The current study explored how young females who compete in aesthetic sports adopt self-presentation strategies on social media. Data from semi-structured interviews with 10 collegiate female trampolinists (aged 19–24 years) were analyzed through reflective thematic analysis, and six themes were generated; self-analysis, the best you, emotional consequences, judgment, social media perceptions, and acceptance. Framed around these themes, creative nonfiction techniques were employed to present the results as an ethnodrama. Findings illustrated how participants demonstrated a high need to present their "best self", as failure to do so results in fear of judgment, extreme self-criticism, and, subsequently, post-prevention. Moreover, participants used upward social comparisons, and when they felt they did not match the 'thin ideal', often made negative associations between weight gain and attractiveness. This study contributes to body image literature by demonstrating a more detailed understanding of how social media influences one's need to alter their self-presentation to fit in with highly pressured societal ideals. In addition, the ethnodrama provides an educational tool to stimulate reflection about the extremity of this issue in today's modern world. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study was designed to investigate the effect of ability on technique in the forward somersault with half twist (Barani) and the forward somersault with one and one half twists (Rudi) on the trampoline. Eleven trampolinists ranging in ability from elite (national representative) to early intermediate (regional representative) were analyzed using three-dimensional analysis techniques. Cumulative twist angle, rate of twist, angle of tilt of the twist axis, chest rotation, hip angle, and hip lateral flexion angle were measured. Characteristics of the arm actions were also assessed using an internal frame of reference. To generate twist in the Baranis, trampolinists tilted the axis between 5° and 14°; the amount of tilt was inversely related to ability (p < .05). In the Rudis, subjects tilted the axis between 15° and 23° using more asymmetrical arm actions and larger and more rapid hip extensions, hip lateral flexions, and chest rotations than in the Baranis. The article presents a study researching the effectiveness of visualization on the learning of a physical skill and the influence of imagery on performance. The study examined novice and experienced trampolinists. The study found that imagery is an effective tool for motor learning, especially for experienced athletes.

An angle-driven computer simulation model of aerial movement was used to determine the maximum amount of twist that could be produced in the second somersault of a double somersault on trampoline using asymmetrical movements of the arms and hips. Lower bounds were placed on the durations of arm and hip angle changes based on performances of a world trampoline champion whose inertia parameters were used in the simulations. The limiting movements were identified as the largest possible odd number of half twists for forward somersaulting takeoffs and even number of half twists for backward takeoffs. Simulations of these two limiting movements were found using simulated annealing optimisation to produce the required amounts of somersault, tilt and twist at landing after a flight time of 2.0 s. Additional optimisations were then run to seek solutions with the arms less adducted during the twisting phase. It was found that 3½ twists could be produced in the second somersault of a forward piked double somersault with arms abducted 8° from full adduction during the twisting phase and that three twists could be produced in the second somersault of a backward straight double somersault with arms fully adducted to the body. This work aims to create a mathematical model by using kinematical equations that can describe the landing-jump of a trampoline performance. In this model, the trampolinist was assumed to be a combination of two parts of masses. The landing process (from the time trampolinist touches the net to the deepest location) was discretized into two stages. During these two stages, the trampolinist exerts different internal forces. Analyzing the kinematics of the abovementioned two stages, we obtained the numerical solutions for the optimum loading time and loading force of the trampolinist to get the deepest landing location. Purpose. The aim of the paper was to determine the occurrence of feet and ankle deformities in trampoline and artistic gymnasts. Methods. Ten acrobatic gymnasts (trampolinists) and 10 artistic gymnasts aged 6-14 years were recruited. The calcaneal-tibial (rearfoot) angle was determined as the angle of the upper calcaneal tendon and the longitudinal heel axis while Clarke angles were determined by podoscopy. Results. The trampolinists showed significantly greater medial angulation (calcaneal valgus) than the group of gymnasts. Right and left foot Clark's angles in both the trampoline and artistic gymnasts were above 55°. Conclusions. Trampolinists exhibit significantly more pronounced calcaneal valgus than artistic gymnasts. The prevalence of foot and ankle deformities in both populations should be addressed by coaches in the gymnastics training of young children. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Elite athletes often take part in group trainings and use teammates as learning resources. Despite this, research on the training and learning of elite athletes tends to characterise this training and learning as primarily individual. Purpose: This study, explores interrelated learning processes among elite athletes by exploring the performance-related learning that takes place between elite trampoline athletes in their training environment. The case will be made that such learning may be described most accurately as apprenticeship learning. Participants: The research focuses on a case study involving two Danish synchronised trampoline jumpers, Daniel and Peter, and their training as part of the Danish national trampolining team. Data collection: The data were generated through participant observation. During 10 days of observations, the principal researcher held informal talks with the athletes and the coach and took descriptive field notes. At the conclusion of the observation period, each athlete submitted to an individual, semi-structured interview. Data analysis: A theoretical reading of the data was carried out to facilitate interpretations that went beyond observations and the athletes' own descriptions, in order to reach a deeper understanding of how practice facilitates learning. Results: We encircle the athletes' interrelated learning processes by introducing the training environment of the national team and situations in which the athletes guide each other verbally or by jumping together. Discussion: We argue that the practice of the Danish national trampolining team can be considered a community of practice. Taking point of departure in our theoretical perspective we discuss how verbal and tacit bodily exchanges between athletes become opportunities for learning. Conclusion: In a practice containing varied resources for learning, we show that athletes can be each others' performance analysts, guiding each other through the use of metaphors and cues which disclose the practical meaning of how to overcome specific practical challenges. We also show that the athletes can be each others' sparring partners when they perform their sport together. In this form of interaction they directly feel and impact the other's performance, which means that both athletes encounter opportunities for learning. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: Due to the lack of studies describing and analysing the isometric force profile in Trampoline and its relationship to athletic performance, it was decided to conduct a cross-sectional, comparative and correlational study of this kind with Spanish trampolinists. Method: Sample composed of 60 national elite trampolinists, grouped by competitive category into 4 groups: 1) under-15 boys (n=23; 11.95 ± 1.79 years), 2) under-15 girls (n=9; 11.44 ± 1.23 years), 3) men (n=18; 20.72 ± 4.66 years), 4) women (n=10; 16.1 ± 2.02 years). Measurement by isometric dynamometry using load cells (Faculty of Physical Activity and Sports Sciences Strength Monitoring system), obtaining absolute and relative isometric strength in flexion and extension of knees, trunk, elbows, shoulders and hand grip. Comparisons between groups and correlations of strength with degree of difficulty score. Results: Numerous significant correlations between absolute strength and difficulty; shoulder extensor strength correlates significantly with difficulty in all groups; significant increase in absolute strength with age but not in relative strength. Conclusions: Higher isometric strength values in the adult groups compared to under-15s justify their separation in competition; the results obtained could be used in the design of a test for the selection of talent in diving. Abstract  The aim of this study was to examine the occurrence of urinary incontinence (UI) in mostly nulliparous women with a history of regular organised trampoline training as adolescents and to identify possible predictors. Female trampolinists in Sweden with licence for trampolining between 1995–1999 (n = 305), with a median age of 21 (range 18–44) years answered retrospectively a validated questionnaire. Competition with double somersaults had been performed by 85 women, the “competition group” (CG), while 220 women comprised the “recreational group” (RG). Of the trampolinists with UI during trampolining, 76% continued to leak. In CG, 57% and, in RG, 48% reported current UI. Abstract: Objectives: The purpose of this study is to investigate the underlying properties of athletes’ stressful appraisals. According to Lazarus and Folkman [(1984). Stress, appraisal and coping. New York: Springer] all meaningful situations that are appraised as stressful will include one of eight properties. These properties are: novelty, predictability, event uncertainty, imminence, duration, temporal uncertainty, ambiguity and timing in relation to the life cycle. Design: This study aimed to examine whether these underlying properties are relevant to the sporting context and if any further properties exist within this context using a qualitative interview approach. Methods: Sixteen national level trampolinists took part in interviews which focused on their most stressful competitive experience. Results: Following deductive content analysis all properties were found to have relevance to a sporting domain. Two further properties of Self and Other Comparison and Inadequate Preparation were also revealed which were proposed to be specific to a sporting context. Lost Move Syndrome (LMS) can be described as a psychological condition in which athletes find themselves unable to perform a skill that was previously automatic. This study examined the psychological causes of and responses to LMS using semi-structured interviews with 15 elite trampolinists. Responses were analyzed using inductive content analysis, which led to a total of 54 raw data themes forming 6 general dimensions. Results showed that despite positive experiences before the recognizable start of the syndrome LMS could be traced back to initial skill acquisition and a gradual increase in pressure from various sources. This then lead to negative emotional reactions including self-presentation concerns and perceptions of poor coping strategies. A change in cognitions surrounding the initial motor program of the move also left the sufferer with altered perceptions and visual memory of the skill. Participants expressed that coping strategies were unsuccessful due to the current lack of knowledge surrounding the syndrome. The article celebrates the life and works of author and mathematician Paul Erdős, also known as trampolinist and juggler, that has served as president of the American Mathematical Society, the Mathematical Association of America and the International Jugglers Association.
