In this work, the electromigration dispersion (EMD) due to the charged electrolytes in microchannels is considered without using the thin electrical double layer assumption. The electrokinetic flow and transport of ions are actuated within a rectangular micro-/nanochannel having a negative surface charge density under the influence of an external electric field. Due to the local variation of the conductivity and the nonvalidity of the electroneutrality condition, the local electric field varies as a function of the solute concentration, wall surface charge density, valency, and Debye layer length. The resulting electrokinetic flow due to the external electric field drives the fluid along with the charged species, where the Taylor–Aris dispersion separates the solutes into their different constituents. The local concentration dependence of the electric field leads to the formation of concentration profiles that are slightly asymmetric with respect to the standard Gaussian distribution. Including a finite Debye layer thickness has an effect on the advection of the species as well as the diffusion of the species. It is found that in cases where Debye layers are thicker, the species advects faster within the microchannel. This might give valuable insights into the nature of the EMD. Our model aims to predict the evolution of ionic concentration at all positions within the channel. A study of the higher-order statistics in skewness and kurtosis has also been conducted to obtain a better understanding of the idealized model consisting of a buffer solution. Determining the correlation between the size of a single quantum dot (QD) and its photoluminescence (PL) properties is a challenging task. In the study, we determine the size of each QD by measuring its absorption cross section, which allows for accurate investigation of size-dependent PL blinking mechanisms and volume scaling of the biexciton Auger recombination at the single-particle level. A significant correlation between the blinking mechanism and QD size is observed under low excitation conditions. When the QD size is smaller than their Bohr diameter, single CsPbI3 perovskite QDs tend to exhibit BC-blinking, whereas they tend to exhibit Auger-blinking when the QD size exceeds their Bohr diameter. In addition, by extracting bright-state photons from the PL intensity trajectories, the effects of QD charging and surface defects on the biexcitons are effectively reduced. This allows for a more accurate measurement of the volume scaling of biexciton Auger recombination in weakly confined CsPbI3 perovskite QDs at the single-dot level, revealing a superlinear volume scaling (τXX,Auger ∝ σ1.96). Thermally stimulated discharge (TSD) technique is a traditional method in dielectric research, especially for electrets. However, in conventional open-circuit and short-circuit TSD techniques, it is difficult to distinguish the surface charge and body charge of dielectric materials. In particular with the test of polymer electrets, the deformation of the polymer film may take place during the measurement process, which will affect the accuracy of the experiment results. In this paper, a glass-assisting TSD (GA-TSD) technique is proposed to solve the above problems. The feasibility of the experimental technique is verified with the GA-TSD spectra of fluorinated ethylene-propylene copolymer electret films. In addition, their theory analysis is also accomplished. The influences of glass thickness, glass dielectric property, and metallizing on the glass on GA-TSD spectra are investigated. The results prove that the GA-TSD spectra can clearly distinguish the difference between surface charge and body charge according to the current direction. The quartz glass with the lowest dielectric constant is best suitable for the GA-TSD technique. The influence of the glass thickness and metallizing on the glass on GA-TSD spectra is little. The conventional electrostatic solutions for two-dimensional (2D) electrodes possess edge singularities for the surface charge density σ and the normal component of the electric field E n. These singularities are generally non-physical because they admit infinite gradients of the concentration of free charge carriers. In particular, they are unacceptable in the studies of the local field sensitive effects, such as the electric breakdown and the ferroelectric domain reversal. We claim that account for diffusion of free charge carriers leads to the disappearance of the edge singularities. This generalization occurs consistently within the same basic concept of conduction. Specifically, we consider the case of U -biased circular disc electrode of radius a. Account for diffusion leads here to a strongly nonlinear integral 2D equation for the electrostatic potential φ (r). Numerical solution of this equation shows that the law σ (a) ∝ U 2 / a takes place. Outside a close vicinity of the disc edge, we stay close to the conventional electrostatic solution for φ and σ. Heterogeneous ice nucleation (HIN) has applications in climate science, nanotechnology, and cryopreservation. Ice nucleation on the earth's surface or in the atmosphere usually occurs heterogeneously involving foreign substrates, known as ice nucleating particles (INPs). Experiments identify good INPs but lack sufficient microscopic resolution to answer the basic question: What makes a good INP? We employ molecular dynamics (MD) simulations in combination with machine learning (ML) to address this question. Often, the large amount of computational cost required to cross the nucleation barrier and observe HIN in MD simulations is a practical limitation. We use information obtained from short MD simulations of atomistic surface and water models to predict the likelihood of HIN. We consider 153 atomistic substrates with some surfaces differing in elemental composition and others only in terms of lattice parameters, surface morphology, or surface charges. A range of water features near the surface (local) are extracted from short MD simulations over a time interval (≤ 300 ns) where ice nucleation has not initiated. Three ML classification models, Random Forest (RF), support vector machine, and Gaussian process classification are considered, and the accuracies achieved by all three approaches lie within their statistical uncertainties. Including local water features is essential for accurate prediction. The accuracy of our best RF classification model obtained including both surface and local water features is 0.89 ± 0.05. A similar accuracy can be achieved including only local water features, suggesting that the important surface properties are largely captured by the local water features. Some important features identified by ML analysis are local icelike structures, water density and polarization profiles perpendicular to the surface, and the two-dimensional lattice match to ice. We expect that this work, with its strong focus on realistic surface models, will serve as a guide to the identification or design of substrates that can promote or discourage ice nucleation. Graphene-based applications, such as supercapacitors or capacitive deionization, take place in an aqueous environment, and they benefit from molecular-level insights into the behavior of aqueous electrolyte solutions in single-digit graphene nanopores with a size comparable to a few molecular diameters. Under single-digit graphene nanoconfinement (smallest dimension <2 nm), water and ions behave drastically different than in the bulk. Most aqueous electrolytes in the graphene-based applications as well as in nature contain a mix of electrolytes. We study several prototypical aqueous mixed alkali-chloride electrolytes containing an equimolar fraction of Li/Na, Li/K, or Na/K cations confined between neutral and positively or negatively charged parallel graphene sheets. The strong hydration shell of small Li+ vs a larger Na+ or large K+ with weaker or weak hydration shells affects the interplay between the ions's propensity to hydrate or dehydrate under the graphene nanoconfinement and the strength of the ion–graphene interactions mediated by confinement-induced layered water. We perform molecular dynamics simulations of the confined mixed-cation electrolytes using the effectively polarizable force field for electrolyte–graphene systems and focused on a relation between the electrochemical adsorption and structural properties of the water molecules and ions and their diffusion behavior. The simulations show that the one-layer nanoslits have the biggest impact on the ions' adsorption and the water and ions' diffusion. The positively charged one-layer nanoslits only allow for Cl− adsorption and strengthen the intermolecular bonding, which along with the ultrathin confinement substantially reduces the water and Cl− diffusion. In contrast, the negatively charged one-layer nanoslits only allow for adsorption of weakly hydrated Na+ or K+ and substantially break up the non-covalent bond network, which leads to the enhancement of the water and Na+ or K+ diffusion up to or even above the bulk diffusion. In wider nanoslits, cations adsorb closer to the graphene surfaces than Cl−'s with preferential adsorption of a weakly hydrated cation over a strongly hydrated cation. The positive graphene charge has an intuitive effect on the adsorption of weakly hydrated Na+'s or K+'s and Cl−'s and a counterintuitive effect on the adsorption of strongly hydrated Li+'s. On the other hand, the negative surface charge has an intuitive effect on the adsorption of both types of cations and only mild intuitive or counterintuitive effects on the Cl− adsorption. The diffusion of water molecules and ions confined in the wider nanoslits is reduced with respect to the bulk diffusion, more for the positive graphene charge, which strengthened the intermolecular bonding, and less for the negative surface charge, which weakened the non-covalent bond network. Electro-osmotic flow (EOF) is a phenomenon where fluid motion occurs in porous materials or micro/nano-channels when an external electric field is applied. In the particular example of single-molecule electrophoresis using single nanopores, the role of EOF on the translocation velocity of the analyte molecule through the nanopore is not fully understood. The complexity arises from a combination of effects from hydrodynamics in restricted environments, electrostatics emanating from charge decorations and geometry of the pores. We address this fundamental issue using the Poisson–Nernst–Planck and Navier–Stokes (PNP–NS) equations for cylindrical solid-state nanopores and three representative protein nanopores (α-hemolysin, MspA, and CsgG). We present the velocity profiles inside the nanopores as a function of charge decoration and geometry of the pore and applied electric field. We report several unexpected results: (a) The apparent charges of the protein nanopores are different from their net charge and the surface charge of the whole protein geometry, and the net charge of inner surface is consistent with the apparent charge. (b) The fluid velocity depends non-monotonically on voltage. The three protein nanopores exhibit unique EOF and velocity–voltage relations, which cannot be simply deduced from their net charge. Furthermore, effective point mutations can significantly change both the direction and the magnitude of EOF. The present computational analysis offers an opportunity to further understand the origins of the speed of transport of charged macromolecules in restricted space and to design desirable nanopores for tuning the speed of macromolecules through nanopores. Short nanopores find extensive applications, capitalizing on their high throughput and detection resolution. Ionic behaviors through long nanopores are mainly determined by charged inner-pore walls. When pore lengths decrease to sub-200 nm, charged exterior surfaces provide considerable modulation to ion current. We find that the charge status of inner-pore walls affects the modulation of ion current from charged exterior surfaces. For 50-nm-long nanopores with neutral inner-pore walls, the charged exterior surfaces on the voltage (surfaceV) and ground (surfaceG) sides enhance and inhibit the ion transport by forming ion enrichment and depletion zones inside nanopores, respectively. For nanopores with both charged inner-pore and exterior surfaces, continuous electric double layers enhance the ion transport through nanopores significantly. The charged surfaceV results in higher ion current by simultaneously weakening the ion depletion at pore entrances and enhancing the intra-pore ion enrichment. The charged surfaceG expedites the exit of ions from nanopores, resulting in a decrease in ion enrichment at pore exits. Through adjustment in the width of charged-ring regions near pore boundaries, the effective charged width of the charged exterior is explored at ∼20 nm. Our results may provide a theoretical guide for further optimizing the performance of nanopore-based applications, such as seawater desalination, biosensing, and osmotic energy conversion. The electrostatic double layer force is key to determining the stability and self-assembly of charged colloids and many other soft matter systems. Fully understanding the attractive force between two like-charged surfaces remains a great challenge. Here, we apply the modified Gaussian renormalized fluctuation theory to study ion correlation-driven like-charge attraction in multivalent salt solutions. The effects of spatially varying ion correlations on the structure of overlapping double layers and their free energy are self-consistently accounted for. In the presence of multivalent salts, increasing surface charge or counterion valency leads to a short-range attraction. We demonstrate that although both overcharging and like-charge attraction are outcomes of ion correlation, there is no causal relationship between them. Our theory also captures the non-monotonic dependence of like-charge attraction on multivalent salt concentration. The reduction of attraction at high salt concentrations could be a contributing factor toward the reentrant stability of charged colloidal suspensions. In this work, we studied the free-carrier transport properties and space-charge formation/polarization in a CdZnTe bar-shaped radiation detector using the Laser-Induced Transient Current technique. We found out that a steady-state space charge ranging from 8 × 108 to 2.1 × 109 cm−3 is formed throughout the detector at about 0.5 s following biasing. The measured current waveforms were modeled by Monte Carlo simulations after taking into account the electric and weighting fields inside the detector and shielding box. Modeling of the unpolarized waveforms revealed an exceptionally high electron mobility-lifetime product μ e τ e ≥ 0.095 c m 2 V − 1 . The observed formation of positive space charge in the biased detector and linear scaling of the current waveform shapes on applied bias revealed that the detector polarization is attributed to carrier injection at the anode. Using Onsager–Straley's second-virial theory, we investigate the cholesteric pitch of cellulose nanocrystal (CNC) suspensions. We model the CNCs as hard chiral bundles of microfibrils and examine the effect of the shape of these chiral bundles, characterized by aspect ratio and chirality, on the cholesteric pitch. Additionally, we explore the impact of length polydispersity and surface charge on the cholesteric phase of CNCs. Furthermore, we consider binary mixtures of twisted bundles and achiral primary crystallites to provide a more realistic representation of CNC suspensions. Our findings reveal that the degree of bundle twisting significantly affects the helical twisting of the cholesteric phase. We also observe that the average particle length and length polydispersity have substantial effects on strongly twisted bundles but minimal effects on weakly twisted ones. Finally, our study indicates that as the range of electrostatic interactions increases, the transfer of chirality from the microscopic to macroscopic length scales becomes masked, resulting in an increase in the cholesteric pitch. In the case of binary mixtures, the bundles act as chiral dopants, and an increasing fraction of bundles progressively enhances the helical twisting of the cholesteric phase. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this work, we investigate the diffusion of LiCl electrolytes in 3D-nanoporous graphene structures (3D-NGSs) through molecular dynamics simulations. The diffusion coefficients, D, of water, Li+, and Cl− are calculated in 3D-NGSs with different LiCl concentrations, porosities, and surface charge densities under various temperatures. It is found that the diffusion coefficients follow the Arrhenius Equation and power laws for the dependence on the temperature and porosity, respectively. They decrease with increasing salt concentration. At high surface charge densities, the diffusion coefficients decrease with increasing charge density, which, however, plays a minor role in affecting the diffusion coefficients in the range of 0–0.2 C m−2. The mechanisms are investigated through the potential energy distribution in the 3D-NGSs. General scaling laws for the diffusion coefficients of water, Li+, and Cl− are proposed. The surface charges of catalysts have intricate influences on the thermodynamics and kinetics of electrochemical reactions. Herein, we develop a grand-canonical iteration method based on density functional theory calculations to explore the effect of surface charges on reaction kinetics beyond the traditional Butler–Volmer picture. Using the hydrogen evolution reaction on S vacancies of MoS2 as an example, we show how to track the change of surface charge in a reaction and to analyze its influence on the kinetics. Protons adsorb on S vacancies in a tough and charge-insensitive water splitting manner, which explains the observed large Tafel slope. Grand-canonical calculations report an unanticipated surface charge-induced change of the desorption pathway from the Heyrovsky route to a Volmer–Tafel route. During an electrochemical reaction, a net electron inflow into the catalyst may bring two effects, i.e., stabilization of the canonical energy and destabilization of the charge-dependent grand-canonical part. On the contrary, a net outflow of electrons from the catalyst can reverse the two effects. This surface charge effect has substantial impacts on the overpotential and the Tafel slope. We suggest that the surface charge effect is universal for all electrochemical reactions and significant for those involving interfacial proton transfers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper presents an advanced measurement method for controlling the surface charge carrier density of passivated silicon wafers during photoconductance and photoluminescence measurements, by employing semitransparent poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)-poly(styrenesulfonate) electrodes with an applied bias voltage. This is employed to study and analyze charge carrier dynamics in dielectric layers by measuring their direct influence on effective lifetime. With this method, the carrier population at the surface and the effective carrier lifetimes of n- and p-type samples can be investigated, from which the fixed charge carrier density Qf of the passivation can be extracted. Additionally, the defect density Dit can also be derived from the minimum lifetime values at flatband voltage. In SiO2/Al2O3 stacks with varying SiO2 interlayer thickness, it was shown that by changing the SiO2 thickness, the carrier density Qf can be tuned to a wide range of values, which corresponds to the results obtained in other studies. An increase in interlayer thickness resulted in a decrease in Qf. Varying the SiO2 thickness, the behavior of the respective effective lifetime under bias voltage also changes, exhibiting hysteresis-like effects, which are attributed to additional charges getting trapped at the surface during bias-voltage application. This effect is much more pronounced for samples with a thinner SiO2 layer as well as for the n-type samples. Additionally, the doping type also influences the magnitude of Qf, with p-type samples generally reaching lower absolute values. It was also shown that aging of the samples had a significant effect on the measured Qf, which was increased compared to the initial Qf of the passivation. This effect was more pronounced for the n-type samples. The measurements were realized by a cost-effective and easy-to-use microcontroller-based potentiostat, which can be used as a simple add-on to existing photoconductance or photoluminescence measurement setups. We study the interaction between heterogeneously charged surfaces in an electrolyte solution by employing classical Density Functional Theory (cDFT) and Monte Carlo simulations. We observe a consistent behavior between cDFT and Monte Carlo simulations regarding force curves and two-dimensional density profiles. Armed with the validated cDFT, we explore the system's behavior under parameters that are challenging to simulate directly. Our findings include the impacts of domain size, domain charge, domain charge configuration, and bulk electrolyte concentration on the osmotic pressure. Remarkably, the force curve is more sensitive to the domain size for an asymmetric configuration than a symmetry configuration; the bulk concentration weakly influences the force curve independent of the system configurations. The emergence of new nanoporous materials, based, e.g., on 2D materials, offers new avenues for water filtration and energy. There is, accordingly, a need to investigate the molecular mechanisms at the root of the advanced performances of these systems in terms of nanofluidic and ionic transport. In this work, we introduce a novel unified methodology for Non-Equilibrium classical Molecular Dynamic simulations (NEMD), allowing to apply likewise pressure, chemical potential, and voltage drops across nanoporous membranes and quantifying the resulting observables characterizing confined liquid transport under such external stimuli. We apply the NEMD methodology to study a new type of synthetic Carbon NanoMembranes (CNM), which have recently shown outstanding performances for desalination, keeping high water permeability while maintaining full salt rejection. The high water permeance of CNM, as measured experimentally, is shown to originate in prominent entrance effects associated with negligible friction inside the nanopore. Beyond, our methodology allows us to fully calculate the symmetric transport matrix and the cross-phenomena, such as electro-osmosis, diffusio-osmosis, and streaming currents. In particular, we predict a large diffusio-osmotic current across the CNM pore under a concentration gradient, despite the absence of surface charges. This suggests that CNMs are outstanding candidates as alternative, scalable membranes for osmotic energy harvesting. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A surface streamer is a ubiquitous discharge in electric equipment and surface dielectric barrier discharge. It is expected to suppress this kind of surface discharge in the insulation system, but on the other hand, the surface streamer is also utilized for the generation of active ions and the control of a gas kinetic distribution. As a product of the surface streamer, surface charge influences and characterizes the streamer's behavior. This study observed the two-dimensional transient evolution of the surface charge and the tangential electric field in a single individual surface streamer at the nanosecond level. Using a reflective Pockels effect system and a framing camera system, the surface streamer propagation under a sub-microsecond pulse voltage was measured in real time and in situ. The inception, propagation, and deceleration of a surface streamer are observed. The measurement exhibits an electrode-charge equipotential region that equivalently extends the electrode boundary. Under an anode field with a weak tangential component, the interior of the surface streamer channel exhibits local deviations from the quasi-neutrality, and a reversed tangential electric field is observed. The lateral movement of the positive charge may be responsible for this reverse electric field. The diagnostic technique presented in this study can describe the surface charge transient behavior in pulsed surface discharges, which complements the streamer model. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this work, the planar, electric, double-layer structures of non-polarizable electrodes in electrolyte solutions are studied with Gaussian field theory. A response function with two Yukawa functions is used to capture the electrostatic response of the electrolyte solution, from which the modified response function in the planar symmetry is derived analytically. The modified response function is further used to evaluate the induced charge density and the electrostatic potential near an electrode. The Gaussian field theory, combined with a two-Yukawa response function, can reproduce the oscillatory decay behavior of the electric potentials in concentrated electrolyte solutions. When the exact sum rules for the bulk electrolyte solutions and the electric double layers are used as constraints to determine the parameters of the response function, the Gaussian field theory could at least partly capture the nonlinear response effect of the surface charge density. Comparison with results for a planar electrode with fixed surface charge densities from molecular simulations demonstrates the validity of Gaussian field theory. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Within the framework of the classical, mean-field Poisson–Boltzmann (PB) theory, we carry out direct numerical simulations to determine the differential capacitance of a closed nanochannel of a circular cross section, embedded in a polymeric host with charged walls and sealed at both ends by metal electrodes under an external potential bias. Our approach employs the modified PB equation, which accounts for the finite size of ions and the dependency of the electrolyte's relative permittivity on the local electric field. In view of the absence of reservoirs, the modified PB equation becomes subject to global algebraic constraints, without prior knowledge of a bulk electrolyte concentration. Equilibrium ion distributions and differential capacitance curves are investigated as functions of electrolyte properties and the surface charge density modulation. This modulation leads to asymmetric differential capacitance curves that can be tuned. More generally, our approach provides a transparent numerical framework for accurately simulating confined nanofluidic systems with new physical properties that may be exploited in novel iontronic circuit elements. In recent years, non-thermal plasma technology has emerged as one of the most promising candidates for decomposing CO 2. The fluid model, a powerful tool to investigate the plasma dynamics, is computationally costly in simulating complex CO 2 plasma with tens of particles and hundreds of reactions, especially driven by short pulsed voltages. In this paper, a deep neural network (DNN) is proposed to describe the discharge characteristics and plasma chemistry of CO 2 pulsed discharge at atmospheric pressure. The DNN is trained using the simulation data obtained from the fluid model and then continuously optimized by minimizing the loss function. The effectiveness and feasibility of the DNN are verified by comparing with the experimental measurement and the numerical simulation results. Compared to the time-consuming fluid simulations with tens of hours, the well-trained DNN typically requires only a few seconds to obtain the essential characteristics of CO 2 pulsed discharges with high accuracy, significantly improving the computational efficiency. The DNN prediction results show that increasing the pulse rise rate at a given voltage amplitude can effectively raise the discharge current and breakdown voltage, and the electric field in the sheath region also increases with the pulse rise rate. In addition, the density of the surface charge accumulated on the dielectric layer increases with the plateau duration, and then a strong induced electric field by the surface charges is established, which obviously improves the discharge current during the pulse fall phase. The predicted data also show that increasing the pulse rise rate and the plateau duration could effectively improve the density of product species, such as CO and O 2 , leading to an increase in CO 2 conversion. This study demonstrates that the DNN method is a reliable tool for obtaining the essential discharge characteristics of atmospheric CO 2 pulsed plasma and provides a promising avenue for future applications of DNN-based methods in non-thermal plasmas. Electrospinning has garnered much attention for skin renewal, emphasizing skin's pivotal role as a primary protective layer and the susceptibility to loss caused by burns. The research aimed to develop a multipurpose wound dressing that safeguard injuries and facilitates the renewal of dermal tissues. Two-layer nanofibers were prepared using polyvinyl alcohol–chitosan–gelatin/polyacrylonitrile (PVA–CS–Gel/PAN), containing mupirocin (Mu 3% w/w) in underlying layer and silver nanoparticles (AgNps) in the upper layer with varying concentrations. AgNps were synthesized from Capsella bursa-pastoris extract by the green method and characterized using XRD, SEM, FTIR, and UV techniques. Then, PVA–CS–Gel/PAN solutions with AgNps and Mu were electrospun into multilayer dressings. The effectiveness of the nanofibers was evaluated through in vitro and in vivo tests. The study examined the nanofibers containing spherical AgNps with an average diameter of 72.57 nm and a negative surface charge (− 12 mv). They had uniform and smooth surfaces with a diameter range of 476.31 to 926.04 nm. According to swelling and contact angle results, hydrophilicity of samples had a direct relation with water absorption. Controlled drug release within 72 h followed Higuchi or first-order profiles. MTT and antibacterial analyses indicated that optimized nanofibers (Mu/1% AgNps) had suitable biocompatibility and synergistic potential against Escherichia coli (E. coli) and Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) bacteria. Additionally, an in vivo test on rats with second-degree burns after 28 days demonstrated a 98.97% improvement in revival, outperforming its commercial counterparts. This paper systematically investigates the effective parameter on the performance of polydimethylsiloxane/graphene (PDMS@Gr)-based triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) as well as their applications. PDMS@Gr films containing 0, 0.05, 0.5, 1, and 1.5 wt.% graphene are synthesized, and their surface characteristics, mechanical behavior, and electrical properties are characterized. Vertical contact-separation mode TENGs are fabricated, and their performance is evaluated. The results demonstrate that the surface roughness and surface charge density are the most critical parameters for the performance of PDMS@Gr-based TENGs compared to the electrical and mechanical properties of the friction layers. The PDMS@Gr-based TENG with 1 wt.% graphene shows the highest power output of 2.6 W/m2 at an optimized working condition (5 Hz and 15 N). It also exhibits stable power output until 15,000 working cycles and displays battery-free applications by powering a light-emitting diode (LED) array, a calculator, a digital watch, and a digital thermometer. Circular dichroism (CD) is a significant optical response of chiral plasmonic nanostructures, with extensive applications in chiral sensing, biological detection, and negative refractive index media. In this study, a substantial enhancement of CD signal is achieved by embedding gold nanorod into planar gold L-shaped nanohole arrays. The structural surface charge distribution revealed that electric and magnetic resonance modes are generated under different circularly polarized lights at the same resonance wavelength. The enhanced CD signals originate from stronger magnetic resonance on L-shaped films and embedded nanorod under right circularly polarized light. Moreover, the CD effect of the nanostructure could be controlled by adjusting the relative positioning, aspect ratio of the embedded nanorod, and the period of the array. To further extend the applications of the nanostructure, the relationship between wavelength and refractive index is explored. These results offer novel insights into the design and manipulation of planar chiral materials with substantial CD and also expand the application of chiral structures in refractive index sensors. Vaccine manufacturing is one of the most challenging and complex processes in pharmaceutical industry, and the process control strategy is critical for the safety, effectiveness, and consistency of a vaccine. The efficacy of aluminum salt adjuvant on vaccines strongly depends on its physicochemical properties, such as size, structure, surface charge, etc. However, stresses during the vaccine manufacturing may affect the stability of adjuvant. In this study, the impacts of cold/thermal stress, autoclaving, pumping, mixing, and filling shear stress on the physicochemical properties of aluminum hydroxide (AH) adjuvant were evaluated as part of the manufacturing process development. The results showed that the autoclaving process would slightly influence the structure and properties of the investigated AH adjuvant, but thermal incubation at 2–8 °C, 25 °C and 40 °C for 4 weeks did not. However, -20 °C freezing AH adjuvant led to the adjuvant agglomeration and rapid sedimentation. For the high shear stress study with mixing at 500 rpm in a 1-L mixing bag and pumping at 220 rpm for up to 24 h, the average particle dimension of the bulk AH adjuvant decreased, along with decreasing protein adsorption ratio. The studies indicate that various stresses during manufacturing process could affect the structure and physicochemical properties of AH adjuvant, which calls for more attention on the control of adjuvant process parameters during manufacturing. Heavy metals and humic acid (HA) are often found together in aquatic ecosystems. HA has been shown to make nanoparticles (NPs) more stable because of its strong repulsion between particles and high charge density. In this study, soil-based HA nanoparticles coated with nano-TiO2 (HA-TiO2 nanocomposite) are used to remove Cd(II) and Cr(VI) ions from aqueous solutions. These particles are stable for 90 days. The zeta potential of HA-TiO2 (28 ± 2.4 nm) at pH 6.5 was 30.4 mV, and this is significant for environmental remediation because the surface charge can be either negatively or positively charged. The three-factorial Box–Behnken design; BBD with the response surface methodology was utilized for sorption system optimization. At optimal process variables, the highest sorption capacities of HA-TiO2 for Cd(II) and Cr(VI) ions were 358.4 ± 0.2 and 243.5 ± 0.1 mg.g−1 (169.7 and 127.6 mg.g−1 for native HA), respectively, at pH 6.5 after 30 minutes. To fit the kinetic data, the normalized standard deviation was preferable to the pseudo-second-order model. Thermodynamic parameters revealed endothermicity (ΔHo = 6.52–4.89 kJ mol−1) and spontaneity (ΔGo = −6.3–9.5 kJ K−1 mol−1) of the sorption processes at (20–40 °C). The ion-exchange sorption mechanism was suggested to take part in the Langmuir model fit. The application of the fabricated nanocomposite for the removal of Cd(II) and Cr(VI) from different environmental water samples was conducted with 98.5 − 99.7% efficiency. An innovative method for the fabrication of a catalyst-sensitizer dyad-based photoelectrode was developed by using the coordinated interaction between the pyridine-2,6-dicarboxylic group and Sn4+. A dyad (C1 + PDI) was loaded on the mesoporous BiFeO3 (BFO) photocathode for light-driven H2 generation. Osmotic energy harvesting was a promising way to alleviate energy crisis with reverse electrodialysis (RED) membrane-based technology. Charged hydrogel combined with other materials was an effective strategy to overcome problems, including restricted functional groups and complicated fabrication, but the effect of the respective charges of the two materials combined on the membrane properties has rarely been studied in depth. Herein, a new method was proposed that charged hydrogel was equipped with charged filter paper to form dual network fiber-hydrogel membrane for osmotic energy harvesting, which had excellent ion selectivity (beyond 0.9 under high concentration gradient), high ion transference number and energy conversion efficiency (beyond 32.5% under wide range concentration gradient), good property of osmotic energy conversion (~4.84 W/m2 under 50-fold KCl and ~6.75 W/m2 under simulated sea water and river water). Moreover, the power density was attributed to the surface-space charge synergistic effect from large amounts overlapping of electric double layer (EDL), so that the transmembrane ion transport was enhanced. The imperative for continuous device miniaturization has heightened the need for logic reconfigurability due to its benefits in circuit design simplification and process optimization. Van der Waals ambipolar transistors, notable for their inherent reconfigurable characteristics, have garnered significant interest for their potential to revolutionize information electronics. Nevertheless, as the semiconductor thickness approaches the 3-nm mark, precise modulation of electrical polarity presents a considerable challenge as minor variations in thickness can lead to significant electrical disparities. Here, we introduce a silicon backend process-compatible approach by employing surface charge transfer doping to skillfully adjust the polarity in ambipolar transistors. This universal method can achieve a controllable p-type doping effect and good electrical symmetry in ambipolar semiconductors. Through careful calibration of the MoO3 dopant layer thickness, we significantly enhance the hole mobility in doped WSe2 field-effect transistors (FETs), increasing it from 8 to 100 cm2 V−1 s−1, surpassing the performance of most non-silicon p-type semiconductors. A thorough temperature-dependent doping characterization elucidates the deeper traps-induced Schottky barrier variation for hole transport, and a reduction in current fluctuation for electron transport in WSe2/MoO3 FETs. Leveraging the precision in electrical polarity control, we demonstrate a complementary logic inverter by integrating two doped ambipolar FETs on a single monolithic channel. Plant fibers have been studied as sources of nanocellulose due to their sustainable features. This study investigated the effects of acid hydrolysis parameters, reaction temperature, and acid concentration on nanocellulose yield from maguey (Agave cantala) fiber. Nanocellulose was produced from the fibers via the removal of non-cellulosic components through alkali treatment and bleaching, followed by strong acid hydrolysis for 45 min using sulfuric acid (H2SO4). The temperature during acid hydrolysis was 30, 40, 50, and 60 °C, and the H2SO4 concentration was 40, 50, and 60 wt. % H2SO4. Results showed that 53.56% of raw maguey fibers were isolated as cellulose, that is, 89.45% was α-cellulose. The highest nanocellulose yield of 81.58 ± 0.36% was achieved from acid hydrolysis at 50 °C using 50 wt. % H2SO4, producing nanocellulose measuring 8–75 nm in diameter and 72–866 nm in length, as confirmed via field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) analysis. Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) analysis indicated the chemical transformation of fibers throughout the nanocellulose production process. The zeta potential analysis showed that the nanocellulose had excellent colloidal stability with a highly negative surface charge of −37.3 mV. Meanwhile, X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis validated the crystallinity of nanocellulose with a crystallinity index of 74.80%. The capability of dielectric measurements was significantly increased with the development of capacitive one-side access physical sensors. Complete samples give no opportunity to study electric susceptibility at a partial coverage of the one-side access sensor's active area; therefore, partial samples are proposed. The electric susceptibility at the partial coverage of a circular one-side access sensor with cylinders and shells is investigated for polyurethane materials. The implementation of the relative partial susceptibility permitted us to transform the calculated susceptibility data to a common scale of 0.0–1.0 and to outline the main trends for PU materials. The partial susceptibility, relative partial susceptibility, and change rate of relative partial susceptibility exhibited dependence on the coverage coefficient of the sensor's active area. The overall character of the curves for the change rate of the relative partial susceptibility, characterised by slopes of lines and the ratio of the change rate in the centre and near the gap, corresponds with the character of the surface charge density distribution curves, calculated from mathematical models. The elaborated methods may be useful in the design and optimization of capacitive OSA sensors of other configurations of electrodes, independent of the particular technical solution. This study proposes an anti-gravity 3D pulsating heat pipe (PHP) for cooling pouch batteries in electric vehicles. The 3D PHP envelops the battery cells and rapidly transfers heat generated from the batteries to the bottom cold plate. While the batteries generate heat on their frontal surface during charging and discharging, structural characteristics lead to localized heat accumulation at the electrode lead tabs. Therefore, to address frontal heating, Pattern A with a consistent height for the 3D PHP and Pattern B with varying heights to enhance heat transfer in the localized heating area were designed. The target application involved creating a battery simulator for 340 × 100 mm pouch battery cells, considering the battery's heat generation characteristics. The experiments for the thermal characteristics were conducted, considering factors such as the working fluid (methanol, Novec7100), filling ratio, supplied heat, and orientation. Additionally, to observe internal flow mechanisms, a special experimental apparatus was used, employing transparent fluorine rubber tubes to observe the flow mechanism of the 3D PHP. In the results of the thermal characteristics, the optimal filling ratio was 15% when heat generation levels of 50 W and 100 W were supplied and 20% when 150 W was supplied. The impact of orientation yielded varied results depending on the pattern and working fluid, attributed to the complex interplay of flow momentum due to orientation changes and the influence of the working fluid's buoyancy under anti-gravity conditions. Pattern B, designed with the goal of applying a localized heat model, exhibited relatively decreased heat transfer performance in areas with varying heights. As the distance from the varying height portion increased, temperature oscillations and heat transfer became more active. These results suggest that variations in the shape of the 3D PHP could be a primary design variable for crafting localized heat models. Observations of internal flow revealed that the 3D PHP, with its unique shape and operation under anti-gravity conditions, exhibits longer and more irregular cycles compared to gravity-assist PHPs, transferring heat through rapid oscillations of internal working fluid liquid/vapor slug/plug. The potential of 3D PHPs for cooling electric vehicle batteries is suggested by these findings, and further experimentation is planned to evaluate the optimal design and applicability. Encapsulation with polymers is a well-known strategy to stabilize and functionalize nanomaterials and tune their physicochemical properties. Amphiphilic copolymers are promising in this context, but their structural diversity and complexity also make understanding and predicting their behavior challenging. This is particularly the case in complex media which are relevant for intended applications in medicine and nanobiotechnology. Here, we studied the encapsulation of gold nanoparticles and quantum dots with amphiphilic copolymers differing in their charge and molecular structure. Protein adsorption to the nanoconjugates was studied with fluorescence correlation spectroscopy, and their surface activity was studied with dynamic interfacial tensiometry. Encapsulation of the nanoparticles without affecting their characteristic properties was possible with all tested polymers and provided good stabilization. However, the interaction with proteins and cells significantly depended on structural details. We identified statistical copolymers providing strongly reduced protein adsorption and low unspecific cellular uptake. Interestingly, different zwitterionic amphiphilic copolymers showed substantial differences in their resulting bio-repulsive properties. Among the polymers tested herein, statistical copolymers with sulfobetaine and phosphatidylcholine sidechains performed better than copolymers with carboxylic acid- and dimethylamino-terminated sidechains. Pollution from microplastics (MPs) and nanoplastics (NPs) has gained significant public attention and has become a serious environmental problem worldwide. This review critically investigates MPs/NPs' ability to pass through biological barriers in vertebrate models and accumulate in various organs, including the brain. After accumulation, these particles can alter individuals' behaviour and exhibit toxic effects by inducing oxidative stress or eliciting an inflammatory response. One major concern is the possibility of transgenerational harm, in which toxic consequences are displayed in offspring who are not directly exposed to MPs/NPs. Due to their large and marked surface hydrophobicity, these particles can easily absorb and concentrate various environmental pollutants, which may increase their toxicity to individuals and subsequent generations. This review systematically provides an analysis of recent studies related to the toxic effects of MPs/NPs, highlighting the intricate interplay between co-contaminants in vitro and in vivo. We further delve into mechanisms of MPs/NPs-induced toxicity and provide an overview of potential therapeutic approaches to lessen the negative effects of these MPs/NPs. Comprehensive Summary: Tumor stroma composing diverse extracellular matrixes (ECM) and stromal cells shapes a condensed physical barrier, which severely hampers the efficient accessibility of nanomedicine to tumor cells, especially these deep‐seated in the core of tumor. Such barrier significantly compromises the antitumor effects of drug‐loaded nanomedicine, revealing the remarkable importance of disrupting stromal barrier for improved tumor therapy with deep penetration ability. To achieve this goal, various nanoparticle‐based strategies have been developed, including direct depleting ECM components via delivering anti‐fibrotic agents or targeting stromal cells to suppress ECM expression, dynamic regulation of nanoparticles' physicochemical properties (i.e., size, surface charge, and morphology), mechanical force‐driven deep penetration, natural/biomimetic self‐driven nanomedicine, and transcytosis‐inducing nanomedicine. All these nanostrategies were systemically summarized in this review, and the design principles for obtaining admirable nanomedicine were included. With the rapid development of nanotechnology, elaborate design of multifunctional nanomedicine provides new opportunities for overcoming the critical stromal barriers to maximize the therapeutic index of various therapies, such as chemotherapy, photodynamic therapy, and immunotherapy. Key Scientists: In 2006, Chan et al. demonstrated that the size and shape of nanoparticles were important for biomedical applications, such as intracellular delivery rate and tissue penetration. In addition, the degradation of the structural collagen was confirmed to increase the diffusion of nanoparticles and macromolecules by Davies et al. in 2010. These findings reveal the importance of chemophysical properties of nanoparticles in determining their diffusion and the critical roles of stromal barrier in hindering nanoparticles penetration. On the basis of this, photoswitchable nanoparticles were developed by Kohane et al. for triggered tissue penetration and efficient drug delivery. In 2015, Nie et al. reported the targeted depletion of cancer‐associated fibroblasts by peptide assembly for enhanced antitumor drug delivery. In 2019, Shen et al. proposed the transcytosis strategy to promote the tumor penetration of nanoparticles. Very recently, Luo et al. reported the specific reversing of the biological function of cancer‐associated fibroblasts to suppress the generation of stromal matrix, greatly increasing the drug perfusion in tumor tissue. Room temperature water splitting due to reactive surface charges created by defects and porosity in metal oxides fabricated as Hydroelectric Cell (HEC) has translated it into electric current and voltage. Novel oxygen-deficient, nanoporous nanocomposites [(1- x) Na 0.5 Bi 0.5 TiO 3 - (x) MgFe 2 O 4 (x = 0, 0.2, 0.5, 0.8 and 1)] denoted as (1- x) NBT - (x) MFO used as multiferroic, have been prepared by solid state reaction for water splitting. NBT-MFO based hydroelectric cell has been fabricated to generate current and voltage by water splitting. Maximum offload current 8.23 mA and voltage 1 V has been recorded for 0.50NBT-0.50MFO nanocomposite based hydroelectric cell of area 2 × 2 cm2. Dissimilarity in ferroelectric-ferrite phase in nanocomposites generates strain in the perovskite phase evaluated by W–H plot analysis of X-Ray diffraction patterns. The validation of oxidation states of cations and the highest oxygen vacancies ratio of 80% has been calculated by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) peak area. The interstitial defects in nanocomposites have been analyzed by PL emission spectra. The actual charge transfer processes in HEC have been studied by circuit modeling of Nyquist plot by Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS). By virtue of utmost defects, highest nanoporosity and extremely low charge transfer impedance (1.169 Ω), nanocomposite 0.50NBT-0.50MFO delivered significant short circuit current. [Display omitted] The adsorption of heavy metal ions such as Pb(II) onto negatively charged minerals such as silica is expected to alter the structure and the interactions at the silica/aqueous interfaces. Besides the solution pH, the inner-sphere sorption of Pb(II) is expected to regulate the surface charge/potential, hypothesized to control the actions of monovalent anions in the aqueous environment. These complex pictures can be probed directly using surface-sensitive sum-frequency generation (SFG) spectroscopy. The pH-dependent water structure within the double layer at silica/aqueous interfaces under the influence of different ions was examined using SFG. The recorded SFG spectra were deconvoluted into the Stern layer (SL) and diffuse layer (DL) using the maximum entropy method in conjunction with the electrical double-layer theory. Standalone monovalent sodium salts do not exhibit ion-specific effects on the silica/aqueous interfaces. However, the mixture of Pb(II) species and each of these salts display profound ion-specific effects on the structure of silica/aqueous interfaces, indicating the role of Pb(II) as an enabler of the ion-specificity of the investigated monovalent anions. The interesting effect arises from a complex interplay between the physical processes (i.e., electrostatic interactions, screening effects, etc.) and chemical processes such as the hydrolysis of Pb(II) ions, ion complexation, protonation and deprotonation of the surface silanol group. This paper presents, for the first time, evidence for vesicle destruction and payload loss at the stage of purification of niosome dispersions by centrifugation, an important operation in the assembly of vesicular materials. The ability of niosomes of different compositions to reassemble, i.e., to restore the vesicular structure after destruction in the field of centrifugal forces, was demonstrated by dynamic light scattering and fluorescence spectroscopy. The kinetics of reassembly of vesicular structures is determined by the strength of the centrifugal field and the composition of niosomes. In contrast to ternary compositions, where particle size and modality are essentially unchanged after redispersion of the precipitate resulting from centrifugation, niosome dispersions containing anionic dicetyl phosphate includes micron-sized particles after redispersion, which vary in size over a wide range throughout the observation period. The reassembly process is complicated by the presence of charge on the surface of the niosomes. Elastic niosomes - ethosomes have been synthesised which, due to the high deformability of the shells, are less susceptible to destruction in the centrifugal field and retain the contents of the aqueous core. Using the "energy landscape" approximation, it is shown that vesicular structures assembled during hydration and reassembled after their centrifugation occupy different positions in the energetic pathway of their preparation. The results obtained should also be taken into account when determining the entrapment efficiency, since this procedure uses centrifugation to separate the load. It is important to note that the physical stability of niosomes, which is usually considered in terms of the functional activity of particles, is manifest and should be considered at the material preparation stage. In recent years, clean water and increasing the usage of renewable energy have been the two main goals to be focused on in developing a sustainable living environment. These goals can also be fulfilled by using photocatalytic processes which is a promising direction, photocatalyst is quite effective for water purification and sustainable energy resources. For the first time, we report a visible‐light‐driven photocatalyst of rGO/Cu−Co3O4 nanocomposite for photo‐Fenton‐like degradation activity. Cerium oxide particles are a unique material that enables studying the intersection of metal oxides, f-elements, and nanomaterials. Distinct from diverse applications in catalysis, energy, and medicine, cerium possesses additional influence as a non-radioactive actinide surrogate. Herein, we present a synthesis for sub-micron cerium particles using hexamethylenetetramine and ammonium hydroxide as precipitating agents with a CeIV precursor. The combinatorial homogeneous precipitation approach yields monodisperse and moderately-stable CeO2 particle suspensions in ethanol, as determined by powder X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, dynamic light scattering, and zeta potential measurements. Various additives may be used to moderate and manipulate the surface charge of the particles. Proof-of-concept electrophoretic deposition of the particles produces a uniform layer of CeO2 on graphite. It remains unknown what nanoparticles (NPs) could be a good candidate for insulin delivery, and there is still little research on the use of chitosan nanoparticles (ChNs) for this. The aim is to shed light on the efficacy of hairy cellulose nanocrystals (HCNs) in insulin delivery and compare it with that of ChNs. The NPs were synthesized and assessed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), dynamic light scattering (DLS), zeta-potential analysis, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, and the MTT (3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyl-2H-tetrazolium bromide) assay. Insulin was loaded into both types of NP and the insulin loading and encapsulation efficacy were measured. The release kinetics were also studied using zero order, first order, Korsmeyer–Peppas, and Higuchi models. The analysis revealed that the HCNs had a rod shape while the ChNs were spherical. The HCNs had a size of 100–150 nm with a zeta potential of +34.2 mV, while the ChNs were 100–200 nm in diameter and had a surface charge of +40.7 mV. Insulin loading reduced the zeta potentials to −26.08 mV and +19.47 mV for the HCNs and ChNs, respectively. The HCNs resulted in higher cell viability than the ChNs. Insulin release was higher for the HCNs compared to the ChNs. The Korsmeyer–Peppas model (R2 = 0.99, n = 0.741, K = 0.004) gave the best fit for the ChNs, while for the HCNs, both the Korsmeyer–Peppas (R2 = 0.97) and Higuchi models (R2 = 0.95) gave the best fit. Overcoming the blood–brain barrier (BBB) remains a significant hurdle in effective drug delivery to the brain. While the BBB serves as a crucial protective barrier, it poses challenges in delivering therapeutic agents to their intended targets within the brain parenchyma. To enhance drug delivery for the treatment of neurological diseases, several delivery technologies to circumvent the BBB have been developed in the last few years. Among them, nanoparticles (NPs) are one of the most versatile and promising tools. Here, we summarize the characteristics of NPs that facilitate BBB penetration, including their size, shape, chemical composition, surface charge, and importantly, their conjugation with various biological or synthetic molecules such as glucose, transferrin, insulin, polyethylene glycol, peptides, and aptamers. Additionally, we discuss the coating of NPs with surfactants. A comprehensive overview of the common in vitro and in vivo models of the BBB for NP penetration studies is also provided. The discussion extends to discussing BBB impairment under pathological conditions and leveraging BBB alterations under pathological conditions to enhance drug delivery. Emphasizing the need for future studies to uncover the inherent therapeutic properties of NPs, the review advocates for their role beyond delivery systems and calls for efforts translating NPs to the clinic as therapeutics. Pseudomonas aeruginosa is one of the most refractory organisms to antibiotic treatment and appears to be one of the least susceptible to photodynamic treatment. TMPyP is effective in the photoinactivation of P. aeruginosa, and the co‐administration with the cationic polymer Eudragit®‐E100 (Eu) potentiates this effect against isolates both sensitive and resistant to antibiotics. The fluorescent population (>98%) observed by flow cytometry after exposure to Eu + TMPyP remained unchanged after successive washings, indicating a stronger interaction/internalization of TMPyP in the bacteria, which could be attributed to the rapid neutralization of surface charges. TMPyP and Eu produced depolarization of the cytoplasmic membrane, which increased when both cationic compounds were combined. Using confocal laser scanning microscopy, heterogeneously distributed fluorescent areas were observed after TMPyP exposure, while homogeneous fluorescence and enhanced intensity were observed with Eu + TMPyP. The polymer caused alterations in the bacterial envelopes that contributed to a deeper and more homogeneous interaction/internalization of TMPyP, leading to a higher probability of damage by cytotoxic ROS and explaining the enhanced result of photodynamic inactivation. Therefore, Eu acts as an adjuvant without being by itself capable of eradicating this pathogen. Moreover, compared with other therapies, this combinatorial strategy with a polymer approved for pharmaceutical applications presents advantages in terms of toxicity risks. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Plant‐based nanoparticles can be tuned through the frequency of light for efficient synthesis, structural properties, and antibacterial applications. This research assessed the effect of material type (callus and whole‐plant extract) and the interaction with a specific range of light wavelength on AgNP synthesis. All types of AgNPs were characterized by their size, shape, associated functional groups, and surface charge. Interestingly, the size of red light and callus‐based AgNPs (RC‐AgNPs) was smaller (6.32 nm) compared to 14.59 nm for Ultraviolet light and callus‐based AgNPs (UV‐C‐AgNPs). Zeta potential analysis showed that RC‐AgNPs had higher stability (−29.2 mV) compared to UV‐C‐AgNPs (−16.7 mV). Similarly, red light‐based AgNPs had higher Oxidation reduction potential in both whole‐plant‐based and callus‐based AgNPs, indicating a more oxidizing nature compared to those synthesized under UV light. This was confirmed by the lower total phenolic and flavonoid content associated with them and their lower antioxidant activity. The higher antibacterial activities and lower minimum inhibitory concentrations of red light‐based AgNPs against highly resistant pathogenic bacteria demonstrated the role of red light in enhancing antibacterial activity. These results indicate that AgNPs synthesized in red light and callus extract are more active compared to those synthesized under other wavelengths and/or in whole‐plant extracts. Water pollution is a worldwide environmental and health problem that requires the development of sustainable, efficient, and accessible technologies. Nanotechnology is a very attractive alternative in environmental remediation processes due to the multiple properties that are conferred on a material when it is at the nanometric scale. This present review focuses on the understanding of the structure–physicochemical properties–performance relationships of silver nanoparticles, with the objective of guiding the selection of physicochemical properties that promote greater performance and are key factors in their use as antibacterial agents, surface modifiers, colorimetric sensors, signal amplifiers, and plasmonic photocatalysts. Silver nanoparticles with a size of less than 10 nm, morphology with a high percentage of reactive facets {111}, and positive surface charge improve the interaction of the nanoparticles with bacterial cells and induce a greater antibacterial effect. Adsorbent materials functionalized with an optimal concentration of silver nanoparticles increase their contact area and enhance adsorbent capacity. The use of stabilizing agents in silver nanoparticles promotes selective adsorption of contaminants by modifying the surface charge and type of active sites in an adsorbent material, in addition to inducing selective complexation and providing stability in their use as colorimetric sensors. Silver nanoparticles with complex morphologies allow the formation of hot spots or chemical or electromagnetic bonds between substrate and analyte, promoting a greater amplification factor. Controlled doping with nanoparticles in photocatalytic materials produces improvements in their electronic structural properties, promotes changes in charge transfer and bandgap, and improves and expands their photocatalytic properties. Silver nanoparticles have potential use as a tool in water remediation, where by selecting appropriate physicochemical properties for each application, their performance and efficiency are improved. Due to the interaction of accumulated charges on the surface of a test mass with the surrounding electric and magnetic fields, the performance of inertial sensors is affected, necessitating charge management for the test mass. Discharge technology based on Ultraviolet LEDs is internationally recognized as the optimal solution for charge management. Precision driving of Ultraviolet LEDs is considered a key technology in charge management. This paper presents the driving control system used for Ultraviolet LEDs, achieving precision pulse-width-modulation-type current output with controllable pulse width and amplitude. The system generates the pulse-width-controllable pulse voltage signal via analog pulse-width modulation, and subsequently regulates the amplitude of the PWM signal through range switching. To convert the voltage into the pulse-width-modulation-type driving current, the improved Howland current source is employed. The test results demonstrate that the driving control system can output controllable current in the range of 0.01 mA to 10 mA, with a minimum step of 0.01 mA. The accuracy of the current reaches 1%, the stability within 1 h is better than 1%, and the load regulation is better than 2%. Nanoparticles (NPs) have shown significant potential for pulmonary administration of therapeutics for the treatment of chronic lung diseases in a localized and sustained manner. Nebulization is a suitable method of NP delivery, particularly in patients whose ability to breathe is impaired due to lung diseases. However, there are limited studies evaluating the physicochemical properties of NPs after they are passed through a nebulizer. High shear stress generated during nebulization could potentially affect the surface properties of NPs, resulting in the loss of encapsulated drugs and alteration in the release kinetics. Herein, we thoroughly examined the physicochemical properties as well as the therapeutic effectiveness of Infasurf lung surfactant (IFS)-coated PLGA NPs previously developed by us after passing through a commercial Aeroneb® vibrating-mesh nebulizer. Nebulization did not alter the size, surface charge, IFS coating and bi-phasic release pattern exhibited by the NPs. However, there was a temporary reduction in the initial release of encapsulated therapeutics in the nebulized compared to non-nebulized NPs. This underscores the importance of evaluating the drug release kinetics of NPs using the inhalation method of choice to ensure suitability for the intended medical application. The cellular uptake studies demonstrated that both nebulized and non-nebulized NPs were less readily taken up by alveolar macrophages compared to lung cancer cells, confirming the IFS coating retention. In general, carriers are designed to deliver pharmaceutical (featuring small drug‐molecules) and biopharmaceutical (featuring large‐molecule drugs, e.g., antibodies, proteins, etc.) active ingredients and platform that is capable of transporting nanoparticles is rare. Herein, the fabrication of a supramolecular carrier with a nano‐grid structure for the entrapment of liposomes and exosomes is reported. The nano‐grid particles (NGP) are made of cyclodextrins as elementary units which are widely used to load drugs through host–guest inclusion complexes, whilst its secondary structure further formed the NGP tertiary architectures, enabling the entrapment of nanoparticles. The NGP features stimuli responsiveness, tunable surface charge, and good biocompatibility. The entrapped liposomes in NGP present enhanced distribution in lungs and extended duration of action in mice. The catalyst is crucial in enhancing productivity within the Fischer-Tropsch synthesis (FTS). The metal support interaction (MSI) plays a pivotal role in the FTS catalyst performance, impacting activity, stability, and selectivity. he configuration and composition of the catalyst dramatically impact MSI, with a strong MSI (SMSI) specified for the core-shell structure. In this study, two methods consisting of chemical treatment of etching and adding a promoter (Ru) for tuning the SMSI of the FTS catalyst are presented, and their footprints on the catalysts' performance are screened by utilizing various characterization tests, molecular dynamic simulation, and catalytic tests. It is recognized that the silica interfacial perimeter acts as a barrier that restricts the charge transfer and boosts the SMSI in the silica-coated catalyst. Conversely, the etched catalyst exhibits a moderate MSI, contributing to increased reducibility, stability, and activity. Furthermore, the Ru-doped etched catalyst represents the optimum MSI, resulting in the highest overall performance.
