Among the III-V nitride alloys, InAlN has attracted great technological interest in recent years due to its wide band gap and lattice matching with GaN at 18% indium composition, with the application of better barrier for the next generation of high electron mobility transistors (HEMT). However, its crystal quality degrades with increasing thickness. With the help of numerical simulation using the empirical Stillinger-Weber potential, we have proposed a mechanism for the degradation of InAlN layers by phase segregation (InN cluster formation) based on stress relaxation due to the interaction between alloying elements (indium) and point defects. The most favorable cluster radius is of the order of 6 Å. The enlargement of the cluster size can also be explained by this stress relaxation mechanism. The same type of behavior in InGaN and AlGaN is also possible, but with less or no effect. These results are in agreement with the experimental observations., Parmi les alliages de nitrures III-V, l'InAlN a suscité un grand intérêt technologique ces dernières années en raison de sa large bande interdite et de sa concordance de réseau avec le GaN à une composition d'indium de 18%, avec comme application une meilleure barrière pour la prochaine génération de transistors à haute mobilité électronique (HEMT). Cependant, sa qualité cristalline se dégrade avec l'augmentation de l'épaisseur. A l’aide de la simulation numérique utilisant le potentiel empirique Stillinger-Weber, nous avons proposé un mécanisme de dégradation des couches InAlN par la ségrégation de phases (formation des clusters d’InN) basé sur la relaxation de contrainte due à l’interaction entre des éléments d’alliage (indium) et des défauts ponctuels. Le rayon de cluster le plus fovorable est de l’ordre de 6 Å. L’agrandissement de la taille de cluster peut être également expliqué par ce mécanisme de relaxation de contrainte. Le même type de comportement dans InGaN et AlGaN est aussi possible, mais avec un effet moins important voire nul. Ces résultats concordent avec les observations expérimentales.

In this work, the co-doping of CaF2:Nd3+ with different optically inactive buffer ions is investigated as a promising material for high energy laser applications. The main goal is to identify new neodymium doped compounds as potential substitutes for the Nd-doped phosphate glasses currently employed in the Laser Mégajoule (LMJ). A detailed optical spectroscopy investigation describes the effect of the different buffer ions on the neodymium spectroscopic properties.The buffer ions can be separated in two groups: buffer ions with a larger size than Nd lead to a single dominant Nd emitting site, while the smaller ions clearly exhibit two different types of Nd sites, that are evidenced in absorption and emission spectroscopy as well as and in the fluorescence dynamics. A multiple buffer ion co-doping, employing buffers from both groups in the same compound enable the engineering of the spectral bands. Four interesting compositions exhibiting a broad and flat profile around 1.05µm have been identified and represent promising laser crystals for the LMJ applications. The amplification properties of the different laser crystals have been investigated using a dedicated pump-probe setup with two tunable laser sources . The results confirm the broad band amplification features of the most promising crystals. The CW laser operation and tunability of these materials show remarkable results with laser slope efficiencies close to the theoretical limit and very low laser thresholds. The ytterbium co-doping of CaF_2:0.5%Nd is also investigated using Yb ions both as active ions and buffer ions and shows intresting features for broadband oscillators around 1µm.. Finally, a preliminary study on molecular adherence with CaF2 is realized with a pure CaF2 bonded with a CaF2:Nd,Lu, exploiting the pure CaF2 as a heat sink for optimal thermal management., Dans ce travail, le co-dopage de CaF2:Nd3+ avec différents ions tampons optiquement inactifs est étudié comme un matériau prometteur pour les applications laser à haute énergie. L'objectif principal est d'identifier de nouveaux composés dopés au néodyme comme substituts potentiels aux verres de phosphate dopés au Nd actuellement utilisés dans le Laser Mégajoule (LMJ). Une étude détaillée de la spectroscopie optique décrit l'effet des différents ions tampons sur les propriétés spectroscopiques du néodyme. présentent clairement deux types différents de sites Nd, qui sont mis en évidence dans la spectroscopie d'absorption et d'émission ainsi que dans la dynamique de fluorescence. Un co-dopage ionique à plusieurs tampons, utilisant des tampons des deux groupes dans le même composé, permet l'ingénierie des bandes spectrales. Quatre compositions intéressantes présentant un profil large et plat autour de 1,05 µm ont été identifiées et représentent des cristaux laser prometteurs pour les applications LMJ. Les propriétés d'amplification des différents cristaux laser ont été étudiées à l'aide d'une configuration pompe-sonde dédiée avec deux sources laser accordables. Les résultats confirment les caractéristiques d'amplification à large bande des cristaux les plus prometteurs. Le fonctionnement du laser CW et l'accordabilité de ces matériaux montrent des résultats remarquables avec des efficacités de pente laser proches de la limite théorique et des seuils laser très bas. Le co-dopage à l'ytterbium de CaF_2:0.5%Nd est également étudié en utilisant des ions Yb à la fois comme ions actifs et ions tampon et montre des caractéristiques intéressantes pour les oscillateurs à large bande autour de 1µm. Enfin, une étude préliminaire sur l'adhérence moléculaire avec CaF2 est réalisée avec un pur CaF2 lié à un CaF2:Nd,Lu, exploitant le CaF2 pur comme dissipateur thermique pour une gestion thermique optimale.

International audience; For years, piezometric times series recorded in boreholes located nearby the shore clearly highlight multifarious interactions between the aquifer and the shoreface. Beyond the usual signature of earth tide observed almost everywhere, measurements show that piezometric cycles and trends, as well as particular groundwater flows in the coastal aquifer, may be driven by oceanic tide, infragravity/wave spectra, shoreline edge wave or wind-/wave-driven setup. At a given station, the groundwater dissipation of the marine signal should be proportional (i) to the frequency of the source and (ii) to the distance between the station and the shoreline. Assuming that those two effects can be distinguished, a full spectral analysis of piezometric time series at the station would reveal the nature of the marine processes at the source of the recorded perturbations. Along the western French Mediterranean coast, a high-resolution hydro-geophysical observatory (several boreholes qualifying each layer of the Roussillon aquifer) was set up to quantify such interactions in terms of piezometric level and conductivity dynamics. We use data from this observatory to characterise how and how much coastal groundwaters are controlled by meteomarine forces. We define a set of prospective meteo-marine conditions (mainly wave, wind and water level) ranging from fair to extreme weather. Then, a non-hydrostatic Darcy solver with free water table is designed by our team to question this specific problem. After a model calibration with data from the observatory, we massively calculate marine-controlled water table and groundwater flow dynamics. From such a comprehensive dataset, we delineate numerical-derived relationships between marine forcings and coastal groundwater behaviours. This exploratory work highlights the fact that marine influence on coastal aquifers may have been underestimated and could result in severe consequences on coastal water resources under certain conditions, which are discussed.

Mixtures of active and passive particles are predicted to exhibit a variety of nonequilibrium phases. Here we report a dynamic clustering phase in mixtures of colloids and motile bacteria. We show that colloidal clustering results from a balance between bond breaking due to persistent active motion and bond stabilization due to torques that align active particle velocity tangentially to the passive particle surface. Furthermore, dynamic clustering spans a broad regime between diffusivity-based and motility-induced phase separation that subsumes typical bacterial motility parameters., 16 pages, 16 figures

Ships with iron hulls generate a disturbance in the earth’s magnetic field that can be detected. In order to avoid detection, the disturbance is measured and nullified with coils inside the boat. A flying drone equipped with a magnetic sensor does the measurement. The purpose of this thesis is to develop and study the sensor (fluxgate). First, we extensively studied the driving circuit of the sensor, then, we designed the signal processing circuit. Next, we developed a compact model of the sensitive element, which was used to simulate the sensor behaviour. This helped us to estimate if sizing of the sensor is correct. Finally, an applied study of the sensor was carried out. This study began with the development of a support that accommodates the magnetic core and its coils, followed by various experiments on the sensor itself., Les navires ayant une coque en fer génèrent une perturbation du champ terrestre qui peut être détectable. Afin d’éviter la détection, cette perturbation est caractérisée et compensée à l’aide de boucles magnétiques installées dans le navire. Ce procédé est fait par un drone volant comprenant un capteur magnétique (fluxgate). L’objet de la thèse est de faire l’étude et le développement de ce capteur. D’abord, le circuit d’excitation a été étudié, puis, nous avons mis au point le circuit de traitement de signal. Nous nous sommes ensuite concentrés sur la simulation du capteur qui a commencé par le développement d’un modèle compact de l’élément sensible. Ensuite, nous avons vérifié par la simulation si le dimensionnement effectué était correct ou non. Enfin, une étude pratique du capteur a été effectuée. Celle-ci a commencé par le développement d’un support permettant d’accueillir le noyau magnétique et ses différentes bobines suivi de diverses expérimentations sur le capteur complet.

This thesis work revolves around four main axes. The first consists on the modeling of the basic thermodynamic properties (magnetic and thermal) of magnetocaloric alloys with ferromagnetic transitions, the magnetic model is able to reliably account for their magnetocaloric characteristics. The purpose is to integrate this data into a refrigeration device optimization tool. The second axis concerns the detailed characterizations of the magnetic and calorimetric properties of different intermetallic alloys. The third axis presents a new method for analyzing data measured by the semi-adiabatic relaxation method, adapted to very marked first-order transitions. The fourth axis concerns the original physical effects associated to the first order ferromagnetic transition of the La(Fe,Si,Co)13 family, which is currently one of the most promising for applications in magnetocaloric systems., Ce travail de thèse s’est articulé autour de quatre axes principaux. Le premier consiste en une tentative de modélisation des propriétés thermodynamiques de base (magnétiques et thermiques) d’alliages magnétocaloriques à transitions ferromagnétiques, en vue de pouvoir rendre compte de leurs caractéristiques magnétocaloriques. L’idée est de disposer de données applicables dans un outil d’optimisation des dispositifs de réfrigération. Le deuxième axe porte sur des caractérisations détaillées des propriétés magnétiques et calorimétriques de différents alliages intermétalliques. Il s’agit de matériaux déjà connus mais dont certaines propriétés n’avaient pas encore été étudiées ou étaient en débat. Le troisième axe présente une nouvelle méthode d’analyse des mesures calorimétriques par relaxation semi-adiabatique, adaptée aux transitions à caractère premier ordre très marqué. Le quatrième axe porte sur des effets physiques originaux associés aux transitions ferromagnétiques de premier ordre de la famille des La(Fe,Si,Co)13, qui est aujourd’hui l’une des plus prometteuses en termes d’applications.

Direct Laser Writing (DLW) is a flexible and efficient technique to modify the optical properties of media. It allows for easily fabricating Photonics Integrated Circuits (PICs). However, the induced refractive index change is still small if compared to what is achieved in other techniques, such as lithography. This constitutes a limitation of such a technique, especially for the miniaturization of photonics circuits. Therefore, the achieving of higher index modification is a research axis that is currently being investigated. In 2017, a new type of index modification has been demonstrated in silver-containing glasses, namely Type A, which is based on the photoinduced clustering of the silver ions. The inscription of silver-sustained structures occurs in an athermal regime and shows dimensions overcoming the diffraction limit. Type A modifications have been exploited to fabricate waveguides, couplers, beam splitters and, more recently, a refractive index sensor. The work reported in this manuscript has a twofold goal. On the one hand, the achievement of high Type A refractive index change, on the other hand, the conception and fabrication of high-resolution Bragg gratings. The first objective was achieved by adopting a multiscan approach, which allows for strongly increasing the induced index change by increasing the number of consecutive laser passes. By exploiting the athermal regime of Type inscription, this work demonstrates remarkably high refractive index change up to 2x10^-2. Moreover, Type A multiscan waveguides show fine control of the confinement of the guided mode and reduced propagation losses. The second objective has led to the realization of Waveguides Bragg Gratings (WBGs) and transmission Volume Bragg Gratings (VBGs). Type A WBGs show first-order Bragg resonances in the VIS-NIR spectral range with coupling coefficients up to 2 orders of magnitude higher than what is reported in the literature. Finally, Type A multilayers VBGs show that high diffraction efficiency, up to 55%, is achieved for only 20 µm thick gratings. The results reported in this manuscript demonstrate that high refractive index change and strong first-order Bragg resonances in the VIS-NIR can be obtained with Type A modifications. Therefore, such promising results highlight the interest of Type A modifications for the conception of photonics circuits by DLW technique., Direct Laser Writing (DLW) est une technique flexible et efficace pour modifier les propriétés optique des matériaux. Elle permet de realiser facilement des circuits photoniques intégrés. Malheureusement, le changement d’indice de réfraction induit reste encore modeste par rapport à celui obtenu par d’autres techniques, telles que la lithographie. Cela constitue un frein a son déploiement, en particulier pour la miniaturisation des circuits photoniques. Par conséquent, l’augmentation de la variation d’indice de réfraction produite par le DLW est un axe d’étude actuel. En 2017, il a été démontré une nouveau type de modification d’indice dans des verres contenant argent, basé sur la formation photoinduite d’agrégats d'ions d’argent. Cette modification a été nommée type A. L’inscription de ces structures argentique a lieu dans un régime athermique, et présente des dimensions plus petites que la limite de diffraction. Les modifications de type A ont été utilisées jusqu’à présent pour fabriquer des guides d’ondes, des coupleurs, des séparateurs de faisceau et, plus récemment, un capteur d’indice de réfraction.Le travail rapporté dans ce manuscrit a un double objectif. D’une part, accroître l’indice de réfraction et d’autre part, de concevoir et fabriquer des de réseaux de Bragg périodiques avec une grande résolution, basées sur les modifications de type A.Le premier objectif est résolu par l’adoption d’une approche multi-passages qui permet d’augmenter fortement le contraste de l’indice des guides d’ondes inscrits par plusieurs balayages laser successifs. En exploitant le régime athermique de l’inscription de type A, ce travail a démontré un changement d’indice remarquablement élevé jusqu’à 2x10-2. Des guides d’ondes multi-passages ont été fabriqués dans ces verres montrant à la fois un contrôle du confinement du mode guidé et une réduction des pertes de propagation. Le deuxième objectif atteint concerne la réalisation de Waveguides Bragg Gratings (WBGs) et de Volume Bragg Gratings (VBGs) en transmission. Les WBGs de type A ont démontré des résonances de Bragg de premier ordre dans la gamme spectrale VIS-NIR avec des coefficients de couplage élevés, jusqu’à 2 ordres de grandeur plus élevés que ce qui est donné dans la littérature. Enfin, des VBGs multicouches de type A ont démontré que l’augmentation de l’efficacité de diffraction, jusqu’à 55 %, est obtenue pour des réseau de seulement 20 µm d’épaisseur.Les résultats reportés dans ce manuscrit démontrent qu’un changement d’indice très élevé est accessible avec des modifications de type A et permet d’obtenir de fortes résonances de Bragg de premier ordre dans la gamme VIS-NIR. Par conséquent, ces résultats prometteurs mettent en évidence tout l’interêt des modifications de type A pour la conception de circuit photonique par DLW.

The Newtonian gravity constant G plays a central role in gravitational theory. Researchers have, since at least the 1980s, tried to see if the Newton gravitational constant can be expressed or replaced with more fundamental units, such as the Planck units. However, it was already pointed out in 1987 that this led to a circular problem; namely, that one must know G to find the Planck units, and that it is therefore of little or no use to express G through the Planck units. This is a view repeated in the literature in recent years, and is held by the physics’ community. However, we will claim that the circular problem was solved a few years ago. In addition, when one expresses the mass from the Compton wavelength formula, this leads to the conclusion that the three universal constants of G, h, and c now can be replaced with only lp and c to predict observable gravitational phenomena. While there have been several review papers on the Newton gravitational constant, for example, about how to measure it, we have not found a single review paper on the composite view of the gravitational constant. This paper will review the history of, as well as recent progress in, the composite view of the gravitational constant. This should hopefully be a useful supplement in the ongoing research for understanding and discussion of Newton’s gravitational constant.

Alpha-synuclein is a protein of 140 amino acids, intrinsically disordered and found abundantly in the brain and whose toxic aggregation there is the hallmark of the Parkinson's disease.The aim of the thesis is to understand the effects of certain mutations on the dimerization of alpha-synuclein and to contribute to understand its involvement in Parkinson's disease by using coarse-grained molecular dynamics. Coarse-grained molecular dynamics trajectories were computed using the UNited-RESidue (UNRES) program and provided unprecedented sampling (over an effective time of the order of milliseconds) of the alpha-synuclein structures in monomeric and dimeric forms. These data were generated both for the wild-type protein but also for different types of mutants, related to the onset of an early form of the disease, or artificial and synthesized in order to understand the role of certain amino acids on the protein structure and aggregation. The study of this very large set of structures led us to build a program CUTABI, CUrvature and Torsion based Alpha helix and Beta sheet Identification) to detect secondary structures from coarse-grain models with a computational time of an order of magnitude smaller than the standard programs.From our molecular dynamics simulations, we identified two phases in the conformational set of monomers: a first phase composed of conformations without helices and a second phase composed of conformations with both helices and β-sheets. We also identified a particular region of the sequence forming a characteristic β-sheet hairpin. We demonstrated that this type of secondary structure element is much more present in the wild-type protein compared to all the toxic mutants studied.Study of the dimer conformations allowed us to identify two main regions of aggregation along the amino-acid sequence of alpha-synuclein and to demonstrate the existence of two main types of dimeric structures. The first type (minority of the conformations), named pre-fibrillar in this thesis, consists of structures with contacts between residues at the same positions along the amino-acid sequence in the monomers forming the dimer, similar to the contacts between the residues of the monomers of the fibrillar structures observed in vitro. This type of contacts only forms in a single region of the sequence for the wild-type protein against several regions of the sequence for certain mutants. Moreover, these fibrillar-type dimers are more abundant in toxic mutants. The second type (majority of the conformations), is made up of disordered structures with variable numbers of intra-molecular and inter-molecular contacts. In this last type of structures, we identified a subfamily of very aggregated dimers forming very long parallel β-sheets, also more abundant for the mutants studied than for the wild-type protein.All results obtained are discussed and compared with all the structural and mutagenesis experimental data available., L'alpha-synucléine est une protéine de 140 acides aminés, intrinsèquement désordonnée et retrouvée abondamment dans le cerveau et dont l'agrégation toxique dans le cerveau est un symptôme de la maladie de Parkinson.L’objectif de la thèse est de comprendre les effets de certaines mutations sur la dimérisation de l’alpha-synucléine et de contribuer à comprendre son implication dans la maladie de Parkinson grâce à l’utilisation de la dynamique moléculaire à gros grains. Des trajectoires de dynamique moléculaire à gros grains ont été calculées à l’aide du programme UNited-RESidue (UNRES) et ont permis d’obtenir un échantillonnage sans précédent (sur un temps effectif de l'ordre de la milliseconde) des structures de l'alpha-synucléine sous les formes monomérique et dimérique. Ces données ont été générées à la fois pour la protéine sauvage mais également pour différents types de mutants, liés à l'apparition d'une forme précoce de la maladie, ou artificiels et synthétisés afin de comprendre le rôle de certains acides aminés dans la structure et l'agrégation de la protéine. L’étude de ce très grand ensemble de structures nous a amené à construire un programme de détection des structures secondaires d'une protéine (CUTABI, CUrvature and Torsion based Alpha helix and Beta sheet Identification) applicable aux modèles à gros grains avec des temps de calculs d'un ordre de grandeur inférieur à l'application des programmes standards existants.A partir de nos simulations de dynamique moléculaire, nous avons identifié deux phases dans l'ensemble conformationnel des monomères: une première constituée de conformations ne contenant pas d’hélice et une seconde composée de conformations mélangeant hélices et feuillet-β. Nous avons également repéré la position des différentes structures secondaires le long de la séquence des acides aminés des alpha-synucléines et avons notamment mis en évidence un feuillet-β caractéristique appelé « hairpin » (épingle à cheveux en français). Nous avons démontré que ce type de structure secondaire est bien plus présent pour la protéine sauvage que dans tous les mutants toxiques étudiés.L'étude des conformations des dimères, nous a permis d'identifier deux régions principales d’agrégation le long de la séquence des acides aminés de l'alpha-synucléine et de démontrer l'existence de deux types principaux de structures dimériques. Le premier type, minoritaire, nommé pré-fibrillaire dans cette thèse, est constitué de contacts entre des résidus aux mêmes positions le long de la séquence dans les monomères formant le dimère, de manière semblable aux contacts entre les résidus des monomères des structures fibrillaires observées in vitro. Ce type de contacts ne se forme que dans une seule région de la séquence pour la protéine sauvage contre plusieurs régions de la séquence pour certains mutants. De plus ces dimères de type fibrillaire sont plus abondants chez les mutants toxiques. Le second type, majoritaire, est formé de structures désordonnées avec des nombres de contacts intra-moléculaires et inter-moléculaires variables. Dans ce dernier type de structures, nous avons également identifié une sous-famille de dimères très agrégés capables de former de très long feuillet-β parallèles, également plus abondants pour les mutants étudiés que pour la protéine sauvage.L'ensemble des analyses et des résultats obtenus sont discutés et comparés à l'ensemble des données structurales disponibles expérimentalement et aux données de mutagenèse.

The mechanisms involved in assisted atomization have been the subject of detailed analyses. Yet, the role of surfactants on these processes has rarely been addressed, so that the impact of surfactants on the evolution of the liquid jet and on the production of drops remains poorly understood. In order to better understand their role, the atomization of a liquid jet (water and surfactant) driven by a coaxial gas stream (air) is experimentally studied, over wide ranges of liquid and gas injection velocities. Three surfactants (SDS, C12TAB, C16TAB) with various properties have been selected: used at different concentrations, they allow to explore a very wide range of characteristic migration times to the interface, evolving from 10-3 to 1 second. Attempts to characterize their rheological properties are also proposed.The injector used consists of a liquid tube of 5 mm diameter, and a coaxial gas tube with a 5 mm section. A decontamination procedure of the liquid circuit after surfactant injection has been implemented, ensuring the reproducibility of the measurements.We first characterized by image analysis the structure of the liquid jet before its breakup, as well as the frequencies of the instabilities leading to the droplet formation.Both SDS and C12TAB candidates significantly increase the breakup length of the liquid jet. These molecules exhibit adsorption dynamics faster than the characteristic times of liquid structure formation, allowing to significantly lowering the surface tension at the tip of the liquid jet prior to its breakup. Conversely, the surfactant with slow adsorption dynamics (C16TAB) does not change the structure of the liquid jet. A model for the breakup length, based on the dynamic surface tension, shows good agreement with the measurements.C12TAB induces additional effects: the reduction of the oscillation amplitude of the jet (up to 40%), and of its breakup frequency (up to 50%). Finally, addition of SDS and C12TAB leads to changes in the mode of liquid jet breakup at low gas injection velocities: from a dominant fiber/ligament type jet breakup, a majority of breakups with membrane formation is observed due to the reduction of the surface tension.Finally, the frequencies of shear and flapping instabilities of the liquid jet are not affected by surfactants, as these mechanisms do not depend on the surface tension.The characteristics of the droplets resulting from liquid jet assisted atomization were studied using three techniques: laser diffraction particle size analysis, fast imaging and Doppler optical probe. The Doppler optical probe is a new sensor: its use on sprays required developments and optimizations of the signal processing routines. This sensor have then been tested by comparing the integral of radial liquid flow profiles to the injected flow rate: the observed deviations are less than 20, demonstrating the reliability of the instrument.Finally, the spray was characterized in the presence of surfactants. Laser diffraction, which allows to measure a distribution of droplet sizes on a spray diameter. The latter remains constant beyond twice the average breakup length of the liquid jet, with or without surfactant. Then the volume size distributions show that surfactants having an impact on the structure of the liquid jet also induce a higher presence of small drops than with pure water. Finally, the optical Doppler probe is used to measure sizes, velocities and fluxes of drops at the center of the spray.We thereby demonstrate that the parameter governing the influence of a surfactant on the atomization process is the adsorption time, which depends on the nature of the surfactant and its concentration. If this time is low compared to the typical break-up times of the liquid jet, its structure is affected, as well as the downstream spray resulting from its atomisation., Si les mécanismes intervenant en d’atomisation assistée ont fait l’objet d’analyses détaillées, le rôle de surfactants sur ces processus n’a été que rarement abordé, de sorte que l’impact de tensioactifs sur l’évolution du jet liquide et sur la production de gouttes reste très mal compris. Dans le but de mieux appréhender leur rôle, l’atomisation d’un jet liquide (eau) dopé et entraîné par un courant gaz (air) coaxial est étudiée expérimentalement, sur de larges plages de vitesses d’injection liquide et gaz. Trois tensioactifs (SDS, C12TAB, C16TAB) aux propriétés variées ont été sélectionnés : utilisés à différentes concentrations, ils permettent d’explorer des temps caractéristiques de repeuplement de l’interface évoluant sur une très large plage, allant de 10-3 à 1 seconde. Des tentatives pour caractériser leurs propriétés rhéologiques sont également proposées.L’injecteur utilisé est constitué d’un tube liquide et d’un tube gaz coaxial, tous deux d’une section de 5 mm. Un protocole de dépollution du circuit liquide après injection de tensioactifs a été mis en place, assurant la reproductibilité des mesures.Dans un premier temps, nous avons caractérisé par analyse d’image la structure du jet liquide avant sa rupture, ainsi que les fréquences des instabilités intervenant dans la formation des gouttes. Tout d’abord, les candidats SDS et C12TAB augmentent significativement la distance de brisure du jet liquide. Ces molécules présentent des dynamiques d’adsorption plus rapides que les temps caractéristiques de formation des structures liquides, ce qui permet un abaissement significatif de la tension de surface à l’extrémité du jet avant sa brisure. Dans le cas contraire, le tensioactif à dynamique d’adsorption lente (C16TAB) ne modifie pas la structure du jet liquide. Un modèle pour la longueur de brisure, basé sur la tension de surface dynamique, montre un bon accord avec les mesures. Le C12TAB induit des effets supplémentaires : la réduction de l’amplitude d’oscillation du jet (jusqu’à 40%), et de sa fréquence de brisure (jusqu’à 50%).Enfin, le dopage avec SDS et C12TAB conduit à des changements du mode de brisure du jet liquide aux faibles vitesses d’injection gaz: d’une rupture de type fibre/ligament, une majorité de brisures avec formation de membranes est observée due à la réduction de la tension de surface.Les fréquences des instabilités de cisaillement et de battement du jet liquide ne sont affectées par aucun tensioactif car ces mécanismes ne dépendent pas de la tension de surface. Les caractéristiques des gouttes résultant de l’atomisation du jet liquide ont été étudiées à l’aide de trois techniques : la granulométrie par diffraction laser, l’imagerie et la sonde optique Doppler. La sonde optique Doppler est une technique nouvelle, et a donc nécessité des développements et des optimisations des procédures de traitement du signal. Puis ce capteur a été testé en comparant l’intégrale de profils de flux liquide au débit injecté : les écarts observés sont inférieurs à 20%, démontrant la fiabilité de l’instrument.Enfin, le spray a été caractérisé en présence de tensioactifs. La diffraction laser, – qui mesure une distribution de tailles volumiques de gouttes sur un diamètre de spray -, est utilisée pour quantifier l’évolution de la taille des gouttes avec la distance axiale à l’injecteur, pour différentes vitesses gaz. Puis les distributions de tailles volumiques montrent que les tensioactifs ayant un impact sur la structure du jet induisent également une plus forte présence de gouttes de faibles tailles qu'en eau pure. Finalement, tailles, vitesses et flux de gouttes sont mesurés par sonde optique.Nous montrons ainsi que le paramètre gouvernant l’influence d’un tensioactif sur l’atomisation est le temps d’adsorption, qui dépend de la nature du tensioactif et de sa concentration. Si ce temps est faible devant les temps de rupture du jet liquide, sa structure est impactée, ainsi que le spray résultant de son atomisation.

S. S. Kistler discovered a new class of ultralight materials with remarkable properties in 1931: the aerogels. Since then, a wide range of composition has been studied to obtain unique properties such as lightweight or electrical conductivity.This research work focuses on new aerogels made from silver nanowires and polymers. The synthesis principle used in this work is based on the assembly of one-dimensional nanowires to form a three-dimensional (3D) network. The organization in space of the solid elements of the aerogel is due to the freeze-drying process.The morphological, electrical and mechanical properties of these aerogels are characterized to provide a better understanding of the relationship between synthesis parameters and final properties.The unique structures obtained present a very high porosity (higher than 98 %), a very low density (a few mg.cm-3) as well as a high electrical conductivity (hundreds of S.m-1) for a high mechanical strength (higher than ten of kPa) in spite of the high porosity.The applicative interest of these materials is explored. On the one hand, electromechanical characterizations of aerogels are studied in order to develop a piezoresistive sensor (electrical resistance variations of 20 % for deformations of 50 % are maintained over a hundred cycles). On the other hand, electrochemical characterizations are carried out in order to use the synthesized aerogels as anodes of lithium metal batteries. A first demonstration as an electrode has been performed in view of a future integration in solid-state batteries., S. S. Depuis, une large gamme de composition a été étudiée afin d'obtenir des propriétés uniques comme la légèreté ou la conductivité électrique.Ces travaux de recherche se concentrent sur de nouveaux aérogels fabriqués à partir de nanofils d'argent et de polymères. Le principe de synthèse utilisée dans ces travaux est basé sur l'assemblage de nanofils unidimensionnels pour constituer un réseau tridimensionnel (3D). L'organisation dans l'espace des éléments solides de l'aérogel est due au procédé de cryodessiccation.Les propriétés morphologiques, électriques et mécaniques de ces aérogels sont caractérisées afin d'apporter une meilleure compréhension de la relation entre paramètres de synthèse et propriétés finales.Les structures uniques obtenues présentent une très grande porosité (supérieure à 98 %), une très faibles densités (quelques mg.cm-3) ainsi qu'une conductivité électrique élevée (des centaines de S.m-1) pour une résistance mécanique élevée (supérieure à la dizaine de kPa) malgré la haute porosité.L’intérêt applicatif de ces matériaux est exploré. D'une part, les caractérisations électromécaniques des aérogels sont étudiées en vue d’élaborer un capteur piézorésistif (des variations de résistance électrique de 20 % pour des déformations de 50 % sont maintenues sur cent cycles). D'autre part, des caractérisations électrochimiques sont effectuées afin d'utiliser les aérogels synthétisés en tant qu'anodes de batteries lithium métal. Une première démonstration en tant qu'électrode a été réalisée en vue d'une intégration future en batterie tout solide.

In contrast to classical NMR techniques, internal field (IF) NMR, also called ferromagnetic NMR (FNR) requires no applied constant external magnetic field as the internal field present in ferromagnetic compounds suffices to polarize the nuclear spins. It allows to simultaneously study the crystalline structure, the local Co environment and the magnetic structure of cobalt containing materials. As a result, it can be applied to characterize all different kinds of Co containing materials, which are important materials in many applications of the modern society. In this work, the initial goal was to assess the potential of IF NMR to study cobalt in battery materials but, as a preliminary, a large variety of structures has been studied to assess clearly the potential of the method.The first system of interest was Co-C composites produced by ball milling under a hydrogen for carbon hydrogasification (CHG) was studied. Amongst others, 59Co IF NMR allowed to analyze the evolution of the different Co-C intermediates (Co/C solid solution & Co3C) present inside the sample throughout the CHG reaction. A direct relationship between the total amount of Co-C intermediates and the CHG reaction rate was found, meaning that the formation of the Co-C bond is the rate determining step.The second system was a structure made of parallel Co nanowires. Besides the determination of the crystalline structure, a novelty of this work is the determination of the magnetic domain-wall structure inside the wire by variation of the orientation between the NMR excitation field and the wire axis. The 59Co IF NMR analysis proved that it is not only the wire geometry and its crystalline phase that are responsible for the magnetic structure of the wire, but also the crystallite size and quality.Finally, model assemblies of Co nanoparticles were studied. IF NMR provided a sample-wide overview of the particle crystalline structures inside the sample. In addition, the superparamagnetic – ferromagnetic transition at the so-called blocking-temperature allows to determine the particle size. During the analysis of cobalt nanoparticles inside conversion reaction battery materials, it has been observed in some cases that small sized nanoparticles exhibit a ferromagnetic signal above their theoretical blocking temperature, which might be explained by particle interactions. During the study of close-packed model assemblies of Co nanoparticles no increase of Tb was observed, highlighting the difference between the effect of weak and strong particle interactions., Contrairement aux techniques classiques de RMN, la RMN du champ interne (IF), également appelée RMN ferromagnétique (FNR), ne nécessite pas l'application d'un champ magnétique externe constant, car le champ interne présent dans les composés ferromagnétiques suffit à polariser les spins nucléaires. Elle permet d'étudier simultanément la structure cristalline, l'environnement local du cobalt et la structure magnétique des matériaux contenant du cobalt. Par conséquent, elle peut être appliquée pour caractériser tous les différents types de matériaux contenant du Co, qui sont des matériaux importants dans de nombreuses applications de la société moderne. Dans ce travail, nous avons étudié une grande variété de structures, avec le but ultime d'évaluer le potentiel de la RMN IF pour étudier le cobalt dans les matériaux de batterie.Le premier système d'intérêt étaient des composites Co-C produits par mécanochimie pour l'hydrogénation du carbone (CHG). La RMN 59Co IF a notamment permis d'analyser l'évolution des différents intermédiaires Co-C (solution solide Co/C & Co3C) présents à l'intérieur de l'échantillon tout au long de la réaction CHG. Une relation directe entre la quantité totale d'intermédiaires Co-C et la vitesse de la réaction CHG a été trouvée, ce qui signifie que la formation de la liaison Co-C est l'étape déterminant la vitesse.Le second système était une structure constituée de nanobâtons de Co parallèles. Outre la détermination de la structure cristalline, une nouveauté de ce travail est la détermination de la structure de la paroi du domaine magnétique à l'intérieur du fil par la variation de l'orientation entre le champ d'excitation RMN et l'axe du fil. L'analyse RMN IF du 59Co a prouvé que ce n'est pas seulement la géométrie du bâton et sa phase cristalline qui sont responsables de la structure magnétique, mais aussi la taille et la qualité des cristallites.Enfin, des assemblages modèles de nanoparticules de Co ont été étudiés. La RMN IF a fourni une vue d'ensemble des structures cristallines des particules à l'intérieur de l'échantillon. En outre, la transition superparamagnétique - ferromagnétique à la température dite de blocage (Tb) permet de déterminer la taille des particules. Au cours de l'analyse des nanoparticules de cobalt dans les matériaux de batteries à réaction de conversion, il a été observé dans certains cas que les nanoparticules de petite taille présentent un signal ferromagnétique au-dessus de leur Tb théorique, ce qui pourrait être expliqué par des interactions entre les particules. Lors de l'étude d'assemblages modèles compacts de nanoparticules de Co, aucune augmentation de la Tb n'a été observée, ce qui met en évidence la différence entre l'effet des interactions faibles et fortes entre les particules.

The first part of the thesis concerns an investigation on the chemical reactivity of molecular populationsconfined inside a nanofluidic Fabry-Pérot cavity. Due to strong light-matter interactions developing betweena resonant electromagnetic cavity mode and the electric dipole moment of the confined molecules, a collectivePolariton excitation is formed. The former gets dressed by environmental vibrational and rotational degreesof freedom of the solvent. We call the resulting Polariton dressed by its cloud of environmental excitationa “Reacton”, since it further undergoes chemical reactions. We characterize how the Reacton formationmodifies the kinetics of a photoisomerization chemical reaction involving an elementary charge-transfer pro-cess. We show that the reaction driving force and reorganization energy are both modulated optically bythe reactant concentration, the vacuum Rabi splitting, and the detuning between the Fabry-Pérot cavityfrequency and targeted electronic transition. Finally, by computing the ultrafast picosecond dynamics of thewhole photochemical reaction, we predict that, despite optical cavity losses and solvent-mediated nonradia-tive relaxation, measurable signatures of the reacton formation can be found in state-of-the-art pump-probeexperiments.The second part focuses on the chiral discrimination in Fabry-Pérot cavities. A Fabry-Pérot interferometerfilled with chiral molecules has a well defined Differential Circular Transmission (DCT) signal under normalillumination of circularly polarized light. Based on this figure of merit, we firstly provide analytical andnumerical evidence that traditional Fabry-Pérot interferometers cannot enhance the chiroptical response ofmolecules, because the mirrors perfectly convert the circular polarization of light rays. We hence proposeand model an helicity-preserving cavity, with chiral mirrors, satisfying time-reversal symmetry. The emptycavity, made by the modelled chiral mirrors, generates a spectral helicity-preserving region which is notavailable with a traditional interferometer. The region breaks, in a small frequency range, the perfectinternal conversion of polarized light and thus it enables to discriminate the otherwise achiral cavity lightmodes. Polaritons which are generated at resonance with the preserving region thus inheritates a partialchiral character. By subtracting the helicity-preserving cavity contribution to the total DCT, we show thatour proposed setup is up to two orders of magnitude more sensitive with respect to the chiroptical responseof the isolated molecules. We reveal that the registered enhancement is consistent even for an extremelyweak molecular chiroptical responses, and that our setup can enhance the chiral signal of molecules either inthe weak or in the strong coupling (Polaritonic) regime., La première partie de la thèse concerne l’étude de la réactivité chimique d’une population de moléculesconfinées à l’intérieur d’une cavité Fabry-Pérot nanofluidique. En raison de l’interaction forte lumière-matièrequi se développe entre un mode résonant de la cavité et le moment dipolaire électrique des molécules confinées,une excitation collective de type « Polariton » est formée. Nous montrons que le Polariton est habillé par unnuage d’excitation environnemental dû aux degrés de liberté vibrationnels et rotationnels du solvant. Nousappelons l’excitation résultante un “Réacton”, car ce dernier est susceptible de réagir chimiquement. Nouscaractérisons la modification de cinétique d’une réaction chimique de type photoisomérisation impliquant unprocessus élémentaire de transfert de charge dû à la formation du Reacton. Nous montrons que l’enthalpie deréaction et l’énergie de réorganisation sont modulées optiquement par la concentration du réactif, le vacuumRabi splitting, et l’écart entre la fréquence optique de la cavité Fabry-Pérot et la transition électronique ciblée.Enfin, nous calculons la dynamique pico-seconde de cette réaction de transfert de charge, et prédisons que,malgré les pertes de la cavité optique et les pertes non-radiatives dues au solvant, une signature mesurablepar expérience pompe-sonde de la formation du Réacton peut être trouvée.La deuxième partie est consacrée à l’étude des propriétés optiques de cavités Fabry-Pérot chirales. Uninterféromètre Fabry-Pérot rempli de molécules chirales présente un signal de dichroisme circulaire en trans-mission (DCT) bien défini sous illumination normale par une lumière polarisée circulairement. Nous car-actérisons cette figure de mérite théoriquement et fournissons une preuve analytique et numérique que lesinterféromètres Fabry-Pérot traditionnels ne peuvent pas améliorer la réponse chiroptique des molécules, dufait de la conversion de polarisation à chaque réflexion de la lumière sur les miroirs de la cavité. Nous pro-posons donc de remplacer les miroirs par des métamatériaux diélectriques symétriques par renversement dutemps. Cette cavité génère une fenêtre de fréquences pour laquelle l’hélicité des rayons réfléchis est conservée,réalisant de fait une discrimination chirale des modes optiques de la cavité. Les Polaritons générés héritentau voisinage de cette région d’un caractère chiral. Nous montrons que ce dispositif permet de réaliser unemesure de DCT relative jusqu’à deux ordres de grandeur plus sensible que celle obtenue avec une cavité tra-ditionnelle, et peut être utilisé comme dispositif innovant et alternatif pour améliorer le sensing de moléculeschirales en cavité.

Les couleurs nous entourent et sont indispensables à notre existence. Elles peuvent tirer leur origine et leurs propriétés de mécanismes très différents : le pigment de peinture a physiquement peu de points communs avec les processus à l’œuvre dans la formation d’un arc en ciel. Pour mieux comprendre ces différents aspects, nous reviendrons sur ce qu’est la lumière ainsi que les différentes sources de lumières désormais disponibles. Nous évoquerons également les couleurs « invisibles » pour l’œil mais qui sont néanmoins exploitées dans de nombreuses applications modernes.

The ultimate goal of this work is the elaboration and characterization of new materials used to realize nanopads for molecular electronics. These nanopads must meet strict criteria to stabilize, without deformation and with atomic precision, the molecule on the nanopad-surface-nanopad junction. By combining non-contact atomic force microscopy (nc-AFM) and Kelvin probe microscopy (KPFM) in ultra high vacuum environment (UHV), we directly measure the height and work function of graphene monolayer on the Si-face of 6H-SiC(0001) with a precision that allows us to differentiate three different graphene structures : Zero layer graphene (ZLG), Quasi free-standing monolayer graphene (QFMLG) and Bilayer graphene (BLG). Unlike any other available technique, the local nc-AFM/KPFM dual probe makes it possible to directly identify the nature of nanometer-sized graphene islands that constitute the early nuclei of graphene monolayer grown on 6H-SiC(0001) by chemical vapour deposition. In the second part of this thesis we explored the growth of silicon nanopads by molecular beam epitaxy. We have shown that the growth of silicon on graphene is not two-dimensional and leads to the formation of 3D clusters with fractal branches. Finally, we epitaxially deposited gold nanoislands on an AlN(0001) thin film. This system is very promising and meets many of the criteria required for single molecule devices. The gold islands are mono-atomic and can be electrically charged with the AFM tip. It remains then to synthesize graphene nano-ribbons (GNRs) on this surface to prepare the conductance measurement., L'objectif ultime de ce travail est l'élaboration puis la caractérisation de nouveaux matériaux utilisés pour réaliser des nanopads destinés à l'électronique moléculaire. Ces nanopads doivent répondre à des critères stricts pour stabiliser, sans déformation et avec une précision atomique, la molécule dans la jonction nanopad-surface-nanopad. En combinant la microscopie à force atomique sans contact (nc-AFM) et la microscopie à sonde Kelvin (KPFM) dans un environnement ultravide (UHV), nous avons mesuré la hauteur et le travail de sortie d’une monocouche de graphène sur la face Si du 6H-SiC (0001). Ces mesures nous ont permis d’identifier trois structures de graphène : La ZLG (couche tampon), la QFMLG et la BLG. Contrairement aux autres méthodes de spectroscopie, le nc-AFM couplé à une sonde KPFM nous a permis ensuite d'identifier directement des nano-îlots de graphène aux premiers stades de nucléation, élaborée par dépôt chimique en phase vapeur (CVD). Le système graphène/SiC/graphène est prometteur pour la réalisation des jonctions en géométrie planaire. Dans la deuxième partie de cette thèse nous avons exploré la croissance de nanopads en silicène dans une chambre d’épitaxie par jets moléculaires (EJM). Nous avons démontré que la croissance du silicium sur graphène n'est pas bidimensionnelle et conduit à la formation des amas 3D ayant des branches fractales. Enfin, nous avons déposé par EJM des nano-îlots d'or sur un film mince d'AlN. Ce système est très prometteur et répond à un grand nombre de critères pour réaliser un dispositif à une seule molécule. Les nano-îlots d'or sont d'épaisseur monoatomique et peuvent être chargés électriquement avec la pointe AFM de manière contrôlée. Il reste alors, à titre de perspective, à synthétiser des nano-rubans moléculaires de graphène sur cette surface pour préparer la mesure de leur conductance à plat.

We consider the robust inverse geometric optimization of arbitrary population transfers and single-qubit gates in a two-level system.Robustness with respect to pulse inhomogeneities is demonstrated.We show that for time or energy optimization, the pulse amplitude is constant, and we provide the analytic form of the detuning as Jacobi elliptic cosine.We deal with the task of robust complete population transfer on a 3-level quantum system in lambda configuration.First, we use the Lewis-Riesenfeld method to derive a family of solutions leading to an exact transfer.Among this family, we identify a tracking solution with a single parameter to control simultaneously the fidelity of the transfer, the population of the excited state, and robustness.The ultrahigh-fidelity robustness of the shaped pulses is found superior to that of Gaussian and adiabatically-optimized pulses for moderate pulse areas.Second, we apply robust inverse optimization now to generate a stimulated Raman exact passage (STIREP)considering the loss of the upper state as a characterization parameter.Control fields temporal shapes, robust against pulse inhomogeneities, that are optimal with respect to pulse area, energy, and duration, are found to form a simple sequence with a combination of intuitively (near the beginning and the end) and counter-intuitively ordered pulse pairs.Alternative robust optimal solutions featuring lower losses, larger pulse areas, and fully counter-intuitive pulse sequences are derived., Nous considérons l'optimisation géométrique inverse robuste de transferts de population arbitraires et de portes à un seul qubit dans un système à deux niveaux.La robustesse vis-à-vis des inhomogénéités d'impulsion est démontrée.Nous montrons que pour l'optimisation du temps ou de l'énergie, l'amplitude de l'impulsion est constante, et nous fournissons la forme analytique du désaccord en fréquence comme cosinus elliptique de Jacobi.Nous traitons la tâche de transfert complet et robuste de population sur un système quantique à 3 niveaux en configuration lambda.Tout d'abord, nous utilisons la méthode de Lewis-Riesenfeld pour dériver une famille de solutions conduisant à un transfert exact.Parmi cette famille, nous identifions une solution de suivi avec un seul paramètre pour contrôler simultanément la fidélité du transfert, la population de l'état excité, et la robustesse.La robustesse de l'ultra-haute fidélité des impulsions formées s'avère supérieure à celle des impulsions gaussiennes et des impulsions optimisées adiabatiquement pour des aires d'impulsion modérées.Deuxièmement, nous appliquons une optimisation inverse robuste pour générer un passage exact Raman stimulé (STIREP) en considérant la perte de l'état supérieur comme un paramètre de caractérisation.Les formes temporelles des champs de contrôle, robustes vis-à-vis des inhomogénéités d'impulsion, qui sont optimales par rapport à l'aire d'impulsion, l'énergie et la durée, forment une séquence simple avec une combinaison de paires d'impulsions intuitive (près du début et de la fin) et contre-intuitive (au centre).D'autres solutions optimales robustes présentant des pertes plus faibles, des aires d'impulsion plus grandes et des séquences d'impulsion totalement contre-intuitives sont dérivées.

The SoLid experiment (Search for Oscillations with a Lithium-6 detector) aims to measure the anti-neutrino flux near a research reactor (BR2, SCK-CEN, Belgium). The first objective is to probe the "reactor" anomaly and to test the hypothesis of the existence of "light" sterile neutrino(s) (Delta m2~1eV2). Secondly, the measurement of the energy spectrum of neutrinos induced by the fission of uranium 235 will offer new constraints and will allow to probe the "gallium" anomaly. The 1.6 ton detector, segmented into 12800 detection cubes of 5x5x5 cm3, is based on a new technology using two scintillators (PVT and ZnS) read by MPPCs. After a contextualization of the physical motivations that led to the search for a new neutrino flavor and a detailed description of the detector, this manuscript describes the data quality of the SoLid phase 1 corresponding to 287 days of reactor-ON. The selections of different backgrounds to characterize the detector response will then be presented. The next part describes the statistical methods used to constrain the parameter space of oscillation to a sterile neutrino in the framework of very short baseline experiments. Finally, the last part presents a first preliminary oscillation analysis from the phase 1 data using a Bayesian method., L'expérience SoLid (Search for Oscillations with a Lithium-6 detector) a pour but de mesurer le flux d'anti-neutrino à proximité d'un réacteur de recherche (BR2, SCK-CEN, Belgique). Le premier objectif est de sonder l'anomalie "réacteur" et de tester l'hypothèse de l'existence de neutrino(s) stérile(s) "léger(s)" (Delta m2~1eV2). En second lieu, la mesure du spectre en énergie des neutrinos induit par la fission de l'uranium 235 offrira de nouvelles contraintes et permettra de sonder l'anomalie "gallium". Le détecteur d'une masse de 1,6 tonne, segmenté en 12800 cubes de détection de 5x5x5 cm3, repose sur une nouvelle technologie basée sur l'utilisation de deux scintillateurs (PVT et ZnS) luent par des MPPCs. Après une mise en contexte des motivations physique qui ont poussées à la recherche d'une nouvelle saveur de neutrino et une description détaillée du détecteur, ce manuscrit décrit la qualité des données de la phase 1 de SoLid correspondant à 287 jours de réacteur ON. Les sélections de différents bruit de fond afin de caractériser la réponse du détecteur seront ensuite présentées. La partie suivante décrit les méthodes statistiques utilisées pour contraindre l'espace des paramètres d'oscillation vers un neutrino stérile dans le cadre d'expérience à très courte distance. Enfin, la dernière partie présente une première analyse préliminaire d'oscillation à partir des données de la phase 1 en utilisant une méthode bayésienne.

The asymmetric simple exclusion process (ASEP) is a stochastic model featuring particles with contact interactions hopping randomly on a one dimensional lattice. Despite its simplicity, it possesses many interesting theoretical characteristic, as a generically non equilibrium steady state, complex hydrodynamics properties and connections with the KPZ universality class. The fact that it is exactly solvable by various methods makes it a model of choice to further our understanding of out-of-equilibrium statistical physics. If many results are known for the ASEP on a infinite lattice, much less is known for the process in finite volume. In this thesis we consider the totally asymmetric case (TASEP) with open boundary conditions of the process. We obtain exact expressions for the spectral gaps of an operator giving access to the fluctuations of the current of particle in regimes of the model relevant to KPZ universality in the large system size limit. Our derivation of the eigenstates of the TASEP is based on the systematic construction of the analytic continuations of expressions previously known for the ground state of the process, and are validated by Bethe ansatz. Connections are made with existing results for the exclusion process with periodic boundary conditions., Le processus d'exclusion simple asymétrique (ASEP) est un modèle stochastique dans lequel des particules présentant des interactions de contact se déplacent aléatoirement sur un réseau unidimensionnel. Malgré la simplicité de sa définition, de nombreuses propriétés théoriques telles que le fait qu'il présente un état stationnaire hors-équilibre ou les liens qui le relient à la classe d'universalité KPZ en font un des modèles les plus étudiés en physique statistiques. Il est de plus intégrable par ansatz de Bethe et son état stationnaire peut être calculé explicitement par ansatz matriciel, de sorte qu'il permet de dériver des résultats exacts pour la classe d'universalité KPZ. Dans cette thèse nous considérons le cas totalement asymétrique (TASEP) du processus avec des conditions aux bords ouvertes. Nous obtenons des expressions exactes pour les premiers états excités d'un opérateur donnant accès aux fluctuations du courant de particules en temps fini dans la limite thermodynamique, pour des régimes du système présentant des propriétés universelles caractéristiques de la classe KPZ. Notre méthode de calcul des états propres du TASEP ouvert est fondée sur le calcul systématique du prolongement analytique d'expressions déjà connues pour l'état stationnaire du processus, obtenue par une généralisation de l'ansatz matriciel. Ces résultats sont ensuite validés et partiellement démontré par l'étude asymptotiques des équations de Bethe du processus.

Mixing by vertical vibrations is a growing subject of study thanks to the development of a mechanism by mechanical resonance allowing the mixing of viscous fluids and powders, called RAM (Resonant Acoustic Mixing), and involving Faraday instability. . This thesis is part of the analysis of vibrational mixing by studying the behavior of a two-phase medium, a single-phase fluid containing a concentration of species or a suspension, subjected to this instability. Using numerical simulations carried out with the NOTUS code, developed in the I2M laboratory, comparisons are made between these results and those obtained from the linear analysis of the Faraday instability, as well as experimental data provided by the company Roxel which supports this project. A model allowing to calculate the evolution of the volume fraction during the mixing is implemented in the code in order to be able to simulate the behavior of a loaded fluid subjected to the vibrations imposed by the RAM mixer., Le mixage par vibrations verticales est un sujet d'étude en plein croissance grâce au développement d'un mécanisme par résonance mécanique permettant le malaxage de fluides visqueux et de poudres, nommé RAM (Resonant Acoustic Mixing), et faisant intervenir l'instabilité de Faraday. Cette thèse s'inscrit dans l'analyse du mixage vibratoire en étudiant le comportement d'un milieu diphasique, d'un fluide monophasique contenant une concentration d'espèce ou une suspension, soumis à cette instabilité. À l'aide de simulations numériques effectuées avec le code NOTUS, développé au sein du laboratoire I2M, des comparaisons sont effectuées entre ces résultats et ceux obtenus à partir de l'analyse linéaire de l'instabilité de Faraday, ainsi que des données expérimentales fournies par l'entreprise Roxel qui supporte ce projet. Un modèle permettant de calculer l'évolution de la fraction volumique pendant le mixage est implémenté dans le code afin de pouvoir simuler le comportement d'un fluide chargé soumis aux vibrations imposées par le mélangeur RAM.

Interaction of a self-propelling artificial or biological entity, with cell membrane plays a crucial role in governing various important processes like microbial infections, drug delivery, and nanomaterial toxicity. In this thesis, the behaviour of self-propelling artificial Janus colloids in- and out-of thermal equilibrium conditions on encountering a Giant Unilamellar Vesicle was investigated. Also, the interaction dynamics for Janus colloids in active and passive conditions were observed by utilizing spontaneous and force driven interactions conditions. Centrifugations and Optical tweezer methods were employed to achieve activated engulfment which helped in gaining a deeper understanding on the factors that govern engulfment of a spherical colloid by GUV.The rotation and translation diffusion for a Brownian Janus colloid near a single solid boundary as well as in spontaneous interaction with a GUV were investigated and the results were found in tune with the previous theoretical prediction. A striking orbital motion was observed when an active Janus colloid encountered a GUV in its path. Activated engulfment of spherical Janus/bare colloids, triggered by external force showed a severe confinement effect and significant slowing down in the rotational and translational diffusion of the colloids. The activity of a Janus colloid was also found to be severely hampered in engulfed conditions., L'interaction d'une entité artificielle ou biologique autopropulsée avec la membrane cellulaire joue un rôle crucial dans la gestion de divers processus importants tels que les infections microbiennes, l'administration de médicaments et la toxicité des nanomatériaux Dans cette thèse, le comportement des colloïdes artificiels autopropulsés de Janus dans et hors des conditions d'équilibre thermique lors de la rencontre avec une colloïdes de Janus a été observée en utilisant des conditions d'interactions spontanées et forcées. Des centrifugations et des méthodes de pinces optiques ont été utilisées pour obtenir un engloutissement activé, ce qui a permis de mieux comprendre les facteurs qui régissent l'engloutissement d'un colloïde sphérique par une GUV.La diffusion de la rotation et de la translation pour un colloïde brownien de Janus près d'une surface a solide unique ainsi que dans l'interaction spontanée avec un GUV a été étudiée et les résultats se sont avérés en accord avec les prédictions théorique. Un mouvement orbital a été observé lorsqu'un colloïde de Janus actif rencontre un GUV sur son chemin. L'engloutissement activé de colloïdes de Janus sphériques ou nus, déclenché par une force externe, a montré un effet de confinement important et un ralentissement significatif de la diffusion rotationnelle et translationnelle des colloïdes. L'activité d'un colloïde de Janus est également sévèrement entravée dans des conditions d'engloutissement.

International audience; A complete understanding of the brain requires an integrated description of the numerous scales of neural organization. It means studying the interplay of genes, synapses, and even whole brain regions which ultimately leads to different types of behavior, from perception to action, while asleep or awake. Yet, multiscale brain modeling is challenging, in part because of the difficulty to access simultaneously to information from multiple spatiotemporal scales. While some insights have been gained on the role of specific microcircuits (e.g., thalamocortical), a comprehensive characterization of how changes occurring at one scale can have an impact on other ones, remains poorly understood. Recent efforts to address this gap include the development of new analytical tools mostly adapted from network science and dynamical systems theory. These theoretical contributions provide a powerful framework to analyze and model interconnected complex systems exhibiting interactions within and between different scales, or layers. Here, we present recent advances for the characterization of the multiscale brain organization in terms of structure-function, oscillation frequencies and temporal evolution. Efforts are reviewed on the multilayer network properties underlying higher-order organization of neuronal assemblies, as well as on the identification of multimodal network-based biomarkers of brain pathologies, such as Alzheimer's disease. We conclude this Colloquium with a perspective discussion on how recent results from multilayer network theory, involving generative modeling, controllability and machine learning, could be adopted to address new questions in modern neuroscience.

In this manuscript, I present the work done during my PhD on confined Brownian motion. Brownian motion is the erratic movement of microscopic particles when immersed into a fluid. Thanks to Einstein and his successors, it is generally possible to describe Brownian motion using simple equations. However, in the last two decades a scientific revolution has taken place with the advent of miniaturization and in particular microfluidics, enabling the creation of complex networks of pipes at the micrometer scale. Microfluidics makes it possible to sort out particles, such as drops, cells or bubbles, but also to distribute drugs in cells and observe their effect on thousands of them. Regarding Brownian motion, it has been observed that once confined near a wall, a particle moves much slower due to non-slip boundary conditions at the wall. The mobility is thus modified by confinement-induced effects.My thesis work consists in experimentally measuring, analyzing and modeling the movement of micrometric colloids diffusing near a wall. To track the motion of confined Brownian microparticles, I use Lorenz-Mie holography. The Lorenz-Mie framework allows me to record the thermally-induced three-dimensional trajectories of individual microparticles, within salty aqueous solutions, in the vicinity of a rigid wall, and in the presence of surface charge with a nanometric resolution. From the recorded trajectory, I construct the time-dependent position and displacement probability density functions, and analyze the non-Gaussian character of the latter which is a direct signature of the hindered mobility near the wall. Based on these distributions, I implement a novel, robust and self-calibrated multifitting method, allowing thermal-noise-limited inference of diffusion coefficients spatially-resolved at the nanoscale, equilibrium potentials, and forces at the femtonewton resolution. Moreover, I use this novel tool to deduce non-conservative forces and study long-time higher-order statistical properties. Our objective for the future is to use this novel tool to have a new approach in various problems relevant to nanophysics and microbiology., Dans ce manuscrit, je présente le travail effectué pendant mon doctorat sur le mouvement brownien confiné. Le mouvement brownien est le mouvement erratique de particules microscopiques lorsqu'elles sont immergées dans un fluide. Grâce à Einstein et ses successeurs, il est généralement possible de décrire le mouvement brownien à l'aide d'équations simples. Cependant, au cours des deux dernières décennies, une révolution scientifique a eu lieu avec l'avènement de la miniaturisation et en particulier de la microfluidique, permettant la création de réseaux complexes de tuyaux à l'échelle micrométrique. La microfluidique permet de trier des particules, comme des gouttes, des cellules ou des bulles, mais aussi de distribuer des médicaments dans des cellules et d'observer leur effet sur des milliers d'entre elles. En ce qui concerne le mouvement brownien, il a été observé qu'une fois confinée près d'une paroi, une particule se déplace beaucoup plus lentement en raison des conditions de non-glissement à la paroi. La mobilité est donc modifiée par les effets induits par le confinement.Mon travail de thèse consiste à mesurer, analyser et modéliser expérimentalement le mouvement de colloïdes micrométriques diffusant près d'une paroi. Pour suivre le mouvement de microparticules browniennes confinées, j'utilise l'holographie de Lorenz-Mie. Le cadre de Lorenz-Mie me permet d'enregistrer les trajectoires tridimensionnelles thermiquement induites de microparticules individuelles, dans des solutions aqueuses salées, à proximité d'une paroi rigide, et en présence d'une charge de surface avec une résolution nanométrique. A partir de la trajectoire enregistrée, je construis les fonctions de densité de probabilité de position et de déplacement en fonction du temps, et j'analyse le caractère non-gaussien de ces dernières qui est une signature directe de la mobilité modifiée près de la paroi. Sur la base de ces distributions, je mets en œuvre une nouvelle méthode d'ajustement multiple, robuste et auto-calibrée, permettant l'inférence limitée par le bruit thermique des coefficients de diffusion résolus spatialement à l'échelle nanométrique, des potentiels d'équilibre et des forces résolus au femtonewton. De plus, j'utilise ce nouvel outil pour déduire les forces non-conservatives et étudier les propriétés statistiques d'ordre supérieur à long terme. Notre objectif pour l'avenir est d'utiliser ce nouvel outil pour avoir une nouvelle approche dans divers problèmes liés à la nanophysique et à la microbiologie.

International audience; Cavity ringdown spectroscopy (CRDS) has been widely used for three decades as a high sensitivity spectroscopy technique. It is usually used with narrow-linewidth light sources, allowing high resolution and spectral density, but requiring long acquisition times for a wide spectral coverage due to laser diode tuning delays. A broadband light source would offer a multiplex acquisition along CRDS advantages.We have developed a new CRDS technique based on a fast-scan time-resolved Fourier transform spectrometer (FTS), an optical cavity and a frequency comb source in the NIR region. The comb is locked to the cavity to ensure continuous output transmission. We present our latest results with atmospheric CO2 at ambient temperature.We achieve a noise-equivalent absorption of 1.5 × 10-8 cm-1 for a single acquisition of 25 s with a resolution of 592 MHz over a spectral bandwidth of 20 cm-1. This yields a noise-equivalent absorption sensitivity of 2.4 × 10-9 cm-1 Hz-1/2 per spectral element.

Based on the existed fluid model in our group , a 1D fluid model of radio-frequency (RF) capacitively-coupled silane/hydrogen plasmas that includes a detailed chemistry for silane-hydrogen discharge as well as the surface reactions to account for deposition and etching processes has been developed and tested against the experimental results. In particular, the surface chemistry including recombination, etching, and deposition reactions is coupled to the fluid model via a set of reaction probabilities. The 1-D fluid model was also coupled with a sectional model and transport equations to account for the formation of nanoparticles within plasma and the evolution of both size and charge distributions of the nanoparticles. To make the coupled 1-D fluid-sectional model computationally efficient, a time-splitting method was employed. Two groups of the fast and slow variables were defined depending on the characteristic time scale of their dynamics with respect to the period of RF field oscillations. The governing equations for two groups were solved in alteration by keeping the variables from another group as the “frozen” ones and using a smaller time step for the fast variable group compared to the time step for the slow variable group. The time averaged values of the fast variables (e.g. electrical potential, electron temperature, gas species densities, fluxes of species onto particles, nucleation rate, ion drag force) were used as the input values for the block of slow variable equations. The parametric tests were performed to find the optimal time-splitting conditions (fast and slow time steps, number of RF cycles for the fast variable block). The time-splitting approach was validated with the fully coupled code by using the same time step for both fast and slow variables. Also, the contribution of nanoparticles to the total deposition rate of silicon thin films was estimated and compared with experiments.Both numerical and experimental studies of the effects of gas pressure (1 to 3.5 Torr) and silane concentration (2 to 10%) on the deposition rate of silicon thin films in a standard plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) reactor demonstrated that the deposition rate as determined from the optical modelling of UV-visible spectroscopic ellipsometry measurements agrees well with the modeling results. SiH3 radicals are found to be the main contributor to the computed deposition rates, whereas H3+ ions play the main role in the etching process.The developed 1-D fluid model can be used for the studies of complex silane/hydrogen plasma properties at different process conditions, thus, predicting the behavior of plasma species and nanoparticles at nanoscale that is not accessible with the direct in-situ measurement techniques., Sur la base d’un modèle fluide développé dans notre groupe, un modèle fluide 1D de plasmas silane/hydrogène dans des décharges RF à couplage capacitif comprenant une chimie détaillée du plasma ainsi que des réactions de surface pour tenir compte des processus de dépôt et de gravure a été développé et testé par rapport aux résultats expérimentaux. En particulier, la chimie de surface, y compris les réactions de recombinaison, de gravure et de dépôt, est couplée au modèle de fluide via un ensemble de probabilités de réaction. Le modèle fluide 1-D a également été couplé à un modèle sectionnel et à des équations de transport pour tenir compte de la formation de nanoparticules dans le plasma et de l'évolution des distributions de taille et de charge des nanoparticules. Pour rendre le modèle fluide-sectionnel couplé 1-D efficace du point de vue informatique (réduire le temps de calcul), une méthode de fractionnement du temps a été utilisée. Deux groupes de variables (rapides et lentes) ont été définis en fonction de l'échelle de temps caractéristique de leur dynamique par rapport à la période des oscillations du champ RF (74 ns). Les équations régissant les deux groupes ont été résolues de façon itérative en gardant les variables d'un autre groupe comme « figées » et en utilisant un pas de temps plus petit pour le groupe de variables rapides par rapport au pas de temps pour le groupe de variables lentes. Les valeurs moyennes dans le temps des variables rapides (par exemple le potentiel électrique, la température électronique, la densités d'espèces gazeuses, le flux d'espèces sur les particules, le taux de nucléation, ou la force de traînée ionique) ont été utilisées comme valeurs d'entrée pour le bloc d'équations de variables lentes. Les tests paramétriques ont été effectués pour trouver les conditions optimales de répartition dans le temps (pas de temps rapides et lents, nombre de cycles RF pour le bloc variable rapide). L'approche de fractionnement du temps a été validée avec le code entièrement couplé en utilisant le même pas de temps pour les variables rapides et lentes. De plus, la contribution des nanoparticules au taux de dépôt total des films minces de silicium a été estimée et comparée à des expériences.Des études numériques et expérimentales sur les effets de la pression du gaz (1 à 3,5 Torr) et de la concentration de silane (2 à 10 %) sur la vitesse de dépôt de films minces de silicium ont démontré que la vitesse de dépôt déterminé à partir de la modélisation des mesures de la fonction diélectrique pare ellipsométrie dans le domaine UV-visible concorde bien avec les résultats de la modélisation. Les radicaux SiH3 s'avèrent être le principal contributeur aux taux de dépôt calculés, tandis que les ions H3+ jouent le rôle principal dans le processus de gravure.Le modèle fluide 1-D peut être utilisé pour étudier les propriétés complexes du plasma silane/hydrogène dans différentes conditions de procédé, et prédire ainsi le comportement des espèces réactives et des nanoparticules, ce qui n’est pas facilement accessible avec des techniques de mesure caractérisation in situ.

Impairment of axonal transport has recently emerged as a common characteristics of several neurodegenerative disorders (ND). Early impairments of intraneuronal transport has been thus proposed as a phenotypic trait common to ND, such as Alzheimer’s (AD) and Parkinson’s Disease (PD). There is compelling evidence that abnormal accumulation in the brain of misfolded proteins, including alpha-synuclein (alpha-syn) in PD and ß-amyloid (Aß) in AD, is a key pathophysiological mechanism underlying the neurotoxicity observed in these age-related disorders. Furthermore, the misfolded proteins gather to form non-soluble assemblies of different species, including fibrillar polymorphs (of fibril [alpha-synF] or ribbon [alpha-synR] type for alpha-syn, and fibril only for Aß) or oligomer for Aß. These different aggregates are suspected to underly the large spectrum of toxicity observed in ND. There is evidence that they impact the endosomal transport, which is essential in establishing neuronal compartments architecture, dynamics, and functions. However, few studies have compared in the same neurons the impact of the different assembly types and their own transport.This thesis presents a detailed quantitative and comparative analysis of the impact on endo-lysosomal transport of alpha-synF and alpha-synR fibrillar polymorphs, Aß fibrils, and Aß oligomers, externally applied on mature mouse cortical neurons in culture. We measured by fast fluorescence videomicroscopy endosomal and lysosomal transports using photostable fluorescent diamond nanocrystals and lysotracker dye, respectively, followed by the subsequent automatic extraction and quantification at high throughput of their directed motions constituted of the successions of displacements and pauses. All protein assemblies led to a large decrease in the fraction of endosomes and lysosomes having directed motion inside the neurons, which is expected to impact neuron homeostasis substantially. We further evidenced the differential impacts of these pathogenic protein assemblies on various parameters of endo-lysosomal transport. Finally, we were able to quantify the transport parameters of the compartments loaded with these assemblies and observed that they have a more irregular transport than endosomes and lysosomes, in particular, more frequent but also shorter pauses. These observations suggest that these cargoes have distinct molecular characteristics, but further work is necessary to elucidate their precise nature. Overall, our results point out that alpha-syn fibrillar polymorphs, Aß fibrils, and oligomers impair intraneuronal transport. We hypothesize that the polymorphs either interact directly with the intraneuronal transport molecular machinery or induce changes in intracellular homeostasis., L'altération du transport axonal est récemment apparue comme un trait caractéristique commun à plusieurs maladies neurodégénératives (MN). Des anomalies précoces du transport intraneuronal ont ainsi été proposées comme traits phénotypiques communs aux MN, telles que la maladie d'Alzheimer (MA) et la maladie de Parkinson (MP). Il existe des preuves indubitables que l'accumulation anormale dans le cerveau de protéines mal repliées, notamment l'alpha-synucléine (alpha-syn) dans la MP et la l’amyloïde ß (Aß) dans la MA, est un mécanisme physiopathologique clé qui sous-tend la neurotoxicité observée dans ces troubles liés à l'âge. En outre, les protéines mal repliées se rassemblent pour former des assemblages non solubles de différentes espèces, notamment des polymorphes fibrillaires (de type fibrille [alpha-synF] ou ruban [alpha-synR] pour l'alpha-syn, et fibrille uniquement pour l'Aß) ou oligomèriques pour l'Aß. Ces différents agrégats sont suspectés d'être à l'origine de la grande diversité de toxicités observée dans les MN. Il existe des preuves que ces agrégats affectent le transport endosomal, qui est essentiel à la mise en place des compartiments neuronaux, au maintien de leur dynamique et à leur bon fonctionnement. Cependant, peu d'études ont étudié, dans les mêmes neurones, les effets sur le transport endosomal des différents types d'assemblages ainsi que leur propre transport.Cette thèse présente une analyse quantitative et comparative détaillée des effets sur le transport endo-lysosomal des polymorphes fibrillaires alpha-synF et alpha-synR, des fibrilles Aß et des oligomères Aß, ajoutés à des neurones corticaux matures de souris en culture. Nous avons enregistré par vidéomicroscopie de fluorescence à haute cadence les déplacements des endosomes et des lysosomes en utilisant respectivement des nanocristaux de diamants fluorescents photostables et un marqueur lysosomal fluorescent, puis nous avons extrait et quantifié automatiquement, à haut débit, les caractéristiques de leur mouvement dirigé constitué de successions de phases de déplacement et de pauses. Tous les assemblages protéiques ont conduit à une forte diminution de la fraction d'endosomes et de lysosomes présentant un mouvement dirigé, ce qui devrait avoir un effet néfaste substantiel sur l'homéostasie des neurones. Nous avons également mis en évidence que ces assemblages protéiques pathogènes modifiaient différemment les paramètres du transport endo-lysosomal. Enfin, nous avons quantifié les paramètres de transport des compartiments chargées avec de tels assemblages marqués par un fluorophore et nous avons observé qu'ils ont un transport plus irrégulier que celui des endosomes et des lysosomes, présentant en particulier, des pauses plus fréquentes mais aussi plus courtes. Ces observations suggèrent que ces compartiments ont des caractéristiques moléculaires distinctes, mais des travaux supplémentaires sont nécessaires pour élucider leur nature précise. Nos travaux démontrent que les polymorphes fibrillaires d'alpha-syn, les fibrilles d'Aß et les oligomères altèrent le transport intraneuronal. Ces altérations pourraient résulter soit d’interactions directes des agrégats protéiques avec la « machinerie moléculaire » du transport intraneuronal, soit des changements d’homéostasie intracellulaire qu’ils provoquent.

The aim of this thesis is to study the 3H4->3H5 of thulium ion for 2,3µm laser emission.Such lasers emitting in the near mid-infrared domain are in high demand nowadays because of their applications in molecules sensing, especially pollutants or biological molecules.The state of the art of the applications of 2.3 µm lasers is detailed, as well as a state of the art of reported lasers sources in this spectral range.The specificities of the 3H_4->3H5 of thulium ions and the properties of the studied materials will be presented. The measurements of key spectroscopic parameters for this transition is also reported., Cette thèse a porté sur l'étude de la transition à 3H4->3H5 de l'ion thulium pour la génération d'une émission laser autour de 2,3 µm.Les lasers émettant dans le domaine spectral du moyen infrarouge suscitent un intérêt croissant pour de nombreuses applications dans le domaine de la détection de molécules, en particulier de molécules polluantes ou d'intérêt biologique. Nous passerons en revue ces applications générales aux lasers moyen infrarouges ainsi que celles spécifiques aux lasers à 2,3µm. Nous présenterons ensuite un état de l'art des sources existantes dans cette gamme spectrale.Nous présenterons ensuite les spécificités de la transition 3H4->3H du thulium ainsi que les propriétés des matrices étudiées. Les mesures des paramètres spectroscopiques cruciaux pour cette transition seront présentées sur un large éventail de matériaux laser.Enfin, les résultats lasers obtenus seront exposés. Des puissances de l'ordre du watt et des rendements trois à à quatre fois supérieurs à ceux reportés dans l'état de l'art ont été obtenus grâce à une meilleure compréhension des phénomènes de transferts entre ions. De plus, un schéma de pompage original basé sur un mécanisme d'avalanche de photons autour de 1,05µm ou 1,45µm a été démontré.Ce nouveau schéma de pompage est particulièrement prometteur pour les architectures laser guidées ou pour les régimes impulsionnels.Une modélisation des systèmes laser proposés, prenant en compte les différents processus de transferts impliqués, est également présenté.

In this study, we use a topological optimization algorithm, developed at the CNRS LPSC, to design a heavy-water neutron moderator for a BNCT treatment unit. The solutions generated by this algorithm are compact yet succeed in limiting the exposure of patient's healthy tissues to levels below recommended limits. They present subtle, original geometries inaccessible to standard design techniques. The versatility of this novel approach makes it possible to automate the moderator design, and fit it to the configuration of the BNCT unit considered, e.g. the neutron source and materials it uses or the room it occupies, as well as to the biological parameters of its patients, e.g. the volume and depth of the tumor to be treated or the characteristics of the targeted organs.

In this manuscript, we study flows in the vicinity of soft interfaces through various systems. In a first part, we focus on elastohydrodynamic lubrication, and analyze the confined motion of a rigid sphere moving close to a soft surface. The hydrodynamic interactions between an oscillating sphere and the deformation of the surface allow us to characterize without contact the complex mechanical response of materials, such as viscoelasticity, poroelasticity or capillarity. Theoretical results are confronted with colloidal-probe atomic force microscopy experiments, allowing us to measure the rheology of elastomers and the surface tension of liquid-air interfaces in the presence of impurities. Then, we calculate the forces and torques that apply on spheres that are free to move and rotate in all directions. The elastohydrodynamic lift force, measured experimentally, is in agreement with theoretical predictions for small surface deformations. In a second part, we focus on the dynamics of thin films. Through theoretical and experimental work on the capillary leveling of thin polymer films, we analyze the dynamics of films resting on an elastic substrate, bilayer films and freestanding films. A last part is dedicated to the diffusion of spheres in shear flows and near a wall. We analyze the enhancement of the effective diffusion coefficient induced by the coupling between diffusion and advection. Particular interest is given to the dynamics at short times compared with the diffusion time and to the interactions of the particles with the wall., Dans ce manuscrit, nous étudions des écoulements au voisinage d’interfaces molles au travers de systèmes divers. Dans une première partie, nous nous intéressons à la lubrification élastohydrodynamique, et analysons le mouvement confiné d’une sphère rigide se déplaçant à proximité d’une surface déformable. Les interactions hydrodynamiques entre une sphère oscillante et la déformation de la surface permettent de caractériser sans contact la réponse mécanique complexe des matériaux, comme la viscoélastiticité, la poroélasticité ou la capillarité. Les résultats théoriques sont confrontés à des expériences de microscopie à force atomique avec une sonde colloïdale, permettant de mesurer la rhéologie d’élastomères et la tension de surface d’interfaces liquide-air en présence d’impuretés. Ensuite, nous calculons les forces et couples qui s’appliquent sur des sphères ayant la liberté de se déplacer et de tourner dans toutes les directions. La force de portance élastohydrodynamique, mesurée expérimentalement, est en accord avec les prédictions théoriques pour des faibles déformations de la surface. Dans une deuxième partie, nous nous intéressons à la dynamique de films visqueux mince. Au travers de travaux théoriques et expérimentaux sur le nivellement capillaire de films de polymères, nous analysons la dynamique de films reposant sur un substrat élastique, de films bicouches et de films suspendus. Une dernière partie est dédiée à la diffusion de sphères dans des écoulements cisaillés et au voisinage d’une paroi. Nous analysons l’augmentation du coefficient de diffusion effectif induit par le couplage entre diffusion et advection. Un intérêt particulier est porté sur la dynamique aux temps courts devant le temps de diffusion et sur les interactions des particules avec le mur.

There are perhaps four primary observational uncertainties that question the foundations cosmology, known as: the Hubble tension, dark matter, dark energy, and the predictive phenomenology of modified Newtonian dynamics (MOND). While available empirical evidence corroborates general relativity, precise measurement of the Newtonian gravitational constant and a complete theory of quantum gravity remain elusive.We assume firstly that the equivalence principle applies identically to matter and anti-matter vacuum fluctuations. Secondly, that on a sufficiently large scale in vacuum, the mass density of fluctuations is isotropic everywhere. From isotropy it follows at large scale the resultant gravitational field of vacuum fluctuations is zero. On addition of attracting mass matter and anti-matter fluctuations accelerate and are displaced identically. Gravitational displacement of the vacuum induces a small resultant mass and energy density - without assuming gravitational vacuum polarisation.Given conservation of gravitational four-momentum vacuum fluctuations form a virtual fluid at large scale. From a model relativistic Lagrangian density only gravitational displacement orthogonal to the directional of fluid flow are effective. Thus, the resultant vacuum effect is reduced in the Solar System and can possibly explain large discrepancies in measurement of the Newtonian gravitational constant on Earth.The resultant gravitational potential energy density of vacuum fluctuations yield a cosmological constant $\Lambda \gtrsim 10^{-54} \text{m}^{-2}$, two orders of magnitude less than the observed value. The value of $G$ corrected for the gravitational vacuum effect is $6.67\;419 \cdot 10^{-11}\text{m}^3\text{kg}^{-1}\text{s}^{-2}$ with a relative standard deviation of $15.0$ ppm, reduced from $87.9$ ppm as shown in Figure 1.

Highly coherent optical sources are a key element in several fields of physics, in particular in time frequency metrology. Over the past decennia, there has been particular efforts in developing such sources to the expense of sophisticated laser systems and relatively smart electronics. We propose here a new general principle of a self-adaptive oscillator where the intricate operation of a 100-m-long active optical resonator and a standard semiconductor laser offers a very high spectral purity and can be tailored to any wavelength. Single frequency operation of this self-adaptive photonic oscillator is achieved without any servo locking or stabilization electronics. Free running operation leads to a Lorentzian linewidth of 40 mHz. The long-term drift of the optical frequency in the free running regime is within 10 MHz over hours. This principle applies to any wavelength attainable by laser diodes which opens tremendous opportunities in particular in applications where atomic or molecular transitions require precise wavelengths., Comment: 12 pages, 6 figures, 57 references

According to the latest report from the World Health Orgamization (WHO), malaria remains a disease having a strong negative impact on the African population, especially Ivory Coast population. In view of the health, economic and financial burden caused by this disease, our study was to develop new techniques for malaria diagnosis in Ivory Coast. Our contributions in this thesis concern two major levels: the construction of an optical system and the development of image processing techniques, which combined together allowed the distinction of infected blood cells from uninfected ones.First, following a partnership between the Laboratory of Instrumentation, Image and Spectroscopy (L2IS) and the University of LUND in Sweden, we built a new model of multispectral and multimodal microscope. It is an improvement of the standard optical microscope found in health centers in Ivory Coast. It is also an improvement of the microscope (multispectral and multimodal) that we found arriving at L2IS. The system we built has the particularity of being extensible. It means it can be adapted to the needs of the user both in terms of imaging modalities and in terms of the illumination sources used. We modified and adapted it to malaria diagnosis purpose. For this purpose, we equipped the system with lasers whose wavelengths are 405 nm, 450 nm, 538 nm and 638 nm. The wavelengths chosen are those which are the most discriminating for malaria parasites detection. Our experiments were performed by acquiring multispectral images using the system we built and the one we found at L2IS upon our arrival (it consists of 13 light emitting diodes ranging from 375 nm to 940 nm). We finally obtain multi-component images consisting of the one hand of four (4) spectral planes and on the other hand of thirteen (13).Second, we developed image processing techniques to analyze images produced using the aforementioned multispectral and multimodal microscopes. The works of this part were performed following a partnership between L2IS and LARIS (Laboratoire Angevin de Recherche en Ingénierie des Systèmes) from University of Angers. These works were based on a multi-component texture analysis through Local Binary Pattern (LBP)technique. Resulting from statistical approaches, the choice of Local Binary Pattern (LBP) for the analysis of our images instead of frequency, morphological and structural approaches was adopted because of their simplicity and their robustness in textures classification. Its principle is based on locally describing a texture. Different variants have been developed to make them more robust: on the one hand, those improving the topology of the neighborhood, the sampling of the neighborhood, the thresholding, the quantization. On the other hand, the grouping and encoding of bits and finally the combination of LBP methods with each other or with other methods. We implemented several algorithms to conduct a comparative study between statisticalapproaches and other approaches on the one hand, and between different statistical approaches on the other 17hand. These algorithms were applied to the reference image databases that are Outex, Brodatz and Curet. From comparison tests, it emerges that the statistical approaches denote a higher rate of well-classified than those of other texture analysis approaches. Concerning the comparison tests from statistical approaches between them, the results show that the methods combining several variants of LBP provide better texture classification.Locals Binary Patterns were originally developed for grayscale images. Therefore, they are not straightforward applicable to multispectral images due to the presence of vectors instead of grayscale levels., Selon le dernier rapport de l’Organisation Mondiale de la Santé (OMS), le paludisme demeure une maladie présentant un fort impact négatif sur la population africaine notamment celle de la Côte d’Ivoire. Au regard du poids sanitaire, économique et financier provoqué par cette maladie, notre étude a été de développer de nouvelles techniques destinées au diagnostic du paludisme en Côte d’Ivoire. Nos contributions dans cette thèse se situent à deux niveaux majeurs que sont la construction d’un système optique et le développement de techniques de traitement d’images ; lesquels combinés a permis la distinction de cellules sanguines infectées de celles non infectées par le paludisme.Dans un premier temps nous avons, à la suite d’un partenariat entre le Laboratoire d’Instrumentation, Image et Spectroscopie (L2IS) et l’université de LUND en Suède, implémenté un nouveau modèle de microscope multispectral et multimodal. Il est une amélioration du microscope optique standard rencontré dans les centres de santé en Côte d’Ivoire. Il est également une amélioration du microscope (multispectral et multimodal) que nous avons trouvé à notre arrivée au L2IS. Le système construit présente la particularité d’être extensible c’est-à-dire pouvant être adapté aux besoins de l’utilisateur tant au niveau des modalités d’imagerie qu’au niveau des sources d’illumination utilisées. Nous l’avons modifié et adapté à notre objectif applicatif qui est le diagnostic du paludisme. A cet effet, nous l’avons équipé de lasers de longueurs d’ondes de 405 nm, 450 nm, 538 nm et 638 nm. Les longueurs d’ondes choisies sont celles étant les plus discriminantes pour le diagnostic du paludisme. Nos expérimentations ont été réalisées en acquérant des images multispectrales en utilisant le système que nous avons construit et également en utilisant le système trouvé au sein du L2IS à notre arrivée (constitué de 13 diodes électroluminescentes allant de 375 nm à 940 nm). Nous obtenons finalement des images multi-composantes constituées d’une part de quatre (4) plans spectraux et d’autre part de treize (13). Dans un deuxième temps, nous avons développé des techniques de traitement d’images pour l’analyse des images produites en utilisant les microscopes multispectraux et multimodaux précédemment cités. Les travaux relatifs au développement de ces techniques de traitement d’images ont été réalisés à la suite d’un partenariat entre le L2IS et le LARIS (Laboratoire Angevin de Recherche en Ingénierie des Systèmes) sis à l’Université d’Angers. Ces travaux reposent sur une analyse de textures multi-composantes basée sur les Local Binary Pattern (LBP). Issus des approches statistiques, le choix des Local Binay Pattern (LBP) pour l’analyse de nos images vis-à-vis des approches fréquentielles, morphologiques et structurelles a été adopté en raison de leur simplicité et de leur robustesse dans la classification de textures. Ils permettent de décrire localement la texture d’une image. Différentes variantes ont été développées afin de les rendre plus robustes : D’une part, celles améliorant la topologie du voisinage, l’échantillonnage du voisinage, le seuillage, la quantification. D’autre part, le regroupement et l’encodage des bits puis enfin la combinaison des méthodes LBP entre elles ou avec d’autres méthodes.

The research carried out in the framework of this thesis has consisted in the development of zinc phosphate glass (45mol. %ZnO-55mol. %P₂O₅) based composites, loaded by different graphite fractions, to study their thermoelectric properties. The structural characterizations of the obtained composites were carried out using different techniques such as X-ray Diffraction (DRX), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR). Then, their thermoelectric transport parameters were determined by measuring the following physical quantities : the electrical conductivity (σ), the thermal conductivity (κ) and the Seebeck coefficient (S). The obtained results were fitted using effective medium theory for each parameters. Based on these results, the figure of merit (ZT= σS²T/κ) quantifying the thermoelectric performance of the elaborated composites was calculated as a function of graphite concentration. This study showed that the figure of merit depends on the volumique concentration of graphite and shows a maximum at 5 vol.%. A signature of a percolation mechanism was observed on both the effective electrical conductivity σ and the effective κ/S ratio. A shift in percolation thresholds between each of these effective parameters was observed. We have demonstrated that the observed maximum in ZT value is due to this shift. To explain this behaviour, we suggest an electrical conduction mechanism by a tunneling effect between graphitic clusters., Les travaux de recherche effectués dans le cadre de cette thèse ont consisté à élaborer des composites à base du verre de phosphate de zinc (45mol. %ZnO-55mol. %P₂O₅), chargés par différentes fractions volumiques en graphite afin d'étudier leurs propriétés thermoélectriques. Les caractérisations structurales des matériaux composites obtenus ont été effectuées en utilisant différentes techniques comme la diffraction de rayons X (DRX), la microscopie électronique à balayage (MEB) et la spectroscopie infrarouge à transformée de Fourier (FTIR). Puis, leurs paramètres de transport thermoélectriques ont été déterminés à travers la mesure des grandeurs physiques suivantes : la conductivité électrique (σ), la conductivité thermique (κ) et le coefficient Seebeck (S). Les résultats obtenus ont été ajustés en utilisant les modèles de la théorie des milieux effectifs pour chacun de ces paramètres. A partir de ces résultats, le facteur de mérite (ZT= σS²T/κ) quantifiant la performance thermoélectrique des composites étudiés a été calculé en fonction de la concentration en graphite. Cette analyse a permis de montrer que le facteur de mérite des matériaux composites obtenus dépend de manière significative de la concentration en graphite et montrent une valeur maximale de ZT vers 5%vol. Une signature d'un mécanisme de percolation a été observée à la fois sur la conductivité électrique effective et sur le rapport κ/S effectif. Un décalage entre les seuils de percolation de chacun de ces paramètres effectifs a été observé. Nous avons montré que le maximum observé de la valeur de ZT s'explique par le décalage entre ces seuils. Nous avons avancé l'hypothèse d'un mécanisme de conduction électrique par effet tunnel entre amas de graphite pour expliquer que la manifestation de la percolation sur la conductivité électrique survient à des concentrations inférieures à celle sur le rapport κ/S.

This thesis work is devoted to the visualization and study by optical microscopy of long-range behaviours and spatiotemporal effects during thermo- and photo-induced phase transitions in spin crossover single crystals. The study of different single crystals of the compounds [Fe(2-pytrz)₂Pd(CN)₄]·3H₂O et [Fe(2-pytrz)₂Pt(CN)₄]·3H₂O with various geometric forms during their thermo-induced spin transition demonstrate the strong correlation between the high spin (HS) / low spin (LS) interface shape and macroscopic single crystals shapes. All single crystals exhibited an incomplete 1st order phase transition with an interface spreading over all crystals during the spin transition. We have been able to follow the real time dynamics of the spin transition between the HS and LS states and we could access the thermal hysteresis loop, interface's velocity and field velocity of each single crystal, as well. We found that the velocity of the interface is crystal shape-dependent, and accelerates nearby the crystal's borders. Interestingly, we observed that during the propagation process, the interface optimizes its shape so as to minimize the excess of elastic energy arising from the lattice parameter misfit between the LS and HS phases. All of these original experimental results are well reproduced using a spatiotemporal model based on the description of the spin-crossover problem as a reaction diffusion phenomenon. More than exploring the thermo-induced behaviours, we studied by optical microscopy the long-range character of the interactions acting in different single crystals through an analysis of the optical density variation during the spin transition between HS and LS states. Thus, the time evolution of the local optical density, measured in all single crystals, revealed the existence of precursor phenomena, which manifest themselves through the appearance of significant changes in the signal of the optical density of the probed area well before the arrival of the front interface in the case of HS to LS transition (cooling) and after the passage of the interface in the case of LS to HS (heating) transition. These two effects are attributed to the manifestation of long-range elastic interactions that develop during the propagation of the HS/LS interface, which is accompanied by a volume change, generating elastic stresses in the material that deploy far from the sources. Interestingly, the experimental investigations indicate that the precursor and the after effect phenomena occur mostly in the HS phase, a behaviour that we explained as due to the softer character of the HS phase compared to that of LS. These original experimental results are well reproduced by an electro-elastic theoretical description model in which we considered, the existence of different mechanical rigidities between the HS and LS phases. The photo-magnetic experiments on the compound [Fe(2-pytrz)₂{Pd(CN)₄}]·3H₂O, showed the existence of a fully LS hidden state at low temperature which is accessible only by photo-excitation and also probably by pressure. This state is the stable state of the system which generate a hidden hysteresis loop. We have studied by means of optical microscopy the photo-excitation at very low temperature on a single crystal of this compound allowing to follow in real time, the reverse-LIESST effect its thermal relaxation as well as the photo-instability induced by reverse-LITH. These experiments demonstrated the stability of the fundamental LS-LS state of the crystal, whose transformation on heating to the intermediate HS-LS state, exhibited clear evidence of domains propagation with well identified interfaces. These spin domains, leading to observe the coexistence of the two competing, are the signature of the occurrence of a 1st order phase transition at equilibrium. This experimental observation is also confirmed by a theoretical analysis based on an electro-elastic model, solved in its homogeneous version., Ce travail de thèse est dédié à la visualisation par microscopie optique des comportements à longue portée et des effets spatiotemporels émergeant au cours des transitions de phases thermo- et photo-induites dans les monocristaux à transition de spin. L’étude de différents monocristaux des composés [Fe(2-pytrz)₂Pd(CN)₄]·3H₂O et [Fe(2-pytrz)₂Pt(CN)₄]·3H₂O avec différentes formes géométriques pendant leur transition de spin thermo-induite a permis de démontrer la forte corrélation existant entre la forme du monocristal et celle de son interface haut spin (HS) / bas spin (BS). En effet, ces monocristaux qui effectuent une transition de spin incomplète et du 1er ordre avec un cycle d'hystérésis ont montré l’existence d’un régime de nucléation propagation avec un front d’interface bien défini dans tous les monocristaux lors de leur transformation de phase. Nous avons pu suivre la dynamique en temps réel de cette transition entre les deux états de spin HS et BS, et accéder au cycle d'hystérésis thermique à la vitesse de propagation de l'interface et au champ de vitesse. Nous avons observé que pendant le processus de propagation, l'interface optimise sa forme afin de minimiser l'excès d'énergie élastique résultant de la différence de volume entre les états HS et BS. Nous avons également mis en évidence que la vitesse de l'interface dépend à la fois de la forme de l’interface et du monocristal. Tous ces résultats ont été discutés du point de vue théorique, en décrivant la dynamique de propagation de l'interface par un modèle de de réaction diffusion, mettant ainsi en valeur le caractère non-linéaire du phénomène de propagation. Au-delà de l’exploration des propriétés thermo-induite, nous avons étudié par microscopie optique les effets à longue portée au cours de la transition de spin sur un ensemble de monocristaux provenant de différents composés. Tous ces composés effectuent une transition de phase du 1er ordre accompagnée d'une hystérésis thermique. L'évolution temporelle de la densité optique locale, mesurée dans tous les monocristaux, a révélée l'existence de phénomènes précurseurs, qui se manifestent par l'apparition de changements significatifs du signal de la densité optique de la zone sondée bien avant l'arrivée du front de transformation (interface) dans le cas de la transition de HS vers BS et après le passage de l'interface dans le cas de la transition de BS vers HS. Ces deux effets sont attribués aux interactions élastiques à longue portée qui se déploient lors de la propagation de l'interface HS/BS, et qui sont accompagnées par des contraintes mécaniques résultant du changement de volume du cristal. Dans tous les monocristaux, cette variation n’est observée que dans la phase HS, ce que nous expliquons par son caractère beaucoup moins rigide que celui de la phase BS. Ces résultats expérimentaux ont été confirmés par un modèle électroélastique dans lequel, nous avons tenu compte de la différence de rigidités mécaniques des phases HS et BS. Les études photomagnétiques effectuées sur le composé [Fe(2-pytrz)₂{Pd(CN)₄}]·3H₂O, ont montré l’existence d’un état caché à basse température totalement BS qui n’est accessible que par photo-excitation. Cet état est l’état stable du système et donne lieu à un cycle d’hystérésis caché. Nous avons ainsi mené des études sous lumière à très basse température sur un monocristal de ce composé permettant de suivre en temps réel la dynamique de transformation au cours d’une transformation de type LIESST-inverse ou LITH-inverse. Ces expériences ont permis de démontrer le caractère stable de cet état, noté BS-BS, du cristal en observant des domaines de propagation lors de sa transition vers l’état intermédiaire HS-BS. Ces domaines de spins sont la signature manifeste d’une transition du 1er ordre mettant en jeu la coexistence des deux états. Cette observation expérimentale est confirmée par une analyse théorique basée sur un modèle électro-élastique, résolu dans sa version homogène.

We have recently suggested a new quantum gravity theory that can be unified with quantum mechanics. We have coined this theory collision space-time. This new theory seems to be fully consistent with a 3-dimensional space-time, that is, three space dimensions and three time-dimensions, so some would call it six-dimensional. However, we have shown that collision-time and collision-length (space) are just two different sides of the same “coin” (space-time), so it is more intuitive to think of them as 3-dimensional space-time. In previous papers, we have not laid out a geometric coordinate system for our theory that also considers gravity, but we will do that here. We are pointing out that Einstein’s negative attitude towards relativistic mass can perhaps cause a weakness in the foundation of general relativity theory. When a relativistic mass is incorporated in the theory, this mass also seems to indicate one needs to move to three-dimensional space-time. Then, for example, our new theory matches fully up with all the properties of the Planck scale in relation to the mathematical properties of micro black holes, not only mathematically but also logically, something we demonstrate clearly that it is not the case of general relativity theory. Our new metric has many benefits as an alternative to the Schwarzschild metric and general relativity theory. It seems to be more consistent with the Planck units than the Schwarzschild metric. Most importantly, it seems to be fully consistent with a new quantum gravity theory that seems to unify gravity with quantum mechanics.

International audience; We report in this contribution on the development of an analytic model for a selfconsistent determination of the poloidal asymmetry, collisional flux and steady state profile of heavy impurities [1]. The model is compared with nonlinear axisymmetric simulations with the XTOR code [2, 3, 4], and with computations using the drift-kinetic code NEO [5]. An application to Tungsten peaking in the WEST tokamak under Ion Cyclotron Resonance Heating (ICRH) exemplifies the complex balance between accumulation and expulsion forces at play.

International audience; The use of metallic walls as plasma facing components in tokamaks puts severe constraints on the control of impurity contamination. Heavy impurities like Tungsten are of particular concern due to the high level of radiative losses they can induce. Moreover, their high sensitivity to neoclassical transport mechanisms exacerbated by toroidal rotation or electrostatic potential asymmetry generally explains experimental cases of strong accumulation in the plasma core. The poloidal distribution of the impurity modulates the amplitude of this neoclassical transport [Angioni14], with an asymmetry that often leads to enhancement, but that can also result in a reduction of the flux

International audience; The dynamics of fast electrons driven inductively or by resonant interactions with radio-frequency waves is known to be highly sensitive to the presence of impurities in hot magnetized hydrogen plasmas. The possibility to use tungsten for the ITER divertor, thanks to its low tritium retention and high melting temperature, has raised the question of the impact of partially ionized high-Z atoms on current drive efficiency by enhancing pitch-angle scattering but also collisional slowing-down and inelastic scattering. Pioneering work on the impact of the screening effect of partially ionized atoms in kinetic calculations was carried out primarily for the problem of runaway electron mitigation in very cold post-disruptive plasmas [1]. In the present paper, this approach is adapted and extended to regular plasma regimes, allowing to take into account any type of high-Z metallic impurity in the plasma core on the fast electron dynamics and the non-thermal bremsstrahlung. This work has been implemented in LUKE Fokker-Planck solver [2] and the quantum relativistic radiation code R5-X2 [3] and the impact of partially ionized high-Z impurities on Lower Hybrid driven current in the WEST tokamak has been investigated.

The recent detections of electric-quadrupole (E2) transitions in water vapor and magnetic-dipole (M1) transitions in carbon dioxide have opened a new field in molecular spectroscopy. While in their present status, the spectroscopic databases provide only electric-dipole (E1) transitions for polyatomic molecules (H$_2$O, CO$_2$, N$_2$O, CH$_4$, O$_3$…), the possible impact of weak E2 and M1 bands to the modeling of the Earth and planetary atmospheres has to be addressed. This is especially important in the case of carbon dioxide for which E2 and M1 bands may be located in spectral windows of weak E1 absorption. In the present work, a high sensitivity absorption spectrum of CO$_2$ is recorded by Optical-Feedback-Cavity Enhanced Absorption Spectroscopy (OFCEAS) in the 3.3 µm transparency window of carbon dioxide. The studied spectral interval corresponds to the region where M1 transitions of the $ν_{2}+ν_{3}$band of carbon dioxide were recently identified in the spectrum of the Martian atmosphere. Here, both M1 and E2 transitions of the $ν_{2}+ν_{3}$ band are detected by OFCEAS. Using recent ab initio calculations of the E2 spectrum of $^{12}$C$^{16}$O$_2$, intensity measurements of five M1 lines and three E2 lines allow us to disentangle the M1 and E2 contributions. Indeed, E2 intensity values (on the order of a few 10$^{–29}$ cm/molecule) are found in reasonable agreement with ab initio calculations while the intensity of the M1 lines (including an E2 contribution) agree very well with recent very long path measurements by Fourier Transform spectroscopy. We thus conclude that both E2 and M1 transitions should be systematically incorporated in the CO$_2$ line list provided by spectroscopic databases.

Currently,layered materials attract great interest due to their electrical and optical properties. Such crystals display an electronic band structure that strongly depends on the sample thickness.The large tunability of the electronic screening and gap size can be very attracting for the creation of heterostructures whose properties can be designed on demand. We can say that the research field of low dimensional materials has been boosted by the discovery of graphene and quickly has been enlarged to other materials as transition metal dichalcogenides,black phosphorous and Indium selenide.Our work will focus on the excited state dynamics in these compounds,as well as on the evolution of the band structure upon surface doping.The manuscript is organized as follow:Chapter1 provides a general introduction of layered materials.In particular,we discuss the structural and electronic properties of some relevant compounds.Chapter2 describes the principles of ultrafast spectroscopic methods and shows many applications to the case of the layered materials.We mainly focus our attention on the electron dynamics in semiconducting crystals and charge density waves systems. The electron dynamics of layered materials have been investigated by means of time-and angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy (TrARPES),which is a powerful tool to directly map the electronic band structure and to follow the dynamics of the electrons photoinjected via an ultrafast laser source.Chapter3 discusses the experimental technique of choice and the setup where we have been performed in the reported measurements.we begin the discussion of our original data in Chapter4.The TrARPES measurements of layered black phosphorus(BP) monitor the electronic distribution in the conduction and valence band as a function of delay time from photoexcitation.The data show that,after thermalization,the photo-injected electrons do not lead to sizable band gap renormalization,neither do they generate an appreciable amount of carrier multiplication.On the other hand,a Stark broadening of the valence band is ascribed to the inhomogeneous screening of a local potential around charge defects.Chapter5 shows time resolved ARPES data on a BP surface that is doped in-situ by means of alkali metals evaporation. We monitor the collapse of the band-gap in the accumulation layer with unmatched accuracy and we observe that the buried states detected by the low energy photons of our probing pulse acquire a surprisingly high band velocity at large dopants concentration.Chapter6 deals with the modification of hot carrier dynamics upon increasing the surface doping of BP.In this case the reported analysis is still preliminary and needs to be backed by ab-initio calculations.Chapter7 contains our work on layered ɛ-InSe.As in the case of BP,we generate an accumulation layer of varying electronic density on the surface of such semiconductor.By spanning the doping level from the semiconducting to the metallic limit,we observe that quantum screening of Longitudinal Optical phonons is not as efficient as it would be in a strictly bidimensional system,indicating a remote coupling of confined states to polar phonons of the bulk.Furthermore,we show that a 3D Fröhlich interaction with Thomas-Fermi screening can be used to mimic the effects of such a remote coupling at the ɛ-InSe surface.In Chapter8,we study the layered 1T-TaS2.This material belongs to the Charge density waves (CDW) systems and has been extensively investigated by several research groups.In 1T-TaS2,the combination of structural distortion with high electronic correlations leads to a complex and fascinating phase diagram.We could reproduce controversial data that have been recently published in the literature and that identify a new instability in proximity of the metal to-insulator transition.Finally,chapter9 summarizes the conclusions of our work and briefly discusses the perspectives of some future directions of research., Actuellement,les matériaux lamellaires suscitent un grand intérêt en raison de leurs propriétés électriques et optiques.On peut dire que le domaine de recherche des matériaux à basse dimensionnalité a été initié par la découverte du graphène et c’est rapidement élargi à d'autres matériaux comme les dichalcogénures de métaux de transition,le phosphore noir et le séléniure d'indium.Nos travaux portent sur la dynamique des états excités dans ces composés,ainsi que sur l'évolution de la structure des bandes lors d’un fort dopage de surface.Le manuscrit est organisé comme suit :Lechapitre1 est une introduction générale sur les matériaux lamellaires.En particulier,nous discutons des propriétés structurelles et électroniques des composés plus connus.Lechapitre2 décrit les principes de fonctionnement de la spectroscopique ultra-rapides et montre nombreuses applications sur des matériaux lamellaires.Nous attirons principalement l’attention sur la dynamique des électrons dans les cristaux semi-conducteurs ou avec onde de densité de charge.Lechapitre3 illustre la technique expérimentale que nous avons employée et l’enceinte dans lequel nous avons effectuées les mesures.La dynamique des électrons des matériaux lamellaires a été étudiée au moyen de la spectroscopie photoélectronique résolue en temps et en angle,qui est un outil puissant pour cartographier la structure des bandes électronique et pour suivre la dynamique des électrons photo-injectés via une source laser ultra-rapide. La discussion des données originales de notre travail débute dans lechapitre4.Les mesures TrARPES sur le phosphore noir suivent la distribution électronique dans la bande de conduction en fonction du délai temporale par rapport à l’instant de la photoexcitation.Nos données montrent qu'après thermalisation,les électrons photo-injectés ne produisent pas une diminution de bande d’énergie interdite,ni génèrent-ils une multiplication appréciable du nombre des porteurs.D'autre part,un élargissement Stark de la bande de valence est due à l’écrantage inhomogène d'un potentiel local autour de défauts chargés.Lechapitre5 présente les données ARPES résolues en temps sur une surface de phosphore noir dopée in situ par évaporation des métaux alcalins.Nous mesurons l'effondrement de la bande interdite dans la couche d'accumulation électronique avec une précision inédite et nous observons des états enterrés qui sont détectable à cause de la faible énergie de photons dans notre sonde.Ces états acquièrent une vitesse de bande étonnamment élevée quand la concentration de dopants augmente.Lechapitre6 montre la modification de la dynamique des porteurs chauds lors de la variation du dopage de surface de BP.Dans ce cas, l'analyse proposé est encore préliminaire et doit être complémenté par des calculs ab-initio.Lechapitre7 contient notre travail sur le composé ɛ-InSe.Comme dans le cas de phosphore noir, nous générons une couche d'accumulation de densité électronique variable à la surface du semi-conducteur.En variant le niveau de dopage à partir du limite semi-conducteur jusqu’au limite métallique,nous observons que l’écrantage quantique des phonons optiques longitudinaux n'est pas aussi efficace qu'il le serait dans un système strictement bidimensionnel.Ce résultat indique la présence d’un couplage à distance entre les états confinés à la surface et les phonons polaires du volume.Dans lechapitre8,nous étudions le 1T-TaS2.Ce matériau appartient aux systèmes d'ondes de CDW et a été largement étudié par plusieurs équipes de chercheurs.Dans le 1T-TaS2,la combinaison d'une distorsion structurelle avec des fortes corrélations électroniques conduit à un diagramme de phase complexe et fascinant.Nous reproduisons des données controversées qui ont été récemment publiées dans la littérature et qui identifient une nouvelle instabilité en proximité de la transition métal-isolant.Enfin,lechapitre9 résume les conclusions de nos résultats et aborde brièvement les orientations de recherche à venir.

The field of chiro-plasmonics has developed significantly in recent years. In order to better understand the interplay between the geometry of nanosystems and their intrinsic chirality, we have developed a new experimental set-up for polarization modulation spectroscopy. The developped set-up allows to study optical anisotropies (linear and circular dichroisms, linear birefringence, rotatory power) of individual nanostructures. This is illustrated through two studies of anisotropic nanoparticles. The first study allowed the characterization of the optical anisotropy of dimers of gold spheres. The correlation carried out with electron microscopy was able to demonstrate the efficiency of the new experimental set-up. In a second step, we performed a study of the optical anisotropy of 2D chiral nanosystems which showed the ability of the set-up to measure chiroptic effects at the scale of individual nanoparticles, Le domaine de la chiro-plasmonique s'est largement développé ces dernières années. Dans l'objectif de mieux comprendre les liens étroits entre la géométrie de nano-systèmes et leur chiralité intrinsèque, nous avons développé au cours de ce travail un nouveau dispositif expérimental de spectroscopie à modulation de polarisation. Ce dispositif permet aujourd'hui d'étudier l'anisotropie optique (dichroïsmes linéaires et circulaires, biréfringence linéaire, pouvoir rotatoire) de nanostructures individuelles et cela est illustré à travers deux études de nanoparticules anisotropes. La première étude a permis la caractérisation de l'anisotropie optique de dimères de sphères d'or. La corrélation réalisée avec de la microscopie électronique a pu démontrer l'efficacité du nouveau dispositif expérimental. Dans un second temps, nous avons réalisé une étude de l'anisotropie optique de nano-systèmes chiraux 2D qui a montré la capacité du dispositif à mesurer des effets chiroptiques à l'échelle de nanoparticules individuelles

The topic of this thesis is the development of charged particle sources (ions or electrons) whose energy resolution, position and time approach the limits permitted by physic laws. The idea is to use the sensitive detection in time and position for one of the two correlated charged particles produced by the photoionization of an cold atoms cloud, to correct in real time the 3D trajectory of the particle partner to know as thinly as possible its spatiotemporal characteristics. The project aims to create, from the ionization of cesium atoms cooled by laser, a new type of ion or electron source allowing a better beam. We can now consider new experiences based on the unique control of charged particles and thus overpass the Coulomb repulsion effects that degrades the common sources.The ultimate goal is to be able to depose an ion or an electron on a surface with the speed, position and time characteristics never reached. Some applications in ions implantation are expected (lithography). In terms of trajectory correction it could allow a full control of time, position and velocity of ions reaching the target. A further increase of the flow is already considered for purposes of imaging (real-time processing of time-position data). The project presented here is now part of a larger project: an ion source based on this concept is under study with the Orsay Physics Company specialized in the design and manufacture of columns Focused ion beam (FIB)., L’objet de cette thèse consiste en un développement de sources de particules chargées (ions ou électrons) dont la résolution en énergie, position et temps approchent les limites permises par les lois physiques. Le principe est d’utiliser la détection sensible en temps et position pour l’une des deux particules chargées corrélées, produites par photoionisation d’un nuage d’atomes froids, pour corriger en temps réel la trajectoire 3D de la particule partenaire afin d’en maîtriser le plus finement possible les caractéristiques spatio-temporelles. Le projet a pour but de créer, à partir de l’ionisation d’atomes de césium refroidis par laser, un nouveau type de source d’ions et d’électrons permettant une meilleure focalisation des faisceaux. Ce travail permet d’envisager de nouvelles expériences basées sur le contrôle de particules chargées uniques et ainsi de s’affranchir des effets de répulsion coulombienne dégradant les sources actuelles.Le but ultime étant d’arriver à déposer sur une surface un ion ou un électron avec des caractéristiques de vitesse, de position et de temps d’une précision jamais atteinte jusque-là. Des applications évidentes en implantation d’ions sont envisagées (lithographie). Les potentialités de ce dispositif en termes de correction de trajectoire ouvrent la voie d’un contrôle total du temps, de la position et de la vitesse d’arrivée des ions sur la cible. Une augmentation du flux est déjà envisagée, en vue d’application d’imagerie, en améliorant la vitesse de traitement en temps réel des informations temps/position des électrons.Le projet présenté ici s’inscrit désormais dans un projet plus vaste : une source d’ions basée sur ce principe est en cours d’étude avec la société Orsay Physics spécialisée dans la conception et la fabrication de colonnes à faisceaux d’ions focalisés (FIB).

The topic of the thesis I investigated since November 2017 (ANR project) is called: « Optical & Terahertz signature of vegetal, study at the sunflower leaf scale ». In a whole world climate changing context, we focus on varietal selection of food plants issue facing water stress conditions. In the near future, lack of water resources in several places all around the world will oblige us to improve deeply agronomic yield efficiency. This could be improved by new technologies and technics based on physic principles. For few decades now, numerous works mixing these two domains has been performed and published. They allowed to develop new kind of agronomy, more precise and effective. Study we present in this work has been performed in this state of mind. However, contrary to the new optical agronomic tools, we investigated at the sunflower leaf scale. The opto-geometricals properties could bring relevant information with respect to this topic. The first step would be to get more familiar with the vegetal living tissue we work with. Different well-known technics have been used to probe the leaf like spectroscopy, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), angular scattering, classic microscopy and speckle pattern study. Next step of this work is about numerical reconstruction of the internal architecture of a leaf. As a dicotyledonous plant, thickness of a leaf is organized as a stack of layers. Each layer has its own physiologic and morphologic properties linked with their functionality. In order to probe this structure, we enlightened it with Terahertz pulse which contains large wavelengths and allows measurements to avoid scattering phenomenon. Hence, we have been able to rebuilt the internal leaf structure by analyzing the Terahertz light deformations in time domain thanks to a reverse engineering technique. The results emphasize for the first time and in a non-destructive way, the internal geometry and the optical indices of the layers composing the leaf structure (trichomes, cuticles, mesophyll). These first unpublished results which need to be reinforced by larger measurements campaign, promote to continue in this way. Such fast parameters estimation of an internal leaf organization could lead to new techniques and may strongly interest agronomists. Therefore, this work offers a real potential research direction since it provides new observable containing information which could be crucial for phenotyping., Le sujet de thèse que j'ai investi dans le cadre du projet OptiPAG depuis novembre 2017 (projet ANR) s'intitule : « Signature optique et terahertz des végétaux, étude à l'échelle de la feuille de tournesol ». Plus précisément, dans un contexte de changement climatique à grande échelle, on s'intéresse à la problématique de la sélection variétale des espèces végétales alimentaires vis-à-vis de leur résistance au stress hydrique. Dans un futur proche, le manque local de ressources en eau dans certaines régions du globe nous obligera à améliorer considérablement l'efficacité des rendements agricoles et ceci notamment par le biais de nouvelles techniques de phénotypage basées sur des principes optiques/physiques. Depuis quelques décennies maintenant, de nombreuses études à cheval entre ces deux domaines ont été publiées et ont permis de développer une agronomie plus précise et plus efficace. Les travaux que nous avons menés ont été réalisés dans cet état d'esprit. Cependant, contrairement aux nouveaux outils d'agronomie de précision, nous avons souhaité ici nous intéresser aux observables d'une feuille de tournesol, mesures optiques à l'échelle d'une feuille de tournesol en imaginant que ses propriétés opto-géométriques puissent véhiculer de l'information pertinente et robuste au regard de cette problématique. Il s'agit donc dans un premier temps de se familiariser suffisamment avec le matériel végétal en le soumettant à des mesures optiques classiques telles que la spectrométrie, l'imagerie MEB et microscopique, l'analyse de diffusion angulaire, l'imagerie et l'étude statistique du speckle ... La deuxième partie de ce travail s'intéresse à la reconstruction numérique de l'architecture interne d'une feuille. En tant que plante dicotylédone, l'épaisseur d'une feuille de tournesol est composée d'un empilement de couches dont les propriétés physiologiques et morphologiques varient. Afin de sonder cette structure organisée, nous l'avons soumise à un rayonnement THz dont les dimensions en longueurs d'onde, de l'ordre de grandeur des épaisseurs des couches, permettent de limiter le phénomène de diffusion. Ainsi, à partir de l'analyse de la déformation d'un pulse de lumière THz, il a été possible de reconstruire, par reverse engineering, une formule d'empilement cohérente avec l'observation et les a priori dont nous disposons. Ceci donne accès, pour la première fois, à une analyse précise et non destructrice de la géométrie interne des feuilles de végétaux, analyse qui consigne les indices complexes et les épaisseurs de chacune des couches de la feuille (trichomes, cuticules, mésophylles). Ces premiers résultats inédits, qui méritent d'être appuyés par des campagnes systématiques de mesure, encouragent évidemment à poursuivre dans cette direction. Estimer rapidement un ensemble de paramètres optiques et morphologiques traduisant la structure d'une coupe transversale de feuille pourrait particulièrement intéresser les agronomes. Ce travail ouvre donc une direction de recherche à fort potentiel puisqu'il propose de fournir de nouvelles observables physiques susceptibles de transporter de l'information déterminante dans le cadre d'un phénotypage.

After the first demonstration of graphene, 2D materials have attracted tremendous attention in the electronic devices community. Graphene was regarded as a promising material for electronics due to its extremely high carrier mobility. However, graphene is a semi-metal that does not have a band gap in its pristine form, which makes it inappropriate for switching devices in digital logic circuits. More recently new classes of 2D semiconducting materials, such as Transition Metal Dichalcogenides (TMDs), have been found, and it has been shown that stacking layered materials to get heterostructures is a very powerful method to tailor their properties, mixing them, but also inducing new ones. In this context, this PhD thesis work focused on the electronic properties of monolayers of TMDs, graphene/TMD bilayers, and twisted bilayers of TMDs. In order to study such complex structures, we have combined density functional theory (DFT) approaches and simplified tight-binding (TB) models.The first part of this work is to study theoretically the imperfections in the crystal structure, such as point defects, that can strongly modify the electronic transport properties. We analyse the effect of vacant sites on the density of states, the conductivity, and the mobility of single layers of semiconducting TMDs MX2 (M = Mo, W and X = S, Se, Te). The electronic structure is considered within an eleven band-model, which accounts for the relevant combination of d orbitals of the metal M and p orbitals of the chalcogen X. We use a real-space recursion method (Lanczos method) and the Kubo-Greenwood formula for the calculation of the conductivity in TMDs with different distributions of disorder. Our results show how M or X vacancies create midgap states that localize charge carriers around the defects and modify the transport properties.The second part focuses on the electronic properties of van der Waals heterostructures of graphene/MoS2, graphene/WSe2, and twisted bilayer MoS2 through DFT and TB calculations. Plane-wave pseudopotential DFT calculations were carried out with the ABINIT software package using the generalized gradient approximations and local density approximations for the exchange-correlation potential. In order to obtain precise results, we have fully optimized atomic positions, as well as lattice parameters of all studied heterostructures. First-principles calculations show the effect of the interlayer spacing between the graphene monolayer and the MX2 monolayer on the location of the graphene Dirac cone in the band gap of MX2 semiconductor. We further examine the electronic properties with and without optimization of the atomic positions in different bilayer configurations. For that, we studied graphene/MoS2: 4x4/3x3 [4:3], 5x5/4x4 [5:4], and 9x9/7x7 [9:7], and graphene/WSe2: 4x4/3x3 [4:3] supercell geometries, having different magnitudes of lattice mismatch. It turns out that this mismatch is a key parameter, whereas it has often been forgotten in previous studies. Spin-orbit coupling interaction is also included to see how the strong spin-orbital coupling in MX2 may influence the one of graphene.Finally, we investigate the electronic localization in twisted bilayer MoS2. We propose a new DFT-based Slater-Koster TB model to find the band structure of twisted bilayer MoS2 with small rotation angles theta, where the moiré unit cell becomes too large for DFT computations. This allows the first reliable and systematic studies of such states in twisted bilayer MoS2 for the whole range of rotation angles theta. We show that isolated bands appear at low energy for theta < 5 - 6°. Moreover, these bands become flat bands, characterized by a vanishing average velocity, for the smallest angles theta < 2°, thus confirming the existence of moiré flat bands in twisted bilayer semiconductors, as they exist in twisted bilayer graphene., Depuis la découverte du graphène, les matériaux 2D ont suscité une attention considérable dans la communauté des matériaux pour l’électronique. Le graphène est un matériau prometteur par la très grande mobilité de ses porteurs de charge. Cependant, pur, il est un semi-métal sans bande interdite, ce qui le rend inapproprié pour des dispositifs électroniques. Récemment, de nouvelles familles de semi-conducteurs 2D, tels que les dichalcogénures de métaux de transition (TMD), ont été découvertes. Et il a été démontré que l'empilement de matériaux en couches, formant des hétérostructures, est une méthode très performante pour modifier leurs propriétés, les mélanger et en induire de nouvelles. Dans ce contexte, cette thèse a porté sur les propriétés électroniques de monocouches de TMD, de bicouches de graphène/TMD et de bicouches tournées de TMD. Afin d'étudier ces structures complexes, nous avons combiné approches par théorie de fonctionnelle de la densité (DFT) et par modèles simplifiés en liaisons fortes (TB).La première partie consiste en l’étude théorique des d'imperfections de la structure cristalline, telles que les défauts ponctuels pouvant modifier fortement les propriétés de transport. Nous analysons l'effet de lacunes atomiques sur la densité des états, la conductivité et la mobilité des monocouches de TMDs semi-conducteurs MX2 (M = Mo, W et X = S, Se, Te). La structure électronique est décrite par onze bandes, combinaison des orbitales d du métal M et des orbitales p du chalcogène X. Par une méthode de récursion dans l'espace réel (méthode de Lanczos) et la formule de Kubo-Greenwood nous calculons la conductivité pour différentes distributions de désordre. Nos résultats montrent comment les lacunes créent des états d'impureté qui localisent les porteurs de charge autour des défauts et modifient les propriétés de transport.La deuxième partie se concentre sur les propriétés d’hétérostructures de van der Waals bicouche graphène/MoS2, graphène/WSe2 et de la bicouche tournée de MoS2 par des calculs DFT et TB. Les calculs de DFT, à partir d’ondes plane et de pseudo-potentiel, ont été effectués avec le logiciel ABINIT en utilisant l’approximation de gradient généralisées et de la densité locale pour le potentiel d'échange-corrélation. Afin d'obtenir des résultats précis, nous relaxons les positions atomiques ainsi que le paramètres de maille. Ces calculs montrent l'effet de l'espacement entre les monocouches de graphène et MX2 sur la position du cône de Dirac du graphène dans la bande interdite du semi-conducteur MX2. Nous analysons aussi les propriétés électroniques avec et sans optimisation des positions atomiques dans différentes configurations de bicouches. Pour cela, nous avons étudié des super-mailles de graphène/MoS2 (4x4/3x3 [4:3], 5x5/4x4 [5:4], 9x9/7x7 [9:7]) et de graphène/WSe2 (4x4/3x3 [4:3]) ayant des incompatibilités de paramètres de maille différentes. En effet cette incompatibilité est un paramètre clé, alors qu'il a souvent été négligé dans les études précédentes. Le couplage spin-orbite est également inclus pour étudier comment le fort spin-orbite du MX2 peut influencer celui du graphène.Enfin, nous étudions la localisation électronique dans les bicouches tournées de MoS2. Nous proposons un nouveau modèle TB, de type Slater-Koster basé sur la DFT, pour calculer la structure de bande de bicouches tournées aux petits angles de rotation thêta, qui formant un moiré de trop grande taille pour être traité en DFT. Cela permet l’une des premières études fiable et systématique pour une grande gamme des angles de rotation thêta. Nous montrons que des bandes isolées apparaissent à basse énergie faible pour thêta < 5 - 6°. Ces bandes deviennent plates, caractérisées par une vitesse moyenne très faible, pour des angles plus petits thêta < 2°, confirmant ainsi l'existence de bandes plates de moiré dans les bicouches tournées de semi-conducteurs, comme elles existent dans les bicouches de graphène.
