Mild steel corrosion is a significant challenge in oil and gas exploitation. Inhibitors are frequently employed to minimize the corrosive impact on mild steel. Mixing corrosion inhibitors is an effective method in reducing the dosage of toxic compounds and expanding the potential applications of inhibitors in NaCl solutions. Herein, a mixed corrosion inhibitor composed of imidazoline (IM), sodium molybdate, and sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate (SDBS) for mild steel in a 3.5 wt% NaCl solution are investigated by orthogonal experimental design and electrochemical measurement. The imidazoline compound was synthesized and identified using Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. The inhibitory effect is improved by higher concentrations of sodium molybdate and is further enhanced with the addition of 10 mg/L of SDBS. The electrochemical impedance spectroscopy indicates that the combination of IM (100 mg/L), sodium molybdate (50 mg/L), and SDBS (100 mg/L) results in excellent performance with electrochemical impedance (1.8 kohm·cm2). The mild steel surfaces after electrochemical measurement were analyzed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The information can contribute to the development of corrosion inhibitors with high performance or to understand the influence of mixing inhibitors on corrosion processes of mild steels. The discharge of synthetic surfactants into the environment poses a serious threat to natural water bodies, as even at relatively low concentrations, they harm the biological processes of aquatic organisms. The molecules of dissolved detergents, by wedging themselves between water molecules, weaken the surface film. The hydrophilic part promotes the dissolution of the substance in water, while the hydrophobic part repels it. As a result, the entire water surface is covered with a peculiar film, which leads to the accumulation of toxic substances and a decrease in the oxygen concentration in the aquatic environment. To study the impact of surfactants on living organisms, we assess the ecological impact of synthetic surfactants on the biota of natural water bodies. We performed toxicological bioassays of aqueous solutions with low concentrations of sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate on the crustacean Daphnia magna, which serves as a standard test organism both in Ukraine and abroad. The concentration of sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate that caused the mortality of 50% of test organisms (LC50) was determined, and the degree of toxicity of sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate to aquatic ecosystems was found according to the EU Directive 93/67/EEC. In this particular study, a hydrogel known as SAP-1 was synthesized through the grafting of acrylic acid-co-acrylamide onto pullulan, resulting in the creation of Pul-g-Poly (acrylic acid-co-acrylamide). Additionally, a sponge hydrogel named SAP-2 was prepared by incorporating the surfactant sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate (SDBS) into the hydrogel through free radical solution polymerization. To gain further insight into the composition and properties of the hydrogels, various techniques, such as Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, hydrogen nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR), atomic absorption spectroscopy, and field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), were employed. Conversely, the absorption kinetics and the equilibrium capacities of the prepared hydrogels were investigated and analyzed. The outcomes of the investigation indicated that each of the synthesized hydrogels exhibited considerable efficacy as adsorbents for cadmium (II), copper (II), and nickel (II) ions. In particular, SAP-2 gel displayed a remarkable cadmium (II) ion absorption ability, with a rate of 190.72 mg/g. Following closely, SAP-1 gel demonstrated the ability to absorb cadmium (II) ions at a rate of 146.9 mg/g and copper (II) ions at a rate of 154 mg/g. Notably, SAP-2 hydrogel demonstrated the ability to repeat the adsorption–desorption cycles three times for cadmium (II) ions, resulting in absorption capacities of 190.72 mg/g, 100.43 mg/g, and 19.64 mg/g for the first, second, and third cycles, respectively. Thus, based on the abovementioned results, it can be concluded that all the synthesized hydrogels possess promising potential as suitable candidates for the adsorption and desorption of cadmium (II), copper (II), and nickel (II) ions. The chemical method for decontaminating various systems and components contaminated with radioactive materials has the advantage of high efficiency and reduced radiation exposure to workers. However, this method has the disadvantage of generating organic liquid waste during the decontamination process. Electrochemical advanced oxidation processes (EAOP), which decompose organic matter, have been actively studied for treating organic liquid waste. Also, particles have been introduced to improve the efficiency of the EAOP. Therefore, when introducing particles into the EAOP, it is necessary to understand the mechanisms by which organic matter is removed. This study explored the role of Y2O3 particles in the removal of organic matter (sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate and oxalic acid). The total removal of organic matter was analyzed by considering the precipitation ratio, the particle-induced removal ratio, and the electrochemical oxidation ratio. When Y2O3 particles were added, the organic matter was effectively removed by precipitation and adsorption; however, the removal ratio by the EAOP decreased significantly. Furthermore, when using more than 40 g/L of Y2O3, it was found that the organic liquid waste could be treated without applying electrochemical oxidation through electrolyte concentration-dependent precipitation and particle-induced organic removal reactions. The purpose of this study was to establish a correlation between the effect of the pollutant content on the dimensional and physicochemical characteristics of the investigated solutions and its effect on aquatic organisms. To this end, the surface tension, electrical conductivity, pH, and redox potential of aqueous solutions of sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate were measured in a wide concentration range (10-7÷10-2 Ì). The change in the size and number of optical inhomogeneities was investigated using the small-angle reflection method in the micron range. In addition, the behavior of aquatic biological objects (Daphnia Magna) was studied in the investigated solutions. It was shown that the investigated concentration dependences (including the behavior of biological objects) are non-linear: they have either a stepped character or clearly expressed extremes and are well correlated with each other. A comfortable concentration range of sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate for daphnia (all daphnia are active within 58 hours of the experiment) was established (≈0.018- 0.037 mM). The correlation and nature of the concentration dependences indicate that at critical concentrations, structural rearrangements occur in sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate solutions, not only the formation of micelles and pre-micelles, but also structural rearrangements of the solvent (water) itself. Thus, it has been experimentally shown that the change in the structure of water during interaction with pollutants can significantly affect both the physicochemical properties of aqueous solutions and the behavior of aquatic biological objects. We present a new design for an interfacial dilational rheometer that can generate oscillatory dilational strain on a planar air–liquid interface. The strain is generated by a pneumatic mechanism involving a deformable film, which forms a circular barrier that can contract or expand under different pressures. The interfacial stress is measured using a Wilhelmy rod. We carefully examine and demonstrate the effects of potential sources of measurement error, including inertia, drag, buoyancy, flow from the bulk phase, and surface waves. The design avoids mixed deformations present in other instruments and is currently capable of accurate measurements at frequencies up to ∼0.1 Hz and dilational strains below 0.001, with potential for higher frequencies after further theoretical development. We demonstrate the integration of the interfacial dilational rheometer with a Langmuir trough by measuring the compression isotherm of an insoluble surfactant, stearic acid. Furthermore, we verify the capability of the interfacial dilational rheometer to perform frequency and amplitude sweeps and present the storage and loss moduli for a water-soluble surfactant, sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate, at different concentrations. Nanocomposites of Polypyrrole (Ppy), were synthesized by chemical oxidative polymerization of pyrrole, in the presence of mono and mixed‐surfactant solutions using ammonium persulfate as an oxidant and were investigated for its applications in super capacitors. The surfactants used in the experiments included anionic surfactants, sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) and sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate (SDBS) and cationic surfactants, tetradecyltrimethylammonium bromide (TTAB) as well as cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB). The morphology and structure of the resulting Ppy were investigated in detail with FESEM and FTIR, respectively. The addition of anionic surfactants produced globular morphology. The results showed that the interaction between the different surfactants and the interaction between the surfactants and the polymer influenced the morphology, structure and conductivity of the resulting polymer to different degrees. Apart from these, XRD, UV-Vis spectroscopy and cyclic voltammetry (CV) were also performed to characterize the prepared composites. In comparison with the results for mono surfactant solutions, the polymerization of pyrrole in mixed‐surfactant solutions shows significant changes in morphologies and electrochemical properties of Ppy. The results of CV show that the specific capacitance values of Ppy samples with anionic surfactants are greater than cationic surfactants. In case of mixed surfactants, sample with SDBS + TTAB posses highest specific capacitance of 204 Fg−1 at scan rate 100 mVs−1. The good electrochemical properties can be attributed to the highly porous structural advantage of the Ppy sample prepared using SDBS + TTAB. 1 g/L of different non-ionic surfactants i.e. BNO, bone glue, and sesbania gum and anionic surfactants i.e. NES, polyacrylamide (PAM), and sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate (SDBS) were added individually to an electrolyte composed of 120 g/L methanesulfonic acid (MSA) and 10 g/L Sn2+ for electrodeposition of tin. The effects of the six kinds of surfactants on the electrodeposition behavior of tin in the MSA electrolyte, and the phase structure, surface morphology, and weldability of the tin coating obtained therefrom were studied by cyclic voltammetry, contact angle measurement, Hull cell testing, X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and weldability testing. The results showed that all of the six surfactants can greatly improve the cathodic current efficiency and wettability of the electrolyte to copper substrate and the deposition rate of tin coating. Except for PAM, the said surfactants can inhibit the hydrogen evolution effectively. The electrolyte containing the anionic surfactant NES exhibited the best throwing power, the highest current efficiency, and the fastest deposition rate. The tin coating electroplated from it was smooth, fine-grained, and compact with the characteristic X-ray diffraction peaks of crystal planes (211), (112), and (321), and featured the best weldability. The conventional chemical polymerization of aniline has been described in multiple publications, while enzymatic polymerization has been poorly explored. A comparative study of the template-assisted enzymatic and chemical polymerization of aniline in a buffer solution of sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate micelles was performed for the first time. The high-redox potential laccase from the fungus Trametes hirsuta was used as a catalyst and air oxygen served as an oxidant. Potentiometric and spectral methods have shown that oligomeric/polymeric products of the enzymatic polymerization of aniline are synthesized in the conducting emeraldine salt form immediately after the reaction is initiated by the enzyme. The use of the laccase–mediator system enabled a higher rate of enzymatic polymerization and a higher yield of final products. Potassium octocyanomolybdate (IV) served as a redox mediator. The products of the enzymatic polymerization of aniline were studied by the ATR-FTIR, MALDI-TOF and atomic force microscopy methods. Poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) was electrosynthesized on nickel electrodes from aqueous micellar solutions of sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate (SDBS) containing sodium saccharin or sodium perchlorate as supporting electrolytes. The choice of the aqueous medium for the preparation of PEDOT is mainly dictated by its relevant interest on the economic and ecological fronts. The electrodeposition of the organic coating was achieved using cyclic voltammetry, chronoamperometry and chronopotentiometry. This latter electrochemical method proved to be the most suited to the preparation of homogeneous and adherent PEDOT films. Elsewhere, the presence of SDBS micelles in the electrolytic medium led to an improvement of the monomer solubility and a notable decrease in its oxidation potential. Furthermore, spectroscopic and microscopic characterization techniques revealed regular and compact nodule-like structure of the coating and proved the increase in its doping rate when increasing the electrosynthesis current density. On the other hand, in order to discuss the potential application of the prepared conducting polymer as protective layer against corrosion, several electrochemical tests were performed, using open circuit potential (OCP) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) methods. OCP curves have shown a slight increase in the potential toward more positive values, while the EIS measurements have given a 90° capacitive line indicating the pure capacitive behavior of the polymeric system and have proven the presence of a fast charge transfer at the metal/polymer and polymer/solution interfaces. Abstract A magnesium hydroxide co-precipitation sorbent-based method in the presence of an anionic surfactant (e.g., sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate) and high-performance liquid chromatography were used to preconcentrate and analyze fungicides in water and apple juice samples. The preconcentration procedure can be accomplished in a single step based on the co-precipitation of target fungicides and magnesium chloride in the presence of surfactant in a sodium hydroxide solution (pH 11) and a white precipitate gel was simply obtained after centrifugation. The property of precipitate phase was subsequently characterized using Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and X-ray diffractometry. Under the optimum conditions, the developed method exhibited good sensitivity, with an enrichment factor of 11–18 and limits of detection of approximately 1–5 μg/L for water samples and 7–10 μg/L for apple juices. High reproducibility was achieved with a relative standard deviation of less than 11%, and a good recovery range of 72% to 120% was also obtained. The proposed method was shown to be a simple preconcentration procedure for concentrating fungicides in the samples investigated.

Carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) has emerged in oil and gas industries as a superior substitution to the conventional HPAM and xanthan gum (XG) for high viscosity polymer flooding application. In this study, the combined effect of conventional surfactant, sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate (SDBS) and CMC for potential surfactant-polymer (SP) flooding in enhanced oil recovery (EOR) has been investigated. Thereafter, SDBS – CMC interaction and the functional groups present in CMC were appropriately identified. The presence of various C–O bonds signifies the existence of carboxymethyl group which greatly influence the rheological properties of CMC solution. The behaviour of SDBS–CMC was characterized by their viscosity, shear rate, solubilization, wettability, and surface tension. Tertiary flooding utilizing SDBS-CMC was performed and compared to commercial SDBS-XG SP flooding. The results indicate several SDBS-CMC combinations are favourable for EOR application. Solution viscosity shows direct relationship with CMC concentrations. Consequently, at any given SDBS concentrations, significant increment was observed at 0.3 wt% and above. However, the trend displayed inconclusive relation to SDBS fractions. Majority of the SDBS-CMC combinations generate Winsor III emulsions particularly at CMC of 0.2 and 0.3 wt%, while Type II were observed in few combinations. Increasing CMC concentrations increased the contact angle, while gradual reductions were observed with SDBS concentrations. The gradual reduction in surface tension was highly influenced by the addition of CMC rather than SDBS. A novel combination of 0.3 wt% SDBS and 0.4 wt% CMC possessed an encouraging criterion in term of viscosity, solubilization, and surface tension reduction for EOR application. Flooding experiment from several SDBS-CMC combinations proved to recover additional oil ranging 16.4–20.2% of oil initially in place (OIIP). The trend in incremental oil recovery is similar to that of when utilising SDBS-XG.

In water and wastewater, microplastics (MPs) are regarded as one of the emerging contaminants. Understanding how microplastics are removed in the current wastewater and water treatment system is important. The purpose of this study was to investigate how the coagulation process affected the removal of two different types of microplastics from tap water, including polyethylene (PE) and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and their mixture. Regarding the effectiveness of microplastic removal, the effects of different types of coagulants, such as AlCl3·6H2O and FeCl3·6H2O, doses of coagulants, solution pH, microplastic concentration, and water characteristics, as well as addition of surfactant sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate (SDBS), were thoroughly examined. The neutral pH value of tap water and the coagulant dose of 0.05 g/L resulted in the highest removal of MPs. When tap water was compared with ultrapure water, tap water with humic acid, and tap water with NaCl, the best coagulation efficiency was observed in tap water. The effectiveness of PE and PVC removal in both Al salt and Fe salt coagulation was greatly improved by the addition of SDBS. The elimination of PE and PVC was more than 90% successful for both tested coagulants at a dose of 0.025 g/L. Optimal parameters were also used to remove the analyzed materials in the mixture of PE and PVC. The efficiency of microplastic removal with the use of Al and Fe coagulants and SDBS was obtained at the level of 95.92% and 98.9%, respectively. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Recognizing the extreme speeds of reactions with microwaves, anionic forms of surfactants (sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) and sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate (SDBS)) have been intercalated successfully by ion-exchange reactions in binary Li-Al and ternary Li-M-Al (M = Mg, Co, Ni, Cu, and Zn) layered double hydroxide (LDH) systems with the aid of microwaves. The samples have been characterized extensively. The basal spacings of 28.2 and 30.4 Å have been estimated for Li-Al-DS and Li-Al-DBS LDH samples, respectively, suggesting a perpendicular arrangement of DS− and DBS− anions in the interlayer space. The characteristic vibration bands of both LDH and the surfactant (DS− and DBS−) in the FTIR spectra confirmed the binding mode of surfactant molecules within the interlayers. DS−-intercalated Li-Al LDH showed lower thermal stability than the DBS−-intercalated sample. The nitrate-intercalated Li-M-Al (M = Mg, Co, Ni, Cu, and Zn) LDHs were ion-exchanged with SDS and SDBS to yield DS−-and DBS−-intercalated systems. The expanded basal spacings and a change in crystallite morphology confirmed the vertical intercalation of DS− and DBS− in Li-M-Al LDHs. ICP-AES and elemental analyses determined the metal contents and the surfactant content. FTIR spectra of intercalated samples confirmed the surfactant's presence in the interlayer. The presence of Co, Ni, and Cu in Li-M-Al LDHs has been confirmed from UV-visible spectra. The Li-Al-DBS sample adsorbed iodine efficiently from methanol solutions, and the Langmuir model could explain the adsorption data in a better way. Procedures were developed for forming hollow cylindrical structures with the wall thickness in the micrometer range (microtubes) from chitosan solutions in citric, lactic, and glycolic acids. The procedures are based on the phase-transfer neutralization induced by the transport of ions (hereinafter, ion-induced reaction), occurring at the liquid–liquid or solid–liquid interface, namely, on the polymer-analogous conversion of the salt form of the polymer to the base form in a NaOH or triethanolamine medium or formation of a water-insoluble polyelectrolyte complex with sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate. Comparative analysis of the dependences of the morphological, structural, elastoplastic, physicomechanical, and biological properties of the structures on the reaction conditions and kind of the organic acid and neutralizing agent was made. The microtubes prepared from a chitosan solution in glycolic acid by ion-induced neutralization at the solid–liquid interface in a NaOH or triethanolamine medium exhibit the optimum levels of strength and elasticity, comparable with those of a fragment of human carotid artery and xenopericardial patch. Multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) are increasing used in commercial applications and may be released into the environment with anionic surfactants, such as sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate (SDBS), in sewer discharge. Little research has examined the transport, retention, and remobilization of MWCNTs in the presence or absence of SDBS in porous media with controlled chemical heterogeneity, and batch and column scale studies were therefore undertaken to address this gap in knowledge. The adsorption isotherms of SDBS on quartz sand (QS), goethite coated quartz sand (GQS), and MWCNTs were determined. Adsorption of SDBS (MWCNTs » GQS > QS) decreased zeta potentials for these materials, and produced a charge reversal for goethite. Transport of MWCNTs (5 mg L-1) dramatically decreased with an increase in the fraction of GQS from 0 to 0.1 in the absence of SDBS. Conversely, co-injection of SDBS (10 and 50 mg L-1) and MWCNTs radically increased the transport of MWCNTs when the GQS fraction was 0, 0.1, and 0.3, especially at a higher SDBS concentration, and altered the shape of retention profile. Mathematical modeling revealed that competitive blocking was not the dominant mechanism for the SDBS enhancement of MWCNT transport. Rather, SDBS sorption increased MWCNT transport by increasing electrostatic and/or steric interactions, or creating reversible interactions on rough surfaces. Sequential injection of pulses of MWCNTs and SDBS in sand (0.1 GQS fraction) indicated that SDBS could mobilize some of retained MWCNTs from the top to deeper sand layers, but only a small amount of released MWCNTs were recovered in the effluent. SDBS therefore had a much smaller influence on MWCNT transport in sequential injection than in co-injection, presumably because of a greater energy barrier to MWCNT release than retention. This research sheds novel insight on the roles of competitive blocking, chemical heterogeneity and nanoscale roughness, and injection sequence on MWCNT retention and release.

The solutal Marangoni effect is attracting increasing interest because of its fundamental role in many isothermal directional transport processes in fluids, including the Marangoni-driven spreading on liquid surfaces or Marangoni convection within a liquid. Here we report a type of continuous Marangoni transport process resulting from Marangoni-driven spreading and Marangoni convection in an aqueous two-phase system. The interaction between a salt (CaCl2) and an anionic surfactant (sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate) generates surface tension gradients, which drive the transport process. This Marangoni transport consists of the upward transfer of a filament from a droplet located at the bottom of a bulk solution, coiling of the filament near the surface, and formation of Fermat's spiral patterns on the surface. The bottom-up coiling of the filament, driven by Marangoni convection, may inspire automatic fiber fabrication. In this work, the authors describe a three-dimensional Marangoni transport process in an aqueous two-phase system. Layered double hydroxide (LDH) is of great interest for stabilizing toxic anions in the environment because its unique structure exposes numerous functional groups and high surface area and shows efficient ion-exchange capacity. However, little is known about the fundamental of the fluoride@LDH stabilization process to amend the contaminated soil, especially the underlying connection between stabilization efficiency and materials structure, which has never been addressed. Herein, Mg–Al LDH and its modified products, calcined LDH (C–LDH), sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate intercalated LDH (SDBS–LDH), and diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid intercalated LDH (DTPA–LDH), were synthesized by different methods and applied to the fluoride stabilization for polluted soil. The maximum stabilization capacity of C–LDH, SDBS–LDH, and DTPA–LDH was 713.33, 753.33, and 855.00 mg·g−1, respectively. Various characterization and analysis methods were utilized to elucidate the stabilization mechanism. Based on the kinetic and isotherm analyses, chemisorption dominated the stabilization process and mainly occurred in a monolayer on the well-distributed active sites of materials. For the two intercalation products, anion-exchangeable interlayer sites and surface functional groups contributed the most capacity for fluoride adsorption leading to an excellent performance. Membrane distillation (MD) is a technology that has proven to be highly efficient in desalination. However, the occurrence of membrane wetting can lead to the failure of the process. Given this, we developed an electroactive membrane (RC-M) using carbon nanotubes and reduced graphene oxide. The wettability of RC-M was then examined after treatment with cationic or anionic surfactants in brines during the conductive heating membrane distillation process. Results indicated that the RC-M had an abundance of charged functional groups and multiple defects in the graphene structure. Using 0.3 mol/L NaCl and 30 mg/L sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate (SDBS), the RC-M worked for 600 mins with 97.2 % rejection. While, in a feed with hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide, rejection dropped to 93.6 % in 350 minutes. When a potential was applied to the RC-M, the SDBS displayed electrostatic repulsion when interacting with the membrane, thereby preventing its adsorption. Moreover, the interaction between the feed and the charged RC-M caused electrolysis, and the resultant bubbles helped reduce wetting. Additionally, the RC-M itself possessed a hydrophilic layer that aided in mitigating wetting. Graphene nanofluids have emerged as potential alternatives to improve the thermal efficiency of different engineering devices. However, their use in different applications that include polar liquids as base fluids is a problem due to the hydrophobic nature of graphene. In this study, we compared methods that use surfactants with those that employ surface oxidation (surfactant-free) to improve the dispersion of graphene in water and its stability over time. Cetyltrimethylammonium bromide and sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate (SDBS), at their critical micelle concentration in water, were used as surfactants to prepare commercial graphene dispersions, and the electrochemical method was adopted to synthesize GO. Additionally, the effect of the concentration of electrolyte (sodium sulfate, Na2SO4) on oxygen functionalities in GO synthesis was evaluated and associated with nanofluid stability. The nanomaterials were characterized by thermogravimetric analysis, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, and scanning electron microscopy. Nanofluid stability was evaluated using the zeta potential and UV–VIS spectroscopy. The results show that the electrolyte has an important effect on the oxidation degree of the GO obtained: a high electrolyte concentration (0.5 M) produced the highest oxygen functionalities. Surfactants tend to adsorb on the surface/interface mostly in a directional manner. The alkyl chain orientation and conformation order for molecular monolayers of sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate (SDBS) at low concentrations are studied by using the sum frequency generation vibrational spectroscopy (SFG-VS). The molecular arrangement of the surfactants adsorbed at the solid/liquid interface is further investigated. It is found that the arrangement of the SDBS at the interface becomes relatively ordered with increasing bulk concentration. Meanwhile, the orientation angle reduces gradually, and the molecules tend to be upright state. In addition, the effect of friction on the conformation order and orientation angle are also analyzed. The intensity of the SDBS vibrational contraction peak becomes lower after friction, which indicates that the anion has a reorientation process at the interface. The arrangement of molecules becomes more disordered due to friction. The orientation angle increases slightly, which indicates the monolayer has an inclined trend relative to the lateral direction on the interface. A modified adsorption model considering friction effect is proposed. This work may provide a reference for the further study of adsorption mechanism and application of surfactants. Ionic surfactants are widely used in coal dust control in mines, and their adsorption characteristics on the coal surface have a great influence on the coal dust control effect. In this investigation, anionic sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate (SDBS) and cationic octadecyltrimethylammonium chloride (STAC) were selected to explore the adsorption characteristics of ionic surfactants on the surface of anthracite. The experimental results show that the adsorption rate and efficiency of STAC on the surface of anthracite are higher than that of SDBS; STAC can form a denser surfactant layer on the surface of anthracite, with a larger adsorption capacity and higher strength. Molecular dynamics simulations show that the adsorption between STAC and the surface of anthracite is tighter, and the distribution at the coal–water interface is more uniform; the surface of anthracite modified by STAC has a stronger binding ability to water molecules. The electrochemical oxidation (ECO) of aqueous solutions of organic complexing agents [ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA), nitrilotriacetic acid (NTA), diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid (DTPA)] and surfactants [sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate (anionic surfactant) and OP-10 (nonionic surfactant)] was studied using a flow-through modular electrochemical element MB-11T-06. It is shown that the degree of their oxidation reaches 95% during the ECO of complex ions solutions. The introduction of chloride ions up to 1 g/dm3 into the initial solutions increases the ECO rate of complex ions by about 3 times. ECO of surfactant solutions in the presence of 1 g/dm3 chloride ions removes more than 99% of anionic surfactants and about 85% of nonionic surfactants. Electrochemical treatment of solutions containing complex ions and chloride ions increases the efficiency of sorption purification of solutions from 137Cs radionuclides on the FNS ferrocyanide sorbent by 1–2 orders of magnitude and from 152Eu on sulfonic acid cation exchange resin by 4–5 orders of magnitude. The efficiency of 152Eu co-precipitation with iron(III) hydroxide after ECO increases by 3 orders of magnitude. The conclusion was drawn that the ECO method is highly promising for removing various organic complexing agents and surfactants from aqueous solutions, as well as from liquid radioactive waste. Addition of inhibitor is an efficient and feasible method to delay the corrosion of magnesium alloys. Longan residue extract (LRE) is a promising inhibitor with the sustainable and abundant advantages. However, the inhibition efficiency of LRE is only 80.01% in NaCl solution, which would not supply the efficient protection for the Mg alloys. The other inhibitor, sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate (SDBS), is employed to refine the anti-corrosion performance. The anti-corrosion performance of hybrid inhibitor is investigated by electrochemical measurements, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffractometer (XRD), and atomic force microscopy (AFM). The inhibition efficiency can be remarkably increased to 92.15% due to the synergistic effects of LRE and SDBS. The anti-corrosion performance would be further increased to 95.67% if the Mg alloys are soaked in the solution including the hybrid inhibitors for 12 h. Nanoemulsions are colloidal systems with a wide spectrum of applications in several industrial fields. In this study, crude oil-in-water (O/W) nanoemulsions were formulated using different dosages of the anionic sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate (SDBS) surfactant. The formulated nanoemulsions were characterized in terms of emulsion droplet size, zeta potential, and interfacial tension (IFT). Additionally, the rheological behavior, long-term stability, and on-demand breakdown of the nanoemulsions via a pH-responsive mechanism were evaluated. The obtained results revealed the formation of as low as 63.5 nm average droplet size with a narrow distribution (33–142 nm). Additionally, highly negative zeta potential (i.e., −62.2 mV) and reasonably low IFT (0.45 mN/m) were obtained at 4% SDBS. The flow-ability of the nanoemulsions was also investigated and the obtained results revealed an increase in the nanoemulsion viscosity with increasing the emulsifier content. Nonetheless, even at the highest SDBS dosage of 4%, the nanoemulsion viscosity at ambient conditions never exceeded 2.5 mPa·s. A significant reduction in viscosity was obtained with increasing the nanoemulsion temperature. The formulated nanoemulsions displayed extreme stability with no demulsification signs irrespective of the emulsifier dosage even after one-month shelf-life. Another interesting and, yet, surprising observation reported herein is the pH-induced demulsification despite SDBS not possessing a pH-responsive character. This behavior enabled the on-demand breakdown of the nanoemulsions by simply altering their pH via the addition of HCl or NaOH; a complete and quick oil separation can be achieved using this simple and cheap demulsification method. The obtained results reveal the potential utilization of the formulated nanoemulsions in oilfield-related applications such as enhanced oil recovery (EOR), well stimulation and remediation, well-bore cleaning, and formation fracturing. Multi-wall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) exhibit exceptional mechanical and electrical properties and can be used to improve the mechanical and piezoelectric properties of cement-based materials. In the present study, the effect of different MWCNT concentrations as well as different types of surfactants and a superplasticizer were examined to reinforce, at the nanoscale, a white cement mortar typically used for the restoration of monuments of cultural heritage. It was shown that sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate (SDBS) and Triton X-100 surfactants slightly decreased the white cement mortars' electrical resistivity (by an average of 10%), however, the mechanical properties were essentially decreased by an average of 60%. The most suitable dispersion agent for the MWCNTs proved to be the superplasticizer Ceresit CC198, and its optimal concentration was investigated for different MWCNT concentrations. Carboxylation of the MWCNT surface with nitric acid did not improve the mechanical performance of the white cement nanocomposites. The parametric experimental study showed that the optimum combination of 0.8 wt% of cement superplasticizer and 0.2 wt% of cement MWCNTs resulted in a 60% decrease in the electrical resistivity; additionally, the flexural and compressive strengths were both increased by approximately 25% and 10%, respectively. Precise estimation of sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate (DBS) is essential for understanding its adsorption in soils, transport, toxicity, fate, and its application in the remediation of contaminated soil and groundwater. DBS can be easily identified by its conjugated double bond systems of benzene rings under the ultraviolet (UV) spectrum of a spectrophotometer. However, benzene group components of dissolved organic matter (DOM) also absorb light in the UV spectrum, and this effect is responsible for the excess quantities of DBS that are falsely measured by spectrophotometers. This study was conducted to propose a method for accurately measuring the DBS concentration of a solution containing DOM. To elucidate the influence of DOM during the UV‐spectroscopic measurement of DBS in an aqueous solution, 222.5 nm UV and 400 nm UV–vis spectra were measured. The DOM was extracted from a highly humic non‐allophanic volcanic ash (Andosol) soil by using 1 mmol NaCl/L and 100 mmol NaCl/L solutions as the extractants. The absorbances at both 222.5 and 400 nm increased in proportion to the increase in the DOM concentration. The relationship between the absorbances at the two different wavelengths could be expressed as a linear relationship. On the other hand, the absorbance at 400 nm did not increase with the increase in the DBS concentration, whereas the absorbance at 222.5 nm increased with the increase in the DOM concentration. Therefore, we inferred that the influence of DOM on the absorbance value of the DBS–DOM complex solution at 222.5 nm could be eliminated by using the linear relationship between the two different absorbances of the DBS‐free DOM solution. This method makes it possible to easily measure the DBS concentration of a solution from soil water, streams or industrial effluents containing DOM, without using reagents. In this paper, Bismuth oxychloride (BiOCl) with a 3D network structure was prepared via a simple one-step sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate (SDBS) assisted hydrothermal method and used for CO 2 reduction and antibiotic degradation. Consideration was given to the influence of addition of SDBS in the preparation process on the microscopic morphology and energy band structure of the photocatalyst. The results of the present study indicate that the formation of the 3D network structure helps to expose the {001} facets of BiOCl and promotes the generation of more oxygen vacancies. As-prepared BiOCl-0.6, i.e., 0.78 g of Bi(NO 3) 3 ·5H 2 O with 0.6 g SDBS, demonstrating the highest photocatalytic reduction performance of CO 2. The production of CO by BiOCl-0.6 can reach 59.5 and 20.1 µmol g−1 after 4 h of UV-vis/vis illumination, which is ten times higher than the control BiOCl. In addition, BiOCl prepared with a 3D network structure also showed efficient antibiotic (oxytetracycline hydrochloride, OTC) degradation ability. When the initial concentration of OTC was 20 mg/L, OTC was completely removed after 45 min of UV-vis irradiation, and 77.2% of OTC was removed after 90 min of photocatalytic reaction under visible light. A series of gentamicin‐modified anion exchange membranes (AEMs) immobilized by mussel‐inspired dopamine coating is prepared in this work. The purpose is to improve antibacterial activity and fouling resistance of the commercial AEMs (AEM Type I, Fujifilm Co.). As a result of the applied modification, the hydrophilicity of membrane surface improved significantly. Thus, the as‐prepared modified AEMs exhibit the good antifouling property, in electrodialysis (ED) experiments by using the sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate and albumin from bovine serum as model foulants. Furthermore, taking into account the results of the antibacterial test, the resulting modified AEMs exhibit improved antibacterial property for Escherichia coli (E. coli) and Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus). After a brief contact with bacteria, the antibacterial rates of modified AEMs coating with gentamicin‐based polymer are 80.11% for E. coli and 90.66% for S. aureus, which are much higher than pristine AEM (6.28% and 9.07%), respectively. In addition, the modified membrane has good operational stability during ED process and recovery ability after contamination, and also maintains satisfactory electrochemical properties. Cellulose was chemically derivatized via the 6-deoxy-6-chloro cellulose (CCl) and 6-deoxy-6-(ethylene-1,2-diamine) cellulose (CCl-En) intermediates synthesis followed by azomethine coupling with salicylaldehyde to obtain 6-deoxy-6-(ethylene-1,2-diamine) cellulose salicylaldehyde azomethine base (CCl-En-Sal). These modified cellulose derivatives were characterized by FT-IR, 13C CP/MAS NMR, TG and SEM–EDX techniques. The cellulose azomethine salicylaldehyde (CCl-En-Sal) were exploited for demetallization of Ni and V from the metal porphyrins present in crude oil. For this, diluted mangla crude oil was mixed with water doped CCl-En-Sal with varying amounts ranging from 100 to 1000 ppm. The emulsion was made by using the 0.1% (m/v) SDBS (sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate) emulsifier. The de-emulsification was carried out and Ni and V content analysis in the separated oil layer revealed that CCl-En-Sal is effective as demetallization agent for both Ni and V from crude oil. We investigated the origin of n-type thermoelectric properties in single-wall carbon nanotube (SWCNT) films with anionic surfactants via experimental analyses and first-principles calculations. Several types of anionic surfactants were employed to fabricate SWCNT films via drop-casting, followed by heat treatment at various temperatures. In particular, SWCNT films with sodium dodecylbenzene sulfonate (SDBS) surfactant heated to 350 °C exhibited a longer retention period, wherein the n-type Seebeck coefficient lasted for a maximum of 35 days. In x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, SWCNT films with SDBS surfactant exhibited a larger amount of sodium than oxygen on the SWCNT surface. The electronic band structure and density of states of SWCNTs with oxygen atoms, oxygen molecules, water molecules, sulfur atoms, and sodium atoms were analyzed using first-principles calculations. The calculations showed that sodium atoms and oxygen molecules moved the Fermi level closer to the conduction and valence bands, respectively. The water molecules, oxygen, and sulfur atoms did not affect the Fermi level. Therefore, SWCNT films exhibited n-type thermoelectric properties when the interaction between the sodium atoms and the SWCNTs was larger than that between the oxygen molecules and the SWCNTs. A novel polyether-polyquaternium (PPA) demulsifier was prepared to dispose the alkali–surfactant–polymer flooding-produced water. The PPA replaced the sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate (SDBS) on the oil/water interface and formed incompact interfacial film that destabilizes the oil droplets, making the oil/water separation easily achieved. Herein, we investigated the effects of the demulsifier structure and solution environment conditions (pH, temperature, and salinity) on the demulsification process. The highest demulsification efficiency reached 82.6% at pH of 6 and temperature of 60°C. Polyaniline/antimony oxide (PAn/Sb2O3) nanocomposite was prepared in aqueous media by the chemical polymerisation of aniline using ammonium peroxydisulfate (APS) as an oxidant in the presence of sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate (DBSNa) and poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) (PVP) as surfactants. The application of PAn nanocomposite for the removal of Hg(II) from aqueous solutions was investigated. The chemical structure and morphology were studied by fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The results indicate that the Sb2O3 and type of surfactant influence the properties of products. Adsorption studies were directed in a batch system as a function of solution pH, contact time and initial Hg(II) concentration. The optimum conditions of sorption were found to be: pH 6 and contact time of 40 min. The equilibrium adsorption capacity was obtained by using Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models. The data were better fitted by using the Freundlich model. Analysis of the adsorptive behaviour of kaolinite to sodium dodecyl benzene sulphonate (SDBS) at different concentrations can provides a basis for selecting the best concentration. The adsorptive capacity and adsorptive behaviour of kaolinite to SDBS at different concentrations were studied using ultraviolet spectrophotometer, pseudo-first-order adsorption kinetics model, and pseudo-second-order adsorption kinetics model. Scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive spectrometry (SEM–EDS), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) were used to study the variation characteristics of surface structure, crystallinity indices, and main functional groups on kaolinite before, and after, adsorption. The results show that as the SDBS concentration increase, the adsorptive capacity of kaolinite to SDBS increase. The adsorption process can be accurately fitted by the pseudo-secondary adsorption kinetic model, which means the adsorptive behaviour was mainly chemical in origin. The adsorption of SDBS by kaolinite mainly occurs on the surface. The solidification, lamellar aggregation, and crystallinity index of kaolinite are more obvious after the adsorption of SDBS, but the interlayer spacing of kaolinite did not change to any significant. After the adsorption of SDBS, the intensity ratio of 1000–1008 cm−1 bands changed significantly, indicating the change of the chemical environment, and the adsorptive behaviour was chemical. Low Salinity Water (LSW) incorporates in surfactant Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) as a pre-flush is a common practice aiming to reduce the formation salinity, which affects surfactant adsorption. However, in a field implementation, the adsorption of surfactant is unavoidable, so creating a scheme that detaches the trapped surfactant is equally essential. In this study, LSW was a candidate to enhance the desorption of surfactant. LSW solely formulated from NaCl (1 wt.%), Sodium Dodecylbenzene Sulfonate (SDBS) was chosen as the primary surfactant at its critical micelle concentration (CMC, 0.1 wt.%). It found that injecting LSW as post-flush achieved up to 71.7% of SDBS desorption that lower interfacial tension against oil (31.06° API) to 1.3 mN/m hence bring the total Recovery Factor (RF) to 56.1%. It was 4.9% higher than when LSW injecting as pre-flush and 5.2% greater than conventional surfactant flooding (without LSW). Chemical analysis unveiled salinity reduction induces Na+ ion adsorption substitution onto pore surface resulting in an increment in surfactant desorption. The study was further conducted in a numerical simulation upon history matched with core-flood data reported previously. By introducing LSW in post-flush after SDBS injection, up to 5.6% RF increased in comparison to other schemes. Utilization of metal-oxide nanoparticles (NPs) in enhanced oil recovery (EOR) has generated substantial recent research interest in this area. Among these NPs, zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO-NPs) have demonstrated promising results in improving oil recovery due to their prominent thermal properties. These nanoparticles can also be polarized by electromagnetic (EM) field, which offers a unique Nano-EOR approach called EM-assisted Nano-EOR. However, the impact of NPs concentrations on oil recovery mechanism under EM field has not been well established. For this purpose, ZnO nanofluids (ZnO-NFs) of two different particle sizes (55.7 and 117.1 nm) were formed by dispersing NPs between 0.01 wt.% to 0.1 wt.% in a basefluid of sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate (SDBS) and NaCl to study their effect on oil recovery mechanism under the electromagnetic field. This mechanism involved parameters, including mobility ratio, interfacial tension (IFT) and wettability. The displacement tests were conducted in water-wet sandpacks at 95˚C, by employing crude oil from Tapis. Three tertiary recovery scenarios have been performed, including (i) SDBS surfactant flooding as a reference, (ii) ZnO-NFs flooding, and (iii) EM-assisted ZnO-NFs flooding. Compare with incremental oil recovery from surfactant flooding (2.1% original oil in place/OOIP), nanofluid flooding reaches up to 10.2% of OOIP at optimal 0.1 wt.% ZnO (55.7 nm). Meanwhile, EM-assisted nanofluid flooding at 0.1 wt.% ZnO provides a maximum oil recovery of 10.39% and 13.08% of OOIP under EM frequency of 18.8 and 167 MHz, respectively. By assessing the IFT/contact angle and mobility ratio, the optimal NPs concentration to achieve a favorable ER effect and interfacial disturbance is determined, correlated to smaller hydrodynamic-sized nanoparticles that cause strong electrostatic repulsion between particles. Our research objective was to develop novel drug delivery vehicles consisting of TiO2 and Al2O3 nanoparticles encapsulated by a bilayer shell that allows the reversible embedment of hydrophobic drugs. The first shell is formed by covalent binding of hydrophobic phosphonic acid at the metal oxide surface. The second shell composed of amphiphilic sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate emerges by self-aggregation driven by hydrophobic interactions between the dodecylbenzene moiety and the hydrophobic first shell. The resulting double layer provides hydrophobic pockets suited for the intake of hydrophobic drugs. The nanoparticles were loaded with the anticancer drugs quercetin and 7-amino-4-methylcoumarin. Irradiation with X-rays was observed to release the potential anticancer drugs into the cytoplasm. In Michigan Cancer Foundation (MCF)-10 A cells, quercetin and 7-amino-4-methylcoumarin acted as antioxidants by protecting the non-tumorigenic cells from harmful radiation effects. In contrast, these agents increased the reactive oxygen species (ROS) formation in cancerous MCF-7 cells. Quercetin and 7-amino-4-methylcoumarin were shown to induce apoptosis via the mitochondrial pathway in cancer cells by determining an increase in TUNEL-positive cells and a decrease in mitochondrial membrane potential after irradiation. After X-ray irradiation, the survival fraction of MCF-7 cells with drug-loaded nanoparticles considerably decreased, which demonstrates the excellent performance of the double-layer stabilized nanoparticles as drug delivery vehicles. The foaming and foam stabilization mechanisms of potassium laurate (PL), potassium oleate (PO), sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), and sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate (SDBS) were investigated in this study. Magnesia porous ceramics were fabricated by a foaming method, and the sample microstructures were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) following heat treatment. Results showed that the foaming ability of the surfactants decreased in the order PO > SDS > SDBS > PL. The addition of calcium stearate (CS), a foam-stabilizing agent, extended the half-lives of SDS, SDBS, and PO foams in the order SDBS > PO > SDS. However, the addition of CS to PL significantly decreased its foam half-life. Pore sizes of the heat-treated samples decreased in the order PL > SDS > SDBS > PO, while the evenness of the pore distribution decreased in the order PO > SDBS > SDS > PL. This article is devoted to the influence of sodium lignosulfonate (SL), anionic surfactants (sodium dodecylsulfate (SDS), sodium dodecylbenzene sulfonate (SDBS)), and their mixtures on the copper cementation rate by zinc. The results demonstrated a copper cementation rate decreasing at LS and SDBS concentrations increasing. Excessive zinc consumption was also detected on copper-ion cementation due to LS and SDBS anion adsorption onto positively charged zinc cathodic areas and copper particles. This led to a decrease in the growth rate of nuclei of copper particles and energy consumption for the formation of new nucleation centers, as well as the creation of conditions for reducing the overvoltage of hydrogen evolution. At the same time, an increase in temperature led to zinc consumption decreasing in the presence of LS. The reagents under investigation could be ranked according to their degree of negative influence on copper cementation increasing in the following order: SDS < SDBS < LS. Testing LS and SDS mixtures showed their irregular influence on the copper cementation rate at different temperatures. In experiments with LS and SDBS mixtures, a linear decrease in the copper-ion cementation rate upon an increase in SDBS concentration and simultaneous zinc-consumption enhancement was fixed. Due to the negative influence of the investigated reagents, we offered a purification method from organic impurities through the use of multilayered alumosilicates modified by cationic surfactants. The results indicate the high effectiveness of removing organic impurities from solutions, which allowed us to increase the cementation rate in the presence of the LS and SDBS mixture by 50% while, at the same time, decreasing zinc consumption. Here, we present the microemulsion method using sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate and hydrofluoric acid for the in situ synthesis of brightly luminescent CsPbBr3/CsPb2Br5 composite nanocrystals (NCs) in aqueous solution. The obtained CsPbBr3/CsPb2Br5 composite NCs exhibit a photoluminescence quantum yield of 77.0% and a full width at half maximum of 16.0 nm. And solid-state back-lighting devices were fabricated by combining CsPbBr3/CsPb2Br5 composite NCs and red-emitting K2SiF6:Mn4+ phosphors with blue light. The as-fabricated device exhibits a wide color gamut of about 95.8% of the Rec. 2020. This work provides a green, low-cost, and in situ water-phase route to synthesize high-quality cesium lead halide NCs for their practical applications in solid-state back-lighting devices. Transparent dispersions of hydrophobic SrF2 : Eu3+ nanoparticles in cyclohexane with up to 20% europium were obtained by fluorolytic sol‐gel synthesis followed by phase transfer into cyclohexane through capping with sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate (SDBS). The particles were characterized by TEM, XRD and DLS as spherical objects with a diameter between 6 and 11 nm in dry state. 1H‐13CP MAS NMR experiments revealed the binding of the anionic sulfonate head group to the particle surface. The particles show bright red luminescence upon excitation of the aromatic capping agents, acting as antennas for an energy transfer from the benzenesulfonate unit to the Eu3+ centers in the particles. This synthesis method overcomes the current obstacle of the fluorolytic sol‐gel synthesis that transparent dispersions can be obtained directly only in hydrophilic solvents. To demonstrate the potential of such hydrophobized alkaline‐earth fluoride particles, transparent luminescent organic‐inorganic composites with 10% SrF2 : Eu3+ embedded into polyTEGDMA, polyBMA, polyBDDMA and polyD3MA, respectively, were prepared, endowing the polymers with the luminescence features of the nanoparticles. A new type of core–shell composite material was prepared and applied as a hydrophilic interaction liquid chromatography (HILIC) stationary phase. In this work, silica spheres were first modified with a bimetallic central metal–organic framework (ZnCoMOF) by a new strategy of static self-assembled in situ growth. This strategy was beneficial for increasing the electrostatic interaction between the MOF ligand and silica via introducing a sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate (SDBS) group. The ZnCoMOF@silica stationary phase was characterized and evaluated in comparison with amino-modified and bare silica columns in terms of various polar analytes including eight nucleosides and nucleobases, seven carbohydrates, and multiple sulfonamides and antibiotics. The effects of organic solvent concentration, water content, the concentration of the salt and the pH of the buffer solution on the retention time were studied, which demonstrated the typical retention behavior of HILIC on the ZnCoMOF@silica column. Compared with most reported MOF-based stationary phases, the new composite material showed excellent hydrophilic properties and separation efficiency for various polar analytes. Moreover, the obtained stationary phase showed good reproducibility and stability. The relative standard deviation (RSD) of the retention time for repeatability was found to range from 0.1% to 0.6%, and the RSD of the retention time for stability was found to range from 0.3% to 0.7%. Furthermore, the column batch-to-batch reproducibility showed excellent preparation reproducibility, which few reported in most previous MOF@silica composite materials. This specific preparation method offers an easy and novel way to manipulate the amount of MOF particles on silica, which extends a universal way to produce various MOF@silica stationary phases by the method of static self-assembled in situ growth. The adsorption rate of sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate (SDBS) on three commercial activated carbons (ACs) and an AC synthesized from almond shells was investigated in this study. The mechanisms controlling the overall adsorption rate of SDBS on ACs were found out by using the pore volume and surface diffusion model (PVSDM). The PVSDM showed that the intraparticle diffusion of SDBS in all ACs was mainly attributed to pore volume diffusion and surface diffusion. The surface diffusion coefficient, Ds, in all samples of ACs are influenced by the amount of surfactant adsorbed at equilibrium, qe, as well as the mean micropore width, L0. The contribution of surface diffusion to the overall intraparticle diffusion ranged from 45 to 70%, depending on the properties of AC. Moreover, the branched-pore diffusional model was revisited (BPDMR) assuming that the Fick diffusion is the only diffusion mechanism in the macropores and the diffusion in the micropores was represented by the micropore rate coefficient, KC. Besides, it was proposed that the parameter f representing the mass fraction of SDBS adsorbed on macropores, can be estimated from the textural properties of ACs. Three new strategies were proposed to analyze the experimental data using BPDMR model, and it was demonstrated that the macropore diffusivity in BPDMR is close to the molecular diffusivity of SDBS in water solution. The micropore rate constant, KC, ranged from 3.90 × 10−6 to 10.6 × 10−6 s−1 and was affected by textural characteristics of ACs. Two surface active ionic liquids (ILs) having 1-alkyl-3-methylimidazolium cationic moiety and dodecylbenzenesulfonate based anionic moiety i.e. [C5mim][DBS] and [C7mim][DBS], have been synthesized. 1H-NMR, thin layer chromatography were done for their characterization. These DBS-ILs have lower critical micelle concentration (CMC) in comparison with their conventional sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate [Na][DBS] surfactants and hence are highly surface active. The conductance, surface tension, absorption (UV-visible) and emission (Fluorescence) techniques were used to determine the CMC values. DBS-ILs showed a remarkable absorption and emission spectra where intensity changes with variation in concentration of IL. Micelle self-assembly formation was also predicted by dynamic light scattering (DLS) technique. Conductance and surface tension techniques were employed to study the aggregation behavior in aqueous conditions. Various surface active parameters were evaluated at 298.15 K employing surface tension techniques. Conductance measurements were performed at three rising temperatures (288.15, 298.15, and 308.15) K and their thermodynamic parameters were calculated. Template polymerization of aniline was performed using a laccase-mediator system. The high redox-potential laccase from the basidiomycete fungus Trametes hirsuta was a catalyst for polymerization. The aniline dimer served as the redox mediator; atmospheric oxygen served as the oxidant. Sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate micelles were used as a "soft" template. The biocatalytic polymerization of aniline resulted in conducting polyaniline/sodium dodecylbenzene sulfonate complex that was tested as a protective coating. The efficiency of the inhibition of copper corrosion by the complex was 86–87%, and the dissipation rate of positive and negative charges from cotton fabrics increased by 56 and 27 times, respectively.
