Objective: The number of studies that suggest the possible role of immune abnormalities in the pathogenesis of obsessive-compulsive disorder(OCD) are increasing. Our aim here is to determine the relationship between neutrophil lymphocyte ratio(NLR) and children and adolescents with OCD.NLR and platelet lymphocyte ratio(PLR) are new, inexpensive, easily reproducible indicators used for the determination of low grade inflammation. Method: In this study, retrospective records of 32 children and adolescents with OCD were screened, and the NLR, PLR,monocyte lymphocyte ratio (MLR) data obtained from the pre-treatment complete blood count were compared with the same data of the healthy control group with similar characteristics. Results: The NLR was found lower in children and adolescents with OCD compared to the control group; yet PLR and MLR were not significantly different. Discussion: Inflammation might play a role in the etiopahogenesis of OCD. The NLR may be potential inlammation markers for OCD in children. © 2020 ANP Publishing. All rights reserved.

Purpose: Neoplasms of the thyroid gland are classified according to the cells they originate from and commonly develop from cells of follicular origin. The most common differentiated thyroid cancers (DTC) are papillary and follicular carcinomas. Coexistence of two different histological types of primary follicular thyroid neoplasm is a rare condition. There are previous reports of concomitant medullary and papillary thyroid cancers. However, there is scarce data about the simultaneous occurrence of the two different histological types of primary follicular thyroid tumors and this is the first study on that subject. Material and Method: From January 2007 to September 2014, our institutional database was reviewed for patients who underwent thyroid surgery for various indications. Medical records and cytopathology reports of those patients were examined retrospectively. Simultaneous neoplasms of follicular origin were noted. Results: A total of 3.700 patients were operated. Histopathological examination revealed a benign pattern in 2.686 (73%) patients and a malignant pattern in 1.014 (27%) patients. Among the patients with the diagnosis of DTC, only 20 (1.9%) had a concomitant neoplasm within the same thyroid gland. Discussion: Such simultaneous tumors may be a part of a familial tumor syndrome or an unidentified novel gene mutation playing role in the pathogenesis of more than one type of tumor. Based on the current evidence, the synchronous occurrence of those neoplasms in a given patient is likely coincidental in the literature. Purpose: Adoption of an inactive lifestyle and wrong nutritional habits during puberty leads to an increase in the risk of chronic illnesses during adulthood. Purpose of this study is to specify nutritional and physical activity habits of students of Kırıkkale University Health Sciences Faculty. Method: Students of Kırıkkale University Medical Sciences Faculty were included in the study. Their socio-demographic data was recorded and their nutritional behaviours/ habits were questioned. Their physical activity levels were specified by using the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ). Results: Mean ages were 20.38±1.69 years for female students and 20.96±2.04 years for male students. Body Mass Index (BMI) was 21.10±3.21 kg/m2 for female students and 23.54±3.39 kg/m2 for male students. 45.8% of the students have their lunches at school or dormitory cafeteria, 49.5% have dinner outside of home or dormitory. 69.7% have breakfast every day. Having breakfast rate of male students is lower than female students (p0.05). Conclusions: Medical Sciences Faculty students do not have adequate physical activity levels. Regarding their nutritional habits, it is observed that they have some bad habits such as; skipping meals, not drinking enough water and milk, and preferring fast food. Medical professionals particularly have a duty to be role models in healthy life-style which includes both adequate and balanced nutrition and regular exercise. More comprehensive studies are needed to evaluate lifestyles of medical students and to plan corrective measures in our country. © GATA.

This study aimed to adapt Nature Relatedness (NR) Scale into Turkish. This scale was developed by Nisbet, Zelenski and Murphy (2009) to measure cognitive, affective and physical connection of people with nature. While the instrument was being adapted to Turkish, the characteristics of Turkish language, cultural, social and environmental structures were considered. During the translation process, expert opinions were taken for the language validity. Data set was collected from 859 (449 female, 408 male, 2 participants did not indicate gender) university students. In order to provide construct validity, exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) were conducted. EFA results revelaed that the scale included three dimensions with 44.71% variation. CFA analysis indicated good fit indices (RMSEA= .078, CFI= .94 GFI= .87, X2/sd= 4.78). These three sub-dimensions were NR-self, NR-perspective and NR-experience. Cronbach-alpha reliability coefficient of NR scale was found as .88. As for reliability, Cronbach-alpha reliability coefficient of NR-self, NR-perspective and NR-experience were found respectively as .87, .74 and .73. Furthermore, to support construct vailidity the relationships between NR and pro-environmental behaviors, NR and environmental concerns and NR and frequency of outdoor activities were investigated. The results revealed that Turkish version of the Nature Relatedness Scale was a reliable and valid instrument and the scale was explained well with three factors. © 2015, Ankara University. In this study, new eleven hydrazone derivatives of (5-chloro-2(3H)-benzothiazolinone-3-yl) aceto/propanohydrazide have been synthesized. Structures of the synthesized compounds have been elucidated by IR and 1H-NMR spectral data and their elemental analyses. All compounds were screened for their antiviral and antimicrobial activities aganist various virus, bacteria and fungi strains
