Background: Older and very old persons have an increased risk of traumatic injuries as well as comorbidities and multimorbidities. The standardized workflow in hospitals can increase the occurrence of typical geriatric complications, such as challenging behavior and delirium, which can result in highly complex care situations. The application of advanced practice nurses (APN) is an international response to such challenges. In Germany, the scientifically based development of APN has so far lagged behind the international standard., Method: For this scoping review, a systematic search in the databases PubMed and CINAHL and a supplementary hand search was conducted for the period 2010-2022., Results: Tasks and role profiles for the scope of practice of APN in geriatrics and traumatology already exist in the literature. There is a lack of scientifically proven tasks and role profiles for APN in geriatric traumatology in the literature., Discussion: Based on the current state of research it is not yet possible to derive specific tasks and role profiles for APN in geriatric traumatology. Background/aim: The updated version of the International Association of Dental Traumatology (IADT) guidelines was published online in May 2020 in the form of four papers. They are extensively used in dental trauma education in textbooks, undergraduate and postgraduate programs, and clinical workshops. Hence, this study aimed to assess the impact, global scientific reach, and utilization of these guidelines through altmetric and citation analysis., Material and Methods: The protocol was prepared after an expert group discussion. Dimensions database was used to derive the altmetric and citation data on April 10th, 2023. The data was extracted by using a self-designed pre-piloted form by two authors independently. The citing articles were further categorized into the type of study and the domains and subdomains of dental traumatology. The VOSviewer program was utilized to explore the correlation between the subdomains and the overlap of citations was assessed by creating a citation matrix., Results: A total of 552 citations had been collectively received by the four papers. The highest was seen for the guidelines for fracture and luxation in permanent teeth (FL), avulsion in permanent teeth (AV), general introduction (GI), and primary teeth (PT). Dental Traumatology had the maximum number of citing papers for each guideline. They were from 52 countries with English being the commonest language. Overall, the maximum number of citations had been received in narrative reviews (n = 104) and the majority of cited papers were categorized in the therapeutic domains. The most common subdomain for the papers that cited GI, FL, and AV was "treatment protocols in permanent teeth", while it was "awareness of prevention and emergency management of traumatic dental injuries" for the papers that had cited PT., Conclusions: This analysis highlighted that the IADT 2020 guidelines are globally popular resources, which are widely used by the researchers across specialities and are intended towards clinical application., (© 2023 John Wiley & Sons A/S. Reconstructive surgery's workhorse, the latissimus dorsi flap is increasingly abandoned in favour of fasciocutaneous flaps. The purpose of this study was to analyse the methods used to perform this flap and the evolution of its indications in order to define its current place in traumatology. Forty-four cases were recorded retrospectively from January 2000 to December 2020 at HIA Percy, including 37 cases of free flaps, mainly performed for reconstruction of extensive loss of substance with bone and/or joint exposure. It was also performed in 10.8% of cases for salvage after failure of an alternative reconstruction solution. This analysis confirms the value of the latissimus dorsi flap in cases of significant substance loss in the lower limb, but also in burn patients for functional rehabilitation or to allow early rehabilitation., (Copyright © 2023 Elsevier Masson SAS. Purpose: Social media has become the new information acquisition platform for all content producers. In the current literature, there are no studies examining the content quality and the strengths and weaknesses of videos on Instagram that explain anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries, which is the most discussed topic of sports surgery. The aim of this study was to evaluate the quality, strengths and weaknesses of information pertaining to ACL surgery that is disseminated on Instagram., Method: An Instagram search was conducted from 30 May 2023 to 30 January 2024. The search encompassed six languages (English, Spanish, German, French, Italian and Turkish) and was performed by six different observers. The investigation focused on eight subheadings derived from current literature on the ACL. These subheadings were addressed in Instagram videos, covering ACL biology or biomechanics, injury mechanism, injury prevention, injury evaluation, surgical technique, injury or surgery complications, injury rehabilitation process and return to sport or work., Result: The content was assessed of 127 videos from 127 Instagram accounts, spanning six different languages. Across the review of eight subheadings, the average number covered for the entire group was 3 (range, 0-8). Further analysis revealed that surgical technique was the most frequently mentioned subheading for the whole group (68.5%), followed by injury evaluation (54.3%). Prevention (10.2%) and complications (19.6%) were the least mentioned subheadings. The number of followers showed a correlation with video content quality., Conclusion: Although the video quality scores were found to be moderate, the content often focused on surgery and evaluation subheadings. Background: The study aim was to share our experience in hospital reorganization and management of pediatric traumatology in the early stage of COVID-19 pandemic. We centralized pediatric traumatology supposing a reduction of ER admissions, with increased severity of conditions, and a change in fracture patterns; consequently, we reorganized our structure. The COVID-19 epidemic in Europe has seen Italy as the first focus starting from February 21, 2020. Lombardy has been the most affected area. The initial NHS approach determined a high percentage of hospital admissions that led to early overload of hospitals, and we had to reorganize our structure to face the emergency., Methods: We retrospectively evaluated the admission and treatment data to observe the epidemiological evolution of pediatric trauma during the lockdown ordinance and compared them with the same period in 2019., Results: We found a reduction of 78% pediatric visits in the ER but no decrease in the number of pediatric fractures. We found a rate of pediatric fractures increased by 21.62%: the upper limb fractures being the most representative., Conclusions: Our expectations were confirmed. We believe that the reorganization and the guidelines by us designed have been effective to spare resources and subtract the pediatric traumatology load from those hospitals dealing with an unexpected number of critical COVID-19 patients. Even if we experienced a significant reduction of pediatric admissions to our trauma ER, the presence of a determined number of fractures justifies the necessity of a specialized hub to collect all pediatric fractures.

Orthopedics and traumatology are clinical specialties that require continuous learning and skill enhancement. Traditional teaching methods may not always be sufficient to meet the needs of contemporary learners. This study aims to compare the effectiveness of microlearning as an additional tool in orthopedics and traumatology university courses alongside traditional teaching methods. The study concluded that microlearning significantly improved students' knowledge retention, practical skills, and overall performance compared to traditional teaching methods alone. The findings suggest that integrating microlearning into orthopedics and traumatology curricula can improve student learning outcomes and better prepare them for real-world practice. Conventional or digital radiography is still the basis of imaging diagnostics of the skeletal system in pediatric patients. It is considered the gold standard for diagnosis, treatment selection, and follow-up. In addition, procedures such as ultrasound, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and also nuclear medicine techniques can and should be used. It is advantageous to use trained radiology technicians who are familiar with the handling of children in X‑ray diagnostics. If there is no dedicated pediatric radiology department, it is recommended to follow the guidelines from radiology societies (as low as reasonably achievable [ALARA]) and radiation protection commissions. The present article describes how state-of-the-art tools such as dose monitoring systems and software-controlled image processing and also postprocessing can be used. Purpose: To describe a Delphi consensus for the realization of a structured radiology request form for patients undergoing musculoskeletal imaging., Methods: A steering committee (four radiologists, a rheumatologist and an orthopedic surgeon) proposed a form to an expert panel (30 members, ten radiologists, ten rheumatologists and ten orthopedic surgeons). Through an online survey, the panelists voted on their level of agreement with the statements of the form using a 10-point Likert scale (1: no agreement; 10: total agreement) in a three-round process. A combination of two distinct criteria, a mean agreement level ≥ 8 and a percentage of at least 75% of responses with a value ≥ 8, was deemed as acceptable., Results: The form achieved high median ratings in all the assessed key features. During the first round, all items met the threshold to be advanced as unmodified in the next round. Additional proposed items were considered and introduced in the next round (six items in Section 1, five items in Section 2, ten items in Section 3, 11 items in Section 4, six items in Section 5, eight items in Section 6, ten items in Section 7 and eight items in Section 8). Purpose: Hippocrates, the ancient Greek physician, is considered the father of Medicine; however, his contributions to Orthopaedics and Traumatology have not been highlighted enough. The present historical review represents an effort to present and categorize his work, in this field, per clinical disorder and anatomical region., Methods: The "Hippocratic Corpus" original text was thoroughly studied to identify all Hippocrates' contributions in Orthopaedics and Traumatology. Predatory journals are distinguished from legitimate journals by their lack of adequate reviews and editorial processes, compromising the quality of published content. These journals do not conduct peer reviews or detect plagiarism, and accept manuscripts without requiring substantial modifications. Their near 100% acceptance rate is driven by profit motives, regardless of the content they publish. While they boast a prestigious editorial board composed of renowned researchers, in most cases, it is a facade aimed at impressing and attracting investigators. Furthermore, these journals lack appropriate ethical practices and are non-transparent in their editorial processes. Predatory journals have impacted multiple disciplines, including Orthopedics and Traumatology, and their presence remains unknown to many researchers, making them unwitting victims. Their strategy involves soliciting articles via email from authors who have published in legitimate journals, promising quick, easy, and inexpensive publication. The implications and negative consequences of predatory journals on the scientific community and researchers are numerous. The purpose of this work is to provide general information about these journals, specifically in the field of Orthopedics and Traumatology, offering guidelines to identify and avoid them, so that authors can make informed decisions when publishing their manuscripts and avoid falling into the hands of predatory journals or publishers.

The management of traumatic dental injuries is more a shade of gray than it is black and white because not all treatment procedures used for dental trauma management are fully evidence based. This chapter has highlighted some of the gray areas related to the treatment and outcome of traumatic dental injuries. Significant controversies in the management of luxation and avulsive injuries have been brought out. This review highlights the recent contributions of qualitative research in advancing understanding of dental trauma injury and the barriers and enablers to guide policy for improved patient‐centred care including transitional care. It summarises the common approaches and methods used and outlines the key factors that guide the appraisal of qualitative studies. It highlights the importance of the application of qualitative research methods in dental research to generate rich and detailed data to provide explanations and insights into people's experiences, beliefs and attitudes and the complexity of human decision‐making and behaviour. In the past decade while there have been a growing number of publications of qualitative studies in dental journals, qualitative studies remain a small percentage of the published dental traumatology research. Background/aims: The Preferred Reporting Items for Case Reports in Endodontics (PRICE) 2020 guidelines were published to help authors produce high-quality case reports. The aim of this study was to use the PRICE 2020 guidelines to appraise a sample of 50 case reports related to dental traumatology that were published before the guidelines were available in order to assess various parameters influencing the reporting quality., Methods: Fifty case reports published between 2015 and 2019 and related to dental traumatology were randomly selected from the PubMed database. Reports were assessed by two independent evaluators using the PRICE checklist. Each item received a score of "1" if the manuscript met all pertinent criteria, "0" if it was not reported, and "0.5" if it was reported insufficiently. "Not Applicable" (NA) was assigned to items that were irrelevant to a specific report. The estimated total PRICE score for each case report was computed by adding all the scores, with a maximum score of 47 minus any "NA" scores. Descriptive and Inferential statistics (Student's t-test and ANOVA) were used for analysis., Results: The percentage of case reports that fully met each applicable criteria ranged from 0% to 100%. The percentage of case reports partially satisfying each applicable criterion varied from 0% to 88%. There was a significant difference in scores for case reports published in journals with an impact factor compared with those without (p = .042). No significant difference was observed between the mean scores that compared the period of publication. There was no significant difference between journals that followed the CARE guidelines and those that did not., Conclusion: Several items within the PRICE 2020 guidelines were either not reported or only partially reported in case reports related to dental traumatology prior to the checklist publication. The management of trauma is a significant part of emergency medicine practice, in a context where the number of sports accidents is rising steadily every year, with a total of 430,000 people affected in Switzerland in 2023 according to the Swiss Accident Prevention Bureau. In addition to the physical examination, radiological assessment is a cornerstone of diagnosis. Radiology of the musculoskeletal system is the most frequently requested paraclinical examination in these situations. The consequences of not recognizing radiological lesions may result in short-term consequences (haemorrhagic or neurological injuries) or long-term consequences (chronic pain, functional impairment). Background: Proximal humeral fractures are a relatively common injury in childhood and adolescence, accounting for 0.45-2% of all fractures [2, 18]. Treatment is usually conservative but is still the subject of a scientific debate [9, 12]. In addition to the S1-LL, there are different recommendations for the diagnostics and treatment of these fractures in the literature., Methodology: As part of the 10th scientific meeting of the SKT of the DGU, the existing recommendations and the relevant or current literature were critically discussed by a panel of experts and a consensus was formulated. An algorithm for the diagnostics, therapy and treatment was integrated into this., Results: The measurement of axial deviation and tilt is not interobserver and intraobserver reliable [3]. The age limit for when complete correction is possible was set at an age of 10 years, as the correction potential changes around this age. For diagnostic purposes, well-centered X‑ray images in 2 planes (true AP and Y‑images without thoracic parts) is defined as the standard. At the age of less than 10 years, any malposition can be treated conservatively with Gilchrist bandaging for 2-3 weeks. Surgery can only be indicated in individual cases, e.g., in the event of severe pain or the need for rapid weight bearing. An ad latus displacement of more than half the shaft width should not be tolerated over the age of 10 years. Due to the variance in the measurement results, it is not possible to recommend surgical treatment depending on the extent of the ad axim dislocation. As a guideline, the greater the dislocation and the closer the child is to growth joint closure, the more likely surgical treatment is indicated. The development should be taken into account. The gold standard is retrograde, radial and unilateral ESIN osteosynthesis using two intramedullary nails. Osteosynthesis does not require immobilization. A follow-up X‑ray is planned for unstable fractures without osteosynthesis after 1 week, otherwise optional for documentation of consolidation after 4-6 weeks, e.g., if sports clearance is to be granted and before metal removal (12 weeks)., Conclusion: Recommendations for surgical indications based on the extent of tilt are not reproducible and seem difficult in view of the current literature [3, 9, 12]. Three-dimensional (3D) printing has gained popularity across various domains but remains less integrated into medical surgery due to its complexity. Existing literature primarily discusses specific applications, with limited detailed guidance on the entire process. The methodological details of converting Computed Tomography (CT) images into 3D models are often found in amateur 3D printing forums rather than scientific literature. To address this gap, we present a comprehensive methodology for converting CT images of bone fractures into 3D-printed models. This involves transferring files in Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) format to stereolithography format, processing the 3D model, and preparing it for printing. Our methodology outlines step-by-step guidelines, time estimates, and software recommendations, prioritizing free open-source tools. We also share our practical experience and outcomes, including the successful creation of 72 models for surgical planning, patient education, and teaching. Although there are challenges associated with utilizing 3D printing in surgery, such as the requirement for specialized expertise and equipment, the advantages in surgical planning, patient education, and improved outcomes are evident. Introduction: Authors submitting to Orthopaedics & Traumatology: Surgery & Research (OTSR) must fulfill the criteria of scientific integrity (SI), including issues of plagiarism and disclosure of interest. These data have not been assessed for OTSR and we therefore conducted a retrospective study of (1) potential plagiarism rates, (2) deficient disclosure of interest (for French authors), and (3) correlation between the two., Hypothesis: Suspected plagiarism rates exceed 20% and the non-disclosure rate exceeds 80%., Material and Methods: We analyzed 1 year's submissions to OTSR: January 24, 2022 to January 23, 2023. Articles were checked for plagiarism, using iThenticate software (Turnitin, Oakland, CA, USA), with a threshold of > 20% matching. Conflicts of interest, for French authors, investigated on the French Ministry of Health Transparence website (www.transparence.sante.gouv.fr), with non-disclosure defined by undeclared amounts exceeding €1000., Results: In total, 851 submissions were analyzed. iThenticate identified 152 (17.7%) with > 20% matching to an already published article. This likely plagiarism varied (p<0.01) between geographic origins of submissions. In the 289 submissions by French authors, there were 275 (95%) failures to report amounts exceeding €1000. Combined non-disclosure and plagiarism was found in only 3 articles submitted by French authors (3/289: 1.03%)., Discussion: OTSR applies the Recommendations for the Conduct, Reporting, Editing and Publication of Scholarly Work in Medical Journals (www.icmje.org), adheres to the guidelines of the Committee On Publication Ethics (COPE) and the French Health Authority (HAS), and has an ethics committee. Plagiarism is a major SI breach, suspected in 20% of submissions. Also, 95% of French authors failed to properly disclose their interests on submitting an article, although this declaration is mandatory in France and is an integral aspect of SI. There are also other forms of misconduct, such as failure to comply with the French "Jardé" law on research involving human subjects, failure to obtain review board approval, unjustified claims to authorship or deficient archiving, that were not analyzed here., Conclusions: Although overall plagiarism rates were under 20% for submissions to OTSR, some geographic areas were more concerned than others. Also, despite reminders by the editorial board, only 5% of French authors made full disclosures; this is a major breach of SI, requiring correction on the part of French authors., Level of Evidence: IV; retrospective study., (Copyright © 2023. Background: There is a paucity of data in the literature regarding negative articles concerning surgery in orthopedics and trauma. Knowledge pertaining to treatments or techniques which confer a beneficial effect remains important, as does knowledge regarding those which have a null or pejorative effect. Thus, this study was carried out on negative articles in order to: (1) determine their proportion in the ten predominant journals concerning orthopedic and trauma surgery; (2) assess variability in their publication rate depending on the journal and the year, and compare their citation rate to that of positive articles; (3) specify whether a positive article was more likely to be cited compared to a negative article; (4) carry out the same bibliometric analysis with the "Orthopedics & Traumatology: Surgery & Research (OTSR)" journal, and detect possible selection bias for negative articles during the review., Hypothesis: There are fewer negative articles than positive articles in the literature relating to orthopedic and trauma surgery., Material and Method: The study was carried out using the ten orthopedic and trauma surgery journals with the highest impact factors for the year 2021. Two periods were compared, 2009-2010 and 2019-2020. Among the 17,812 publications obtained, 11,962 publications were retained to carry out the analysis (technical notes, meta-analyses, editorials and letters to the editor were all excluded). An analysis using the same method was carried out on the 3,727 articles submitted to OTSR from 2015 to 2021, which made it possible to compare the rejected articles to the accepted articles., Results: Negative articles represented 11% (1,342/12,023) of the literature relating to orthopedic and trauma surgery. There were differences in the rate of publication of negative articles depending on the journals (from 4.04% to 17.14%) (p<0.0001). The negative article publication rate did not change between the two periods studied: 534/4963 articles (10.76%) in 2009-2010 versus 802/6999 (11.46%) in 2019-2020 (p=0.23). Positive articles were not cited more often than negative ones: no significant difference between the Category Normalized Citation Impact (CNCI) classes (respectively for classes 0;1[/[1;2[/≥ 2 with 45.66% 28.22% and 26.12% for negative articles versus 44.90% 27.46% and 27.64% for positive articles [p=0.4]) and the Top10% (with 18.86% for negative articles versus 20.10% for positive ones [p=0.28]). The OTSR journal had a rate of negative articles of 9.46% which was within the average range of the journals studied. A selection bias (p<0.02) for negative articles during the review of the OTSR journal was identified with fewer negative articles accepted (115/1216 [9.46%]) than positive articles (164/1330 [12.33%])., Discussion: The publication of negative articles varies according to the journals and although it is modest, at only 11%, it is essential because it allows us not to repeat errors but also not to bias the carrying out of meta-analyses, and among other things to avoid useless studies., Level of Evidence: III; case control study from the literature., (Copyright © 2023 Elsevier Masson SAS. Background: The use of artificial intelligence (AI) is soaring, and the launch of ChatGPT in November 2022 has accelerated this trend. This "chatbot" can generate complete scientific articles, with risk of plagiarism by mining existing data or downright fraud by fabricating studies with no real data at all. There are tools that detect AI in publications, but to our knowledge they have not been systematically assessed for publication in scientific journals. We therefore conducted a retrospective study on articles published in Orthopaedics & Traumatology: Surgery & Research (OTSR): firstly, to screen for AI-generated content before and after the publicized launch of ChatGPT; secondly, to assess whether AI was more often used in some countries than others to generate content; thirdly, to determine whether plagiarism rate correlated with AI-generation, and lastly, to determine whether elements other than text generation, and notably the translation procedure, could raise suspicion of AI use., Hypothesis: The rate of AI use increased after the publicized launch of ChatGPT v3.5 in November 2022., Material and Methods: In all, 425 articles published between February 2022 and September 2023 (221 before and 204 after November 1, 2022) underwent ZeroGPT assessment of the level of AI generation in the final English-language version (abstract and body of the article). Two scores were obtained: probability of AI generation, in six grades from Human to AI; and percentage AI generation. Plagiarism was assessed on the Ithenticate application at submission. Articles in French were assessed in their English-language version as translated by a human translator, with comparison to automatic translation by Google Translate and DeepL., Results: AI-generated text was detected mainly in Abstracts, with a 10.1% rate of AI or considerable AI generation, compared to only 1.9% for the body of the article and 5.6% for the total body+abstract. Analysis for before and after November 2022 found an increase in AI generation in body+abstract, from 10.30±15.95% (range, 0-100%) to 15.64±19.8% (range, 0-99.93) (p < 0.04; NS for abstracts alone). AI scores differed between types of article: 14.9% for original articles and 9.8% for reviews (p<0.01). The highest rates of probable AI generation were in articles from Japan, China, South America and English-speaking countries (p<0.0001). Plagiarism rates did not increase between the two study periods, and were unrelated to AI rates. On the other hand, when articles were classified as "suspected" of AI generation (plagiarism rate ≥ 20%) or "non-suspected" (rate<20%), the "similarity" score was higher in suspect articles: 25.7±13.23% (range, 10-69%) versus 16.28±10% (range, 0-79%) (p < 0.001). In the body of the article, use of translation software was associated with higher AI rates than with a human translator: 3.5±5% for human translators, versus 18±10% and 21.9±11% respectively for Google Translate and DeepL (p < 0.001)., Discussion: The present study revealed an increasing rate of AI use in articles published in OTSR. AI grades differed according to type of article and country of origin. Use of translation software increased the AI grade. Introduction: There has been an unprecedented rise is the use of artificial intelligence (AI) amongst medical fields. Recently, a dialogue agent called ChatGPT (Generative Pre-trained Transformer) has grown in popularity through its use of large language models (LLM) to clearly and precisely generate text on demand. However, the impact of AI on the creation of scientific articles is remains unknown. A retrospective study was carried out with the aim of answering the following questions: identify the presence of text generated by LLM before and after the increased usage of ChatGPT in articles submitted in OTSR; determine if the type of article, the year of submission, and the country of origin, influenced the proportion of text generated, at least in part by AI., Material and Methods: A total of 390 English articles were submitted to OTSR in January, February and March 2022 (n=204) and over the same months of 2023 (n=186) were analyzed. All articles were analyzed using the ZeroGPT tool, which provides an assumed rate of AI use expressed as a percentage. A comparison of the average rate of AI use was carried out between the articles submitted in 2022 and 2023. This comparison was repeated keeping only the articles with the highest percentage of suspected AI use (greater than 10 and 20%). A secondary analysis was carried out to identify risk factors for AI use., Results: The average percentage of suspected LLM use in the entire cohort was 11%±6, with 160 articles (41.0%) having a suspected AI rate greater than 10% and 61 (15.6%) with an assumed AI rate greater than 20%. A comparison between articles submitted in 2022 and 2023 revealed a significant increase in the use of these tools after the launch of ChatGPT 3.5 (9.4% in 2022 and 12.6% in 2023 [p=0.004]). The number of articles with suspected AI rates of greater than 10 and 20% were significantly higher in 2023: >10%: 71 articles (34.8%) versus 89 articles (47.8%) (p=0.008) and >20%: 21 articles (10.3%) versus 40 articles (21.5%) (p=0.002). A risk factor analysis for LLLM use, demonstrated that authors of Asian geographic origin, and the submission year 2023 were associated with a higher rate of suspected AI use. An AI rate >20% was associated to Asian geographical origin with an odds ratio of 1.79 (95% CI: 1.03-3.11) (p=0.029), while the year of submission being 2023 had an odds ratio of 1.7 (95% CI: 1.1-2.5) (p=0.02)., Conclusion: This study highlights a significant increase in the use of LLM in the writing of articles submitted to the OTSR journal after the launch of ChatGPT 3.5. The increasing use of these models raises questions about originality and plagiarism in scientific research. Introduction: Elderly persons have an increased risk for negative health-related outcomes, including higher mortality rates. A centre for geriatric traumatology was established in a German-speaking Swiss hospital to provide more specialised, person-centred care and to lower negative health outcomes. Adaptations and changes in the patient pathway were made by implementing fast-track and person-centred care to better address individual needs., Methods: The current patient pathway was analysed by an interprofessional and interdisciplinary geriatric traumatology expert team. The practice development methodology and the Person-Centred Practice Framework (PCP-Framework) were used throughout this engagement process. In consensus within the expert team, the sample was defined as elderly persons aged 65 years or older with suspected hip joint closed fractures. The focus was on three elements of "practice environment" from the PCP-Framework. These were: (1) supportive organisational systems; (2) the physical environment; (3) appropriate skill mix., Results: Several adaptations and changes were made addressing the three elements of "practice environment". These were for example: (1) use of specific assessments, shared decision-making; (2) proper and effective use of aids; (3) integration of Advanced Practice Nurses. The adaptations in the patient pathway were integrated into the standard operating procedures., Conclusions: Through active engagement with the practice development methodology and the focus on person-centredness, the process of care for elderly persons was adapted. Thus, by addressing individual needs, fast-track and person-centred care in geriatric traumatology is provided. This review summarises the most recent data on the clinical significance of vitamin D in adult orthopaedics and traumatology. It covers practical aspects of vitamin D supplementation, along with their pathophysiological and epidemiological rationale. Special attention is given to the association between low vitamin D status and worse postoperative outcomes.

Ultrasound (US) has numerous applications in sports traumatology. The technical progress of mobile US devices has led to increasing use of ultrasound as a primary diagnostic tool. New applications such as elastography and 3 D vascularization are used for special indications.The purpose of this review is to present the current status of ultrasound in the diagnosis of sports injuries and sport traumatology including established applications and new technical advances. US is presented both in its comparison to other imaging modalities and as a sole diagnostic tool.US can be used for initial diagnosis to improve the clinical examination and for intensive shortterm follow-up imaging. The main areas of application are currently the diagnosis of acute muscle and tendon injuries as well as overuse injuries. In particular, the exclusion of structural muscle injuries can be adequately ensured with US in the majority of anatomical regions. The recently published guideline on fracture ultrasound has strengthened the clinical evidence in this area, especially in comparison to conventional radiography and in the development of algorithms and standards.
