Numerous industrial applications, particularly those in the transport industry, require the joining of dissimilar materials which offers considerable benefits in terms of low cost, design flexibility, and weight reduction for overall structures. The problems associated with conventional fusion welding processes have stimulated researchers in recent years to develop new joining methods for dissimilar materials which are particularly difficult to join. Friction stir welding (FSW) originally developed for joining difficult-to-weld Al-alloys and FSSW (a variant of FSW for spot welding) have exhibited great potential for obtaining sound joints in various dissimilar alloy systems in different configurations namely butt-, lap- and spot-welding, particularly in dissimilar Al-alloys systems with different properties, which are very difficult to weld using conventional fusion welding techniques. A major difficulty in joining dissimilar Al-alloys by FSW/FSSW lies in the discontinuity in mechanical and technological properties (such as high-temperature strength, plastic deformation capacity, viscosity, etc.) of the materials to be welded across the abutting surfaces. This discontinuity as well as inherent asymmetry in heat generation and material flow of FWS/FSSW processes causes a higher asymmetry in materials flow behavior in dissimilar welding. However, it is relatively easier to implement the FSW/FSSW process to dissimilar Al-alloys in contrast to FSW of dissimilar materials combinations with very differing properties, such as Al-alloy to Mg-alloy or Al-alloy to steel.

Östenitik paslanmaz çelikler, düşük sıcaklıklarda bile çok iyi şekillendirilebilirlik, iyi mekanik özellikler ve yüksek korozyon direnci gibi özelliklere sahiptir. Bu çalışma, gaz tungsten ark kaynağı yöntemi ile AISI 316L levhalarda kaynak hatası içermeyen bağlantıların üretilmesini amaçlamaktadır. Bu amaca yönelik, 10 mm kalınlığında AISI 316L levhalar, 2,4 mm çapında ER316L dolgu teli kullanılarak beş pasoda kaynaklanmıştır. Elde edilen kaynaklı levhanın mikroyapısal ve mekanik özelliklerini araştırmak ve karakterize etmek için çekme testi yanında detaylı optik mikroskop çalışmaları ve mikro sertlik ölçümleri gerçekleştirilmiştir. Çok pasolu kaynağın mikroyapısal değişim üzerindeki etkisi ve dolayısıyla üretilen bağlantının mekanik davranışını nasıl etkilediği de araştırılmıştır. Yapılan çalışma sonucunda, kaynak bölgesinde herhangi bir hata gözlenmemiş olup, kaynaklı bağlantının çekme mukavemeti ve uzama açısından sırası ile %104 ve %58 lik bir kaynak performansı sergilediği tespit edilmiştir. Ayrıca, ergime bölgesinde ve ısıdan etkilenen bölgede sertlik artışı gözlemlenmiştir., Austenitic stainless steels possess properties such as very good formability, good mechanical properties and high corrosion resistance even at low temperatures. As a result, it is the most produced and most widely used type among all stainless steels. However, there are many problems in welding of these steels. The most common of these problems is the decrease in corrosion resistance in the heat-affected zone as a result of the formation of chromium carbide. This study aims to produce defect-free joints in AISI 316L plates by gas tungsten arc welding method. For this purpose, 10 mm thick AISI 316L plates were welded in five passes using 2.4 mm diameter ER316L filler wire. In order to investigate and characterize the microstructural and mechanical properties of the welded plate, detailed optical microscopy studies and microhardness measurements were conducted as well as tensile testing. The effect of multi-pass welding on microstructural evolution and in turn on the mechanical behavior of the joint fabricated was also investigated. As a result of the study, no defects were observed in the weld region, and it was determined that the welded joint exhibited a weld performance of 104% and 58%, in terms of tensile strength and elongation, respectively. In addition, an increase in hardness was observed in the fusion zone and the heat affected zone.

In parallel to continuously increasing demand for liquefied natural gas (LNG) which is a clean energy source, the use of 9% Ni steel plates is also increasing in the production of LNG storage tanks, due to their outstanding combination of properties such as excellent toughness, high ductility and cracking resistance at very low temperatures. During the welding of this material, low temperature fracture toughness should be kept at an acceptable level within the weld region including both fusion and heat affected zones. This study introduces the result of microstructural evolution in the weld region and the mechanical properties of the gas tungsten arc welded 10 mm thick 9% Ni containing low alloy steel joint produced by using a Ni-based filler wire. The microstructures evolved in the weld region were examined by extensive optical microscopy investigations. Mechanical properties and joint performance values of the welded joints were determined by detailed microhardness measurements and transverse tensile tests. Moreover, impact energy of the joint fabricated was also determined at -196 °C by Charpy impact test (Charpy V-notch test) and compared with the fracture toughness of the base plate at the same temperature., Sıvılaştırılmış doğal gaza (LNG) olan talebin sürekli artmasına paralel olarak LNG depolama tanklarının imalinde düşük sıcaklıklarda mükemmel tokluk, yüksek süneklik ve çatlama direnci gibi olağanüstü özelliklere sahip olan %9 Ni içerikli çelik levhaların kullanımı da artmaktadır. Ayrıca, kaynaklı bağlantının -196 °C’deki darbe enerjisi Charpy çentikli darbe deneyi ile tespit edilmiş ve esas levhanın bu sıcaklıktaki kırılma tokluğu ile mukayese edilmiştir.

Fakat çeliklerin kaynağında, bu işlemlerde açığa çıkan sıcaklıklara dayanabilecek karıştırıcı takımlardaki kısıtlamalarından ötürü, geniş çaplı olarak kullanılamamaktadır. Bu çalışmada, SKK ile birleştirilen St37/St52 farklı düşük karbonlu çeliklerin mekanik özellikleri ve içyapısındaki değişimlerin araştırılması amaçlanmıştır. Elde edilen sonuçlara göre, kaynak bölgesi, Widmanstatten ferrit, sementit kümesi içeren veya içermeyen ferrit ve tane sınırı ferriti gibi karmaşık içyapılardan oluşmaktadır. Karıştırma bölgesindeki en yüksek sertlik, katı hal dönüşümleri ve tane incelmesinden dolayı yaklaşık 347 HV’ye ulaşmaktadır. Birleştirilen levhalar, 389 MPa’lık bir çekme mukavemeti değeri sergilemiş olup, bu değer sırasıyla St37 ve St52 çeliklerinin çekme mukavemet değerleri olan 373 ve 526 MPa’ın arasında bir değerdir. Bağlantının akma dayanımı 272 MPa olarak bulunmuştur. The aim of this study is to investigate the change in the mechanical properties and the microstructures of FSW’ed St37/St52 dissimilar low carbon steels joints. The results obtained indicate that the weld region is comprised of complex microstructures such as Widmanstatten ferrite, ferrite with or without carbide aggregates and grain boundary ferrite. The maximum hardness in the stir zone reached up to about 347 HV due to the solid state transformations and grain refinement. The welded plates displayed an ultimate tensile strength of about 389 MPa, which lies between the ultimate tensile strength of St37 and St52 steels, 373 and 526 MPa, respectively. The yield strength of the joint was found to be about 272 MPa. This value is also a value between those of the base plates.

Bu çalışmada, dört farklı kalınlıktaki AA6061-T6 levhaların sürtünme karıştırma kaynağı ile hatasız birleştirilebilmesi için kullanılması gereken kaynak parametreleri belirlenmeye çalışılmıştır. Bu amaçla, her bir levha kalınlığı için bir olmak üzere, dört farklı karıştırıcı takım temin edilmiş ve bu uçlar kullanılarak her bir levha kalınlığı için uygun kaynak parametreleri tayin edilmiştir. Elde edilen kaynaklı bağlantıların makro ve mikro boyutta içyapısı incelenmiş, çekme deneyi ve sertlik ölçümleri ile mekanik özellikleri belirlenmiştir. Bu çalışma, farklı kalınlıklardaki AA6061-T6 alaşımı levhaların uygun karıştırıcı takımlar ve kaynak parametreleri ile başarılı bir şekilde birleştirilebileceğini ortaya koymuştur., In this study, it was aimed to determine the weld parameters required in order to successfully join AA6061-T6 plates with four different thicknesses by FSW. For this purpose, four different stirring tools (one tool for each plate thickness) have been obtained and used to determine suitable weld parameters for each plate thickness. The microstructures of the joints obtained were investigated in both macro- and micro-scale, and their mechanical properties were determined by conducting microhardness measurements and tensile testing. The current study clearly indicated that AA6061-T6 plates with different thicknesses can be successfully FS welded provided that suitable stirring tools and weld parameters are used.

Welding process is often used in joining of similar and dissimilar steel sheets in the automotive industry. In these joining applications, resistance spot welding is the most commonly used welding method. There are on average around 3000 or 6000 spot welds in a car. The advantages of resistance spotwelding are as follows: it is a relative clean and environmentally friendly process, suitable for automation and readily applicable, does not require filler metal, produce open flame that can cause accidentsand injury, and require an expert operator. This study provides information about manuel and roboticspot welding applications which are performed on the vehicle body. It focusses on different types ofspot welding electrodes used, their cooling methods, maintenance and life-cycles. In addition, spotwelding optimization which is used for increasing weld quality during mass production is mentioned., Otomotiv sektöründe farklı ve aynı türdeki çelik sacların birleştirilmesinde sıklıkla kaynak işlemi kullanılmaktadır. Bu çalışmada, araç gövdesi üzerinde manuel ve robotik otomasyonlarla gerçekleştirilenpunta kaynak uygulamaları hakkında bilgi verilmiştir. Punta kaynak işleminde kullanılan farklı elektrotlar, bunların soğutulması, bakımları ve ömürleri üzerinde durulmuştur. Ayrıca, seri üretimde puntakaynak kalitesini arttırmak için yapılan kaynak parametrelerinin optimizasyonu da ele alınmıştır.

Al-alloys are widely used in the transportation industries due to their low density and excellent formability properties. These alloys, which are problematic in fusion-welding processes, can be successfully joined by friction-stir welding. Particularly high-strength AA7075 alloy is considered to be non-weldable by fusion welding. Friction-stir welding, being a solid-state joining technique, can also be successfully used in joining other difficult-to-weld alloys. In this study, 3.17-mm-thick, AA7075 Al-alloy plates both in the O- and T6-temper conditions were joined by friction-stir welding using four different weld parameters. Microstructural and mechanical characterizations of the joints produced were obtained with detailed optical microscopy investigations, extensive hardness measurements and tensile tests. The effect of temper condition on the joint performance was determined in addition to the effect of the weld parameters on the joint quality. Z varjenjem s trenjem se je mogoče izogniti težavam, ki nastopajo med talilnim varjenjem teh zlitin, in sicer predvsem napakam ob liniji zlitja. Predvsem visokotrdnostna aluminijeva zlitina AA7075 se šteje kot težko variva s talilnim varjenjem. Varjenje s trenjem se je izkazalo kot ustrezen postopek za spajanje te zlitine. V okviru prispevka smo s trenjem zavarili 3.17 mm debelo ploščo iz aluminijeve zlitine AA7075 v dveh stanjih: brez popuščanja (stanje O) in z njim (stanje T6). Varili smo večkrat z različnimi parametri varjenja s trenjem. Iz zavarjenih plošč smo pripravili vzorce in eksperimentalno ugotovili mehanske lastnosti. Izmerili smo trdoto in naredili natezne preizkuse ter opravili podrobne metalografske preiskave. Dodatno k učinku parametrov varjenja na kvaliteto spoja je bil določen tudi učinek popuščanja, ki se izraža pri varilnih parametrih in s tem vpliva na kakovost zavarjenega spoja.

Ergitme kaynak yöntemleri ile Al-alaşımlarının kaynağında yüksek miktarlarda çatlak ve porozite oluşumu gibi problemler mevcuttur. In addition to the advantages of laser beam welding mentioned above, an increased gap bridging ability as well asa significant increase in welding speed can also be obtained when it is employed in combination with gas metal arc welding process (so-called hybrid welding). Both the laser beam and the arc welding processes have long been employed for industrial production. Both the laser arid the arc welding methods have advantages over each other. The welding procedure in which both laser and arc welding are used together is called laser-arc hybrid welding. The higher gap bridging, shorter fabrication times and higher productivity can be achieved by combining the advantages of both laser and arc welding processes in this new welding method. Furthermore, the high cooling rates leading to the formation of brittle phases in the weld region of laser beam welding process can be reduced in hybrid welding, thus eliminating this problem.
