Aim: This study aimed to examine the effect of sensorimotor interventions (SI) on feeding readiness and oral feeding success in preterm infants. Method: A parallel, prospective, and randomized controlled study. The study data were collected between 1 June 2020-1 June 2021 and study sample comprised 60 preterm infants with a gestational age of 30-33 weeks. A combined sensorimotor intervention, including Tactile/Kinesthetic Stimulation + Non-nutritive sucking (NNS), was applied to the intervention group. The Control group applied only a SI as NNS. Results: T-POFRAS feeding readiness scores were higher in the intervention group (p = 0.000). The feeding success level of the intervention was higher. Although hospital discharge time and transition to full breastfeeding of the intervention group were shorter, it was not statistically significant (p = 0.078). Conclusion: It was found that combined SIs were effective in enhancing oral feeding readiness and feeding success levels in preterm infants.

Introduction: This study aimed to estimate the prevalence of physical intimate partner violence among older women, identify factors associated with victimization, and gather information on the intergenerational transmission of violence. Materials and Method: This population-based cross-sectional study was conducted in Karabuk Province and included 399 ever-married women aged 65 years and older. The dependent variable was exposure to physical violence by a current or former spouse. Independent variables included women's sociodemographic and reproductive characteristics, their experience of violence in childhood, and some characteristics of their husbands and parents. The crude and adjusted prevalence ratios were estimated to explore the relationship between the dependent and independent variables using robust Poisson regression analysis. Results: The prevalence of physical intimate partner violence was 62.9% for the lifetime and 7.6% for the past year. Lifetime prevalence increased 1.2-fold with low household income, 1.4-fold with seven or more pregnancies, 1.3-fold with daily or weekly alcohol consumption by the husband, 1.3-fold with witnessing father-to-mother violence in childhood, and 1.5-fold with experiencing physical violence by parents in childhood. Women were more likely to use violence against their children if they had experienced violence in childhood and adulthood. Conclusion: This study's finding of high lifetime and past-year prevalence of exposure to intimate partner violence highlights the need for more efforts to address intimate partner violence among older women. More research is needed to better understand older women's experiences of intimate partner violence and identify health and social policy approaches to meet their support and assistance needs. Background: The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has infected millions of people, including pregnant women and newborns and caused many deaths. Studies examining the effects of COVID-19 infection in pregnancy have mostly focused on maternal outcomes and there are limited data on neonatal outcomes. Objectives: This study aims to compare the early postnatal period clinical outcomes of newborns born to pregnant women with and without COVID-19. Methods: A retrospective case–control study was used to compare the clinical characteristics of newborns born to pregnant women with and without COVID-19. This study was conducted between 11 March 2020 and 11 March 2021 at Denizli State Hospital, Turkey. This study included 202 newborns selected with a nonprobability method. The clinical records and laboratory results of 202 newborns were reviewed by applying a retrospective questionnaire. Neonatal outcomes were compared between the groups. Results: There were 101 newborns born to pregnant women with COVID-19 in the case group and 101 without COVID-19 in the control group in the study. A considerably higher rate of newborns born to pregnant women with COVID-19 had cesarean delivery (79.2 versus 35.6%, p <.001), premature birth (28.7 versus 10.9%, p =.001), low birth weight (15.8 versus 6.9%, p =.046), neonatal respiratory distress syndrome (RDS) (37.6 versus 19.8%, p =.005), oxygen need (19.8 versus 37.6, p =.005), and neonatal intensive care unit admission (10.9 versus 37.6%, p =.001). Breastfeeding (1.0 versus 67.3%, p <.001) and nutrition with breast milk rates (33.7 versus 80.2%, p <.001) of newborns born to pregnant women with COVID-19 were significantly lower. The results of 101 newborns who received nasopharyngeal swab samples for COVID-19 were negative. Conclusion: Newborns born to pregnant women with COVID-19 were more likely to experience preterm birth, cesarean delivery, low birth weight, neonatal RDS, oxygen demand, need for intensive care, and breastfeeding problems. Background: Child hospitalization is a stressful experience for both children and their parents. Parents should establish effective communication with healthcare professionals to be able to participate in the care of their children in the hospital environment. Aims and Objectives: The purpose of the study was to determine the effect of parental participation in the care of hospitalized children on parent satisfaction and parent and child anxiety. Design The design used for this study was randomized controlled trial. Methods: The study data were collected between 1 February and 31 May 2016. Frequency, percentage, paired t test, Mann–Whitney U and Wilcoxon were used to analyse the data. Results: The study compared the parents' pretest and posttest scores on the anxiety and found that there was a statistically significant difference between the posttest scores of intervention and control groups. There was also a statistically significant difference parental participation and overall satisfaction subscales of the parent satisfaction as well as their total scores and mean scores. Comparison of the children's posttest scores on the anxiety inventory also found a statistically significant difference. Conclusion: The study concluded that parental participation in the care of hospitalized children increases parent satisfaction with healthcare, and reduces anxiety of both parents and children. Child hospitalization is a stressful experience for both children and their families.Physical impairment, invasive interventions, surgery, death, pain and experiencing loss of control are among the reasons that children feel anxious in the hospital environment.Parental participation is an essential element of quality of care for children in hospital. However, there is often confusion in role perception between parents and nurses which may be affected by nurses' attitudes, their ability to provide information, their communication and interpersonal skills and willingness to relinquish control. What this paper adds? Parental participation in the care of hospitalized children increases parent satisfaction with healthcare, and reduces anxiety of both parents and children.Nurses confirmed the belief that parents' participation in the child's care is an important part of nursing in paediatric care and suggested that the nurses should play the role of being the communicator with the parents.The study indicates that there is a need for hospital management to develop clinical routines and staff guidelines for parental involvement in paediatric care. The implications of this paper: Nurses need to be aware of the impact their communication has on parents and help them to clarify their role as parents in hospital.For clinical practice, checklists and staff guidelines could be useful tools in arriving at an understanding of how to work with children's parents. Objective: This study examined the effect of breast milk on oral care practices in neonatal intensive care units. Methods: This study involved 64 preterm infants (intervention/breast milk: 32, control/distilled water: 32) and was carried out with a prospective, parallel, randomized controlled design. The "Newborn Oral Health Assessment Tool (NOHAT)" was used to assess oral care. The Mann-Whitney U test, continuity correction test, Fisher's exact test, independent-samples T test, and Wilcoxon signed ranks test were used to analyze the data. Results: Examining the oral care performed using breast milk and distilled water with NOHAT scores, it was determined that there was a significant difference in the intervention group ( p < 0.05). Conclusions: It is recommended to use breast milk for oral care.
