Alzheimer's disease (AD) affects many people around the world, and its incidence is increasing. In addition to the amyloid cascade hypothesis, different mechanisms are discussed for AD, which has no definitive treatment. Studies have shown that the levels of metal cations such as iron, copper, zinc, and magnesium vary and their metabolism are impaired in patients with AD. Metal cation dyshomeostasis is believed to be one of the mechanisms that contribute to the development of AD. In this review, we aimed to evaluate various metal cations in terms of AD. This document is a summary of a study conducted at Showa University Fujigaoka Hospital in Yokohama, Japan, which explores the role of zinc in liver regeneration after partial liver resection. The study found that higher serum zinc levels at the time of diagnosis were associated with greater hypertrophy in the future residual liver. However, there was no significant difference in short-term outcomes between patients with high and low zinc levels. Zinc is an essential element that is essential for our body and has both antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. It plays a major role in the physiological functions of body systems, and naturally takes place in the physiological processes that make up hearing. Especially as the role of zinc in inner ear physiology and auditory neural connections is investigated, researches related to the use of zinc in addition to the treatment of hearing loss caused by pathologies in the inner ear and/or neural pathways have increased recently. In this study, studies on the usability of zinc to support the treatment of hearing loss and tinnitus were summarized and compiled. It was concluded that most of the studies evaluating the effectiveness of zinc in sudden sensorineural hearing loss and otitis media did not show any benefit. On the other hand, in studies investigating the relationship between presbycusis and zinc, the opinion that low serum zinc values may lead to presbycusis is dominant. In most of the studies evaluating the effectiveness of zinc on tinnitus, no significant improvement was found. More studies with a high level of evidence are needed in this area. 6. Effects of different concentration of Zn(II) on the organic material degradation and nitrification process in the treatment of real industrial wastewater.

In this study, three real industrial wastewaters containing different concentration of Zn (II) were treated with lab-scale sequential batch bioreactor (SBR) to determine the effects of Zn (II) on the organic material degradation and nitrification process. The effects of Zn (II) on nitrification performance were determined by monitoring the bioactivities of ammonium oxidizing bacteria (AOB) and nitrite oxidizing bacteria (NOB), and effluent Zn (II) concentrations. It was observed that the organic matter removals of SBRs fed with wastewater containing different zinc concentrations show high similarity. Ammonium removal efficiencies (ARE) of reactors operated with a concentration of 2.1, 1.2, and 0.6 mg Zn (II)/L were observed as 88.9±1,7%, 89.8±1.0 % and 81.4±7.3 %, respectively. However, a remarkable effect on nitrate conversion rate (NaCR) was determined. NaCR was 98.3±8.2%, 47.5±11.4%, 27.6±6.7% for a concentration of 2.1, 1.2, and 0.6 mg Zn (II)/L, respectively. Additionally, it was concluded that NOB bioactivity and nitrate conversion rates were improved with increasing Zn (II) concentration. The effluent Zn (II) concentrations were measured as 0.67 mg/L, 0.33 mg/L and 0.07 mg/L for a influent concentration of 2.1, 1.2, and 0.6 mg Zn (II)/L, respectively. 8. Retrospective Evaluation of Serum Zinc Levels in Patients with Protein-Energy Malnutrition.

Aim: In this study, we aimed to investigate the frequency of serum zinc deficiency in children with protein-energy malnutrition and to show the relationship between the degree of malnutrition and serum zinc level. Methods: Methods: This retrospective study was conducted at the Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition clinic in Selçuk University Hospital, and included 506 patients aged between 1 and 18 years who were diagnosed with protein-energy malnutrition according to the Waterlow classification. Results: The prevalence of serum zinc deficiency was 61.1% in patients with protein-energy malnutrition. The mean serum zinc levels of patients aged 1-5 were significantly lower than those of patients aged 5-12 and 12-18. There was no difference between malnutrition degrees calculated according to Waterlow criteria and mean serum zinc levels. Although the relationship between the degree of malnutrition calculated according to the BGA scale and the mean serum zinc level was not statistically significant, the mean decrease in serum zinc levels was remarkable in contrast to the increase in the level of malnutrition. Conclusion: It is important to routinely measure serum zinc levels in patients with PEM and to provide zinc supplementation if deficiency is detected. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Today, the production of aluminum alloys has gained great importance in the defense, aviation and space industry, automobile industry and various industrial areas. Fusion welding methods used in joining aluminum materials during production are problematic and difficult. In addition, conventional joining methods are not as successful as solid state welding methods in dissimilar joining these alloys with other metals. Solid state welding methods are an important issue in the joining techniques of aluminum alloys due to their low density, good toughness, easy formability, high mechanical properties and light weight, machinability, high corrosion resistance and high strength. In addition to Friction Stir Welding and Friction Stir Spot Welding, which have been at the forefront in recent years, Friction Stir Extrusion Brazing (FSEB) has become one of the current welding methods. In this study, FSEB method was performed using AA2024-T3/ Zn/AA5754-H22 aluminum alloy sheets and zinc metals as interlayer by keeping the tool feed rate constant and changing the waiting time. In order to determine the effect of tool feed speed, rotating speed of the mixer tip and tool waiting time on mechanical behavior in the joints made with the FSEB method; tensile test, microhardness test and microstructure analyzes were performed. As a result of the experimental studies, an increase in the mechanical properties was obtained with the increase of the tool waiting time. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

11. Determination of Zinc Sorption Properties of Gyttja, Leonardite and Compost

Leonardite and compost are used as soil conditioner materials. Gyttja is a material which contains 30-40% lime and 40-50% organic matter with a reserve of approximately 4.8 billion tons in Afşin-Elbistan Thermal Power Plant basin. These materials are used in the production of organomineral (OMG) fertilizers. Zinc (Zn) is one of the micronutrients that plants need. Available Zn deficiency is observed in approximately 49% of Turkish soils. The aim of this study was to determine the Zn adsorption properties of gyttja, leonardite and compost used in OMG fertilizer production. The study was conducted under laboratory conditions. In order to determine the optimum adsorption conditions, the effect of pH, particle size, temperature, shaking time and solution concentration were determined. Then, adsorption properties were determined using linear Langmuir isotherm under optimum conditions. According to Langmuir isotherm, the maximum sorption capacity (qmax) was found to be 14.10 mgg-1 for gyttja, 13.74 mgg-1 for leonardite and 15.67 mgg-1 for compost. In conclusion, Zn sorption values of gyttja, leonardite and compost were consistent with Langmuir and Freunlich isotherms. The maximum sorption capacity (qmax) of these materials is very close to each other. When these data are taken into consideration, it is seen that 1 kg of organic material can sorbed about 15 g Zn. It is useful to take these basic data into account in OMG fertilizer production and sustainable Zn fertilization.

- Abstract
Within the scope of this study, a waste sludge obtained from a Lead-ZincCopper Flotation Enrichment Facility in Turkey. Mining waste contains high concentrations of Zn and Pb elements, therefore it is aimed to recover these elements with an environmentally friendly method. For this purpose, the recovery of Pb and Zn heavy metals was investigated by chemical and biological methods after leaching with 2 M HNO3. As a result of the leaching studies, it has been determined that Pb and Zn heavy metals can be taken into solution effectively with 2 M HNO3 at 40°C, at the end of the 4 hours test period. Under the specified leaching conditions, approximately 73% Pb and 37% Zn could be leached into solution. For biological recovery experiments, the effects at 3 different levels of 4 different variables (MC concentration, pH, reaction time and temperature), which were created according to 24 factorial designs were investigated. The results showed that it was possible to recover 79-100% of all elements at high pH values. For chemical recovery studies, the effect of different pH values on removal with 8M NaOH was investigated and recovery of 95% Pb and 94% Zn was obtained after precipitation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this study, the recovery of Zn2+ from the actual leach solution obtained after leaching smithsonite ore in sulfuric acid solutions was investigated by applying the solvent extraction method. The organic phase was prepared using D2EHPA and kerosene. The effects of the initial pH of the solution, extractant concentration, stirring time, and stirring speed on the extraction process were investigated. It was determined that the extraction efficiency increased with the increase in the extractant concentration, the initial pH of the aqueous solution, the stirring speed, and the stirring time. In order to selectively increase the transfer of Zn2+ from the aqueous phase to the organic phase, the optimal values for the initial pH of the aqueous phase, extractant concentration, stirring time, and stirring speed were determined as 3.5, 0.1 mol/L, 10 min, and 500 rpm, respectively. Plants need all plant nutrition elements to be available and adequate level in soil for optimum growth and yield production. The uptake of macro and micro nutrients by plants is limited or they can not be beneficial for plants in calcareous soils with high pH such as being in Mediterranean Region. In such situations, management strategies such as foliar spray can be useful to benefit of plants from them particularly under soil-limed condition with restricted micronutrients uptake. In this study, it was aimed to evaluate the effects of foliar-applied zinc and iron on chlorophyll content, leaf area index (LAI) and chemical composition of soybean (Glycine max L.) at different growth stages. Field experiments were conducted over during the second crop seasons of the years 2018 and 2019 under the conditions of Hatay Province. The experiment was designed as split-split plot design with three replications. Varieties (Arısoy, Bravo, Nazlıcan) were placed in main plots, growth stages (V3, R1, R3) in subplots and foliar fertilizers (control, zinc, iron, zinc + iron) in sub-sub-plots. Foliar application of iron and zinc increased chlorophyll content and LAI values at different stages of growth in contrast to control (untreated) groups. The highest SPAD value (36.03) was obtained from Nazlıcan × R3 × Zn + Fe treatment and the highest LAI (7.57) was obtained from Bravo × V3 × Fe treatment. Generally, the higher results of SPAD value were observed in reproductive stages while the higher results of LAI were observed in vegetative stages. Leaf zinc and iron accumulations were higher in reproductive stages. As a result of this study, it was observed that micro nutrients needed by soybean plant can be supplied with foliar applications in calcareous soils. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: Two major host factors in the pathogenesis of urinary tract infection are a defect in innate immune responses and a decrease in urothelial barrier function (UTI). Even in the cases of moderate zinc deficiency, innate and adaptive immune system functions are impaired. The aim of this study was to assess the association between serum zinc concentration, urinary zinc/creatinine ratio, and recurrent UTIs in children. Methods: In this study, children with recurrent UTIs and healthy children were enrolled. The patient group was divided into subgroups based on the nature of recurrent UTIs. Group 1 consisted of patients who had had =2 acute upper UTIs or 1 episode of upper UTI plus =1 episode of lower UTI. Group 2 consisted of the patients who had had =3 acute lower UTIs but no acute upper UTIs. The demographic characteristics, serum zinc levels, and urine zinc/creatinine ratios of the patients with recurrent UTIs were compared to those of the control group. Results: Thirty-three patients with recurrent UTIs and 33 healthy children were enrolled in the study. The mean serum zinc level and mean urine zinc/creatinine ratio of patients with recurrent UTIs were 6.6±1.66 umol/l and 16.44±13.04 umol/g, respectively. There was no statistically significant difference between patients and controls and between patients in Group 1 and patients in Group 2 in terms of serum zinc concentration and urine zinc/creatinine ratio, respectively. Conclusion: Further studies are needed to identify the impact of zinc deficiency on the recurrence of UTI in children. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Şiddetli Akut Solunum Sendromu Koronavirüs 2 enfeksiyonu (SARS-CoV-2 / COVID-19) Aralık 2019’da Çin’in Wuhan şehrinde ortaya çıkmıştır. Pandemi halini alarak birçok ölüme neden olmuştur. Enfekte insandan, insana damlacık yolu ile ağız, burun ve göz mukozasında bulaşabilmektedir. Öksürük, ateş, halsizlik gibi kişiye göre değişen birçok belirti bulunmaktadır. Selenyum, çinko, bakır ve magnezyumun özellikle antioksidan ve antiviral etkilerinin COVID-19sürecinde mücadelede etkili olabileceği bildirilmiştir. Bu minerallerin serum düzeylerinin düşük olması hastalığa yakalanma ve hastalık belirtilerinin şiddetlenmesi ile ilişkili olduğu belirtilmiştir. COVID-19tedavi sürecinde hastaneye yatan hastaların serum minerallerinin incelenmesi ve varsa eksikliklerin giderilmesi önerilmektedir. Bu derlemede selenyum, çinko, bakır ve magnezyumun COVID-19ile ilgili etkileri güncel bilgilerle incelenmiştir.

Aim: The present study aims to examine the effects of zinc deficiency on maternal and fetal outcomes during pregnancy. Materials and methods: The study was carried out in a secondary care hospital between 2020 January and 2020 December. Demographic data of all patients, zinc, hemoglobin (Hb), hematocrit (Hct) levels at birth and adverse pregnancy outcomes such as oligohydramnios, preterm delivery, preeclampsia, preterm premature rupture of membranes (PPROM), intrauterine growth retardation (IUGR) were recorded. Maternal serum zinc levels of <56 pig/dL were considered deficient, whereas maternal serum zinc levels of >56 pig/dL were considered normal. Maternal and neonatal outcomes of the zinc-deficient group and the zinc-deficient group were compared. Results: Zinc deficiency was found in 36(35.2%) of these patients. The group with sufficient zinc levels had a mean zinc level of 74 pig/dL (56-120), while the group with zinc deficiency had a mean zinc level of 50 gg/dL (36-55) (p:0.000). The rates of PPROM and preterm delivery were significantly higher in the zinc-deficient group (p=0.03,p=0.039, respectively). The zinc-deficient group had significantly lower 1st and 5th minute APGAR scores (p=0.002, p=0.001, respectively). Zinc deficiency significantly increased the risk of PPROM by 1.7 times and preterm birth by 0.479 times (OR=1.713,95% 01=0.662-0.824, p=0.043; OR=0.479, 95% 01=0.209-0.095, p=0.041, respectively). Conclusion: The results of this research indicate that pregnant women who were zinc deficient had a higher rate of preterm delivery and PPROM. In conclusion, zinc supplements given to pregnant women, particularly during the third trimester of pregnancy, will reduce the negative perinatal outcomes associated with zinc deficiency. 24. Improving antifungal properties of wood with copper, zinc and cerium containing chemicals

Wood being an organic material can be degraded and destroyed by wood-destroying organisms. For this purpose, many wood preservatives have been developed from the past to the present, and are still being developed. In this study, scots pine samples were impregnated with zinc chloride (ZnCl2), nano cerium oxide (CeO2), nano zinc oxide (ZnO) and copper II sulphate (CuSO4) at a concentration level of 0.25%, 0.5, 1, 1.5 and 2.5. Decay resistance against brown (Coniophora puteana) and white (Trametes versicolor) rot fungi attacks has been determined. The antifungal effectiveness of the preservatives was determined for both leached and unleached samples. Furthermore, toxicity in leachate was determined by measuring the mycelium growth of the same fungi species in the petri dishes. Decay test results showed that ZnCl2 was effective in inhibiting both fungi growth on wood samples. In addition, ZnCl2 was found to be the most leach resistant and effective chemical in preventing both decay fungi among the other chemicals. A minimum concentration level of 1.5% was needed for efficient decay resistance for both CeO2 and CuSO4. 1% concentration of ZnO was found to be effective in suppressing the tested fungi attacks in unleached samples, while, all concentration levels in leached samples were not found to be effective to prevent T. versicolor attack. Mycelium growth of the both fungi on leachates was similar to the growth level on references after 2 weeks.

Besides the most common uses of antimony metal and / or compounds, with the development of solar energy technologies, the need for antimony and its compounds increases and the rapid depletion of primary sources in the world increases the importance of antimony recovery from secondary sources. The recovery method proposed in this study aims to reduce the ionic antimony by oxidation of the more active metal and to produce metallic antimony in powder form as a result of reduction process. Oxide based antimony containing ore has been treated by acidic solutions. But as the recovery rate was too low, the parameters affecting the metallic precipitation of antimony from acidic synthetic antimony solutions which are a secondary source were examined in detail. The physical and chemical properties of antimony metal were determined after examining reaction time, temperature, initial antimony concentration, zinc powder amount and solution pH parameters during cementation process which could affect experimental working conditions. As a result of the experimental studies, using 25 mL of 1000 ppm Sb3+ synthetic solution with the addition of 100 mg of metallic zinc and mixing speed of 60 rpm, recovery efficiency of up to 100% was achieved in a noticeably short time such as 5 minutes and metallic antimony of 99% purity was obtained. When 100% recovery was achieved with zinc of 100 mg in single-stage cementation, the same yield was achieved with the addition of 40% less zinc in two-stage cementation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

27. Fertility Status and Spatial Distribution of Soil Properties for Tobacco Growing Lands in Tokat Province

In this study, a total of 202 surface (0-20 cm) soils were collected from the lands of the producers who made contractual production with private companies in the villages where tobacco cultivation is intensively carried out in the Erbaa district of Tokat province. Basic soil properties, macro phosphorus (P), potassium (K), calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg) and sodium (Na) and micro nutrient (Fe), zinc (Zn) copper (Cu) and manganese (Mn) concentrations of soil samples were determined. Spatial distributions of clay content, pH, EC, calcium carbonate, macro and micro nutrient concentrations of tobacco growing lands were modeled using geostatistical methods and spatial distributions were mapped. The coordinates of the sampling locations were recorded using a precise GPS. Soils were mostly neutral and slightly alkaline. Neutral soil pH is desired for sustainable tobacco production. Plants may not be able to uptake some of nutrients in soils with moderate alkalinity. In this case, the use of acid character fertilizers is recommended. All of the macro nutrients are at sufficient levels in the tobacco growing lands. Copper and iron concentrations were at sufficient levels in all fields. Plant available manganese was sufficient in almost half of the sampled lands, while it was insufficient in the other half. Available zinc concentration was well below the sufficient level in most of the lands. In order to increase the production to the desired level, fertilizers should be applied based on the plant requirement and soil analysis results. The registration of the soil sampling locations provides an opportunity to create a very useful database for researchers, producers and suppliers who want to understand how the quality of the tobacco growing lands has changed over time.

Calculation of biological variation (BV) components is very important in evaluating whether a test result is clinically significant. The aim of this study is to analyze BV components for copper, zinc and selenium in a cohort of healthy Turkish participants. A total of 10 serum samples were collected from each of the 15 healthy individuals (nine female, six male), once a week, during 10 weeks. Copper, zinc and selenium levels were analyzed by atomic absorption spectrometer. BV parameters were calculated with the approach suggested by Fraser. Analytical variation (CVA), within-subject BV (CVI), between-subject BV (CVG) values were 8.4, 7.1 and 4.3 for copper; 4.2, 9.1 and 13.7 for zinc; 7.6, 2.5 and 6.9 for selenium, respectively. Reference change values (RCV) were 30.46, 27.56 and 22.16% for copper, zinc and selenium, respectively. The index of individuality (II) values were 1.65, 0.66 and 0.36 for copper, zinc and selenium, respectively. According to the results of this study, traditional reference intervals can be used for copper but we do not recommend using it for zinc and selenium. We think that it would be more accurate to use RCV value for zinc and selenium in terms of following significant changes in recurrent results of a patient. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Amaç: Bu çalışmanın amacı dişi sıçanlarda DMBA ile oluşturulmuş meme kanserinde çinko ile melatonin uygulamasının uterus dokusundaki lipit peroksidasyonu üzerine olan etkilerinin araştırılmasıdır.Gereç ve Yöntem: Wistar cinsi sütten yeni kesilmiş toplam 42 adet dişi sıçan kullanılan araştırmada hayvanlar 5 gruba ayrıldı: Grup 1 Kontrol, Grup 2 DMBA Kontrol, Grup 3 DMBA+Çinko, Grup 4 DMBA+Melatonin, Grup 5 DMBA+Melatonin ve Çinko. Grup 1 dışındaki hayvanlara meme kanseri oluşturmak için kolza yağı kanola içinde 80 mg/kg dozunda DMBA gavaj yoluyla verildi. Çinko ve melatonin uygulanan gruplara 5 mg/kg/gün dozunda ip çinko, melatonin ve çinko+melatonin 4 hafta boyunca verildi. 33. Evaluation of Zinc and Copper Levels in Superficial Fungal Infections

Objective: Superficial fungal infections are one of the common skin diseases. Zinc and copper are essential elements for humans, and concentrations of these trace elements may vary in various inflammatory conditions. Our aim in this study is to measure serum zinc and copper levels in patients with superficial fungal infection and to evaluate its relationship with clinical types of the disease. Materials and Methods: This study included 81 patients diagnosed with superficial fungal infection (tinea capitis, faciei, pedis, unguim, corporis, and versicolor) who applied to the Department of Skin and Venereal Diseases, Faculty of Medicine, Selcuk University. Serum zinc and copper levels were measured in all patients. Results: The mean age of the patients was 36.68 ± 17.12, and 54 (66.6%) of patients were male and 27 (33.3%) were female. There were tinea versicolor in 32 (39.5%) of the patients and other dermatophytosis infections (tinea capitis, faciei, pedis, unguium and corporis) in 49 (60.5%) of the patients. The mean serum zinc levels of the patients were determined close to the lower limit of the normal reference range with 11.41 ± 2.07 µmol / L, but zinc and copper levels were within the normal reference range (normal reference values of zinc and copper; 11-19.5 µmol / L, 80-155 µg / dL, respectively). There was no statistically significant difference in zinc and copper levels between patients with tinea versicolor and patients with other dermatophyte infections (p = 0.348, p = 0.173, respectively). In addition, there was a negative correlation between serum zinc levels and age, serum copper levels showed a statistically significant negative relationship with male sex and smoking (r = -0.359, p = 0.001; r = -0.343, p = 0.002, r = -0.283 , p = 0.033, respectively). Discussion: In our study, the majority of patients with superficial fungal infections were men. It was determined that the frequency of dermatophyte infections increased as the mean age of the patients increased. Although serum zinc and copper levels measured in patients were within the normal reference range, especially zinc levels were close to the lower limit of reference values. In addition, it was observed that various factors such as age, gender and smoking affect zinc and copper levels. As a result of these data, we think that irregularities in serum zinc and copper levels may predispose to the development of fungal infections.

Bu çalışmada farklı oranlarda toprağa karıştırılan vermikompostun, çörek otu bitkisinin çinkolu gübre ihtiyacına etkisi araştırılmıştır. Sera şartlarında yürütülen denemede; çörek otu bitkisine mikoriza inokülasyonunun etkisi de belirlenmiştir. Bu amaçla yetiştirme toprağına %0; 2,5; 5, 10 ve 20 oranlarında vermikompost karıştırılmış ve 2 dozda çinkolu gübre (0-0,75 kg Zn/da) uygulanmıştır. Tohum ekimi sırasında kök bölgesine G. Mosseae türü mikoriza eklenmiş ve bitki gelişimi takip edilmiştir. Olgunlaşma dönemine gelen ve tohum teşekkülü gerçekleşen bitkiler hasat edilmiştir. Kökte spor ve hif sayısının vermikompost uygulamaları ile önemli oranda değiştiği belirlenmiştir. Bitkide kapsül sayısı, tane sayısı, tane ağırlığı, bitki boyu, biyomas, tane K, P içeriği ve Zn içeriği vermikompost uygulamaları ile önemli oranda etkilenmiştir Tane P, K, Fe ve Zn içerikleri de çinko uygulamaları ile önemli farklılıklar göstermiştir. Vermikompost ve mikoriza etkileşimi de kapsül tane sayısı, tane ağırlığı, tane K ve Fe içeriğinde önemli farklılık göstermiştir. Yapılan vermikompost, mikoriza ve Zn uygulamalarının üçlü interaksiyonu da bitki boyu ve tanede Zn içeriği dışındaki tüm parametrelerde önemli bulunmuştur. Sonuç olarak vermikompost uygulamasının bitki gelişim parametrelerini diğer dozlara göre olumlu yönde etkilediği ve %2,5 dozunun ekonomik olması nedeniyle tavsiye edilebileceği tespit edilmiştir.

Çinko; büyüme, hücre bölünmesi, metabolizma, yara iyileşmesi, bağışıklık, üreme, tat ve görme fonksiyonlarının işleyişi gibi birçok fizyolojik süreç için gerekli olan iki değerlikli bir geçiş iyondur. Çinko maruziyetinin insan eritrosit zarının bazı özellikleri üzerindeki etkisi in vitro olarak çalışıldı. Ayrıca, insan periferal kan lenfositlerinde, çinkonun genotoksik potansiyelini ortaya koymak için alkali comet analizi yapılmıştır. Farklı derişimdeki tüm Zn2+ çözeltilerinin, doza bağımlı bir şekilde lipit oksidasyonunu inhibe etmede oldukça zayıf bir etki göstermiştir. Eritrositlerin çinko ile inkübasyonunun ardından, çinkonun hücrelerin hemolitik direncini belirgin bir şekilde azalmaya yol açtığını da saptadık. 40. Zinc copper levels in patients with primary hyperparathyroidism.

Objective: Primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPTH) is an endocrine disorder with hypercalcemia due to increased parathormone (PTH) release. This study aims to investigate the relationship between PHPTH and serum zinc and copper levels. Method: 35 patients diagnosed with PHPT and 30 healthy control cases were included in the study. Serum zinc and copper levels were measured in all patients. Results: There was no difference between the groups in terms of age and gender. It was detected that serum Zn levels were significantly lower and serum Cu levels were higher in the PHPTH group compared to the control group (PHPTH Zn: 85.8±24.9 µ/dL, Cu: 81.2±13.8 µ/dL and Control Zn: 103.3±21.3 µ/dL, Cu: 72.6±13.3 µ/dL p = 0.004, p= 0.013, respectively). There was a weak positive correlation between serum Cu levels and PTH levels. Conclusions: Serum zinc and copper levels should be considered in the clarification of the pathogenesis of PHPTH and in treatment planning. Amaç: Primer hiperparatiroidi (PHPTH), artmış parathormon (PTH) salınımına bağlı hiperkalsemi ile seyreden endokrin bozukluktur. Bu çalışma, PHPTH ile serum çinko, bakır düzeyleri arasındaki ilişkiyi araştırmayı amaçlamaktadır. Yöntem: Çalışmaya PHPT tanısı konmuş 35 hasta ve 30 sağlıklı kontrol olgusu dahil edildi. Tüm hastalarda serum çinko ve bakır düzeyleri ölçüldü. Bulgular: Gruplar arasında yaş ve cinsiyet açısından fark yoktu. PHPTH grubunda serum Zn seviyeleri kontrol grubu ile karşılaştırıldığında önemli ölçüde düşük, serum Cu seviyeleri ise yüksek saptandı (sırasıyla PHPTH Zn: 85.8±24.9 µ/dL, Cu: 81.2±13.8 µ/dL ve Kontrol Zn: 103.3±21.3 µ/dL, Cu: 72.6±13.3 µ/dL p = 0.004, p= 0.013). Serum Cu seviyesi ile PTH seviyesi arasında pozitif zayıf korelasyon vardı. Nanoparticles (NP), which can be produced for many different fields and purposes; are at size vary from nanometer to a micrometer. These particles can be prepared by different approaches such as chemical, physical and biological methods. However, the biological approach is the most promising approach among other methods due to its simplicity and environmentally friendly conditions. The production of the nanoparticle by means of a biological approach does not require any high temperature, acidic/basic conditions and hazardous chemicals. Therefore, this method is named "green synthesis". Development in microtechnology has had profound effects in many areas such as drug discovery, biology, diagnosis, and tissue engineering. Microfluidics which focuses on the processing of liquids in microscale systems has attracted wide attention in the production process of nanoparticles due to precise control and fast mixing. The main purpose of this study is to produce and characterize metal nanoparticles by combining microsystems and green synthesis approaches. For this purpose, in the first step, the design of microsystems that suitable for the flow of different phases was performed. In the second step, ZnO nanoparticle synthesis was carried out using the red cabbage (Brassica oleracea var.capitata f. Rubra) extracts. The synthesis of nanoparticles achieved by optimizing different parameters such as; extract: zinc ratio, zinc solution concentration, flow rates, and flow rates ratio in the microsystem and temperature. In this study, the capability of chemically synthesized hydroxyapatitemagnetite (HAp/Fe3O4-MHAp) nanocomposite for the sorption of Zn(II) ions was investigated. Magnetite-hydroxyapatite nanocomposite (MHAp) has been chosen as an adsorbent because of its excellent properties such as stability, low cost and effective sorption power. Adsorption process were tried to find the optimum conditions of the parameters for Zn(II) removal such as pH, concentrations of initial Zn(II) and adsorbent and reaction time. Nanocomposite properties were also characterized by using Fouirer Transform Infrared Spektrofotometre (FTIR), Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and Energy-dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDX) techniques. Our results showed that the adsorption kinetic of Zn(II) using HAp/Fe3O4 composite fitted to the pseudo-second-order kinetic model. Calculations were carried out to determine which isotherm model the adsorption fits by using Langmuir, Freundlich, Tempkin, and Dubinin-Radushkevich (D-R) equations. Adsorption potential of MHAp nanocomposite was obtained 555.55 mg/g, and best removal value of 96% were determined at pH of 6.0, optimum adsorbent concentration of 6.25 g/L, in 25 mg/L Zn(II) concentration and optimum mixing time of 30 min. The aim of this study is to determine the effect of zinc (Zn), which is a common nutritional problem for both plant and human health, on corn and wheat plants. In the research carried out in greenhouse conditions, Zn (Zn0: 0 mg Zn kg-1, Zn5: 5 mg Zn kg-1) was applied to Çukurova and Niğde soils having a natural Zn deficiency and yield and mineral nutrient concentrations of wheat and corn plants were determined. Shoot dry matter yields of wheat and corn plants in both soils significant increased by Zn application. Zinc application caused to 20 and 76% shoot dry matter yield increase for wheat in Çukurova and Niğde soils. The increase in corn pants were greater which was 174% in Çukurova soil and 127% in Niğde soil. The Zn concentration was significantly increased with the increased shoot dry matter yield, while shoot Fe, Mn and Cu concentrations were decreased with Zn applications.

Amaç: Çalışmamızda Tip 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) hastalarında çinko (Zn) ve bakır (Cu) selenyum (Se), mangan (Mn) ve demir (Fe) eser elementlerinin serum düzeyleri ve oranlarındaki olası değişimi ve hastalık patogenezindeki rolleri araştırılmıştır. Gereç ve Yöntem: Çalışmaya 70 T2DM ve 40 sağlıklı birey dahil edilmiştir. Tüm bireylere ait serum Zn, Cu, Se, Mn ve Fe düzeyleri indüktif eşleşmiş plazma optik emisyon spektrofotometresi (ICP-OES) ile ölçülmüştür. Bulgular: Serum Zn, Se, Mn düzeylerinin T2DM grubunda kontrol grubuna göre anlamlı derecede azaldığı belirlendi (sırasıyla p lt;0,01, p lt;0,001, p lt;0,01). Cu ve Fe değerlerinin ise T2DM grubunda kontrol grubuna göre istatistiksel olarak anlamlı derecede arttığı belirlendi (sırasıyla p lt;0,001 p lt;0,05). T2DM grubunda Cu/Zn, Cu/Se, Cu/Mn oranları kontrol grubundan istatistiksel olarak daha yüksek olduğu bulundu (hepsi için p lt;0,001). Ayrıca, Fe/Zn, Fe/Se, Fe/Mn oranları kontrol grubundan istatistiksel olarak daha yüksek olduğu gözlendi (hepsi için p lt;0,01). Sonuç: Çalışmamızın bulgularını incelediğimizde eser elementlerin T2DM patogenezinde yer aldığını göstermektedir. T2DM hastalığında eser element seviyelerinin ve oranlarının ilişkili mekanizmalarını belirlemek için ileri çalışmalara ihtiyaç vardır.

Bu çalışma kuluçkalık bıldırcın yumurtalarına farklı seviyelerde çinko enjeksiyonunun performansa, serum, karaciğer ve kemik mineral kompozisyonuna etkisini belirlemek için yürütülmüştür. Çalışmada 400 adet kuluçkalık bıldırcın yumurtası; NK enjeksiyon yapılmayan kontrol, PK 0.2 ml seyreltici enjeksiyon yapılan kontrol, 20Zn 20 µg/yumurta çinko seviyesinde çinko-glisin + 0.2 ml seyreltici enjekte yapılan ve 40Zn 40 µg/yumurta çinko seviyesinde çinko-glisin + 0.2 ml seyreltici enjekte yapılan grup olacak şekilde dört muamele grubuna dağıtılmıştır. Her muamele grubunda her birinde 25 yumurta bulunan 4 tekerrür bulunmaktadır. Her muamele grubundan 60 adet civciv performans parametrelerini belirlemek amacıyla büyütme kafeslerine konulmuştur. Büyütme periyodunda bütün muamele gruplarına standart bıldırcın büyütme rasyonu verilmiştir. Muamelelerin karkas randımanı, bazı organ ağırlıkları, canlı ağırlık artışı, yem tüketimi, yemden yararlanma oranı, ölüm oranı, serum çinko, kalsiyum ve fosfor seviyeleri, karaciğer fosfor seviyesi, kalsiyum hariç kemik mineral seviyelerine önemli bir etkisi olmamıştır. Serum magnezyum seviyesi, karaciğer çinko, kalsiyum ve manganez seviyeleri ve 5. hafta kemik kalsiyum seviyesi muamele gruplarından önemli derecede etkilenmiştir. Kontrol grubuyla karşılaştırıldığında 20 µg/yumurta çinko enjekte edilmesi ile karaciğer çinko ve manganez seviyesi önemli derecede artmıştır. Bu sonuçlar bıldırcın yumurtalarına 20 µg/yumurta seviyesinde çinko enjeksiyonunun dokularda mineral birikimini olumlu etkilediğini göstermektedir.

49. Oğlaklarda Organik Bakır ve Çinko İz Minerallerinin Canlı Ağırlık ile Bu Minerallerin Birikim ve Atılma Düzeyleri Üzerine Etkisi

Bu çalışma, oğlakların rasyonuna eklenen inorganik bakır ve çinko ile inorganik formlarına göre %50 oranında daha düşük düzeylerde eklenen organik bakır (Cu) ve çinko (Zn) minerallerinin canlı ağırlık artışı, serum ve kıl ortalama değerleri ile dışkıda atılan miktar üzerine etkisini değerlendirmek için gerçekleştirilmiştir. Oğlaklara verilen rasyonun içerdiği bakır ve çinko minerallerine göre organik (deneme, n=12) ve inorganik (kontrol, n=12) olarak iki gruba ayrılmıştır. Kontrol grubuna bakır-sülfat 7 mg/kg KM, çinko-sülfat 20 mg/kg KM, deneme grubuna ise bakır-şelat (2-hydroxy–4-methylthiobutyrate) 3,5 mg/kg KM ve çinko-şelat (2-hydroxy–4-methylthiobutyrate) 10 mg/kg KM verilmiştir. Çalışma sonunda her iki grubun serum bakır ve çinko ile kıl bakır ve çinko ortalama değerlerinin deneme başına göre daha yüksek düzeyde olduğu saptanmıştır. İki gruba ait canlı ağırlık, serum bakır ve çinko ile kıl bakır ve çinko ortalama değerleri arasındaki farkın istatistiksel açıdan önemli olmadığı belirlenmiştir. Serum bakır ve çinko ile kıl bakır ortalama değerlerinin organik grubunda, kıl çinko ortalama değerinin ise inorganik grubunda rakamsal olarak daha yüksek düzeyde olduğu belirlenmiştir. Araştırmada dışkı çinko ve bakır ortalama değerlerinin organik grubunda inorganik gruba göre önemli oranda daha düşük olduğu görülmüştür. Sonuç olarak oğlakların rasyonuna organik bakır ve çinko inorganik formlarına göre %50 oranında daha düşük düzeylerde eklenmesine rağmen canlı ağırlık artışı, serum ve kıl ortalama değerleri bakımından inorganik bakır ve çinko ile benzer değerler elde edilmiştir. Bu değerler organik minerallerin daha iyi emildiklerini göstermektedir. Ayrıca organik mineral grubunda dışkı bakır ile dışkı çinko ortalama değerlerinin daha düşük düzeyde belirlenmesi, çevreye daha az miktarda saçıldıkları ve dolayısıyla çevreyi daha az kirlettikleri kanaati oluşturmuştur.

50. Effects of Zinc Oxide Nanoparticles on the Expression of Zinc Transporter 1-4 Genes in the Hippocampus of Male Rats Under Acute Stress.

Zinc transporters (ZnT) and ZIP proteins maintain Zinc homeostasis in the live organisms. On the other hand, the impacts of zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) on the expression of the Znt genes in biological systems were not clear yet. So that in this experimental study we have tried to find the effects of ZnO NPs on Znt1-4 genes expression in the hippocampus of male rats under acute stress. Adult male rats were divided into groups of control and treated with 5 or 10 mg/kg of ZnO NPs alone and under acute restraint stress for 90 min. The changes in the expression of the selected genes were monitored using real-time qRT-PCR. The ZnT4 protein expression also was measured by Western blotting. Real-time qRT-PCR expression analysis revealed that the Znt1 gene expression was up-regulated in the stress group, while the expression of the Znt1 and Znt4 genes was significantly up-regulated in the group receiving 10 mg/kg of ZnO NPs. Furthermore, in the ZnO NPs 10 mg/kg group under stress, the Znt2 gene expression was down-regulated, while the Znt4 gene expression was up-regulated. Moreover, the levels of ZnT4 protein were significantly increased after 10 mg/kg of ZnO NPs injection in the stress and normal groups. According to these results ZnO NPs administration can cause changes in the expression of a number of zinc transporter genes under stress conditions and increases the ZnT4 protein level. Therefore, this is a valuable approach for forecast investigation in biomedicine and pharmacogenetics studies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
