Soumission à Episciences, Mobile ad-hoc social networks (MASNs) have been the subject of several research studies over the past two decades. They allow stations located in a small geographical area to be connected without the need for a network infrastructure and offer them the possibility to communicate any time anywhere. To communicate, stations regularly broadcast their interests in the form of keywords. Stations with a high degree of similarity among their keywords can communicate with each other. However, the coverage of MASNs is limited to a small geographical area, due to the limited communication range of mobile ad-hoc networks (MANET) stations. In this paper, we present an architecture and implementation of hybrid mobile ad-hoc social networks (MASNs coupled to infrastructure networks) of Android mobile devices for information dissemination. Stations can use the infrastructure network to communicate and rely on the mobile ad-hoc network when the infrastructure is not available.Rather than communicating synchronously as this is the case in the similar works found in the literature, in our approach, the stations communicate using a publish/subscribe communication protocol, which is perfectly suited to this type of network thanks to the decoupling in time and space it provides., Les réseaux sociaux mobiles ad hoc (MASN) ont fait l'objet de plusieurs recherches au cours des deux dernières décennies. Ils permettent à des stations situées dans une petite zone géographique d'être connectées sans avoir besoin d'une infrastructure de réseau et leur offrent la possibilité de communiquer à tout moment et en tout lieu. Pour communiquer, les stations diffusent régulièrement leurs centres d'intérêt sous forme de mots-clés. Les stations dont les mots-clés présentent un degré élevé de similitude peuvent communiquer entre elles. Cependant, la couverture des réseaux MASN est limitée à une petite zone géographique, en raison de la portée de communication limitée des stations des réseaux mobiles ad hoc (MANET). Dans cet article, nous présentons une architecture et une mise en œuvre de réseaux sociaux mobiles ad hoc hybrides (MASN couplés à des réseaux d'infrastructure) d'appareils mobiles Android pour la diffusion d'informations. Les stations peuvent utiliser le réseau d'infrastructure pour communiquer et s'appuyer sur le réseau mobile ad hoc lorsque l'infrastructure n'est pas disponible.Plutôt que de communiquer de manière synchrone comme c'est le cas dans les travaux similaires trouvés dans la littérature, dans notre approche, les stations communiquent en utilisant un protocole de communication de type publication/abonnement, qui est parfaitement adapté à ce type de réseau grâce au découplage dans le temps et l'espace qu'il fournit.

In this article, we present the results of the tests of our mobile application intended for the learning of the French language with the concept of SPOC with a methodology of teaching pedagogy by project founded based on MIRTO by using the NLP tools., Les artefacts mobiles sont les objets qui nous entourent de plus en plus dans la vie. Ils nous offrent la possibilité de réaliser des activités en dehors du contexte traditionnel et à notre propre rythme. Dans cet article, nous présentons les résultats des tests de notre application mobile destinée à l'apprentissage de la langue française avec le concept de SPOC avec une méthode de pédagogie par projet fondé sur MIRTO en utilisant les outils TAL.

As technology improves, new kind of devices are given the ability to interconnect to others, thereby shaping today’s networks. Sensors, smartphones, tablets, laptops, desktops, servers, be they organized or not, altogether form the Internet of Things (IoT), the cloud, and the glue between them. All these devices are heterogeneous in terms of hardware (CPUs, memory type and size, network interfaces, etc), software (Unix, Windows, Android, etc) and behavior (mobility, reliability). However they all have in common the ability to perform computations. But in this context of extreme heterogeneity, distributed computing has become even harder, and the tools we use for clusters, grids and clouds cannot be used. A few middleware solutions to distributed computing this is difficult environment have been proposed recently, but these tools address only a limited number of issues, and they can hardly be coupled together to a single usable solution. As a consequence, Researchers most often opt for developing their own solution, or resorting to simulation. At I3S we also did that. Through several Research projects which implied many aspects of cluster computing and IoT, we built a codebase of successful solutions to many problems we faced along the years. Revamped and generalized into the most consistent, efficient and cleanest possible middleware, we now expose it to the Research communities as Idawi: an Open Source Java message/queue/service/object-oriented decentralized overlay network of components designed to meet the conceptual and practical needs of Researchers working on distributed algorithms.

International audience; Rhythm disorders are consistently reported in Parkinson’s disease (PD). They manifest across motor domains, such as in orofacial (oral diadochokinesis), manual (finger tapping), and gait tasks. It is still unclear, however, whether these disorders are domain- and task-specific, or result from impaired common mechanisms supporting rhythm processing (general dysrhythmia). We tested the possibility that an at-home intervention delivered via a rhythmic video game on tablet improves motor performance across motor domains in PD. Patients with PD ( n = 12) played at home a rhythmic video game (Rhythm Workers) on tablet, in which they finger-tapped to the beat of music, for 6 weeks. A control group ( n = 11) played an active non-rhythmic video game (Tetris). A third group ( n = 10) did not receive any intervention. We measured rhythmic abilities in orofacial, manual and gait motor domains, as well as rhythm perception, before and after the intervention. Patients who performed the rhythmic training improved their orofacial and manual rhythmic performance. This beneficial effect was linked to improved rhythm perception only following the rhythmic training period. We did not observe any improvement in rhythmic abilities in the other two groups. In this pilot study, we demonstrated that at-home intervention with a rhythmic video game using finger tapping can have beneficial effects on motor performance across different motor domains (manual and orofacial). This finding provides evidence of a general dysrhythmia in PD and paves the way to technology-driven interventions aiming at alleviating rhythm-related motor deficits in PD.

The pervasiveness of mobile devices equipped with internet connectivity and positioning systems leads us to regard them as a valuable resource to leverage. In this thesis, we tackle the use of mobile devices from a new perspective. We consider the extension of the capacity of the MEC by using the available resources of mobile devices beyond the edge of the infrastructure network. The goal is to leverage their untapped resources to process computation on behalf of the MEC in a distributed way. It is fundamental for the MEC to be aware of its operating environment to rely on mobile nodes. In the first part of the thesis, we have focused on the temporal availability of beyond-the-edge resources. We chose to investigate the co-location of terminals and analyze their persistence in a cell. Then, we turn our attention to task allocation. We shift the focus on the spatio-temporal aspect by quantifying the resources that a cell can provide to perform a MEC task. We estimate the potential amount of computational tasks performed by nodes based on the cumulative presence time in a given cell and a given completion delay. Results provide insight into the possibilities of offloading computing tasks on mobile nodes. Furthermore, it allows knowing the locations where it is advisable to offload tasks and the time duration of tasks offloadable., L'omniprésence des dispositifs mobiles équipés d'une connectivité Internet et de systèmes de positionnement, nous pousse à les considérer comme une ressource précieuse à exploiter. Dans cette thèse, nous abordons l'utilisation des dispositifs mobiles sous un nouvel angle. Nous considérons l'extension de la capacité du MEC en utilisant les ressources disponibles des dispositifs mobiles au-delà de la bordure du réseau d'infrastructure. L'objectif est de tirer parti de leurs ressources inexploitées pour traiter les tâches de calculs au profit du MEC de manière distribuée. Pour pouvoir s'appuyer sur des nœuds mobiles, il est fondamental que le MEC soit capable de connaître son environnement d'exploitation. Dans la première partie de la thèse, nous explorons la disponibilité temporelle des ressources au-delà du bord. Nous avons choisi d'étudier la co-localisation des terminaux et d'analyser leurs persistances dans une cellule. Puis, nous nous intéressons à l'allocation des tâches. Nous mettons l'accent sur l'aspect spatio-temporel en quantifiant les ressources qu'une cellule peut fournir pour effectuer une tâche MEC. Nous estimons le potentiel de tâches de calcul effectuées par les terminaux en fonction du temps de présence cumulé dans une cellule donnée et d'un délai d'achèvement donné. Les résultats permettent de déterminer les possibilités de décharger des tâches de calcul sur des dispositifs mobiles. En outre, ils permettent de connaître les emplacements où il est judicieux de délester les tâches et la durée des tâches pouvant être délestées.

International audience; Weighted voting is a conventional approach to improving the performance of replicated systems based on commonly-used majority quorum systems in heterogeneous environments. In long-lived systems, a weight reassignment protocol is required to reassign weights over time in order to accommodate performance variations accordingly. The weight reassignment protocol should be consensus-free in asynchronous failure-prone systems because of the impossibility of solving consensus in such systems. This paper presents an efficient consensus-free weight reassignment protocol for atomic storage systems in heterogeneous, dynamic, and asynchronous messagepassing systems. An experimental evaluation shows that the proposed protocol improves the performance of atomic read/write storage implemented by majority quorum systems compared with previous solutions.

International audience; Web browsing is one of the key applications of the Internet. In this paper, we address the problem of mobile Web and App QoE monitoring from the Internet Service Provider (ISP) perspective, relying on in-network, passive measurements. Our study targets the analysis of Web and App QoE in mobile devices, including mobile browsing in smartphones and tablets, as well as mobile apps. As a proxy to Web QoE, we focus on the analysis of the well-known Speed Index (SI) metric. Given the wide adoption of end-to-end encryption, we resort to machine-learning models to infer the SI of individual web page and app loading sessions, using as input only packet level data. Empirical evaluations on a large, multi mobile-device corpus of Web and App QoE measurements for top popular websites and selected apps demonstrate that the proposed solution can properly infer the SI from in-network, encrypted-traffic measurements, relying on learning-based models. Our study also reveals relevant network and web page content characteristics impacting Web QoE in mobile devices, providing a complete overview on the mobile Web and App QoE assessment problem.

International audience; The Internet of Things (IoT) enables the usage of resources at the edge of the network for various data management tasks that are traditionally executed in the cloud. However, the heterogeneity of devices and communication methods in a multi-tiered IoT environment (cloud/fog/edge) exacerbates the problem of deciding which nodes to use for processing and how to route data. In addition, both decisions cannot be made only statically for the entire lifetime of an application, as an IoT environment is highly dynamic and nodes in the same topology can be both stationary and mobile as well as reliable and volatile. As a result of these different characteristics, an IoT data management system that spans across all tiers of an IoT network cannot meet the same availability assumptions for all its nodes. To address the problem of choosing ad-hoc which nodes to use and include in a processing workload, we propose a networking component that uses a-priori as well as ad-hoc routing information from the network. Our approach, called Rime, relies on keeping track of nodes at the gateway level and exchanging routing information with other nodes in the network. By tracking nodes while the topology evolves in a geo-distributed manner, we enable efficient communication even in the case of frequent node failures. Our evaluation shows that Rime keeps in check communication costs and message transmissions by reducing unnecessary message exchange by up to 82.65%.

International audience; This work focused on evaluating some machine learning models for their application in e-Health IoT platforms used to detect epileptic seizures. The evaluation is based on two groups of metrics: statistical validation and computational complexity. These metrics determine relevant factors for the models' selection based on the intrinsic efficiency of ML models to detect seizures and their IoT appropriateness to reduce computation and, therefore, energy use. The evaluation scenario defines an EFC architecture with Edge, Fog, and Cloud layers, where the models are deployed initially in the cloud layer for training and validation, to later be deployed in the fog and edge layers for use. Results highlight that GBC and XGBC models present better performance when executed from the cloud; LR, NB and SNN models can be trained from fog nodes, and finally, SLR and MLP can be deployed and used from edge nodes. MLP especially presents a good balance between a low computational cost and a high accuracy in seizure detection.

To support users with disabilities, Android provides the accessibility services, which implement means of navigating through an app. According to the Android developer’s guide: “Accessibility services should only be used to assist users with disabilities in using Android devices and apps”. However, developers are free to use this service without any restrictions, giving them critical privileges such as monitoring user input or screen content to capture sensitive information. In this paper, we show that simply enabling the accessibility service leaves 72 % of the top finance a nd 80 % of the top social media apps vulnerable to eavesdropping attacks, leaking sensitive information such as logins and passwords. A combination of several tools and recommendations could mitigate the privacy risks: We introduce an analysis technique that detects most of these issues automatically, e.g. in an app store. We also found that these issues can be automatically fixed in almost all cases; our fixes have b een accepted by 70 % of the surveyed developers. Finally, we designed a notification mechanism which would warn users against possible misuses of the accessibility services; 50 % of users would follow these notifications.

Modern cities are becoming “green and sustainable” once effective and optimized energy management of resources, gathering, and integration of data from smart energy and building are executed. The integration of heterogeneous technologies, and devices, require an interoperable solution to describe devices and data exchanged.SAREF is an ontology supported by the ETSI SmartM2M standard to achieve interoperability among IoT projects, architectures, etc. that can be extended to any IoT vertical domains such as smart buildings or energy. SAREF can be used to describe data sent through communication protocols or once that data must be processed (e.g., on the cloud, gateways, devices). ETSI does not provide tools yet that support the SAREF ontology to avoid engineers to develop from scratch. We design a SAREF-compliant sensor dictionary which also overcomes SAREF limitations. The sensor dictionary, applied to energy scenarios, is employed by a reasoner to infer meaningful knowledge from sensor data. Online demonstrators are available. The scenarios are also relevant for the Interconnect European-funded project that comprises 50 partners to design interoperable smart building and grids.

International audience; Devices which are used for mobile learning may be different and change over time, but the notion of mobility in all definitions is the only thing that does not change. With the progress in technologies and tools, teaching methods have to be updated too. In this article, the pedagogical and technological aspects of SPOC+ is investigated as a new mlearning platform. In this way, the platform is based on the SPOC, NLP tools and MIRTO project.

The concept of cashier-free shopping started to become popular since 2016. Its goal is to enable customers to avoid checking out at cashiers to save both the consumer's time and the shop owner's cost on staff. Recently there are many commercialized samples deployed worldwide. However, their technology is patented and the key performance is not yet public. Therefore, it is important to analyze their underlying technology from a research perspective to help people understand this area and related work. This survey summarizes existing research work on cashier-free shopping systems and other papers on supporting techniques.

Le présent document synthétise plusieurs travaux de recherche réalisés entre 2002 et 2020, traitant de la notion de contexte sous différents angles. Ces différentes contributions, croisant plusieurs communautés de l’Informatique (CSCW, Ubiquitous Computing, Systèmes d’Information), sont ici discutées, à travers les problématiques abordées et les propositions qui ont été faites au cours des années. Toutes ces contributions partagent une ligne directrice commune, la notion de contexte, qui a été appliquée tout au long de ces contributions sur différents types de systèmes, notamment les collecticiels (systèmes de Groupware) et les Systèmes d'Information. Toutes ces contributions conduisent à une perspective commune, sur une nouvelle génération de Systèmes d'Information, appelée ici Systèmes d'Information Pervasifs, dans laquelle la notion de contexte joue un rôle clé à des fins d'adaptation. Chacune des contributions présentées dans ce document converge ainsi vers cette nouvelle génération de SI, et vers une vision d’une « context facility », dans laquelle le support à la notion de contexte pourrait être vu comme un service offert par les SIP à ses différents composants, quel que soit leur niveau.

Understanding and predicting how humans move within space and time is of fundamental importance for many scientific domains, such as epidemic propagation (e.g., the COVID-19 pandemics), mobile networks, urban planning (e.g., anticipatory temperature control of a home for energy consumption management), or ride-sharing. Yet, apprehending human mobility is intrinsically complex. On the one hand, human movements are constrained by physical presence in workplaces, gyms, or universities, in addition to the involvement in routine and social activities. On the other hand, the large variety of leisure places and the availability of modern means of transportation allow people to break their routinary patterns to discover new places. Understanding human mobility is a longstanding challenge that goes back to the 19th century. Up to the 20th century, scholars focused only on group and migration flows in view of the quality of the leveraged data (Census data or surveys). But recently, with the ubiquity of mobile devices, Internet connectivity, and positioning systems (e.g., GPS system), capturing individuals' daily whereabouts at very fine spatial and temporal scales has become possible. This offers the opportunity to observe and study human mobility at the individual level with an unprecedented level of detail. In particular, the increasing availability of such data has led to ongoing development in the field of mobility research. Nevertheless, the scientific literature on human mobility prediction is oblivious to individuals' tendencies for novelty-seeking, i.e., exploring and discovering new places. Conventional predictors relying on personal geographical data perform poorly when it comes to discoveries of new regions. The reason is explained by the prediction relying only on previously visited/seen (or known) locations. As a side effect, places that were never visited before (or explorations) by a user cause disturbance to known location's prediction. Neglecting novelty-seeking activities at first glance appears to be inconsequential on the ability to understand and predict individuals' trajectories. In this manuscript, we claim and show the opposite: exploration-like visits strongly impact mobility understanding and anticipation.This thesis focuses on exploratory visits in human mobility. It first seeks to unveil the exploratory preferences of the population. Afterward, it evaluates the impacts of exploration-like visits on the theoretical and practical predictability extents. Finally, it proposes an exploration-aware mobility prediction framework that integrates the notion of exploration.Throughout this manuscript, we reveal the existence of three distinct mobility profiles with regard to the exploration activity - Scouters (i.e., extreme explorers who are keener to discover new places), Routiners (i.e., extreme returners who limit their mobility to a few locations), and Regulars (i.e., without extreme behavior). Besides, we show that the novelty-seeking factor is an essential element to consider and should not be overlooked when designing predictors, particularly for specific categories exhibiting high exploration activities. Furthermore, by integrating the notion of exploration in prediction, we demonstrate substantial improvements in prediction accuracy by dint of fruitfully forecasting coarse-grained zones used for exploration activities., Comprendre et prédire comment les humains se déplacent dans l'espace et le temps est d'une importance fondamentale pour de nombreux domaines scientifiques tels que la propagation des épidémies (par exemple, la pandémie du COVID-19), les réseaux mobiles, l'urbanisme (par exemple, le contrôle anticipé de la température d'une maison pour la gestion de la consommation énergietique), ou le covoiturage. Comprendre la mobilité humaine est un défi de longue date qui remonte au 19 e siècle. Jusqu'au 20 e siècle, les chercheurs se sont concentrés uniquement sur les flux collectifs et migratoires au vu de la qualité des données exploitées (données de recensement ou d'enquêtes). Mais récemment, avec l'omniprésence des appareils mobiles, de la connectivité Internet et des systèmes de positionnement (par exemple, le système GPS), il est devenu possible de capturer les allées et venues quotidiennes des individus à des échelles spatiales et temporelles très fines. Cela offre la possibilité d'observer et d'étudier la mobilité humaine au niveau individuel avec un niveau de détail sans précédent. En particulier, la disponibilité croissante de ces données a conduit à un développement continu dans le domaine de la recherche sur la mobilité. Néanmoins, la littérature scientifique sur la prédiction de la mobilité humaine ignore les tendances des individus à rechercher la nouveauté, c'est-à-dire à explorer et à découvrir de nouveaux endroits. Les prédicteurs conventionnels reposant sur des données géographiques personnelles fonctionnent mal lorsqu'il s'agit de découvrir de nouvelles régions. La raison est expliquée par la prédiction reposant uniquement sur des emplacements précédemment visités/vus (ou connus). Comme effet secondaire, des emplacements qui n'ont jamais été visités auparavant (ou des explorations) par un utilisateur perturbent la prédiction d'un emplacement connu. Négliger à première vue les activités de recherche de nouveauté apparaît sans conséquence sur la capacité à comprendre et à prévoir les trajectoires des individus. Dans ce manuscrit, nous affirmons et montrons le contraire : les visites de type exploration impactent fortement la compréhension et l'anticipation de la mobilité.Cette thèse porte sur les visites exploratoires en mobilité humaine. Elle cherche d'abord à dévoiler les préférences exploratoires de la population. Ensuite, elle évalue les impacts des visites de type exploration sur les étendues de prévisibilité théorique et pratique. Enfin, elle propose un prédicteur de mobilité qui intègre la notion d'exploration.À travers le manuscrit, nous révélons l'existence de trois profils de mobilité distincts en ce qui concerne l'activité d'exploration - Scouters (c'est-à-dire les explorateurs extrêmes qui sont plus enclins à découvrir de nouveaux endroits), Routiners (c'est-à-dire les routiniers extrêmes qui limitent leur mobilité à quelques endroits), et Regulars (c'est-à-dire sans comportement extrême). En outre, nous montrons que le facteur de recherche de nouveauté est un élément essentiel à considérer et ne doit pas être négligé lors de la conception de prédicteurs, en particulier pour des catégories spécifiques d’individus présentant des activités d'exploration élevées. De plus, en intégrant la notion d'exploration dans la prédiction, nous démontrons des améliorations considérables de la précision de la prédiction grâce à la prévision fructueuse des zones à gros grains utilisées pour les activités d'exploration.

Cet article est un résumé de travaux portant sur l'exploration exclusive perpétuelle d'une grille finie par un petit nombre de robots aux capacités faibles. Ces robots sont opaques, sans orientation commune et ont une vision à portée limitée. Cependant, ils savent distinguer leur droite de leur gauche, exécutent le même algorithme de manière synchrone et sont équipés de lumières avec un nombre réduit de couleurs. Mise à part cette lumière, les robots n'ont aucune mémoire permanente et aucun moyen de communiquer. Par ailleurs, les couleurs de leurs lumières constituent l'unique moyen de les distinguer. Dans ce cadre, nous étudions l'optimalité en termes de portée, de nombre de robots et de couleurs utilisées. En supposant une portée optimale (1 saut), nous proposons un algorithme optimal en nombre de robots (2) et de couleurs (3). Nous donnons deux autres algorithmes pour une portée à deux sauts : l'un utilise 3 robots et une seule couleur (l'optimal) ; l'autre réalise le meilleur compromis entre le nombre de robots (2) et le nombre de couleurs (2).

The rapid development of 3D scanning technology is a welcome progress in the field of tangible cultural heritage documentation. While active sensors such as handheld Time-of-Flight (ToF) cameras and lidar have recently generated much hype, developments in low-cost imaging sensors have also seen long strides in recent decades. This paper aims to see the potential of videogrammetry for the purposes of heritage documentation. This technique has existed for decades, but we argue that when combined with modern smartphone sensors and proper photogrammetric processing workflow it may present an interesting low-cost solution for 3D scanning. Furthermore, the paper wishes to address the requirement for a certain geometric quality in heritage documentation and how the proposed method may fulfil them. For this reason, comparisons between the videogrammetric result and traditional DSLR close range photogrammetry will be described to determine its suitability for heritage documentation. Results show that using modern low-cost smartphone imaging sensors, a good compromise between geometric quality and overall cost in the context of cultural heritage recording is possible to achieve.

The design target of energy efficiency for 5G networks is at least 1000-fold than the currently available 4G system, while offering higher data transmission rate and very low latency. To evaluate the performance of large representative cellular networks and capture the main factors involved in the energy consumption process, representative and accurate models must be developed. To develop tractable and efficient models, we use the spatial fluid modeling framework and compute the energy efficiency metric. Our model consists of a downlink transmission of an OFDMA cellular network, composed of several base stations and multiple user equipments randomly distributed over the area. An analytical expression of energy efficiency is then derived to study the impact of the major factors involved in the energy consumption process such as fading and shadowing attenuation, cellular coverage type and quality. Extensive numerical simulations were run to compare the results obtained by Monte Carlo simulations and demonstrate the effectiveness and accuracy of the fluid modeling for large cellular networks. The numerical results indicate that user density does not affect energy efficiency. Besides, energy efficiency is more important in suburban environments than in urban environments where the shadowing effect is great, regardless of the cellular coverage type. However, and more generally, micro-cellular networks’deployment offers better energy efficiency than the conventional macro-cellular ones. Besides, we evaluated the effect of the promising Joint Transmission Coordinated MultiPoint (JT-CoMP) technique on energy efficiency, which is significantly improved as the number of coordinated BSs increases. On the other hand, coordination between base stations is only effective for user equipment that is remote from their base station. To resume, our numerical results illustrate the effectiveness and accuracy of fluid modeling, which can be considered a mathematical tool by operators to benchmark cellular networks’energy efficiency., La conception des systèmes de communication dits 5G cible une efficacité énergétique ambitieuse, au moins 1000 fois supérieure à celle du système 4G actuellement disponible, tout en offrant un débit de transmission de données supérieur et un temps de latence très faible. Il est donc nécessaire de développer des modèles représentatifs et précis des grands réseaux cellulaires afin d’évaluer leur performance et d’identifier les principaux facteurs impliqués dans la consommation d'énergie comme l’atténuation de signal, le type et la qualité de la couverture cellulaire radio. Nous avons utilisé la modélisation fluide spatiale pour développer des modèles représentatifs et calculables afin de calculer la métrique d'efficacité énergétique. Notre modèle considère un réseau composé de plusieurs cellules opérant en OFDMA sur les liens descendants, et de multiples équipements utilisateurs répartis aléatoirement. Une expression analytique de l'efficacité énergétique a été dérivée pour prendre en compte les principaux facteurs liés à la communication : coefficient d’atténuation de signal, probabilité de couverture, type du réseau. Des simulations numériques ont permis de comparer les résultats avec ceux obtenus par les simulations Monte Carlo et ainsi, montrer l'efficacité et la précision de la modélisation fluide pour de grands réseaux cellulaires. Les résultats numériques montrent que l'efficacité énergétique est indépendante de la densité des équipements utilisateurs. Par ailleurs, l'efficacité énergétique est plus importante dans les environnements suburbains que dans les milieux urbains où l'effet de shadowing est grand et ce, quel que soit le type de réseaux (macro, micro ou femto). Cependant, et d’une façon plus générale, le déploiement de petits réseaux (small cells) offre une meilleure efficacité énergétique comparée au réseau macro classique. En outre, nous avons évalué l'effet de la technique de transmission conjointe multipoint (JT-CoMP) sur l'efficacité énergétique, qui est considérablement améliorée lorsque le nombre de stations de base coordonnées augmente. En revanche, la coordination entre les stations de base n’est efficace que pour les équipements utilisateurs éloignés de leur station de base. En résumé, nos résultats numériques mettent en évidence l'efficacité et la précision de la modélisation fluide qui peut être considérée comme un outil mathématique par les opérateurs pour évaluer l'efficacité énergétique des réseaux cellulaires.

International audience; Three-dimensional (3D) maps have become a shared digital infrastructure for autonomous vehicles, especially in urban areas. Point Cloud Data (PCD) maps are used for scan matching to enable self-localization. Autonomous vehicles need to maintain PCD maps along with the destination that is often decided on demand and to keep the PCD map updated. In this paper, we propose a system that delivers PCD maps cached at roadside edges in real time. We implement the system in Autoware, an open-source software for autonomous driving. Subsequently, we evaluate whether the autonomous vehicle can simultaneously download the PCD map from its edge and enable self-localization. Our results show that autonomous vehicles can perform self-localization while downloading the PCD map from the edge server. Additionally, we measure the download time with variable bandwidth and examine the bandwidth in which the self-localization normally operates. In our results, the download time of the PCD map at 60 Mbps was 1.16 s at maximum, and it is indicated that 60 Mbps is the deadline for this system to work properly.

International audience; The Diabetic Retinopathy (DR) is a worldwide eye disease that causes visual damages and can leads to blindness. Therefore, the detection of the DR in the early stages is highly recommended. However, a delay is registered for ensuring early DR diagnosis which caused by the low-rate of the ophthalmologists, the deficiency of diagnosis equipment and the lack of mobility of elderly patients. In this paper, the main objective is to provide a mobile-aided screening system of moderate DR. Within this aim, we propose a classifier-based method which is based on detecting the Hard Exudate (HE) lesions that occur in moderate DR stage. A set of features are extracted to ensure an accurate and robust detection with respect to modest quality of fundus images. Moreover, the detection is provided in a low complexity processing to be suitable for mobile device. The aimed system corresponds to the implementation of the method on a smartphone associated to an optical lens for capturing fundus image. The system reached satisfactory screening performance where an accuracy of 98.36%, a sensitivity of 100% and specificity of 96.45% are registered using the DIARETDB1 fundus image databases. Moreover, the screening is performed in an average execution time of 2.68 seconds.

We consider two mobile oblivious robots that evolve in a continuous Euclidean space. We require the two robots to solve the rendezvous problem (meeting in finite time at the same location, not known beforehand) despite the possibility that one of those robots crashes unpredictably. The rendezvous is stand up indulgent in the sense that when a crash occurs, the correct robot must still meet the crashed robot on its last position. We characterize the system assumptions that enable problem solvability, and present a series of algorithms that solve the problem for the possible cases.

International audience; Les communications directes entre terminaux mobiles, c'est-à-dire sans infrastructure, font l'objet d'études et recherches depuis plusieurs décennies. Une pléthore de protocoles basés sur ces technologies ont été proposés et leur faisabilité évaluée. Cependant, à notre connaissance, toutes les évaluations se basent sur des scénarios où les liens sans fil ont un débit fixe : nul s'il n'y a pas de contact entre deux nœuds et un débit déterminé à l'avance lorsqu'une connectivité est possible. Or, nous savons que les capacités des liens sans fil dépendent de beaucoup de facteurs, l'un d'eux étant la distance entre les nœuds. Dans cet article, nous proposons une caractérisation empirique des technologies D2D haut débit disponibles sur Android, via l'API Google Nearby Connections, en fonction de la distance. Nous avons développé une application mobile utilisant ces technologies pour quantifier la capacité des liens D2D. Grâce à ces mesures, nous proposons un modèle permettant d'établir la limite supérieure de débit utile atteignable par rapport à la distance entre deux appareils Android. Ce travail propose une approche réaliste sur les opportunités d'échange durant un contact, en caractérisant les liens via leur capacité de débit utile pour, à terme, déterminer la faisabilité des applications souhaitées.

Mobile edge computing (MEC) allows for the execution of delay-sensitive and context-aware applications close to the end-users while alleviating backhaul utilization and computation at the core network. A recent trend is to extend the capabilities of the MEC using the available resources of end-user devices beyond the edge, such as vehicles. Because of the highly mobile nature of such devices, the beyond-the-edge computing resources available at the time the MEC offloads a task decays over time. In this paper, we propose and investigate the persistence of groups of computational nodes in a vehicular-augmented MEC scenario. The groups are formed according to the time of arrival of vehicles and their co-location within a cell. Through the analyses of two real-world vehicular scenarios in the cities of Rome and Rio de Janeiro. On the one hand, our results show that the persistence is highly heterogeneous, depending on the vehicular traffic density and the time of day. On the other hand, we are able to identify periods during which the persistence is short and periods that show stronger stability – it becomes then possible to schedule tasks to specific time slots depending on the requirements and the expected persistence.

The growing population of older adults gives rise to a need for assistive computing systems that support independent living, to reduce the number of people being transferred to costly care facilities. The goal of assistive computing is to provide context-aware services that assist older adults in all aspects of daily life, for example, monitoring activities such as meal preparation and providing appointment or medication reminders. Despite much progress, the development of assistive services remains a challenge, because of a lack of supporting approaches and tools. This challenge involves: (1) coping with inter-individual variabilities (e.g., home features and user routines and preferences) to deliver tailored services, (2) monitoring activities over long periods of time and (3) enabling care providers and/or professionals in aging to contribute their expert knowledge towardsservice development. This dissertation presents several contributions to this topic. The primary contributions are two iterative methods dedicated to supporting the development of services that monitor activities of daily living (ADLs). Each of these methods is supported by a set of tools for collecting, analyzing and visualizing monitoring data. These tools ensure the agile development of accurate activity recognizers via a stepwise refinement of the analysis of sensor data. The first method, for recognizing ADLs, encompasses the main variations of a target activity by abstracting over descriptions reported by users. Beyond recognizing ADLs, the second method addresses long-term monitoring shortcomings (e.g., sensor failures) and gives health professionals actionable insights into user activities. A final end-user approach is presented, which provides a tool to enable experts in aging to easily define assisted living services in smart homes. The presented methodologies have been applied to an assisted living platform for aging in place, deployed in the home of 140 users. Experimental results show the effectiveness of all the proposed methods. First, the recognition methodology has achieved an accuracy of 80%, rising to 88% when considering the more routinized participants of the experiment. Second, the method for long-term monitoring of ADLs mostly produced the same interpretations as an expert in activity analysis, who manually analyzed the longitudinal sensor datasets. Finally, the findings reveal good usability of the end-user tool, which has been tested by occupational therapists., L’accroissement du vieillissement de la population entraîne l’émergence de technologies informatiques pervasives au service de l’aide à domicile, afin de réduire le nombre de personnes transférées dans des établissements de soins coûteux. L’objectif de l’informatique d’assistance est de fournir des services adaptés au contexte qui aident les personnes âgées dans tous les aspects de la vie quotidienne, par exemple en surveillant des activités telles que la préparation des repas et en leur rappelant leurs rendez-vous ou leurs médicaments. Malgré de nombreux progrès, le développement des services d’assistance reste un défi, en raison du manque d’approches et d’outils de soutien au développement. Ce défi implique : (1) tenir compte des variations interindividuelles (e.g., les caractéristiques du domicile et les habitudes et préférences des utilisateurs), (2) surveiller les activités sur de longues périodes et (3) permettre aux experts du vieillissement de personnaliser les services d’assistance. Cette thèse présente plusieurs contributions à ce sujet. Les principales contributions sont deux méthodes itératives dédiées au soutien du développement de services d’assistance. Chacune de ces méthodes est soutenue par un ensemble d’outils pour la collecte, l’analyse et la visualisation des données de suivi. Ces outils assurent le développement agile de détecteurs d’activité précis grâce à un affinement progressif de l’analyse des données des capteurs. La première méthode, pour la reconnaissance des activités, utilise les déclarations de routines rapportées par les utilisateurs. Au-delà de la reconnaissance des activités, la deuxième méthode s’attaque aux difficultés de la surveillance à long terme (e.g., les défaillances des capteurs) et donne aux professionnels de la santé des indications utiles sur les activités des utilisateurs. Enfin, une approche pour l’utilisateur final est présentée, qui fournit un outil permettant aux experts du vieillissement de définir facilement les services d’assistance domiciliaire dans les maisons intelligentes. Les méthodologies présentées ont été appliquées à une plateforme d’assistance, déployée au domicile de 140 utilisateurs. Les résultats expérimentaux montrent l’efficacité de toutes les méthodes proposées.

International audience; The growth of the Internet of Things (IoT) results in a proliferation of different protocols (ZigBee, Bluetooth, 6LowPAN, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, etc.). Organizations tend to quickly deploy several IoT applications over time and thus face heterogeneous IoT systems, combining different IoT protocols in different places of the overall system. This heterogeneity of protocols makes these networks hard to monitor or control, and some misconfigurations or unexpected device behaviours may even expose users to security issues. In this work, we propose IoTMap. IoTMap provides an iterative graph-based modelling of interconnected IoT with a multi-layers view ranging from point-to-point transmissions to application-type analysis. With this modelling, we aim to highlight the network state at a specific time. It can also be used as the intelligence gathering phase during a penetration testing to evaluate the global network security.

Responses to disastrous events are a challenging problem, because of possible damages on communication infrastructures. For instance, after a natural disaster, infrastructures might be entirely destroyed. Different network paradigms were proposed in the literature in order to deploy adhoc network, and allow dealing with the lack of communications. However, all these solutions focus only on the performance of the network itself, without taking into account the specificities and heterogeneity of the components which use it. This comes from the difficulty to integrate models with different levels of abstraction. Consequently, verification and validation of adhoc protocols cannot guarantee that the different systems will work as expected in operational conditions. However, the DEVS theory provides some mechanisms to allow integration of models with different natures. International audience; The challenges of the Internet of Things(IoT) require applications to deal with large amount of data streaming from small devices into processing, storing and analytical systems. Such one-way datastream can be modelled into a directed graph where vertices are processing units, and edges are data flow con- nections between them. Modern applications are often written as micro-services, where each service focuses on one functional con- cern and exposes one or several APIs over the network, typically using HTTP, web sockets and messaging systems. Services are loosely-coupled and make communications over the network to operate. An appli- cation is then a composition of micro-services interacting with each other. One of the main benefits of this architecture is that services can be scaled independently to accommodate fluctuating workloads, and they can be reused by other services. More recently, the function-as-a-service and serverless paradigms have emerged, where a function is a minimal service unit with very strict functional boundaries, and where developers do not want to be involved with the operational concerns regarding running code. We present Dyninka, a framework for creating distributed dataflow applications based on Kotlin and Kubernetes. Our framework allows the generation of distributed systems using a language approach, providing dynamic service placement, service mobility, and contextual adaptation of the application to its environment. This allows fine control over the evolution of stream-based applications and also add the environment as a dynamic factor of the development process where one component of the dataflow may need to be redeployed on another node to increase performance. Specific service requirements are described by using intelligent placement specification constructs. Dataflows are formed by chaining functions, resulting in linking generated services together. Prototyping is made quick and interactive by making developers write functions in their IDE, test them locally and Dyninka ex- poses them as micro-services in a distributed configuration. Code modification updates micro-services and changes the workflow without having to redeploy the whole application. Communication between services is abstracted, so such boilerplates are removed from the codebase.Experimentation was undertaken to compare our framework on a concrete IoT application example, with a handcrafted distributed application and OpenFaaS platform to compare performance and resilience of the distributed application, readability as well as the size of the codebase.This framework is a first step for the design of new IoT frameworks and languages helping to write context-aware distributed applications. It is an ongoing project and future work will focus on bringing built-in languages constructs specific to dynamic distributed systems. Common orthogonal functionalities like connectors, data producers, logging and security layers can be reduced to language constructs. Future versions aim also to support Apache Mesos and other orchestration technologies.

The massive deployment of connected objects, forming the Internet of Things (IoT), is now disrupting traditional network environments. These objects, previously connectivity-free, are now likely to introduce additional vulnerabilities into the environments that integrate them. The literature today paints an unflattering picture of the security of these objects, which are increasingly becoming prime targets for attackers who see them as new exploitable surfaces to penetrate previously secure environments. In addition, the wireless means of communication used by these objects are numerous, with very heterogeneous characteristics at all protocol levels. Particularly in terms of the frequencies used, which make it difficult to analyse and monitor the environments that are equipped with them. These issues, and in particular the strong heterogeneity of these numerous protocols, call into question the traditional solutions used to ensure the security of the exchanges carried out. However, the explosion in the number of these objects requires security architectures that are adapted to these new issues. In this thesis, we are interested in monitoring and detecting anomalies that may occur in any wireless means of communication used in the IoT. We found a critical lack of solutions with the ability to analyze all exchanges, regardless of the protocol used. To answer this question, we propose a new security architecture based on the monitoring of physical radio signals, making it possible to free oneself from protocol knowledge and therefore to be generic. Its objective is to learn the model of legitimate radio behaviour in an environment using radio probes, then to identify deviations from this model, which may correspond to anomalies or attacks. The description of this architecture is the first contribution of this thesis. We then studied the applicability of our solution in different contexts, each with its own characteristics. The first study, corresponding to our second contribution, consists in proposing an implementation and deployment of our approach in connected homes. The evaluation of the latter in the face of real attacks injected into radio space and its results show the relevance of our approach in these environments. Finally, the last contribution studies the adaptation and deployment of our generic solution to professional environments where the presence of expert users promotes the integration of advanced diagnostic information to identify the origins of an anomaly. The subsequent evaluation and the results associated with each of the diagnostic mechanisms implemented demonstrate the value of our approach in heterogeneous environments., Le déploiement massif des objets connectés, formant l'Internet des Objets ou IoT, bouleverse aujourd'hui les environnements réseaux traditionnels. Ces objets, auparavant exempts de connectivité, sont désormais susceptibles d'introduire des vulnérabilités supplémentaires dans les environnements qui les intègrent. La littérature dresse aujourd'hui un portrait peu flatteur de la sécurité de ces objets, qui constituent de plus en plus des cibles de choix pour les attaquants, qui y voient de nouvelles surfaces exploitables pour s'introduire dans les environnements auparavant sécurisés. En outre, les moyens de communications non-filaires utilisés par ces objets sont nombreux, avec des caractéristiques très hétérogènes à tous les niveaux protocolaires, notamment en terme de fréquences utilisées, qui rendent complexes l'analyse et la surveillance des environnements qui s'en équipent. Ces problématiques, et notamment l'hétérogénéité forte de ces nombreux protocoles, remettent en question les solutions traditionnelles permettant d'assurer la sécurité des échanges effectués. Or, l'explosion du nombre de ces objets impose d'adapter ou de proposer des architectures de sécurité qui soient adaptées à ces nouvelles problématiques. Dans cette thèse, nous nous intéressons à la surveillance et à la détection d'anomalies pouvant survenir sur les moyens de communications sans-fil utilisés dans l'IoT, quels qu'ils soient. Nous avons relevé un manque crucial de solutions ayant la capacité d'analyser tous les échanges, et ce, qu'importe le protocole utilisé. Pour y répondre, nous proposons une architecture de sécurité basée sur le monitoring des signaux radios physiques, permettant de s'affranchir de la connaissance des protocoles et donc d'être générique. Son objectif est d'apprendre le modèle des comportements radios légitimes d'un environnement à l'aide de sondes radios, puis d'identifier les déviations vis-à-vis de ce modèle, pouvant correspondre à des anomalies ou des attaques. La description de cette architecture est la première contribution de cette thèse. Nous avons ensuite étudié l'applicabilité de notre solution dans différents contextes, chacun ayant ses caractéristiques propres. La première étude, correspondant à notre deuxième contribution, consiste à proposer une implémentation et un déploiement de notre approche dans les domiciles connectés. El "crowdsourcing" o ciencia ciudadana, aparece como una opción, y es que debido al dramático ritmo de cambio de la Tierra, necesitamos una recopilación rápida de datos de todo tipo, entre los más importantes los registros ambientales. Esta necesidad, ha provocado que se integren nuevas clases de registros e información y en este caso nacen los registros de ciencia ciudadana digitales (Kays et al. 2019)

International audience; La récente standardisation par l'IEEE du protocole Fine Timing Measurement (FTM), une approche de calcul de distance par temps de vol fondée sur le WiFi, permet de faire le pont entre la littérature très riche sur la localisation en intérieur et l'adoption jusque-là timide par le marché. Cependant, les expériences menées avec les premières cartes implantant le FTM montrent une précision de l'ordre du mètre en ligne de vue directe (LDV) mais qui chute brutalement dans les scénarios où la ligne de vue est obstruée (NLDV). Dans ce travail, nous présentons FUSIC, une approche qui étend la précision du FTM dans ce contexte, sans modifier le standard. Pour cela, FUSIC combine les résultats du FTM et de l'algorithme MUSIC-tous les deux erronés quand la ligne de vue est obstruée-pour restituer une estimation correcte de la distance séparant les deux équipements. Des expériences menées dans 4 environnements montrent que a) FUSIC étend la précision du FTM en LDV aux conditions NLDV-atteignant ainsi son but premier ; et b) améliore significativement la capacité du FTM à fournir de la localisation en intérieur de haute précision.

Mobile edge computing (MEC) concept proposes to bring the computing and storage resources in close proximity to the end user by placing these resources at the network edge. The motivation is to alleviate the mobile core and to reduce latency for mobile users due to their close proximity to the edge. MEC servers are candidates to host mobile applications and serve web contents. Edge caching is one of the most emerging technologies recognized as a content retrieval solution in the edge of the network. It has been also considered as enabling technology of mobile edge computing that presents an interesting opportunity to perform caching services. Particularly, the MEC servers are implemented directly at the base stations which enable edge caching and ensure deployment in close-proximity to the mobile users. However, the integration of servers in mobile edge computing environment (base stations) complicates the energy saving issue because the power consumed by mobile edge computing servers is costly especially when the load changes dynamically over time. Furthermore, users with mobile devices arise their demands, introducing the challenge of handling such mobile content requests beside the limited caching size. Thus, it is necessary and crucial for caching mechanisms to consider context-aware factors, meanwhile most existing studies focus on cache allocation, content popularity and cache design. In this thesis, we present a novel energy-efficient fuzzy caching strategy for edge devices that takes into consideration four influencing features of mobile environment, while introducing a hardware implementation using Field-Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) to cut the overall energy requirements. Performing an adequate caching strategy on MEC servers opens the possibility of employing artificial intelligence (AI) techniques and machine learning at mobile network edges. Exploiting users context information intelligently makes it possible to design an intelligent context-aware mobile edge caching. Context awareness enables the cache to be aware of its environment, while intelligence enables each cache to make the right decisions of selecting appropriate contents to be cached so that to maximize the caching performance. Inspired by the success of reinforcement learning (RL) that uses agents to deal with decision making problems, we extended our fuzzy-caching system into a modified reinforcement learning model. The proposed framework aims to maximize the cache hit rate and requires a multi awareness. The modified RL differs from other RL algorithms in the learning rate that uses the method of stochastic gradient decent beside taking advantage of learning using the optimal caching decision obtained from fuzzy rules., Le paradigme de MEC (Mobile Edge Computing) consiste à mettre les ressources de calcul et de stockage aux « extrémités » du réseau à proximité des utilisateurs finaux. Le terme « edge » désigne n’importe quel type de station de base de réseau. Les motivations pour l’adoption de ce nouveau concept sont principalement la réduction de la charge au cœur du réseau et la diminution de la latence grâce à la proximité des ressources et ainsi améliorer l’expérience utilisateur. Les serveurs MEC sont de bons candidats pour héberger les applications mobiles et diffuser le contenu Web. La mise en cache à l’extrémité du réseau, ou Edge Caching en anglais, est l’une des technologies les plus émergentes connues comme solution de récupération de contenu au bord du réseau. Elle est aussi considérée comme une technologie permettant la mise en place du concept MEC puisqu’elle présente une opportunité intéressante pour implémenter les services de mise en cache. En particulier, les serveurs MEC sont implémentés directement au niveau des stations de base, ce qui permet la mise en cache à l’extrémité du réseau et assure un déploiement à proximité des utilisateurs finaux. Cependant, l’intégration des serveurs MEC dans les stations de base complexifie le problème de la consommation de l’énergie, particulièrement dans un tel environnement qui est dynamique et sujet à des changements au fil du temps. Par ailleurs, la demande des utilisateurs des appareils mobiles est en constante augmentation ainsi que leur expectation d’une expérience meilleure. Sachant que le cache est d’une taille limitée, il est donc nécessaire et crucial que les mécanismes de mise en cache soient en mesure de faire face à cette situation et de proposer des solutions valables et satisfaisants à long terme. La plupart des études existantes se sont focalisées sur l’allocation de cache, la popularité du contenu ou encore la manière de concevoir le cache. Dans cette thèse, nous présentons une nouvelle stratégie de mise en cache écoénergétique basée sur la logique floue (Fuzzy logic). Notre proposition prend en compte les quatre caractéristiques d’un environnement mobile et introduit une implémentation matérielle en utilisant les FPGA (Field-Programmable Gate Array) pour réduire les besoins globaux en énergie. L’adoption d’une stratégie de mise en cache adéquate sur les serveurs MEC ouvre la possibilité d’utiliser des techniques d’intelligence artificielle (IA) et d’apprentissage automatique (Machine Learning) aux extrémités des réseaux mobiles. L’exploitation des informations de contexte des utilisateurs permet de concevoir une mise en cache intelligente sensible au contexte. La reconnaissance du contexte permet au cache de connaître son environnement, tandis que l’intelligence lui permet de prendre les bonnes décisions en sélectionnant le contenu approprié à mettre en cache afin d’optimiser les performances du caching. Inspiré par le succès de l’apprentissage par renforcement utilisant des agents pour traiter des problèmes de prise de décision, nous avons étendu notre système de mise en cache basé sur la logique floue à un modèle d’apprentissage par renforcement modifié. Le cadre proposé vise à maximiser le taux de réussite du cache (hit rate) et nécessite une prise de conscience multiple sure les conditions de web et l’utilisateur final. La méthode d’apprentissage par renforcement modifiée diffère des autres algorithmes par le taux d’apprentissage qui utilise la méthode du gradient stochastique décent (stochastic gradient decent) en plus de tirer parti de l’apprentissage en utilisant la décision de mise en cache optimale obtenue à partir des règles de la logique floue.

Nowadays, the deployment of vehicular communication networks appears as an efficient solution to improve both road users safety and road traffic efficiency. Indeed, vehicular networks could enable the deployment of Cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems (C-ITS). Thanks to C-ITS applications, vehicles could exchange information concerning, for example, road conditions or emergency braking.The operation of many C-ITS applications relies on an efficient geographical dissemination of data: cooperative downloading, obstacle detection, cooperative map creation, etc. So far, this geographical data dissemination has mainly been based on direct communication between vehicles (vehicle-to-vehicle). However, this approach faces limitations when data must be transmitted over large geographical areas: connectivity loss, packet loss, etc. In addition, in recent years, vehicular networks have evolved from an extit{ad hoc} approach to a centralized approach, integrating cellular communication technologies. Therefore, geographical data dissemination could be based on the cellular network, widely deployed and guaranteeing acceptable performance.Thus, in this thesis, we focused on the definition of an efficient and secure solution for cellular-based geographical data dissemination. To achieve that, first of all, we proposed an evolution of the current vehicular communication architecture. Thanks to the proposed improvements, the proper functioning of all C-ITS applications could be guaranteed. Then, we defined a solution, based on a Software Defined approach, to efficiently distribute data geographically. This approach overcomes the limitations of the protocol currently used for geographic data dissemination. Moreover, it guarantees an efficient management of the mobility of terminal devices. Finally, we introduced a new solution to secure software-defined vehicular networks. The proposed approach, using the Blockchain technology, aims to guarantee a high level of security and scalability., Le déploiement de réseaux de communication véhiculaires apparaît aujourd'hui comme une solution pertinente pour assurer la sécurité des usagers de la route et fluidifier le trafic routier. En effet, ces réseaux véhiculaires rendent possible le déploiement de Systèmes de Transport Intelligents Coopératifs (C-ITS). Grâce aux applications C-ITS, les véhicules pourraient échanger des informations concernant, par exemple, l'état de la chaussée ou un freinage d'urgence.Le fonctionnement de nombreuses applications C-ITS repose sur la distribution géographique des données : téléchargement coopératif, détection d'obstacles, création de cartes coopérative, etc. Jusqu'ici, la distribution de ces informations s'est principalement basée sur des communications directes entre véhicules (véhicule-à-véhicule). Toutefois, cette approche présente des limites lorsque les données doivent être transmises dans des zone géographiques vastes : perte de connectivité, perte de paquets, etc. De plus, les réseaux véhiculaires ont évolué, ces dernières années, d'une approche extit{ad hoc} vers une approche centralisée, intégrant les technologies de communications cellulaires. C'est pourquoi, la distribution géographique de données pourrait s'appuyer sur l'infrastructure cellulaire, largement déployée et garantissant des performances acceptables.Aussi, dans cette thèse, nous nous sommes intéressés à la définition d'une solution efficace et sécurisée pour la distribution géographique de données via l'infrastructure cellulaire. Pour ce faire, nous avons commencé par proposer une évolution de l'architecture de communication véhiculaire actuelle. Grâce aux améliorations proposées, le bon fonctionnement de l'ensemble des applications C-ITS pourrait être garanti. Par la suite, nous avons défini une solution basée sur une approche logicielle pour la distribution géographique de données. L'approche considérée permet de surmonter les limites du protocole actuellement utilisé pour la distribution géographique de données. De plus, elle garantit une gestion efficace de la mobilité des équipements terminaux. Enfin, nous avons introduit une nouvelle solution pour la sécurisation des réseaux véhiculaires définis logiciellement. L'approche proposée, utilisant la technologie Blockchain, vise à garantir un niveau de sécurité élevé et un passage à l'échelle important.

The evolution of cellular networks from its first generation (1G) to its fourth generation (4G) was driven by the demand of user-centric downlink capacity also technically called Mobile Broad-Band (MBB). With its fifth generation (5G), Machine Type Communication (MTC) has been added into the target use cases and the upcoming generation of cellular networks is expected to support them. However, such support requires improvements in the existing technologies in terms of latency, reliability, energy efficiency, data rate, scalability, and capacity.Originally, MTC was designed for low-bandwidth high-latency applications such as, environmental sensing, smart dustbin, etc. Nowadays there is an additional demand around applications with low-latency requirements. Among other well-known challenges for recent cellular networks such as data rate energy efficiency, reliability etc., latency is also not suitable for mission-critical applications such as real-time control of machines, autonomous driving, tactile Internet etc. Therefore, in the currently deployed cellular networks, there is a necessity to reduce the latency and increase the reliability offered by the networks to support use cases such as, cooperative autonomous driving or factory automation, that are grouped under the denomination Ultra-Reliable Low-Latency Communication (URLLC).This thesis is primarily concerned with the latency into the Universal Terrestrial Radio Access Network (UTRAN) of cellular networks. The overall work is divided into five parts. The first part presents the state of the art for cellular networks. The second part contains a detailed overview of URLLC use cases and the requirements that must be fulfilled by the cellular networks to support them. The work in this thesis is done as part of a collaboration project between IRIMAS lab in Université de Haute-Alsace, France and Institute for Reliable Embedded Systems and Communication Electronics (ivESK) in Offenburg University of Applied Sciences, Germany. The selected use cases of URLLC are part of the research interests of both partner institutes. The third part presents a detailed study and evaluation of user- and control-plane latency mechanisms in current generation of cellular networks. The evaluation and analysis of these latencies, performed with the open-source ns-3 simulator, were conducted by exploring a broad range of parameters that include among others, traffic models, channel access parameters, realistic propagation models, and a broad set of cellular network protocol stack parameters. These simulations were performed with low-power, low-cost, and wide-range devices, commonly called IoT devices, and standardized for cellular networks. These devices use either LTE-M or Narrowband-IoT (NB-IoT) technologies that are designed for connected things. They differ mainly by the provided bandwidth and other additional characteristics such as coding scheme, device complexity, and so on.The fourth part of this thesis shows a study, an implementation, and an evaluation of latency reduction techniques that target the different layers of the currently used Long Term Evolution (LTE) network protocol stack. These techniques based on Transmission Time Interval (TTI) reduction and Semi-Persistent Scheduling (SPS) methods are implemented into the ns-3 simulator and are evaluated through realistic simulations performed for a variety of low-latency use cases focused on industry automation and vehicular networking. For testing the proposed latency reduction techniques in cellular networks, since ns-3 does not support NB-IoT in its current release, an NB-IoT extension for LTE module was developed. This makes it possible to explore deployment limitations and issues. Avec sa cinquième génération (5G), la communication de type machine (MTC – Machine Type Communication) a été ajoutée dans les cas d’utilisation cibles et la prochaine génération de réseaux cellulaires devrait les prendre en charge. Parmi les autres défis bien connus des réseaux cellulaires récents, tels que l’efficacité énergétique du débit de données, la fiabilité, etc., la latence n’est pas non plus adaptée aux applications critiques telles que le contrôle en temps réel des machines, la conduite autonome, l’Internet tactile, etc. Par conséquent, dans les réseaux cellulaires actuellement déployés, il est nécessaire de réduire la latence et d’augmenter la fiabilité offerte par les réseaux pour prendre en charge des cas d’utilisation tels que la conduite autonome coopérative ou l’automatisation industrielle, qui sont regroupés sous la dénomination de communication ultra fiable à faible latence (URLLC – Ultra Reliable Low Latency Communication). Cette thèse porte principalement sur la latence dans le réseau d’accès radio terrestre universel (UTRAN – Universal Terrestrial Radio Access Network) des réseaux cellulaires. L’ensemble du travail est divisé en cinq parties. La première partie présente l’état de l’art pour les réseaux cellulaires. La deuxième partie contient un aperçu détaillé des cas d’utilisation des URLLC et des exigences que doivent remplir les réseaux cellulaires pour les prendre en charge. Le travail de cette thèse est réalisé dans le cadre d’un projet de collaboration entre le laboratoire IRIMAS de l’Université de Haute-Alsace, France et l’Institut pour des systèmes embarqués et une électronique de communication fiables (ivESK) de l’Université des sciences appliquées d’Offenburg, Allemagne. Les cas d’utilisation sélectionnés de l’URLLC font partie des intérêts de recherche des deux instituts partenaires. International audience; The growth of the Internet of Things (IoT) results in a proliferation of different protocols (ZigBee, Bluetooth, 6LowPAN, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, etc.). Organizations tend to quickly deploy several IoT applications over time and thus face heterogeneous IoT systems, combining different IoT protocols in different places of the overall system. This heterogeneity of protocols makes these networks hard to monitor or control, and some misconfigurations or unexpected device behaviours may even expose users to security issues. In this work, we propose the IoTMap system. IoTMap models interconnected and heterogeneous IoT networks, combining different protocols, by providing a generic stack and a unified packet format. IoTMap builds an iterative graph model where high-level semantics can progressively be deduced, ranging from packet transmission to application-type analysis. As such, IoTMap detects application behaviours amongst devices implementing different protocols, interconnected through a multi-protocol hub. In its current implementation (available at https://github.com/AlgoSecure/iotmap), IoTMap can inspect Zig- Bee, BLE and 6LowPAN networks.

International audience; The realization of vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communication enhances the capabilities of autonomous vehicles in terms of safety efficiency and comfort. In particular, sensor data sharing, known as cooperative perception, is a crucial technique to accommodate vulnerable road users in a cooperative intelligent transport system (ITS). In this regard, open-source software plays a significant role in prototyping, validation, and deployment. Specifically, in the developer community, Autoware is a popular open-source software for self-driving vehicles, and OpenC2X is an open-source experimental and prototyping platform for cooperative ITS. This paper reports on a system named AutoC2X to enable cooperative perception by using OpenC2X for Autoware-based autonomous vehicles. The developed system is evaluated by conducting field experiments involving real hardware. The results demonstrate that AutoC2X can deliver the cooperative perception message within 100 ms in the worst case.

National audience; Dans cet article, nous décrivons l’infrastructure cloud PyCloudIoT. PyCloudIoT s’appuie sur un modèle de cloud computing FaaS pour du calcul numérique déporté vers une ferme de calcul composée de noeuds à capacités restreintes au lieu d’un datacentre puissant. Cette infrastructure vise à tirer profit des ressources inutilisées déployées sur nœuds IoT sans augmenter significativement leur consommation d’énergie et, en même temps, à rapprocher ces ressources des utilisateurs pour réduire la latence, en développant un modèle cloud en bord de réseau.

International audience; Jamming attacks target a wireless network creating an unwanted denial of service. 5G is vulnerable to these attacks despite its resilience prompted by the use of millimeter wave bands. Over the last decade, several types of jamming detection techniques have been proposed, including fuzzy logic, game theory, channel surfing, and time series. Most of these techniques are inefficient in detecting smart jammers. Thus, there is a great need for efficient and fast jamming detection techniques with high accuracy. In this paper, we compare the efficiency of several machine learning models in detecting jamming signals. We investigated the types of signal features that identify jamming signals, and generated a large dataset using these parameters. Using this dataset, the machine learning algorithms were trained, evaluated, and tested. These algorithms are random forest, support vector machine, and neural network. The performance of these algorithms was evaluated and compared using the probability of detection, probability of false alarm, probability of miss detection, and accuracy. The simulation results show that jamming detection based random forest algorithm can detect jammers with a high accuracy, high detection probability and low probability of false alarm.

Distributed solutions dedicated to that end include iterative optimization algorithms involving the computation of the gradient of a given objective function, and its dissemination among the network users. In the context of large-scale MIMO, however, computing and conveying large arrays of function derivatives across a network has a prohibitive cost to communication standards. In this paper we show that multiuser MIMO networks can be optimized without using any derivative information. With focus on the throughput maximization problem in a MIMO multiple access channel, we propose a "derivative-free" optimization methodology relying on very little feedback information: a single function query at each iteration. Our approach integrates two complementary ingredients: exponential learning (a derivative-based expression of the mirror descent algorithm with entropic regularization), and a single-function-query gradient estimation technique derived from a classic approach to derivative-free optimization.

Vast volumes of time series are becoming more common in part to recent research advancements in big data analytics and sensor/monitoring networks. However, tranmission of time series for visualization services can cause serious bandwidth wastage and extensive network delays if there is no efficient data management. Existing work such as M4 aim to solve this problem by providing high data reduction rates through data aggregation and guaranteeing the reliability of visualization results at the same time. However, current work on M4 does not consider verification in a more practical environment; for example experimentation on web-based servers that are openly accessible by users. In this paper, we propose inter-pixel gradient-based M4 (IGM4) for enhancing the existing M4 scheme, and conduct a study to reduce the amount of data and delay without distorting the results of visualized graph. We build user-friendly web-based system to dealing with the data processing technique, and perform test on the empirical environment. Finally, we present the results of performance evaluation through comparison among the original data, M4, and IGM4 reflecting the various kinds of time series and resolutions.

International audience; Vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) messaging is an indispensable component of connected autonomous vehicle systems. Although V2V standards have been specified by the European Union, United States, and Japan, the deployment phase represents mixed traffic in which connected and legacy vehicles co-exist. To enhance cooperative awareness in this mixed traffic, we assessed the special roadside unit that we developed in our previous work that generates required V2V messages on behalf of sensed target vehicles. In this paper, we extend our earlier work to propose a system called Grid Proxy Cooperative Awareness Message to broaden the cooperative awareness message dissemination area by connecting infrastructure using high-speed roadside networks. To minimize delay in message delivery, we designed the proposed system to use edge computing. The proposed scheme delivers cooperative messages to a wider area with a low delay and a high packet delivery ratio by prioritizing packets by their respective safety contributions. Our simulation results indicate that the proposed scheme efficiently delivers messages in heavy road traffic conditions modeled on real maps of Tokyo and Paris.

Basically, it allows the execution of part orall of a mobile application in the cloud. The main objective is to reduce both execution time and energy consumption for the mobile terminals. Unfortunately, even if clouds have rich computing and storage resources, they are usually geographically far from mobile applications and may suffer from large delays, which is particularly problematic for mobile applications with small response time requirements. To reduce this long delay, one of the emerging approach is to push the cloud to the network edge. This proximity gives the opportunity to mobile users to offload their tasks to “local” cloud for processing. An Edge Cloud can be seen as small data center acting as a shadow image of larger data centers. This geographical proximity between mobile applications and edge cloud means that the access delay can be greatly reduced, but affects also higher throughput, improved responsiveness and better scalability. In this thesis, we focus on computation offloading in mobile environment (Mobile Edge Computing - MEC), composed of several edge servers. Our goal is to explore new and effective offloading strategies to improve applications performances in both execution time and energy consumption, while ensuring application requirements. Our first contribution is a new offloading strategy in the case of multiple edge servers. Thenwe extend this strategy to include the Cloud. Both strategies have been evaluated theoretically and experimentally by the implementation of an offloading middleware. International audience; Providing accurate pose estimation over time in various and unknown environments is a key component to the realization of autonomous missions where an absolute positioning system (like GPS) is not available. A lot of work has been done in that field where Simultaneous Localization And Mapping systems (SLAM) are still highly environment-dependent and computationally expensive. However, a major issue in SLAM solutions is the drift that appears in their odometry, due to error accumulation in the successive pose estimates. This may imply significant errors in the environment reconstruction or mission success. In this paper, a Nomadic and Accurate Positioning System (NAPS), based on the collaboration of mobile robots and their mutual sensing, is proposed. The originality and advantage of our solution is to provide a motion capture system with the nomadic ability. The result is environment-independent, computationally efficient, accurate and mobile. The system follows one or several mobile robots (explorers) and provides accurate positioning all along their mission. The NAPS is described as well as its moving process, and its accuracy is confirmed through a series of experiments, validating the whole approach.

International audience; Las alertas ambientales declaradas en Bogotá, los informes mundiales sobre la situación actual del medio ambiente y los efectos de la contaminación sobre la salud de las personas son las principales causas por las que el grupo de investigación GISSIC (Grupo de Investigación en Seguridad y Sistemas de Comunicación) decidiera elaborar un proyecto que pudiera entregar una solución tecnológica alternativa, en tiempo real y a una escala importante.El despliegue de nodos IoT capaces de realizar las medidas de las variables contaminantes que se encuentran suspendidas en el aire se realizará inicialmente en el campus Nueva Granada que se encuentra ubicado en Cajicá y posteriormente a las demás sedes de la universidad Militar Nueva Granada. Los datos recolectados serán enviados a una interfaz de usuario en la que se podrá visualizar el comportamiento de las variables seleccionadas. Estos datos serán públicos para que la comunidad tenga acceso a esta información y pintos de voluntariado podrán acrecentar la red para hacerla colaborativa.La arquitectura que se está desarrollando se compone por sensores distribuidos y una plataforma escalable con capacidades de administración y gestión remota, así como procesamiento en edge computing. La plataforma tendrá la capacidad de integrarse con la plataforma de administración de servicios que se está implementando en el WIRID LAB y las plataformas de Future Internet of Things de INSA en Francia.
