Purpose: To investigate the microbiological outcomes obtained with either subgingival debridement (SD) in conjunction with a gel containing sodium hypochlorite and amino acids followed by subsequent application of a cross-linked hyaluronic acid gel (xHyA) gel, or with SD alone. Materials and Methods: Forty-eight patients diagnosed with stages II-III (grades A/B) generalised periodontitis were randomly treated with either SD (control) or SD plus adjunctive sodium hypochlorite/amino acids and xHyA gel (test). Subgingival plaque samples were collected from the deepest site per quadrant in each patient at baseline and after 3 and 6 months. Pooled sample analysis was performed using a multiplex polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-based method for the identification of detection frequencies and changes in numbers of the following bacteria: Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans (A.a), Porphyromonas gingivalis (P.g), Tannerella forsythia (T.f), Treponema denticola (T.d), and Prevotella intermedia (P.i). Results: In terms of detection frequency, in the test group, statistically significant reductions were found for P.g, T.f, T.d and P.i (p < 0.05) after 6 months. In the control group, the detection frequencies of all investigated bacterial species at 6 months were comparable to the baseline values (p > 0.05). The comparison of the test and control groups revealed statistically significant differences in detection frequency for P.g (p = 0.034), T.d (p < 0.01) and P.i (p = 0.02) after 6 months, favouring the test group. Regarding reduction in detection frequency scores, at 6 months, statistically significant differences in favour of the test group were observed for all investigated bacterial species: A.a (p = 0.028), P.g (p = 0.028), T.f (p = 0.004), T.d (p <0.001), and P.i (p = 0.003). Conclusions: The present microbiological results, which are related to short-term outcomes up to 6 months post-treatment, support the adjunctive subgingival application of sodium hypochlorite/amino acids and xHyA to subgingival debridement in the treatment of periodontitis. Background: Infected dentinal tubules are a possible source of bacteria that are responsible for the failure of root canal treatment. Therefore, disinfection of dentinal tubules by increasing the penetration of the irrigation solution is important for success in retreatment cases. This study utilized confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM) to assess and compare the impact of XPR, ultrasonic irrigation (UI) and sonic activation (SA) on NaOCl penetration into dentinal tubules following endodontic retreatment. Methods: A total of forty mandibular premolars were enrolled in this investigation. Following root canal preparation up to ProTaper X3 file (30/0.07), root canals were obturated with gutta-percha and bioceramic root canal sealer with single cone technique. The root canal filling materials were removed using ProTaper nickel-titanium rotary retreatment files until the working length was reached. The retreatment procedure was finalized using the ProTaper Next X4 (40/0.06). The teeth were divided into four groups based on the irrigation activation technique: control (conventional needle irrigation), SA, UI and XPR. During the final irrigation procedure, Rhodamine B dye was introduced to 5% NaOCl for visualization via CLSM. Subsequent to image acquisition, the maximum penetration, penetration percentage, and penetration area were calculated. Data were statistically analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis, Friedman, and Bonferroni Dunn multiple comparison tests through R software (p < 0.05). Results: In the middle third, UI yielded a significantly higher penetration percentage than the control group (p < 0.05). The UI and XPR groups showed increased penetration percentages in the coronal and middle thirds compared with the apical third (P < 0.05). Maximum penetration was notably reduced in the apical third than in comparison with the coronal and middle thirds in all groups (p < 0.05). In the control, SA and XP groups, the penetration area was ranked in descending order as coronal, middle and apical (p < 0.05). Conversely, in the ultrasonic group, the penetration area was significantly lower in the apical third than in the middle and coronal thirds (p < 0.05). Conclusions: UI enhanced the penetration percentage in the middle third of the root compared with that in the control group. Two mononuclear complexes, [Cu(L1)2] (complex 1) and [Cu(HL2)2](NO3)2 (complex 2) where HL1 is 1-((cyclohexylmethylimino)methyl)-naphthalen-2-ol and HL2 is 4-bromo-2-((2-morpholinoethylimino)methyl)phenol, have been synthesized under mild conditions and characterized by different standard analytical methods. Single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis shows that the copper atoms in both copper(II) complexes are in a square planar geometry. These complexes have been used as catalysts in the oxidation of benzyl alcohol and benzyl alcohol with various substituents in the presence of NaOCl as the terminal oxidant. The results show that complex 1 acts as a better catalyst than the other with the highest yield of 91% in the case of 4-methoxy benzyl alcohol oxidation. The copper complex transfers the oxygen of sodium hypochlorite to the alcohol to produce the aldehyde. The use of NaOCl as an oxidant in alcohol oxidation is rare although it is cheap and nonexplosive. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objectives: This study aimed to compare the tissue dissolving capacities of sodium and calcium hypochlorite [NaOCl and Ca(OCl)2] solutions applied without activation or with two irrigant activation methods. Materials and Methods: One hundred and eight dentin cavities were prepared. Preweighed tissue pieces were placed in these dentin cavities, and samples were divided into nine groups of twelve. In groups 1, 2, and 3, NaOCl was used with non-activation (NA), passive ultrasonic (PUA), and laser activation (LA). With the same techniques, Ca(OCl)2 was used in groups 4, 5, and 6, and distilled water was used in groups 7, 8, and 9. The weight loss of tissue samples was calculated and analyzed using Two-way ANOVA and Duncan tests. Results: Distilled water groups showed no tissue dissolution in any conditions. NaOCI and Ca(OCI)2 showed statistically similar dissolving effectiveness when used with the same technique. Activated groups dissolved significantly greater tissue than non-activated ones, the highest in LA. Conclusions: Ca(OCI)2 can be an alternative to NaOCl; for both, the first choice of activation may be the LA. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The objective of this in vitro study was to evaluate the shear bond strength (SBS) of several universal adhesives to dentin treated with sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl), and NaOCl followed by ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA). Adhese Universal, Scotchbond Universal, Prime & Bond Elect, Prime & Bond Active, and Optibond XTR were included in the study. SBS values were determined in self-etch mode with no pretreatment of the dentin, after a 20-minute exposure of the dentin to 6% NaOCl, and after a 20-minute exposure to NaOCl followed by a one-minute exposure to 17% EDTA. Experimental groups were repeated using a total-etch technique (except Optibond XTR). Adhesives in self-etch mode had significantly reduced SBS following dentin exposure to NaOCl (P <.05), while with a total-etch technique, only Prime & Bond Active was affected (P <.05). SBS in self-etch mode when NaOCl exposure was followed by EDTA were equal to or higher than negative control values (P <.05). For total-etch groups, Adhese Universal was negatively affected by NaOCl + EDTA exposure (P <.05). Prime & Bond Elect exhibited lower SBS following NaOCl + EDTA exposure when compared to just NaOCl exposure but was not different from the negative control (P <.05). For the adhesives tested, the use of 17% EDTA following NaOCl exposure negated the negative effects of NaOCl on SBS in self-etch mode. The aim of this study was to evaluate changes in geometry following root canal preparation using R-Motion instruments with different apical sizes and tapers. Fifty-four mesial canals of mandibular molars with single curvature of angles ranging between 20° and 30° were stratified into 3 groups according to their internal anatomy (R-Motion 25/.06, 30/.04, Reciproc Blue) (n = 18 per group). Micro-computed tomography was used to standardize the samples before instrumentation and, after instrumentation, to assess canal transportation, changes in canal volume and centering ability. Canals were irrigated with 17% EDTA and sodium hypochlorite, and the final rinse included subsonic agitation of these solutions. Measurements were analyzed automatically using the Dragonfly software (Come, Montreal, Canada) and were confirmed by a technician and an endodontist, based on a previously validated methodology. The results were analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis's and Mann-Whitney's tests. The level of statistical significance was set at 5%. Significant differences were found in the coronal third for canal transportation, with Reciproc Blue R25 having greater values compared with both R-Motion instruments (P <.05) and greater changes in volume when compared with R-Motion 30/.04 (P <.05). R-Motion of apical size and taper 25/.06 and 30/.04 were associated with similar changes in geometry following root canal preparation in curved mesial canals of mandibular molars, whereas Reciproc Blue was associated with greater canal transportation in the coronal root third. This study systematically reviewed literature regarding the effect of different concentrations of sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) used during root canal treatment (RCT) on postendodontic pain (PEP) and rescue analgesia. Following registration with PROSPERO (CRD42023388916), a search was conducted using PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and Embase databases. Randomized controlled trials of patients receiving RCT which assessed PEP at different time intervals were included. Following data extraction and Cochrane risk of bias assessment 2, meta-analyses were performed to evaluate PEP during the first 48 hours along with rescue analgesic intake. The certainty of the evidence was evaluated using the Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development, and Evaluation approach. Five randomized controlled trials with 674 patients were included. One study exhibited a low risk of bias, while 4 raised some concerns. Patients treated with low concentrations of NaOCl (≤3%) were significantly less likely to report PEP at 24 hours (OR = 2.32; [95% CI, 1.63–3.31]; P <.05) and 48 hours (OR = 2.49; [95% CI, 1.73–3.59]; P <.05) as compared with high concentrations of NaOCl (≥5%). Furthermore, with low concentrations of NaOCl, significantly lesser moderate-severe PEP was reported at 24 hours (OR = 2.32; [95% CI, 1.47–3.62]; P <.05) and 48 hours (OR = 2.35; [95% CI, 1.32–4.16]; P <.05) and lesser analgesia was needed (OR = 2.43; [95% CI, 1.48–4.00]; P <.05). While PEP can be influenced by several factors, low certainty evidence suggests that when NaOCl is used as an irrigant during RCT, PEP may be less likely with lower concentrations of NaOCl. Moderate certainty evidence indicates that lesser analgesia may be required with lower concentrations of NaOCl. These results should be cautiously interpreted. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Statement of the Problem: During endodontic therapy, irrigation solutions applied in the root canal may affect the physicochemical properties of the dentinal wall, thereby changing its microhardness. This may adversely affect the sealing ability and adhesion of dental materials. Therefore, many studies have focused on the search for an ideal root canal irrigant that has a minimal effect on dentinal microhardness. Purpose: This in vitro study was conducted to determine the changes in dentin microhardness after root canal irrigation with different endodontic irrigants. Materials and Method: Ninety-five freshly extracted maxillary central incisor teeth with straight single canals were selected. These teeth were sectioned transversely at the level of the cementoenamel junction. The working length of each tooth was determined, and canal space was prepared by the HyFlex CM rotary file system. During instrumentation, normal saline was used for irrigation. Then, teeth were split longitudinally into two segments. According to the irrigating solution employed, samples were divided into five groups (n=19): normal saline (Group A), 3% sodium hypochlorite (Group B), 2% chlorhexidine (Group C), 5% calcium hypochlorite (Group D), and 0.2% nanochitosan (Group E).3 mL of the corresponding irrigating solution was administered for total15 minutes in each prepared sample. The Vickers micro-hardness tester was then used to assess micro-hardness. The data was analyzed using one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA). Results: All tested irrigating solutions decreased the dentinal microhardness. Samples irrigated with 5% calcium hypochlorite demonstrated dentinal microhardness of 42.43± 1.62, which is the lowest among all the tested groups, followed by nano chitosan, sodium hypochlorite, and chlorhexidine. Samples treated with control group (saline) demonstrated the maximum microhardness of dentin in the present study. Conclusion: Within the limitations of this research, it can be concluded that the tested novel irrigating solutions, 5% calcium hypochlorite and 0.2% nanochitosan, were more detrimental to radicular dentin microhardness when compared with conventional endodontic irrigants. This study evaluates, in vitro, the effects of ozonated water as auxiliary endodontic irrigating and photodynamic therapy on the bond strength of fiberglass posts to root dentin. Sixty bovine incisors were prepared and divided into six groups (n=10):Oxidation only G1 Distilled water G2 5.25% NaOCl G3 10–15mg/L O3. Ox+PDT G4 DW+PDT G5 NaOCl+PDT G6 O3+PDT. Anatomical fiberglass posts were cemented and the roots were sectioned and submitted to the push-out test. Bond strength values were analyzed with two-way ANOVA and Tukey 5%. Failure patterns were analyzed. Sodium hypochlorite and ozonated water without photodynamic therapy showed the highest bond strength, and sodium hypochlorite with photodynamic therapy had the lowest bond strength. The O3+PDT association showed intermediate results. Considering that the main purpose of the O3 is disinfection, it was noted that ozonated water did not interfere on the bond strength of fiberglass posts to root dentin. Photodynamic therapy affected bond strength, mainly when associated with sodium hypochlorite. The ozonated water increases the PDT bond strength results. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Ruthenium (Ru) is an important platinum group metal for the manufacture of advanced materials owing to its chemical and physical properties. Generally, it is extremely difficult to dissolve Ru metal by using acidic solutions containing strong oxidizing agents. Therefore, pretreatments like alkali fusion roasting at high temperature are practiced to render the Ru metal soluble in aqueous solution. In this work, a simple procedure was proposed to dissolve Ru metal at room temperature without any pretreatments. The dissolution procedure consisted of two steps: (i) oxidation of Ru metal to RuO4– by using pure NaClO solution; (ii) reduction of RuO4– to stable Ru2OCl104– by using HCl as a reducing agent. The role of NaClO and HCl in the dissolution of Ru metal was discussed on the basis of the potential-pH diagram and the corresponding oxidation and reduction reactions. The effect of several parameters like the concentration of NaClO and HCl, temperature, time, and pulp density was investigated. Background: Pulpectomy is used to treat primary teeth with irreversibly inflamed or necrotic pulp tissue. There is, however, a lack of consensus on clinical protocols for teaching pulpectomy at dental schools. Aim: To determine what faculty members at Brazilian dental schools are teaching about pulpectomy in primary teeth. Design: A cross‐sectional, observational study was conducted using a 39‐question survey available via the Google Forms® platform. A snowball sampling strategy was used for recruitment. Invitations to participate were sent via e‐mail, WhatsApp® and Instagram®. The data were analysed descriptively. Results: A total of 177 (58.4%) responses were obtained. Most faculty members recommended the use of Kerr hand files (66.1%), and 1% sodium hypochlorite was the most common choice for the irrigating solution (35.3%). Iodoform pastes were the first choice of faculty members (41.6%), and 60.5% of the faculty members recommended composite resin as the definitive restoration. Conclusion: Similarities were found in the teaching of pulpectomy for primary teeth among faculty members at dental schools in Brazil. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: The emergence of disinfectant resistance has become a severe threat due to reduced effectiveness. This study was undertaken to determine how bacteria adapt to survive exposure to disinfectants in the busiest section of a tertiary care hospital in Varanasi, India. Methods: Four isolates (two Klebsiella pneumoniae, Kp1 and Kp2; two Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Pa1 and Pa2) were obtained from chlorhexidine (CHX)-based handwash during microbiological surveillance of "in-use disinfectants" in hospital. Six disinfectants [4% CHX, 2% glutaraldehyde, 7.5% hydrogen peroxide, 1% sodium hypochlorite and 0.1% benzalkonium chloride (BAC), and 70% ethyl alcohol] were tested against these four isolates to determine minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC). Antibiotic profile, change in MIC on exposure to disinfectants and biofilm formation in the presence and absence of disinfectants was studied. Whole genome sequencing (WGS) was done to identify the resistance mechanisms. Result: The isolates showed the highest MBC/MIC ratio (4) against glutaraldehyde. Exposure to supra-inhibitory concentration of BAC for 21 days resulted in doubling of MIC/MBC. The majority (75%) of the isolates were multidrug resistant. All the isolates were strong biofilm producers. The reduction rate of biofilm formation decreased with an increase in the concentration of disinfectants (p = 0.05 for BAC). WGS revealed multiple AMR genes including blaDIM-1, disinfectant-resistant gene and efflux pump genes. Conclusion: The study emphasized the various adaptation strategies of these isolates for survival in disinfectant environment, thus posing a huge challenge for their control in the hospital environment. Worldwide, synthetic compounds are used for both in-office and at-home dental care. They are a valuable resource for both prophylactic and curative treatments for various dental problems, such as tooth decay, periodontal diseases, and many more. They are typically preferred due to their broad range of actions and ability to produce targeted, rapid, and long-lasting effects. Using a 0.12% chlorhexidine mouthwash is capable of reducing the plaque index from 47.69% to 2.37% and the bleeding index from 32.93% to 6.28% after just 2 weeks. Mouthwash with 0.1% OCT is also highly effective, as it significantly lowered the median plaque index and salivary bacterial counts in 152 patients in 5 days compared to a control group (p < 0.0001), while also reducing the gingival index (p < 0.001). When povidone-iodine was used as an irrigant during the surgical removal of mandibular third molars in 105 patients, it resulted in notably lower pain scores after 2 days compared to a control group (4.57 ± 0.60 vs. 5.71 ± 0.45). Sodium hypochlorite is excellent for root canal disinfection, as irrigating with 1% NaOCl completely eliminated the bacteria from canals in 65% patients. A 0.05% CPC mouthwash proved effective for perioperative patient care, significantly decreasing gingival bleeding (p < 0.001) and suppressing Streptococcus levels even one week post-surgery. Lastly, a 6% H2O2 paint-on varnish and 6% H2O2 tray formulations successfully bleached the teeth of 40 patients, maintaining a noticeably whiter appearance up to the 6-month follow-up, with significant color differences from the baseline (p < 0.005). Synthetic compounds have a large research base, which also provides a greater awareness of their mechanism of action and potential adverse effects. For a better understanding of how they work, several methods and assays are performed. These are protocolary techniques through which a compound's efficacy and toxicity are established. In recent years, the environmental impact of pharmaceutical residues has emerged as a pressing global concern, catalyzed by their widespread usage and persistence in aquatic ecosystems. Among these pharmaceuticals, acyclovir (ACV) stands out due to its extensive prescription during medical treatments for herpes simplex virus, chickenpox, and shingles, as well as its heightened usage amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. ACV is excreted largely unchanged by the human body, leading to significant environmental release through wastewater effluents. The urgency of addressing ACV's environmental impact lies in its potential to persist in water bodies and affect aquatic life. This persistence underscores the critical need for effective degradation strategies that can mitigate its presence in aquatic systems. This study focuses on employing sodium hypochlorite as an oxidative agent for the degradation of ACV, leveraging its common use in wastewater treatment plants. Our research aims to explore the kinetics of ACV degradation, identify and characterize its degradation byproducts, and optimize the conditions under which complete degradation can be achieved. By assessing the efficiency of sodium hypochlorite in real wastewater samples, this study seeks to provide practical insights into mitigating ACV contamination in aquatic environments. The novelty of this research lies in its comprehensive approach to understanding the degradation pathways of ACV and evaluating the feasibility of using sodium hypochlorite as a sustainable solution in wastewater treatment. Background: Water electrospray technology has been developed and extensively studied for its physical properties and potential application as a non-chemical biocide against airborne pathogens. However, there are still concerns regarding the safety and potential toxicity of inhaling water electrospray (WE) particles. To address these potential hazards and offer insights into the impact of WE on humans, we analyzed the immunopathological response to WE by employing an intranasal challenge C57BL/6 mouse model. This analysis aimed to compare the effects of WE with those of sodium hypochlorite (SH), a well-known biocidal agent. Results: The study findings suggest that the WE did not trigger any pathological immune reactions in the intranasal-challenged C57BL/6 mouse model. Mice challenged with WE did not experience body weight loss, and there was no increase in inflammatory cytokine production compared to SH-treated mice. Histopathological analysis revealed that WE did not cause any damage to the lung tissue. In contrast, mice treated with SH exhibited significant lung tissue damage, characterized by the infiltration of neutrophils and eosinophils. Transcriptomic analysis of lung tissue further confirmed the absence of a pathological immune response in mice treated with WE compared to those treated with SH. Upon intranasal challenge with WE, the C57BL/6 mouse model did not show any evidence of immunopathological damage. Conclusions: The results of this study suggest that WE is a safe technology for disinfecting airborne pathogens. It demonstrated little to no effect on immune system activation and pathological outcomes in the intranasal challenge C57BL/6 mouse model. These findings not only support the potential use of WE as an effective and safe method for air disinfection but also highlight the value of the intranasal challenge of the C57BL/6 mouse model in providing significant immunopathological insights for assessing the inhalation of novel materials for potential use. Consuming a substantial quantum of energy (~165 TW h), the chlor‐alkali industry garners considerable scholarly and industrial interest, with the anode reaction involving the oxidation of chloride ions being a paramount determinant of reaction rates. While the dimensionally stable anode (DSA) displays commendable catalytic activity and longevity, they rely on precious metals and exhibit a non‐negligible side reaction in sodium hypochlorite (NaClO) production, underscoring the appeal of metal‐free alternatives. However, the molecules and systems currently available are characterized by intricate complexity and are not amenable to large‐scale production. Herein, we have successfully developed an economical and highly efficient molecular catalyst, demonstrating superior performance compared with the former organic molecules in the chloride ion oxidation process (COP) for the production of both chlorine gas (Cl2) and NaClO. The molecule of 2N only needs 92 mV to reach a current density of 1000 mA cm−2, with a small cost of only 0.002 $ g−1. Furthermore, we propose a novel mechanism underpinned by non‐covalent interactions, serving as the foundation for an innovative approach to the design of efficient anodes for the COP. Nickel-titanium rotary endodontic files have been commercially available for decades, but more recent innovations have introduced heat-treated and surface-treated files. This study investigated the corrosion properties of various nickel-titanium files in normal saline and sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl). Ten different file brands of size 40 with a 0.04 taper were subjected to electrochemical testing in 0.9% NaCl (saline) and 5.25% NaOCl at room temperature. The Open Circuit Potential (OCP) was observed for 1 hour followed by a cyclic polarization test from −300 to 700 mV and back to −300 mV (vs OCP). Nonparametric ANOVA and a pairwise comparison (P <.05) were used for statistical analysis of the OCP at 1 hour and the corrosion current (Icorr) obtained via the cyclic polarization test. Significant differences (P <.05) were found between files with respect to OCP and Icorr in both solutions. Nine files exhibited significantly greater (P <.05) Icorrs in NaOCl than in saline. Conversely, pitting corrosion was observed in the saline solution but not NaOCl. Weak and/or moderate correlations existed between OCP and Icorr measures in the 2 solutions. Significant differences in electrochemical properties were observed among the 10 brands of files. Overall, there was not a clear trend between conventional, heat-treated, or surface-treated files among OCP or Icorr in either solution. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aim: To compare the shear bond strength and penetration ability of self-etch sealant with and without enamel deproteinization. Materials and methods: A total of 37 sound extracted teeth were selected and 31 teeth were used for testing shear bond strength of self-etch sealant. For this, crowns portions of selected teeth were cut longitudinally with a diamond disc into a mesial and distal half, thereby yielding 62 samples. They were further divided into two groups; in Group 1, samples were deproteinised with 5.25% sodium hypochlorite and a sealant cylinder was built on the proximal surface. In Group 2, sealant cylinders were built without deproteinising the surface. Shear bond strength was tested using Universal Testing Machine. The remaining six teeth were used for penetration evaluation of self-etch sealant. In Group 1, the occlusal surface was deproteinised with 5.25% sodium hypochlorite and self-etch sealant was directly applied. In Group 2, sealant was applied without deproteinisation. The samples obtained after sectioning were observed under scanning electron microscope for sealant penetration. Mann–Whitney test and Chi-square analysis were utilised for statistical analysis. Results: The results showed that the shear bond strength of the two groups was statistically not significant (p = 0.23). However, the comparison of % penetration revealed a statistically significant difference between the groups (p = 0.016). Conclusion: Deproteinising the enamel surface prior to application of self-etch sealant enhanced the penetration ability of the sealant but did not show any effect on shear bond strength. Sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) is commonly used to irrigate primary teeth during pulpectomy. Although high concentrations of NaOCl are effective, they pose a risk of toxic damage to periapical tissues if NaOCl penetrates through the apical foramen. Therefore, low concentrations of NaOCl are preferred to mitigate this risk. However, concerns persist regarding the antibacterial efficacy of low concentrations of NaOCl compared to high concentrations. The objective of this study was to assess and compare the efficacy of 1% and 3% NaOCl irrigation in reducing bacterial load within primary teeth root canals. This clinical study involved forty participants divided into two groups. Group 1 (n = 20) received canal irrigation with 1 % NaOCl solution, while Group 2 (n = 20) received canal irrigation with 3 % NaOCl solution. Microbial samples were collected from the root canal using a paper point before and after irrigation. The samples were aseptically transferred to ultra-snap tubes and then analyzed using a Bioluminometer. The results were recorded. Both groups exhibited a decrease in bacterial count after irrigation. The mean colony count post irrigation for 3 % NaOCl was 258.05 ± 28.61, and for 1 % NaOCl it was 267.60 ± 30.56. However, no statistically significant difference was observed upon intergroup comparison. This study shows that 1% NaOCl is equally effective as 3% NaOCl in reducing bacterial count in root canals. Background: Given the lack of an ideal endodontic irrigant on the market, this study evaluates the antimicrobial potential of a formulated solution of 2′-fucosyllactose and lacto-N-neotetraose against E. faecalis within infected root canals, and explores any associated impacts related to the duration of irrigation. Methods: 32 single-rooted teeth extracted for periodontal reasons were infected with Enterococcus faecalis, and subsequently subjected to endodontic treatment with two different irrigation systems: sodium hypochlorite or a solution of 2′-fucosyllactose and lacto-N-neotetraose. These samples were then incubated in sterile culture media at 37 °C to observe microbial activity through turbidity. The culture broth of each individual sample was assessed as positive or negative by observing the turbidity or lack of turbidity in the culture at the time of evaluation. Results: the analysis of the results obtained from the comparison of groups irrigated with sodium hypochlorite or a solution of 2′-fucosyllactose and lacto-N-neotetraose demonstrates that the case solution has no bactericidal effect against E. faecalis inoculated in the endodontic system. Objectives: This study assessed the efficacy of different combinations of oxalic acid, 35% hydrogen peroxide, and 5.25% sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) for bleaching of tooth discolorations caused by hemoglobin. Materials and Methods: In this in vitro study, 40 sound extracted human premolars were disinfected and decoronated. Their primary color parameters were measured (T1). The teeth were then centrifuged with human blood for 3 days, rinsed, polished, and their color parameters were measured again (T2). They were randomly divided into 4 groups (N=10) and treated as follows: Group A: in-office bleaching with Pola-Office Plus followed by 30 seconds of light-curing, group B: 0.24 M oxalic acid for 5 minutes followed by in-office bleaching, group C: 5.25% NaOCl for 5 minutes followed by in-office bleaching, and group D: 0.24 M oxalic acid (5 minutes) followed by 5.25% NaOCl (5 minutes) and subsequent application of in-office bleaching gel. The color parameters of the teeth were measured again (T3). Data were analyzed by one-way ANOVA and paired sample t-test (alpha=0.05). Results: T2-T3 ΔE in groups B and D was significantly higher than that in group A (P<0.05); the difference between groups B and D was not significant. The mean ΔE and ΔL in group C were not significantly different from those in group A (P>0.05). ΔL significantly and equally increased in groups B and D after bleaching. Conclusion: Application of oxalic acid followed by in-office bleaching gel is more effective than the bleaching gel alone for correction of tooth discolorations caused by hemoglobin. Replicating maternal care and incubating octopus embryos artificially is advantageous to improve access to embryonic stages, split and share broods, and reduce the required space to culture large quantities of embryos. However, without female care and adequate rearing systems, the risk of bacterial and fungal infections can be high. This study evaluated the potential effects of low‐concentration sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) as a disinfectant on embryonic survival, hatchling survival, and growth. Embryos of a holobenthic octopus, Amphioctopus fangsiao, and of a merobenthic octopus, Octopus sinensis, were disinfected with 0.004% NaOCl for 3 min either once at the start (IB), at the start and halfway point (RB), and without disinfection (control). Survival of A. fangsiao embryos differed among treatments initially, but the final number of hatchings did not differ among treatments. No differences in the final survival for O. sinensis embryos were observed among the three treatments. Wet weight and growth for A. fangsiao juveniles did not differ among treatments at any point. In contrast, initial and final dry weight for O. sinensis paralarvae from the control treatment were heavier compared to the IB and RB treatments. This study evaluated the impact of canal irrigation using surfactants associated to NaOCl on the percentage of voids of root canal filling through micro‐computed tomographic (micro‐CT) analysis. 27 mandibular mesial roots with Vertucci type II canal configuration with isthmus were selected and scanned in a micro‐CT device. The specimens were assigned to three groups (n = 9), according to the irrigation solution during instrumentation: 2.5% NaOCl without additives (control), 2.5% NaOCl with 0.1% Benzalkonium Chloride and 2.5% NaOCl with 0.1% Tween 80. After obturation, the specimens were rescanned, and the percentage of voids were calculated. Data were analysed using one‐way ANOVA with a significance level of 5%. The percentage of voids were similar among the groups (p > 0.05). None of the specimens showed completely voids‐free areas. The addition of surfactants to NaOCl irrigation did not improve the quality of root canal filling of mandibular mesial root canals. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aim: To investigate the bacteriome present in teeth with primary endodontic infection (PEI) and apical periodontitis (AP) and to determine quantitatively and qualitatively the impact of chemomechanical preparation (CMP) using 2.5% sodium hypochlorite NAOCl on the bacteriome found in PEI with AP using the Illumina MiSeq platform. Methodology: Thirty‐six paired samples from 18 patients were successfully sequenced and analysed. Samples were collected at two sampling times: before (s1) and after (s2) CMP using 2.5% NaOCl. The DNA was extracted from s1 and s2 samples and quantified using quantitative PCR (qPCR). All 36 samples were sequenced using the Illumina MiSeq platform. Raw V3–V4 amplicon sequencing data were processed with the DADA2 pipeline to generate amplicon sequence variants (ASVs). Alpha diversity metrics representing abundance (Chao1) and diversity and evenness (Shannon, Simpson) were computed. The paired‐sample Wilcoxon's test was used to compare alpha diversity metrics and qPCR counts between s1 and s2. The PERMANOVA method (with 999 permutations) was applied to compare community composition between sample types (s1 versus s2) and between patient IDs. ALDEx2 (ANOVA‐like differential expression tool for high‐throughput sequencing data) to investigate differentially abundant taxa between s1 and s2. A paired‐sample Wilcoxon's test was used to compare alpha diversity metrics and qPCR counts between s1 and s2. Results: The qPCR counts were significantly higher in s1 compared to s2 (p =.0007). The Chao1 index indicated no difference in alpha diversity (p <.7019); whereas Shannon (p =.0056) and Simpson (p =.02685) indexes showed higher values in s2. The PERMANOVA test using Adonis2 showed a significant effect of sample time on community composition (R2 =.0630, p =.012). Patient ID also showed a significant effect on community composition (R2 =.6961, p =.001). At the genus level, Dialister, Mogibacterium, Prevotella, and Olsenella were differentially enriched at s1, while Actinomyces, Stenotrophomonas_unclassified, Enterococcus_unclassified, and Actinomyces_unclassified were differentially enriched in s2. Conclusion: The bacteriome present in teeth with PEI with AP is complex and diverse. The tolerance of 17 isolates of enterobacteria isolated from raw goat milk was evaluated against three sanitisers. All isolates were tolerant to sodium hypochlorite (1250 to >5000 ppm) and eight isolates were tolerant to peracetic acid (up to 1000 ppm). Two isolates were tolerant to all tested concentrations of quaternary ammonium with biguanide (>150/100 ppm). Although not all isolates are considered pathogens, they exert an important influence on the milk production chain. Sanitisers based on quaternary ammonium and biguanide seem to be more suitable for sanitisation in goat milk chain than sodium hypochlorite. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: Sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) is considered as the reference irrigation solution in endodontics. However, NaOCl‐related accidents may occur, and non‐dentist health professionals might under‐recognize this rare adverse effect although it is potentially severe, with possible medical and aesthetic sequelae. We performed a literature review to provide to non‐dentist healthcare professionals a large picture of symptoms, management and potential consequences of NaOCl accidents. Methods: We queried PubMed and the French Pharmacovigilance database and retrieved 76 cases for analysis (70 from 57 published articles, and six from the database). Results: The analysis showed that patients were mostly women (79%), aged around of 42 years, undergoing upper jawbone (74%) endodontic procedure. NaOCl concentration ranged from 1% to 10%, with 0.5 to 30 mL injected. Most cases (86%) corresponded to an accidental extrusion beyond the root apex to the periapical tissues, followed by tissular injection by error (8%) and extrusion into the maxillary sinus (3%). Local symptoms always occurred within 24 h, mostly pain (99%), edema (89%) and/or ecchymosis (61%). Complications were mainly neurological (29%), necrotic (22%) and cutaneous (9%). Most of patients (76%) fully recovered after medical management but 18 (24%) required surgical management. Conclusion: Any healthcare professional should be aware of the classical symptomatic triad of NaOCl accident with sudden pain, haemorrhage/ecchymosis and swelling, to start or recommend adequate management. Sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) is widely recognized for its broad-spectrum antimicrobial efficacy in skin wound care. This study investigates the effectiveness of NaOCl against a range of bacterial and fungal isolates from pressure ulcer (PU) patients. We analyzed 20 bacterial isolates from PU patients, comprising carbapenemresistant Klebsiella pneumoniae (CRKP), multidrug-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii (MDRAB), methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), methicillin-susceptible Staphylococcus aureus (MSSA), along with 5 Candida albicans isolates. Antibiotic resistance profiles were determined using standard susceptibility testing. Whole-genome sequencing (WGS) was employed to identify antimicrobial resistance genes (ARGs) and disinfectant resistance genes (DRGs). Genetic determinants of biofilm formation were also assessed. The antimicrobial activity of NaOCl was evaluated by determining the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and the minimal biofilm eradication concentration (MBEC) for both planktonic and biofilm-associated cells. CRKP and MDRAB showed resistance to fluoroquinolones and carbapenems, while MRSA exhibited resistance to ß-lactams and levofloxacin. MSSA displayed a comparatively lower resistance profile. WGS identified significant numbers of ARGs in CRKP and MDRAB, with fewer DRGs compared to MRSA and MSSA. All isolates possessed genes associated with fimbriae production and adhesion, correlating with pronounced biofilm biomass production. NaOCl demonstrated substantial antimicrobial activity against both planktonic cells and biofilms. The MIC90 for planktonic bacterial cells was 0.125 mg/mL, and the MBEC90 ranged from 0.225 to 0.5 mg/mL. For planktonic C. albicans, the MIC90 was 0.150 mg/mL, and the MBEC90 was 0.250 mg/mL. These results highlight the challenge in treating biofilm-associated infections and underscore the potential of NaOCl as a robust antimicrobial agent against difficult-to-treat biofilm infections at concentrations lower than those typically found in commercial disinfectants. Acetazolamide 1 is a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor used in the medical treatment of glaucoma, epileptic seizure, idiopathic intracranial hypertension, altitude sickness, etc. The synthesis of acetazolamide from the corresponding thiol derivative 4 requires oxidation and converting it to the sulfonyl chloride intermediate 5. This research aimed to enhance the safety, environmental conditions, and efficiency of the oxidation process by substituting chlorine gas for sodium hypochlorite (commercial bleach). The use of chlorine gas in place of conventional oxidation methods offered significant benefits, including the synthesis of several novel compounds with a high level of purity, specifically designated as 6a-6f. These novel compounds were produced through the reaction of synthesized key sulfonyl chloride 5 with various amines, hydrazones, and bis-amine precursors, leading to the creation of new sulfonamide derivatives. A thorough investigation was conducted to determine the antibacterial activity (ABA) and antioxidant activity (AOA) of the newly synthesized compounds. The results indicated that the ABA impact of the prefabricated bis-products (7a and 7b) was significantly higher than that of the standard mono-product (6a). This suggests that the bis-products possess enhanced antibacterial properties compared to their mono-product counterparts. Moreover, the hydrazine-based products synthesized (8a-8g) demonstrated remarkable efficacy against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. These products, particularly compound 9g, showed superior antibacterial effects when compared to commonly used antibiotics such as ciprofloxacin and tetracycline. This highlights the potential of these new compounds as effective antibacterial agents. In terms of antioxidant activity, a comparison with ascorbic acid revealed that compounds 9c, 9a, 9b, 9e, and 8d exhibited superior AOA. This indicates that these compounds have a strong potential to act as antioxidants, which can be beneficial in various applications where oxidative stress is a concern. In summary, the substitution of chlorine gas for sodium hypochlorite in the oxidation process not only improved safety and environmental conditions but also led to the efficient synthesis of highly pure novel compounds. These compounds displayed significant ABA and AOA, suggesting their potential as valuable agents in medical and industrial applications. The enhanced properties of the bis-products and hydrazine-based compounds, in particular, underscore the importance of this research in developing new, effective chemical entities. Future research will focus on further optimizing these compounds for clinical use, evaluating their pharmacokinetics and toxicity profiles, and exploring their applications in other therapeutic areas such as anticancer and antiviral treatments. Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate the removal efficiency of PRMTA and ECMPremixed applied to the coronal third according to the RET by UI and to examine the effect of different solutions on material removal. Materials and methods: 40 permanent upper central teeth were used to simulate immature teeth. The samples were irrigated with 1.5% NaOCl and calcium hydroxide was placed. Samples were incubated in PBS. Then irrigation was done with 17% EDTA, the samples were randomly divided into 2 groups (n = 20):Group 1: PRMTA, Group 2: ECM Premixed. The materials were placed in the samples. Then the samples were scanned with micro-CT. Materials were removed by UI. Micro-CT scan of the samples was performed. Each material group was divided into 2 subgroups (n = 10): Group1 was MTAD, group2 was irrigated with 10% CA; then micro-CT was performed. Obtained images were positioned in DataViewer and analyzed with CTAn. The obtained data were statistically analyzed in IBM SPSS 25. The significance level was determined as 5%. Results: There was no significant difference between the initial volumes of the materials (p > 0.05). The amount of the remaining material after UI was significantly higher in the PRMTA (0.7471%) group compared to the ECM Premixed (0.0093%). There was no significant difference in terms of remaining material after irrigation with MTAD and CA in both groups (p > 0.05). Conclusion: A great deal of the materials were removed by UI under the operation microscope. ECM Premixed was removed more effectively compared to the PRMTA. Background: Endodontic treatment is one of the main dental treatments to manage inflamed or infected root canal systems of teeth. The success of endodontic treatment principally depends on eradicating microorganisms in the root canal by chemo-mechanical debridement with irrigation solutions like sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl). NaOCl has been used in concentrations ranging from 0.5% to 5.25%. This study determined the antimicrobial effectiveness of selected concentrations (0.5%, 1.0%, 2.6%, and 5.2%) of NaOCl in endodontic treatment. Methods: The study sites were the University of Ghana Dental School (UGDS) and Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR). Sixty infected single-rooted single-canal teeth were used. Before (S1) and after (S2), root canal samples during the endodontic treatment with the selected concentrations of NaOCl were examined via anaerobic and aerobic cultures. The isolates were identified using Matrix Assisted Laser Desorption Ionization-Time Of Flight Mass Spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS). Results: All S1 samples were positive for cultivable bacteria. Fifty-three (53) different microbial species belonging to 20 different microbial genera were isolated. Streptococcus viridans was the most frequently isolated microbe. There were zero isolates in the root canals irrigated with 2.6% and 5.2% NaOCl. Two teeth had isolates in the groups irrigated with the lower concentrations (0.5% and 1.0%) of NaOCl. The persistent bacteria were one species each of Streptococcus mitis and Streptococcus oralis, respectively. Conclusion: Root canal treatments using chemo-mechanical preparation with the selected concentrations (0.5%, 1.0%, 2.6%, and 5.2%) of NaOCl were effective in significantly reducing the microbial load, and for the 5.2% and 2.6% concentrations, in eliminating all the microorganisms. The aim of this study was to compare the outcome and prognostic factors for partial and full pulpotomy in the management of mature teeth with spontaneous symptomatic pulpitis. The study was a parallel double-blind randomized clinical trial; 200 carious mature permanent teeth with spontaneous symptomatic pulpitis were randomized using a block randomization technique to either partial pulpotomy (n = 99) or full pulpotomy (n = 101). Intraoperative assessment of the pulp under magnification was performed, hemostasis was achieved with a 2.5% sodium hypochlorite moist pellet, and NeoPUTTY (Avalon Biomed, Bradenton, FL) was the pulpotomy material. Preoperative pain levels were recorded and re-evaluated after 1 week. Clinical and radiographic evaluation was performed after 6 and 12 months. Data were analyzed using the chi-square test, the Wilcoxon rank test, and regression analysis. At 1 week, immediate failure occurred in 4 cases in partial pulpotomy, and 196 of 200 subjects reported pain relief and were satisfied with the treatment with no significant difference. At 6 months, 6 teeth failed in the partial pulpotomy group and 1 tooth in the full pulpotomy group, with a higher success rate for full pulpotomy (98.96 vs 89.69, P =.003). At 12 months, the recall rate was 98% (96/200). Full pulpotomy was more successful than partial pulpotomy (98.98% [98/99] vs 84.53% [82/97], P <.001). Multivariate analysis revealed that the odds of success for full pulpotomy were 13.6 times higher than partial pulpotomy. Increased age and higher time to hemostasis were significantly associated with decreased odds of success. Full pulpotomy has a higher success rate than partial pulpotomy in the management of spontaneous symptomatic pulpitis. Hemostasis within 4 minutes in partial pulpotomy can be set as the cutoff point beyond which further tissue removal is indicated. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aim: To evaluate the effectiveness of electrochemical dissolution of stainless-steel #15 K-files in various irrigating solutions as well as their dissolution time. Materials and Methods: Twenty Dentsply Maillefer single-rooted endoblocks were used. A glide path was made up to a #15 K-file, and then, a ProTaper gold rotary instrument was used for preparation up to S1. Platinum wire electrodes, connecting wires, and a 9 V battery were used to form a circuit. Saline, 3% sodium hypochlorite, 17% EDTA liquid, and acidified hydrogen peroxide (HCl 10 g/L + H2 O2 100 g/L) were all used to submerge the endoblocks. The samples were assessed for dissolution time using a stopwatch, and electrochemical studies were performed for corrosion analysis of different irrigants. Results: The fastest dissolution of the files was observed with sodium hypochlorite (2 min 47 s), followed by acidified hydrogen peroxide (9 min 36 s). The presence of chloride ions in electrolyte solutions has been shown to be a factor directly affecting the rate of dissolution. EDTA demonstrated resilience to corrosion. The electrochemical studies confirmed a corrosion affinity with NaOCl and acidified hydrogen peroxide. Conclusion: The best solutions for dissolving stainless-steel K-files are sodium hypochlorite and acidified hydrogen peroxide. For clinical application and assessment of soft tissue effects, more studies are required. To meet the demanding technological needs of today, as well as eliminate the drawbacks, native starches have been chemically modified. Oxidation and acetylation have been widely employed to alter the chemical structure of starch. In this study, native Irish potato starch (NIPS) was chemically modified with acetic anhydride and sodium hypochlorite to produce oxidized (OIPS) and acetylated (AIPS) starch. The functional and pasting properties of NIPS, OIPS and AIPS were investigated. Oxidation and acetylation decreased the bulk density, pH, and water absorption capacity (WAC) of native Irish potato starch whereas an improvement was observed in the moisture content, the oil absorption capacity (OAC) and foam capacity with respect to chemical modification. Oxidation and acetylation increased the OAC of NIPS by 26.7% and 138%, and the foam capacity by 23.1% and 34.0%. Oxidation and acetylation decreased WAC by 18.75% and 61.27% respectively. Oxidation increased the dispersibility by 1.47% while acetylation decreased it by 4.94%. Oxidation increased peak and trough viscosities but reduced breakdown, final and setback viscosities, whereas acetylation increased peak, trough and breakdown viscosities but reduced final and setback viscosities. The high peak and final viscosities of NIPS, OIPS, and AIPS suggest that they could be used as thickeners in sterilizable products such as baby food and sauces. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objectives: The objective of this study was to analyze the available evidence on the performance of increase in temperature of sodium hypochlorite on its antimicrobial efficacy and tissue dissolution property. Materials and Methods: The study was conducted according to PRISMA guidelines, and a modified Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) tool was used for quality assessment of the included studies. Two reviewers independently performed an electronic search in four databases along with the reference lists of the included articles. Results: This systematic review included a total of 12 studies: antimicrobial efficacy (n = 6) and tissue dissolution property (n = 6). For the studies that were chosen, the overall risk of bias was moderate. Quantitative assessment through metaregression was performed for tissue dissolution property. Low-concentration sodium hypochlorite irrigant (=3%) shows a 0.13-unit times increase in tissue dissolution ability with a degree rise in temperature although not statistically significant. Conclusion: Due to inconsistency in the study parameters, results pertaining to the exclusive effect of increase in the temperature of sodium hypochlorite remain inconclusive. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aims: The aim of the study was to compare the activity of sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) against Enterococcus faecalis when used with four different irrigation protocols. Methodology: Sixty-five single-rooted mandibular premolars with closed apex were prepared till size 35/0.04. The specimens were sterilized and infected with E. faecalis colonies that were cultured separately. The canals were randomly divided into four experimental groups based on irrigation activation protocol, with each group having 15 specimens each - Group 1: control, Group 2: manual dynamic agitation (MDA), Group 3: passive ultrasonic irrigation (PUI), Group 4: intracanal heating (ICH), and Group 5: passive ultrasonic irrigation followed by ICH (PUI ICH). The dentinal shavings were collected and sampled before (S1) and after (S2) the different irrigation techniques were performed. The colony-forming units were counted, and the bacterial reduction was calculated for each group. Results: A significant reduction in the number of E. faecalis colonies was observed for all the experimental groups (P < 0.001). The groups with ICH of NaOCl showed a considerable reduction in bacterial colonies than other groups (P < 0.001), with Group 5 that combined ultrasonics with ICH showed the highest reduction. Conclusion: ICH of NaOCl may be used as an adjunct to root canal irrigation to reduce the bacterial concentration from root canal spaces. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Biological treatment with a stable activated sludge process, followed by chemical treatment is one of the potential and accepted cyanide remediation processes for coke plant wastewater treatment. Biologically treated coke plant wastewater contains free cyanide above permissible limit. Presently, chemical treatment with NaOCl is being used to attenuate free cyanide below permissible limit in biologically treated water. This process increases the TDS and colour content in discharge water. Ca(OCl)2 can be used as an alternative to NaOCl for cyanide remediation in biologically treated coke plant wastewater without increasing TDS. In the present work, cyanide removal efficiency of NaOCl and Ca(OCl)2 for real coke plant wastewater after biological treatment has been studied. Optimisation of chemical dosage, treatment time and pH study has been done for Ca(OCl)2 and NaOCl treatment. It was found that up to 90% of free cyanide removal could be achieved through Ca(OCl)2 treatment without increasing the TDS value. In addition, more than 50% colour of the wastewater was removed. pH elevation step required in NaOCl treatment can be eliminated in Ca(OCl)2 treatment, thereby reducing caustic consumption. The objective of this work was to assess the efficacy of different proteolytic agents on the bond strength of pit and fissure sealants to bovine enamel. Eighty-four bovine enamel specimens were randomly assigned in groups according to the pit and fissure sealant applied (HelioSeal F or Dyad Flow). Then, the specimens were subdivided according to the proteolytic agent used (n = 7): Group 1, distilled water (control); Group 2, 10 wt.% Tergazyme®; Group 3, 10 wt.% ZYME®; Group 4, 10% papain gel; Group 5, 10% bromelain gel; and Group 6, 5.25 wt.% sodium hypochlorite. The cell viability of the proteolytic solutions was assessed through the MTT assay. The proteolytic agents were applied on the enamel surface prior to the acid-etching procedure; then, the pit and fissure sealants were placed. The micro-shear bond strength was evaluated after 24 h or 6 months of water storing at 37 °C. Representative SEM images were taken for each experimental group. The bond strength data were statistically analyzed by a three-way ANOVA test using a significance level of α = 0.05. Bromelain and papain proteolytic solutions did not exert any cytotoxic effect on the human dental pulp cells. After 24 h and 6 months of aging, for both pit and fissure sealants, sodium hypochlorite, papain, bromelain, and Tergazyme® achieved statistically significant higher bond strength values (p < 0.05). Irrespective of the deproteinizing agent used, Dyad Flow resulted in a better bond strength after 6 months of aging. The type 1 etching pattern was identified for sodium hypochlorite, papain, and bromelain. Tergazyme®, papain, and bromelain demonstrated efficacy in deproteinizing enamel surfaces prior to acid etching, leading to the improved bond strength of pit and fissure sealants. Clinically, this suggests that these proteolytic agents can be considered viable alternatives to traditional methods for enhancing sealant retention and longevity.
