Pool boiling is encountered in many industrialsectors varying from power plants to chemical reactors. Even though the bubbleformations as well as departures from the heating surface are known or can beestimated for the water, there are no detailed data on how bubbles form anddeparture if the working fluid is nanofluid, which is the colloidal suspensionthat has been widely used in recent times. There are lots of studiesillustrating that nanofluids can enhance heat transfer performance via theirenhanced thermophysical properties like density, specificity heat, thermalconductivity, and so forth. It is a well-known fact that the heating surfacehas also affected the process aforementioned. In this study, the effect ofcavities on both bubble formations and departures for alumina nanofluid (1.0%vol.) was studied. A set of numerical analyses was conducted for the distilledwater and alumina nanofluid, respectively. Vapor volume fractions and velocitydistributions were investigated around the heater area. As a geometer of the cavity,triangle and semicircle-shaped cavities were taken into account. The obtainedresults showed that bubble nucleation, and thereby bubble formations increasedwhen a cavitied surface was utilized. While the cavities caused the overallheating areas to increase, the departure of the bubbles from the surfaces tooka long time.&nbsp

In this research, wind energy potential of a specific region in Western Turkey has been analyzed by using WindPRO software. The analyzed site is located in Ayvacık district of Çanakkale province of Turkey. Two types of wind energy turbines with 3 MW power including Enercon E-101/3000 and Nordex N117/3000 have been selected for the analyses. Weibull distribution has been utilized in the wind energy potential assessment. Also, average wind speed values and prevailing wind directions have been calculated for the selected locations in the analyzed region. The prevailing wind direction was determined for Enercon E-101/3000 and Nordex N117/3000 turbines as NNW and SSE, respectively. Estimated electrical energy generation values for Enercon E-101/3000 and Nordex N117/3000 turbines were obtained between 10177-11925 MWh/year and 9283-10954 MWh/year, respectively. Moreover, shape and scale parameters for each wind directions and annual energy generation values of each location have been calculated within the scope of this work.

Sağlamış oldukları birçok fayda nedeniyle ısıl sistemlerde geleneksel iş akışkanları yerine nanoakışkan çözeltilerinin kullanımı son yılların en popüler konularından biri olmuştur. Bu deneysel çalışmada alüminyum nitrür (AlN) nanoparçacıkları içeren sulu nanoakışkan çözeltisi hazırlanmış ve farklı çalışma koşulları altında çalışan düz bir ısı borusunda test edilmiştir. Deneylerde kullanılan dairesel kesitli ısı borusu et kalınlığı 1 mm, iç çapı 13 mm ve uzunluğu 1000 mm olacak şekilde bakır malzemeden imal edilmiştir. Nanoparçacıkların sağlamış olduğu etkileri gözlemleyebilmek amacıyla deneyler önce saf su ardından nanoakışkan çözeltisi için gerçekleştirilmiştir. Yapılan deneylerde ısı boruları için performans göstergesi olan ısı borusunun ısıl direnci ve verimi karşılaştırmalı olarak ele alınmış, ısı borusu duvar sıcaklığındaki değişimler incelenmiştir. Deneyler sonucunda elde edilen veriler saf su yerine nanoakışkan kullanımıyla ısı borusu verimimin iyileştirilebileceğini ortaya koymuştur. Saf su yerine alüminyum nitrür nanoparçacıkları içeren nanoakışkanın iş akışkanı olarak kullanımıyla ısıl direnç ve verimdeki en yüksek artışlar sırasıyla %10,9 ve %45,6 olmuştur., Utilization of nanofluidic solutions instead of conventional working fluids in thermal systems has become one of the most popular topics in recent years due to the many benefits they provide. In this experimental study, an aqueous nanofluid solution containing aluminum nitride (AlN) nanoparticles was prepared and tested in a plain heat pipe under different operating conditions. The circular heat pipe used in the experiments was made of copper material with a wall thickness of 1 mm, an inner diameter of 13 mm and a length of 1000 mm. In order to observe the effects of nanoparticles, experiments were initially carried out for deionized water and then for nanofluid solution. In the experiments, the thermal resistance and efficiency of the heat pipe, both of which are the performance indicators for heat pipes, were comparatively studied, and the alterations in temperature of the heat pipe wall were monitored. The data obtained from the experiments revealed that the heat pipe efficiency can be improved by employing nanofluid instead of deionized water. With the use of nanofluid containing aluminum nitride nanoparticles instead of deionized water as the working fluid, the maximum enhancements in thermal resistance and efficiency were recorded as 10.9% and 45.6%, respectively.

Yüksek ısı akıları ile karakterize edilen, taşınımla ısı transferinin bir çeşidi olan kaynama ve yoğuşma birçok mühendislik uygulamasında yaygın olarak karşılaşılan ısı transferi mekanizmalarındandır. Genelde sıvılar, ısı transferi uygulamalarında ana ısı taşıyıcılarıdır ve bu nedenle bir ısıl sistemin performansı iş akışkanının termofiziksel özelliklerine önemli ölçüde bağlıdır. Nanoakışkanlar geliştirilmiş ısıl özellikleri nedeniyle ısı sistemlerinde iş akışkanı olarak kullanılmaya başlanmıştır. Bu tez çalışmasında hekzagonal bor nitrür ve silika nanoparçacıkları içeren diklorometan tabanlı nanoakışkanların havuz kaynama ve yoğuşma ısı transfer karakteristikleri deneysel ve sayısal olarak incelenmiştir. Nanoparçacık derişiminin ısı transfer özellikleri üzerindeki etkilerini belirlemek için üç farklı hacimsel derişimde (%0,5, %1,0 ve %1,5) nanoakışkan çözeltileri hazırlanmış ve farklı ısı akısı koşulları altında test edilmiştir. Deneyler başlangıçta temel akışkan diklorometan için yapılmış, ardından temel akışkan içerisine nanoparçacık ilave edilmesinin ısı transfer özellikleri üzerindeki etkilerini belirlemek amacıyla her bir nanoakışkan çözeltisi için gerçekleştirilmiştir. Kaynama eğrileri, ısı akısıyla basıncın değişimleri, hem kaynama hem de yoğuşma işlemleri için ısı transfer katsayıları elde edilmiş ve diklorometan ile hazırlanan her bir iş akışkanı için viskozite ölçümleri yapılmıştır. Deneylerden elde edilen sonuçlar ve sayısal analiz sonuçları birbirleriyle karşılaştırılmış ve temel akışkan içerisine nanoparçacık ilavesinin nanoparçacık tipi ve derişimine bakılmaksızın ısı transfer katsayılarında iyileşme sağladığı görülmüştür. Hekzagonal bor nitrür ve silika nanoparçacıkları içeren nanoakışkanlar ile yapılan deneylerde en büyük iyileştirme oranları kaynama ısı transferi katsayısı için sırasıyla %38,1 ve %26,1 olarak, yoğuşma ısı transferi katsayısı için ise sırasıyla %17,6 ve %28 olarak elde edilmiştir. Ayrıca hekzagonal bor nitrür-diklorometan nanoakışkanı ile karşılaştırıldığında silika-diklorometan nanoakışkanının viskozitesinin daha fazla arttığı gözlemlenmiştir. Boiling and condensation, which are characterized by high heat fluxes and are a form of heat transfer by convection, are among the heat transfer mechanisms commonly encountered in many engineering applications. Fluids, generally, are the main heat carriers in heat transfer applications and thereby performance of a thermal system is considerably associated with the working fluid's thermophysical properties. In thermal systems, nanofluids have been started to use as working fluid owing to their enhanced thermal properties. In this thesis, pool boiling & condensation heat transfer characteristics of hexagonal boron nitride and silica nanoparticles containing dichloromethane-based nanofluids were experimentally and numerically investigated. For determining the influences of nanoparticle concentration on heat transfer characteristics, nanofluid solutions at three different volumetric concentrations (0.5%, 1.0% and 1.5%) were prepared and tested under different heat flux conditions. Experiments were primarily carried out utilizing dichloromethane and then each nanofluid solution to specify the impacts of nanoparticle addition into the base fluid on heat transfer characteristics. Boiling curves, alterations in pressure with heat flux, heat transfer coefficients both for boiling and condensation processes were obtained and viscosity measurements were performed for dichloromethane and each working fluids prepared. The obtained findings from the experiments and numerical analysis were compared to each other and it was seen that nanoparticle addition into the base fluid provided improvement in heat transfer coefficients regardless of nanoparticle type and concentration. The maximum enhancements of 38.1% and 26.1% for the boiling heat transfer coefficient and 17.6% and 28% for the condensation heat transfer coefficient were attained during the experiments using hexagonal boron nitride and silica nanoparticles containing nanofluids, respectively.
