Background: Ecosystem models are valuable tools to make climate-related assessments of change when ground-based measurements of water and carbon fluxes are not adequately detailed to realistically capture geographic variability. The Carnegie-Ames-Stanford Approach (CASA) is one such model based on satellite observations of monthly vegetation cover to estimate net primary production (NPP) of terrestrial ecosystems. Results: CASA model predictions from 2015 to 2022 for Western Europe revealed several notable high and low periods in growing season NPP totals in most countries of the region. For the total land coverage of France, Greece, Italy, Portugal, and Spain, 2018 was the year with the highest terrestrial plant growth, whereas 2017 and 2019 were the years with the highest summed NPP across the UK, Germany, and Croatia. For most of Western Europe, 2022 was the year predicted with the lowest summed plant growth. Annual precipitation in most countries of Western Europe gradually declined from a high average rate in 2018 to a low average precipitation level in 2022. Conclusions: The CASA model predicted decreased growing season NPP of between − 25 and − 60% across all of Spain, southern France, and northern Italy from 2021 to 2022, and much of that plant production loss was detected in the important cropland regions of these nations. The most abundant neutral constituent in the exospheric region (i.e., beyond = 500 km altitude) is the atomic hydrogen (H); however, its density distributions predicted by physics-based models have been challenged by satellite-based observations of its far ultraviolet emissions. This discrepancy may impact magnetospheric ions' densities and velocities since numerous chemistry and ion-neutral coupling interactions rely sensitively on the underlying neutral hydrogen population. The Polar Wind Outflow Model a first-principled model for relevant ion species in the high-latitude ionosphere, is employed to investigate the role of neutral H on the ionospheric outflow. Specifically, variability in the outflow of ionospheric H+, He+, N+, and O+ as a response to systematic enhancement and depletion of H number densities were simulated. The altitudedependent ion density and energy partition profiles vary with neutral H density, solar activities, and ion species. These findings suggest that the exosphere plays a crucial role in controlling the production and loss of ions through ionospheric chemistry, as well as the energy contributions by altering ionneutral-electron collisions and the ambipolar electric field to the high-latitude ionospheric outflow. As a result, the escape rates of the ionospheric outflow are directly associated with exospheric distributions. This work potentially helps understand the dominant mechanisms of atmospheric escape, particularly during a hydrogen-rich early Earth's and exoplanet's atmosphere, which is known to play a significant role in understanding the evolution of Earth's atmosphere. AbstractAvian pathogenic Escherichia coli (APEC) is a significant cause of morbidity, mortality, and production loss to the poultry industry worldwide. Here, we characterized 569 E. coli isolates from avian-diagnosed colibacillosis cases from the state of Georgia, USA. A total of 339 isolates were assigned into 32 serogroups with the majority classifying as O78, O2, O25, O8, O1, O86, O18, and O15. Serogroup O25 was found to link with broilers, while broiler breeders were more often associated with serogroup O1 and pet/ hobby birds with serogroup O8. In addition, some serogroups (O1) were more prevalent in the Summer and Fall. Analysis for virulence-associated genes (VAGs) found 23.20% of isolates did not harbor any genes linked with the APEC pathotype, while ColV plasmid-associated genes (iroN, ompT, hlyF, iss, and aerJ,) were frequently detected among most isolates (with 80 to 96% prevalence) and some of these genes were linked with serogroup. Phylogenetic analysis, classified isolates into phylogenetic groups B2 (27%), G (21%), F (15%), and A (11%). The phylogenetic group B2 isolates also harbored the highest number of VAGs. This study highlights that the current APEC-causing disease in birds in the State of Georgia has identified several emerging serogroups possessing several VAGs that could potentially lead to challenges in colibacillosis control. Brontispa longissima is a highly destructive pest that affects coconut and ornamental palm plants. It is widely distributed across Southeast and East Asia and the Pacific region, causing production losses of up to 50–70%. While control methods and ecological phenomena have been the primary focus of research, there is a significant lack of studies on the molecular mechanisms underlying these ecological phenomena. The absence of a reference genome has also hindered the development of new molecular-targeted control technologies. In this study, we conducted a karyotype analysis of B. longissima and assembled the first high-quality chromosome-level genome. The assembled genome is 582.24 Mb in size, with a scaffold N50 size of 63.81 Mb, consisting of 10 chromosomes and a GC content of 33.71%. The BUSCO assessment indicated a completeness estimate of 98.1%. A total of 23,051 protein-coding genes were predicted. Our study provides a valuable genomic resource for understanding the mechanisms of adaptive evolution and facilitates the development of new molecular-targeted control methods for B. longissima. Among the most important aquaculture resources for our country, salmon and trout stand out. Their production has increased significantly in recent decades, making them two of the most valuable resources in economic terms. However, high aquaculture production has allowed many pathogens to proliferate, causing infectious diseases and significant production losses. Piscirickettsia salmonis is a gram‐negative, facultative intracellular bacterium that is responsible for causing severe disease in a variety of salmonid fish species. Despite the significant impact of P. salmonis on aquaculture, effective treatments for this disease remain limited. Current prevention and control strategies often include antibiotics and vaccines. However, these treatments have shown varying degrees of efficacy. A promising approach involves synthesizing bioactive analog compounds with antibacterial properties. Quinones, secondary metabolites that are abundant in nature, have become a focal point of interest due to their diverse physiological activities, including antibiotic, insecticidal, antifungal, and anticancer properties. In this study, it is shown the synthesis of series 6‐bromo‐7‐arylaminoisoquinoline‐5,8‐quinones, the characterization of these compounds using classical spectroscopic methods such as one‐dimensional nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), FT‐IR (infrared), mass spectrometry, and the biological activity against Piscirickettsia salmonis. The brominated derivative compounds showed no cytotoxicity at any concentration evaluated. Furthermore, the infectivity of P. salmonis after treatment with the analog compounds indicated that derivatives methyl 6‐bromo‐7‐((4‐methoxyphenyl)amino)‐1,3‐dimethy‐5,8‐dioxo‐5,8‐dihydroisoquinoline‐4‐carboxylate (4b) and methyl 7‐((4′‐amino‐[1,1′‐biphenyl]‐4‐yl)amino)‐6‐bromo‐1,3‐dimethy‐5,8‐dioxo‐5,8‐dihydroisoquinoline‐4‐carboxylate (4g) reduced the bacterial load at 25 μg/mL concentration. In the present age of industrial revolution where the smart manufacturing and smart production are being used in the developed countries, the production systems are still vulnerable to disruptions and outages that affect the reliability and availability of the systems. Certain scientific and probabilistic approaches are required to study the inter‐failure times and repair times and find the possible solutions for maximum production and minimum losses. In this article, we propose a bivariate Power Pareto distribution to model the inter‐failure times and repair times of a system along with some of its characteristics. The model parameters are estimated by employing the maximum likelihood estimation, Bayesian estimation and ant colony optimization algorithm. A simulation study is conducted for different sample sizes to assess the stability of the model parameters. Moreover, we derive the distribution of convolution from our proposed bivariate stochastic distribution and compute its quantiles that help to determine the total time of availability and recovery of a certain system. Drought is caused by imbalances in the hydrological cycle's variables, especially lack of rainfall, which is frequently brought on by climate change and can occur anywhere on the Earth. This study aims to conduct a detailed seasonal drought analysis through the seasonal precipitation statistics, groundwater level, and soil moisture in Bankura District during 1991–2022. The study utilized the standardized precipitation index, Standardized water-level Index, and Standardized soil moisture index to assess the meteorological drought, hydrological drought, and agricultural drought at multiple time scales. The three drought indices have been calculated by the 'Standardized Precipitation-Evapotranspiration Index' package using 'R' programming, which make it possible to compare the drought situations in various climatic zones. The three months standardized precipitation index was used in the seasonal analysis of different types of drought. The modified Mann–Kendall trend analysis was used to acquire information on the course of the drought and rains. Correlation analysis was also done to evaluate the dependency of agricultural drought upon the meteorological drought and hydrological drought. Seasonal droughts in meteorological drought, hydrological drought, and agricultural drought have been compared to the production of the four major seasonal crops. The trend of rainfall showed -0.184, -1.149, -1.263 and -3.598 mm decreases in pre-monsoon, winter, post-monsoon and monsoon season respectively. The occurrence of drought with negative standardized precipitation index, standardized water-level index, and standardized soil moisture index values frequently depicted dry events in the study area. The results show that the drought harms the productivity of food grains, with production losses of 122.77 thousand tonnes and yield rate losses of 292.37 kg per hectare from the average, respectively. This study also considered non-structural and structural efforts from the governmental, stakeholder, and research communities to mitigate the seasonal drought, frame drought-resilient agriculture, and promote sustainability. Background: Hydatidosis, caused by the larval stage of the tapeworm Echinococcus granulosus, affect cattle by forming hydatid cyst in thier lungs, livers and pose great financial loss in animal production and country's economy by both direct and indirect effect. Despite its great economic and health importance, there is an absence of current information on cystic echinococcosis in cattle slaughtered at Wolaita Sodo municipality abattoir in Ethiopia. Objectives: Current investigation determines the prevalence, organ distribution and fertility of hydatid cysts in cattle slaughtered at the Wolaita Sodo municipality abattoir in Ethiopia. Methods: A cross‐sectional study was conducted from February, 2023, to October, 2023, at Wolaita Sodo municipality abattoir in southern Ethiopia, through regular meat examinations and cyst characterisation to determine the prevalence, organ distribution and fertility of hydatid cysts. Results: The overall prevalence of hydatidosis recorede in current study was 17.9% (69/384) and has shown a statistically significant association (p < 0.05) with the body condition of cattle. However, there was no statistically significant association (p > 0.05) between the prevalence of hydatidosis and other risk factors such as sex, breed, production system and origin of animals. This study showed that the lungs and liver were the most affected organs in cattle, followed by the spleen and kidneys. On cyst characterisation, the majority of hydatid cysts were found sterile (55.4%) followed by fertile (38.8%) and calcified (8.7%) cysts. Out of 125 fertile hydatid cysts tested for survival, 18.8% (58/321) were viable and 20% (67/321) were nonviable. Conclusion: The finding of this study shows that cystic echinococcus was important health threat of the cattle and widespread in the internal organs of affected cattle causing significant economic loss by condemning edible organs that are not suitable for human consumption. Therefore, urgent and integreted preventive action is needed to disrupt the life cycle of cystic echinococcosis to tackle subsequent financial loss and risk of zoonosis to humans in the study area. Newborn lambs are susceptible to pathogenic bacterial infections leading to enteritis, which affects their growth and development and causes losses in sheep production. It has been reported that N6-methyladenosine (m6A) is closely related to innate immunity, but the effect of m6A on sheep small intestinal epithelial cells (IECs) and the mechanism involved have not been elucidated. Here, we investigated the effects of m6A on lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced inflammatory responses, apoptosis and oxidative stress in primary sheep IECs. First, the extracted IECs were identified by immunofluorescence using the epithelial cell signature protein cytokeratin 18 (CK18), and the cellular activity of IECs induced by different concentrations of LPS was determined by the CCK8 assay. Meanwhile, LPS could induce the upregulation of mRNA and protein levels of IECs cytokines IL1β, IL6 and TNFα and the apoptosis marker genes caspase-3, caspase-9, Bax, and apoptosis rate, reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels and mRNA levels of CAT, Mn-SOD and CuZn-SOD, and METTL3 were found to be upregulated during induction. It was hypothesized that METTL3 may have a potential effect on the induction of IECs by LPS. Overexpression and knockdown of METTL3 in IECs revealed that a low-level expression of METTL3 could reduce the inflammatory response, apoptosis and ROS levels in LPS-induced IECs to some extent. Flexible job shops have difficulties in selecting rescheduling schemes under various disturbances. This paper proposes a rescheduling decision selection method that comprehensively considers production loss cost, completion time, machine load balancing rate, and additional machine energy consumption. First, the G1-improved entropy method and the improved TOPSIS method are combined to evaluate rescheduling schemes. Meanwhile, the proposed method combines subjective and objective factors to provide decision-makers with the optimal rescheduling scheme, leading to higher rationality, practicality, and effectiveness of the rescheduling process. Objective: This study investigated the efficacy of different concentrations of cholesterolloaded cyclodextrin (CLC) on cryopreservation in boar sperm quality. Methods: In this study, we treated boar sperm with different concentrations of CLC before freezing and analyzed the sperm cholesterol concentration, plasma membrane, acrosome integrity rate and total motility rate before and after freeze-thawing. We also investigated the levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS), malondialdehyde (MDA), adenosine triphosphate (ATP), and structural- and oxidative-damage related proteins in all groups after thawing. Results: The results revealed that the cholesterol concentration of the CLC-treated groups was higher than that of the control group, both before freezing and after thawing (p<0.05). The plasma membrane integrity rate, acrosome integrity rate, and total motility rate of sperm were also enhanced after thawing in the CLC-treated group (all p<0.05). Moreover, ROS and MDA production and ATP loss were reduced in CLC-treated sperm during freezing and thawing (p<0.05). Finally, CLC pretreatment partially prevented the consumption of various proteins involved in metabolism including capping actin protein of muscle Z-line subunit beta (CAPZB), heat shock protein 90 alpha family class A member 1 (HSP90AA1) and phosphoglycerate mutase 2 (PGAM2) (p<0.05). Conclusion: The CLC treatment increased cholesterol concentration and decreased structural injury and oxidative damage during boar sperm freezing and thawing, improving the efficacy of sperm cryopreservation in boar. Faults in rotating systems can cause significant damage to the machinery and can result in downtime and production losses. Hence, the timely detection and diagnosis of faults are very important for the smooth running of machines and the assurance of their safety and reliability. In view of this, a review of the literature has been presented in the article on the types of additive faults and their identification using conventional signal-based techniques and automated artificial intelligence techniques. Through a literature survey, the faulty rigid and flexible rotor systems mounted on rolling element bearings, hydrodynamic bearings, and active magnetic bearings have been studied. The faults incorporated in this article are the additive fault types, in which the process is affected by adding process variables. The rotor unbalances, shaft or bearing misalignment, crack, internal damping, bow in the shaft, rotor-to-stator rub, and mechanical looseness are the classifications of additive faults. Additionally, understanding the rotor response through theoretical and experimental investigations influenced by the additive faults and its detection and diagnosis using vibration and current-induced signals is extremely important, and therefore the present paper briefly discusses this. Following the state of the art in the dynamic analysis and identification of multiple hazardous faults, the general remarks and future directions for further research have been suggested at the end of this article. In the realm of the global economy, agriculture holds a prominent status, acting as a vital source of employment and revenue for nations. Despite its crucial role, the agricultural sector contends with recurrent annual losses attributable to market fluctuations. One noteworthy contributor to the decline in agricultural productivity is the adverse impact of microplastics (MPs). This study aims to estimate the production losses suffered by key crops—rice, wheat, maize, tomato, and peas—due to MPs, along with the resulting economic consequences arising from the direct damage inflicted by MPs. To assess production losses caused by MPs, secondary data from diverse sources were employed for five plant varieties. The economic losses resulting from MPs were calculated for the period spanning 2017–2023, with cumulative data aggregated from all states. The study's findings indicate that the presence of MPs corresponds to an annual global output decline ranging from 0.4% to 34.7%. This decline translates to a reduction of approximately 0.01 million to 66.97 million tons per year in the production of food, fiber, and biofuels. The aggregate yearly economic losses are estimated at around USD 46.5 billion. These findings carry substantial implications for governmental policy in the agricultural domain, underscoring the necessity for current statistics on global losses incurred due to MPs. In this paper we consider a production economy and adopt a cooperative approach to equilibrium analysis which allows each individual to cooperate with others and to form a coalition whose members have access to the available technologies. We investigate the behavior of the core defined with respect to preferences (preferences-core) and with respect to resources (resources-core). We introduce a measure of social loss with respect to the core of the production economy which characterizes the corresponding core allocations. Our definition of the core requires that coalitions proposing a deviation take into account the consequences that changes in production plans may have for the counter-coalitions (considerate dominance). Our characterization holds in the presence of consumption externalities and an optimistic or a pessimistic attitude of coalition agents with respect to the behavior of outsiders. BACKGROUND: Phytophthora capsici is a destructive oomycete pathogen, causing huge economic losses for agricultural production. The genus Trichoderma represents one of the most extensively researched categories of biocontrol agents, encompassing a diverse array of effective strains. The commercial biocontrol agent Trichoderma harzianum strain T‐22 exhibits pronounced biocontrol effects against many plant pathogens, but its activity against P. capsici is not known. RESULTS: T. harzianum T‐22 significantly inhibited the growth of P. capsici mycelia and the culture filtrate of T‐22 induced lysis of P. capsici zoospores. Electron microscopic analyses indicated that T‐22 significantly modulated the ultrastructural composition of P. capsici, with a severe impact on the cell wall integrity. Dual RNA sequencing revealed multiple biological processes involved in the inhibition during the interaction between these two microorganisms. In particular, a marked upregulation of genes was identified in T. harzianum that are implicated in cell wall degradation or disruption. Concurrently, the presence of T. harzianum appeared to potentiate the susceptibility of P. capsici to cell wall biosynthesis inhibitors such as mandipropamid and dimethomorph. Further investigations showed that mandipropamid and dimethomorph could strongly inhibit the growth and development of P. capsici but had no impact on T. harzianum even at high concentrations, demonstrating the feasibility of combining T. harzianum and these cell wall synthesis inhibitors to combat P. capsici. As a consequence of anthropogenic activities and climate change, accelerated terrestrial sediment runoff is causing the gradual mudification of soft sediment estuarine habitats worldwide. Increased sediment mud content (< 63 µm) has been recognised to alter seagrass morphology and cause declines in primary production in unvegetated habitats. However, the effect of increased mud content on primary production in seagrass meadows remains largely unknown. To address this, primary production in intertidal seagrass meadows (Zostera muelleri) and adjacent unvegetated habitats was measured in situ using benthic incubation chambers across an existing sedimentary gradient (nine sites spanning 5–33% mud content). An additional two unvegetated mudflat sites (39–49% mud content) were also sampled to expand the gradient. Seagrass net (NPP) and gross primary production (GPP) was greater than in the adjacent unvegetated habitat and did not vary with mud content, even after standardising GPP by photosynthesising biomass (i.e. photosynthetic efficiency). In contrast, in the adjacent unvegetated habitat, photosynthetic efficiency declined with increasing mud content. Inclusion of the additional mudflat sites negatively impacted NPP, GPP, and photosynthetic efficiency in the unvegetated habitat. Thus, while primary production in seagrass meadows may have some resilience to future increases in mud content (up to ~33%), further degradation and loss of seagrass habitats could result in the expansion of unvegetated habitats and ultimately lead to production losses, likely to be most acute in areas with high mud content (≥ 39%). Background: Bovine mastitis results in significant economic losses for the dairy industry globally due to milk production losses and decreased herd efficiency. This research aimed to isolate, select, and characterize indigenous lactobacilli with probiotic properties. A total of 40 lactobacilli were isolated from healthy milk samples of cattle and identified at the species level through 16S rDNA sequencing. All isolates were initially screened for antimicrobial activity, and selected isolates underwent in vitro assessment of probiotic properties. Results: Among the lactobacilli isolates, varying levels of activity (9 to 19 mm) against cattle mastitogens; Stapylococcus aureus (Staph. aureus), Escherichia coli (E. coli) and Streptococcus dysgalactiae (Strep. dysgalactiae) were observed in the well diffusion assay. These isolates demonstrated auto-aggregation (ranging from 14.29 ± 0.96% to 62.11 ± 1.09%) and co-aggregate (ranging from 9.21 ± 0.14% to 55.74 ± 0.74%) with mastitogens after 2 h. Lactobacillus (Lb.) plantarum CM49 showed sensitivity to most antibiotics tested and exhibited strong inhibitory effects, with mean log10 reductions of 3.46 for Staph. aureus, 2.82 for E. coli, and 1.45 for Strep. dysgalactiae in co-culture experiments. Furthermore, Lb. plantarum CM49 significantly decreased the adhesion rate of mastitogens on the bovine mammary cell line and mouse model, demonstrating its potential effectiveness in preventing mastitis. Conclusion: It is concluded that Lb. plantarum CM49 has remarkable probiotic potential with activity against cattle mastitogens in the laboratory and cell culture and competitively excludes mastitogens from bovine mammary cells and ameliorates Staph. aureus-induced mastitis in mice. This study investigated the impact of temperature and humidity on milk production traits in Tunisian dairy cows, analysing population‐level trends and individual cow responses using various modelling techniques and heat stress (HS) indices. Two distinct datasets were used for this purpose: the first included 551,139; 331,654 and 302,396 test‐day records for milk, fat and protein yields, respectively. The second supplemented the production information with daily average (THIavg) and maximum (THImax) temperature‐humidity index (THI) data. Three main parts of analyses were conducted simultaneously: classical least squares, identification of HS thresholds and associated production losses and assessment of individual cow responses using random regression models (RRM) fitting various continuous functions that include/exclude individual effects. The best model, determined by goodness‐of‐fit measurements, was a cubic polynomial function that accounted for individual variation and THIavg as a heat load measure. HS thresholds were established at THIavg/THImax of 70/74 for milk yield, 50/55 for fat percentage, 59/66 for protein percentage, 54/63 for fat yield and 56/66 for protein yield. According to the fitted polynomial models, daily milk production traits showed a curvilinear decline with accelerated loss rates beyond the established thermal thresholds. However, for all models and thermal indices, maximum daily production losses remained below 164 g/day, 4.4 g/day and 6.1 g/day for milk, fat and protein yields, respectively. Despite these losses, the relatively high thermal thresholds and lower associated production losses suggest that Tunisian dairy cows can tolerate high heat loads. Agrobacterium tumefaciens can harm various fruit trees, leading to significant economic losses in agricultural production. It is urgent to develop new pesticides to effectively treat this bacterial disease. In this study, four new sesquiterpene derivatives, trichoderenes A-D (1-4), along with six known compounds (5-10), were obtained from the marine-derived fungus Trichoderma effusum. The structures of 1-4 were elucidated by extensive spectroscopic analyses, and the calculated ECD, ORD, and NMR methods. Structurally, the hydrogen bond formed between the 1-OH group and the methoxy group enabled 1 to adopt a structure resembling that of resorcylic acid lactones, thereby producing the ECD cotton effect. Compound 3 represents the first example of C12 norsesquiterpene skeleton. Compounds 1-10 were tested for their antimicrobial activity against A. tumefactions. Among them, compounds 1-3 and 8-10 exhibited inhibitory activity against A. tumefactions with MIC values of 3.1, 12.5, 12.5, 6.2, 25.0, and 12.5 µg/mL, respectively. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Laboratory methods to compare different rumen buffers are useful to select the optimal buffer for inclusion in ruminant diets. The influence of key method parameters such as buffer material, threshold pH and test duration are reported. The area under the titration curve was identified as the most sensitive measure of buffer performance. Current laboratory methods to assess the efficacy of rumen buffers do not correlate very well with actual rumen measurements. A new method to model an acidotic rumen provided results that were better related to in vivo data. The inclusion of rumen buffers in ruminant feeds has gained widespread adoption for the prevention of rumen acidosis, thereby avoiding the negative production and health consequences of low rumen pH and resulting in improved feed efficiency. Benchmarking and quality controlling the performance of rumen buffer materials is of significant interest to feed mills and end-user producers. The aim of this study was to evaluate, develop and optimise a laboratory protocol to consistently and robustly evaluate rumen buffering materials in order to predict their in vivo efficacy. Three different methods were evaluated for determining the buffering potential of carbonate buffer materials: (a) 2 and 8 h static pH, (b) 8 h fixed HCl acid load addition and (c) 3 h acidotic diet simulation using acetic acid. Buffer material, threshold pH, test duration and interactions between all three variables were significant (p < 0.001) in evaluating the performance of the buffer materials. The acidotic diet simulation was found to provide a different ranking of materials to the 8 h fixed HCl acid load methodology. Livestock production in the basins of the northern macro-region of Peru has as its primary source pastures of Lolium multiflorum L. 'Cajamarquino ecotype' (ryegrass CE) in monoculture, or in association with white clover Ladino variety, for feeding. The objective of this research work was the morphological characterisation, yield evaluation, and cutting time evaluation of two local genotypes (LM-58 and LM-43) of Lolium multiflorum L. in six locations. An ANOVA was performed to compare fixed effects and interaction. It was determined that the LM-58 genotype is intermediate, growing semi-erect, with a dark green colouring and 0.8 cm broadleaf, and can reach an average stem length of 46 cm, up to 1.6 cm. day−1, achieving fourth-leaf growth at 28 days under appropriate management conditions. Despite the differentiated characteristics, according to BLASTn evaluation, the ITS1 sequences showed a greater than 99.9% similar identification to Lolium multiflorum L., characterising it as such. It was determined that the LM-58 genotype outperforms LM-43, achieving a forage yield of 4.49 Mg. ha−1, a seed production of 259.23 kg. ha−1, and an average of 13.48% crude protein (CP). The best biomass yield (49.10 Mg. ha−1.yr−1) is reached at 60 days; however, at 30 days, there is a high level of CP (14.84%) and there are no differences in the annual protein production at the cutting age of 60 and 45 days. With the results of the present study, LM-58 from a selection and crossbreeding of 680 ryegrass EC accessions emerges as an elite genotype adapted to the conditions of the northern high Andean zone of Peru. piRNAs are crucial for transposon silencing, germ cell maturation, and fertility in male mice. Here, we report on the genetic landscape of piRNA dysfunction in humans and present 39 infertile men carrying biallelic variants in 14 different piRNA pathway genes, including PIWIL1, GTSF1, GPAT2, MAEL, TDRD1, and DDX4. In some affected men, the testicular phenotypes differ from those of the respective knockout mice and range from complete germ cell loss to the production of a few morphologically abnormal sperm. A reduced number of pachytene piRNAs was detected in the testicular tissue of variant carriers, demonstrating impaired piRNA biogenesis. Furthermore, LINE1 expression in spermatogonia links impaired piRNA biogenesis to transposon de-silencing and serves to classify variants as functionally relevant. These results establish the disrupted piRNA pathway as a major cause of human spermatogenic failure and provide insights into transposon silencing in human male germ cells. piRNAs are small RNA molecules found primarily in the testes of mice and men. Swarm electrification-driven communities face significant challenges, including implementing advanced distributed control in areas with limited ICT access and establishing trust among villagers hesitant to grant access to their assets. This paper proposes a distributed DC microgrid architecture for P2P energy exchange in these communities, ensuring stability and an effective exchange operation. By implementing a Blockchain marketplace specifically designed to suit the rural context, the proposed architecture ensures tracing of exchange transactions to fairly settle participants. Validation experiments demonstrate its efficacy in achieving peak shaving. It provides 11% of the requester's total demand from the community even while maintaining the constraint of reducing discharge–charge cycles to one per day, thereby preserving battery life. Transduction of producer cells during lentiviral vector (LVV) production causes the loss of 70–90% of viable particles. This process is called retro-transduction and it is a consequence of the interaction between the LVV envelope protein, VSV-G, and the LDL receptor located on the producer cell membrane, allowing lentiviral vector transduction. Avoiding retro-transduction in LVV manufacturing is crucial to improve net production and, therefore, the efficiency of the production process. In recent years, sugarcane production areas in Brazil have experienced a slower evolution in productivity, and one of the reasons for this is related to the increase in phytosanitary problems, such as the presence of pests. Nevertheless, limited attention has been paid to the development of tools for simulating the spatial dynamics of pests, including their impact on production. This study aims to simulate the potential population growth and dispersal of Diatraea saccharalis (sugarcane borer) in sugarcane crop fields and its estimated impacts on this crop production and to simulate biological control strategies. We developed an agent-based model to simulate the pest population and its dispersal in a one-hectare sugarcane crop field in Pederneiras, São Paulo, Brazil, delimited with the aid of satellite imagery, considering two scenarios: the first without biological control and the second with biological control using the parasites Trichogramma galloi and Cotesia flavipes. The model was developed using the NetLogo 6.3.0 software. The results indicate that the model accurately reproduced the infestation rates reported in the literature. Additionally, it provided insights into expected pest dispersal, potential production losses, and how the use of T. galloi in association with C. flavipes could mitigate production losses. We believe that the model can be used to simulate different biological control strategies and the implementation of integrated pest management (IPM) to achieve adequate control levels and greater productivity in sugarcane production. Fusarium wilt, caused by the fungus Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cubense (Foc), is one of the most devastating diseases affecting banana cultivation worldwide. Although Foc tropical race 4 (TR4) has not yet been identified in Brazilian production areas, the damage caused by races 1 and subtropical 4 is the main cause of production losses, especially affecting cultivars of the Prata subgroup. Thus, the induction of somaclonal variation is a promising strategy in biotechnology to generate genetic variability and develop resistant varieties. This study aimed to induce somaclonal variation in the Prata Catarina cultivar (AAB genome) using successive subcultures in Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium enriched with the plant regulator Thiadizuron (TDZ) at two concentrations: 1 and 2 mg/L. After evaluating the symptoms, we selected 13 resistant somaclones that were not infected by the fungus. Histochemical and histological analyses of the somaclones indicated possible defense mechanisms that prevented colonization and/or infection by Foc, such as intense production of phenolic compounds and the presence of cellulose and callose in the roots. Some somaclones showed no pathogen structures in the xylem-conducting vessels, indicating possible pre-penetration resistance. Furthermore, molecular studies indicated that the genetic alterations in the somaclones may have induced resistance to Foc without compromising the agronomic characteristics of the commercial genotype. Canadian nitrogen (N) fertilizer use has more than doubled since 1990 (1.2 to 2.9 MtN by 2021). Consequently, a better understanding of this trend is needed. A comprehensive set of recommended N rates (RNRs) that agreed with the fertilizer sales data from 1996 and 2001 was compared with the Fertilizer Use Survey (FUS). The FUS was conducted from 2014 to 2021, with 2017 being the most representative year for these data. Using non-parametric statistics, confidence intervals were derived from the histograms used to present the FUS data. N application rates from the RNR for canola, spring and Duram wheat, and oats in the west were all below their respective FUS confidence intervals, whereas N application rates for grain corn showed almost no difference in N use between the RNR and FUS. Crop-specific N application rates interpolated from the RNR and FUS were integrated over their respective crop areas and plotted against national fertilizer sales records from 1990 to 2021. The rapid increase in N use between 2001 and 2017 (0.89 MtN), 90% of it (0.80 MtN) in Western Canada, was primarily due to the increased application rates per crop, rather than crop area changes. The RNR-FUS interpolations were a good approximation of N sales records and could improve farm GHG emissions modelling. Aspergillus flavus is a cosmopolitan saprophytic fungus that infests several foodstuffs and is associated with adverse effects in humans. In Senegal, significant losses of groundnut production are mainly due to contamination caused by this species. This study evaluated in vitro antifungal activities of Cyperus articulatus, Cyperus rotundus and Lippia alba essential oils against A. flavus isolated from peanut seeds. Essential oils obtained by hydrodistillation of rhizomes of the two Cyperus species and leaves of L. alba were analyzed with GC-DIF and GC-MS. The essential oil yields from C. articulatus, C. rotundus and L. alba were 1.1%, 1.3% and 1.7%, respectively. These three samples had the following chemotypes: (i) mustakone (21.4%)/eudesma-4(15)-7-dien-1β-ol (8.8%)/caryophyllene oxide (5.9%), (ii) caryophyllene oxide (25.2%)/humulene epoxyde 2 (35.0%) and (iii) geranial (46.6%)/neral (34.6%). The three oils tested inhibited the growth of A. flavus at concentrations between 100 and 1000 ppm. The L. alba oil was the most effective with total clearance of A. flavus on PDA. For the essential oils of C. rotundus (93.65%) and C. articulatus (78.11%), the highest inhibition rates were obtained with a 1000 ppm dose. Effective yield forecasting is a key strategy for adaptation when facing food loss to climate variability. Currently, solar-induced chlorophyll fluorescence (SIF) is an emerging remote-sensing index owing to its high relevance to plant photosynthesis, and sensitivity to drought. Despite many studies have focused on drought monitoring and production assessment by SIF, little puts it into practice for in-season yield prediction. In this study, we combined multi-source satellite and meteorological data, especially coupling with subseasonal-to-seasonal (S2S) dynamic atmospheric prediction climate model (IAP-CAS FGOALS-f2), with an addition of SIF, to predict maize yields in the U.S. Corn Belt, based on the developed machine learning dynamical hybrid model (MHCF). By comparison, we found that SIF performed well in the correlation analysis with yield, with average correlations up to 0.719 in August. Then we utilized different algorithms, different models (S2S data for MHCF, climate data for the Benchmark), and different input combinations to train and predict maize yields. All four algorithms using SIF significantly improved prediction performance. S2S + VIs + SIF combination (FGOALS-f2、NDVI、EVI、SIF) can achieve the best performance, while the XGBoost algorithm reached 0.897 of R2. With the best combination, it can achieve 4 months before maize harvest (with R2 value of 0.85, and RMSE < 13 bu/acre). In 2012, the year had a severe drought, although predictive capability decreased in all the predictions, the models with SIF still maintained robust and improved the prediction (improved R2 by 5.92%, and RMSE decreased by 18.08% of XGBoost). According to the study, it can be expected, the combination of MHCF and SIF will play a greater role in subseasonal yield prediction. We also provide an operational proposition of hybrid yield forecasting method to fully integrating climate prediction and machine learning for early notice of crop production losses. According to their nutritional value, their ability to adapt to the various environmental conditions, and their versatility, cereals are among the most cultivated plants in the world. However, the ongoing climate changes subject crops to important environmental stress that for some varieties leads to high production losses. Therefore, the selection of species and varieties that are more versatile and adaptable to different environmental conditions can be important. However, the characteristics of some cereals are not completely known; this is a priority before aiming to improve their cultivation. The aim of this study is to characterize select species that are potentially suitable for local environmental conditions and that possess nutritional value. The elemental composition was assessed in different cereal species grown following intensive and organic agriculture practices. Six species were grown for this study with techniques of intensive agriculture: Triticum monococcum L., Triticum dicoccum L., Triticum aestivum L., variety Verna, Triticum durum Desf., variety Senatore Cappelli, Triticum durum Desf., variety Claudio, and Avena strigosa Schreb.; four of these were also grown following organic procedures: Triticum monococcum L., Triticum dicoccum L., Triticum aestivum L., variety Verna, and Triticum durum Desf., variety Senatore Cappelli. The study considered twenty elements, including major nutrients (Ca, K, Mg, P, and S), seven micronutrients (B, Cu, Fe, Mn, Mo, Se, and Zn), and trace elements with toxic properties (Al, Ba, Cd, Cr, Na, Rb, Sc, and Sr) that can be accumulated at the seed level. The results highlight the differences in the element concentrations in the cereal seeds in relation to the genus and species; the highest concentrations of the major nutrients appeared in T. monococcum; the concentrations were 6.9, 2.09, 7.2, and 2.9 mg/g for K, Mg, P, and S, respectively. The highest concentrations of certain micronutrients, B, Ca, Mo, and Se (16, 785, 3.69, and 0.34 μg/g), were in A. strigosa. There is also evidence that the element content can be affected by the adopted cultivation procedure; however, the effects of the growing procedure can be significantly different when different species are considered. T. monococcum, grown by an organic procedure, presented lower concentrations of the major nutrients, while it demonstrated a modest increase in the micronutrients in the T. durum variety organic S. Cappelli, and the production procedure did not affect the elemental composition of the T. aestivum variety Verna. The survey also highlights that the studied species and the growing procedure affected the capacity to accumulate and translocate trace hazardous elements for human health at the seed level. Simple Summary: The fruit fly, Neoceratitis asiatica Becker, is a frugivorous pest that causes substantial losses in the production of the goji berry, Lycium barbarum L. Identifying its distribution is significant for the monitoring and prevention of the pest. In this study, the MaxEnt model with optimized parameters was employed to predict the current and future (2050s and 2070s) distribution of the pest. We found that temperature and precipitation were the primary environmental factors influencing its distribution. The suitable habitats were predominantly distributed in northwestern China under various climate scenarios, and the projected suitable area in the future generally exhibited a decrease compared with the current projections. Climate warming affects the growth and development of pests, resulting in changes in their geographical distribution, which increases the difficulty in terms of prevention and control. The fruit fly, Neoceratitis asiatica (Becker), is a predominant frugivorous pest that causes serious yield loss in the goji berry, Lycium barbarum L. In recent years, with the expansion of cultivation area, the damage induced by the pest has become increasingly severe, significantly impeding the production of the goji berry. In this study, the potential suitable habitats of N. asiatica under current and future climate scenarios were simulated and predicted using the optimal MaxEnt model, based on the screening distribution records and environmental factors. The changes in the pest distribution under climate change were determined using ArcGIS. The results showed that the best combination of parameters for MaxEnt were feature combination (FC) = LQPT and regularization multiplier (RM) = 1. The dominant environmental factors influencing pest distribution were mean temperature of driest quarter, mean temperature of coldest quarter and precipitation of coldest quarter. Under different climate conditions, the suitable habitats of the pest primarily ranged between 27°–47° N and 73°–115° E. Under current climate conditions, the area of moderately and highly suitable habitats was 42.18 × 104 km2, and mainly distributed in Inner Mongolia (13.68 × 104 km2), Gansu (9.40 × 104 km2), Ningxia (5.07 × 104 km2), Qinghai (4.10 × 104 km2), and Xinjiang (3.97 × 104 km2) Provinces. Under future climate scenarios, the suitable area was projected to be lower than the current ones, except SSP245–2050s and SSP370–2070s, and the centroids of suitable habitats were mainly shifted to the northeast, except SSP370–2050s and SSP585–2070s. Duponchelia fovealis is responsible for great losses in the strawberry production, and entomopathogenic fungi (EPF) are an alternative to control this larva. They can be used in combination with other natural compounds with insecticidal activity, such as plant extracts or essential oils (EOs). Thus, our objectives are to evaluate the effects of Baccharis dracunculifolia and Baccharis uncinella EOs on strawberry leaves and third instar larvae of D. fovealis, and to evaluate their in vitro compatibility with strains of Beauveria bassiana and Cordyceps javanica. EOs were not phytotoxic to strawberry leaves at 2% v/v. Larval mortality ranged between 48% and 83% at 1% and 2%, and B. dracunculifolia EO at 2% presented the higher mortality. EO of B. uncinella (BU) at 1% was compatible with two strains of B. bassiana and C. javanica. Therefore, the combined use of BU EO with EPF may be an alternative to control D. fovealis. The loss of hydrocarbon production caused by the dynamic behavior of the inner boundary and propped fractures under long-term production conditions has been widely reported in recent studies. However, the quantitative relationships for the variations of the inner boundary and propped fractures have not been determined and incorporated in the semi-analytical models for the pressure and rate transient analysis. This work focuses on describing the variations of the inner boundary and propped fractures and capturing the typical characteristics from the pressure transient curves. A generalized semi-analytical model was developed to characterize the dynamic behavior of the inner boundary and propped fractures under long-term production conditions. The pressure-dependent length shrinkage coefficients, which quantify the length changes of the inner zone and propped fractures, are modified and incorporated into this multi-zone semi-analytical model. With simultaneous numerical iterations and numerical inversions in Laplace and real-time space, the transient solutions to pressure and rate behavior are determined in just a few seconds. The dynamic behavior of the inner boundary and propped fractures on transient pressure curves is divided into five periods: fracture bilinear flow (FR1), dynamic PFs flow (FR2), inner-area linear flow (FR3), dynamic inner boundary flow (FR4), and outer-area dominated linear flow (FR5). The early hump during FR2 period and a positive upward shift during FR4 period are captured on the log-log pressure transient curves, reflecting the dynamic behavior of the inner boundary and propped fractures during the long-term production period. The transient pressure behavior will exhibit greater positive upward trend and the flow rate will be lower with the shrinkage of the inner boundary. The pressure derivative curve will be upward earlier as the inner boundary shrinks more rapidly. The lower permeability caused by the closure of un-propped fractures in the inner zone results in greater upward in pressure derivative curves. If the permeability loss for the dynamic behavior of the inner boundary caused by the closure of un-propped fractures is neglected, the flow rate will be overestimated in the later production period. Piroplasm including Babesia spp. and Theileria spp. in cattle can cause illness that affects livestock productivity, resulting in significant production losses, especially in tropical and subtropical regions such as Thailand. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of bovine piroplasms and to identify these blood parasites based on the 18S ribosomal RNA gene in cattle in the northeastern part of Thailand. Piroplasmid infections among beef and dairy cattle were examined using nested PCR. Furthermore, amplicon DNA was sequenced and analyzed, and a phylogenetic tree was constructed to determine the genetic diversity and relationships of the parasite in each area. A total of 141 out of 215 (65.6%) cattle were positive for infection with Babesia or Theileria. DNA analysis revealed that infection by Babesia bigemina, Babesia bovis, Theileria orientalis, Theileria sinensis, and Theileria sp. were common piroplasms in cattle in this region, with a high sequence shared identity and similarity with each other and clustered with isolates from other countries. This study provides information on the molecular epidemiology and genetic identification of Babesia spp. and Theileria spp. in beef and dairy cattle to provide a better understanding of piroplasm infection in cattle in this region, which will help control these blood parasites. Effects of climate change and especially the associated climate variability require farmers to adjust to increasing frequencies of extreme events. In the agriculturally highly productive Romanian Plain, the frequency, intensity, and duration of heatwaves and drought have increased over the past 20 years. Although recent surveys revealed farmers' awareness of climate change and enumerated a number of farm adaptation measures in the Romanian context, a systems approach to adaptation that allows conclusions on farm vulnerability and adaptive capacity is missing. Here, we use archetypal analysis to elucidate and characterize for the first time the types of adaptation responses of arable farmers in southern Romania. We conducted semi-structured interviews with 30 farmers managing 51,500 ha located across the southern lowlands of Romania, selected for their diversity of management approaches. Farmers were asked about experienced climatic disturbances, crop production losses during the most extreme events over the past 5–10 years, and the adaptation measures they implemented over that period of time. In addition, structural characteristics of the farm were recorded. The adaptation measures were classified and mapped on the efficiency, substitution, and redesign gradient used to classify sustainability stages. Results revealed three archetypes of adaptation, consisting of measures at field and farm level ranging from predominantly efficiency-enhancing ones (e.g., crop choice and management and risk insurance) to complete farm redesign involving agrotechnical and financial management changes. Structural farm characteristics did not explain differences between farms in their association with one of the archetypes. Our approach and results show for the first time both the need for strengthening farmer-level support in one of Europe's key food production areas and the lessons that can be drawn from the outlier adaptation examples. The H− ion dynamics in the positive column of H2 DC glow discharge was studied by the laser photodetachment technique in a wide range of pressure, 0.1–3 Torr, and current, 1–30 mA, which cover a range of E/N from ∼40 Td up to ∼170 Td. Using a partial modulation of the discharge current, it is shown that the H−concentration follows H atom dynamics due to a fast detachment reaction with the atoms; the higher the H density, the lower the H–/ n e ratio. The dynamics of H atom density during discharge modulation was measured by time-resolved actinometry on Ar atoms, while H2 vibrational temperature was estimated by comparing measured and simulated H2 VUV absorption spectra. The analysis of the experimental dependencies of H− and H/H2 on the discharge parameters allowed estimating the effective rate constant of H− production in the discharge as a function of the reduced electric field. For this discharge model, self-consistent state-to-state vibrational kinetics as well as H2 highly excited electronic states were developed. The main processes that contribute to H− production and loss are discussed in detail. Dissociative attachment to vibrationally excited H2(v) molecules is the main channel of H – production but occurs via the excitation of the well-known low-energy (ϵ th ≈ 3 eV) shape resonance of H2−(X2Σu+) only at low E/N. At high E/N, the H– production mostly occurs via the excitation of high-energy H2− states, such as H2–(B2Σg+, A2Σg+, C2Πu) and Feshbach resonances similar to H2−(2Σg+) Rydberg state. AbstractPhosphate fertilization improves banana yields, but due to the physiological effects of phosphorus on plants, it can also be used to improve the physical and chemical characteristics of the fruits, which can contribute to increasing the processing of green bananas and reducing losses in the production chain. Herein, the productivity of bunches and fruit, the biometric analysis of the fruit, dry matter content, and the chemical composition of immature fruit were evaluated when the cultivar BRS SCS Belluna (AAA) was grown under different levels of phosphate fertilization for two harvest cycles. The results showed that phosphate fertilizer levels interfered with bunch yield and fruit mass in both cycles, leading to yield gains of 44.3% (1st cycle) and 84.0% (2nd cycle) in bunches and 51.8% (1st cycle) and 81.9% (2nd cycle) in fruits. Fertilization promoted gains of up to 33.5% in fruit mass and enhanced the resistant starch content in the pulp, leading to an increase of 15.1%. The phosphorus, potassium, and calcium contents in green fruits increased with fertilizer levels in the first cycle, improving nutritional quality. These results have useful applications because they indicate that adequate management of phosphate fertilization can increase the potential of the cultivar for industrial processing of green fruits and the nutritional quality of the derived products. Agriculture has gained increasing importance in response to the continuous growth of the world population and constant need for food. To avoid production losses, farmers commonly use pesticides. Mancozeb is a fungicide used in agriculture as this compound is effective in combating fungi that harm crops. However, this fungicide may also produce damage to non-target organisms present in soil and water. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the influence of exposure to mancozeb on survival rate, locomotor activity, behavior, and oxidative status utilizing adult zebrafish (Danio rerio) as a model following exposure to environmentally relevant concentrations of this pesticide. The experimental groups were negative control, positive control, and mancozeb (0.3; 1.02; 3.47; 11.8 or 40 μg/L). Zebrafish were exposed to the respective treatments for 96 hr. Exposure to mancozeb did not markedly alter survival rate and oxidative status of Danio rerio. At a concentration of 11.8 μg/L, the fungicide initiated changes in locomotor pattern of the animals. The results obtained suggest that the presence of mancozeb in the environment might produce locomotor alterations in adult zebrafish, which subsequently disrupt the animals' innate defense mechanisms. Manufacturing management and operations place heavy emphasis on monitoring and improving production performance. This supervision is accomplished through strategies of manufacturing performance management, a set of measurements and methods used to monitor production conditions. Over the last 30 years, the most prevalent measurement of traditional performance management has been overall equipment effectiveness, a percentile summary metric of a machine's utilization. The technologies encapsulated by Industry 4.0 have expanded the ability to gather, process, and store vast quantities of data, creating the opportunity to innovate on how performance is measured. A new method of managing manufacturing performance utilizing Industry 4.0 technologies has been proposed by McKinsey & Company (New York City, NY, USA), and software tools have been developed by PTC Inc. (Boston, MA, USA) to aid in performing what they both call digital performance management. To evaluate this new approach, the digital performance management tool was deployed on a Festo (Esslingen, Germany) Cyber-Physical Lab (FCPL), an educational mock production environment, and compared to a digitally enabled traditional performance management solution. Results from a multi-day production period displayed an increased level of detail in both the data presented to the user and the insights gained from the digital performance management solution as compared to the traditional approach. The time unit measurements presented by digital performance management paint a clear picture of what and where losses are occurring during production and the impact of those losses. This is contrasted by the single summary metric of a traditional performance management approach, which easily obfuscates the constituent data and requires further investigation to determine what and where production losses are occurring. In recent years, a new phenomenon of early olive drop is causing production losses in olive groves throughout northern Italy. To analyze the possible causes, field and laboratory trials were performed to assess the involvement of fungal pathogens and insect pests in this disease. External and internal symptoms of fungal infections or insect-feeding activities were researched. Fungi present in healthy and dislodged olives were investigated. The relationship between olives that fell and Halyomorpha halys (Stål) (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae) infestation was assessed in a controlled infestation trial, and the effectiveness of an insecticidal strategy in reducing early olive drop was tested in open field conditions. A comparable number of fungi, mostly endophytes, were isolated and identified from both healthy and dislodged olives. The damage observed on dislodged olives was primarily ascribed to pentatomids feeding activity. Six stink bugs species were found in olive canopies, that is, the invasive H. halys , which was by far the most abundant, and Acrosternum heegeri Fieber, Nezara viridula (Linnaeus), Palomena prasina (Linnaeus), Piezodorus lituratus (Fabricious), and Rhaphigaster nebulosa (Poda). Halyomorpha halys caused intense fruit drop in the controlled infestation trial, and its infestation level significantly correlated with the number of olives that fell. Native stink bugs, present in much lower population compared to H. halys , could also partially contribute to early drop of olives. Insect proof net significantly reduced the early olive drop disease, while insecticide applications only partially reduced the stink bugs population density and, proportionally, early olive drop. Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are low molecular weight molecules that tend to evaporate easily at room temperature because of their low boiling points. VOCs are emitted by all organisms; therefore, inter- and intra-kingdom interactions have been established, which are fundamental to the structuring of life on our planet. One of the most studied interactions through VOCs is between microorganism VOCs (mVOCs) and plants, including those of agricultural interest. The mVOC interactions generate various advantages for plants, ranging from promoting growth to the activation of defense pathways triggered by salicylic acid (systemic acquired resistance) and jasmonic acid (induced systemic resistance) to protect them against phytopathogens. Additionally, mVOCs directly inhibit the growth of phytopathogens, thereby providing indirect protection to plants. Among the current agricultural problems is the extensive use of chemicals, such as fertilizers, intended to combat production loss, and pesticides to combat phytopathogen infection. This causes problems in food safety and environmental pollution. Therefore, to overcome this problem, it is important to identify alternatives that do not generate environmental impacts, such as the application of mVOCs. Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) is one of the most important pathogens in pig production worldwide and responsible for enormous production and economic losses. PRRSV infection in gestating gilts and sows induces important reproductive failure. Additionally, respiratory distress is observed in infected piglets and fattening pigs, resulting in growth retardation and increased mortality. Importantly, PRRSV infection interferes with immunity in the respiratory tract, making PRRSV-infected pigs more susceptible to opportunistic secondary pathogens. Despite the availability of commercial PRRSV vaccines for more than three decades, control of the disease remains a frustrating and challenging task. This paper provides a comprehensive overview of PRRSV, covering its history, economic and scientific importance, and description of the viral structure and genetic diversity. It explores the virus's pathogenesis, including cell tropism, viral entry, replication, stages of infection and epidemiology. In order to obtain a more detailed and comprehensive relationship between the cavitation phenomenon and energy loss, this paper takes an NACA66 hydrofoil as an example to analyze the specific relationship between the cavitation flow field and energy dissipation by using entropy production theory, a ZGB cavitation model, and k-ε turbulence model which were modified by a Filter-Based Density Correction model (FBDCM). The results show that the modified k-ε model can effectively capture the morphology of cavity evolution in the cavitation flow field. The vortex dilatation term contributes the most to the vorticity transport in cavitation flow. The energy loss of the cavitation flow field is primarily composed of turbulent dissipation, which is primarily distributed in the area below the lifted attached cavity and inside the vortex induced by the cloud cavity. The direct dissipation entropy production is predominantly distributed in the area near the stagnation point of the hydrofoil's leading edge and inside the cavity. The wall entropy production is chiefly distributed in the area where the cavity is not covered. The cavitation entropy production mainly occurs on the vapor–liquid interface, and the value is negative, indicating that the vapor–liquid conversion in the cavitation process needs to absorb energy from the flow field. Simple Summary: In the past few years, mRNA vaccines have exhibited numerous advantages over conventional vaccines owing to their high potency, safety, efficacy, accelerated development cycles, and potential for rapid, low-cost manufacturing. Here, we made the first attempt to establish animal tests for mRNA vaccines prepared against BVDV-1, a virus responsible for bovine viral diarrhea in livestock. Our preliminary data indicate that the RNA technology holds great promise for the further development of efficient and secure BVDV vaccines. Bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV) is an RNA virus associated with severe economic losses in animal production. Effective vaccination and viral surveillance are urgent for the prevention and control of BVDV infection. However, the application of traditional modified live vaccines and inactivated vaccines is faced with tremendous challenges. In the present study, we describe the preclinical efficacy of two BVDV mRNA vaccines tested in mice and guinea pigs, followed by a field trial in goats, where they were compared to a commercial vaccine (formaldehyde inactivated). The two mRNAs were engineered to express the envelope protein E2 of BVDV-1, the most prevalent subtype across the world, through a 5′ cap-dependent or independent fashion. Better titers of neutralizing antibodies against BVDV-1 were achieved using the capped RNA in the sera of mice and guinea pigs, with maximum values reaching 9.4 and 13.7 (by −log2), respectively, on the 35th day post-vaccination. At the same time point, the antibody levels in goats were 9.1 and 10.2 for the capped and capless RNAs, respectively, and there were no significant differences compared to the commercial vaccine. The animals remained healthy throughout the experiment, as reflected by their normal leukogram profiles. Collectively, our findings demonstrate that mRNA vaccines have good safety and immunogenicity, and we laid a strong foundation for the further exploitation of efficient and safe BVDV vaccines. The growing demand for grapevine planting materials, due to growing global viticulture, is promoting research studies to improve vineyard sustainability. In greenhouse nurseries, peat is the most common growing medium component used although is an expensive and non-renewable material. Indeed, the reduction of peat exploitation is receiving great attention, and currently, several materials are being investigated as peat substitutes for composing the cultivation substrates. Biochar, a carbon-rich, recalcitrant charred organic co-product of the pyrolysis or gasification process, has emerged as a potentially promising replacement for soilless substrates in nursery plant material propagation. Although several studies carried out at greenhouse nurseries have shown that biochar, can improve plant growth, only a few studies have focused on the production of grapevine plant material. To fulfil this knowledge gap and push forward the sustainability of the nursery sector, we evaluated above and below-ground morpho-physiological traits of one-year-old potted grapevine cuttings growing with 30% volume of four different biochar types (i.e., from pyrolysis and gasification) mixed with commercial peat. The present study shows that biochar can be used in growing media mixes without adverse effects on roots, improves soil water retention and leaf water potential, and improves the effects on soil microbiology. SummaryEffective control of infectious bronchitis is a challenge in commercial poultry operations due to the high transmissibility of the virus. Although multiple IBV lineages are circulating in the United States, the DMV1639-type IBV strain (GI-17) is currently the major circulating variant, creating production losses in the poultry industry. This study aimed to test whether the combination of a GA08 (GI-27) and a Mass-type (GI-1) IB vaccines could significantly reduce the transmission of a DMV1639-type (GI-17) field IBV strain in 4-week-old commercial broilers. Half of them were directly challenged, whereas the other half of the group mates were put in contact twenty-four hours later. Two replicates of the same study set up, including ten directly challenged and ten contact birds per group, were run. Transmission of the challenge virus was significantly reduced in vaccinates (R=0.0), whereas all unvaccinated birds became infected (R=9.6). Reduced transmission of the DMV1639 IB challenge virus by the combined vaccination program in broiler chickens was also accompanied by clinical protection. This data is important because prevention of IBV transmission by vaccination will result in overall reduced viral replication and consequently in reduced likelihood of genetic changes that can lead to new variants. Global warming has led to the expansion of arid lands and more frequent droughts, which are the largest cause of global food production losses. In our previous study, we developed TaPYLox wheat overexpressing the plant hormone abscisic acid (ABA) receptor, which is important for the drought stress response in plants. TaPYLox showed resistance to drought stress and acquired water-saving traits that enable efficient grain production with less water use. In this study, we used TaPYLox to identify ABA-dependent and -independent metabolites in response to drought stress. We compared the variation of metabolites in wheat under well-watered, ABA treatment, and drought stress conditions using the ABA-sensitive TaPYLox line and control lines. The results showed that tagatose and L-serine were ABA-dependently regulated metabolites, because their stress-induced accumulation was increased by ABA treatment in TaPYLox. In contrast, L-valine, L-leucine, and DL-isoleucine, which are classified as branched chain amino acids, were not increased by ABA treatment in TaPYLox, suggesting that they are metabolites regulated in an ABA-independent manner. Interestingly, the accumulation of L-valine, L-leucine, and DL-isoleucine was suppressed in drought-tolerant TaPYLox under drought stress, suggesting that drought-tolerant wheat might be low in these amino acids. 3-dehydroshikimic acid and α-ketoglutaric acid were decreased by drought stress in an ABA-independent manner. In this study, we have succeeded in identifying metabolites that are regulated by drought stress in an ABA-dependent and -independent manner.
