2. Design of a web laboratory interface for ECG signal analysis using MATLAB builder NE

Abstract

An electrocardiogram (ECG) is a noninvasive test, determining any defect in the heart rate or rhythm or changes in the shape of the QRS complex is very significant to detect cardiac arrhythmia. In this study, novel web-ECG simulation tools were proposed using MATLAB Builder NE with WebFigure and ASP.NET platform. The proposed web-ECG simulation tools consisted of two components. First, involved the analyses of normal real ECG signals by calculating the P, Q, R, S, and T values and detecting heart rate, while the second part related to extracting the futures of several types of abnormality real ECG. For calculating the PQRST values, simple and new mathematical equations are proposed in the current study using MATLAB. The Web ECG is capable to plot normal ECG signals and five arrhythmia cases, so the users are able to calculate PQRST easily using the proposed simple method. ECG simulation tools have been tested for validity and educational contributions with 62 undergraduate and graduate students at the Al-Nahrain University-Biomedical Engineering Department, Iraq. The proposed ECG simulation tools have been designed for academic learning to be run easily by a student using only any web browsers without the need for installing MATLAB or any extra programs. The proposed tools could provide a laboratory course for ECG signal analysis using a few buttons, as well as increase and develop the educational skills of students and researchers.

4. Digital Pathology Image Reconstruction with Alternating Direction Method of Multipliers using Wavelet, Contourlet and Shearlet Transforms.

Abstract

Digital pathology refers to image-based environment in which acquisition, extraction and interpretation of pathology information is supported by computational techniques. It has a huge potential to facilitate the diagnostic process, however, big data size and necessity of large storage areas are challenging. Therefore, in this research, Compressed Sensing (CS) scheme is studied with digital pathology images in order to reduce the amount of data for reconstruction. CS requires the sparsity of signals for a successful recovery which means that different sparsifying bases can alter the final performance. Wavelet, Contourlet and Shearlet Transforms are investigated to sparsify the digital pathology images, it is seen that Contourlet Transform is superior. Alternating Direction Method of Multipliers (ADMM) is chosen for reconstruction since it is a robust and fast convex optimization method. Despite the fact that digital pathology images are less sparse than classical images, CS reconstruction is satisfactory, which emphasizes the potential of CS for digital pathology. This study can be pioneering in the field of CS with digital pathology so it can encourage further studies of CS based imaging with different type of microscopes or at different wavelengths. Abstract

Diabetes is a disease that affects more than 400 million people worldwide and currently lacks a cure. Monitoring blood sugar levels is crucial in minimizing the effects of this disease and protecting against its complications. Invasive and minimally invasive methods are commonly used traditional approaches for detecting and monitoring blood sugar levels. However, these methods bring along psychological and infectious risks. Currently, efforts are being made to develop a noninvasive method for determining blood sugar levels. Microwaves offer the possibility of non-invasive glucose measurement as they do not cause any harmful effects on human tissue. Furthermore, the complex permeability of blood is sensitive to glucose concentration in the microwave band. In literature, most of the studies are done with vector network analyzers (VNA) to detect blood sugar level noninvasively. In this study, an expensive and bulky VNA is replaced by an affordable microwave source and RMS power detector. The influence of the type and diameter of the test tube material used for non-invasive determination of sugar levels is examined with this setup. Additionally, the effect of the distance between the Vivaldi antennas used during measurements and the test tube is investigated. The results indicate that measurements performed using plastic test tubes yield better results compared to glass test tubes. Moreover, reducing the diameter of the test tube leads to improved outcomes. It has been observed that accurate results cannot be obtained if the antennas and the test tube are too close (<0.5 cm) or too far (>4.5cm) from each other. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

7. Simplified Convolutional Neural Network Model for Automatic Classification of Retinal Diseases from Optical Coherence Tomography Images.

Abstract

Optical coherence tomography (OCT) allows for direct and immediate imaging of the morphology of retinal tissue. It has become a crucial imaging modality for diagnosing eye problems in ophthalmology. One of the most significant morphological characteristics of the retina is the structure of the retinal layers, which provides important evidence for diagnostic purposes and is related to a variety of retinal diseases. In this paper, a convolutional neural network (CNN) model is proposed that can identify the difference between a normal retina and three common macular diseases: Diabetic macular edema (DME), Drusen, and Choroidal neovascularization (CNV). This proposed model was trained and tested on an open source dataset of OCT images also with professional disease classifications such as DME, CNV, Drusen, and Normal. The suggested model has achieved 98.3% overall classification accuracy, with only 7 wrong classifications out of 368 test samples. The suggested model significantly outperforms other models that made use of the identical dataset. The final results show that the suggested model is particularly adapted to the detection of retinal disorders in ophthalmology centers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Ayrıca, birden fazla grup ve/veya öğrencinin birbirinin sırasını almadan ya daçalışmasını bölmeden tek cihazla çalışmasını mümkün kılmak amacıyla bir kullanım senaryosuve bu kullanım senaryosunu destekleyen bir sıralama algoritması geliştirilmiş ve bu algoritmacihaz ve uygulama yazılımlarına dahil edilmiştir. Cihazla yapılan örnek deney sonuçları ve busonuçların teorik sonuçlarla karşılaştırması sunulmuştur., In this study, a device for free fall experiment has developed and implemented. A mobile Androidapplication is developed in order to control the device via Bluetooth connection and see results ofexperiments in terms of measured time values, squares of measured time values and their graphs.Furthermore, a method is developed and implemented on embedded software in order to make itpossible for more than one person groups to experiment using machine without interrupting eachother’s work or taking each other’s pre-defined turn. Experimental results and comparison withtheoretical calculations provided.

27. Optimal Model-ree Approach Based on MDL and CHL for Active Brain Identification in fMRI Data Analysis

Abstract

Background: Cluster analysis is a robust tool for exploring the underlining structures in data and grouping them with similar objects. In the researches of Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI), clustering approaches attempt to classify voxels depending on their time-course signals into a similar hemodynamic response over time. Objective: In this work, a novel unsupervised learning approach is proposed that relies on using Enhanced Neural Gas (ENG) algorithm in fMRI data for comparison with Neural Gas (NG) method, which has yet to be utilized for that aim. The ENG algorithm depends on the network structure of the NG and concentrates on an efficacious prototype-based clustering approach. Methods: The comparison outcomes on real auditory fMRI data show that ENG outperforms the NG and statistical parametric mapping (SPM) methods due to its insensitivity to the ordering of input data sequence, various initializations for selecting a set of neurons, and the existence of extreme values (outliers). The findings also prove its capability to discover the exact and real values of a cluster number effectively. Results: Four validation indices are applied to evaluate the performance of the proposed ENG method with fMRI and compare it with a clustering approach (NG algorithm) and model-based data analysis (SPM). These validation indices include the Jaccard Coefficient (JC), Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC), Minimum Description Length (MDL) value, and Minimum Square Error (MSE). Conclusion: The ENG technique can tackle all shortcomings of NG application with fMRI data, identify the active area of the human brain effectively, and determine the locations of the cluster center based on the MDL value during the process of network learning.

Abstract

Yapı-zemin etkileşim problemlerinin çözümünde zemin ortamı, alt sistem yaklaşımıyla ayrık bir sistem olarak gözönüne alınır. Altsistem yaklaşımının en önemli aşaması, temelzemin arakesitinde tanımlanan karmaşık dinamik rijitlik katsayılarının belirlenmesidir. Bu çalışmada yüzeysel ve gömülü temellerin dinamik empedanslarının sayısal değerleri geniş bir frekans aralığı için elde edilmiştir. Frekans bölgesinde gerçekleştirilen çözümde zemin altsistemi homojen, izotropik ve lineer elastik olarak tanımlanan sürekli ortamın hareket denkleminin kesin çözümünü esas alan sınır elemanlar yöntemiyle ayrıklaştırılmıştır. İleri düzey gerçekleştirilebilir uygulamalar yapabilmek ve yapı mühendislerine bu tip problemlerin çözümlerinde yeterli olanaklar sağlamak üzere ayrıntılı parametrik araştırma ve sistematik hesaplamalar çeşitli kontrol parametrelerine bağlı yürütülerek, titreşen temelzemin sisteminin dinamik davranışı olarak değerlendirilmiştir. Ayrıca, bütün titreşim modları için elde edilen boyutsuzlaştırılmış rijitlik ve sönüm katsayıları analitik çözüme dayanan literatür sonuçlarıyla karşılaştırılarak, önerilen modelin yeterliliği gösterilmiştir.

Abstract

Computational sweep analysis of nonlinear ODEs (ordinary differential equations) is of importance in engineering system analysis and design. Sweep analyses usually demand intense computational power according to the number of points and the number of system parameters. This paper presents an efficient parallel algorithm for the sweep analysis of nonlinear ODEs based on graphical processing unit acceleration. The developed method preserves the jump phenomenon characteristics intrinsic to nonlinear ODEs and reduces the effects of irregular computational load. Experiments were realized using Duffing equation by sweeping frequency, amplitude, and equation coefficients. Directly, data parallel implementation and proposed implementations are compared to show the efficiency of the proposed method. Doğrusalolmayan sistemlerin analizini frekans boyutunda gerçekleştiren Volterra Serileri yöntemi temel alınmıştır.Arayüz tasarımı için MATLAB Web Figure ile ASP.NET platformu kullanılmıştır. Böylece yönteminyaygınlaştırılmasını sağlayan, aynı anda birden fazla kullanıcının kullanabileceği, hem eğitimsel hem deakademik amaçlara uygun bir yapı ortaya konmuştur.

Tüm bu uygulamaalanlarında kablosuz algılayıcı düğümlerin uzaktan izlenmesi ve bulundukları ortamdan algıladıkları verilerinişlenmesi ihtiyacı ortaya çıkmaktadır. Sunulan çalışmada bu ihtiyacı karşılamak üzere kablosuz algılayıcı ağlarayönelik MATLAB WEB sunucu tabanlı uzaktan izleme sistemi tasarımı gerçekleştirilmiştir. Abstract

In this paper, a .Net based interface is designed for simlified new algorithm deveolped in 2007 for Volterra series method which is one of the most common methods using for nonlinear systems analysis (Peyton Jones, 2007). The algoritm is coded by MATLAB programme and adapted to .Net platform with MATLAB Builder NE. An example application is performed for the developed interface with a second order non-linear Duffing equation. In this application, results relating to first and second order frequency response functions are obtained, Bu çalışmada doğrusal olmayan sistemlerin analizinde kullanılan en yaygın yöntemlerden birisi olan Volterra serileri yöntemine yönelik 2007 yılında geliştirilen basitleştirilmiş yeni algoritma için .Net tabanlı bir arayüz tasarlanmıştır (Peyton Jones, 2007). Algoritma MATLAB programı ile kodlanmış ve MATLAB Builder NE ile .Net ortamına aktarılmıştır. Abstract

This paper reports on work to detect the static eccentricity faults for permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) using spectral analysis methods. Measurements are carried out by collecting the stator current and voltage, torque and speed for healthy and faulty cases of the motor. Static eccentricity case is formed by changing the rotor position in the manner of sliding the shaft on a horizontal axis. As a result of the spectral analysis for the motor currents, side band effects appeared at around the fundamental frequency are determined as a most important indicator of the eccentricity. In addition to this determination, the eccentricity problem is observed from the torque and rotor speed data comparing with each others as well as current and voltage variations.

Abstract

Bu çalışmada, harmonik denge denklemlerinin elde edilmesinde kullanılan genelleştirilmiş harmonik denge metodu açısal olarak kübik söndürücü ve kübik ve beşinci sertlik terimlerine bağımlı örnek bir geminin sallanma modeli üzerinde sunulmuştur. Denge denklemleri sadece rezonans cevabıyla ilgili olan açısal bir değerle çözülmüştür. Rezonans anındaki cevabın genliği ve rezonansın meydana geldiği andaki frekans değeri, geniş bir frekans bandı üzerindeki cevabı hesaplanmadan elde edilmiştir. Bu, giriş uyarımının seviyesindeki rezonans cevabının bağımlılığını araştırmada etkili bir araç ortaya koymuştur. Çok daha fazla zamana ihtiyaç gösteren simülasyon metotları (Euler, Runge-Kutta 3, Adams, Ode45 gibi) ile daha uyumlu sonuçlar vermektedir., In this study, generalized harmonic balance method for deriving the harmonic balance equations is illustrated using a ship roll model with angle dependent cubic damping, and cubic and quintic stiffness terms. The balance equations are then solved subject to a phase constraint which identifies the resonant solution only. The amplitude of the response at resonance, and the frequency at which resonance occurs, can therefore be obtained without needing to compute the response over a wide frequency range. This provides an efficient toll for investigating the dependence of the resonant response on the level of input excitation, with results which agree well with more time-consuming simulation methods

Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) are used in various fields such as military and medical applications, detection of natural disasters, building security systems and monitoring the field of automated activity in the factories. In these application fields, there are some requirements for the wireless sensor nodes to be monitored remotely and for their collected data to be processed. In the present study, in order to provide these requirements a web-based remote monitoring system is implemented using MATLAB WEB server developed for wireless sensor networks. The implemented system provides several features such as recording, displaying and analyzing collected data (temperature, moisture, pressure, light etc.) from sensorh nodes simultaneously by using the MATLAB program and the server's components. In addition, users can easily access the developed system using any device (computer, PDA, cell phone etc.) connected to the internet without the use of any means other than a web browser. 2008 yılında yayınlanan `Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System` adlı makale sayesinde bilgi sahibi olduğumuz Bitcoin, bilimsel litaratüre yeni terimler kazandırarak popülerliğini arttırmaktadır. Alternatif sanal para olarak geliştirilen Ethereum, merkezi bir sunucu veya bir kontrol noktaya ihtiyaç duymadan, karşılıklı uçlar arası anonim ve ucuz şekilde varlık transferine olanak sağlayan bir sistemdir. Blokzincir yapısının en yaygın kullanımı olan Bitcoin ve altcoinlerdir. Kripto paralar madencilik olarak adlandırılan ve zorlu bir algoritmanın çözümü ile gerçekleşmektedir. Sistemde yer alan herhangi bir madenci bu çözümü elde etmek için elinde bulunan ekran kartı ve işlemci gücünü kullanmaktadır. Bu çalışmada GPU'ların barındırdığı işlemcilerin, kayan noktalı işlem hesaplamalarında daha verimli olmaları sebebiyle Ethereum madenciliğinde kullanılan çeşitli ekran kartlarının performansları 4 kademeli bir iyileştirme paketi ile artırılarak karşılaştırılmıştır. Önerilen iyileştirme metotları için kullanılan ekran kartlarının model ve bellek miktarları şu şekildedir: 4 GB AMD R9 290, 4 GB AMD R9 380, 8 GB AMD R9 390, 4 GB AMD RX 560, 4 GB AMD RX 470, 4 GB AMD RX 480, 4 GB AMD RX 570, 4 GB AMD RX 580, 6 GB NVIDIA GTX1060, 8 GB NVIDIA GTX1070, 8 GB NVIDIA GTX1080. Bu çalışmanın en önemli amacı, Ethereum madenciliğine özgü Ethash özet algoritmasında iyileştirme yöntemleri uygulamaktır. Bu amaçla, AMD ve NVIDIA yonga seti grafik kartlarının daha düşük güç tüketimi ile daha hızlı algoritmalar çözmelerini sağlamak için iyileştirmeler yapılmıştır. Grafik kartları fabrika ayarlarıyla çalıştırıldığında, hiçbiri geçerli döviz kurlarından dolayı fayda getiremeyecek durumdadır. Algoritmanın hızını arttırmanın yanı sıra güç tüketimini azaltmak kar bölgesine geçiş için önemli bir faktör olmuştur. Yapılan çalışmalar sonucunda elde edilen değerlere bakıldığında yaklaşık % 30 performans artışı görülmüştür. Ayrıca iyileştirme paketi ile ekran kartlarının tükettiği elektrik enerjisi yüzde 20 ile yüzde 30 arası azaltılmıştır. Developed as an alternative cryptocurrency, Ethereum is a system that allows for anonymous and inexpensive asset transfer between the opposite ends without the need for a central server or a checkpoint. Bitcoin and alternative crypto coins are the most common use of blockchain structure. Crypto coins are realized by mining which is the solution of a challenging algorithm. Any miner in the system uses the graphics card and processor power in hand to obtain this solution. As the processors of the GPUs are more efficient in floating point calculations, the performances of the various graphics cards used in Ethereum mining will be focused on in this study. The model and memory quantities of the graphics cards used are as follows: 4 GB AMD R9 290, 4 GB AMD R9 380, 8 GB AMD R9 390, 4 GB AMD RX 560, 4 GB AMD RX 470, 4 GB AMD RX 480, 4 GB AMD RX 570, 4 GB AMD RX 580, 6 GB NVIDIA GTX1060, 8 GB NVIDIA GTX1070, 8 GB NVIDIA GTX1080. The most important aim of this study is to apply optimization methods in the Ethash summary algorithm which is specific for Ethereum mining. For this purpose, improvements have been made to enable AMD and NVIDIA chipset graphics cards to solve faster algorithms with lower power consumption. When the graphics cards were operated with the factory default settings, none of them could profit from the current exchange rates. Reducing the power consumption along with increasing the speed of the algorithm has been an important factor in the transition to the profit zone. As a result of the studies, a performance increase of 30% is observed. Also, the electrical energy consumed by the graphics cards used for Ethereum mining is reduced by 20 to 30 percent.Keywords: Ethereum, Blockchain, Cryptocurrency mining, GPU mining. 55
