This study aims to investigate the relationship between pre-service form, elementary mathematics and elementary science teacher's STEM awareness and questioning skills. In addition to this aim, whether differences existed or not was also investigated in terms of the gender, class level and department variables. A total of 195 pre-service teachers participated in the study from the 3rd and 4thyears in the fall semester of the academic year of 2019-2020. The STEM Awareness and Questioning Skills Scales were used in this correlation study. Non-parametric tests were used in data analysis. For the STEM awareness positive opinion dimension, statistically significant differences were found in favour of the 4thyear participants. For the questioning skills knowledge control dimension, a statistically significant difference was found according to the gender in favour of the male participants. A medium-level positive relationship was found between the STEM awareness positive opinion dimension and the questioning skills dimensions, while a low-level relationship was found between the negative opinions and questioning skills dimensions.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of interactive boards applications supported by computer simulations on pre-service science teachers' self-regulated learning. Quasi-experimental research with pre test/post test control group design was used in the study. Pre-service science teachers in Siirt University, education faculty, science education department, constructed study group. Sections was randomly assigned experimental and control groups. In experimental group 32 pre-service science teachers (11 male 21 female), in control group 33 pre-service science teachers (13 male 20 female) were assigned to the groups. In total, 65 pre-service science teachers participated to the study. "Motivated strategies for learning questionnaire" was applied as the data collection tool. The questionnaire was translated into Turkish by Büyüköztürk and et.al. (2004). During the analysis in this respect, arithmetic averages, standard deviation, independent sampling t-test and analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) were used. The study compared the pre-test and post test scores of the science teacher candidates in the experiment and control group with SPSS 16.0 statistical package software.

Objective: This study assessed the status of dynamic thiol/disulfide balance (Dt/dB) among pregnant women throughout pregnancy in order to examine the possible interaction between iron deficiency anemia (IDA) and oxidative stress (OS). Methods: The investigation was designed as a prospective cohort study at the Obstetric Care Service of the Haseki Training and Research Hospital (Istanbul). Ninety pregnant women were divided into 2 groups: 45 with IDA and 45 without this condition. They were also placed into first-, second-, and third-trimester groups, with 15 participants in each group. The study gathered sociodemographic information and conducted analyses on blood samples to assess circulating (Dt/dB) status, ferritin, iron, total iron-binding capacity, and other pertinent hematological and biochemical factors. Results: There were no notable disparities observed in the thiol/disulfide equilibrium between pregnant women with or without IDA. Nevertheless, notable disparities were determined when comparing circulating disulfide values, as well as reduced thiol ratio (RTR) and thiol oxidation-reduction ratio (TORR) in relation to ferritin levels. Women with ferritin levels <20 µg/L exhibited considerably lower circulating disulfide values and significantly higher RTR and TORR values. Conclusions: Pregnant women with low levels of circulating ferritin show signs of heightened OS, as demonstrated by changes in Dt/dB measures. Tracking ferritin levels offers a more precise evaluation of OS, indicating that ferritin is a crucial indicator for OS in this specific group. It is crucial to conduct additional studies using larger and more similar groups in order to confirm these findings and enhance clinical results for both mothers and their infants. This qualitative study was designed to introduce 3-dimensional and digital materials to pre-service science teachers and identify their views about them. In this context, three projects was performed with 42 pre-service science teachers (13 male-29 female) who took Instructional Technologies and Material Development course in Elementary Science Education Department in Siirt University. First project was to prepare a movie by using photos and music, second one was to prepare a power-point presentation that contains an animation and their own sound and third one was a 3 dimensional material that can be used during class time. Four open ended questions were asked to all participants to obtain their views about these materials. The results were analyzed with the conventional content analysis. Results indicated that most of the participants believe that the digital material prepared in project 1 enhance retention and take students' attention. In project two, participants thought that the digital material facilitates learning and save class time for teacher. In project 3, while 78% of participants thought positive for the 3 dimensional materials and claim that they facilitate learning and enhance retention, 22% of participants thought negative about these materials and claim that preparing these materials need too much time and effort. In the last finding, "which type of material are preferred by pre-service science teachers in their future life" were asked and 57 % preferred 3 dimensional materials, 19 % preferred digital materials and 24 % preferred both.

The purpose of this study was to investigate doctoral dissertations on physics education conducted in Turkey between the years of 2010 and 2015. The year, institution, language, researcher's gender, advisor position, research design and method, number and properties of samples, subject, data collection tools and theme distribution of the doctoral studies were investigated. The document analysis technique, which is a qualitative research method, was used. The population for research was all doctoral dissertations in the field of physics education at various institutes in Turkey. The sampling group consisted of 78 dissertations accessed through the online National Thesis Centre. To collect data, a form of structure determination developed by the researcher was used. Data were analysed with categorical analysis techniques The findings indicated that the number of physics education doctoral dissertations has increased when compared with the number of dissertation made in the years 2001-2009. Most of these doctoral dissertations were conducted at Karadeniz Technical University and Middle East Technical University, with a mixed research method preferred by researchers. In general, high-school students and pre-service teachers were the sample for these dissertations. The theme of success and attitudes were the most frequent research topics used in dissertations on physics education.

The purpose of this study was to describe high school students' "physics", physics lesson" and "physics teacher" conceptions by using metaphors. 313 students participated in the study from different high school types in Siirt, Turkey. A metaphorical perception form constructed by researcher was individually conducted, digitally recorded and analyzed. Codes and conceptual categories were created. The results demonstrate that students describe physics and physics lesson by using content, function, affective and cognitive characteristics and physics teacher by using cognitive, affective, personality and physical characteristics. Although constructivist approaches are applied in Turkish physics education program, the results show that most of the high school students still think that physics is a complex and difficult subject. The other result of the study shows that students think that physics is a developing subject area but physics lesson is not developing course. About physics teachers students believe that they are very knowledgeable and intelligent people. Some recommendations are made for researchers and program developers.

Obviously, one of the most important elements of education is teacher. The effect of the teacher is very high and the importance of professional attitudes and self-efficacy levels of teachers are improving in each day. Nowadays, pedagogic training program is going on for the students that are graduated from the other faculties than education. At the end of this certificate program, these students are being teachers. This study aims to investigate the effects of pedagogic training program on students' professional attitudes and self efficacy levels. A weak experimental design is conducted for the study. Experimental design is known as one of the quantitative research methods. The population of the study are 1037 Siirt university pedagogical training program students. This program started in July 2014 and finished in January 2015. Professional Attitude Scale (PAS) and Teacher Self-Efficacy Scale (TSS) are used as pre-test at the beginning and post-test at the end of the study. PAS is developed by Çetin (2006) and includes 35 items and TSS is developed by Çapa, Çakiroglu and Sarikaya (2005) and includes 24 items. At the end of the study, there is no statistically significant difference between pre-test and post test scores on participants' professional attitudes scores and its subscales love, value and appropriateness. Additionally there is a statistically significant difference on participants self-efficacy scores and its to subscales student participant and teaching strategies.

Web based learning has found its place in educational methods with the development of internet and internet technologies. The materials, that used with web based learning environments, should have some properties like visualization, pedagogic acceptance and convenience for students level. The purpose of this study is to construct two web based science environments for 9th grade students with using two different educational methods: inquiry with 5E learning cycle and expository with expository texts. These web environments are named as Web Based Inquiry Learning Environment (WILE) and Web Based Expository Learning Environment (WELE). Both environments are prepared for "conservation of energy" subject in 9th grade physics lesson. In evaluation part of this study, WILE is tested in two classrooms with 27 students and WELE is tested with 15 students. Students wrote their opinions to WILE and WELE, then 4 students interviewed for WILE and 2 students for WELE. Interview results and general opinions of students, a physics teacher and two physics education experts are represented in evaluation part.

In the literature, new machine learning algorithms are dynamically produced in the field of artificial intelligence engineering and the algorithms are constantly updated with new parameter estimations. The performance of existing algorithms in various business areas is still an important topic of discussion. Also, machine learning algorithms are frequently used in long-term credit ratings, which is an crucially important sub-branch of finance. This study was conducted to determine which popular machine learning model performs better in credit scoring. Artificial Neural Network, Random Forest, Support Vector Machine and K Nearest Neighbor were used to determine the algorithm that is suitable for the structure, attribute content and distribution of the data, and the operating logic of the models. In the study, the long-term credit rating is the target variable and the remaining variables are the features, the prediction performances of these 4 algorithm, which are frequently used in previous studies such as credit rating, credit risk, fraud analysis were compared. After data preprocessing, a classification study was carried out using the features included in the model. The metrics used in the comparison are MSE, RMSE, MAE and accuracy. According to the metrics, RF algorithm showed the best performance in the credit scoring.

As individuals are likely to feel anxious in case of obscurities in distance education environments, it seems necessary to develop a data collection tool for anxiety in such environments. In this study, a scale was developed to reveal the anxiety levels of university students in distance education. Quantitative research method was used in the study. The study group consisted of 935 students in the first sample for exploratory factor analysis and 418 students in the second sample for confirmatory factor analysis including those who previously experienced distance education. After the validity and reliability were ensured in the study, the final version of the anxiety scale for distance education (ASDE) consisted of a total of 17 items and three dimensions. These dimensions were listed as readiness for the profession anxiety, social anxiety and privacy concern. Furthermore, to establish the concurrent validity, the Online Privacy Concern Scale and Anxiety subscale of Brief Symptom İnventory are administered to 219 and 197 students in the third and fourth samples as a criterion scale. The results of the analysis show that the ASDE is a reliable and valid measurement tool in determining the anxiety levels of university students in distance education. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study is aimed at first introducing a well-known discrepant event; inseparable phone books and second, turning it into an experiment for high school or middle school students. This discrepant event could be used especially to indicate how friction force can be effective in producing an unexpected result. Demonstration, discussion, explanation and experiment steps are presented on how to turn a simple discrepant event into an instructional activity. Results showed the relationships between number of pages and force, as well as between amounts of interleave and force. In addition to these, the mathematical equation for the total force between all interleaved pages is derived. As a conclusion, this study demonstrated that not only can phone books be used, but also ordinary books, to investigate this discrepant event. This experiment can be conducted as an example to show the agreement between theoretical and experimental results along with the confounding variables. This discrepant event can be used to create a cognitive conflict in students' minds about the concepts of "force and motion" and "friction force."

The aim of this study was to determine the effects of oxytocin and carazolol on uterine involution in postpartum Kıvırcık ewes. Thirty primiparous suckling Kıvırcık ewes were divided into 3 groups: carazolol, oxytocin, and control. The ewes underwent transcutaneous B-mode USG in the 1st week after birth, and the examinations continued via transrectal USG until the 28th day of postpartum (pp). The pulsatility index (PI), resistive index (RI), and systolic/diastolic (S/D) velocity ratio were recorded for uterine artery by Doppler USG. On postpartum 21st day, gravid horn diameter reduction was best achieved in the carazolol group. The PI values were found to be statistically significant (P-0.001) on days 14 and 21 pp. The mean RI values of uterine artery were statistically higher (P-0.01) in the oxytocin group. The highest RI value was detected on the 14th day of pp. The carazolol group had statistically higher (P-0.05) mean S/D values when compared to other groups. In conclusion, the most effective drug used to accelerate involution was found to be carazolol. The drugs used in this study appeared to have a contraction effect on the uterine arteries.
