Bazı demografik değişkenlerin Yabancı Dil Kaygısı (YDK) üzerindeki etkilerini konu alan çalışmalar yabancı dil olarak İngilizce bağlamında azdır. Ayrıca bu çalışmalar farklılık gösteren sonuçlar ortaya koymuşlardır. Bu çalışma Ufuk Üniversitesi Hazırlık Okulunda öğrenim gören Türk öğrencilerinin YDK’larını ve cinsiyet, yaş ve geçmiş yıllardaki hazırlık sınıfı deneyiminin YDK üzerindeki etkilerini araştırmıştır. Çalışma örneklemi 124 öğrenciden oluşmuştur. Veriler Horwitz vd. tarafından geliştirilen Yabancı Dil Sınıf Kaygısı Ölçeğinin Aydın (2001) tarafından Türkçe’ye uyarlanan adaptasyonu ile Ufuk Üniversitesi anket sistemi üzerinden elde edilmiştir. Nicel verilerin analizi Ufuk Üniversitesi Hazırlı Okulu öğrencilerinin orta derecede YDK’na sahip olduklarını ortaya çıkarmıştır. Bunun yanı sıra, yaşın YDK üzerinde anlamlı bir etkisi olduğu sonucu ortaya çıkmıştır. Buna karşın cinsiyet ve geçmiş yıllardaki hazırlık sınıfı deneyiminin Ufuk Üniversitesi Hazırlık Okulu öğrencilerinin YDK seviyeleri üzerinde anlamlı bir etkisi olmadığı tespit edilmiştir., This study researched the levels of Foreign Language Anxiety (FLA) exhibited by Turkish undergraduates and effects of gender, age, and previous preparatory class experience on FLA at Ufuk University Preparatory School, Ankara. 124 preparatory school students have participated in the study. Data were collected via the the Foreign Language Classroom Anxiety Scale (FLCAS), which was developed by Horwitz, Horwitz and Cope (1986) and adapted to Turkish by Aydın (2001). Scale administration was done via the Ufuk University online questionnaire system. Analysis of the quantitative data unveiled that Ufuk University Preparatory School students had moderate levels of FLA. Besides, age was found to be casting a significant effect on FLA. On the other hand, previous preparatory class experience, and gender were found to have no significant effect on the FLA levels of Ufuk University Preparatory School students.

Beyin temelli öğrenme ve öğretim teknikleri''eğitimciler tarafından son zamanların en çok araştırılıp önemsenen konusu haline gelmiştir. Bu aslında o kadar yerinde bir gelişmedir ki beyin temelli öğrenme kavramıyla karşılaşan tüm öğretmenler,bu zamana kadar yaptıkları öğretimin verimliliğini sorgulayıp,bazı öğretim alışkanlıklarının değişmesi gerektiğini fark ederler.Öğretmenliklerinin ilk yıllarında olan eğitimciler, genelde ders esnasında yaptıklarının amacını bilmeden, deneyip yanılarak içgüdüsel olarak doğru olan öğretim yolunu bulmaya çalışırlar. Oysaki;beyin temelli yaklaşım hakkında bilgili olan öğretmenler neyi, ne zaman, nasıl ve neden yapmaları gerektiğini bilirler ve daha etkili olan bir öğretime ulaşmış olurlar. Öğrenme eyleminin tamamen beyin ve fonksiyonlarıyla alakalı olduğu düşünülürse, beyin temelli öğretimin kalıcı öğrenme üzerinde ne kadar etkili olduğu görülecektir. Özellikle çocuklarla çalışan öğretmenlerin, yaşadıkları zorlukların üstesinden gelmelerinde oldukça etkili bir yöntemdir. Herkes tarafından bilinir ki çocuklar, dikkatlerini bir konuya toplamakta ve öğrendiklerini bir süre sonra hatırlamakta sorun yaşarlar. Bu duruma ek olarak, yabancı dilde çocuklara öğretim yapmak üstesinden gelinmesi gereken ayrı bir zorluktur. Buna çözüm arayan öğretmenler için beynin nasıl öğrendiğine dair araştırma yapmaları önerilebilir. Çocuklar için İngilizce kelime bilgisinin önemi yadsınamaz bir gerçektir. Bu sebeple, kelime öğretimininetkinliği, çocuğun o dile olan hakimiyetini direktolarak etkileyecektir. Bu çalışmada, tüm bu yukarda belirtilen sorunlara çözüm bulmak amacıyla beyin temelli yaklaşımın çocukların İngilizce kelime öğrenme süreçlerinde etkisinin olup olmadığı araştırılmıştır. Araştırma, Ankara'daki Anafartalar Koleji ilkokul 4. sınıf öğrencilerini kapsayıp, tüm bir yıllık eğitim dönemi boyunca gerçekleştirilmiştir. Farklı iki sınıftaki öğrenciler üzerinde farklı yöntem ve teknikler kullanılarak, uygulanan testlerle birlikte aradaki fark ortaya konulmaya çalışılmıştır. Bir sınıfta, ana dile çeviri gibi klasik yöntemlerle İngilizce kelime öğretimi yapılırken, diğer sınıfta tamamen beyin temelli yaklaşıma göre öğretim yapılmıştır. Her iki sınıfta da aynı kelimeler aynı zamanda verilmiş olup, sene sonunda öğrencilerin kelimeleri hatırlama oranları bir testle ölçülmüştür. Elde edilen sonuçlar neticesinde beyin temelli yollarla öğretim gören öğrencilerin, klasik yöntemlerle öğretim gören öğrencilere kıyasla kelimeleri hatırlama ve doğru kullanmada daha başarılı olduğu ortaya çıkmıştır. Ayrıca, beyin temelli yaklaşımın uygulandığı sınıfta, öğrencilerin derse katılma bakımından çok daha istekli oldukları; ders esnasında sınıf içihuzur, mutluluk ve motivasyonun daha yüksek olduğu gözlemlenmiştir. Brain based learning and teaching techniques''recently have been the greatest researchand appreciated topic by the educators. Actually, this is such a righteous evolution that all teachers, who encounter with the term of brain based learning, realize that some of their teaching habits need to be changed by questioning the effectiveness of their teaching so far. Educators, at the first years of their teaching, usually try to find the right ways of teaching bytrying and making mistakes instinctively without knowing the aim of what they do during the lesson. However, the teachers, who are informed about the bain based approach, know what to do, when to do, how to do and why to do and they achieve a more effective way of teaching. Thinking that the action of learning is related to the brain and its functions, how effective the brain based teaching is on the permanent learning will be seen. This is a very effective techniqueespecially for the the teachers, who work with children, to overcome the challenges they have. It is known by everyone that children have difficulty in concentrating on a topic and remembering the things they learn after a while. In addition to this, teaching to children in a foreign language is another challenge to be overcomed. For the teachers, who try to find solutions for these challenges, it may be suggested that they search about how the brain learns. The importance of vocabulary knowledge for young learners is an undeniable fact. For this reason, the efficiencyof teaching vocabulary will effect the learner's competency in that language directly. In this study, in order to find solutions to the problems stated above, whether the brain based approach has an affect on young learners'processesof vocabulary learning was researched.The research involves the 4. gradestudents of Anafartalar primary schoolin Ankaraand it was implemented in a whole year education term. The differences were revealed by using different ways and techniques on the students of two different classes with the tests applied. While classical ways of teaching such as translation to the native language, were used in a class in the other class all teaching progess was planned according to the brain based approach.

Reflective teaching has become a central concern in the history of language teacher education in recent years. The central question is whether reflective teaching is implemented in ELT Programs around the globe. This study aimed at investigating ELT student teachers’ evaluations of their ELT program with a specific focus on reflective teaching in Turkey. A questionnaire, consisting of 6 themes with 25 questions, was administered to 242 senior ELT student teachers. The findings display that overhelming majority of student teachers believe that their ELT program is implementing a reflective-teaching-based-approach with a view to helping its student teachers to critically reflect their own teaching practices, Son yıllarda, yansıtıcı öğretim dil öğretmeni yetiştirme programlarında önemli bir yere sahip olmuştur. Bu konudaki temel soru yansıtıcı öğretimin dünya çapında İngiliz Dili Eğitimi programlarında kullanılıp kullanılmadığıdır. Bu çalışmanın amacı , özellikle Türkiye’de ki yansıtıcı öğretim göz önüne alındığında, İngiliz Dili Eğitimi bölümlerindeki öğretmen adayı öğrencilerin bölümlerindeki programı nasıl değerlendirdiklerini araştırmaktır. 6 tema çerçevesinde 25 soruyu kapsayan anket 242 adet İngiliz Dili Eğitimi bölümü öğretmen adayı öğrencilerine verilmiştir. Sonuçlara göre, önemli sayıda öğretmen adayı, bölümlerinde kendi öğretmenlik deneyimlerini eleştirel olarak gözden geçirmelerine yardımcı olmak için yansıtıcı-öğretim-yaklaşımının uygulandığını düşünmektedir

Bu çalışmanın amacı, blog kullanımının, İngilizceyi yabancı dil olarak öğrenen Türk öğrencilerinin yazma performansları ve algıları üzerindeki etkilerini incelemektir. Çalışmaya, Gazi Üniversitesi, Yabancı Diller Yüksek Okulundan, İngilizceyi yabancı dil olarak öğrenen 20 Türk öğrenci katılmıştır. Çalışma üç açıdan ele alınmıştır: (1) blog kullanımının öğrencilerin yazma performansı üzerindeki etkisi, (2) blog kullanımının öğrencilerin algıları üzerindeki etkisi ve (3) öğrencilerin blog kullanımındaki algılarıyla yazma performansları arasındaki ilişki. Veriler, (1) öğrenciler tarafından hazırlanmış altı adet yazma ödevi, (2) dönem başında ve dönem sonunda yapılmış görüşmeler ve (3) 24 maddelik beşli Likert ölçek, 2012-2013 sonbahar döneminde toplanmıştır. Veriler hem nicel hem nitel olarak toplanmıştır. Öğrencilerin yazma performansları üzerinde blogun etkisini analiz etmek için, ilk üç ve son üç yazma ödevi karşılaştırılmıştır. Öğrencilerin blog a karsı algısını incelemek için, görüşme ve anket uygulanmıştır. Ayrıca, öğrencilerin blog kullanımı konusundaki algısıyla yazma performansları arasında bir ilişki olur olmadığını saptamak için beşli Likert ölçek kullanılmıştır. Çalışma 14 hafta sürmüştür. Sonuçlar, blog ile yazma eğitiminin birleştirilmesinin, öğrencilerin yazma performanslarını geliştirdiğini göstermiştir. Öğrenciler yazma eğitiminde blog kullanılması hakkında olumlu algı kazanmışlardır. Öğrencilerin yazma performanslarıyla, genel algıları arasında önemli bir ilişki bulunamamıştır. Fakat öğrencilerin blog kullanımına karşı isteklendirmeleri ve genel algıları arasında bir bağlantı vardır. Yazma süreci ile yazma performansları arasında önemli bir bağlantı bulunmuştur. Bu durum gösteriyor ki, blog yazım süreci devam ederken, ayni zamanda öğrencilerin yazma performansları da artmıştır. Ayrıca, yazma sureci ile öğrenci isteklendirilmeleri arasında önemli bir ilişki vardır. Bu durum, blog kullanımı sayesinde, öğrencilerin isteklendirilmesinin arttığını göstermiştir. The aim of the study was to investigate the effects of the use of blogs on the Turkish EFL students' writing performances and their perception. 20 Turkish EFL students studying in the School of Foreign Languages, Gazi University participated in the study. The study was carried out in three aspects: (1) the effects of the use of blogs on students' writing performances, (2) the effects of the use of blogs on students' perception, and (3) the correlation of the students' perception of blog application with their writing performances. The data were collected before, during, and after fall term 2012- 2013 by using; (1) six (12 drafts) writing assignments produced by the students, (2) interviews held at the beginning and at the end of the term, and (3) a five point Likert scale questionnaire including 24 items. That is, the data were gathered qualitatively and quantitatively. In order to analyze the effect of blog on students' writing performances, the first three and the last three writing assignments were compared and contrasted. To examine the perception of the students toward blog, both interviews and questionnaires were held. Additionally, five point Likert scale was used to determine whether there was a correlation between the students' perception of blog use and their writing performances. The study lasted 14 weeks. The results indicated that blog integrated writing instruction enhanced students' writing performances. The students had a favourable perception on blog use in writing instruction. There was no significant correlation between overall perception scores and writing performances of the students. However, the overall perception of the students was in correlation with the motivation of the students toward blog use. There was a significant relationship between the writing process and writing performances. That is, while the blog writing procedure was going on, the writing performances of the students were increasing at the same time. Additionally, there was a meaningful relationship between the writing process and motivation, which indicates the increase in the motivation of the students thanks to the use of blog.

Bu çalışmanın amacı tahmin ya da yazılı metnin içinden anlamını .ıkarma gibi bağlamsal kelime öğrenme stratejilerini kullanmanın aktif kelime dağarcığını geliştirmeye etkisi olup olmadığını incelemektir. Çalışma, kelimenin anlamını tahmin ederek bulma tekniğinin bu kelimeyi, bir okuma parçasında görüldüğünde anlamının hatırlanmasının yanı sıra, yazarken de aktif olarak kullanılıp kullanılmadığını ölçmeye odaklanmıştır.Bu çalışma, İngilizceyi yabancı dil olarak öğrenmek üzere bir devlet üniversitesinin hazırlık sınıfında okuyan, 20?si kontrol, 20?si deney grubu olmak üzere orta seviyeden 40 öğrenciye uygulanmıştır. Çalışmanın analizinde, betimleyici istatistiksel değerler yorumlanmış ve deney grubu ile kontrol grubu arasında anlamlı bir fark olup olmadığını görmek amacıyla bir t-test uygulanmıştır.Bu araştırmada, öğrencilerin ders kitabından 4 adet okuma parçası seçilmiş ve deney grubundaki öğrencilere öncelikle kelime tahmin etme konusunda eğitim verilmiş, sonrasında okuma parçalarındaki yeni kelimeleri, belirli ipuçlarına dayanarak anlamlarını tahmin ederek öğrenmeleri sağlanmıştır. Kontrol grubundaki öğrenciler ise kelimeleri ezber tekniği gibi geleneksel yöntemlerle öğrenmişlerdir. Her bir okuma parçasının işlenmesinden sonra, her iki gruba da `okuma sonrası? aktivitesi olarak, okuma parçasının konusunda kendilerinin kısa bir paragraf yazması istenmiştir. Öğrencilerin yazdıkları kısa metinler, yeni öğrendikleri kelimeleri kullanıp kullanmadıklarını anlamak için analiz edilmiştir.Verilerin analizine göre, yeni kelimeleri bağlamsal kelime öğrenme stratejileri ile öğrenen öğrencilerin, onları yazarken daha aktif olarak kullanabildikleri ve hatırlayabildikleri ortaya çıkmıştır. Ancak, ezber ya da ana dilde karşılıklarını yazarak listelemeleri gibi geleneksel yöntemlere başvururlarsa, bu kelimeleri kullanmada daha başarısız oldukları ortaya çıkmıştır. The aim of this present study is to investigate the effect of using contextual vocabulary learning strategies such as guessing or inferring technique on developing active, productive, vocabulary knowledge. It aims to focus on whether guessing technique to learn new vocabulary items is helpful to use them actively in writing, as well as recognizing when encountered in a text.This study was applied with 40 pre-intermediate level students; 20 for experimental, and 20 for control group; who were at preparatory class at a state university to learn English as a foreign language. Descriptive statistical values were interpreted and a t-test was applied in order to see whether there was significant difference between the experimental and the control group.In this study, 4 reading texts were chosen in the coursebook and the students in the experimental group were encouraged to guess the meaning of unknown words by referring to certain clues in the text after the training sessions about contextual vocabulary learning strategies. However, the ones in the control group learnt the words with other traditional techniques such as memorizing or listing. At the end of each reading texts, the students were asked to write a short text with a parallel topic as a post-reading activity. The writings of the students were analyzed to see whether they used the newly-learnt words or not.According to the analysis of the results, the students who learnt new vocabulary items with contextual vocabulary learning strategies are more able to remember and produce them actively in a written context. However, if they consult to traditional techniques such as listing the words with their first language definitions and memorizing, they become less successful while using the same words.

Bu çalışma Ufuk Üniversitesi Hazırlık Okulunda geçmiş yıllardaki hazırlık sınıfı deneyiminin, yaşın ve cinsiyetin yabancı dil kaygısı üzerindeki etkisini araştırmaktadır. Çalışmaya 124 öğrenci katılmıştır. Veriler Aydın (2001) tarafından geliştirilen Türkçe Yabancı Dil Kaygısı Ölçeği ile toplanmıştır. Bunun yanı sıra, çalışma sonuçları yaşın yabancı dil kaygısı üzerinde anlamlı bir etkisi olduğunu ortaya çıkarmıştır. Buna karşılık geçmiş yıllardaki hazırlık sınıfı deneyiminin ve cinsiyetin Ufuk Üniversitesi Hazırlık Okulu öğrencilerinin yabancı dil kaygıları üzerinde anlamlı bir etkisi olmadığı tespit edilmiştir. This study investigates the effects of previous preparatory class experience, age and gender on foreign language anxiety at Ufuk University Preparatory School. 124 preparatory school students have participated in the study. ÖZET Başlığı `Developing a Syllabus for the Fourth and Fifth Grades of the State Schools in Turkey` olan bu çalışma altı bölümden oluşmaktadır. İlk bölüm, çalışmaya temel oluşturan unsurları, çalışmanın amacım, çerçevesi ve sınırlılıkları ile çalışmanın varsayımlarını içermektedir. İkinci bölüm, çocukların öğrenci olarak tanımlarını ve onların biyolojik, bilişsel, ve duygusal özelliklerini kapsamaktadır. Bu bölüm aynı zamanda program geliştirmenin ne olduğunu açıklamakta, yaklaşımları sunmaktadır. Ayrıca izlence tipleri, izlence formadan ve dil öğretim materyallerini incelemektedir. Üçüncü bölüm çocukların öğrenci olarak özelliklerini, Çoklu Zeka Kuramı ve Öğrenme Stilleri Kuramım irdelemektedir. Ayrıca güdü (motivasyon) ve ders planlama ilkeleri bu bölümde yer almaktadır. Dördüncü bölüm mevcut program ve izlenceleri ve bunlara uygun olarak düzenlenmiş materyalleri incelemektedir. Beşinci bölüm, 4. ve 5. sınıflar için izlence önermekte ve önerilen izlenceye örnek unite sunmaktadır. Altıncı ve son bölüm çalışmanın genel özeti ile sonuçlarını kapsamaktadır. Mevcut çalışmanın bir adet eki vardır ve bu ek Talim Terbiye Kurulu tarafından Kabul edilmiş olan mevcut program ve izlencedir. Önerilen izlence gerçekçi amaçlar içermekte; Avrupa Dil Pasaportu' nda belirtilen öğretim düzeylerine uygun hedefler sunmaktadır. Önerilen program çocukların biyolojik, bilişsel, sosyal ve duygusal özellikleri göz önünde bulundurularak uygun öğretim metotlarına gore düzenlenmiştir. Tema, dil becerileri, bağlam, işlevler, yapılar, sözcükler ve telaffuz, ve iş/görev hedefleri olan bu program tutarlı ve bütünlük arz eden bir şekilde düzenlenmiştir. Örnek üniteler çocuklara hitap eden ve daha etkili öğrenmeyi sağlayabilecek özellikler taşımaktadır. ıı ABSTRACT The present study `Developing a Syllabus for the Fourth and Fifth Grades of the State Schools in Turkey` has six chapters. The first chapter covers the background, aim, scope and limitations, and assumptions of the present study. The second chapter, Review of Literature, contains information about the definition of young learners, and their biological, cognitive and affective characteristics. The same chapter includes the definition of course design, approaches to course design, types of syllabus, syllabus formats and ELT materials. Chapter 3 deals with the characteristics of young learners, covers Multiple Intelligences Theory and Learning Styles Theory, motivation, and the principles of planning a lesson for young learners. The fourth chapter displays and analyzes the present syllabus and materials. Chapter 5 provides a suggested syllabus for the 4th and 5th grades. It also covers a sample unit for each. Chapter 6 is designed for the summary and conclusion. The present study has an appendix which is the curriculum designed by Talim Terbiye for the 4th and 5 grades. The suggested syllabus sets appropriate and realistic program goals. It has coordination and articulation across levels of instruction as it is designed in line with the levels mentioned in ELP. It encourages appropriate teaching methodologies for young students considering their biological, cognitive, social and affective characteristics. It is designed as a mixed type syllabus; hence, it covers topics, skills, contexts, functions, structures, vocabulary and pronunciation, and tasks. The objectives follow' a parallel wording, which makes the task of understanding and applying easier. The sample units based on the suggested syllabus are likely to appeal to young learners and guarantee more effective learning. Ill 125

The main concern of the study is to show the significant place of dialogues in teaching English communicatively. Nowadays most textbooks are described by their authors as functional-notional / communicative these terms are contrasted with 'structural 'or 'grammatical 'and represent a powerful trend in modern EFL teaching. Therefore, the methods used in this area will be briefly discussed in Chapter 2. The communicative/ functional -notional language teaching will be examined in detail and be contrasted to Audio-Lingual Method (or situational/ structural language teaching) in Chapter 3. Finally the textbook, Opening Strategies basicly referred to in this study as functional- notional course book includes units in which language functions are presented in the dialogues contextual i zed in situations, such as 'using the Telephone', 'Asking the way', etc. Thus, this chapter will also focus on the teaching of dialogues effectively by showing and using communicative teaching techniques. -1- 112

En genel tanımıyla öğrenme özerkliği, bireyin kendi öğrenme sürecini kendi ellerine almasıdır (Holec, aktaran Smith ve diğerleri, 2008). Farklı disiplinlerden de (örneğin Felsefe, Psikoloji, vb.) beslenen bu tanıma yıllar içerisinde farklı eklemeler yapılmıştır. Dil öğrenmenin, kullanım sıklığı ve amacıyla doğrudan bir ilgisi vardır; bu nedenle öğrenenlerin içinde bulundukları bağlam, dil öğrenmelerinde ve özerk davranışlarında büyük önem taşımaktadır. Bu çalışmanın amacı, öğrenim dili olarak Türkçe belirlenmiş olan bir üniversitede İngilizce Hazırlık sınıfında bulunan öğrencilerin, dil özerkliğine hazır bulunuşluklarını incelemek ve buna uygun olarak, özerkliği geliştirecek bir ders planı sunmaktır. Çalışmanın amaçları doğrultusunda ilk aşamada, öğrenim dili %30 İngilizce olan Ufuk Üniversitesi Hukuk Fakültesi ve Psikoloji Bölümlerinin İngilizce Hazırlık sınıflarında okuyan öğrencilerine, lisedeki geçmiş öğrenim kültürlerini sorgulayan ve daha sonrasında da öğrenme özerkliklerine dair sorular içeren, Karabıyık'ın geliştirdiği (2008) bir anket uygulanmıştır. Anketin hazır bulunuşluk kısmında, özerkliğin beş alt başlığı sayılabilecek sorumluluk alma, karar verme becerisi, motivasyon, özerk aktiviteler ve üstbiliş stratejilerine ilişkin sorular yönlendirilmiştir. Çıkan sonuçlar, farklı istatistiki veri analizi testleriyle SPSS programı kullanılarak incelenmiştir. Çalışmanın ikinci kısmında, yine aynı gruptan seçilen 37 öğrenciye ders geliştirme amaçları doğrultusunda ihtiyaç analizi anketi ve mevcut durum analizi amaçları doğrultusunda da bir takım ölçme araçları uygulanmıştır. Daha sonra, bu sonuçlar doğrultusunda öğrencilerin İngilizce dinleme ve yazma becerilerini geliştirirken aynı zamanda özerklik becerilerini de desteklemeyi hedefleyen sekiz haftalık bir ders tasarlanmıştır. In its broadest sense, learner autonomy is taking in charge of one's own learning (Holec, as cited in Smith et al. 2008). It is nourished by many other disciplines (i.e., Philosophy, Psychology, etc.); and many revisions have been made to the term over the years. Language learning has a strong connection to the frequency and purpose of use; hence, the context that the learners are in has an important role in language learning and autonomous behaviours. The purpose of this study is to investigate the readiness of preparatory school language learners for autonomy in a monolingual tertiary context and design a course proposal to enhance it. As the first part of the study, a questionnaire, designed by Karabıyık (2008), was administered to the participants in order to find out about their learning cultures in high school and their readiness for autonomy in preparatory school. All of the participants were Psychology and Law School students who are at their preparatory school year at Ufuk University, where the medium of instruction is 30% in English. In the readiness part of the questionnaire, questions related to five components of autonomy, namely responsibility, decision-making, motivation, autonomous activities and metacognitive strategies, were addressed. The results of the questionnaire were discussed after running different statistical data analysis tests on SPSS. In the second part of the study, for course design purposes, thirty-seven students were administered a needs analysis questionnaire and a set of testing tools regarding the present situation analysis. This was then followed by an eight-weeks-course which aim to improve learners' listening and writing skills while fostering their autonomy skills. 153

Bu çalışma, İngilizce öğretim görevlilerinin genel öz yeterlik inançlarının öğrencilerin derse katılımını sağlama, sınıf yönetimi ve ders anlatım stratejileri için seviyelerini bulmayı amaçlamıştır. Bu çalışmanın ikinci amacı öğretim görevlilerinin baskın öğretme stillerini araştırmaktır. Üçüncü olarak, çalışma öğrencilerin derse katılımını sağlama, sınıf yönetimi ve ders anlatım stratejilerindeki öz yeterliğin öğretme stillerini yordayıcıları olup olmadığını bulmayı amaçlamıştır. Veriler, Türkiye'deki üniversitelerde görev yapan 323 öğretim görevlisinden, Öğretmen Öz Yeterlik Ölçeği (Tschannen-Moran ve Hoy, 2001) ve Öğretme Stilleri Ölçeği (Grasha, 1996) ile toplanmış ve SPSS sürüm 23 kullanılarak analiz edilmiştir. Katılımcıların öz yeterlik seviyeleri ve baskın öğretim stillerini bulmak için tanımlayıcı analizler yapılmıştır. Öğretim görevlilerinin öz yeterliklerinin ders anlatım stratejilerinde yüksek, öğrencinin derse katılımını sağlamada düşük olduğu ortaya çıkmıştır. Daha çok kolaylaştırıcı öğretim tarzını tercih ettikleri gözlenmiştir. Öğretmen öz yeterlik alt ölçeklerinin öğretim stillerinin yordayıcıları olup olmadığını belirlemek için çoklu regresyon analizleri kullanılmıştır. Sonuçlar, öğrencilerin derse katılımını sağlamadaki yeterliğin kişisel model, kolaylaştırıcı ve temsilci, ders anlatım stratejilerinin ise kişisel model, kolaylaştırıcı ve otoriter öğretme tarzlarının yordayıcısı olduğunu göstermiştir. The second purpose of this study was to explore the dominant teaching styles of EFL instructors. Thirdly, the study aimed to reveal whether self-efficacy for student engagement, classroom management and instructional strategies could predict teaching styles. Data was collected from 323 EFL instructors working at universities in Turkey. Data was gathered by Teacher's Sense of Efficacy Scale (Tschannen-Moran & Hoy, 2001) and Teaching Styles Inventory (Grasha, 1996), and analyzed using SPSS version 23. To identify the instructors' level of self-efficacy and dominant teaching styles, descriptive analyses were conducted. It was revealed that the instructors' level of self-efficacy was highest in instructional strategies, and lowest in student engagement. It was observed that they mostly preferred facilitator teaching style. To determine if subscales of teacher self-efficacy were predictors of teaching styles, multiple regression analyses were employed. The results indicated that efficacy in student engagement could predict personal model, facilitator and delegator teaching styles, and efficacy in instructional strategies was the predictor of personal model, facilitator and formal authority teaching styles. Bu araştırma, İngilizce Hazırlık Birimlerinde görev yapan öğretim görevlilerinin benimsedikleri eğitim felsefelerinin ne olduğunu ve bu tercihlerinin çeşitli değişkenlere göre farklılık gösterip göstermediğini incelemiştir. Bu çerçevede eğitimsel inançların şekillenmesinde etkili olduğu düşünülen mezun olunan bölüm, görev yapılan üniversite türü (devlet/vakıf), kıdem yılı, cinsiyet ve yaş gibi bağımsız değişkenler ile benimsenen felsefe arasındaki ilişkinin ortaya konması hedeflenmiştir. Bu amaca uygun olarak araştırmada betimsel tarama modeli kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın çalışma grubu, 2019-2020 eğitim-öğretim yılında Ankara ilindeki devlet ve vakıf üniversitelerinin İngilizce Hazırlık Birimlerinde görev yapan gönüllü 211 İngilizce öğretim görevlisinden oluşmaktadır. Çalışmada ölçme aracı olarak Wiles ve Bondi (2007, pp. 329-330) tarafından geliştirilen `Philosophy Preference Assessment` isimli likert ölçek kullanılmıştır. Elde edilen verilerin analizinde araştırmanın alt problemleri doğrultusunda uygun istatistik (yüzde, frekans, ortalama, standart sapma) ve nicel veri analizi teknikleri (Mann Whitney U, Kruskall Wallis H Testi) kullanışmış ve bulgular yorumlanmıştır. Çalışmanın sonucunda, deneyselcilik en yüksek ortalamaya sahipken daimiciliğin en düşük ortalamaya sahip olduğu ve ayrıca bağımsız değişkenlerin eğitmenler tarafından benimsenen eğitim felsefesi üzerinde anlamlı bir fark yaratmadığı gözlemlenmiştir. Bu sonucun YDYO programlarına ve öğretim görevlilerinin sınıf içi düzenlemelerine ve dolayısıyla hizmet içi eğitim programlarına katkı sağlayacağı düşünülmektedir. This research aims to determine the educational philosophies adopted by the instructors working at English Preparatory Units and to examine whether these preferences differ according to select variables. Within this framework, the aim is to reveal the relationship between the educational philosophy the instructors adopted and the independent variables such as their BA major, the type of university (state/private) they work for, their years of experience and their gender. The study group of this research comprises of English instructors working at English Preparatory Units of state and private universities in Ankara in the 2019-2020 academic year; the study was conducted with 211 voluntary English instructors. The research data were collected through a likert-type scale called `Philosophy Preference Assessment` developed by Wiles and Bondi (2007, pp. 329-330). In this research, descriptive statistics (frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation) and quantitative data analysis techniques (Mann Whitney U, Kruskall Wallis H) were used and findings were interpreted. The result of the study is that experimentalism has the highest mean while perennialism has the lowest, and also there is not a meaningful relationship between the educational philosophy adopted by the instructors and the select variables. This result is projected as a contribution to the curriculums of school of foreign languages (SFL) and their in-service training programs. 88

Teknoloji hayatımızın her alanında kullanılmaktadır bu yüzden eğitiminin ayrılamaz birparçası olduğu gerçeği şaşırtıcı değildir. Teknoloji ve teknolojik aletlerin kullanımı hemöğrencilere hem de öğretmenlere üretmek, yaratmak, iletişim kurmak ve birbirleriyle işbirliği içinde çalışmak için fırsatlar sunmaktadır. İnternet aynı zamanda öğrencilere sınıfdışında da pratik yapabilme olanağı sağlar bu sebeple İnternet destekli dil öğretiminindoğru uygulanması dil öğretiminde önemlidir. Öğretmenlerin pek çoğu interneti veinternet destekli teknolojileri kullanıyor gibi görünüyorlar ancak bu konudakiyeterlilikleri hakkında çok az bilgi vardır.Şu ana kadar verilen ışığında, bu çalışma İngilizceyi yabancı dil olarak öğreten öğretimgörevlilerinin İnternet destekli dil öğretimin sınıf içinde uygulanması konusundakibilgilerini, bakış açılarını ve algılarını analiz etmeyi amaçlar. Öğretim görevlilerinin internet desteklidil öğretiminin kullanımına karşı tutumlarını tanımlamak için nicel araştırma yöntemiuygulanmış ve bilgiler çevrimiçi bir anket yoluyla toplanmıştır. Anketten toplananbilgiler SPSS 22 uygulanarak analiz edilmiştir.Bu çalışmanın sonucunda öğretmenlerin büyük çoğunluğunun İnternet teknolojilerindenmümkün olduğunca çok faydalanma eğilimi olmasına rağmen bu teknolojileri sınıf içindenasıl uygulayacakları konusunda halen bilgi eksiği olduğu ortaya çıkmıştır. The use of technology andtechnological tools offers many great opportunities for both learners and educators toproduce, create, communicate and cooperate. The Internet also provides learners with theopportunity to practice outside the classroom so the correct instruction andimplementation of Internet-assisted language teaching are essential in language teaching.The majority of teachers seem to use the Internet and Internet-assisted technologies forteaching purposes; however, little is known about their knowledge of the Internet inteaching.In the light of the ideas mentioned so far, this study aims to analyze and identify EFLinstructors' knowledge, perspectives, and perceptions on the integration of Internetassisted language teaching into foreign language classrooms. A total of 103 EFLinstructors employed at preparatory schools of public and private universities in Ankaraparticipated in the survey and responded to the questions about the online resources thatthey make use of while teaching, how they implement Internet-assisted language teachinginstruction and how they rate their knowledge of the Internet technologies in terms ofteaching a foreign language. To identify the attitude of instructors toward theimplementation of Internet-assisted language teaching, a quantitative research methodwas conducted and the data was gathered through an online questionnaire. Data gatheredfrom the questionnaire was analyzed applying SPSS 22.The findings of the study revealed that although the majority of teachers showed atendency to benefit from Internet technologies as much as possible, they still lackinformation on how to exploit them in class. However, mostly external factors limit theimplementation of Internet-assisted language teaching. Results also showed that years ofexperience affect awareness and the use of these technologies in class. Bu çalışma, eğitim yeterlilik becerileri sağlayıcılarının Türkiye'deki farklı eğitim kurumlarındaki çoklu eğitim sağlayıcılarını hedefleyerek, eğitimde önemli etkiye sahip olan kritik kategorileri belirleyerek, Türkiye'nin deki Ulusal İngilizce Eğitimine yönelik tutumlarını, görüşlerini ve algılarını açıklamaktadır. Ayrıca, Türkiye'de özel ve devlet okullarında öğretmen yetiştirme programlarından öğretmen adaylarının ulusal İngilizce eğitimine yönelik eğitim yeterlilik beceri sağlayıcılarının tutumlarını, görüşlerini ve algılarını gözden geçirmek için araştırma soruları ile hedef araştırma grubuna gönderilen anketin sonuçları arasındaki ilişkinin analizine dayanmaktadır. Araştırmanın cevapları anket üzerinde toplamıştır, ayrıca, cevaplar Excel tablosuna aktarılmasıyla analiz edilmiştir ve araştırma sonucu ölçümler ve şekiller olarak sunulmuştur. Ayrıca, çeşitli etkili mesleki gelişim yaklaşımlarının kullanılmasının önemi göz önünde bulundurulmuştur The present study describes the attitudes, opinions, and perceptions of the education qualification skills providers towards the National English Education in Turkey via targeting multiple segments of education providers in diverse workplaces, determined which critical categories that have the significant impact on training. Also, this study is based on the analysis of the relationship between the research questions and the results of the questionnaire sent to the target research group to review the teachers attitudes, opinions, and perceptions of the education qualification skills providers towards the National English Education in Turkey at private and public schools from the program of teachers training . The research tool is a questionnaire and the collected responses will be analyzed by transfer the answers measurements to the Excel sheet and then the research result will be presented as measurements and figures. The study was conducted on some schools in Ankara during the academic year 2017-2018. The number of participants in the questionnaire was 129 participants from public and private schools. The impact of this research study presented as a positive +training program for teacher training was positive for the attitudes and perceptions of the participating teachers. The study suggested implementing principles of high-quality professional development school to engage in teachers' motivation and their perceptions. In addition, taking into consideration the importance of utilizing a variety of effective professional development approaches. 103

Öğrencilerin öğrenme stillerinin nasıl tanımlandığı uzun yıllardır tartışılmaktadırve eğitimde kullanılan farklı modeller mevcuttur. Öğrenme stilleri, öğrenmeyi etkileyenönemli faktörlerden biri olarak kabul edilmektedir, bu nedenle, öğrenme stillerininbelirlenmesi, öğrencilerin okul yaşamındaki başarısını artırmak, eğiticilerinmotivasyonlarını ve eğitim kalitesini artırmak için çeşitli çalışmalara konu olmuştur. Buçalışma, bir özel okulda okuyan 9., 10., 11. ve 12. sınıf lise öğrencilerinin tercih ettiğiöğrenme stillerini belirlemeyi ve bu öğrenme stilleri ile cinsiyet, sınıf düzeyi ve akademikbaşarı arasındaki ilişkiyi incelemeyi amaçlamaktadır. Öğrencilerin genel öğrenmestillerini belirlemenin, yabancı dil öğretmenleri tarafından derslerde öğrencileri içinkullanılabilecek gerekli verileri sağlayacağı düşünülmektedir. Tüm öğrencilerin öğrenmeyeteneğine sahip olduğunu ancak her birinin kendine özgü bir tarzı olduğunu ve bilgilerinedinilmesinin, algılanmasının ve işlenmesinin dört farklı yolun kullanılması yoluylagerçekleştiğini belirten VARK modeli, görsel, işitsel, okuma / yazma ve kinestetik,öğrenme stillerini belirlemek için kullanılmaktadır. Araştırmamızda VARK Modeli 8.01versiyonu kullanılmıştır. Verilerin analizinde SPSS yazılımı kullanılmıştır. Learning styles are regardedas one of the most important factors that affect learning; therefore, the determination oflearning styles is subject to various studies in terms of increasing students' success inschool life, motivation of trainers and quality of education. This study aims to determinethe preferred learning styles of 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grade high school students in aprivate school and to examine the relationship between these learning styles and gender,grade level and academic achievement. It is thought that determining the general learningstyles of the students will provide the necessary data which can be integrated by theforeign language teachers to the lessons. The VARK model, which states that all studentshave the ability to learn, but each has its own different style, and that the acquisition,perception and processing of the information takes place through the use of four differentchannel paths: visual, auditory, reading / writing and kinesthetic, was used to determinelearning styles. SPSS software was used to analyze the data. Since the data of our studywas on a nominal scale, Chi-Square test was used in the analysis of the data. Bu çalışma Milli Eğitime bağlı Ankara Saray Kocalar Anadolu İmam Hatip Lisesinde, dokuzuncu sınıfta öğrenim gören öğrenciler üzerinde bir durum çalışması olarak yürütülmüştür. Bu çalışmada, internet üzerinde oynanan Kahoot! adlı oyunun kelimeleri akılda tutma üzerine etkisi ve öğrencilerin kelime öğreniminde Kahoot! kullanımı konusunda ki düşünceleri araştırılmaktadır. Bulgular öntest-sontest-kontrol grubu tasarımı ile elde edilmiştir. Kontrol grubu, geleneksel yöntemlerle hedef kelimeleri pratik ederken, deney grubu Kahoot! yardımıyla hedef kelimeleri pratik etmiştir. Çalışma dört hafta devam etmiştir. Öntest uygulanarak gruplar arasında kelime bilgisi açısından kayda değer bir fark olup olmadığına bakılmıştır. Hedef kelimelerin kalıcılık ölçümü bir adet hemen sonradan test ve bir adet kalıcılık testi ile yapılmıştır. Araştırma sonunda, deney grubunda bulunan 15 tane öğrenciye Kahoot! hakkında görüşlerini öğrenmek için bir anket uygulanmıştır. Testlerden elde edilen verilere bakılarak gruplar arasında anlamlı bir fark olduğu, Kahoot! kullanılan deney grubunun yapılan testlerde daha çok başarı elde ettiği tespit edilmiştir. Buna ek olarak, öğrenciler Kahoot!'un kelime öğrenmede etkili, eğlenceli, motivasyon artırıcı olduğunu ve hafızada kalıcılığı artırdığını bildirmişlerdir. ocabulary learning and teaching are substantial stipulation to learn a second language. But for the scholars language teaching is challenging and troublesome. Teachers have been searching new techniques and methods to instruct and practise vocabulary since learners have to acquire plenty of words in a short time. Technology presents new techniques and means from which teachers can benefit to teach and practise vocabulary. Traditional vocabulary teaching methods cause boredom, retaining new words with the help of game-based learning is more efficient and entertaining for the learners. So, the new technologic tools have gained popularity among the teachers. This study analyzes the effectiveness of online game called Kahoot! on vocabulary retention. A quantitative research was adopted to obtain the data. The quantitative data have been gathered by using pretest-posttest-control group design. Traditional exercises were used to practise the target words by the control group on the other hand experimental group practised the target words by using online game Kahoot!. 146

Yazılı İngilizce dil öğrenen bir kişinin akademik başarısının önemli bir parçasıdır ancak bazı geleneksel öğretim yöntemleriyle yazma becerisini öğrenmek ve geliştirmek oldukça zordur. Bu nedenle, son zamanlarda Bilgisayar Destekli Dil Öğreniminin ve yapay zeka teknolojisinin yardımıyla, Otomatik Yazı Yazma Değerlendirme programları, dil öğrenen ve öğretenlere yazı yazma becerisinin öğretimi ve öğreniminde yardım etmesi için tasarlanmıştır ve geliştirilmiştir. Bu çalışma, Otomatik Yazı Yazma Değerlendirme programı (CyWrite) kullanımının kısa ve uzun dönemde Yabancı Dil olarak İngilizce öğrenen öğrencilerin yazı yazma becerilerine etkilerini incelemeyi ve bu beceriyi geliştirmelerinde programın nasıl yardımcı olduğunu anlamayı amaçlamıştır. Ayrıca öğrencilerin öğretmenlerinden aldıkları yazılı geribildirim ile sistemden aldıkları otomatik geribildirimler hakkındaki görüşlerinin de alınması amaçlanmıştır. Bu çalışma, sınıf temelli bir araştırma olarak yapılmıştır, bu denenle araştırmacı Otomatik Yazı Yazma Değerlendirme kullanımını yazı yazma ders içeriğine entegre etmiştir. Öğrencileri CyWrite kullanarak paragraf ve kompozisyonlarını yazdıktan sonra araştırmacı, öğrencilerin yazdıklarını gramer ve mekanik hatalarına göre incelemiş ve değerlendirmiştir. Bu çalışmada, karma yöntem kullanılmıştır, bu nedenle hem nicel hem de nitel veriler uygulama öncesi ve sonrası testi, uygulama öncesi ve sonrası öğrenci anketleri ve öğrencilerin yazılı ürünleri ile toplanmıştır. Bu çalışmaya, 2016-2017 akademik yılında Ufuk Üniversitesi Hazırlık Okulunda eğitim gören 15 adet İngiliz Dili Eğitimi öğrencisi katılmıştır. Veri analizinde betimleyici istatistik ve iki örnekli t-testi kullanılmıştır. Sonuçlar, bu program tarafından verilen otomatik geribildirimin kısa dönemde öğrenciler için çok faydalıyken CyWrite kullanımının uzun dönemde çok etkili olmadığını göstermiştir. Ayrıca anketlerin sonuçlarına göre, öğrenciler yazma becerilerini geliştirmede bu programı çok etkili ve yararlı bulmuşlardır. Sonuç olarak, yazma değerlendirmesi ve bu bağlamda teknolojisinin kullanımı konusunda yeteri kadar çalışma olmaması nedeniyle, bu çalışma Türkiye'deki İngiliz Dili Eğitimi alanında önemli olabilir. Written English is an important part of academic success for a language learner, but it is very difficult to learn and improve writing skill with some traditional teaching techniques. Therefore, recently, with the help of Computer-Assisted Language Learning and artificial intelligence technology, Automated Writing Evaluation (AWE) tools have been designed and improved to assist language learners and teachers in teaching and learning writing skill. This study aimed to investigate the effects of the use of an AWE tool (CyWrite) on English as a Foreign Language students' writing skills in the short and long term and find out how it helped them to improve this skill. It also aimed to gain students' perception of written feedback given by their teacher and automated feedback provided by the program. This study was carried out as a classroom-based research, so the researcher integrated AWE usage into her writing course syllabus. After her students wrote their paragraphs and essays by using CyWrite, the researcher analysed and evaluated their written products in terms of grammatical and mechanical errors. In this study, mixed method research was used, so both quantitative and qualitative data were collected through pre- and post-test, pre- and post-implementation student surveys and students written products. 15 ELT students who studied at Ufuk University Preparatory School in 2016-2017 academic year participated in this study. Descriptive statistics and two-sample t-tests were used to analyse the data. The findings demonstrated that the use of CyWrite was not very effective in the long term while automated feedback provided by this tool was very helpful for the students in the short term. In addition, according to the results of surveys, the students found this tool very effective and useful to improve their writing skill. In conclusion, this study may be important in ELT in Turkey because there is not enough study on writing evaluation and technology use in this concept. 196

Bu çalışmada, İngilizce dilindeki özellikle Türk öğrenciler için söz konusu olan konuşma kaygısı probleminin üstesinden, onlar kendileri bir hazırlık yapmaksızın ve öğretmenleri gibi başka bir kişi tarafından müdehale edilmeksizin, 'doğaçlama' tekniği kullanılarak gelinmeye çalışılmıştır. Doğaçlamanın öğrencilerin hedef dili kullanırken yaşadıkları kaygıdan kurtulmalarını nasıl sağladığını ortaya koymak için karma bir araştırma yöntemi uygulanmıştır. Bir yabancı dilin dilbilgisi kuralları olarak tahtada öğretilebileceği bilinmektedir ama sorun öğrencilerin o dili toplum içinde konuşma kaygıları nedeniyle ana dili konuşan birisi gibi doğal biçimde kullanamamalarıdır. Öğrencilerin sınıf ortamında deneyimledikleri İngilizce konuşma kaygı seviyesi hakkında bilgi toplamak için, 18 maddelik bir kaygı anketi durum belirleme çalışmasının başında ve sonunda öğrencilere iki kez uygulanmıştır. İstatistiksel sonuçlar konuşma kaygı ölçeğinde toplanmıştır. Çalışma, 3 hafta boyunca, her hafta 3 saat olmak üzere toplam 9 ders saati 'intermediate' seviyedeki 16 öğrenciyle, her bir derste onlara ikili ve gruplar halinde tartışmaları ve eğer durum gerektirirse rol yapmaları amacıyla farklı durumlar verilerek yürütülmüştür. Durumlar öğrencilere serbest konuşma oturumları olarak verilmeden önce, öğrenciler tek tek bir nihai konuşma sınavına alınmışlardır. Öğrencilerin sınavında üç okutman bulunmuştur. Okutmanlar öğrencilerin performansını Atılım Üniversitesi Temel İngilizce Bölümünde kullanılan nihai konuşma sınavı ölçeğine göre değerlendirmişlerdir. İlk ve son sınavlar arasındaki farkı görmek için araştırmanın sonunda öğrencilere yine aynı sorular sorulmuştur. İstatistiksel sonuçlarla veri toplamak için niceliksel yöntemler kullanılmıştır. Konuşma oturumlarında drama tekniği `doğaçlama`yı kullanmanın bir hedef dili öğrenenlerin çoğunun konuşma kaygı seviyesini azaltabileceği görülmüştür. In this study, the problem of speaking anxiety in English language, especially for Turkish students was tried to be overcome by using the drama technique `improvisation` while they are speaking without any self-preparation and interference by another person such as their teachers. A mixed research method was implemented to find out how improvisation helps learners to get rid of their anxiety while speaking the target language. It is known that a foreign language can be taught as grammatical rules on the board but the problem is that learners cannot use it in natural way as a native speaker does due to their speaking anxiety in public. An 18-item anxiety questionnaire which was prepared to collect information about the student's level of English speaking anxiety that they experience in classroom atmosphere, was administered twice to the students in the case study at the beginning and at the end of the study. The statistical results were gathered in speaking anxiety scale. During 3 weeks, totally 9 lesson hours, 3 hours in each week with 16 intermediate level students, the study was carried out by giving them different situations in each lesson in pairs or groups to discuss the situations and act the roles if the situation presented a role. Before the situations were given to the students as free speaking sessions, the students sat a summative speaking exam one by one. There were three instructors examining the students. The instructors evaluated the students' performance according to the summative speaking exam scale used in the department of Basic English in Atılım University. The same questions were asked to the students again at the end of the study to see the difference between the pre and post summative exams. Quantitative research methods were used to collect the data with the statistical results. It has been seen that using the drama technique `improvisation` in speaking sessions can decrease the level of speaking anxiety for most of the learners of a target language. Bu çalışma derlem temelli materyallerin hazırlık sınıfı öğrencilerinin kelime öğrenmeleri üzerindeki etkisini araştırmıştır. Çalışma aynı zamanda denek grubundaki katılımcıların bağlam temelli kelime öğretimine karşı tutumlarını incelemiştir. Son olarak, bağlam temelli kelime materyallerinin denek grubundaki öğrencilerde kelimeleri akılda tutma oranı üzerindeki etkisi belirlenmiştir. Çalışmaya, Ufuk Üniversitesi hazırlık sınıfı öğrencilerden 50'si katılmıştır. Veriler corpus temelli ve ders kitabı temelli ön testler ve son testlerle toplanmıştır. Ek olarak, denek grubundaki 10 katılımcıyla detaylı veri toplamak amacıyla görüşme yapılmıştır. Testlerin geçerliliğini sağlamlaştırmak için hazırlık sınıfındaki 50 aynı seviye öğrenciye testler uygulanmıştır. Denek grubu ve kontrol grubunun kelime öğrenme başarısında önemli bir fark olup olmadığını tespit etmek için, denek gruba ve kontrol grubuna ön testler ve son testler uygulanmıştır. Son testler uygulandıktan 2 hafta sonra, denek grubundaki katılımcıların kelimeleri akılda tutma seviyesini öğrenmek için son testler yeniden uygulandı. Ön ve son testlerden ve görüşmelerden elde edilen verilerin hem nicel olarak hem de nitel olarak analizi yapılmıştır. Ön testler ve son testlerden elde edilen veriler The Mann-Whitney U test, Paired sample t-test and Independent Sample t-test and Test Analysis Program ile incelenmiştir. Görüşmelerden elde edilen veriler ise içerik analizine tabi tutulmuştur.Araştırmanın bulguları denek grubunun ve kontrol grubunun son testlerdeki sonuçları arasında önemli bir fark olduğunu ortaya koymuştur. Son testlerde, denek grubu kontrol grubuna göre daha yüksek puan almıştır. Ayrıca, görüşmelerin analizi bağlam temelli kelime öğretme materyallerine karşı öğrencilerin pozitif tutumlarını göstermiştir. The study was also explored the perceptions of the learners in the experimental group towards corpus-based vocabulary teaching. Finally, the effect of corpus-based vocabulary materials on the retention rate of the experimental group was identified.50 preparatory school learners at the Ufuk University Preparatory School enrolled the study. The data were collected through corpus-based and course book based pre-tests and post-tests. Additionally, ten participants in the experimental group were interviewed so that in-depth data was collected. In order to assure the reliability of the tests, they were administrated to the 50 same level learners at the Preparatory school. To find out whether there was a significant difference between the vocabulary scores for the experimental group and the control group, a pre-tests and a post-tests were administered to both groups. Two weeks later the last post-tests, they were administrated again to the experimental group to determine retention level of the participants. All the data gathered from the pre-tests, post-tests and interviews were analyzed both quantitatively and qualitatively. The data obtained from the pre and post tests was analyzed with The Mann-Whitney U test, Paired sample t-test and Independent Sample t-test and Test Analysis Program, while the data gathered from the interviews was subjected to content analysis. The findings revealed that there was a significant difference between the results of the experimental group and the control group on the both post-tests: corpus-based and course book based. The experimental group had a higher score on the post-tests than the control group. The analysis of the experimental group interviews also indicated that the learners' positive attitudes towards corpus-based vocabulary materials. Bu çalışmada, Eğitimde Fırsatları Artırma ve Teknolojiyi İyileştirme (FATİH) Projesi kapsamında eğitim öğretim hayatına sunulan akıllı tahta ve tablet bilgisayara karşı öğrencilerin görüşlerinin incelenmesinin yanı sıra yabancı dil olarak öğretimi yapılan İngilizce derslerinde tabletlerin İngilizce kelime öğrenimindeki yerine ilişkin bir karışık method çalışması yürütülmüştür. Çalışmanın örneklem grubunu Erzincan ilinde seviyeleri sınav ile tespit edilmiş aynı şartlara sahip 112 ortaöğretim öğrencisi oluşturmaktadır. Bu öğrencilerin yarısı kontrol grubunu diğer yarısı da deney grubunu temsil etmektedir. Veriler, öğrencilerin derslerde tablet ve akıllı tahta kullanımına ilişkin görüşlerini belirttikleri anketler, kelime bilgi ölçeğinden toplanan istatiksel sonuçlar, kelime öğrenimine yönelik yapılan uygulamalar, sınıf içi gözlemler ve yarı yapılandırılmış anketler sonucunda elde edilmiştir. Öğrencilerin İngilizce derslerinde tablet kullanımına ilişkin görüşleri ile ilgili 12 maddelik anket kelime öğretimine yönelik çalışmanın öncesinde ve sonrasında olmak üzere iki kere uygulanmıştır. Bu yöntem ile amaca yönelik kullanıldığında tabletlerin kelime öğrenme üzerindeki etkisini görmek niyetlenmiştir. Bu çalışmada asıl amaç; mobil öğrenmenin önemini ve kalıcılığını tespit etmekdi. Çalışma daha çok mobil öğrenmeyi destekleyen tablet kullanımını incelediğinden akıllı tahta kullanımına yönelik 24 maddelik anket sadece bir kere ugulanmıştır. Deney grubu üzerinde tabletler kullanılarak yapılan kelime bilgi ölçekleri önce, sonra ve takip olmak üzere 3 kere uygulanmıştır. Bu çalışma hem nicel hem de nitel araştırmaları içerdiğinden karışık bir methoda sahiptir. Nicel araştırma yöntemleri ile elde edilen verilerin analizinde istatistiksel yöntemler kullanılmıştır. In this study, in addition to the examination of the opinions of the students towards Interactive whiteboards and Tablets presented to the education field within the scope of the Project for Increasing Educational Opportunities and Technological Improvement (FATIH) Project, a mixed research method was carried out to study the place of the tablets on vocabulary teaching in English language lesson which was taught as a foreign language. The sample group of the study constitutes 112 secondary school students with the same conditions determined by the level examinations in the province of Erzincan. Half of these students represent the control group and the other half represents the experimental group. The data were collected as a result of the questionnaires in which the students gave their opinions about the use of tablets and interactive whiteboards in the lessons, the statistical results were gathered in vocabulary knowledge scale, the applications used for vocabulary teaching, classroom observations and semi-structured interviews. The 12-item questionnaire on students' opinions about tablet use in English classes was administered twice before and after the study of vocabulary teaching. With this method it is intended to see when they are used according to the aim the effect of the tablets on vocabulary learning. The main purpose of this study is; to determine the importance and permanence of mobile learning. As the study examined the use of tablets to support mobile learning, the 24-item questionnaire for smart board use was conducted only once. Vocabulary knowledge scales for the experiment group were applied 3 times pre, post and follow-up. This study involves both quantitative and qualitative research and therefore has a mixed method. Statistical methods were used in the analysis of data collected with quantitative research methods. CEYLAN, Tuğba. Göreve dayalı öğretim tekniğinin öğrencilerin konuşma ve yazma becerilerini geliştirmedeki etkisi. Ankara, 2016Bu çalışmanın amacı göreve dayalı öğretim tekniğinin öğrencilerin konuşma ve yazma becerilerini geliştirmedeki etkisini araştırmaktır. Ayrıca öğrencilerin ve okutmanların göreve dayalı öğretim tekniği konusundaki algıları incelenmiştir. Çalışmaya farklı bölümlerde çalışacak olan 84 hazırlık sınıfı öğrencisi katıldı. Veriler göreve dayalı öğretim tekniği anketlerinin Türkçe örnekleriyle toplanmıştır. Anketler her bir göreve dayalı etkinlikten sonra uygulanmıştır. Buna ek olarak, hazırlık öğrencilerine İngilizce öğreten 30 okutman bu çalışmada yer aldı ve okutmanların göreve dayalı etkinliklere karşı algıları İngilizce uygulanan anket ile toplanmıştır. Bunun yanında, göreve dayalı etkinlikleri yapan beş öğrenci ve dört okutman ile mülakatlar yapılmıştır. Anketlerden toplanan bilgiler nicelik olarak ve mülakatlardan toplanan veriler nitelik olarak değerlendirilmiştir. Öğrencilerin hem task notları hem de sınav notları karşılaştırılmış ve sonuçlar buna göre yorumlanmıştır. Çalışmanın sonuçları öğrencilerin ve okutmanların göreve dayalı öğretim tekniklerine karşı olan genel tutumlarının pozitif olduğunu ortaya koymuştur. Ayrıca öğrenciler ve okutmanlar ile yapılan mülakat sonuçlarının da pozitif olduğunu göstermiştir. Buna ek olarak, öğrencilerin yazma etkinlik notları ile sınavlarının yazma bölümündeki notları arasında olumlu bir ilişki olduğu ortaya çıkmış ancak öğrencilerin konuşma etkinlik notları ile sınavlarının konuşma bölümündeki notları arasında anlamlı bir ilişki bulunamamıştır. Effectiveness of Task Based Instruction in the improvement of students' productive skills; speaking and writing, Ankara,2016.The purpose of the research was to investigate the effectiveness of Task Based Instruction in improving students' productive skills; speaking and writing. Furthermore, students and instructors' perceptions of Task Based Instruction were examined. In total, 84 prep school students from different departments participated in the study. The data were collected through Turkish version of perception questionnaires of Task Based Instruction. Questionnaires were distributed to the students after each of eight treatment tasks. In addition to this, 30 instructors teaching English to prep school students also participated in the study and the findings of the instructors' perception of Task Based Instruction were collected through the English version of perception questionnaire. Besides, post treatment interviews were conducted with five students and four instructors. Data from questionnaires were analyzed quantitatively and data from interviews were analyzed qualitatively. Both the students' task grades and midterm grades were also compared to find out the effectiveness of tasks and the results were interpreted accordingly.The results demonstrated that the general perceptions of both the students and the instructors towards tasks taken part in their syllabuses were positive and the interviews with the students and instructors also resulted in positive. Additionally, it was also found out that while there was a positive relationship between writing task grades and writing parts of the midterm exam results, there was not a meaningful relationship between speaking task grades and the speaking parts of the midterm results.Key Words: Task-Based Instruction, effectiveness, productive skills 135

Sam Al-asadi. `İletişimsel Konuşma Etkinlikleriyle Konuşmada Akıcılığın Artırılması`, Ankara, 2015 İngilizce öğretimi alanında çalışanlar her zaman dili en akıcı biçimde konuşmayı öğretmenin yollarını aramışlardır. Bu çalışma da, bu amaca ulaşmak için atılan adımlardan biridir ve rol yapma etkinlikleri gibi iletişimsel temelli konuşma etkinliklerinin Iraklı İngilizce öğrenen öğrencilerin konuşma performansında akıcılığı artırıp artırmadığını belirlemeyi hedeflemektedir.Bu amaca ulaşmak için, Irak'taki iki ortaokuldan rastgele seçilen 60 katılımcının yer aldığı deneysel bir araştırma deseni benimsenmiştir. Katılımcılar deney grubu ile kontrol grubu olacak şekilde ikiye ayrılmıştır. İlk olarak, çalışmanın ön testi olarak işlev gösteren bir rol oynama etkinliği yapılmıştır. Sonra iki ay süren deney süreci başlamıştır. Son aşamada başka bir rol oynama etkinliği yapılmıştır ve bu da son test olarak işlev göstermiştir. Verilerin analizi için ilk aşamada, ön testi ve son testi oluşturan rol oynama etkinlikleri Doff'un (1990) sunduğu ölçütlere göre katılımcı öğretmenler tarafından notlanmıştır. Sonrasında bu notlandırmalar analiz için SPSS'e aktarılmış ve istatistiki olarak çözümlenmiştir. English language teaching professionals have always been in search of what makes speaking the language fluently possible. This study is another step taken toward that goal, aiming to find out if it is possible to improve fluency in the speaking performances of Iraqi learners of English with the use of communicative speaking activities such as role-play.In order to realize this aim, an experimental research design is adopted with the 60 participants randomly selected in two Iraqi secondary schools. The participants were grouped into two and identified as the experimental group and the control group. First, a role-play activity, which functioned as the pre-test of the study was practiced. Then what followed was the treatment stage, which lasted two months. Finally, another role-play activity was done in the classroom and it was the post-test, which was to give the indication of a possible increase in students' fluency in speaking.As for the analysis of the data, role-play activities, in other words, the pre- and the post-tests were graded by the coordinating teachers according to Doff's (1990) criteria. Afterwards, the grades were transferred to SPSS and the results were analyzed with the program.Consequently, the study revealed that the use of communicative activities such as role-play activities or problem-solving tasks leads to an increase in fluency of EFL learners' speaking performance.Keywords: ELT, EFL, Iraqi learners, Communicative Language Teaching, Speaking, Fluency 88

Yabancı dil öğretimi yapılan sınıflarda ana dili kullanımı uzun süredir sıkça tartışıla gelen bir konudur. Bazı eğitimciler hem öğretmenlerin hem de öğrencilerin ana dili kullanmaması gerektiği tezini savunurken, diğer bir grup ise yabancı dil öğreniminde ana dili kullanımının yadsınamaz bir katkı sağladığı ve sayısız işlevi olduğu görüşünü savunmaktadırlar.Bu araştırmanın amacı yabancı dil öğretimi yapılan sınıflarda ana dili kullanımı üzerine öğretmen ve öğrenci görüşlerini araştırmak, ana dili kullanımının öğretmenler ve öğrenciler tarafından yabancı dil öğrenirken ne kadar gerekli görüldüğünü belirlemek ve öğretmenlerin ana dili iletişime ve metoda yönelik uygulamalarını ve öğrencilerin ana dili taleplerini incelemektir. Bu çalışma, 2014-2015 eğitim-öğretim yılının bahar döneminde Ankara'da bir devlet ortaokulunda gerçekleştirilmiştir. Çalışmaya altı İngilizce Öğretmeni ve altı İngiliz Dili öğrencisi katılmıştır. Çalışmada nitel analiz metodu kullanılmıştır. Bulgular birebir görüşmeler yoluyla toplanmıştır. Ana dili kullanımına dair öğretmen öğrenci görüşleri arasındaki ilişki içerik analizi yoluyla yorumlanmıştır.Nitel analiz sonuçları ana dili kullanımının yabancı dil öğretiminin ayrılmaz bir parçası olduğunu ancak farklı dil becerileri ve dil bileşenlerinde ve farklı yeterlilik seviyelerinde öğretmenlerin ana dili kullanımı uygulamaları ile öğrencilerin ana dili talepleri arasında önemli bir görüş farklılığı olduğunu ortaya koymuştur. There has been a hot debate upon the use of first language in foreign language classrooms for ages. While some educators assume that mother tongue should not be employed in foreign language classrooms, others state that use of native language provide an incontrovertible contribution to the learning process and carries out intricate functions.The aims of this study were to explore teachers' and learners' attitudes towards employment of L1 in language classes and to determine to what extent they find using L1 in the classroom necessary while teaching or learning a target language and to investigate teachers' practices and learners' demands in terms of use of L1 as a communicative and methodological tool. The present study was conducted at the end of spring semester of 2014-2015 academic year in Ankara in a state primary school. Six English language teachers and six English language learners participated in the study. The study employed qualitative analysis method. The findings were collected through individual interviews. The relationship between English language teachers' opinions and learners' opinions was interpreted through content analysis. The results of the qualitative analysis revealed that first language is an inseparable part of language teaching; however, there is significant difference between teachers' practices of L1 and the learners' demands for L1 in different language skills and language components and at different proficiency levels. Through referring to the current theories of target language acquisition and reviewing the recent literature, it can be recognized that the mother tongue of learners has a necessary and facilitating role in all aspects of language instruction.Key Words: the use of first language, foreign language, teachers' and learners' attitudes. 121

''Beyin temelli öğrenme ve öğretim teknikleri'' eğitimciler tarafından son zamanların en çok araştırılıp önemsenen konusu haline gelmiştir. Bu aslında o kadar yerinde bir gelişmedir ki beyin temelli öğrenme kavramıyla karşılaşan tüm öğretmenler, bu zamana kadar yaptıkları öğretimin verimliliğini sorgulayıp, bazı öğretim alışkanlıklarının değişmesi gerektiğini fark ederler. Öğretmenliklerinin ilk yıllarında olan eğitimciler, genelde ders esnasında yaptıklarının amacını bilmeden, deneyip yanılarak içgüdüsel olarak doğru olan öğretim yolunu bulmaya çalışırlar. Oysaki; beyin temelli yaklaşım hakkında bilgili olan öğretmenler neyi, ne zaman, nasıl ve neden yapmaları gerektiğini bilirler ve daha etkili olan bir öğretime ulaşmış olurlar. Öğrenme eyleminin tamamen beyin ve fonksiyonlarıyla alakalı olduğu düşünülürse, beyin temelli öğretimin kalıcı öğrenme üzerinde ne kadar etkili olduğu görülecektir. Özellikle çocuklarla çalışan öğretmenlerin, yaşadıkları zorlukların üstesinden gelmelerinde oldukça etkili bir yöntemdir. Herkes tarafından bilinir ki çocuklar, dikkatlerini bir konuya toplamakta ve öğrendiklerini bir süre sonra hatırlamakta sorun yaşarlar. Bu duruma ek olarak, yabancı dilde çocuklara öğretim yapmak üstesinden gelinmesi gereken ayrı bir zorluktur. Buna çözüm arayan öğretmenler için beynin nasıl öğrendiğine dair araştırma yapmaları önerilebilir. Çocuklar için İngilizce kelime bilgisinin önemi yadsınamaz bir gerçektir. Bu sebeple, kelime öğretiminin etkinliği, çocuğun o dile olan hakimiyetini direkt olarak etkileyecektir. Bu çalışmada, tüm bu yukarda belirtilen sorunlara çözüm bulmak amacıyla beyin temelli yaklaşımın çocukların İngilizce kelime öğrenme süreçlerinde etkisinin olup olmadığı araştırılmıştır. Araştırma, Ankara'daki Anafartalar Koleji ilkokul 4. sınıf öğrencilerini kapsayıp, tüm bir yıllık eğitim dönemi boyunca gerçekleştirilmiştir. Farklı iki sınıftaki öğrenciler üzerinde farklı yöntem ve teknikler kullanılarak, uygulanan testlerle birlikte aradaki fark ortaya konulmaya çalışılmıştır. Bir sınıfta, ana dile çeviri gibi klasik yöntemlerle İngilizce kelime öğretimi yapılırken, diğer sınıfta tamamen beyin temelli yaklaşıma göre öğretim yapılmıştır. Her iki sınıfta da aynı kelimeler aynı zamanda verilmiş olup, sene sonunda öğrencilerin kelimeleri hatırlama oranları bir testle ölçülmüştür. Elde edilen sonuçlar neticesinde beyin temelli yollarla öğretim gören öğrencilerin, klasik yöntemlerle öğretim gören öğrencilere kıyasla kelimeleri hatırlama ve doğru kullanmada daha başarılı olduğu ortaya çıkmıştır. Ayrıca, beyin temelli yaklaşımın uygulandığı sınıfta, öğrencilerin derse katılma bakımından çok daha istekli oldukları; ders esnasında sınıf içi huzur, mutluluk ve motivasyonun daha yüksek olduğu gözlemlenmiştir. ''Brain based learning and teaching techniques'' recently have been the greatest research and appreciated topic by the educators. Actually, this is such a righteous evolution that all teachers, who encounter with the term of brain based learning, realize that some of their teaching habits need to be changed by questioning the effectiveness of their teaching so far. Educators, at the first years of their teaching, usually try to find the right ways of teaching by trying and making mistakes instinctively without knowing the aim of what they do during the lesson. However, the teachers, who are informed about the bain based approach, know what to do, when to do, how to do and why to do and they achieve a more effective way of teaching. Thinking that the action of learning is related to the brain and its functions, how effective the brain based teaching is on the permanent learning will be seen. This is a very effective technique especially for the the teachers, who work with children, to overcome the challenges they have. It is known by everyone that children have difficulty in concentrating on a topic and remembering the things they learn after a while. In addition to this, teaching to children in a foreign language is another challenge to be overcomed. For the teachers, who try to find solutions for these challenges, it may be suggested that they search about how the brain learns. The importance of vocabulary knowledge for young learners is an undeniable fact. For this reason, the efficiency of teaching vocabulary will effect the learner's competency in that language directly. In this study, in order to find solutions to the problems stated above, whether the brain based approach has an affect on young learners' processes of vocabulary learning was researched. The research involves the 4. grade students of Anafartalar primary school in Ankara and it was implemented in a whole year education term. The differences were revealed by using different ways and techniques on the students of two different classes with the tests applied. While classical ways of teaching such as translation to the native language, were used in a class, in the other class all teaching process was planned according to the brain based approach. In both of the classes the same kind of words were taught at the same time and at the end of the year, the percentages of students' remembering the words were assessed with a test. According to the results, it was revealed that the students, who got brain based teaching education, were more successful in rememberig and using the words correctly compared to the students, who got a classical ways of teaching process. Moreover, in the class, where brain based teaching strategies were used, it was observed that the students were more willing in terms of participating in the lesson and the feelings of peace, happiness and motivation were much higher during the lesson. 115

İngilizce Okutmanlarının Öğrenen Özerkliğine Karşı İnanç ve Uygulamalarının Belirlenmesi, Yüksek Lisans Tezi, Ankara, 2014.Bu çalışma Gazi Üniversitesi Yabancı Diller Yüksekokulu İngilizce okutmanlarının öğrenen özerkliğiyle ilgili inançlarını ve uygulamalarını araştırmak amacıyla yapılmıştır.Araştırma 64 okutmanın katılımıyla gerçekleştirilmiştir. Çalışmaya ait veriler, anketler ve röportajlar aracılığıyla toplanmıştır. Çalışma da kullanılan anket 5 ana bölümden oluşmaktadır. Birinci bölüm öğrenen özerkliğiyle alakalı 10 kavramı kapsayan 37 maddelik beşli likert ölçeğinden oluşmaktadır. İkinci bölüm öğrencilerin çeşitli becerilerinin ve dersle ilgili kararlara dahil edilmelerinin öğretmenler tarafından ne kadar istenildiği ve bunun ne kadar uygulanabilir olduğu üzerinde yoğunlaşmaktadır. Üçüncü bölümde öğretmenlere öğrencilerinin ne kadar özerk oldukları ve dil öğretiminde özerkliği ne ölçüde destekledikleri sorulmuştur. Dördüncü bölümde öğretmenlerin demografik bilgileri toplanmıştır. Beşinci bölümde ise öğretmenlerin çalışmanın ikinci bölümüne katılmak isteyip istemedikleri sorulmuştur. Identifying EFL Instructors' Beliefs and Practices on Learner Autonomy, Master' s Thesis, Ankara, 2014.The aim of this study was to investigate the beliefs and practices regarding learner autonomy of EFL instructors at Gazi University The School of Foreign Languages.The study was conducted with 64 instructors and the data was collected through questionnaires and interviews. The questionnaire had five major sections. Section 1 consisted of 37 five point Likert-scale items, covering ten concepts in learner autonomy. Section 2 focused on teachers' views about the desirability and feasibility of various learner abilities and learner involvement in language course decisions. Section 3 centered upon teachers' beliefs about how autonomous their learners were and on the extent to which they promoted autonomy in their teaching. The fourth part of the questionnaire gathered the demographic information of teachers. Section 5 asked teachers to volunteer for the second phase of the study. Finally, the interviews were conducted with the teachers who stated their voluntariness at the final part of the questionnaire. The findings of this study revealed that the instructors have favorable opinions and different perspectives on learner autonomy. They are in favor of involving their learners in the learning process and they support their learners to take the responsibility of their own learning. They generally promote learner autonomy with their learners; however, they do not feel much positive about their learners' efforts on development of autonomy. Bu çalışma, üniversitelerdeki hazırlık öğrencilerinin motive edici öğretmen davranışları hakkındaki algılarını araştırmayı amaçlamıştır. Ayrıca, çalışma öğrencilere göre en çok ve en az motive edici öğretmen davranışlarını da araştırmıştır. Buna ek olarak, çalışmada, öğretme yöntemlerinin öğrenci motivasyonu üzerindeki etki ve öğretmen davranışlarının algılanmasında bayan ve erkek öğrencilerin görüşlerindeki farlılıklar da incelenmiştir. Bu kapsamda, öğrencilerin motive edici öğretmen davranışları hakkındaki algılarını öğrenmek için bir çalışma yapılmıştır. Çalışmaya, 2013-2014 eğitim öğretim yılında, Gazi Üniversitesi, Hacettepe Üniversitesi, Orta Doğu Teknik Üniversitesi, Atılım Üniversitesi ve Ufuk Üniversitesi hazırlık sınıflarından toplam 351 öğrenci katılmıştır. Daha detaylı veri toplamak için 16 öğrenci ile görüşmeler yapılmıştır. Çalışmadan toplanan veriler nitel ve nicel olarak analiz edilmiştir.Çalışmanın sonuçları, öğretmenin kişisel özellikleri ile ilgili davranışların öğrenciler tarafından en çok motive edici davranışlar olarak algılandığını göstermiştir. Bunun yanı sıra, öğrenciler, öğretmenin ders anlatma tarzı ile alakalı davranışları çok motive edici bulmamışlardır. Ayrıca, bayan öğrencilerin öğretmenin ders anlatma tarzı, ödev verme ve değerlendirme konusundaki algıları daha olumlu iken, diğer faktörlerde (öğretmenin bireysel özellikleri, öğretmenin öğrencilere yaklaşımı, öğretmenin değerlendirme yöntemleri ve hatalara karşı yaklaşımı) bayan ve erkek öğrencilerin görüşlerinde anlamlı bir farklılık yoktur. Additionally, it explored the most and the least motivating teacher behaviors according to the students. In addition, the impact of the teaching methodology on students' motivation and the differences between female and male students' perceptions of the teacher behaviors were examined in the study. In this context, a study was conducted to find out the students' perceptions of the teacher motivational behaviors. Accordingly, 351 students participated in the study. The students who participated in the study were the preparatory students of Gazi University, Hacettepe University, Middle East Technical University, Atilim University and Ufuk University in 2013-2014 academic year. Moreover, in order to have detailed data, interviews were conducted with 16 students. The data gathered from the study were analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively.The findings of the data revealed that the behaviors which were related to teacher's personal features were found to be the most motivating ones by the students. On the other hand, learners didn't find the behaviors concerning teacher's lecturing style very motivating. Besides, while the female students' perceptions were more positive about teacher's lecturing style and giving and evaluating homework, for the other factors (teacher's personal features, teacher's rapport with students and teacher's error correction and evaluation techniques) there was not a significant difference between both female and male students' perceptions. Bu çalışmanın amacı, blog kullanımının, İngilizceyi yabancı dil olarak öğrenen Türk öğrencilerinin yazma performansları ve algıları üzerindeki etkilerini incelemektir. Çalışmaya, Gazi Üniversitesi, Yabancı Diller Yüksek Okulundan, İngilizceyi yabancı dil olarak öğrenen 20 Türk öğrenci katılmıştır. Çalışma üç açıdan ele alınmıştır: (1) blog kullanımının öğrencilerin yazma performansı üzerindeki etkisi, (2) blog kullanımının öğrencilerin algıları üzerindeki etkisi ve (3) öğrencilerin blog kullanımındaki algılarıyla yazma performansları arasındaki ilişki. Veriler, (1) öğrenciler tarafından hazırlanmış altı adet yazma ödevi, (2) dönem başında ve dönem sonunda yapılmış görüşmeler ve (3) 24 maddelik beşli Likert ölçek, 2012-2013 sonbahar döneminde toplanmıştır. Veriler hem nicel hem nitel olarak toplanmıştır. Öğrencilerin yazma performansları üzerinde blogun etkisini analiz etmek için, ilk üç ve son üç yazma ödevi karşılaştırılmıştır. Öğrencilerin blog a karsı algısını incelemek için, görüşme ve anket uygulanmıştır. Ayrıca, öğrencilerin blog kullanımı konusundaki algısıyla yazma performansları arasında bir ilişki olur olmadığını saptamak için beşli Likert ölçek kullanılmıştır. Çalışma 14 hafta sürmüştür. Sonuçlar, blog ile yazma eğitiminin birleştirilmesinin, öğrencilerin yazma performanslarını geliştirdiğini göstermiştir. Öğrenciler yazma eğitiminde blog kullanılması hakkında olumlu algı kazanmışlardır. Öğrencilerin yazma performanslarıyla, genel algıları arasında önemli bir ilişki bulunamamıştır. Fakat öğrencilerin blog kullanımına karşı isteklendirmeleri ve genel algıları arasında bir bağlantı vardır. Yazma süreci ile yazma performansları arasında önemli bir bağlantı bulunmuştur. Bu durum gösteriyor ki, blog yazım süreci devam ederken, ayni zamanda öğrencilerin yazma performansları da artmıştır. Ayrıca, yazma sureci ile öğrenci isteklendirilmeleri arasında önemli bir ilişki vardır. Bu durum, blog kullanımı sayesinde, öğrencilerin isteklendirilmesinin arttığını göstermiştir. The aim of the study was to investigate the effects of the use of blogs on the Turkish EFL students' writing performances and their perception. 20 Turkish EFL students studying in the School of Foreign Languages, Gazi University participated in the study. The study was carried out in three aspects: (1) the effects of the use of blogs on students' writing performances, (2) the effects of the use of blogs on students' perception, and (3) the correlation of the students' perception of blog application with their writing performances. The data were collected before, during, and after fall term 2012- 2013 by using; (1) six (12 drafts) writing assignments produced by the students, (2) interviews held at the beginning and at the end of the term, and (3) a five point Likert scale questionnaire including 24 items. That is, the data were gathered qualitatively and quantitatively. In order to analyze the effect of blog on students' writing performances, the first three and the last three writing assignments were compared and contrasted. To examine the perception of the students toward blog, both interviews and questionnaires were held. Additionally, five point Likert scale was used to determine whether there was a correlation between the students' perception of blog use and their writing performances. The study lasted 14 weeks. The results indicated that blog integrated writing instruction enhanced students' writing performances. The students had a favourable perception on blog use in writing instruction. There was no significant correlation between overall perception scores and writing performances of the students. However, the overall perception of the students was in correlation with the motivation of the students toward blog use. There was a significant relationship between the writing process and writing performances. That is, while the blog writing procedure was going on, the writing performances of the students were increasing at the same time. Additionally, there was a meaningful relationship between the writing process and motivation, which indicates the increase in the motivation of the students thanks to the use of blog. 122

Bu çalışmanın amacı tahmin ya da yazılı metnin içinden anlamını .ıkarma gibi bağlamsal kelime öğrenme stratejilerini kullanmanın aktif kelime dağarcığını geliştirmeye etkisi olup olmadığını incelemektir. Çalışma, kelimenin anlamını tahmin ederek bulma tekniğinin bu kelimeyi, bir okuma parçasında görüldüğünde anlamının hatırlanmasının yanı sıra, yazarken de aktif olarak kullanılıp kullanılmadığını ölçmeye odaklanmıştır.Bu çalışma, İngilizceyi yabancı dil olarak öğrenmek üzere bir devlet üniversitesinin hazırlık sınıfında okuyan, 20?si kontrol, 20?si deney grubu olmak üzere orta seviyeden 40 öğrenciye uygulanmıştır. Çalışmanın analizinde, betimleyici istatistiksel değerler yorumlanmış ve deney grubu ile kontrol grubu arasında anlamlı bir fark olup olmadığını görmek amacıyla bir t-test uygulanmıştır.Bu araştırmada, öğrencilerin ders kitabından 4 adet okuma parçası seçilmiş ve deney grubundaki öğrencilere öncelikle kelime tahmin etme konusunda eğitim verilmiş, sonrasında okuma parçalarındaki yeni kelimeleri, belirli ipuçlarına dayanarak anlamlarını tahmin ederek öğrenmeleri sağlanmıştır. Kontrol grubundaki öğrenciler ise kelimeleri ezber tekniği gibi geleneksel yöntemlerle öğrenmişlerdir. Her bir okuma parçasının işlenmesinden sonra, her iki gruba da `okuma sonrası? aktivitesi olarak, okuma parçasının konusunda kendilerinin kısa bir paragraf yazması istenmiştir. Öğrencilerin yazdıkları kısa metinler, yeni öğrendikleri kelimeleri kullanıp kullanmadıklarını anlamak için analiz edilmiştir.Verilerin analizine göre, yeni kelimeleri bağlamsal kelime öğrenme stratejileri ile öğrenen öğrencilerin, onları yazarken daha aktif olarak kullanabildikleri ve hatırlayabildikleri ortaya çıkmıştır. Ancak, ezber ya da ana dilde karşılıklarını yazarak listelemeleri gibi geleneksel yöntemlere başvururlarsa, bu kelimeleri kullanmada daha başarısız oldukları ortaya çıkmıştır.Anahtar sözcükler: Dil öğretimi, kelime öğrenme stratejileri, tahmin tekniği, aktif kelime dağarcığı The aim of this present study is to investigate the effect of using contextual vocabulary learning strategies such as guessing or inferring technique on developing active, productive, vocabulary knowledge. It aims to focus on whether guessing technique to learn new vocabulary items is helpful to use them actively in writing, as well as recognizing when encountered in a text.This study was applied with 40 pre-intermediate level students; 20 for experimental, and 20 for control group; who were at preparatory class at a state university to learn English as a foreign language. Descriptive statistical values were interpreted and a t-test was applied in order to see whether there was significant difference between the experimental and the control group.In this study, 4 reading texts were chosen in the coursebook and the students in the experimental group were encouraged to guess the meaning of unknown words by referring to certain clues in the text after the training sessions about contextual vocabulary learning strategies. However, the ones in the control group learnt the words with other traditional techniques such as memorizing or listing. At the end of each reading texts, the students were asked to write a short text with a parallel topic as a post-reading activity. The writings of the students were analyzed to see whether they used the newly-learnt words or not.According to the analysis of the results, the students who learnt new vocabulary items with contextual vocabulary learning strategies are more able to remember and produce them actively in a written context. Bu çalışma Ufuk Üniversitesi Hazırlık Okulunda geçmiş yıllardaki hazırlık sınıfı deneyiminin, yaşın ve cinsiyetin yabancı dil kaygısı üzerindeki etkisini araştırmaktadır. Çalışmaya 124 öğrenci katılmıştır. Veriler Aydın (2001) tarafından geliştirilen Türkçe Yabancı Dil Kaygısı Ölçeği ile toplanmıştır. Ölçek öğrencilere Ufuk Üniversitesi anket sistemi vasıtasıyla internet üzerinden uygulanmıştır. Nicel verilerin analizi Ufuk Üniversitesi Hazırlı Okulu öğrencilerinin orta derecede yabancı dil kaygısına sahip olduklarını ortaya çıkarmıştır. Bunun yanı sıra, çalışma sonuçları yaşın yabancı dil kaygısı üzerinde anlamlı bir etkisi olduğunu ortaya çıkarmıştır. Buna karşılık geçmiş yıllardaki hazırlık sınıfı deneyiminin ve cinsiyetin Ufuk Üniversitesi Hazırlık Okulu öğrencilerinin yabancı dil kaygıları üzerinde anlamlı bir etkisi olmadığı tespit edilmiştir. This study investigates the effects of previous preparatory class experience, age and gender on foreign language anxiety at Ufuk University Preparatory School. 124 preparatory school students have participated in the study. Data were collected through the Turkish version of the Foreign Language Classroom Anxiety Scale (FLCAS), which was developed by Aydın (2001). The questionnaire was administered online to the students via the Ufuk University online questionnaire system. The analysis of the quantitative data revealed that Ufuk University Preparatory School students had moderate levels of foreign language anxiety. Moreover, the results indicated that age had a significant effect on foreign language anxiety. On the other hand, previous preparatory class experience, and gender were found to have no significant influence on foreign language anxiety levels of Ufuk University Preparatory School students. 83

Objective: To investigate the effect of laser photostimulation in rehabilitation of human digital flexor tendons with a placebo-controlled double-blind prospective study model. Background Data: Low-energy laser therapy has been applied in several rheumatoid and soft tissue disorders with a varying rate of success and it has also been shown to have a positive effect on tendon healing in animal experiments, but no clinical study on laser photostimulation in the treatment of human tendons has been reported to date. Materials and Methods: This study was performed in a total of 25 patients with 41 digital flexor tendon injuries in five anatomical zones. In Group I (21 digits in 13 patients), whirlpool and infrared GaAs diode laser with a frequency of 100 Hz. was applied between the 8(th) and 21(st) days postoperatively and all patients were given the Washington rehabilitation program until the end of the 12(th) week. In Group II (20 digits in 12 patients), the same treatment protocol was given but the laser instrument was switched off during applications. Results: The results of the study showed a significant improvement in the laser-treated group only for the parameter of edema reduction (p < 0.01) but the difference between the two groups was non-significant for pain reduction, hand grip strength, and functional evaluation performed according to Strickland and Buck-Gramcko systems using total active motion and fingertip-to distal palmar crease distance parameters (p > 0.05). Conclusions: Significant improvement obtained in edema reduction both immediately and 12 weeks after supplementary GaAs laser application in our study has been interpreted as an important contribution to the rehabilitation of human flexor tendon injuries because edema is known to have a detrimental effect on functional recovery during both early and late stages of tendon healing. However, our study has failed to show a significant positive effect of supplementary GaAs laser application on the other functional recovery parameters of human flexor tendon injury rehabilitation and we suggest further clinical study in this topic be done using different laser types and dosages in order to delineate the role of this promising treatment modality.
