This research focuses on studying a number of Nabataean inscriptions and one Thamudic inscription from the site of Al-Manhal. The site was discovered by the author in Al-Ramlah area, southwest Sinai, and he called it Al-Manhal, as it is on a lower level than its surrounding, making it a natural basin in which torrential water collects after rain, which made it a destination for people to drink and collect water. On southern rocky slopes there are inscriptions next to petroglyphs. This study includes 18 Nabataean inscriptions and one Thamudic inscription. The article offers information on the evolution of the Ḥāʾil thamudic inscriptions. It mentions that Ḥāʾil region lacked material evidence for the stability of non-Thamudian tribes, which later preferred to emigrate toward the north-west of the Arabian Peninsula. It mentions that thamudic inscriptions have been divided by the researchers namely Taymanite, Najdi, Ḥijāzi, and Tabuki.

During the 1980s, a large basalt stone was discovered in the foothills of Mount Hermon adjacent to Kibbutz Ma῾ayan Barukh in Upper Galilee. It is inscribed with several North Arabian graffiti, and another fragmentary text that is probably Aramaic, but has seriously been damaged. The North Arabian texts are nondescript graffiti, but gain notoriety by their provenance outside of Arabia. They may be regarded as either a product of local residents or the vestiges of Arabian travellers passing through the region. In regard to the former, it is widely assumed there was an Ituraean Arab presence in Upper Galilee during the late Hellenistic and early Roman era, but the evidence for their presence remains controversial. This research is an analytical study of eleven thamudic inscriptions found in Samarmada valley at the al-Jafr region in south Jordan. Among the thousands of Hismaic inscriptions found in the Ḥismā desert of southern Jordan are the signatures of countless authors and artists who carved their names, thoughts and drawings into stone. These signed carvings, which typically give not only the name of the author but also, on occasion, the name of his father, grandfather and even great-grandfather, provide an extraordinary record of the actual individuals who roamed the desert wadis 2000 years ago. This article, which focuses on a collection of Hismaic inscriptions and drawings from the Wādī Ḥafīr canyon of southern Jordan, illustrates how traditional epigraphic study of these names, combined with a GIS-based landscape approach, can provide a much clearer picture of not only who was carving the inscriptions and where, but also how the various authors may have been related or acquainted. Abstract This paper is an analytical study of ten new Thamudic inscriptions written in the so-called Thamudic E script, collected by the authors during a survey in the region of al-Jafr (southeast Jordan). A rock drawing in north-west Arabia shows a rider, a chariot and a foot soldier in battle. It is exceptional not only for its subject (at present unique) but for its use of a mixture of the artistic conventions employed in Arabian rock art and those used in Neo-Assyrian and Egyptian art. The three different parts of the composition have ‘captions’ in the Thamudic B script identifying the artists and the subjects, including the first occurrence of an Ancient North Arabian word for chariot. Yarmouk University partnered with the Jordan Department of Antiquities to conduct an excavation at Barsinia, Jordan. A team of archaeologists discovered a Thamudic inscription at Tall Dhiban in Jordan.

In 1984, a "Thamudic E" inscription was discovered at Uraynibah West, almost 35 km south of Amman in Jordan. It is of exceptional character in regard to its length, content, style, and language. An analogous rhetorical petition to the god Sa'b and goddess Lat was also discovered at Madaba in 1996, with similar phraseology and content, which offers important parallels to the Uraynibah text (dealt with in an appendix). What is striking about both texts is that they are written completely in an early form of Old or even Classical Arabic. The date is problematic, but because of the Nabataean cultural elements embedded in the texts, we would date them to around the beginning of our era. The provenance and sophistication of these texts in the heartland of Transjordan also argues against the standard ascription of Old North Arabic "Thamudic E" to "nomads" or "Bedouins." This article argues that Rhys Carpenter's date of Ca. 700 and Naveh's of the 11th century B.C. for the transmission of the Semitic alphabet to Greece, are both far too low. New finds of early inscriptions in North Arabic scripts, notably that at Kămid el-Lóz, revive the hypothesis proposed by Praetorius at the beginning of the century, that the so-called "new letters" in the Greek alphabet derive from ones found in Thamudic and Safaitic, for consonants that merged in Canaanite. As these letters seem to have disappeared from the Phoenician coast by the 14th century B. C., it is argued that the alphabet must have been transmitted to Greece before then. Further, the hypothesis of an earlier date removes many anomalies of the present schemes and makes possible a general theory for the many alphabets and alphabetically-based scripts that are found around the Mediterranean and beyond.
