Background. Although physical inactivity may lead to increasing obesity prevalence, research on anthropometric variables changes based on physical activity (PA) in children and adolescents is limited. PA decreases with age, while sedentary behavior increases. The study aimed to examine differences in objectively measured sedentary time, light-intensity physical activity (LPA), and moderate-to-vigorous intensity physical activity (MVPA) between children and adolescents, and the differences in the percentiles of anthropometric variables between physically active and inactive groups according to World Health Organization PA recommendations. Methods. A total of 759 participants aged 6-17 years (boys, n=358; girls, n=401) were included in the study. The ActiGraph wGT3x-BT accelerometer was used to measure sedentary time, LPA, and MVPA. Height, weight, waist circumference (WC), triceps skinfold thickness (T-SFT), and medial-calf skinfold thickness (M-SFT) were measured. Body fat percentage (BF%) and body mass index (BMI) were calculated, and the percentiles of anthropometric variables were categorized. Results. The findings showed that children had less sedentary time and a higher LPA than adolescents for both genders (p<0.05). Children had a higher MVPA than adolescents in girls (p<0.05), but the difference was insignificant in boys (p>0.05). In boys, physically active children were in lower percentiles for T-SFT and BF% than those who did not (p<0.05). In boys, adolescents who were physically inactive were in higher percentiles for BMI, T-SFT, M-SFT, and BF% (p<0.05). In addition, in girls, adolescents who were physically active were in lower percentiles of BMI, M-SFT, and BF%, whereas children who were physically active were in lower percentiles of M-SFT and BF% (p<0.05). Conclusion. Sedentary time increases while PA decreases with age. Children and adolescents who met the WHO PA recommendation had lower percentiles of anthropometric variables, indicating the importance of PA in preventing obesity in these age groups. Objective: Mastalgia is often ignored by physicians although it is the most common breast-related complaint among women. The effectiveness of exercise therapy for mastalgia is unclear. The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of exercise on mastalgia. Methods: A randomized controlled trial was conducted with twenty women with complaints of mastalgia fulfilling the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Patients were randomly assigned to the control group and to the exercise group. Sports brassiere, refraining from caffeine- and methylxanthine-containing foods, and simple analgesics were recommended for two groups. In the exercise group, an exercise program was conducted three times a week for 6 weeks. Participants in both groups were evaluated for breast pain and using the Short-Form Health Survey (SF-36) questionnaire before and six weeks after study. Serum cytokine levels were also collected and analyzed. Results: No significant differences were detected with respect to age, body mass index, menopausal status, psychiatric condition, and existence of unexplained pain syndromes between the groups. Total breast pain scores were similar in both groups. The sensory component of breast pain questionnaire and visual analogue scale values significantly improved via exercise in only exercise group (p = 0.012 and p = 0.016). There was no significant difference between groups in serum levels of cytokines. SF-36 subscale scores for general health and social functioning significantly improved in the control group and scores for role physical, bodily pain, and social functioning improved in exercise group. Conclusions: Based on our preliminary findings, exercise treatment is beneficial for patients with mastalgia and it can be suggested by clinicians. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]

INTRODUCTION: Nowadays, with the rapid increase in the rate of participation in sports and physical activities, interests to carry out studies for the prevention of injuries has considerably increased. The purpose of this study, is to investigate the effect of the post-exercise ankle muscle groups’ fatigue, on ankle proprioception in the target angles of eversion, inversion, plantar flexion and dorsal flexion. MATERIAL-METHOD: 20 men who aged between 18-35 were included in the study who either are sedentary or maintain physical activity recreationally. In separate days with at least 4 days long from each other, using the Biodex Multi-Joint System-Pro dynamometer, ankle active and passive proprioception, were measured in angles of, in turn, 1st day; eversion (10°), 2nd day; Inversion (20°), 3rd day; plantar flexion (25°) and 4th day; dorsal flexion (15°). After proprioception testing isokinetic fatigue exercise was implemented. Then the proprioception measurements done before fatigue, was repeated after fatigue. RESULTS: Active proprioception, is significantly affected by post-exercise fatigue at the angles of inversion 20° and plantar flexion 25° (p <0.05). Active proprioception, was not affected at the angles of eversion 10° and dorsiflexion 15°, and passive proprioception is not affected by post-exercise fatigue at any angle. CONCLUSION: Ankle invertor and plantar flexor muscles fatigue has led to impairment of the active proprioception. Therefore, the weakness and fatigue of the invertor and plantar flexor muscles is thought to be one of the leading factors for the most common ankle inversion sprain. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: The aim of this study is to evaluate early phase depression and anxiety in the proffessional athletes who underwent anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction and compare them with the functional improvement of knee., Methods: Thirty-eight patients (35 males, 3 females; mean age±SD: 26.84±8.03) were included in this study. Measurements were obtained immediately following the operation and at Week 6 of postoperative rehabilitation. Depression and anxiety symptoms were evaluated by the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), and knee function was evaluated by Lysholm Knee Scoring Scale (LKSS)., Results: Change in total LKSS scores from the time of admission (56.4±20.2) to the end of the sixth week (78.7±13.8) was significant (t=-8.21, p<0.001). Neither the HADS depression nor the HADS anxiety scores were above the cutoff values in the 2 assessments. Significant difference was noted in HADS anxiety scores between the time of admission (6.21±3.50) and at the sixth week (5.33±3.33) (t=2.02, p=0.05). However, HADS depression scores were not statistically different between the 2 evaluations (5.95±3.68 and 5.35±3.50 at admission and Week 6 week, respectively) (t=1.07, p=0.29). Changes between the 2 LKSS and HADS anxiety assessments were negatively correlated (r=-0.49, p=0.002), but there no correlation was detected between the total LKSS and HADS score changes., Conclusion: The decline of the signs of anxiety and depression at the sixth week of rehabilitation indicate that proper rehabilitation positively affects the emotional status of ACL reconstruction patients.
