Objective: Infantile hemangiomas (IH) are the most common benign vascular tumors of infancy. Propranolol (P), a nonselective beta-blocker, has been successfully used in managing IHs. Ongoing studies investigate the efficacy of the topical β-antagonist timolol maleate (TM) in IHs. The aim of this study is to assess the effects of interventions for managing infantile hemangiomas in children. Material and Methods: We retrospectively reviewed a total of 403 IH patients from March 2021 to March 2022. The patients were stratified into three groups. Patients in Group 1 were given TM at a dose of one drop topically twice a day, 0.5%. Patients in Group 2 were given P at a dose of 1 mg/kg twice a day. The patients in Group 3 did not receive any treatment, and observation was conducted solely by contacting the controls. Results: The median age of diagnosis was 5 months (range 0-60), with 57.1% of the cases being male. While TM treatment was applied to 32% of the children and P treatment was applied to 46.9% of the children, no treatment was administered in 21.1%. The most common location of hemangiomas was the face, accounting for 39.2%. Hemangiomas were observed in more than one location in 48 (12%) children. The median follow-up period for the patients was 4 months (range 0-28). Hemangiomas remained unchanged in 28.3% of all cases, shrank in 60.3%, and continued to grow in 11.4%. The primary indication for initiating TM was superficial hemangiomas and infants younger than 6 months. The leading reason for starting P significantly higher than in the other groups (p:0.001). No statistically significant differences were observed between the groups regarding bleeding and ulceration rates (p>0.05). Conclusion: The efficacy of propranolol in treating IH was higher than that of TM.

The present study aimed to investigate the effects of chitosan application on the yield and quality of rockets. "Bengi" rocket variety was used as a plant material and chitosan was applied to leaves at four different doses (0 (control)-75-150-300 ppm). The results revealed that the yield values varied between 1691-1914 g m-2, plant height between 24.33-27.92 cm, and leaf width between 4.56-5.71 cm among the applications. The total dry matter, chlorophyll, total phenolics, vitamin C, and antiradical activity values were determined to range between 7.71% and 8.68%, 34.15 and 36.68 SPAD, 104.67 and 180.84 mg 100 g-1, 126.63 and 143.51 mg 100 g-1, and 63.77% and 71.87%, respectively. The highest total phenolic and antiradical activity values were obtained at the 300 ppm application and the highest vitamin C values were obtained from the control group. a* and h° values varied between -17.87 to -18.71 and 124.09 to 125.78. Chitosan applications decreased nitrate accumulation compared to the control group. It was determined that the 75 ppm chitosan dose used in the study was better in terms of yield, plant height, leaf width, total dry matter, chlorophyll, a*, h°, and nitrate accumulation parameters and was the recommended dose for rocket cultivation. Background: Advances in stem cell transplantation have resulted in improved outcomes. Methods: This is a retrospective study aimed to analyze changes in patient profile, transplantation, graft characteristics, and outcome among 241 pediatric patients who received stem cell transplantation in a single center between 1993 and 2019. Results: In the 2010–2019, compared with the 1993–2009 period, a significantly higher 5‐year overall survival (60% vs. 44%, p =.022) and an event‐free survival (53% vs. 34%, p =.025) were observed. Cumulative incidence of deaths due to relapse or progression between the 1993–2009 and 2010–2019 periods were 33% and 26% respectively (p =.66). Cumulative incidence of non‐relapse mortality was significantly higher during the 1993–2009 period compared with the 2010–2019 period for malignant diseases (57.7% vs. 28.3%, p =.007). The overall survival from acute graft‐versus‐host disease between 1993 and 2009 was 11% versus 46% between 2010 and 2019 (p =.0001). The overall survival from infection in both eras did not show any difference (p =.41). Conclusions: Development in transplantation technology has led to a decrease in non‐relapse mortality and better control of graft‐versus‐host disease. However, relapse and infection remained as major causes of death. Studies evaluating institutional trends in patients undergoing HSCT and analyzing their mortality profile, can improve the management of patients, leading to a reduction in transplant‐related problems. The aim of the research is to examine the impact of the sustainable tourism attitudes of the local people of Kuşadası on their intention to support sustainable tourism development. In this context, data were collected using the questionnaire technique, one of the quantitative research methods. The population of the research consists of the local people residing in Kuşadası. Between 28.03.2023 and 15.05.2023, 390 questionnaires were collected online using the convenience sampling method and evaluated. To measure the sustainable tourism attitudes of the local people, short version of the Sustainable Tourism Attitude Scale (SUSTAS), which consists of 7 dimensions and 21 expressions, developed by Sirakaya Turk and Gursoy (2013) and in order to measure the intention of local people to support sustainable tourism development, a scale consisting of 6 statements and one dimension developed by Nicholas, Thapa and Ko (2009) was used. The obtained data were analyzed with the partial least squares path analysis method. For this purpose, version 4 of the SmartPLS software was used. According to the results of the research, it has been determined that the attitudes of the local people environmental sustainability, maximizing community participation, community based tourism, ensuring visitor satisfaction have significant positive effect on supporting tourism development. Macedonian and former Serbian regions of the Ottoman Empire. Serbia, which expanded its borders with the Treaty of Berlin in 1878, but lost Bosnia, which had historical ambitions, to Austria-Hungary, had to turn its direction to the south. However, it found Bulgaria and Greece in the face of its aims to expand to the south. Serbia, which declared war on Bulgaria and was defeated by the annexation of Eastern Rumelia by the Bulgarians, also struggled with the Bulgarians in Macedonia. Although he tried to come to terms with the Greeks, this did not happen. Bulgaria and Greece were fighting in the field of church and school in Macedonia and they had established various associations. In Serbia, he founded the Saint Sava Society in order to open as many schools as possible in Macedonia and Kosovo and to neutralize the Bulgarian propaganda. The Ottoman State carefully followed the activities of the society in its own lands through the Belgrade envoys. St. Sava Society, which has the motto "My member brother is my friend, no matter what religion", worked actively from its establishment until 1891. During the reign of Prince Milan Obrenovic, the Herzegovina Revolt of 1875 broke out. First of all, Prince Milan, who avoided being involved in this revolt, could not resist the war-like atmosphere in his country and declared war against the Ottoman Empire on July 1, 1876. Prior to the war, the greatest support for Prince Milan, who brought the Russian General Chernayef to the head of his army, was given by Russia. Especially Slavic committees provided financial and volunteer assistance. Russian people also provided financial and moral aid, and these aids were published in the newspapers, which was aimed to spread the aid to the most remote places. In addition, Bulgarian volunteer units were established, and necessary means were provided to reach Serbia via Hocabek. Although Romania and Greece were neutral in the war, they acted suspiciously. In particular, the Romanians permitted the voluntary transition in their territory. The Serbs of the Austro-Hungarian Empire also supported the Serbs. However, Hungary banned Serbs living there to go to Serbia. There were also volunteers from the subjects of the Ottoman Empire. Especially, the Russian Embassy doctor in Istanbul and the Plovdiv Consul took the initiative in recruiting volunteers. They secretly sent the Bulgarian volunteers to Serbia. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: We aimed to investigate the status of POM121 gene expression, which is one of the nuclear pore proteins in childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemias (ALL), compared with the normal population, and its relationship with prognosis and other clinical findings. Materials and Methods: Fifty-nine patients with ALL followed up and treated between January 2008 and November 2013, and 36 control subjects were included in the study. A real-time PCR method was used to detect POM121 gene expressions. Results: The mean value of POM121 expression was 3.75±2.91 in ALL patients and 3.32±3.76 in the control group. The 3 and 10 year overall survival (OS) was better in ALL with lower POM121 expression (77%, 70% versus 68%, 58%, respectively). Although the OS was better in BALL patients, with lower POM121 expression (84%, 75% versus 54%, 46%, respectively), in T-ALL, in contrast, the OS results were better in patients with a higher POM121 expression (90%, 90% versus 60%, 60%, respectively). Patients with a higher POM121 expression than the mean of the control group and who had relapse and central nervous system involvement had statistically significantly lower OS results in the 3rd and 10th years (16%, 0% versus 84%, 78%, respectively). Conclusion: High POM121 expression negatively affects the prognosis in patients with ALL. This is a study to show the relationship between POM121 expression and prognosis in childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemias, POM121 function will be clarified further with more comprehensive studies.
