Theories of justice suggest that it serves two main purposes: punishment and restoration. Although punishment emerges early and has been well-documented, little is known about the contexts in which young children engage in restorative practices like compensation for victims. The current study investigated whether children's engagement in compensation and punishment (which often involve a redistribution of resources) was sensitive to characteristics of the perpetrator and victim known to shape distributive justice decisions (decisions about how resources should be distributed), such as social dominance, resource inequality, and moral character. A total of 54 children aged 3 to 7 years completed a series of moral judgment experiments. Each experiment featured interactions between a perpetrator and a victim, ending with the perpetrator stealing the victim's toy. In Experiment 1 (N = 44), social dominance did not affect punishment or compensation overall, but older children compensated the dominant victim (but not the subordinate victim) less than younger children. In Experiment 2 (N = 42), children compensated the poor victim more than the rich victim, but they did not punish the rich perpetrator more than the poor perpetrator. In Experiment 3 (N = 45), children compensated the victim with a good moral character more than the victim with a bad moral character, and the victim's moral character did not influence punishment. Altogether, these findings offer new insights into how children resort to compensation for victims as a complement to, rather than an alternative to, punishment.

Sales managers need to maintain the trust of their salespeople to have productive working relationships. A positive and trusting working relationship can be threatened by a transgression on the part of the sales manager. An important challenge for sales managers concerns dealing with the aftermath of an error that damages the trust of a salesperson, especially when the error results in financial harm to that salesperson (e.g., unfair bonus/incentive allocation). A common restorative approach consists of the sales manager acknowledging the error and providing a financial compensation to the salesperson. Recent major investments in infrastructure in the United States and globally present a crucial opportunity to embed equity within the heart of resilient infrastructure decision-making. Yet there is a notable absence of frameworks within the engineering and scientific fields for integrating equity into planning, design, and maintenance of infrastructure. Additionally, whole-of-government approaches to infrastructure, including the Justice40 Initiative, mimic elements of process management that support exploitative rather than exploratory innovation. These and other policies risk creating innovation traps that limit analytical and engineering advances necessary to prioritize equity in decision-making, identification and disruption of mechanisms that cause or contribute to inequities, and remediation of historic harms. Here, we propose a three-tiered framework toward equitable and resilient infrastructure through restorative justice, incremental policy innovation, and exploratory research innovation. This framework aims to ensure equitable access and benefits of infrastructure, minimize risk disparities, and embrace restorative justice to repair historical and systemic inequities. We outline incremental policy innovation and exploratory research action items to address and mitigate risk disparities, emphasizing the need for community-engaged research and the development of equity metrics. Among other action items, we recommend a certification system-referred to as Social, Environmental, and Economic Development (SEED)-to train infrastructure engineers and planners and ensure attentiveness to gaps that exist within and dynamically interact across each tier of the proposed framework. Through the framework and proposed actions, we advocate for a transformative vision for equitable infrastructure that emphasizes the interconnectedness of social, environmental, and technical dimensions in infrastructure planning, design, and maintenance.

Effective social research tapping a broad range of human experiences must employ research paradigms that are consistent with the ontologies and epistemologies of the research participants, community, and contextual scholars. This paper describes the construction of a bricolage, imbricating Islamic and interpretivist concepts for coherence and rigor in engaging 35 Muslim–Canadian educators in interviews on their pedagogies. The act of centering an Islamic paradigm made data visible beyond a narrow secular Western frame, offering analytic precision and interpretive significance within Muslim educational communities. Illustrating this data–paradigm engagement, a collective data excerpt is presented on socio–spiritual development, whereby educators described establishing with young Muslims an overarching conceptual framework rooted in Islamic tradition to situate self, social, and spiritual relationships; embark holistic transformative actions with social, individual, and spiritual dimensions; and engage in continuous self-reflexivity triangulated with divinity (muhasaba). In Brazil, conflicts involving public servants are governed by the standards of disciplinary administrative law, which is inspired by the retributive criminal law model. However, new possibilities (for instance, restorative justice [RJ] applications) may positively contribute to the settling of controversies. This article aims to describe the restorative justice approach within the administrative disciplinary context of the Executive Branch of the State of Goiás. The study has a qualitative nature and is characterized by exploratory‐descriptive research. The method consists of a case study carried out in the Comptroller General of the State. The results point to a state move toward the adoption of consensual dispute resolution methods in the public sphere aimed particularly at public servants, with initiatives conducted by the Office of the State Controller General of Goiás (CGE), such as pilot projects consisting of: restorative circles and the institution of Law No. 21.631/2022 (labor mediation). Specifically with respect to disciplinary offenses, RJ is not instituted, but it is one of the motivators for the materialization of RJ measures in the workplace. The present study involving the theme of RJ and Disciplinary Administrative Law is unprecedented in Brazil. Motivators were identified for the implementation of restorative practices in the workplace and the identification of the process needed to change states to implement the characteristics of a restorative paradigm, culminating in the institution of mediation processes and other RJ interventions. This study sought to understand how state-level policies inform and promote the implementation of restorative justice in education (RJE). A content analysis of 60 laws revealed that definitions, structures, and supports varied greatly, causing us to question whether policies support a systematic implementation of RJE and how policies can prevent the misuse of RJE as an alternative system of punishment. We recommend that laws clearly define the paradigm shift underlying RJE, and provide sustained support to promote a realignment of policies and practices with attention to incorporating measures of accountability to larger values surrounding equity and justice. Recent years have seen a significant increase in cyber sexual offenses (CSO) conducted through the creation and distribution of intimate images and videos of others without their knowledge or consent, oftentimes among minors. Restorative justice (RJ) offers a platform to conduct an open, direct, and safe dialogue between responsible persons (RP) and survivors. This explorative study aimed to identify the central characteristics of RJ processes conducted following CSO between youths and to explore their potential benefits and challenges. The study involved in-depth interviews with 10 RJ facilitators and mediators in Israel and Belgium, who led RJ processes following CSO among minors. In addition, content analysis of documents describing these processes was conducted. Four themes emerged: The uniqueness of youth CSO; features of direct encounter; intergenerational aspects; and the need to manage expectations of the process among youth, parents, and facilitators. Victim-offense mediation (VOM) is the process by which victims of crime meet the involved youth, in the presence of trained mediators, to process and address the emotional and practical ramifications of the crime. We aimed to qualitatively understand the experiences of victims and justice-involved youth during mediation sessions. Participants were recruited from one American and one Canadian mediation center, We combined field observations, semi-structured interviews, and multiple case study analyses with reflexive thematic analysis to explore nine cases of VOM participants' experiences of the process and its potential link with various desired outcomes immediately following VOM. We generated five themes: Attempting to Satisfy Mediation Needs, Apologies, The Gravitational Pull of Victims, Finding a Healing Connection, and Corrective Emotional Experience & Challenged Expectations. We discuss these themes, the importance of relational processes, the importance and potential burden of the compelling victim, corrective emotional experiences, and the potential role of the mediators. Restorative justice diversion aligns with youths' developmental needs more than traditional approaches. However, there is a research gap regarding its effectiveness among diverse youth, and when initiated by police. This study evaluated misdemeanor cases that occurred in Minneapolis between September 2014 and December 2018 finding that youth who participated in restorative justice diversion after arrest were less likely to experience re-arrest in the following year compared to those processed traditionally. Positive program impacts for Black and American Indian youth demonstrate RJ diversion can be effective with diverse youth while differences in rates of successful diversion by participating community agency highlight opportunities for further study. Rule enforcement is critical in democratic, self-governing societies. Many political disputes occur when citizens do not understand the fundamental rationales for enforcement (e.g., COVID-19 pandemic). We examined how naïve groups learn and develop wise enforcement systems. Based on theories from behavioral economics, political science, psychology, and education, we predicted that groups need to experience failure of an enforcement system, but be guided on restorative justice principles to collectively learn from this failure. Undergraduate students (N = 288) from a Midwestern U.S. metropolitan university self-governed a simulated common-pool resource with real financial payoffs. Groups began with one of three conditions designed to create different experiences with enforcement and regulatory failure: (a) no enforcement (no communication or peer sanctioning), (b) lax enforcement (communication with peer-sanctioning), or (c) regulatory abuse (peer sanctioning without communication). Half then received facilitated guidance on restorative justice principles (e.g., discuss whether/why to use sanctions). To examine cooperation, we measured how well participants maintained the resource. To examine group learning, we created a novel coding system, which tracked groups' constitutional decisions about conservation agreements and enforcement, conceptual understanding, and the enforcement systems they created. The no-enforcement and lax-enforcement conditions quickly yielded moderate cooperation via voluntary agreements. However, such agreements prevented groups from discovering how and why to use enforcement (peer sanctioning) to improve performance. Initial exposure to regulatory failure had different effects depending on facilitation. Unfacilitated groups fixated on initial misconceptions, causing them to abandon or create less sophisticated enforcement systems, hindering cooperation. Facilitated groups learned from prior failure—discovering principles of wise enforcement (e.g., collective efficiency, self-restraint)—and created more sophisticated enforcement systems (e.g., coordinated sanctions) that improved cooperation. Guidance on restorative justice principles and experience with regulatory abuse may be necessary preconditions for naïve individuals to understand and develop wiser collective enforcement systems. Moving from an era of dam building to dam removal brings additional perspectives to indigenous water governance and hydrosocial relations in the Klamath River Basin (US). This collaborative research initiative with the Karuk Tribe builds greater understanding of the sociocultural impacts of Klamath dam removal and river restoration through Karuk knowledge. Addressing a knowledge gap around the social dimensions of dam removal, we held focus groups and interviews with Karuk cultural practitioners, tribal leaders, and tribal youth in the six-month period leading up to demolition. Extending beyond a focus on infrastructure removal or single-species restoration, we consider how Indigenous environmental relations and cosmologies are embedded in dam removal and river restoration. Specifically, Karuk knowledge shifts the significance of dam removal by elucidating deeply interconnected ecological, cultural, and ceremonial relations that are co-constituted with the Klamath watershed, thereby recasting dam removal as a holistic eco-cultural revitalization initiative. This reconfigures dam removal goals to include improving community health and well-being, enhancing spiritual elements of river restoration, responding to colonial legacies, and engaging tribal youth. In the Klamath case, restorative justice becomes possible through Karuk participation in river restoration to facilitate the revitalization of reciprocal relations held between Karuk people and the Klamath River—including Karuk eco-cultural and ceremonial practices for restoring balance in the world. The purpose of this study is to analyze: first, the study of Attorney General Regulation No. 15 of 2020 concerning the termination of prosecution based on restorative justice in the perspective of the criminal justice system in Indonesia. Second, the mechanism for terminating prosecution based on restorative justice based on Attorney General Regulation No. 15 of 2020 has fulfilled the requirements and objectives. This legal research uses a normative juridical approach method. The results of the study concluded that there is a contradiction between the position of Perja No. 15 of 2020 and the justice system in Indonesia. First, it shows that the findings in article 2 of Perja no 15 of 2020 "termination of prosecution based on restorative justice is carried out based on the principles of justice, public interest, proportionality, punishment as a last resort; and fast, simple, and low cost", Second, the mechanism for implementing restorative justice in embezzlement criminal cases consists of a) peace efforts. namely the peace process is carried out voluntarily, by deliberation for consensus, without pressure, coercion, and intimidation b) in the peace process, there are two possible mechanisms, namely rejection or success. Social movements play a key role in advancing climate justice. This article analyses three case studies and examines the role these movements play in implementing climate justice by mobilising communities, raising awareness, and advocating for policy change. It discusses how grassroots activism challenges power structures and drives change, highlighting three examples of movements in Commonwealth countries: Seed Mob in Australia, the Karachi Bachao Tehreek campaign in Pakistan, and RuralRevive in Namibia. By mobilising diverse stakeholders and leveraging media and technology, social movements advocate for systemic transformation and community resilience. However, they face constraints in driving transformative change. This paper explores the intersection of neoliberalism, development communication, and climate justice in India, particularly under the Modi regime. It examines how neoliberal ideologies leverage dominant communication paradigms reflecting class dominance, biopolitical control, and a unified national identity rooted in religion. This form of communication extends to policies related to climate justice with India conceptualised and communicated as a monolithic entity or a nation-state with a homogenous belief system that prioritises development over climate concerns, reinforced through binaries prevalent in global climate justice negotiations. This nation-centric approach to climate justice marginalises the views of vulnerable communities in climate justice. While taking a critical view of environmental movements, this article advocates alternative paradigms of communication through a bottom-up approach and identifies conditions and institutions that promote transformative climate justice. Traffic accidents are unexpected events involving at least one motorized vehicle, resulting in material loss or loss of life. Legal consequences include criminal penalties and civil claims. The police can resolve traffic accident cases quickly outside of court using a Restorative Justice approach, which emphasizes recovering the victim's losses and repairing relationships between the perpetrator and the victim. This research focuses on the efforts of the Traffic Unit in handling traffic accidents through Restorative Justice within the jurisdiction of the Buleleng Police and identifies obstacles encountered in its implementation. Despite previous studies discussing Restorative Justice in various legal contexts, there is a significant research gap regarding its application to traffic accident cases in Buleleng. This study aims to fill this gap by providing insights into the effectiveness and challenges of implementing Restorative Justice in traffic accident cases. Utilizing a normative juridical approach supported by empirical research, this study analyzes legal principles, norms, and conceptual evidence. The findings indicate that the Traffic Unit's efforts include mediation between involved parties but face obstacles such as a lack of public understanding, failure to reach agreements, and differing interpretations among law enforcement officers. The Indonesian state is a state of law, based on Article 1 paragraph (3) of the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia. This means that within the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia, the law must be upheld and become a means of carrying out activities in all aspects of national and state life. Laws that uphold human rights and guarantee equal status before the law are required to respond to all problems and conflicting interests of society. The problem formulation is how to resolve criminal acts of abuse through restorative justice in the Bali regional police? And what are the obstacles in resolving criminal acts of abuse through restorative justice in the Bali regional police? The research method in this case is empirical research, descriptive research, the data source is primary data; secondary data; and tertiary data, data collection techniques namely observation; interview; and documentation, and data processing and data analysis techniques, namely descriptive qualitative. Resolving criminal acts of abuse through Restorative Justice in the jurisdiction of the Bali Regional Police is carried out by integrating three forms of law enforcement, namely preemptive, preventive and repressive. However, the obstacles to this resolution are the lack of eyewitnesses, lack of human resources for law enforcement, and the trauma suffered by victims which is difficult to remove, so psychological support and long-term therapy are really needed to help victims recover emotionally and mentally. The chapter identifies the COVID-19 pandemic as not just a public health crisis but also an information crisis. The authors argue that a deeper understanding of the role of culture in information practices is critical for the future of research and theoretical development around humanity's relationship to information (i.e., why information is or is not created, represented, avoided, sought, retrieved, used, shared, or hidden). Rationale: Twenty‐one Community Rehabilitation Companies were set up following the division of the National Probation Services during 'Transforming Rehabilitation' in England and Wales, under a 2013 Ministry of Justice initiative. Reunification commenced in 2018. A study completed prior to these changes suggested that probation officers had had little training in recognising attention‐deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and may have been underestimating its prevalence among their clientele. Given the substantial changes in probation staffing and organisation since 2018, a new study seems warranted. Aims: The aim of the study was to understand experiences of people under a community sentence who reported having ADHD and of probation staff working with them. Methods: Using a qualitative research design, one‐to‐one semi‐structured interviews were conducted with client facing probation staff recruited from one Community Rehabilitation Company. Service users undertaking a community sentence who had been diagnosed with or self‐identified as having ADHD were then identified and recruited by these staff; those who consented were also interviewed. Transcripts were analysed using a thematic analytic approach. Results: Thirteen probation staff and six male offenders under community sentences, agreed to participate and completed interviews. The overarching themes emerging from the two groups were similar, both reflecting on descriptions of ADHD; treatment of ADHD; experiences of having or working with ADHD in the wider community and in the criminal justice system specifically and visions of future support needs tied to the order. In addition, probation officers specifically raised the matter of payment by results. Both service users and probation staff identified gaps in knowledge, experience and services, but areas of good practice were also identified. Conclusion: The findings highlight the continuing under‐acknowledgement of tailored clinical support for people serving a community sentence who have ADHD together with a lack of support and training about ADHD for probation staff. Return to the national organisation of probation services and recognition of need for a range of relevant skills offers a great opportunity for re‐evaluating supervision and management of offenders under community sentences who have ADHD. These findings provide the basis for a template for developing knowledge and support provision for probation staff to recognise ADHD, or its likelihood, and their capacity to follow through with appropriately informed personalised supervision plans and access to specialist service advice and support. This article presents one school's perspective on the application of restorative practices to its community life. It is borne out of a deep commitment to the three components described in Micah 6:8--justice, mercy, humility--as being central to the school's establishment of restorative culture as a key part of its presentation of itself as God's people gathered in community. The article also explores the background that informed the school's current approach to restorative justice practices. Justice services have begun to integrate the use of mobile applications into treatment, support, and rehabilitative programs for forensic clients. One such application that been adopted to support forensic clients is "eRecovery": a smartphone application that provides clients recovering from a substance addiction with support for managing relapse. In this article, we report on evaluation findings from a trial of eRecovery in an Australian Community Justice Centre, and reflect on several issues relating to fostering and sustaining client engagement with similar applications within forensic and justice settings. We propose the Service Design Engagement Model to organize, visualize, and describe the stages and factors important to adoption, appropriation, and on-going routine use of the software by forensic clients. The model recognizes the role of contextual and environmental factors in supporting users through the early stages of engagement, and the importance of user agency in longer-term engagement with therapeutic apps. Although community involvement is a central ideal in restorative justice (RJ), its implementation in practice has scarcely been researched. This study used interpretive phenomenological analysis of interviews and focus groups to explore 16 circle participants' and stakeholders' perceptions of community in a domestic violence RJ program called circles of Peace. Three themes emerged: Importance of community involvement, Offenders' prospects of change when the community is involved, and circles as a community within a community. Restorative justice (RJ) and other innovative approaches are increasingly being considered in lieu of traditional legal responses to intimate partner violence (IPV) perpetration. This formative qualitative study investigated the perspectives of 29 North Carolina-based domestic violence intervention program (DVIP) providers, domestic violence service program providers, and North Carolina Coalition Against Domestic Violence staff members regarding RJ and transformative justice (TJ) in the context of DVIP programming. Participants had mixed opinions about integrating RJ and TJ practices into current offender treatment and cited structural and organizational barriers to adoption. Simultaneously, they emphasized the cruciality of expanding inter-organizational networks and uncoupling offender treatment from the legal system. Participants cited increased inter-organizational cooperation and community involvement as critical steps in modifying offender treatment to include more restorative principles. Policies and institutional practices that endorse RJ and TJ may improve the effectiveness and transformational capability of offender treatment and increase healing for survivors. I assess a justification for the granting of transitional amnesties conditional, at the minimum, upon full disclosure of wrongdoing by perpetrators. According to this rationale, such amnesties are morally legitimate because they foster restorative justice. I distinguish between two conceptions of restorative justice that I call the punishment-deprioritizing and punishment-prescribing conceptions. I argue that while conditional amnesties granted to perpetrators of minor offences conditional upon full disclosure, verbal apology and reparations could promote restorative justice well enough to justify them in the eyes of adherents of the punishment-deprioritizing conception, conditional amnesties in favour of perpetrators of serious human rights abuses, because they are unlikely ever to be conditional upon perpetrators' carrying out burdensome reparations, are likely to promote restorative justice on the punishment-deprioritizing conception only to a limited extent and not enough to justify them from the standpoint of adherents to this conception. Conditional amnesties, I contend, cannot ever promote restorative justice on the punishment-prescribing conception because it holds that punishment is indispensable for the achievement of the aims of restorative justice and amnesties exempt perpetrators from criminal punishment. In what can generally be described as mimicry of the design and functioning of the preliminary reference procedure in the European Union legal framework, leaders of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) introduced the preliminary reference procedure into the ECOWAS legal framework in a 2015 revision of the Protocol of the ECOWAS Court. However, unlike the European equivalent which has been hailed as a tremendous success, the procedure has been a monumental failure in the ECOWAS framework, as not a single reference has emanated from any national court to the ECOWAS Court in the 17 years since the introduction of the procedure. Adopting a doctrinal research approach, this article explores why national courts of ECOWAS Member States are not likely to cooperate with the ECOWAS Court to successfully operationalise the procedure. It is argued that structural challenges as well as the absence of the enabling environment create nearly insurmountable obstacles to the functioning of the procedure in the ECOWAS framework. Restorative practices are a set of values and skills that professionals can use during their dayto-day interactions with the people for whom they deliver services.2 They can be applied across the ‘human services’,3 including in criminal justice agencies such as policing and prisons, social work, schools and universities, among other settings. Professionals working in these services have significant discretion to decide how to allocate benefits and sanctions on behalf of the State, and how they interact with the people over whom they have authority, and for whose welfare they are responsible.4 Advocates argue that restorative values and skills can help professionals orient their practices towards building and maintaining positive relationships, ensuring people feel treated fairly and involved in decisions, and addressing and repairing harm and resolving conflict constructively. Restorative justice is an increasingly common discipline policy, as schools grapple with historic inequities in traditional exclusionary discipline. This mixed-methods study examines the implementation of restorative justice in 28 intentionally diverse charter schools in five jurisdictions in the U.S. Qualitative findings suggest a range of factors at play during implementation including capacity, buy-in and how intent is interpreted. They are reflected in our quantitative results where we find that suspension rates in the sample schools are lower in only three out of five jurisdictions and that reductions may serve to decrease racial/ethnic gaps in only two out of five jurisdictions. Restorative justice practices are an increasingly popular approach to behavioral management, rooted in relationships rather than the behaviorist approach of many traditional forms of schooling. Research on restorative practice implementation demonstrates that schools rarely have time to consider cultural change, as they rush to reduce suspensions and discipline gaps. Presumably, this mismatch between culture and practice would be even more pronounced in a no-excuses charter, but this presumption warrants inquiry. Framed by theories of institutional logics, the current study examines an historically no-excuses charter school's shift toward restorative justice. We find that a behaviorist, "no-excuses" logic inhibits teachers and administrators from embracing the cultural and ideological foundations of restorative justice, even as they express ideological and intellectual commitment to the shift in practices. Purpose: This study facilitated restorative coordinators in co-constructing and proposing solutions to common problems in RJ implementation. Design/methodology/approach: This study used grounded theory to examine barriers to equitable restorative justice (RJ) implementation in the US. Drawing on interviews and focus groups with restorative coordinators, we used a combination of inductive and deductive coding consistent with the grounded theory approach. Findings: Coordinators distinguished between RJ as a top-down, isolated "program" versus RJ as a collaborative "practice" among all stakeholders. Only the latter was equitable, in their view, and required a consistent principal commitment to building and maintaining an inclusive school culture. Participants recommended that teacher and principal preparation provide opportunities to cultivate critical consciousness and participate in RJ practices. Originality/value: Existing research on discipline reform tends to focus on outcomes, such as suspension rates. Instead, participants focused on the reform process, viewing equitable RJ as an ongoing "practice" to improve school culture. Our findings also open new discussions about leadership preparation content and pedagogy: participants called for preparation programs to cultivate critical consciousness and facility with RJ. Restorative justice practices such as victim-offender dialogue (VOD) have gained traction in the past few decades as routes towards healing amidst high incarceration and recidivism rates and growing public dissatisfaction with punitive carceral structures. However, little work has sought to understand the nuanced experiences of those who engage in VOD processes, in their own words. In this manuscript, we use narrative analytic methods to explore how a dyad involved in VOD process—the individual who engaged in a crime, and a mother and daughter impacted by this crime—transformed over the course of the process (before, 2 weeks after, and 6 months after the dialogue). We found that, for the participating dyad, engaging in the VOD process cracked open the humanity of the other through the vehicles of religion and forgiveness. Our findings echo—and expand—prior work on "forgiveness" in RJ processes, and suggest the need for future research which explores the nuanced role of religion in VOD. Finally, we advocate for the expansion of facilitated dialogue processes as a process with the potential to catalyze individual and community healing. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study highlights effective components of restorative practice programming from the perspective of teachers involved in piloting a restorative practices initiative. Data were collected through 10 qualitative interviews at the study site - an under-resourced, urban school. Findings capture teacher perceptions of how two elements of the program design that are very often missing from restorative practice implementation made distinct contributions to an overall positive impact: (1) a full-time restorative practices coordinator; one that focuses exclusively on restorative practice implementation and does not also hold another role at the school; and (2) a student leadership program that trains and empowers students in restorative practices and relational climate building. Drawing on Relational-Cultural Theory, the discussion emphasizes that strengthening relational bonds has potential to enhance school climates for marginalized youth, which is critical to improving outcomes in under-resourced schools. Improving teamwork among mental health practitioners is crucial. However, there have been few intervention studies on teamwork enhancement among community mental health practitioners in South Korea. We aimed to determine the effectiveness of the Team Building Circle program (TBC) based on the restorative justice paradigm, which sought to promote integration and cohesion. The TBC was developed to improve conflict interpretation mind-set, interpersonal skills, and teamwork among practitioners in community mental health centers. We conducted a quasi-experimental study using a pre and posttest design with a non-equivalent control group. The participants were 44 practitioners from four community mental health centers. Data were collected before the implementation TBC (pretest), just after (posttest), and 3 months after TBC (follow-up test). A generalized estimating equation model was used for analysis. Our findings indicate that the intervention group had improved scores in the ability to cope with interpersonal stress in a constructive way, interpersonal relationship skills, and teamwork compared to the control group. Restorative justice encourages communication and restoration between individuals or groups where harm has been caused. This article reviews participant and facilitator experiences of restorative justice interventions in the forensic secure estate. During a systematic review we searched six databases acquiring 628 articles. We identified nine studies as suitable for inclusion with a total of 426 participants of restorative interventions. We identified three themes: Underlying Processes, Clinical Applications, and Internal Mechanisms of Change. We conclude that restorative justice can provide benefits to those who are involved in the process but are most effective when certain wider systemic conditions are met. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The transitional justice field has shown great versatility in its response to the consequences of conflicts, dealing with human rights violations, addressing legacies of the past and tackling emerging issues and vulnerabilities. This editorial reflects on Africa's three decades of implementing transitional justice with a focus on key lessons learnt and their contribution to the betterment of transitional justice offering on the continent. The editorial discusses an African transformative justice as codified in the African Union Transitional Justice Policy as responsive, resonant and contextually relevant to the lived realities on the continent. The editorial argues that the African Union Transitional Justice Policy is the embodiment of lessons learnt from transitional justice practice on the continent and demonstrates the adaptability and expansion of the frontiers of transitional justice to address emerging issues as well as both historical legacies and most recent violations. Corruption has existed for many years in the world. Therefore, to overcome these problems, researchers need to apply the philosophy of restorative justice. The purpose of this research is to examine the use of a restorative justice system as a final resolution effort in addressing corruption crimes in Indonesia. Therefore, the restorative justice approach is needed as the main solution in resolving corruption crimes in Indonesia. The research methodology used is normative juridical. The results show that restorative justice as an effort to resolve corruption crimes in Indonesia is an approach that emphasizes the restoration of damaged relationships due to corruption crimes by involving all parties involved, including perpetrators, victims, and the community. This research has contributed to the improvement of restorative justice arrangements for unlawful acts of corruption in order to optimize the recovery of state financial losses. The purpose of this paper is to cover the theoretical component of the mediation mechanism, to determine its place in the criminal procedure, as well as to conduct a comparative analysis based on the practices of its functioning in various countries, namely the United States of America, Great Britain, Germany, France. The theoretical methodological approach, the formal legal methodological approach, the dogmatic methodological approach, the method of legal hermeneutics and others were used to conduct this study. The results of the study showed that at this stage the institution of mediation is quite young, but it is a fairly effective way of alternative dispute resolution; the study analysed the world practices of advanced states in the functioning of mediation, as well as their legislative norms that regulate this institution, considering the specific features of each of the legal systems. Evidence demonstrating the essential role of human service nonprofits in restoring justice to communities has led to an increased need in understanding how these nonprofits view their service delivery role in relation to the state in a restorative justice context. Despite the increase in funding dedicated to restorative justice programs and increased collaborations between states and nonprofits, few studies have explored perceptions of collaborative restorative justice roles in state-led initiatives. This exploratory qualitative study uses semi-structured interviews to understand how leaders in these programs view their organization's roles in restorative justice implementation. The analysis evaluates the variations in perceptions among nonprofits leaders as well as the differences in perceptions between nonprofit versus public managers/policy makers. Results indicate that nonprofit leaders and public managers/policy makers view nonprofits as pivotal to restorative justice policy implementation given their capacity to engage in grassroots problem-solving and develop strengths-based programs. The Prosecutor's Office plays a crucial role in the functioning of the legal system. However, in reality, the Corruption Court is still located in every provincial capital in Indonesia, which often results in high costs for resolving corruption cases which are sometimes disproportionate to the losses they cause to the state. The author of this research focuses on analyzing circular letters belonging to the Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes by linking the theory of Legal Economic Analysis as a form of consideration and also explaining how the Prosecutional Office applies a restorative justice approach. The research contributes to the topic discussed by evaluating the policy's significance and the prosecutor-office's role in handling corruption cases through the application of restorive justice principles. This study also aims to provide an overview of the challenges and technical legal issues faced by the public prosecutor in carrying out their responsibility to recover funds and/or state assets. The institution of “probation,” a form of judicial probation aimed for adults, was rewied by the recent justice reform law (Cartabia Reform, Dec. 30, 2022), where, even in the rewied version, was confirmed its high civic and reeducational value. Through probation, offenders can realize the paths to change own critical reinterpretation of their behavior. This is an interpretation of punishment that preserves its retributive value, but the challenge that institutions and associations take as welcoming these people into the activities and projects of a (re)educational nature, gives this particular penal measure a restorative purpose too. Probation concerns first and foremost the offender, it also verifies the skills, resilience, and responsibility of those it accommodates. With these premises, in 2023 a collaboration between some professors of the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart and the Piacenza Volunteer Service Center led to the realization a training course and later a Research involving the Associations that take in the people on probation.

Restorative Justice is a new approach emphasizing dialogue and peace in crime resolution, prioritizing addressing the core issues between individuals. In cases of assault, which involve unlawful acts causing harm or injury, Restorative Justice is typically applied to minor cases. However, Police Regulation Number 8 of 2021 expands Restorative Justice to encompass both minor and severe assault cases, as implemented in North Halmahera Police Resort. This empirical research collects primary and secondary data through field studies and literature reviews, employing qualitative analysis. Findings highlight the urgency of police implementation of Restorative Justice in assault cases to achieve substantial and balanced justice. Implementation has occurred in North Halmahera Police Resort in accordance with Police Regulation Number 8 of 2021, yet faces challenges such as socialization, cultural adaptation, and coordination between victims and perpetrators. Future law enforcement policies based on Restorative Justice must adapt to existing challenges, including wider socialization and cultural adaptation. Understanding the importance of victims' and perpetrators' presence in the Restorative Justice process also requires enhancement.

A criminal act is a violation of norms regarding disruption of legal order intentionally (dolus) or unintentionally/negligently (culpa) committed by the perpetrator, where the imposition of a prison sentence on the perpetrator is necessary for the maintenance of legal order and also guaranteeing the interests of the general public. In social life, criminal acts are often found which are often resolved with restorative justice in the police. However, this settlement does not provide a deterrent to the perpetrators who end up repeating the criminal acts they previously committed or being repeated. Repetition of criminal acts as a result of resolving cases using a restorative justice approach is interesting for research, where the problem raised is what the concept of restorative justice is like and why settlements using restorative justice still provide the potential for repetition of criminal acts so that there is a need for legal construction in the future. The results of this research show that the concept of restorative justice as an alternative for resolving cases in the Police is carried out in order to realize justice, benefit and legal certainty, which is the hope of the community, so the National Police has opened up opportunities to resolve criminal cases through a restorative justice mechanism. In terms of the concept applied in the field, resolution using a restorative justice approach cannot be blamed as a reason for repeat criminal acts by the perpetrator. Because the repetition originates from the subject of the perpetrator himself.

Children who commit crimes must have their rights protected to ensure their survival and well-being. This study aims to apply diversion regulations in resolving cases of children in conflict with the law at the Women and Children's Services Unit of the Criminal Investigation Department in the Labuhanbatu Police Department to ensure the provision of restorative justice. This empirical legal study collected data through interviews with the Labuhanbatu Police Department. Findings indicate that diversion regulations are detailed in Law No. 11 of 2012 concerning the Juvenile Criminal Justice System. According to Islamic criminal law, if a child commits a crime, the punishment should be educational and involve al-shulhu (reconciliation). While diversion is carried out with a restorative justice approach, many juvenile offenses are not entirely diverted and are often processed further in the legal system. The practice of reconciliation for juvenile crimes in Labuhanbatu involves the upah-upah ceremony, which aligns with the concept of al-shulhu. Factors that prevent juvenile offenses from being resolved through diversion include cases of theft, embezzlement, and assault. This study recommends that diversion be mandatory for juvenile offenders at the stages of investigation, prosecution, and trial to resolve juvenile criminal cases

This article aims to introduce and describe the development of the concept of Blue-Mindfulness TrainingTM, which was created and designed by Thaddeus Gamory and supported by research and the experience of other experts in the field. Drawing from the author's and others' practical experience, the authors present a "Voice from the Field" perspective on creating and developing the Blue-MindfulnessTM. This Instructional Framework, coined by Mr. Thaddeus Gamory Blue-MindfulnessTM, addresses the impacts of historical racial discrimination and trauma in BIPOC communities, specifically on marginalized African American communities while promoting a communal and safe relationship with the water. By promoting a positive and safe relationship with water, the authors hope to encourage these communities to embrace the benefits of water as a source of healing and well-being while promoting, educating, and supporting water safety education and drowning prevention.
