Background: Approximately half of the children with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder continue to meet diagnostic criteria in adulthood. The prevalence of adult attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder is reported between 2.5% and 4.4% and is associated with significant impairment in quality of life and increased psychiatric comorbidity. Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder in adults remains mostly undiagnosed and/or untreated despite the availability of effective treatments. The majority of people who do not receive necessary treatment are in the nonclinical or nonpsychiatric clinical population. Screening is an important step for diagnosing adults with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder. Yet, there are no valid and reliable screening questionnaires calibrated for the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual for Mental Disorders-5 in Turkish. Aims: We aimed to test the reliability and the validity of the Adult Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Self-Report Scale-5 screening questionnaire designed according to DSM-5 in the Turkish population. Study Design: Methodological and cross-sectional study. Methods: The translation was carried out according to the World Health Organization Composite International Diagnostic Interview translation guide using a linguistic adaptation approach. We used a convenience sampling method to recruit an individual with adult attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (n = 68) and a control group (n = 68). The participants completed a sociodemographic form, 6-items Adult Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Self-Report Scale-5, and the previous version 18-items Adult Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Self-Report Scale-v1.1 for the concurrent validity analysis. For the diagnostic validity, clinical diagnosis made by psychiatrists according to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual for Mental Disorders-5 criteria was used. Internal consistency and item-total correlation coefficients, exploratory factor analyses, correlation with Adult Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Self-Report Scale-v1.1, and receiver operating characteristic curve analysis were conducted. Results: The internal consistency measured by Cronbach alpha was 0.869. Item-total correlation coefficients were calculated to be between 0.602 and 0.717, and the correlations were statistically significant (P < 0.0001). The Adult Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Self-Report Scale-5 showed to have a unidimensional factor structure explaining 60.54% of the variance. The correlation between Adult Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Self-Report Scale-5 and Adult Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Self-Report Scale-v1.1 total score was calculated as 0.992 (P < 0.0001), and that between Adult Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Self-Report Scale-5 and Adult Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Self-Report Scale-v1.1 attention-deficit subdimension was 0.868 (P < 0.0001). In the receiver operating characteristic analysis of Adult Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Self-Report Scale-5, the area under the curve was found to be 0.916. The cut-off score was calculated as 9 of 10 with a sensitivity of 85.2% and specificity of 89.7%. Conclusion: Adult Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Self-Report Scale-5 is a valid and reliable self-report measure to assess and screen attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder in the Turkish population. It may be useful for both clinical and population studies.

This study aimed to compare the depression and grief levels between patients with persistent complex bereavement disorder who have alexithymia and those who do not have alexithymia. This study also aimed to examine the correlations between these variables. A total of 80 patients with persistent complex bereavement disorders were included and divided into two groups: alexithymia (n = 45) and nonalexithymia (n = 35). Each patient was evaluated using the Toronto Alexithymia Scale, the Inventory of Complicated Grief and the Beck Depression Inventory. Individuals with alexithymia who have symptoms of complicated grief may experience more severe depression and grief than patients without alexithymia. Among individuals with alexithymia, the difficulty identifying feelings dimension may be a predictor of complicated grief, and the externally oriented thinking dimension appears to be significant in terms of masking depressive symptoms.

The Self-Evaluation of Negative Symptoms Scale (SNS) is a self-report scale that evaluates a patient's subjective experience on all five domains of the negative symptoms. This study aimed to present the adaptation and validation study of the Turkish version of SNS(SNS-TR).Seventy-five patients and 50 controls were recruited for this study. After the approval of the translation, participants were asked to fill out SNS-TR by themselves. They were interviewed with the Brief Negative Symptoms Scale (BNSS), Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS), and Calgary Depression Scale for Schizophrenia (CDSS).SNS-TR showed good internal consistency in the reliability analysis with Cronbach's alpha= 0.873. Subscale-total score correlation coefficients were significant (To conclude, our study indicates that SNS-TR is an easily applicable self-evaluation tool with good psychometric properties for assessing negative symptoms. KEY POINTSSNS is a novel and easily applicable self-report scale for examining negative symptoms in schizophrenia patients, allowing them to evaluate their subjective experience on all five domains of the negative symptoms.It shows good internal consistency (α= 0.873) which is similar to the original version (α = 0.867).Confirmatory factor analysis scores were found in acceptable ranges and SNS-TR confirm the five-factor structure.Using this scale in clinical practice would empower both the physician's examinations and patient participation through treatment and follow-up course.

Objectives In this present study, we aimed to perform the reliability and validity analyses of the Turkish Form of Short Form-12 version 2 (SF-12v2) in different groups of patients. Patients and methods After the permission for the validation study of the Turkish Form, Optum provided the authors the validly translated Turkish Form of SF-12v2. The study was carried out in rheumatological, psychiatric, and surgical wards of Manisa Celal Bayar University Hafsa Sultan Training and Research Center between September 2019 and June 2020. Taking possible dropouts into consideration, a total of 136 patients (67 males, 69 females; mean age: 43.5±14.4 years; range 19 to 82 years) constituted the study group. In addition to SF-12v2, for concurrent validity, Nottingham Health Profile (NHP) was used as the comparator instrument. Results In internal consistency, for the physical component summary score, the Cronbach alpha coefficient was 0.80, and item-total score correlation coefficients were between 0.32 and 0.73. The Cronbach alpha coefficient of the mental component summary score was found to be 0.88 where the item-total correlation coefficients varied between 0.60 and 0.78. Exploratory factor analysis revealed a two-factor solution, representing mental and physical components. For criterion validity, convergent and discriminant validity analyses were performed using NHP with SF-12v2, and domains of SF-12v2 correlated well with the domains of NHP accordingly. In criterion validity, the psychiatric group had the lowest mean score in mental health, vitality, social functioning and role difficulties due to emotional problems, whereas the surgical group had the lowest mean score in bodily pain, role difficulties due to physical problems, and physical functioning. Conclusion Our study results show that the Turkish form of SF-12v2 is valid and reliable both in clinical practice and clinical trials.

PURPOSE/BACKGROUND Emotional adverse effects due to antidepressant use may cause difficulties for the clinician in the treatment of depression. In this prospective study, the emotional adverse effects of antidepressants were evaluated in various aspects. METHODS/PROCEDURES Ninety eight patients diagnosed with major depressive disorder were included in the study. At 2nd, 4th, 8th, 12th, and 16th weeks, patients were assessed with Montgomery-Asberg Depression Rating Scale (MADRS), and the antidepressant dose was increased in patients with less than a 50% reduction at each visit compared with the initial MADRS score. The Oxford Questionnaire on the Emotional Side-effects of Antidepressants (OQESA) was used at the 8th-week and 16th-week visits. FINDINGS/RESULTS A significant difference is found in the OQESA score at the 8th-week visit compared with the 16th-week assessment (P < 0.001, t = 5.73). There were significant correlations between MADRS scores and OQESA scores both at the 8th (r = 0.346, P = 0.05) and the 16th (r = 0.490, P < 0.001) weeks. In regression analyses, at eighth-week assessment, MADRS score (B = 1.487, P = 0.002) and selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor use (B = 14.014, P = 0.023) had a significantly predicted OQESA score. IMPLICATIONS/CONCLUSIONS In this study, it is found that, as the rate of remitted patients is increased, OQESA scores get decreased, and furthermore, the OQESA score of the remitted group is statistically low when compared with that of the nonremitted group at the 8th- and 16th-week visits. Oxford Questionnaire on the Emotional Side-effects of Antidepressants and MADRS scores are significantly correlated in all assessments. These results suggest that the score obtained from OQESA may be related not only to the emotional adverse effects of antidepressants but also to the residual symptoms of depression.

INTRODUCTION[|]The present study aimed to examine the psychometric properties of Parenting and Family Adjustment Scale (PAFAS) to measure parenting skills and family adjustment in Turkish Parents.[¤]METHODS[|]The sample of our study consisted of the parents of children between the ages of 2-12. The clinical sample is from 201 mothers or fathers who were in the first 1-month evaluation process at the Dokuz Eylul University Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Outpatient Clinic; the population sample consisted of 202 mothers or fathers living in Balçova. For test-retest measurement, the test was re-administered to 58 parents in the community sample two weeks later. Psychometric properties of the scale were compared to Parenting Styles and Dimensions Scale, Marriage Life Scale and General Health Questionnaire.[¤]RESULTS[|]Internal consistency of Parenting subscale were found ''quite reliable'' and Family Adjustment subscale were found ''highly reliable''. There was no significant difference in the test-retest application of the PAFAS Turkish Form subscale and factor structures. PAFAS Turkish Form has high power to differentiate community and clinical samples; has a five-factor structure validity. It was determined that it has concurrent criterion validity with Parenting Styles and Dimensions Scale, Marriage Life Scale and General Health Questionnaire.[¤]DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION[|]In this study, it has been found that the Turkish version of PAFAS is a good valid and reliable scale for screening multiple domains of family functioning.[¤]

Aims To perform the validation of the Comprehensive Assessment at Risk Mental State (CAARMS) in Turkish. Methods Sixty-five volunteers (15-24 years) were enrolled in this study. Concurrent validity was performed with Spearman's Correlation Test using Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale (BPRS). Median scores of the groups were compared using Mann-Whitney U Test. Interrater reliability was assessed by intragroup correlation coefficient method. Internal consistency was studied by the calculation of Cronbach Alfa Coefficient. Results The correlation of the severity scores of the CAARMS with unusual thought content, suspiciousness, hallucinations and conceptual disorganization items of the BPRS showed that the concurrent validity was good. ROC analysis revealed that CAARMS could discriminate between individuals with UHR and healthy volunteers well. We found a good correlation between the raters. Internal consistency was at very high level. Conclusion Analyses of concurrent validity, criterion validity, interrater reliability and internal consistency indicate that the Turkish version is valid and reliable.

INTRODUCTION[|]The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship of Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) and MDD specifiers with temperament and personality traits with a perspective focused on Nine Type Temperament Model (NTTM).[¤]METHODS[|]203 healthy participants who are matched with the 208 MDD participants group between 18-60 years old and in at least eight weeks remission period and treatment in progress, without an additional diagnosis were included in the study. Socio-demographic data form, Nine Types of Temperament Scale (NTTS) and Temperament Character Inventory (TCI) were applied to all participants, and in addition, Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HDRS) were applied to the subjects with MDD. MDD specifiers were evaluated using follow-up data files.[¤]RESULTS[|]According to results, both Nine Type Temperament (NTT) Model's types, which are NTT1, NTT2, NTT3, NTT4, NTT6 and NTT8, and Psychobiological Personality Model's dimensions which are consisted of the cooperation, persistence, harm avoidance and self-management were found to be associated with MDD. From the point of MDD determinants; anxiety-distressing characteristics are associated with NTM2, NTM3, NTM6, NTM9; melancholy characteristics is concerned with NTT1, NTT5 and NTT6; seasonal characteristics are related to NTT4; mixed features are relevant with NTT4 and NTT7; and atypical features are associated with NTT5, NTT7, NTT9. As a result, MDD determinants are found to be associated with temperament types which are coming from NTTM.[¤]DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION[|]It is seen that temperament, which constitutes the structural basis of personality, is an effective parameter both in the diagnosis and in the individual-specific recognition of symptomatology in MDD patients. In addition, it can be said that temperament can be a discriminating factor in defining MDD specifiers. The development of temperament-oriented diagnosis and treatment strategies in future studies may be beneficial for the practice.[¤]

Background: No scale exists to assess patients at-risk for bipolar disorder (BD) in Turkey. We aimed to assess the psychometric properties of the Turkish version of the Bipolar Prodrome Symptom Interview and Scale-Full Prospective (BPSS-FP).

Amaç: Araştırmanın amacı, ruh sağlığı ve hastalıkları hakkında öğrenci hemşireler tarafından çekilen kısa filmlerin öğrencilerin psikiyatri hastalarına yönelik tutumlarına etkisini değerlendirmektir.Gereç ve Yöntem: Ön test-son test deseninde yarı deneysel olan araştırmanın evrenini, dördüncü sınıfta öğrenim gören 196 hemşirelik öğrencisi oluşturmuştur. Örneklem seçim yöntemi kullanılmamış olup, verilerin toplandığı tarihlerde okulda olan ve araştırmaya katılmaya gönüllü olan 126 öğrenci ile araştırma gerçekleştirilmiştir. Bu sayı aynı zamanda araştırmanın örneklemidir. Veriler, Bilgi Formu ve Akıl Hastalarına Yönelik Tutum Ölçeği ile toplanmıştır. Veriler sayı, yüzde ve t-testi kullanılarak analiz edildi.Bulgular: Öğrenciler eğitim öğretim yılının ilk yarıyılında 11 film, ikinci yarıyılında dokuz film çekimi yapmışlardır. Filmlerin çoğu psikopatoloji ile ilgilidir. Çalışmada öğrencilerin Akıl Hastalarına Yönelik Tutum Ölçeği ön test toplam puan ortalaması 64.50 ± 13.77, son test toplam puan ortalaması ise 72.50±14.72 olarak belirlenmiştir. Öğrencilerin ön test ve son test ölçek puan ortalamaları arasındaki farkın anlamlı olduğu belirlenmiştirSonuç: Ruh sağlığı ve hastalıkları hakkındaki kısa film çekme uygulamasının, öğrenci hemşirelerin psikiyatrik hastalara yönelik tutumlarını olumlu yönde etkilediği bulunmuştur., Aim: The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of short films about mental health and diseases shot by nursing students on their attitudes towards psychiatric patients.Material and Method: The population of the semi-experimental research in pre-test and post-test design consisted of 196 nursing students. The sample selection method was not used, and the research was completed with a total of 126 nursing students who were at school on the date the data was collected and volunteered to participate in the research. This number is the sample of the research at the same time. Information Form and Attitudes Towards Mentally Ills Scale was used. The number, percentage distribution, and paired samples were evaluated by using a t-test.Results: There were eleven short films made in the first academic semester and nine short films made in the second academic semester. Most of the films were about mental disorders related to psychopathology. The pre-test mean score of the Attitudes Towards Mentally Ills Scale was 64.50±13.77, and the post-test score of the scale was 72.50±14.72. The difference between the pre-test and post-test scale scores of the students was found to be significant.Conclusion: This study concluded that short films about mental health disorders made by students have a positive effect on nursing students’ attitudes towards psychiatric patients.

The aim of this study is to demonstrate the validity and reliability of the Categorical and Dimensional Psychometric Properties of the Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-5 Personality Disorders (SCID-5-PD) after its translation to the Turkish.The study was carried out with 102 volunteers from two university hospitals. The SCID interview was conducted by two experienced psychiatrists who interchanged positions as interviewer and observer; and completed the research forms without discussing the patient. The diagnostic agreement between the interviewers and the Kappa coefficient were calculated. Divergent and convergent validity analyses were carried out for diagnostic validity and the scores obtained from the self-report form as well as the dimensional evaluation scores were used in the statistical analyses.The group mean age for volunteers was 39.6±11.6 years and 66.7% consisted of females. The Kappa values for personality categories were 0.79 for avoidant personality structure, 0.64 for dependent personality structure, 0.81 for obsessive-compulsive personality structure, 0.76 for paranoid personality structure, 0.49 for schizotypal personality structure, 0.90 for histrionic personality structure, 0.66 for narcissistic personality structure, 0.89 for borderline personality structure and 0.71 for antisocial personality structure. Dimensional evaluation showed significant correlation with the diagnostic agreement between the interviewers and also with the scores of the self-report forms completed by the participants.The results demosntrated that the Turkish version of the Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-5 Personality Disorders (SCID- 5-PD-CV-TR) is valid and reliable.

Objective: This study aims to demonstrate the reliability and validity of Turkish version of DSM-5 generalized anxiety disorder scale which was developed to measure the severity of generalized anxiety disorder. Method: In this study,50 in- or out-patients who met the criteria for any anxiety disorder according to DSM-5 were included. One hundred volunteers without any mental or physical disease were also recruited as the control group. Beside the study scale, State Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) was used for concurrent validity.Internal consistency coefficient and item-total correlation analysis were performed or reliability analysis. Exploratory factor analysis was used for validity and correlation analysis with Spearman Correlation Analysis was used for concurrent validity. Results: Mean age was 28.9±12.6 years in the study group and 57.3% of the sample (n=86) were female. Disease duration for anxiety disorder was 17.4±9.5 years in the patient group. Objective: Major depressive disorder is the leading cause of non-fatal burden, and disability in adulthood. Even though depression is well-treated in the acute term,psychosocial functioning does not get back to the premorbid level most of the time. In this present study, it is aimed to evaluate the outcome of the acute term treatment of major depressive disorder in terms of psychosocial functioning. Methods: The study is an open-label, observational, multi-center follow-up study for four months of patients with major depressive disorder according to DSM-5. Patients were evaluated with Montgomery Asberg Depression Rating Scale (MADRS), Sheehan Disability Scale (SDS) and Short Form-36 (SF-36) at the beginning, and at the 2., 4., 8., 12. and 16.weeks. Results: 100 patients were invited to the study and 56 patients completed the study.As a result of the treatment, the mean MADRS and SDS scores decreased significantly. All domains of SF-36 were improved significantly with the treatment. Unfortunately patients suffering from MDD could not reach the normative data,especially on the domains of social functioning, role emotional, pain, and general health perception. Treatment outcomes show that SNRI users presented higher scores on the domains of pain and physical functioning. However SSRI users showed better outcomes on the domains of mental health and vitality. Conclusion: Our research corroborated that even patients gain symptomatic remission in MDD treatment, psychosocial dysfunction persists. It is also concluded that different antidepressant options may act differently on treatment outcomes. © 2021 Elsevier B.V.

There is an accumulation in studies which strive to reveal zonulin's potential role in mental disorders. To date, one cross-sectional recent study examined zonulin in patients with bipolar disorders (BDs); however, its role still remains vague due to high fluctuation. Our aims are to determine plasma zonulin levels in exacerbation and treatment response periods, and to examine the associations between zonulin and symptom severity in BD. 30 patients with BD type I and 29 healthy controls participated in the current study. Socio-demographic form, Young Mania Rating Scale (YMRS), and Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAM-D) were administered. Enzyme-linked immune assay (ELISA) method was used to measure the plasma zonulin levels of the participants. The groups did not differ in plasma zonulin-level comparisons. Plasma zonulin did not alter between the exacerbation and treatment response periods of the patients. Besides, no associations were found between plasma zonulin-level and disease symptoms. Intestinal barrier integrity was not found to be altered among patients with BD type I. The lack of alterations in plasma zonulin level between different periods may be attributable to several factors. One possible factor might be the ELISA method which can detect other proteins (e.g., properdin) rather than zonulin. Therefore, it might fail to indicate direct observation of intestinal permeability. However, future study designs with more accurate estimation of zonulin in a larger sample may provide a different perspective on intestinal permeability's possible role in BD etiology. Introduction Even though an increase in the number of hospital admissions for manic and depressive periods at certain times of the year is reported in bipolar disorder (BD), mood symptoms do not show a seasonal variation. We aimed to find out the possible causes of increased hospital admissions of BD patients in certain periods of the year. Methods The study was carried out in four centers in Turkey. The patient group consisted of 41 persons with a diagnosis of BD in remission. The healthy control (HC) group consists of 37 persons. The selected evaluation times are fall equinox (September 23), spring equinox (March 21), summer solstice (June 21) and winter solstice (December 21). For mood symptoms, Hamilton Depression Rating Scale and Young Mania Rating Scale; for functioning Functioning Assessment Short Test; for neurocognition Stroop Test (ST) and Rey Auditory Verbal Learning Test (RAVLT), for biological rhythm Biological Rhythms Interview of Assessment in Neuropsychiatry, and Seasonal Pattern Assessment Questionnaire were used. Results In terms of mood symptoms no seasonal variation was found. Across all four periods of assessment of BD group, statistically significant variation was only observed in the instant recall, learning and recognition domains of RAVLT and word test and color test domains of ST; however, it was not sufficient to distinguish the BD group separating from the control group. Conclusions In terms of mood symptoms, psychosocial functionality, biological rhythm, neurocognition, no seasonal variation was demonstrated that could distinguish the BD group from the HC group.

Introduction: This study aimed to assess the validity and reliability of the Turkish version of Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5) Level 2 Anger Scale. Methods: The scale was prepared by translation and back translation of DSM-5 Level 2 Anger Scale. Study groups consisted of a clinical sample of cases diagnosed with depressive disorder and treated in a child and adolescent psychiatry unit and a community sample. The study was continued with 218 children and 160 parents. In the assessment process, child and parent forms of DSM-5 Level 2 Anger Scale and Children’s Depression Inventory and Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire-Parent Form were used. Results: In the reliability analyses, the Cronbach alpha internal consistency coefficient values were found very high regarding child and parent forms. Item-total score correlation coefficients were high and very high, respectively, for child and parent forms indicating a statistical significance. As for construct validity, one factor was maintained for each form and was found to be consistent with the original form of the scale. As for concurrent validity, the child form of the scale showed significant correlation with Children’s Depression Inventory, while the parent form showed significant correlation with Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire-Parent Form. Conclusion: It was found that the Turkish version of DSM-5 Level 2 Anger Scale could be utilized as a valid and reliable tool both in clinical practice and for research purposes. © 2017 by Turkish Association of Neuropsychiatry.

The aim of this study was to demonstrate the validity and reliability of the WFIRS-S-TR, Turkish version of the Weiss Functional Impairment Rating Scale-Self Report form.The study comprised two groups of participants of 15-18 years of age, one consisting of 35 children diagnosed with attention deficit and hyperativity disorder (ADHD) based on the DSM-IV criteria and the other, 510 healthy volunteers attending high school. Apart from the WFIRS-S-TR, the Health Questionnaire for Children and Adolescents (KIDSCREEN-10 Index) which is a general quality of life and functionality measurement instrument, was used to check the concurrent validity of the WFIRS-S-TR.The Cronbach's alpha coefficient for the total scale was 0.939. The test-retest reliability assessed by repeated measurements two weeks apart gave a high correlation between the results (r=0.804, p0.0001). Total mean score of the WFIRS-S-TR showed significant correlation with the KIDSCREEN-10 Index total mean score (r= -0.467, p0.0001). Confirmatory factor analysis was carried out for the construct validity of the WFIRS-S-TR. The RMSEA and the CFI values were found to be 0.065 and 0.68, respectively.The WFIRS-S-TR can be used as a valid and reliable tool both in clinical practice and for research purposes.

Objective: In this study, we aimed to adapt the Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-5-ClinicianVersion into Turkish and to demonstrate its reliability. Method: A total of 185 patients, both inpatient and outpatient, from two different university hospitals were included. Training sessions on the features and use of SCID-5/CV were held before the data collection. During the study, in order to test the diagnostic agreement and accuracy, two psychiatrists remained present at the evaluation of each participant; alternatively being interviewer and the observer. Cohen's kappa coefficient for inter-rater reliability was calculated for every diagnostic category. Results: The patient group had a mean age of 37.2 (±13.5) years and 55.7% were female. The education status was as follows: 2.7% were illiterate, 1.7% literate with no primary education, 33% had primary education, 23.8% had secondary education and 38.9% had higher education. The calculated kappa value showed excellent agreement for schizophrenia (κ=0.93), bipolar disorder (κ=0.96), major depressive disorder (κ=0.89), dysthymic disorder (κ=0.82), alcohol use disorder (κ=0.96), panic disorder (κ=0.84), agoraphobia (κ=0.85), social anxiety disorder (κ=0.95), generalized anxiety disorder (κ=0.89), obsessive compulsive disorder (κ=0.87), posttraumatic stress disorder (κ=0.89), adult attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder (κ=1.00), specific phobias (κ=0.82) and very good agreement with adjustment disorder (κ=0.78) and somatic symptom disorder (κ=0.65). Conclusion: Similar to the past SCID versions, kappa values were found to be quite high and all were statistically significant. The goal of this study was to assess the validity and reliability of the Turkish version of the DSM–5 (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition) Dissociative Symptoms Severity Scale–Child Form. The scale was prepared by translating and then back-translating the DSM–5 Dissociative Symptoms Severity Scale. The study groups included one group of 30 patients diagnosed with posttraumatic stress disorder who were treated in a child and adolescent psychiatry unit and another group of 83 healthy volunteers from middle and high schools in the community. For assessment, the Adolescent Dissociative Experiences Scale (ADES) was used in addition to the DSM–5 Dissociative Symptoms Severity Scale. Regarding the reliability of the DSM–5 Dissociative Symptoms Severity Scale, Cronbach’s alpha was.824 and item–total score correlation coefficients were between.464 and.648. The test–retest correlation coefficient was calculated to be r =.784. In terms of construct validity, one factor accounted for 45.2% of the variance. Furthermore, in terms of concurrent validity, the scale showed a high correlation with the ADES. In conclusion, the Turkish version of the DSM–5 Dissociative Symptoms Severity Scale–Child Form is a valid and reliable tool for both clinical practice and research. © 2017 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.

Objective: Negative symptoms in schizophrenia have been assessed by many instruments. However, a current consensus on these symptoms has been built and new tools, such as the Brief Negative Symptom Scale (BNSS), are generated. This study aimed to evaluate reliability and validity of the Turkish version of BNSS.Methods: The scale was translated to Turkish and backtranslated to English. After the approval of the translation, 75 schizophrenia patients were interviewed with BNSS, Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS), Calgary Depression Scale for Schizophrenia (CDSS) and Extrapyramidal Symptom Rating Scale (ESRS). Reliability and validity analyses were then calculated.Results: In the reliability analysis, the Cronbach's alpha coefficient was 0.96 and item-total score correlation coefficients were between 0.655-0.884. Relation of the Nine Types of Temperament Model with personality disorders Objective: Aim of this study is to determine the correspondence between personality categories and the types making up the Nine Types of Temperament Model (NTTM) –a new temperament model which evaluates personality disorders within the context of temperament traits and maladaptive personality featuresand conceptualization of NTTM types. Method: The sample group is composed of 117 participants with a personality disorder. SCID II and Nine Types of Temperament Scale (NTTS) were applied to the participants. Results: According to the findings, all NTTM types have shown significant correlation with at least one personality disorder. According to the regression analysis results, it was determined that the NTTM types were explained by personality disorders at a rate of 19-41%. Conclusions: In this study, it is found that knowing the temperament features that form the basis of an individual’s personality structure is helpful to diagnose and to determine the tendency to develop personality disorders that are pathological responses to personality characteristics. In addition, this study brings up questions such as whether the individual differences between patients with the same personality disorders can be evaluated on the basis of temperament and whether it is possible to determine therapy and treatment approaches according to an individual’s temperament type.

Introduction The aim of this study was to assess psychometric properties of the Turkish version of the Dementia Attitudes Scale which is developed to determine attitudes towards dementia. Methods 326 volunteered students between the age of 20-44 years, studying in Manisa Celal Bayar University Faculty of Medicine and Faculty of Health Sciences are included in this methodological study. Data of the study were collected with "Demographic Data Form", "Dementia Attitudes Scale" and "UCLA-Geriatrics Attitudes Scale". For the analysis of the data, the SPSS and Lisrel software were used. Results The Cronbach's alpha coefficient of the Dementia Attitudes Scale is 0.84 which is quite high. Confirmatory factor analysis has supported three factor-structure of the scale: "Supporting attitude", "Accepting attitude" and "Exclusionary attitude". Confirmatory factor analysis revealed goodness of fit coefficients as 0.076 for RMSEA, 2.86 for the chi-square/sd, and 0.93 for CFI. The analysis showed that the adapted scale fits the model very well. The scale can discriminate between demographic characteristics and attitudes to dementia. The scale significantly correlates with UCLA-Geriatric Attitudes Scale measuring attitude towards the elderly. Conclusion Dementia Attitude Scale is a valid and reliable scale that can be used in studies evaluating the attitude towards dementia.

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the reliability and validity of the Turkish version of Bipolar Prodrome Symptom Scale. Method: Thirty subjects with bipolar disorder and 122 healthy control subjects were enrolled in this study. All participants were 1st grade students of Celal Bayar University and were part of the study on the epidemiology of bipolar disorder. The Hypomania Checklist-32-Revised was used for concurrent validity. Statistical analysis, internal consistency coefficient, item-total score correlation coefficients, exploratory factor analysis, correlation with concurrent scale and ROC curve were calculated Results: The Bipolar Prodrome Symptom Scale was first translated into Turkish and than back-translated into English which led to the semantic harmony of the scale. Cronbach alpha coefficient was between 0.969 and 0.979, the item-total score correlations were between 0.767 and 0.929, and 0.725-0.890. The factor analysis for the severity subscale showed a one-factor solution representing 79% of the variance and the frequency subscale one-factor solution represented 72% of the solution. Correlation of Bipolar Prodrome Symptom Scale with Hypomania Checklist-32-Revised was r=0.513 and 0.530. The ROC analysis showed an area under the curve of 0.977 and 0.999. The scale discriminates well between the bipolar group and healthy control group. Conclusion: The Turkish version of the Bipolar Prodrome Symptom Scale developed for screening hypomania is reported to be reliable and valid. © 2018 Turkish Association of Nervous and Mental Health.

Method: The scale was prepared by translation and back translation of DSM-5 Level 2 Sleep Disorders Scale. Study groups consisted of a clinical sample that contained cases that had sleep related problems and treated in a child and adolescent psychiatry unit and also a community sample. In the assessment process, child and parent forms of DSM-5 Level 2 Sleep Disorders Scale and also Children’s Sleep Habits Questionnaire-Turkish version (CSHQ) and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) were used. As for reliability analyses, internal consistency coefficient and item-total score correlation analysis, test-retest reliability; and for validity analyses, explanatory factor analysis and for concurrent validity, correlation analyses with Children’s Sleep Habits Questionnaire-Turkish version (CSHQ) and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) were made. Results: In reliability analyses, Cronbach’s alpha internal consistency coefficient values were found to be very highly reliable regarding child and parent forms. Item-total score correlation coefficients were high for child form while medium and high for parent form; indicating a statistical significance. As for construct validity, two factors were maintained that would count for 74.1% of the variance in child form and 66.9% of the variance in parent form. It was seen that positive and negative statements weighed on two different factors. As for concurrent validity, child and parent form of the scale showed significant correlation with Children’s Sleep Habits Questionnaire-Turkish version (CSHQ) and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Conclusion: It was found that Turkish version of DSM-5 Level 2 Sleep Disorders Scale could be utilized as a valid and reliable tool both in clinical practice and for research purposes. © 2017 by Turkish Association of Neuropsychiatry.

Background/aim: This study aimed to assess the validity and reliability of the Turkish version of the DSM-5 Generalized Anxiety Disorder Severity Scale - Child Form. Materials and methods: The study sample consisted of 32 patients treated in a child psychiatry unit and diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder and 98 healthy volunteers who were attending middle or high school during the study period. For the assessment, the Screen for Child Anxiety and Related Emotional Disorders (SCARED) was also used along with the DSM-5 Generalized Anxiety Disorder Severity Scale - Child Form. Results: Regarding reliability analyses, the Cronbach alpha internal consistency coefficient was calculated as 0.932. The test–retest correlation coefficient was calculated as r = 0.707. As for construct validity, one factor that could explain 62.6% of the variance was obtained and this was consistent with the original construct of the scale. As for concurrent validity, the scale showed a high correlation with SCARED. Conclusion: It was concluded that Turkish version of the DSM-5 Generalized Anxiety Disorder Severity Scale - Child Form could be utilized as a valid and reliable tool both in clinical practice and for research purposes. © TÜBİTAK.

Aims: In this study, the probable relationships between the types and factors of the Five Factor Model of Personality (FFM), which is a contemporary personality model, and the Nine Types Temperament Model (NTTM), which is a new temperament model, were investigated. Separately, the power of some of the types of NTTM to predict the dimensions of FFM was evaluated, as well. Place and Duration of Study: Bezmialem Vakif University (BVU) Psychiatry Outpatient Clinic (Turkey) between June 2013 and January 2014. Methodology: The sampling of the research consists of 247 healthy volunteers. Materials of the research include the Five-Factor Personality Inventory (FFPI) and The Nine Type Temperament Scale (NTTS). Results: All types of NTTM showed a significant correlation along with at least one of the FFPI factors at the level of 0.40 and above. Furthermore, the types of NTTM were determined to have predicted the dimensions of the FFPI by 34% and above. Conclusion: Significant correlations were found between the types of NTTM and the FFM factors. The results are discussed in regards to how the differences in the conceptual approach can be understood and the area of use between NTTM and FFM.

Method: The study group consisted of 50 patients treated in a child psychiatry unit and diagnosed with any specific phobia and 100 healthy volunteers. For the assessment, the Screen for Childhood Anxiety and Related Emotional Disorders (SCARED) was used along with the Severity Measure for Specific Phobia - Child Form according to DSM-5. Results: For reliability, Cronbach's alpha internal consistency coefficient was calculated to be 0.961. Test-retest correlation coefficient was calculated r=0.750. As for construct validity, one factor that could explain 74.1% of the variance was obtained, which is consistent with the original structure of the scale. As for concurrent validity, the correlation coefficient with the SCARED in children is r=0.480. Conclusion: It was concluded that the Turkish version of the DSM-5 Severity Measure for Specific Phobia - Child Form can be utilized as a valid and reliable tool both in clinical practice and for research purposes. © 2018 Dusunen Adam. Method: Study group consisted of 36 patients, who have been treated in a child psychiatry unit and diagnosed with agoraphobia, and 100 healthy volunteers who have been secondary and highschool students. For the assessment, the Screen for Childhood Anxiety and Related Emotional Disorders (SCARED) was used along with the DSM-5 “Severity Measure for Agoraphobia—Child Age 11–17”. Results: Regarding reliability analyses, Cronbach’s alpha internal consistency coefficient was calculated as 0.929. Test-retest correlation coefficient was 0.566. For concurrent validity, the measure showed a high correlation with the SCARED. In ROC analysis, area under ROC curve was calculated as 0.934. Conclusion: It was concluded that Turkish version of the DSM-5 “Severity Measure for Agoraphobia—Child Age 11–17” could be used as a valid and reliable tool both in clinical practice and for research purposes.

Objective: This study aimed to assess the validity and reliability of the Turkish version of DSM-5 Depression Severity Scale-Child Form. Methods: The scale was prepared by carrying out the translation and back-translation of DSM-V Depression Severity Scale-Child Form. Study group consisted of 46 patients that have been treated in a child psychiatry unit and diagnosed with depressive disorder and 135 healthy volunteers that were attending middle or high school during the study period. For the assessment, Child Depression Inventory (CDI) was used along with DSM-5 Depression Severity Scale-Child Form. Results: Regarding reliability analyses, Cronbach’s alpha internal consistency coefficient was calculated as 0.911 while item-total score correlation coefficients were measured between 0.579 and 0.801. As for construct validity, a factor that could explain 59.2% of the variance was obtained and was consistent with the original structure of the scale. In the concurrent validity analysis, the scale showed a very high correlation with Child Depression Inventory with a correlation coefficient value measured as r=0.847. Conclusion: It was concluded that Turkish version of DSM-5 Depression Severity Scale-Child Form could be utilized as a valid and reliable tool both in clinical practice and for research purposes.

Introduction: This study aimed to assess the validity and reliability of the Turkish Version of DSM-5 Level 2 Anxiety Scale’s child and parent forms. Methods: The scale was constructed by carrying out the translation and back translation of DSM-5 Level 2 Anxiety Scale. The study group consisted of a community and clinical sample. The scale was applied to 148 parents and 189 adolescents that represented the clinical and community sample. During the assessment process, Screen for Childhood Anxiety Related Emotional Disorders and Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire-Parent Form were also used. Results: Reliability analyses indicated a high internal consistency regarding Level 2 Anxiety Scales, both for child and parent forms (0.915/0.933). Anhedonia is a core feature of many psychiatric disorders and its reliable evaluation is needed for the dimensional understanding of psychiatric disorders. Snaith-Hamilton Pleasure Scale (SHAPS) is one of the most widely used scale to assess anhedonia. Here, we aimed to search the validity and reliability of the Turkish version of SHAPS. Translation of the original scale was completed in a two-step procedure. 188 healthy controls, 56 patients with a depressive disorder (F32-F34, excluding F34.0 cyclothymic disorder, according to ICD-10), and 52 patients with anxiety, stress-related or somatoform disorder diagnoses (F40-49 diagnosis according to ICD-10) were recruited, and evaluated with the Turkish version of SHAPS, Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) and Symptom Checklist-90-R (SCL-90-R). For the Turkish version of SHAPS, Cronbach’s alpha coefficient was found 0.87. The item-total item correlation indices ranged from 0.39 to 0.64. Principal components analysis extracted two factors and explained 46.57 % of total variance. The most significant correlation of SHAPS was found with BDI scores. SHAPS weakly correlated with somatization, interpersonal sensitivity and depression sub-scales of SCL-90-R, but not with BAI or other sub-scales of SCL-90-R. Depressive group had significantly higher SHAPS scores compared to controls and anxious group. Anxious group and control group were not significantly different for SHAPS scores. The current study shows that the Turkish version of the SHAPS has good psychometric properties. SHAPS scores may correlate with depression, somatization, and interpersonal sensitivity scores, and it may help to differentiate depressive patients from anxious patients and controls.

The purpose of this study was to develop and validate the Sexual Adjustment and Body Image Scale (SABIS), a self-report measure of body image and sexual adjustment for use with Turkish patients with breast cancer. We administered the SABIS to one hundred sixty-nine women who had undergone initial surgical treatment for primary breast cancer. The psychometric properties of the SABIS were examined, and it was found to be a reliable and valid assessment of body image and sexuality in patients with breast cancer following surgery; however, it did not cover all dimensions representing patients’ sexuality and body image. Patients’ sexual problems need to be assessed more comprehensively, using more culturally sensitive items.

Objective: Even though bipolar patients achieve remission, they do not reach premorbid psychosocial functioning. Factors such as residual depressive symptoms and number of episodes may cause this effect. The impact of treatment modalities has not been adequately studied. The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of treatment modalities on psychosocial functioning in remitted bipolar patients.Methods: The study was carried out with 108 patients diagnosed as having bipolar disorder. All patients were in remission and the remission state was confirmed by rating scales. In the assessment of functioning, the Functioning Assessment Short Test (FAST) covering domains such as autonomy, occupational functioning, cognitive functioning, financial issues, interpersonal relations, and leisure time activities was applied. The term “schizophrenia” refers to a debilitating group of disorders that usually results in a severely impaired quality of life (QoL). Symptomatology appears to have a substantial role in determining QoL, although the relationship between QoL and specific psychotic symptoms is still unclear and has demonstrated mixed results. Due to the intrinsic importance of social functioning in QoL, and the mediating effect of social cognition on social functioning, the aim of this study was to try to investigate QoL in schizophrenia, not only in terms of symptomatology, but also in consideration of potential neurocognitive and social cognitive contributing factors. Methods Twenty-eight clinically stable patients with schizophrenia performed a broad range of neurocognitive and social cognitive assessments, and also participated in a semi-structured interview of QoL, assessing four partially independent subdomains of QoL. A stepwise regression model was used to determine the best predictors of QoL, and additionally a mediator analysis was performed to test for the mediating power of social cognition on QoL. Results Negative symptoms, intelligence, executive functioning and social cognition all had some power in predicting QoL in schizophrenia. Though most interestingly, mental state reasoning was specifically found to be most strongly related with the Intrapsychic Foundation subdomain of QoL, whereas neurocognition and symptom severity were associated with other subdomains of QoL. Conclusions The association between mental state reasoning and the more “internal” aspects of QoL in schizophrenia may reflect a specific role for social cognition in introspective and subjective judgments of one's own QoL, whereas neurocognition and negative symptomatology may be more predictive of the external or extrinsic aspects of QoL. In conclusion, social cognitive skills appear to play a crucial role in the experience of one's own subjective well-being, which could help to explain previous inconsistencies in the literature investigating QoL in schizophrenia.

The objective of this study was to develop a new easy to use benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH)-specific QoL scale that may guide the treatment policy in BPH. A total of 118 items addressing BPH-specific QoL were produced. After an elimination process, a 20-question scale was developed. This new scale, Short Form (SF)-36 and International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS), was then administered to 50 healthy men (control group), and 108 BPH patients who received medical or surgical treatment. Reliability assessment consisted of internal consistency evaluation by the Cronbach's alpha reliability test. In construct validity, factor analysis was performed using principal component analysis with Varimax rotation. Response to change of this new form was also evaluated. Cronbach's alpha coefficient of this scale was found to be 0.8464. Item-total correlation coefficients were between 0.3298 and 0.7886 (p < 0.0001). Factor analysis for construct validity revealed four factors. The correlation coefficients were found to be r = 0.801 (p < 0.0001) with the total IPSS, and this new QoL scale had a relatively sufficient correlation with all domains of the SF-36. Moreover, a QoL score obtained by the summation of individual grades of each item may provide valuable information just like total IPSS. The mean QoL score was 4.96 +/- A 9.58 and 20.28 +/- A 9.14 in controls and BPH patients, respectively (p < 0.0001). Moreover, QoL score significantly improved by both medical and surgical treatment. The new BPH-specific QoL was shown to be reliable and valid.
