Two methods of calculating correction factors for the measured short-range gain of tapered horns, a method of transmitting power from one aperture to the other and a method based on the geometric diffraction theory, are compared. The accuracy of correction factors is estimated from experimental data as a function of the parameter n=Rλ/D2.

The possibility of using a fragment of a dielectric lens to generate a quasi-plane wave field with a reduced level of oscillations in the working region of a compact proving ground and the additional possibility of equalizing the field over the transverse cross section is considered. The results of a calculation of the corrections for the field nonuniformity when measuring the gain are presented.
