We introduce the community to the remarkable fact that two significant discoveries in the field of organic photoswitches are associated to the Rubizhne (Rubezhnoe) branch of the Research Institute of Organic Intermediates and Dyes during the last century. The institute in Rubizhne was a place where researchers of various nationalities carried out studies of organic dyes for printing and textiles. These efforts resulted in the discoveries of photoswitchable hemithioindigos by M. A. Mostoslavskii and peri‐aryloxyquinones by Yu. E. Gerasimenko. Herein, based on the available literature, we reconstruct the circumstances surrounding these outstanding findings and highlight the unique role of the Rubizhne institute as a research center. In order to shorten the process of textile printing with natural dyes, develop new methods, and improve the color fastness and quality of printed products, this study presents a novel approach by synthesizing a natural complex dye through the interaction between purpurin and Fe2+ ions, resulting in a compound named purpurin–Fe2+ (P-Fe). This synthesized complex dye was meticulously characterized using state-of-the-art analytical techniques, including Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), ultraviolet–visible (UV–Vis) spectrophotometry, and scanning electron microscopy energy-dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). The characterization confirmed the successful complexation of purpurin with Fe2+ ions. The prepared complex dye P-Fe was used for the printing of silk fabric. The optimized printing process involves steaming at a temperature of 100 °C for a duration of 20 min. In comparison to fabrics printed using direct dyes, the K/S values of the fabric printed with the P-Fe complex showed a significant enhancement, with all color fastness ratings achieving grade four. Furthermore, the proportion of metal elements on the white background of the printed fabric was found to be less than 0.180%, and the level of whiteness was above 50. The application of the P-Fe dye in silk fabric printing not only streamlines the printing process but also enhances the depth and speed of the printed color, effectively addressing the issue of color transfer onto a white background, which is commonly associated with natural dyes. This research proposes a collaborative teaching method to enhance the learning experiences of fashion design students by combining technology-based and construction courses. Instructors from four different apparel design courses worked together over two semesters to create projects that enabled students to apply new knowledge and gain insight into course content. Survey questionnaires from students and an in-depth interview with one instructor show that collaborative teaching can offer a holistic approach to introducing new technologies, allowing students to see how techniques from one course apply in another, creating a real-world environment. However, this approach also posed challenges, such as pre-planning fabric selection and coordinating with the institution for technological support. Worldwide concern regarding the need for more sustainable textile supply chain prompted emphasis on innovation in the coloration process, often considered the most problematic segment of the supply chain. Digital textile printing, an emerging coloration technology, has the potential to improve sustainability significantly. This study undertakes an environmental sustainability analysis that compares the impacts of rotary-screen printing, the traditional, more established printing method, and digital textile printing. Researchers partnered with Creditex S.A.A., a vertically integrated textile company from Peru, to perform the research in a realistic factory setting. Creditex printed a 16-color design for an order of 1000m cotton fabric with reactive dye occupying both rotary-screen printing and digital textile printing and collected environmental impact data throughout the production process, including consumption, usage, and wastage. The findings suggest that digital textile printing is favorable to rotary-screen printing in terms of environmental sustainability impacts within the research context. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this investigation, air plasma treatment was utilised to activate the surfaces of 100% grey and bleached cotton fabrics in preparation for metallic pigment printing. The study delved into the surface morphology, wettability, and surface chemistry properties. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) revealed roughness and grooves in the treated samples. The contact angle witnessed a 29% and 41% increase for grey and bleached fabrics, respectively, compared to their untreated counterparts. Surface chemistry analysis using FTIR and XPS provided crucial insights into the functional polar groups, such as OH and C=O, along with significantly elevated O1 peaks in both plasma-treated grey and bleached cotton fabrics. These findings contributed to the enhanced surface free energy of the fabrics, preparing them for the subsequent pigment printing process. The study explores the impact of plasma treatment on the colour fastness of grey and bleached cotton fabrics printed with gold and silver metallic pigments. Untreated fabrics exhibited poor durability, with low colour change and staining-resistance ratings, particularly for gold pigments. Plasma treatment significantly improved colour retention, adhesion, and resistance to staining for both metallic pigments, with silver outperforming gold. Rubbing fastness tests revealed that plasma treatment moderately enhanced durability, though gold remained susceptible to friction damage. Light fastness was excellent for both pigments, and plasma treatment further improved performance. Perspiration tests showed that plasma treatment bolstered resistance, particularly for gold. These findings suggest that plasma treatment enhances the stability of metallic pigments, offering potential applications in the textile industry for improved product quality and durability. Background: Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) represents a promising technique for promoting functional recovery in individuals with neuromuscular diseases. Traditionally, current pulses are delivered through self‐adhesive hydrogel Ag/AgCl electrodes, which allow a good contact with the skin, are easy‐to‐use and have a moderate cost. However, skin adherence decreases after a few uses and skin irritations can originate. Recently, textile electrodes have become an attractive alternative as they assure increased durability, easy integration into clothes and can be conveniently cleaned, improving the wearability of FES. However, as various manufacture processes were attempted, their clear validation is lacking. This proof‐of‐concept study proposes a novel set of ink‐based printed textile electrodes and compares them to adhesive hydrogel electrodes in terms of impedance, stimulation performance and perceived comfort. Methods: The skin–electrode impedance was evaluated for both types of electrodes under different conditions. These electrodes were then used to deliver FES to the Rectus Femoris of 14 healthy subjects to induce its contraction in both isometric and dynamic conditions. This allowed to compare the two types of electrodes in terms of sensory, motor, maximum and pain thresholds, FES‐induced range of motion during dynamic tests, FES‐induced torque during isometric tests and perceived stimulation comfort. Results: No statistically significant differences were found both in terms of stimulation performance (Wilcoxon test) and comfort (Generalized Linear Mixed Model). Conclusion: The results showed that the proposed ink‐based printed textile electrodes can be effectively used as alternative to hydrogel ones. This study explores the intricate interaction between the properties of textile substrates and screen-printing parameters in shaping fabric circuits using silver conductive ink. Via analyzing key variables such as fabric type, mesh density, and the number of overprinted layers, the research revealed how the porous structure, large surface area, and fiber morphology of textile substrates influence ink absorption, ultimately enhancing the electrical connectivity of the printed circuits. Notably, the hydrophilic cotton staple fibers fabric effectively absorbed the conductive ink into the fabric substrate, demonstrating superior electrical performance compared with the hydrophobic polyester filament fabric after three overprinting, unlike the results observed after a single print. As mesh density decreased and the number of prints increased, the electrical resistance of the circuit gradually reduced, but ink bleeding on the fabric surface became more pronounced. Cotton fabric, via absorbing the ink deeply, exhibited less surface bleeding, while polyester fabric showed more noticeable ink spreading. These findings provide valuable insights for improving screen printing technology for textile circuits and contribute to the development of advanced fabric circuits that enhance the functionality of smart wearable technology. Wearable electronic textiles (e‐textiles) have emerged as promising healthcare solutions, offering point‐of‐care diagnostics while maintaining breathability, comfort, durability, and environmental stability with strong mechanical performance. However, the lack of thin and flexible power supplies hinders their practical adoption. In this regard, textile‐based micro‐energy storage devices present an appealing solution. Inkjet printing offers the capability to produce high‐quality prints with sharp details and versatile substrate compatibility, making it an ideal choice for a wide array of printing applications. Here, the preparation of a range of inkjet‐printable 2D material inks is reported for the fabrication of ultra‐flexible and machine‐washable textile micro‐supercapacitors. Then 2D material heterostructures are proposed to enhance the performance of textile supercapacitors. This study reveals that a unique combination of highly conductive graphene with an insulator hexagonal boron nitride (h‐BN) can enhance the areal capacitance of graphene‐based textile supercapacitors by ≈82.48%. The heterostructure‐based supercapacitors also demonstrate higher energy (≈18.06 µWh cm−2) and power densities (≈4333.33 µW cm−2) with excellent capacitance retention (≈95% after 1000 cycles). These findings on inkjet‐printed heterostructure‐based supercapacitors may herald a new era for the future application of high‐performance micro‐supercapacitors within textile‐based wearable technology. In this study, we examine the combination of flexible textiles and electrodes to develop electronic textiles (e-textiles). We present a facile fabrication process using printing and coating conductive electrodes. Innovative textiles, which have evolved primarily through the integration of textile and electronic elements, have developed into e-textiles capable of performing high-dimensional tasks. For practical use of e-textiles, however, they should be compatible with various textiles, economical production, and suitable for mass production. In this study, silver ink-carbon nanotubes are used to screen-print electrodes, a key element of e-textile. We verify four types of spandex textiles and analyze whether ink-based electrodes are stably printed on the textile surfaces. As a post-process, 3D printing mold coating is invited to invent durable and water-repellent electrodes. The fabricated e-textile proves its practicality using a washing test. Additionally, electrical measurements under mechanical bending reveal a variety of potential applications based on their properties. As a result, the electrodes of e-textile have an initial electrical resistance of approximately 10 Ω. Polymer coating enhances the reliability of e-textiles. Washing tests and repeated bending deformation demonstrate that they help the coating maintain its electrical conductivity. On the other hand, electrodes without coating lose their electrical capabilities. This study proposes functional materials and reliable manufacturing methods that are beneficial for e-textile production. Accordingly, we present the diversification and potential of the smart textile industry, such as IoT sportswear, medical healthcare clothing, hazardous work detection clothing, and space exploration clothing, which are examples of applications based on e-textile materials and manufacturing technology. Composites of textile fabrics and 3D-printed layers have been investigated thoroughly during the last decade. Usually, material extrusion such as the fused deposition modeling (FDM) technique is used to build such composites, revealing challenges in preparing form-locking connections between both materials due to the highly viscous polymer melt, which can hardly be pressed into textile fabrics. Resins used for 3D printing by vat photopolymerization, i.e., for stereolithography (SLA), are less viscous and can thus penetrate deeper into textile fabrics; however, fixing a textile on the printing bed that is fully dipped into the resin is more complicated. Here, we present one possible solution to easily fix textile fabrics for SLA printing with consumer printers according to the digital light processing (DLP) sub-method. Abstract Background In this research, a brewer’s yeast suspension was used to biotreat raw linen fibers under a range of different circumstances utilizing an ultrasonic cleaner device. In order to optimize circumstances for the treatment process, this extensive work is focused on examining the variables that could affect the biotreatment, such as the amount of brewer’s yeast used, the duration, the temperature of the treatment, and the pH throughout the treatment. After enzymatic treatment, the printing process utilizing turmeric natural dye was used. Variable assesses were conducted to determine the steaming time, thermofixation time, pH of the printing paste, types of dyes, and types of fabrics. How these elements affected the wettability and fabric color strength is investigated. To better comprehend, scanning electron microscope (SEM) was used to study the morphology of treated and untreated linen samples. The effects of treating the fibers with yeast enzyme on their multifunctional qualities, such as color and antibacterial activity against gram-positive bacteria like Staphylococcus aureus and gram-negative bacteria like Escherichia coli, were assessed. Results Results demonstrated that the enzyme extract, which predominantly contains lipase, amylase, and protease enzymes that develop the fabric printability, is responsible for the increase of color strength which increased by about 152.27% with good fastness properties compared by the untreated printed samples. Conclusions The overall findings showed that the treated fabrics have superior color fastness and antibacterial properties when compared to the untreated fabrics, demonstrating that the procedure of production used to create these multifunctional linen fabrics is environmentally friendly.

With the advancement of functional textile technology, there is a growing demand for functional enhancements in textiles from both industrial and societal perspectives. Recently, nanopattern transfer technology has emerged as a potential approach for fabricating functional textiles. However, conventional transfer methods have some limitations such as transfer difficulties on curved fiber surfaces, polymer residues, and delamination of transferred nanopatterns. In this study, an advanced nanopattern transfer method based on surface modification and thermoforming principles is applied to microscale electrospun fibers. This transfer method utilizes covalent bonding and mechanical interlocking between nanopatterns and the fibers without requiring extra adhesives. Various nanopatterns transferred electrospun fibers possess significant potential for diverse wearable healthcare applications. This work introduces two specific application scenarios in the field of wearable healthcare, both of which leverage the light: diagnostics and antimicrobials. Versatile textile with silver nanogap‐pattern detects glucose in sweat, diagnosing hypoglycemia and diabetes by shifting Raman peaks from 1071.0 to 1075.4 cm−1 for 0 to 150 µm glucose. Additionally, a bactericidal mask using visible light to induce the photocatalytic degradation effect of titanium dioxide and silver nanopatterns is developed. Bactericidal efficacy against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus is 99.9% due to photolysis from visible light irradiation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Textile printing processes consist of the localised application of colour on textile substrates to obtain well‐defined designs and patterns. Currently, there are many textile printing techniques; however, the limitations and selectivity of these techniques still keep the printing method of rotary screen printing the most important and used among them. One of the advantages of rotary printing is its excellent application versatility, which can be used for any fabric and non‐wovens, fibre, or mixtures, with high production speed, quality, colour fastness, and definition. However, due to its high complexity, rotary printing requires great technical knowledge. Rotary printing requires specific application care depending on the fabric structure, fibrous composition, grammage, and type of intended effect. Regardless of the technique used, printed articles need to ensure that the colour remains attached to the substrate, either by direct dye–fibre or indirect pigment–binder–fibre bonding, to resist the conditions of use, that is, light, abrasion, stretching, and washing. The rise in recent publications reflects the search for economic and sustainable textile printing alternatives, focusing on screen printing variables. Achieving proper dispersion of pigments, dyes, or other additives, such as microcapsules or nanoparticles, within printing pastes or textile coatings is crucial for obtaining a homogeneous result. In certain specialized applications, such as coloration technology, it is possible to use colorimetry tools, visual examination, and even artificial vision to identify defects. However, none of these techniques comprehensively map the specific additive distribution. This paper proposes a novel approach: monitoring the distribution of conductive particles (graphene nanoplatelets, referred to as GNPs) within an acrylic coating paste using the Joule's effect. Four different dispersion systems (ultrasound mixer, blender, toroidal agitation, and three-roll mill) are employed. Thermographic images provide an accurate view of how conductive particles are distributed. This complements data from numerical values, such as the maximum and average temperatures recorded for each sample. In certain cases, relying solely on numerical values can be inadequate or insufficient, hence the novelty of this article emphasizing the significance of using the Joule's effect to assess the distribution of conductive particles. Concerning the mixing systems, optimal dispersion of GNPs in distilled water is most effectively achieved using an ultrasound mixer, with enhanced uniformity as dispersion time increases. For mixing the components of the coating paste, the toroidal agitation method yields the best result. Nowadays the detection of fabric defects is an active research topic to detect and resolve the difficulties faced in processing fabric in printing and knitting in textile industries. The traditional approach of visual screening of human fabrics is exceedingly time consuming and it is not reliable as it is much susceptible to human errors. There are two major issues in defect inspection like defect identification and classification in fabric. Automatic identification of defects is quite important in the current scenario. For enhancing the quality of the fabric, this paper proposes a Texture Defect Detection (TDD) algorithm. This TDD algorithm utilizes pre-processing for the extraction of luminance plane and Discrete wavelet frame decomposition for dividing the image into several subbands with same resolution as input image. Statistical features are extracted using Gray Level Co-occurrence Matrix and these features are applied to Support Vector Machine for classifying the defective images. This improves the quality of texture segmentation and classification of visible defects. The experimental setup is done with the fabric conveyor and three high resolution industrial cameras acA4600-7gc for covering the entire width of the fabric while running. This TDD algorithm is developed under LabVIEW platform. Textile Texture Database (TILDA) multi-class dataset is used for testing the proposed algorithm. This algorithm is tested for 4 different classes of fabric defects including 2800 defective and 400 non defective fabric images. The success rate of detection of fabric defect is 96.56% with the images from the database. The validation results with real time fabric images show 97% of accuracy in the detection of defects in fabric images. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In recent years, consumer preferences have begun to turn back to natural dyes, whereas synthetic dyes have been pushed into the background over the previous 60 years. This is a result of increased knowledge of the potential hazards associated with the creation of synthetic dyes, which use raw materials derived from petrochemicals and involve intense chemical interactions. Such dyes need a lot of energy to produce, and their negative effects on the environment increase pollution. It has been discovered that several of these dyes, particularly the azo-based ones are carcinogenic. On the contrary, natural dyes are getting more attention from scientists and researchers as a result of their several advantages like being eco-friendly, biodegradable and renewable, sustainable, available in nature, having no disposal problems, minimizing the consumption of fossil fuel, anti-bacterial, insect repellent, and anti-allergic, anti-ultraviolet, intensify dyeing and finishing process efficiency, less expensive, and no adverse effects on human health and environment. However, there are also some drawbacks, like poor fastness properties, natural dye printing for bulk production, difficulties in reproducibility of shades, and so forth. Despite all these limitations, the demand for natural dyes is increasing significantly in textile industries because they offer far more safety than synthetic dyes. This study provides an overall concept of the natural dyes in textile printing. It illustrates parameters of printing performance, methods, and techniques of extraction of natural dyes, printing methods, and printing of natural and synthetic fibers. Polyacrylate materials are widely used in textile adhesives, functional finishing agents, architectural coatings, and other fields. In order to improve their hydrophobicity and flexibility, a novel fluorinated polysiloxane was prepared by acid catalyzed bulk ring opening reaction with octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane (D4), tetramethyltetravinylcyclotetrasiloxane (D4v), and methyltrifluoropropylcyclotrisiloxane (D3F), and its structure was characterized. Then, as a modified monomer, the fluorinated polysiloxane modified polyacrylates was prepared by miniemulsion polymerization. The effects of fluorinated polysiloxane monomers with different vinyl content and molecular weight on the properties of emulsion, film structure and film hydrophobicity were studied. The results showed that when using fluorinated polysiloxane monomer with Mn = 6235, vinyl content of 0.33 mmol/g, and fluorine content of 7.40 mmol/g for modification, the water contact angle on the surface of the adhesive film reached 100.4°, and the water absorption rate was 8.1%, resulting in the best effect. Used for textile printing, the color fastness to dry and wet friction after fabric printing could reach level 4, and the hand feel was soft. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In the aim of textile printing and dyeing wastewater efficient and environmental friendly treatment, a cross-linked grafted cationic starch flocculant (CGSt) was prepared to study its removal performance of textile dyes. Here in, corn starch (St) was used as raw material, methacryloyloxyethyl trimethyl ammonium chloride and N.N′-methylenebisacrylamide were used as cationization grafting monomer and crosslinking monomer, respectively, and an environmentally friendly Fenton initiation system was adopted. The chemical structure and physicochemical properties of CGSt were characterized FTIR, NMR, XPS, EDS, XRD and SEM. The flocculation performance of CGSt on acid light yellow G, direct lake blue 5B and reactive brilliant blue KE-GN was investigated. The removal rate (RR) of CGSt to acid light yellow G, reactive brilliant blue KE-GN and direct lake blue 5B reaches 97.2%, 96.3% and 97.2%, respectively. CGSt has a wide flocculation window from 5 g/L to 12 g/L. It maintains good flocculation performance in a wide pH range from 4 to 9, and the RR was the highest when pH was 9, which is beneficial for the treatment of textile printing and dyeing wastewater with high alkalinity, complex composition and variable water quality by CGSt. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The development of e-textiles necessitates the creation of highly conductive inks that are compatible with precise inkjet printing, which remains a key challenge. This work presents an innovative, syringe-based method to optimize a novel bio-sourced silver ink for inkjet printing on textiles. We investigate the relationships between inks' composition, rheological properties, and printing behavior, ultimately assessing the electrical performance of the fabricated circuits. Using Na–alginate and polyethylene glycol (PEG) as the suspension matrix, we demonstrate their viscosity depends on the component ratios. Rheological control of the silver nanoparticle-laden ink has become paramount for uniform printing on textiles. A specific formulation (3 wt.% AgNPs, 20 wt.% Na–alginate, 40 wt.% PEG, and 40 wt.% solvent) exhibits the optimal rheology, enabling the printing of 0.1 mm thick conductive lines with a low resistivity (8 × 10−3 Ω/cm). Our findings pave the way for designing eco-friendly ink formulations that are suitable for inkjet printing flexible antennas and other electronic circuits onto textiles, opening up exciting possibilities for the next generation of E-textiles. Purpose: This paper aims to synthesize new screen-printing ink formula based on new derivatives of azo thiadiazol disperse dyes and evaluate their characteristics after being printed on polyester fabric substrates. Design/methodology/approach: New dispersed dyes based on 1, 3, 4-Thiadiazole derivatives (dyes 1 and 2) were prepared and confirmed by different analyses, infrared (IR), mass and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, and then formulated as colored materials in the screen-printing ink formulations. Printing pastes containing the prepared dyestuffs and other ingredients were used for printing polyester using screen-printing or traditional printing. The characteristics of printed polyester fabric substrates were measured by color measurements such as a*, b*, L*, C*, E, Ho, R% and color strength, as well as light, washing, crock and alkali perspiration fastness, and finally, the depth of penetration was evaluated. Findings: The prepared 1, 3, 4-Thiadiazole derivatives (dyes 1 and 2) were obtained from the reaction of 5,5'-(1,4-phenylene)bis(1,3,4-Thiadiazole-2-amine) with resorcinol and m-toluidine as a coupling component. The suitability of the prepared dyestuffs for silk screen-printing on polyester fabrics has been investigated. The prints obtained from a formulation containing dye 1 possess high color strength as well as good overall fastness properties if compared to those obtained using dye 2. Practical implications: The method of synthesis of the new dyestuffs and screen-printing ink provides a simple and practical solution to prepare some new heterocyclic disperse azo dyes, and they are formulated in the screen-printing inks for printing on a polyester fabric substrate. The coating process involves applying a thin material layer to a surface to engender it with specific desirable properties or enhance its performance. In the production of print media (labels, packaging, printed textiles, and promotional materials), the standard functions of the coating process include visual decoration, which involves the addition of appealing colors, textures, and patterns. A pertinent issue in the printing industry is that at present, the predominant coating process uses printing and coating technologies (gravure, flexo, letterset, letterpress, screen printing, inkjet, and electrophotography) and lamination (i.e., attaching decorative layers of materials, such as films or fabrics). In this paper, we present a new method for testing the efficiency with which different-sized metalized printing elements (using gold foil) may be applied to paper substrates; to do so, we gradually vary the amount UV-cured inkjet varnish (or adhesive) that is applied. To test the effectiveness of this method in producing metallic visual effects, we utilize seven different thicknesses of UV-cured varnish with the aid of modular piezo inkjet heads (KM1024 iLHE-30) and three different printing speeds. Our research shows that to achieve optimal production of cold metalized foil, a 21 µm layer should be deposited, and the substrate should move at a speed of 0.30 m/s. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Studies have investigated heavy metal (HM) contamination in the Bohai Sea, but primarily in seawater and associated sediments, or in single rivers. For the first time, 31 major rivers discharging into the Bohai Sea were analyzed, along with 27 uniformly distributed coastal seawater samples and selected invertebrates. The elements measured were As, Cd, Cr, Cu, Ni, Pb, V, and Zn. We calculated the 'geo-accumulation index', the 'metal enrichment factor', and the 'contamination factor', coupled with the 'pollution load index', and our findings suggested low-grade HM pollution, although two conspicuous associations of elements were found to stand out in particular: One is a combination of As, Cu, Cr, and V in seawater samples that may indicate pollution from intensive ship traffic. The other shows a significant pattern of Cr, Pb, and Zn in water samples from rivers discharging between Yantai and Weihai on the Shandong Peninsula at the south edge of the Bohai Sea. This is primarily a farming area, with a moderate share of industrial enterprises. Investigations including fertilizers and pesticides point to agricultural practices and textile printing/chrome tanneries as the causes of contamination. The art of screen printing largely depends on images captured from both natural and artificial sources. Obviously, with the upsurge of technology in the 21st century, images are easily captured with different kinds of cameras. Notwithstanding, creativity is propelled by a shift from normalcy from the artistic point of view. Innovative approaches to image acquisition for the conservation of textiles printing techniques, especially hand screen printing, can never be overemphasised. This study explores dabbing as an innovative image-capturing technique from found objects for textile printing with inspiration from the Rayograph technique by Man Ray. The Art studio-based research design under the Qualitative research method was employed for the study. Two approaches (Direct and Indirect dabbing) became significant. The studio exploration yielded to four articles comprising two printed fabrics for apparel purposes and two wall hangings for decorative purposes. A complement of the dabbing technique with screen printing was observed to be an innovative approach to the conservation of textile printing. It gives artists a great opportunity to utilise found objects in their surroundings that go a long way to minimize waste. After the establishment of any facility, it is quite necessary to determine the profitability of the unit. The present research provides a detailed analysis of the case unit along with the necessary costs and returns on investment. This research paper also includes the cost and benefits analysis of a newly installed digital printing department at Sapphire Diamond Company. Since the relationship between fabric printing and most of the costs is non-linear, this is the reason the system dynamics modelling technique was used in the present research; it was used to model the requirement of material, electricity, and human resources. The model was developed by using the stocks, flows, variables, and parameters in the Anylogic PLE version and the simulated results were validated from the real-time scenario. The data regarding the labour cost, electricity cost, and material cost were collected from the case department. Furthermore, the scenario analysis was conducted and simulated results were downloaded in Microsoft Excel. Several line charts were plotted in Microsoft Excel and Origin software. It was indicated from the scenario analysis that the cost per meter decreased by increasing the production rate. It was also indicated that if the digital printing machine was operated at its maximum capacity, the ROI would be maximum. Incurred overheads were also the subject of concern in the present scenario. After the overall analysis, it was concluded that the digital printing facility was still in profit even if its production rate per day was 150+50. Since the present research encompasses the detailed cost and benefit analysis of a newly installed digital printing facility, therefore, it can be beneficial for investors as analytical support to decide on installing digital textile printing machines. At the beginning of the 20th century, the eclectic artist Mariano Fortuny y Madrazo patented two innovative methods for polychrome printing on fabrics and textiles, giving life to Fortuny fabric production in Venice. The first patent was related to colour application, while the second to a special machine that allows continuous printing using cylindrical rollers. Despite the descriptions, the methodology and materials used remain a secret. In collaboration with the Fortuny Museum in Venice, this research aimed at studying and identifying the different steps of Fortuny printing methodologies. Printing matrices, fabrics and raw materials found in the artist's studio were analysed in a multi-analytical campaign through digital microscopy, X-ray fluorescence (XRF), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy in attenuated total reflectance (FTIR-ATR), μ-Raman spectroscopy and gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS). Three main pigments were identified in paper samples: ivory black, a copper-based pigment, and a carbon black pigment with ultramarine for blues. The pigments were bound with linseed oil and colophony in varying proportions. Polychrome silk fabrics were dyed with a base colour, and then the coloured patterns were superimposed by continuous printing. Prussian blue was identified as one of the textile inks. This study was conducted to isolate and identify bacteria from the wastewater of the textile printing industry inoculated with a mixture of cow dung, jaggery, and urea to assess the bioremediation potential of isolated bacterial species for reducing color and other polluting parameters of the wastewater. Based on colony characteristics, we were able to isolate nine types of bacteria (Pri 1 to 9), capable of thriving in textile printing wastewater. Out of the nine isolates examined, four (Pri 3, Pri 4, Pri 8, and Pri 9) significantly reduced the color and values of other physicochemical parameters of the wastewater. Isolated bacterial cultures were identified using various biochemical tests, antibiotic sensitivity tests, and rRNA sequence analysis. At the end of a 24-h incubation period at room temperature under shaking conditions at 100 rpm on an orbital shaker, isolate Pri 3 was identified as Alcaligenes aquatilis LMG 22996 (T), capable of reducing color by 86.13%, biological oxygen demand (BOD) by 70.44%, chemical oxygen demand (COD) by 80.65%, total dissolved solids (TDS) by 47.31%, total suspended solids (TSS) by 56.56%, and ammoniacal nitrogen by 75.95%; isolate Pri 4 as Priestia aryabhattai B8W22(T), capable of reducing color by 78.35%, BOD by 66.35%, COD by 74.92%, TDS by 34.94%, TSS by 31.66%, and ammoniacal nitrogen by 71.14%; isolate Pri 8 as Citrobacter werkmanii NBRC 105721(T), capable of reducing color by 90.37%, BOD by 82.13%, COD by 85.06%, TDS by 54.83%, TSS by 61.97%, and ammoniacal nitrogen by 80.76%; and isolate Pri 9 as Shewanella chilikensis JC5(T), capable of reducing color by 90.17%, BOD by 84.68%, COD by 83.46%, TDS by 59.13%, TSS by 62.45%, and ammoniacal nitrogen by 90.37%. Purpose: The aim of this review is to present together the studies on textile-based moisture sensors developed using innovative technologies in recent years. Design/methodology/approach: The integration levels of the sensors studied with the textile materials are changing. Some research teams have used a combination of printing and textile technologies to produce sensors, while a group of researchers have used traditional technologies such as weaving and embroidery. Others have taken advantage of new technologies such as electro-spinning, polymerization and other techniques. In this way, they tried to combine the good working efficiency of the sensors and the flexibility of the textile. All these approaches are presented in this article. Findings: The presentation of the latest technologies used to develop textile sensors together will give researchers an idea about new studies that can be done on highly sensitive and efficient textile-based moisture sensor systems. Additive manufacturing (AM), also known as three-dimensional printing (3DP), has been widely applied to various fields and industries, including automotive, healthcare, and rapid prototyping. This study evaluates the effects of 3DP on textile properties. The usability of a textile and its durability are determined by its strength, washability, colorfastness to light, and abrasion resistance, among other traits, which may be impacted by the application of 3DP on the fabric's surface. This study examines the application of photosensitive acrylic resin on two fabric substrates: 100% cotton and 100% polyester white woven fabrics made of yarns with staple fibers. A simple alphanumeric text was translated into braille and the braille dots were 3D printed onto both fabrics. The color of the printed photosensitive acrylic resin was black, and it was an equal mixture of VeroCyanV, VeroYellowV, and VeroMagentaV. The 3D-printed design was the same on both fabrics and was composed of braille dots with a domed top. Both of the 3DP fabrics passed the colorfastness to washing test with no transfer or color change, but 3D prints on both fabrics showed significant color change during the colorfastness to light test. The tensile strength tests indicated an overall reduction in strength and elongation when the fabrics had 3DP on their surface. An abrasion resistance test revealed that the resin had a stronger adhesion to the cotton than to the polyester, but both resins were removed from the fabric with the abrader. These findings suggest that while 3DP on textiles offers unique possibilities for customization and design, mechanical properties and color stability trade-offs need to be considered. Further evaluation of textiles and 3D prints of textiles and their performance in areas such as colorfastness and durability are warranted to harness the full potential of this technology in the fashion and textile industry. Creativity and design thinking skills are considered pillars in arts practice in general. Traditional arts education, in particular, involves a tension between pure technical skill and the ability to design creatively regardless of craft limitations. The present study focuses on eliminating the boundaries between craft and art and bridging the gap between technical skills and creativity in practicing traditional textile printing arts. The paper presents a teaching procedure that is based on exploring traditional textile printing within a new dimension and achieving a balance between both the technical and creative sides. The study proposes a survey model to investigate the impact of the applied procedures and understand students' perceptions of the full range of the traditional printing creative process in action. The conclusions of this study will aid in the development of traditional arts education and practice in general and their re-exploration as flexible, expressive, and creative forms of art. This research produced textile pigment printing paste using expanded polystyrene (EPS) as a binder, sodium alginate as a thickener, and ultramarine pigment. The printing paste production was optimized through response surface methodology, using central composite design (CCD). The dynamic viscosity of the produced printing paste samples ranges from 5200 to 5550.50 cP (Centi Poise). The Fourier infrared transform (FTIR) spectroscopy revealed the functional groups present in the printing paste. The result of the thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) conducted shows a first step decomposition of 94.14% that occurred at the range of 30.96°C–127.75°C. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) showed an endothermic transition at 119.44°C due to the absorption of energy during the breaking of printing paste bonds. Textile characterization such as wash fastness, croak fastness, and light fastness was carried out to determine the suitability of the print paste on cotton and polyester fabrics. The results of the fastness tests range from 4 to 5 for wash fastness, 3 to 4/5 for croak fastness, and 4 to 6 for light fastness. The optimum values of the model variables are thickener (50%), binder (40%), and pigment (5%). The performance of the printing paste as revealed from the results is moderate and comparable with textile printing paste suitable for commercial application. Textile materials are an essential part of contemporary architecture, the environment, and urban spaces due to their unique appearance and qualities, as it is now possible to achieve both a structural function and an aesthetic quality with textiles. As colour is one of the most important characteristics of textile material, it is also important to understand the relationships between colour and textile material with different surface qualities. In order to explain the complexity of different textile materials and the appearance of colours, which consequently affects the colour properties, this paper analyses this phenomenon. The presented research analyses the dependence of the reproduction quality and colour appearance on fabrics of different construction and structural characteristics, i.e., the texture of the textile material, printed using digital inkjet technology. The aim of this work is to investigate the influence of various structural features of textiles on the colour appearance of digitally printed textile substrates, to monitor the quality of colour reproduction, and to analyse the behaviour of a reactive dye droplet on textile substrates. Printing of a particular shape was performed using a Dimatix Materials Printer DMP-2831 piezoelectric inkjet device (provided by the J. Stefan Institute, Ljubjana, Slovenia; manufactured by Fujifilm Dimatix Inc., 2230 Martin Avenue, Santa Clara, CA, USA). The behaviour of the ink delivered by the needle of the tensiometer DSA20E, Kruess GmbH (provided by the J. Stefan Institute, Ljubjana, Slovenia; manufactured by Kruess Scientific Instruments (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. Futong Dong Dajie 10 Baoneng Center, Tower B, Room 605 Chaoyang District, Beijing 100102, China), on the surface of the fabric was analysed. The samples were digitally printed on a Mimaki digital printer Tx2-1600 (provided by University of Ljubljana Faculty of Natural Science and Engineering, Slovenia EU; manufactured by Mimaki, 2182-3 Shigeno-Otsu, Tomi-city, Nagano, Japan), with reactive dyes, which were first pretreated in a bath with a specific solution. The statistical method of image analysis and microscopic imaging were used to obtain the characteristics of the porosity, texture, and roughness parameters. All results are presented from colouristic analysis based on the objectification of colour and colour differences. The objective values of the parameters of lightness (L*), chroma (C*), and hue (h°) show the significant influence of the structure and properties of the substrate on colour reproduction, and significant changes were obtained, which were confirmed by the evaluation of the colour differences. The results confirm the influence of the substrate structure on colour properties. Furthermore, it is essential to consider this complexity in the context of environmental colour design when utilising (coloured) textile installations/materials in architecture and urban spaces, i.e., in the environment. In the area of wearable technology an enhancement of basic microstrip antenna is evolution of wearable textile antenna. A new development of wearable antenna is the incorporated of conductive plane using nanocomposite ink that embedded onto the fabric. In this paper, the performance of variety thickness of conductive Graphene-Ag-Cu ink on a drill fabric is presented. The performances include its resistivity and conductivity measurement. By performing a measurement using scanning electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, and four-point probe, it can obtain and measure the composition and thickness of nanocomposite layered on a fabric and resistivity respectively. Hence, it can provide detailed information about the surface morphology, roughness, and thickness of the nanocomposite coating on the fabric as well as the electrical conductivity. Adhesion between additively printed elements on textiles is one of the most important quality characteristics. Applied elements must form very good adhesion with the textile substrate in order to produce functional textiles. The request for non-planar printing directly on textiles is growing, especially in the fields of orthopaedic engineering and protective clothing. This new printing technique can open up new areas of application. For such a production of non-planar elements on textiles, new test methods have to be developed, as the current adhesion tests (180° peel test) are not applicable to non-planar prints on textiles. For non-planar additive printing on textiles, a cylindrical print bed for a fused filament fabrication printer was developed and modified accordingly in the first step. In the next step, a new measurement method was developed to investigate the adhesion between the textile and the non-planar three-dimensional-printed element. The study shows the challenges and the adhesion differences of non-planar printed objects on pre-stretched textiles on a cylindrical print bed. Several factors influencing adhesion were identified. The alignment of the printing nozzle to the textile substrate is the key factor influencing adhesion. The alignment also has a significant influence on the visual print quality. Digital printing has been widely used in textile printing production. In the process of designing digital printing patterns, an image generative model is needed to assist in obtaining more diversified patterns. However, the current model involves large storage space and high computing cost, which affects the promotion of digital printing customized production. To solve the problem, this article proposes a digital printing image generation method based on style transfer. Firstly, a style transfer method based on exact feature distribution matching is constructed to realize the accurate matching from image content to style features. And a balanced loss function is used to enhance the universality of the proposed method. Furthermore, knowledge distillation is introduced to compress the method proposed to reduce the hardware requirements when processing high-resolution digital printing images. Finally, a segmented training strategy is proposed to solve the performance degradation caused by model compression. The experimental results show that when processing images with a resolution of 3000 × 3000, the storage capacity of the model is only 2.68 MB and only 0.20 TFLOPs is required. Structural colors have been regarded as an ideal alternative to pigments because of the advantages of environmental friendliness, resistance to fading, especially in the fields of textile dyeing and printing, which is highly polluted in traditional ways and needs to be upgraded. They are generated by the interaction between the micro/nano structure of the material surface and the incident light, which is closely related to the sizes and periods of the structures. Based on different nano arrangements, the structures can be roughly divided into photonic crystals and non‐photonic crystals. In this review, we summarized recent research progress in structural coloration of fibers and textiles. Learning from nature, researchers proposed various methods to fabricate biomimetic structural colors, and the applications of structural colored fibers and textiles were extended. Possibilities of direct 3D printing on textile fabrics have been investigated with increasing intensity during the last decade, leading to composites which can combine the positive properties of both parts, i.e., the fast production and lateral strength of textile fabrics with the flexural strength and point-wise definable properties of 3D printed parts. These experiments, however, were mostly performed using fused deposition modeling (FDM), which is an inexpensive and broadly available technique, but which suffers from the high viscosity of the molten polymers, often impeding a form-locking connection between polymer and textile fibers. One study reported stereolithography (SLA) to be usable for direct printing on textile fabrics, but this technique suffers from the problem that the textile material is completely soaked in resin during 3D printing. Combining the advantages of FDM (material application only at defined positions) and SLA (low-viscous resin which can easily flow into a textile fabric) is possible with PolyJet modeling (PJM) printing. Here, we report the first proof-of-principle of PolyJet printing on textile fabrics. We show that PJM printing with a common resin on different textile fabrics leads to adhesion forces according to DIN 53530 in the range of 30–35 N, which is comparable with the best adhesion forces yet reported for fused deposition modeling (FDM) printing with rigid polymers on textile fabrics.
