Abstract

Λ CDM tensions are by definition model-dependent; one sees anomalies through the prism of Λ CDM. Thus, progress towards tension resolution necessitates checking the consistency of the Λ CDM model to localise missing physics either in redshift or scale. Since the universe is dynamical and redshift is a proxy for time, it is imperative to first perform consistency checks involving redshift, then consistency checks involving scale as the next steps to settle the "systematics versus new physics" debate and foster informed model building. We present a review of the hierarchy of assumptions underlying the Λ CDM cosmological model and comment on whether relaxing them can address the tensions. We focus on the lowest lying fruit of identifying missing physics through the identification of redshift-dependent Λ CDM model fitting parameters. We highlight the recent progress made on S 8 : = σ 8 Ω m / 0.3 tension and elucidate how similar progress can be made on H 0 tension. Our discussions indicate that H 0 tension, equivalently a redshift-dependent H 0 , and a redshift-dependent S 8 imply a problem with the background Λ CDM cosmology. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

12. Elucidating cosmological model dependence with $$H_0$$ <math> <msub> <mi>H</mi> <mn>0</mn> </msub> </math>

Abstract

We observe that the errors on the Hubble constant $$H_0$$ H 0 , a universal parameter in any FLRW cosmology, can be larger in specific cosmological models than Gaussian processes (GP) data reconstruction. We comment on the prior mean function and trace the smaller GP errors to stronger correlations, which we show precludes all well studied dynamical dark energy models. We also briefly illustrate cosmographic expansions as another model independent cosmological reconstruction. Our analysis suggests that “cosmological model independence”, especially in the statement of Hubble tension, has become a misnomer.

Abstract

The standard $\Lambda$ Cold Dark Matter cosmological model provides a wonderful fit to current cosmological data, but a few tensions and anomalies became statistically significant with the latest data analyses. While these anomalies could be due to the presence of systematic errors in the experiments, they could also indicate the need for new physics beyond the standard model. In this Letter of Interest we focus on the tension of the Planck data with weak lensing measurements and redshift surveys, about the value of the matter energy density $\Omega_m$, and the amplitude or rate of the growth of structure ($\sigma_8,f\sigma_8$). We list a few interesting models for solving this tension, and we discuss the importance of trying to fit with a single model a full array of data and not just one parameter at a time., Comment: Snowmass2021 - Letter of Interest

Abstract

Realising de Sitter vacua in string theory is challenging. For this reason it has been conjectured that de Sitter vacua inhabit the Swampland of inconsistent low-energy effective theories coupled to gravity. Since de Sitter is an attractor for ΛCDM, the conjecture calls ΛCDM into question. Reality appears sympathetic to this idea as local measurements of the Hubble constant H0 are also at odds with ΛCDM analysis of Planck data. This tension suggests that the de Sitter state is unstable, thereby implying a turning point in the Hubble parameter. We present a model relieving this tension, which predicts a turning at small positive redshift z⁎ that is dictated by present-day matter density ωm. This feature is easily identified by homogeneous surveys covering redshifts z≤0.1. We comment on the implications for the Swampland program.

22. Testing the Swampland: Tension

Abstract

The de Sitter Swampland conjecture compels us to consider dark energy models where λ(ϕ)≡|∇ϕV|/V is bounded below by a positive constant. Moreover, it has been argued for Quintessence models that the constant λ scenario is the least constrained. Here we demonstrate that increasing λ only exacerbates existing tension in the Hubble constant H0. The identification of dark energy models that both evade observational bounds and alleviate H0 tension constitutes a robust test for the Swampland program.

Abstract

Holographic calculations of entanglement entropy boil down to identifying minimal surfaces in curved spacetimes. This generically entails solving second-order equations. For higher-dimensional AdS geometries, we demonstrate that supersymmetry and calibrations reduce the problem to first-order equations. Abstract

Abstract: The most general class of warped supersymmetric solutions in supergravity permits a consistent truncation to minimal gauged supergravity. Here we extend this truncation, for a particular subclass of manifolds, to gauged supergravity coupled to two vector multiplets. We obtain the reduction ansatz by T-duality of a recently discussed type IIB truncation on a generic Sasaki–Einstein five-fold, which becomes non-trivial in and displays non-standard features due to the G-structure of the internal . Using this truncation, we construct two new classes of warped and unwarped non-supersymmetric M-theory backgrounds. We also comment on possible extensions of the reduction ansatz to the general class of geometries. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract

E. Abdalla, G. F. Abellán, A. Aboubrahim et al., The standard Λ Cold Dark Matter (ΛCDM) cosmological model provides a good description of a wide range of astrophysical and cosmological data. However, there are a few big open questions that make the standard model look like an approximation to a more realistic scenario yet to be found. In this paper, we list a few important goals that need to be addressed in the next decade, taking into account the current discordances between the different cosmological probes, such as the disagreement in the value of the Hubble constant H0, the σ8–S8 tension, and other less statistically significant anomalies. While these discordances can still be in part the result of systematic errors, their persistence after several years of accurate analysis strongly hints at cracks in the standard cosmological scenario and the necessity for new physics or generalisations beyond the standard model. In this paper, we focus on the 5.0σ tension between the Planck CMB estimate of the Hubble constant H0 and the SH0ES collaboration measurements. After showing the H0 evaluations made from different teams using different methods and geometric calibrations, we list a few interesting new physics models that could alleviate this tension and discuss how the next decade's experiments will be crucial. Moreover, we focus on the tension of the Planck CMB data with weak lensing measurements and redshift surveys, about the value of the matter energy density Ωm, and the amplitude or rate of the growth of structure (σ8, fσ8). We list a few interesting models proposed for alleviating this tension, and we discuss the importance of trying to fit a full array of data with a single model and not just one parameter at a time. Additionally, we present a wide range of other less discussed anomalies at a statistical significance level lower than the H0–S8 tensions which may also constitute hints towards new physics, and we discuss possible generic theoretical approaches that can collectively explain the non-standard nature of these signals. Abstract

Quasars (QSOs) are extremely luminous active galatic nuclei currently observed up to redshift $z=7.642$. As such, they have the potential to be the next rung of the cosmic distance ladder beyond SNe Ia, if they can reliably be used as cosmological probes. The main issue in adopting QSOs as standard candles (similarly to Gamma-Ray Bursts) is the large intrinsic scatter in the relations between their observed properties. This could be overcome by finding correlations among their observables that are intrinsic to the physics of QSOs and not artifacts of selection biases and/or redshift evolution. The reliability of these correlations should be verified through well-established statistical tests. The correlation between the ultraviolet (UV) and X-ray fluxes developed by Risaliti \& Lusso is one of the most promising relations. We apply a statistical method to correct this relation for redshift evolution and selection biases. \textbf{Remarkably, we recover the the same parameters of the slope and the normalization as Risaliti \& Lusso. Our results establish the reliability of this relation, which is intrinsic to the QSO properties and not merely an effect of selection biases or redshift evolution. Hence,} the possibility to standardize QSOs as cosmological candles, thereby extending the Hubble diagram up to $z=7.54$., 11 pages, 5 figures, 1 Table. The paper is now accepted in ApJ
