design study, the participation of 1500 students studying in Konya Selçuk University Central Campus was planned. A sociodemographic data form, Yale Food Addiction Scale (YFAS), Symptom Checklist-90 (SCL-90), and Eysenck’s Personality Inventory (EPI) were used for assessment. Results: A total of 1418 forms were included in the statistical analysis. Food addiction prevalence was 11.4% in the study group. The mean YFAS score for total sample was 3.2, whereas it was 3.0 for non-food addicts, and 4.7 for food addicts. According to the logistic regression analysis, there were positive correlations between food addiction and body mass index, social media consumption over 5 hours, psychoticism subscale of EPI, interpersonal relations subscale of SCL-90. Also, there was a positive correlation with irregular eating, skipping meals, the number of snacks, eating time (30 min) and eating alone. All sub-scores for SCL-90 strongly differed between food addicts and non-addicts. Psychoticism and neuroticism scores were positively correlated with food addiction. Conclusion: Our study demonstrated that food addiction is associated with some personality traits, personal habits, and psychiatric symptoms in a large university sample.

Sixteen female soccer players (age = 20.19 &plusmn, 1.52 years, body mass = 56.52 &plusmn, 4.95 kg, body height = 164.81 &plusmn, 4.21 cm) with no history of lower extremity injury participated in the study. The Biodex SD Balance system was used to determine the non-dominant single-leg stability. In anaerobic exercise, each subject performed four maximal cycling efforts against a resistance equivalent to 0.075 kg/body mass for 30 s with three-minute rest intervals. In aerobic exercise, subjects performed the Bruce protocol on a motorized treadmill. After each exercise, subjects subsequently performed a single-leg stability test and then repeated the same test for four times with five-minute passive rest periods. In accordance with the results, it was found that the impairment observed right after the aerobic loading was higher (p &lt, 0.001) compared to the anaerobic one. However, the time-related deterioration in both aerobic and anaerobic loadings was similar. The B-pre value was lower than Bpost and B5 (p &lt, 0.01) and B10 (p &lt, 0.05) in both conditions. Subjects could reach the initial balance level at B15 after aerobic and anaerobic loadings. The lactate level did not reach resting value even after 20 min of both fatigue protocols. Although the fatigue after aerobic and aerobic exercise negatively affects a single-leg dynamic balance level, single leg balance ability returns to the baseline status after 10 min of passive recovery duration.

Functional movement deficiencies cause falls and injuries in adults. Functional strength training (FST) is emerging as a new training method for athletes, middle-aged and older adults, to improve functional movement: The present study was conducted in order to investigate the effects of FST on balance and functional movement in healthy and independent middle-aged adults. The sample for this study consisted of 46 physically active individuals (24 female and 22 male). A total of 46 subjects were divided based on randomly into the functional strength training (FST) group (n = 26) aged: 51.55 ± 3.73 years; height: 168.69 ± 8.8 cm; body mass: 75.88 ± 12.18; and traditional strength training (TST) group (n = 20) age: 52.85 ± 4.01; height: 166.9 ± 9.98; body mass: 76.15 ± 10.45. Each group performed 24 sessions of a training protocol three-time a week. The functional movement was assessed using the functional movement screen (FMS) protocol. Balance performance was determined by using the balance error scoring system (BESS). Bodyweight and body fat ratio were measured using bioelectric impedance. There was a significant statistical difference between FMS total scores after an eight-week FST in the FST group. After the intervention, the functional strength group tended to have significantly better balance control than the traditional strength group (p = 0.01). Statistically, significant differences were observed between pre-test and post-test in the intervention group on BMI, body fat, and body mass (p = 0.01). There were not found significant differences in balance control and FMS score in TST group. As a result of this study, FST positively affected the FMS total score and balance performance in middle-aged adults. Early detections of the deficiencies in functional movement and balance in the middle ages may reduce the risk of insufficiency and fall in adults through targeted functional strength training intervention.

The aim of this investigation was to identify possible related factors associated to the performance of the crunning test in European children and adolescents. A total number of 559 children and adolescents (age range 6&ndash, 14 years) of which 308 boys (55.1%) and 251 girls (44.9%), from seven European countries, were screened. A questionnaire concerning demographic and personal life-related factors and a cognitive assessment were performed. A regression analysis was conducted with the performance measures of the crunning movement. T-tests and ANCOVA were used to analyze sub-group differences. Boys have greater crunning performance values compared to girls (5.55 s vs. 7.06 s, p &lt, 0.001) and older children perform better than younger ones (R2 &minus, 0.23, p &lt, 0.001). Children with healthy and active habits (exercising or spending time with family members vs. reading or surfing the internet) performed better in the test. Children engaged in team sports had better crunning performances compared to those engaged in individual sports (6.01 s vs. 6.66 s, p = 0.0166). No significant association was found regarding cognitive-related aspects in either children engaged in team or individual sports and the crunning performance. Older and male children performed better in the crunning test than younger and female children. Physical activity-related aspects of children&rsquo, s life are associated with crunning movement performance. No association was found between higher cognitive performance and the crunning test results.

Background: Physical fitness in youth is a predictor of health in adulthood. The main objective of the present study was to understand if an enriched sport activity program could increase physical fitness in a population of schoolchildren. Methods: In a sample of 672 children aged 10.0 &plusmn, 1.90 years, different motor skills were tested by the 1 kg and 3 kg ball throw (BT), the standing broad jump (SBJ), the 30 m sprint (30mS), the leger shuttle run (LSR), the illinois agility test (IGT), and the quadruped test (QT). Within the controlled-trial, the intervention group (ESA) underwent an additional warm-up protocol, which included cognitive enhancing elements, for 14 weeks while the control group continued with ordinary exercise activity. Results: A significant increase was present regarding the 1 kg and 3 kg BT, the SBJ, the 30mS, and the IGT, while no significant difference was shown regarding the QT and the LSR in the ESA group between pre and post intervention. In the control group, no differences were present for any test except for the QT and the LSR post-test. Conclusion: A 14-week structured physical intervention had moderate effects regarding throwing, jumping, sprinting, and agility in a sample of schoolchildren.

Ankilozan spondilit (AS); nedeni bilinmeyen, esasen omurgayı olmak üzere diğer eklemleri de etkileyebilen kronik inflamatuar bir hastalıktır. AS, spondiloartropatilerin prototipi olup dünya nüfusunun % 0,9'unu etkilemektedir. Sülfasalazin, AS tedavisinde kullanılan hastalık modifiye edici antiromatizmal ilaçlardan biridir. Sülfasalazinin; mani, depresyon ve psikoz gibi ciddi psikiyatrik problemler de dahil olmak üzere merkezi sinir sistemi üzerinde olumsuz etkilere yol açtığına dair olgular nadir olarak bildirilmiştir. Bu yazıda, psikotik özellikli majör depresif bozukluk nedeniyle başvuran bir erkek hasta sunulmaktadır. Hastada ciddi psikiyatrik belirtiler gelişirken, AS için günde 1000 mg sülfasalazin alıyordu. Romatoloji bölümüne konsulte edilen hastanın, sülfasalazinin psikiyatrik semptomların nedeni olabileceğinden şüphelenildiği için, sulfasalazin tedavisi kesildi. Şikayetler, psikiyatrik tedavinin başlangıcından 1 ay sonra tamamen geriledi., Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is a chronic inflammatory disease of unknown cause and affects mainly the spine, but can also affect other joints. AS is the prototype of spondyloarthropathies that affects 0,9% of the world population. Sulfasalazine is a disease-modifying antirheumatic drug used in the treatment of AS. Sulfasalazine may cause central nervous system adverse effects such as serious psychiatric problems including mania, depression, and psychosis, and these symptoms have been reported to occur only infrequently. This present case reports a male patient who presented due to major depressive disorder with psychotic features. He had been receiving 1000 mg/day sulfasalazine for AS while he developed serious psychiatric symptoms. The patient was stopped being given sulfasalazine after consulting rheumatology, as it was suspected sulfasalazine might have been the cause of his psychiatric symptoms. Complaints were fully resolved 4 months after the beginning of the 1 year psychiatric treatment.

Exposure to toluene, one of the major components of glue, can lead to cardiac arrhythmias and sudden sniffing death syndrome. QT dispersion is a useful risk marker for cardiac arrhythmias and sudden cardiac death. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of glue abuse on QT interval and QT dispersion. The study included 44 patients with inhalant abuse and 34 healthy controls. Patients were divided into three groups: glue abusers with history of unexplained syncope (n = 20), asymptomatic glue abusers (n = 24), and healthy control subjects (n = 34). QT intervals, QT dispersion, and corrected QT dispersion values were measured. QT and corrected QT duration were greater in the symptomatic group than in at the symptomatic group and greater in the asymptomatic group than in controls. QT and corrected QT dispersion in both symptomatic and asymptomatic group were significantly greater than controls (p= .001), and also QT and corrected QT dispersion in symptomatic group was greater in asymptomatic group (p = .001). These findings demonstrate that QT interval and corrected QT dispersion increase in symptomatic or asymptomatic toluene abusers. The QT and QTc dispersion were also found to be longer in the symptomatic group than those in the asymptomatic group.

Aim: Early marriages have considerable adverse effects on adolescents and children health. To determine the factors associated with early marriages, this study was conducted in a forensic sample of Afyonkarahisar province. Method: Between 2005–2006, Adolesencent women who were admitted to the court subsequently referred to the psychiatric outpatient clinics of the univercity. The authors who are psychiatrist individually interviewed all subjects by using a sociodemographic questionnaire form which was applied to 61 women aged between 15-17 years. Result: Most of adolescents in our sample were from rural area and about 65.5 % of participants did not view early marriage as a problem. Of all cases the rate of consanguineous marriage was 23.0 %. More than half of participants reported that their knowledge of sexuality were none or little, and the most common sources of information on sexuality were relatives and friends. Conclusion: It was detected that most adolescents in our sample were from a low socio-economic class, and after finishing the prima ry school, they wait for a marriage. Furthermore, they receive very little sex education from their parents and a modern institutional education programme in their school is needed.

WOS: 000361692900002, PubMed: 28360713, Introduction: The present study aimed to investigate the incidence rate of pregnancy-onset panic disorder (POPD) among Turkish pregnant women using a diagnostic interview. Additionally, we examined whether the independent socio-demographic or clinical risk factors were associated with the risk of panic disorder in these women. Methods: The study sample comprised 1475 consecutive pregnant women who presented to the obstetric outpatient clinics of two research centers. The rate of POPD in these participants was 1.3% (Group 1, n= 20). The 20 women with POPD were compared with 250 pregnant women without pregnancy-onset depression or anxiety (Group 2; controls). Panic disorder and other anxiety or mood disorders were determined by means of the Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-IV. Comorbid Axis II disorders were diagnosed with the Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-III-R Personality Disorders. Results: The incidence rate of panic disorder was 1.3% (n= 20). In group 1, 55% (n= 11) of the women with POPD had an additional mood or anxiety disorder. In addition, the prevalence rate of any cluster C personality disorder, including avoidant, passive-aggressive and obsessivecompulsive personality disorders, were significantly greater in the group 1 women with POPD than the control pregnant women without a panic disorder (group 2). Conclusion: The women with POPD were more likely than the controls to have a cluster C Axis II disorder and a history of a pre-existing anxiety or mood disorder.

ObjectiveArnold Chiari Malformation (ACM) is a disorder of embryologic development that is characterized of herniation of the cerebellar structures through the foramen magnum by four types. ACM type 1 (ACM 1) consists in cerebellar tonsil herniation, which is sometimes associated with other abnormalities, including syringohydromyelia, hydrocephalus and skull base alterations. To date, five cases of psychiatric disorders comorbid with ACM-I have been reported. We here present an apathetic patient have delayed diagnosis ACM-I and severe hydrocephalus and comorbid major depressive disorder.CaseA 36-year-old, male patient who is married and two children, was admitted to hospital with don’t want to make anything, despondency, thoughts of have an incompetency, uselessness and want to death, tiredness, weakness complaints which are increased day by day last 2 months. He was diagnosed with major depression after the psychiatric evaluation and hospitalised. He has unwillingness, tiredness and headache complaints which are started when he was 20 years old and he used antidepressant, anxiolytic, and low dose anthipsycotic drugs under psychiatrist control at this years. In radiologic evaluation, Arnold Chiari type 1 and severe hydrocephalus was detected in brain magnetic resonance imaging.DiscussionACM 1 is related to hydrocephalus as a result of posterior fossa hypoplasia and causes spinal injury by obstruction to cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) flow at the foramen magnum. Apathy is a common yet often overlooked symptom in hydrocephalus. LT'ler kardiyovasküler ve alerjik hastalıkların patofizyolojisinde önemli rol oynayan mediyatörlerdir. LT biyosentezinin ilk aşamasında integral membran proteini FLAP, hem AA için hem de 5-LO için bağlanma noktası görevi görür. Yakın zamanda aydınlatılan FLAP x-ray kristal yapısı, LT biyosentezini inhibe eden yeni moleküllerin geliştirilmesine olanak sağlamaktadır. Bu amaçla, benzimidazol ana yapısına bağlı kalarak, otuz iki adet bileşik tasarlanıp sentezlenmiş ve bu bileşiklerin insan PMNL hücrelerinde LT biyosentezi inhibisyon etkileri araştırılmıştır. Sentezlenen bileşiklerin yapıları spektral ve elementel analiz verileriyle kanıtlanmıştır.Elde edilen otuz iki bileşiğin LT biyosentez inhibisyonu etkileri değerlendirildiğinde, 1-(2-klorobenzil)-2-(1-(4-izobütilfenil)etil)-5-metoksi-1H-benzimidazol (6e), LT biyosentezini 0.12 µM IC50 değerinde inhibe ederek en etkili türev olarak bulunmuştur. Bunun yanında, 1-(2-klorobenzil)-2-[1-(4-izobütilfenil)-etil]-1H-benzimidazol-5-ol (7e) ve 1-(2-klorobenzil)-2-[1-(4-izobütilfenil)etil]-5-(piridin-2-il-metoksi)-1H benzimidazol (9e) için LT biyosentezi inhibisyonu IC50 değerleri sırasıyla 0.19 µM ve 0.18 µM olarak hesaplanmıştır. The first committed step in the synthesis of leukotrienes involves the function of integral membran protein FLAP to transfer AA to 5-LO. The recent elucidation of FLAP x-ray crystal structure caused increased interest for development of new LT biosynthesis inhibitors for treatment of inflammatory diseases. For this purpose, we decided to synthesize new compounds that may exhibit the inhibition of LT biosynthesis in human PMNL. By keeping the main benzimidazole structure, thirty two novel compunds were synthesized. Their sturctures were fully elucidated using spectral techniques and elemental analysis.The obtained thirty two final compunds reported herein were evaluated for their ability to inhibit LT biosynthesis in human PMNL. The compund 6e (1-(2-chlorobenzyl)-2-(1-(4-isobutylphenyl)ethyl)-5-methoxy-1H-benzimidazole) was found to be a potent inhibitor of LT biosynthesis with 0.12 µM. In addition, 1-(2-chlorobenzyl)-2-(1-(4-isobutylphenyl)ethyl)-1H-benzdimidazol-5-ol (7e) and 1-(2-chlorobenzyl)-2-(1-(4-isobutylphenyl)ethyl)-5-(pyridin-2-ylmethoxy)-1H-benzimidazole (9e) derivatives also potently inhibited LT biosynthesis with IC50 values 0.19 µM and 0.18 µM, respectively. By using molecular modeling approaches, molecular binding patterns of selected compounds with FLAP active site resulted insight for further studies. 151

Amaç: Bu çalışmada kronik hepatit B (KHB) hastaları ve inaktif hepatit B virusu (HBV) taşıyıcılarında sağlıklı kontrol grubuna göre anksiyete, depresyon ve yaşam kalitesi skorlarının karşılaştırılması, HBV infeksiyonu olan kişilerin takip ve tedavisi sırasında multidisipliner yaklaşımların gerekliliğinin gösterilmesi amaçlandı. Yöntemler: Çalışma Ağustos 2013-Ağustos 2014 tarihleri arasında Selçuk Üniversitesi, Tıp Fakültesi, İnfeksiyon Hastalıkları ve Klinik Mikrobiyoloji Polikliniği'ne başvuran 100 KHB hastası, 100 inaktif HBV taşıyıcısı ve 100 sağlıklı kontrol olmak üzere toplam 300 kişi üzerinde yapıldı. Tüm katılımcılara anksiyete ve depresyonu değerlendirmek amacıyla Hastane Anksiyete ve Depresyon (HAD) Ölçeği ve yaşam kalitelerini değerlendirmek amacıyla "Short Form-36" (SF-36) uygulandı. Bulgular: HAD Ölçeğine göre taşıyıcı grupta anksiyete riski kontrol grubundan yüksek bulundu (p0.031). Hasta grubu (p0.031) ve taşıyıcı grupta (p0.046) depresyon riski kontrol grubuna göre yüksek bulundu. Hasta grubu ve taşıyıcı grup arasında anksiyete riski ve depresyon riski açısından anlamlı bir fark yoktu (p0.05). Hasta grubu (p0.015), taşıyıcı grup (p0.035) ve kontrol grubunda (p0.001) kadın hastalarda anksiyete riskinin erkek hastalara göre yüksek olduğu görüldü. Hasta grubu (p0.037) ve taşıyıcı grupta (p0.038) kadın hastalarda depresyon riskinin yüksek olduğu görüldü. Tüm olguların medeni durumları, aile tipi, yaşadıkları yerle anksiyete ve depresyon riskleri arasında fark bulunmadı (p0.05). Yaşam kalitesi parametrelerinden genel sağlık, fiziksel rol güçlüğü ve vitalite skorları, inaktif HBV taşıyıcıları ve KHB hastalarında kontrol grubuna göre düşük bulundu (p, Objective: The objective of this study was to compare the anxiety, depression and quality of life scores of chronic hepatitis B (CHB) patients and inactive hepatitis B virus (HBV) carriers with healthy control subjects and to demonstrate the need for a multidisciplinary approach in the follow-up and treatment of patients with HBV infection. Methods: The study was carried out by comparing 200 subjects including 100 CHB patients and 100 inactive HBV carriers, who were admitted to the Outpatient Clinic of Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology Department, Faculty of Medicine, Selcuk University between August 2013 and August 2014 with 100 healthy control subjects. All subjects were given Hospital Anxiety and Depression (HAD) Scale and Short Form-36 (SF-36) to assess their quality of life. Results: Based on the HAD Scale, anxiety risk among the carriers was higher than the control group (p0.031). Depression risk in the patient (p0.031) and carrier groups (p0.046) were higher than the control group. There was no significant difference between the patient and carrier groups with regard to anxiety risk or depression risk (p0.05). Females had higher anxiety risk in the patient (p0.015), carrier (p0.035) and control (p0.001) groups. Depression risk was also higher in females in the patient (p0.037) and carrier (p0.038) groups. There were no significant relations between marital status, family type, place of living and anxiety and depression risks (p0.05). Three quality of life parameters including general health, role limitations due to physical health and vitality scores in the inactive HBV carriers and CHB patients were lower than those of the control group (p0.05). Conclusions: Psychological state of the patients who are chronically infected with HBV should not be neglected during treatment and follow-up. If a psychiatric disturbance is identified, effective treatment will increase quality of life and improve compliance to treatment.
