Objective: It was aimed to examine the relationship between sleep quality and anger levels of individuals with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted with 195 individuals with COPD hospitalized in the chest diseases ward of Van Training and Research Hospital between January and August 2023. Data were collected using the Epworth sleepiness scale (ESS), Richard-Campbell sleep scale (RCSS), and state-trait anger expression ınventory (STAI). Results: The mean age of the individuals who participated in this study was 67.81 (10.59) years and were diagnosed with COPD 9.85 (9.27) years ago. There was a weakly significant positive correlation (r=0.278; p<0.001) between the mean total score of the ESS and the mean total score of the RCSS, whereas there was no significant correlation between the mean total scores of the ESS and RCSS and the mean scores of the sub-dimensions of the STAI scale (p>0.05). A significant negative correlation was found between the year of diagnosis of COPD, the number of COPD attacks in the last year, and the mean total score of RCSS (p<0.001). It was found that those in global iniative for chronic obstructive lung disease stage I had higher sleep quality, lower daytime sleepiness, and internalized anger than those in stages III-IV. Individuals who never received oxygen therapy had lower levels of internalized anger than those who received occasional or continuous oxygen therapy (p<0.05). Conclusion: It was found that individuals diagnosed with COPD had poor sleep quality, and moderate anger levels and mostly expressed their anger inwardly. There was no relationship between sleep quality and anger levels of individuals diagnosed with COPD. It may be recommended that individuals with high disease severity should be followed up and treated regularly by mental health professionals in a holistic approach. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: To analyze the relationship between self-efficacy in protecting against substance use and loneliness in adolescents. Method: This descriptive, cross-sectional study comprised 400 adolescents. A Sociodemographic Data Form, Self-Efficacy for Adolescents Protecting Against Substance Abuse Scale (SEAPSAS), and Short-Form UCLA Loneliness Scale (ULS-8) were used for data collection. Regression analysis and Pearson correlation analysis, as well as descriptive statistics, were used in data analysis. Results: Mean ULS-8 total score was 17.94 (SD = 5.07) and mean SEAPSAS total score was 68.78 (SD = 17.59). A weak significant negative relationship was found between mean ULS-8 total score and mean SEAPSAS subdimensions and total score. As a result of regression analysis, it was determined that ULS-8 total score negatively affected mean SEAPSAS total score by 24.9% (R
2 = 0.249; B = −1.713; p < 0.001). Conclusion: Loneliness in adolescents, which was observed to negatively impact self-efficacy in protecting against substance use, should be addressed by psychiatric nurses through prevention activities and support programs and services, such as early detection and intervention. The aim of this systematic review was to evaluate the effects of mindfulness interventions on women's mental health in the perinatal and postpartum period. In the study, randomized controlled studies published in the last five years, from January 2018 to September 2023, were searched in CINAHL, PubMed, Cochrane Library, Science Direct, and Springer Link databases. The keywords "Pregnancy", "Pregnant", "Prenatal", "Perinatal", "Postpartum", "Mindfulness", "Meditation", "Self-compassion" and "Randomized controlled trial" were used while searching the databases. The assessed articles were subjected to quality assessment using the PRISMA checklist and the Joanna Briggs Institute's Critical Appraisal Checklist for Randomized Controlled Trials. As a result of the search, 26 studies were found. The studies revealed that the most commonly applied mindfulness intervention among intervention groups was self-help programs in an online setting. Mindfulness-based practices significantly impacted women's mental health, reducing fear of childbirth, depression, anxiety, and stress levels, while enhancing psychological well-being, self-efficacy, self-compassion, and mindfulness. Furthermore, these practices also benefited women's physical health, contributing to higher rates of normal vaginal births and increased maternal-fetal attachment. They were found to lessen birth pain, reduce the need for medication or anesthesia, and support the adoption of healthy lifestyle behaviors. These findings suggest that mindfulness interventions, which positively influence the mental health of both mothers and infants, should be widely applied to women, and the results of this study should be disseminated. The current study aimed to investigate the renal functions of inpatients with mental disorders. Data for this retrospective and descriptive study were collected from January 2021 to April 2021 from the records of patients who were hospitalized in the psychiatry clinic of a training and research hospital between 2018 and 2020. The study sample comprised hospital records of 376 patients. A significant negative relationship was determined between patients' glomerular filtration rate (GFR) and glucose level, duration of mental disorder, number of hospitalizations, and duration of medication use (p < 0.05). According to the analysis of patients' renal functions, mean GFR was statistically significantly lower in women with physical chronic diseases and diagnosed with personality disorders. Psychiatric–mental health nurses should evaluate and monitor renal functions of individuals with mental disorders and take precautions before kidney diseases develop. AIM: This study aimed to examine the relationship between internalized stigma and happiness levels of individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia. METHOD: This cross-sectional study was conducted between March and June 2021 with 100 individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia conducted in a Community Mental Health Centre in the Eastern Black Sea region of Turkey. Data were collected using Internalized Stigma of Mental Illness and the Oxford Happiness Questionnaire. RESULTS: A negative statistically significant relationship was determined between the Internalized Stigma of Mental Illness and Oxford Happiness Questionnaire. In addition, there was a positive correlation between the stigma resistance subdimension of the Internalized Stigma of Mental Illness and Oxford Happiness Questionnaire. The internalized stigma levels of the participating patients accounted for 35.1% of their happiness levels. The stigma resistance subdimension of the Internalized Stigma of Mental Illness scale affected the patients' happiness levels. CONCLUSION: There was a negative significant relationship between the individuals' internalized stigma and happiness levels. More comprehensive interventions are needed to combat the stigma of mental disorders in Türkiye so that individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia can lead a happy life in society. Although it is not mandatory for systematic review and meta-analysis studies, protocol registration is essential in the prevention of biases. This study aims to investigate the protocol registration status and reporting of systematic reviews and meta-analyses published in psychiatric nursing journals. This descriptive study's data were obtained by scanning the 10 mental health and psychiatric nursing journals in which the studies of psychiatric nurses were most frequently published and by examining the systematic reviews and meta-analyses published between 2012–2022. A total of 177 completed studies have been reviewed. It was determined that 18.6% of the examined systematic reviews and meta-analyses had a protocol registration. Almost all (96.9%) of the registered studies were registered with PROSPERO, and 72.7% were registered prospectively. It was determined that the registration status of the studies changed statistically according to the country where the studies' authors were located. When the published studies were examined, it was determined that approximately one out of every five studies were registered. With the prospective registration of systematic reviews, biases could be prevented, and evidence-based interventions can be made based on the knowledge obtained. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Due to the increasing mental problems today, protecting and strengthening the mental health of the society has become an even more important issue. The lack of knowledge and stigmatizing attitudes of the societies about mental disorders lead to the inability to treat mental disorders effectively in the early period. In this context, increasing the mental health literacy of the society within the scope of preventive mental health services will be an important step. Mental health literacy is a very new concept for our country, it is not fully known and it is seen that studies on this subject are limited. Therefore, in this review, the concept of mental health literacy, its importance, interventions to improve it and what psychiatric nurses can do about it will be discussed. This review will provide important and up-to-date data to the literature and will raise awareness of mental health professionals about the need for mental health literacy intervention studies., Günümüzde artan ruhsal sorunlar nedeniyle, toplumun ruh sağlığını korumak ve güçlendirmek daha da önemli bir konu haline gelmiştir.

COVID-19 not only creates vital physiological effects on human health, but also creates serious mental effects. Increasing death numbers, emerging new variants and uncertainties about the pandemic process cause people to fear. Increasing the individual protective factors during this period will prevent the emergence of fear even in a negative process such as a pandemic. Accordingly, one of the potential concepts that can help protect individuals from the negative effects of COVID-19 is thought to be self-compassion. The self-compassion that an individual will show to himself while going through these difficult times can be the salve for the fear of COVID-19 and the mental problems it causes during this period. In this direction; In this review, it is aimed to reveal the relationship between the fear of COVID-19 and the concepts of self-compassion. PubMed, PubMed Central (PMC), Google Scholar databases were searched and six studies were found that examined the fear of COVID-19 and the concept of self-compassion together. When studies are examined, it is reported that individuals with high self-compassion levels experience less fear of COVID-19 and reduce mental problems such as depression and anxiety disorder due to fear of COVID-19. The results of this review will raise awareness of mental health professionals that intervention studies focusing on self-compassion should be applied both to patients in clinical settings and to society in terms of preventive mental health., COVID-19, insan sağlığı üzerinde hayati fizyolojik etkiler oluşturmasının yanı sıra ciddi ruhsal etkiler de ortaya çıkarmaktadır.

This study aimed to evaluate the validity and reliability of the Turkish version of the Schizophrenia Hope Scale (SHS). This methodological study was carried out with 214 participants diagnosed with schizophrenia who were followed up in the psychiatry outpatient clinics of a university hospital between August 2021 and August 2022. Data were collected using an Information Form and the Schizophrenia Hope Scale (SHS). Language and content validity, exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses, item-total correlation, Cronbach alpha coefficient, and test-retest reliability methods were used in the validity and reliability analysis of the scale. As a result of the exploratory factor analysis, no item was excluded from the scale and it was determined that the scale has nine items and a single-factor structure. The single-factor structure of the scale was confirmed with the confirmatory factor analysis. The Cronbach Alpha coefficient of the scale was 0.901 and the factor loads ranged between 0.70 and 1.0. The test-retest correlation coefficient was r=0.959. The Turkish version of the scale was found to be valid and reliable. SCH is important since it represents the subjective meaning of hope from schizophrenic patients' perspective and allows an easier measurement of the level of hope in this population. Mental health professionals can use SHS to determine or increase the level of hope of schizophrenia patients in their studies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) is one of the effective treatment methods which was used in treatment of childhood and adolescent psychiatry. Although the effects and side effects of ECT intervention in child and adolescent psychiatry is similar adult psychiatry, mental health professionals might be reluctant to prefer ECT in children and adolescents due to limited knowledge and negative attitude to ECT. Because the articles on ECT among child and adolescent with severe mental disorders were limited studies of case reports, it could not reach any article which evaluated ECT holistically, it was thought to discuss ECT intervention, legal issue and nursing care in this issue and this review will contribute to the literature about ECT in children and adolescents., Çocukluk ve ergenlik döneminde görülen ciddi ruhsal bozuklukların tedavisinde kullanılan etkili yöntemlerden biri elektrokonvülsif tedavi (EKT)dir.

Tüketicilerin; %45'ini kamu çalışanları, %12'si özel sektör çalışanları, %11'i emekli, %10'unu ise serbest meslek çalışanları oluşturmaktadır. Tüketicilerin%62,3'ünü kadınlar, %40'ını ise erkekler oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmaya katılanların %75,4'lük payını evli tüketiciler %23,4'lük kısmı ise bekar tüketiciler oluşturmaktadır. Tüketicilerin %26'sının gelir düzeyi 2.001-3500 TL arasındadır. Tüketicilerinin %33,5'i ortalama aylık gıda tutarı 250-500 TL arasındadır. Yıldan yıla artan bilinçle birlikte doğal gıda arayışına giren tüketicilerin %38'i her gün tereyağ tüketmekte olduklarını belirtmiştir. In recent years, with increasing awareness of food safety, changes in consumption of herbal essences oils are also observed. Especially, consumers depending on their income level, they started to prefer oils that they believe to be healthy and reliable. In order to meet te demand arising with the rapidly increasing population and changing behaviour patterns there has been an increase both in the world and in our country in the cultivation areas of vegetable oil plants. The highest production and consumption in Turkey; sunflower, olive, such as rapeseed and vegetable oil occurs in plants and products. This review will provide important and up-to-date data to the literature and will raise awareness of mental health professionals about the need for mental health literacy intervention studies. Because the articles on ECT among child and adolescent with severe mental disorders were limited studies of case reports, it could not reach any article which evaluated ECT holistically, it was thought to discuss ECT intervention, legal issue and nursing care in this issue and this review will contribute to the literature about ECT in children and adolescents. Media has always revealed itself as an important component of power. Media has a strong relationship to power because of its functions of enabling society's access to information and of steering the society. Currently, governments and politicians who are aware of this fact, has been vigorously using media as a tool for public diplomacy. Media that has been reshaped, has now turned more into the decision making mechanism for the ways in which certain narratives are conveyed to the society and in what caliber; than a mere narrator of events taking place in certain places. As a result of this, many broadcasting channels in universal languages plus their own native tongue and funded mainly through the financial resources of the public sources of the government that they are connected to. In this context, Qatar based Al Jazeera, and Russia based Sputnik are the broadcasters preferred and analyzed in this study. In this study, the international hegemonic struggle taking place between various governments in the context of the crisis in Syria, has been interpreted through the media organs Al Jazeera and Sputnik. The news broadcasts of these two agencies concerning Halep and Palmira, has been treated under various titles with the concern of understanding whether there are any parallels between their broadcasts and the policies of the governments that they belong to. With the struggle for narrative here, the freedom of media, and the relevance of a unidirectional flow of news today, have been opened to discussion. 139

HEADACHE , *LOCAL anesthetics , *NERVE block - Abstract
Objective: Nerve injections have been used for the acute and preventive treatment of migraine in recent decades. Most of these injections focused on greater occipital nerve (GON) blockade. However, few studies were placebo controlled, and only a few of them investigated GON and supraorbital nerve (SON) blockade together. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of GON and SON blockade with local anesthetics for the preventive treatment of migraine without aura. Methods: Eighty-seven patients diagnosed with migraine without aura were included in the study. Patients were divided randomly. One group was injected with 1% lidocaine, the other group was injected with 0.9% saline. GON and SON injections were done bilaterally. The injections were repeated weekly for 3 weeks. Patients were followed up for 2 months to assess clinical response. Results: Seventy-one patients completed the study. After 2 months, the number of headache days decreased significantly from 12.8 ± 10.9 to 5.3 ± 7.4, and VAS decreased from 8.3 ± 1.0 to 5.5 ± 1.9 in the blockade group. The number of headache days decreased from 12.4 ± 10.3 to 7.5 ± 7.2 and VAS decreased from 8.2 ± 1.1 to 7.4 ± 1.3 in the placebo group. Response was seen in 65.1% of the patients in the blockade group (65.4% for episodic migraine, 64.7% for chronic migraine) and 28.6% of the patients in the placebo group. The difference was significant. Conclusions: The results suggest that GON and SON blockade with lidocaine was more effective than the placebo in the prophylactic treatment of both episodic and chronic migraine. Wild tomato species have been widely used for improvement of tomato disease resistance but have not been extensively explored for health-related traits. In this work, three interspecific populations derived from backcrosses between cultivated tomato and Solanum pimpinellifolium (LA1589), S. habrochaites (LA1223), and S. peruvianum (LA2172) were analyzed for water-soluble antioxidant activity, phenolic content, vitamin C content, and basic agronomic traits including fruit weight, shape, and color. The wild species accessions significantly exceeded S. lycopersicum for all three antioxidant traits with only one exception: vitamin C content in S. habrochaites LA1223. Several populations and traits showed transgressive segregation indicating that the backcross populations contained individuals with allele combinations that allowed antioxidant activity/content to exceed that of both parents. The S. habrochaites LA1223 population provided the best starting material for improvement of water-soluble antioxidant activity and phenolics content with 20% and 15% of the population, respectively, significantly exceeding the parental values for these traits. Moreover, the S. habrochaites population contained individuals that had nearly 2-fold more water-soluble antioxidant activity and phenolic content than cultivated tomato. The S. peruvianum LA2172 population was best for improvement of vitamin C content with 3-fold variation for the trait and individuals, which had twice as much vitamin C as cultivated tomato., Izmir Institute of Technology (BAP) (2002-IYTE-29/2004-IYTE-38)
