The Leeds Anchor Network (or system) was established in 2017 with eight founder organizations. In 2024, membership was 14 and represented 1 in 7 of the Leeds city workforce. Leeds Beckett University is a founding member. This paper explains how the system originated and developed, the role Leeds Beckett University has played in that process, and how it has learned to frame and maximize its contribution to the city's prosperity, particularly through rearticulating its model of service learning.

Background: Researchers continue to investigate the predictive validity of motor assessment in learners with disorder of attention, motor control and perception (DAMP). Aim: Determine the prevalence of attention-deficit hyperactive disorder (ADHD) and developmental coordination disorder (DCD); assess their association in Grade 1 children. Setting: Two primary schools located within 30 km of the University of the Free State, Bloemfontein. Methods: Attention deficit disorder or attention deficit hyperactive disorder (ADD/ ADHD) was assessed using the strength and weaknesses of ADD/ADHD symptoms normal behaviour rating scale (SWAN) and DCD using the Movement Assessment Battery for Children -- 2 (MABC-2). Results: One-hundred-and-ninety-five children (97 girls; 98 boys) aged 6 years to 8 years participated. MABC-2 and SWAN data were available for 195 and 182 children, respectively. Across both genders, 180 participants (92.3%) had no, 10 (5.1%) had moderate and 5 (2.6%) had severe motor difficulties. No statistically significant association (p = 0.1537) between gender and DCD was found. Similarly, 31 (17.0%) participants had ADHD subtype ADHD-I, 21 (11.5%) ADHD-H and 11 (6.0%) ADHD-C; no significant associations between gender and ADHD-I (p = 0.5579), ADHD-H (p = 0.4938) or ADHD-C (p = 0.7654) were found. There were no significant associations between DCD and the ADHD subtypes ADHD-I (p = 0.2956), ADHD-H (p = 0.7570) and ADHD-C (p = 1.000). Conclusion: Prevalence of DCD in the current study is higher than elsewhere in the world. No significant association between DCD and ADHD was found. Contribution: The relatively high prevalence of DCD in this South African population and its significance in the motor development of young children.

This report presents an evaluation of students' experiences in a student-run clinic project in Aotearoa New Zealand, aiming to provide interprofessional learning opportunities and accessible health services to the community. Qualitative focus group interviews were conducted with students' post-clinical placement. A six-step thematic data analytic approach guided identification of three key themes: placement preparation and understanding expectations, interprofessional relationships and collaboration, and learning experience and value. Students reported positive experiences in this student-run clinic placement, including in respect to collaborative experiences, the development of interprofessional relationships, and value of the learning experience. This report highlights the need for enhanced pre-placement preparation and clarification of expectations regarding a community-based interprofessional placement experience, particularly for first year students. The student-run clinic model has potential to address healthcare disparities and enhance learning through community-engaged experiences. Results provide insights for educational institutions and healthcare providers looking to implement similar initiatives, emphasising collaborative partnerships and student-centred interprofessional education.

Reduced hours of instruction are reported within the gross anatomy education literature. Anatomy instruction continues to be challenged with motivating and inspiring learners to value the contribution of gross anatomy knowledge to their career development alongside increased organizational demands for efficiency and effectiveness. To address these demands, this retrospective study sought to understand how the relative timing and amount of gross anatomy instruction were related to examination performance. Undergraduate and graduate students between 2018 and 2022 were assigned to three cohorts determined by enrollment in prosection-based anatomy only (n = 334), concurrent enrollment in prosection- and dissection-based anatomy in the same semester (n = 67), or consecutive enrollment in the courses one year apart (n = 43). Concurrent students had higher prosection-based anatomy examination scores than prosection-only and consecutive students. Consecutively, enrolled students outperformed concurrently enrolled students on the first two dissection examinations but showed no performance differences on the third and fourth dissection examinations. While the results on the timing and presentation of anatomical instruction were inconclusive, the results do support increased instructional time using both prosection and dissection modalities concurrently to improve performance on identification-based gross anatomy examinations.

Math development in children relies on several underlying cognitive functions, including executive functions (EF), working memory (WM), and visual-motor abilities, such as visual-motor integration (VMI). Understanding how these cognitive factors contribute to children's math performance is critical to supporting math learning and long-term math success. The present quasi-experimental waitlist control study (N = 28) aimed to (a) examine the unique contributions of EF, WM, and VMI to math abilities among children ages 5-8 years old with neurodevelopmental difficulties; (b) determine whether a math intervention (the Mathematics Interactive Learning Experience; MILE) that supports these cognitive processes was effective when modified to be delivered to small groups in a school setting, and (c) examine whether any participant characteristics, such as age or IQ, were correlated with post-intervention math score changes. At baseline, participants' math scores were significantly below the normative mean in all math content areas (ps < 0.01). EF, WM, and VMI were highly correlated with math ability; however, verbal WM was the only unique predictor of math ability in regressions analysis. Compared to a waitlist control group, children in the immediate MILE intervention group achieved significantly greater math gains overall. When all children who ultimately completed the intervention were considered together, significant improvement was observed in more than half of math content areas. Furthermore, at the individual level, 85.7% of participants showed reliable change in at least one math content area. Implications for supporting math learning in children with neurodevelopmental difficulties are discussed.

Proprioceptive kinaesthetic control underpins motor movements of developing children and can be influenced by several factors. The main aim of this study was to establish proprioceptive kinaesthetic coordination differences in six-year-olds from different school quintiles, of different genders, and with different handedness. A total of 193 six-year-olds from 10 schools of different quintiles in the Motheo District, Mangaung, were included, of which 97 (50.3%) were boys and 96 (49.7%) were girls. A quantitative cross-sectional study design was followed to determine proprioceptive kinaesthetic coordination differences. Right-handed participants performed significantly better than left-handed participants in the Finger-to-Nose task (p = 0.0125) when moving and positioning their dominant arm and hand. When using their dominant arm, significant differences in the shoulder-level-arm-raise (p = 0.0288) favoured boys. Girls showed superior execution of the force perception task (p = 0.0322). In conclusion, significant proprioceptive kinaesthetic coordination differences in six-year-olds were mainly not evident. Future work should explore proprioceptive kinaesthetic coordination differences in children of other ages and determine the practical implications of identified differences.

3q29 deletion syndrome (3q29del) is associated with neuropsychiatric and neurodevelopmental phenotypes. We previously reported that graphomotor weakness is present in up to 78% of individuals with 3q29del. We have now explored nuances of the graphomotor phenotype and its association with other comorbidities in this population. Participants were recruited from the online 3q29 registry (3q29deletion.org) for two days of deep phenotyping. 32 individuals with 3q29del (62.5% male) were evaluated with the Beery-Buktenica Developmental Test of Visual-Motor Integration (VMI) to assess visual-motor integration. Participants were also evaluated with measures of cognitive ability, executive function, adaptive behavior, and school function. Males with 3q29del performed significantly worse than females on the VMI and Motor Coordination subtest. VMI performance was significantly associated with ADHD diagnosis and cognitive ability. Compared to published data from individuals with 22q11.2 deletion syndrome, individuals with 3q29del showed significantly more impairment. The 3q29 deletion is associated with substantial deficits in visual-motor integration, Visual Perception, and Motor Coordination. Our data suggests that 3q29del may qualify as a nonverbal learning disability. Future studies should assess whether individuals with 3q29del would benefit from early interventions, including occupational therapy.

Can math concepts be experienced through the sensory modality of balance? Balance Board Math (BBM) is a set of pedagogical math activities designed to instantiate mathematical concepts through stimulation to the vestibular sense: an organ in the inner ear that detects our bodily balance and orientation. BBM establishes the different ways children spontaneously rock and move as the basis for inclusively exploring mathematical concepts together across diverse sensory profiles. I describe two activity sets where students explore focal concepts by shifting their balance on rockable balance boards: "the Balance Number Line," using analog materials to foster understandings of the number line and negative numbers, and "Balance Graphing," using sensors and a digital display to foster exploration of functions and graphing concepts, including the parameters of trigonometric functions and function addition. I outline proposed ways that engaging with concepts through balance-activating movement can change learners' mathematical thinking and learning.

This paper presents a systematic framework of the most needed Vocational Education and Training (VET) reforms in The Azores, a Portuguese outermost region. Our report is based on a participatory research approach involving the perspectives of five different groups of stakeholders. Our data was collected in 18 virtual world-café sessions (n = 164 participants--58 trainees; 21 trainers; 42 institutional representatives; 21 unemployed people registered at local public employment agencies; and 22 businesspersons; M age = 45.20; 60.37 women). Based on content analysis, we identified three main priorities to restructure vocational training policies: (a) VET perception and valorization, comprising strategies to disseminate a more positive social representation of VET in the region; (b) horizontal coordination between stakeholders, including effective ways of coordinating and sharing information; and (c) vertical coordination in terms of VET improvements of "curricula," funding models, and investments in the sector's human capital. Our correspondence analysis did not show significant differences regarding the prevalence of the three priorities across the five groups of stakeholders. We interpret and contextualize our results according to relevant publicly available data about the region, and an integrated governance lens to inform policy design in outermost territories.

This article comprehensively reviews motor impairments in children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) to: (1) determine the prevalence of motor problems in children with ASD; (2) understand the nature of motor difficulties in ASD and whether they are consistent with developmental coordination disorder (DCD); and (3) determine if the term DCD was used as a co-occurring diagnosis in children with ASD after publication of the DSM-5 in 2013. The following databases were systematically searched: MEDLINE, EMBASE, CINAHL, and PsycINFO from 2010 to December 2021. Articles were included if they: (1) were peer-reviewed and published in a scientific journal; (2) included children with ASD who were between 5 and 12 years; (3) used motor or function measures to assess motor abilities in children with ASD. Studies that included children with intellectual disabilities were excluded. Two independent reviewers reviewed titles, abstracts, and full-text articles for inclusion. Twenty-seven studies met the inclusion criteria and were assessed for quality by two independent reviewers using the Appraisal tool for Cross-Sectional Studies. The majority of articles (92.5%) indicated that 50-88% of children with ASD had significant motor impairments on standardized motor assessments and/or functional questionnaires. The nature of motor and function problems in ASD were consistent with DCD; however, only three out of 20 papers (15%) that were published from 2014 described the motor problems as DCD. One study reported that 15.1% of children with ASD with motor impairments had a co-occurring diagnosis of DCD, suggesting that DCD is under-recognized in this clinical population.

Previous studies have identified patterns of coordinated control when adults combine gait and grasping. What remains unclear is whether the coordination of these two tasks differs between adolescent and adult groups. Groups of adults and adolescents were asked to walk across an instrumented gait mat in three conditions: walk forward, walk and grasp a small target, and walk and grasp a large target. Spatiotemporal measures of gait/gait variability and grasp/grasp variability were quantified. Both adolescents and young adults exhibited decreased velocity, decreased step-extremity ratio, and increased percent of gait cycle spent in double support when grasping compared to walking alone. The major influence of grasping was seen during the final step before grasp in both groups. Change scores between walk forward and walk and grasp conditions were larger for adolescents. Furthermore, spatiotemporal measures of gait and grasping were more variable in adolescents. These results suggest that superimposing grasp onto gait is more challenging for adolescents than young adults. The challenges associated with combining these two tasks is particularly evident in the last step prior to object contact and suggests that the increased planning and execution demands required to perform these coordinated skills affects adolescents to a greater extent than young adults.

In January 2021 the author read "Hey, Kiddo" by Jarrett Krosoczka. The author connected on so many levels with this graphic novel memoir, and knew that it would speak to their students, as well. Krosoczka not only wrote "Hey, Kiddo," but he illustrated it, as well. The author states they knew the healing impact a book could have when a reader connected with characters, events, or themes. The author's high school houses the district's arts magnet school, and since the Inspire Grant proposal had an art focus, they reached out to the director of the magnet program. The author shared their ideas for working with the magnet classes to connect with students to participate in what would eventually become a multilayered event. The program was voluntary, and they ended up with approximately eighty students choosing to participate. The premise behind the grant was for students to know they weren't alone and to provide them with outlets for healing. The graphic novel format removed a literacy barrier and made the book accessible to students at many reading levels throughout the school. Once the books were delivered to students, small-group sessions with counselors were scheduled to take place two weeks out, allowing students time to read the book. Copies of the book were supplied to the school counselors, as well. The goal of the small groups was to provide students a safe place to discuss the emotional story and to process feelings and personal connections that arose from their reading. The grant also included a school visit with goats. Students of all grade levels, social groups, and ability levels sat side by side with staff to pet and groom the different animals. According to the author, they were one community healing together.

In recent years, obstacles to physical mobility, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, have hastened the turn towards online platforms for educational and social activities. Many study abroad programs have had to adapt to such circumstances and embrace virtual environments in the face of limited physical mobility. In this case study, we look at how one multi-university program, the UGPN Academy, was able to expand international student learning efforts despite travel limitations due, in part, to adapting to online communication technologies and environments. Through comparison of surveys administered to participants pre- and post-participation, students reported that having an online community as a source of social support, as well as learning about different experiences during a global pandemic, were two strengths of the program. In addition, students reported becoming more familiar with different online technologies as well as feeling more open to people from diverse backgrounds and international careers. These findings contribute to a further understanding of Internationalisation at Home (IaH) as a useful model that can be extremely valuable in its own right. Although IaH is not a replacement for physical mobility, it may provide its own benefits, such as providing a collaborative, diverse online community as a source of social and professional support, networking and opportunities for international learning experiences for students who are unable to participate in traditional study abroad programs. Diversifying and further integrating such virtual platforms can then be seen as a part of best practices rather than a replacement for traditional modes of international cultural exchange.

Previous literature has suggested the existence of a close relationship between individuals' intellectual abilities and their cognitive profile, understood as their performance in tasks tapping into the different cognitive domains. This relationship has typically been discussed in populations characterized as having high intellectual abilities, as is the case of gifted children and adolescents. In this study, the cognitive profile in domains of memory, attention, coordination, perception, and reasoning of a group of gifted children and adolescents was contrasted with a control group similar in age distribution, gender and socioeconomic level but with normotypical development. The results indicated that participants in the gifted group scored higher than those in the control group in all cognitive domains. The differences in cognitive abilities were not consistent across all areas, meaning that some cognitive abilities did not show significant differences, while others did. These results help to identify a more precise cognitive profile of gifted individuals, yielding a better understanding of the relationship between intelligence and cognitive abilities. The study provides evidence that allows delving into the most differential and characteristic aspects of giftedness.

The role of district research leaders (DRLs) in central offices has emerged as a strategy for improving the creation, flow, and use of research knowledge in decision-making. However, there is limited information about the responsibilities, opportunities, and challenges inherent in these roles. This exploratory qualitative study features document analysis to examine the individual backgrounds, job demands, and organizational contexts of DRLs. The result of this study suggest that multiple pathways to the DRL role exist, but few include formal training in knowledge brokering. Further findings suggest that DRL jobs are complex and entail diverse tasks, but share a focus on research leadership and coordination, identifying and obtaining relevant research information, and facilitating evidence -informed change. Moreover, organizational contexts varied in supportiveness for knowledge brokering work. Overall, there was limited evidence of alignment across individual, job, and organizational characteristics, signaling an opportunity to better define and support those in DRL roles.

Classroom observation rubrics are a widely adopted tool for measuring the quality of teaching and provide stable conceptualisations of teaching quality that facilitate empirical research. Here, we present four statistical approaches for analysing data from classroom observations: Factor analysis, Rasch modelling, latent class or profile analysis, and formative measurement models. Each statistical model conceptualises the latent variable differently, which may or may not align with the observation rubric's conceptualisation of teaching quality. We discuss the differences across these models, focusing on the alignment between the rubric's conceptualisation of teaching quality and the model's modelling of the latent variable. We discuss the need to align model selection with observation rubric so that the measured teaching quality reflects the theoretically conceptualised teaching quality.

This article examines how university students assess the coordination of the courses their programmes contain and how course coordination affects how content they are with their studies. The study is based on survey data from more than 5700 students, collected through Lund University's Student Barometer. The survey examines the students' views on course coordination based on content, workload, administrative procedures and whether or not teachers of different courses provide coherent information. The analysis shows that the coordination of courses has a significant impact on how students experience their studies. The better the course coordination, the more satisfaction students will get from their studies; and the correlation remains stable when several other factors of importance for student satisfaction are included in the analysis. The conclusion of the study is thus that course coordination clearly contributes to explaining variations in students' appreciation of their university studies.

Purpose: To establish a consensus on the complexity of 16 fundamental movement skills (FMS). Initially, complexity was defined as how difficult it would be to teach FMS to children and for the children to learn them. Method: The study was conducted using a modified Delphi method and a mobile application called Move Improve® to showcase video demonstrations of 16 FMS. Six experts discussed and rated the complexity of each FMS using a 5-point Likert scale until a 75% consensus was obtained during three rounds. Result: Dribble was rated as the most complex (average five) and run as the least (average one). The highest percentage of consensus at 100% was obtained for dribble, overhead throw, run, and skip during Round 3. Conclusion: Eye--hand or eye--foot coordination, laterality, and the environment were deemed as the most influential factors when rating the complexity of FMS.

This article contributes knowledge regarding professionals' experiences, conceptions, and expectations of a coordinator role in preschools/schools while multiprofessionally collaborating for supporting children "at risk". Data were collected via semi-structured interviews with professionals involved in a project in a Swedish municipality intended to prevent children from getting into difficulties. Procedures for thematic analysis were followed, and Billig's ideological dilemmas were used as a methodological tool. A coordinator role, assigned to head teachers, emerges as tense where dilemmas need to be addressed. The dilemmas are related to opposed, overarching ideas -- education for "all" versus treatment for specific children -- which require coordination. This article suggests that dialogues between actors need to be held when opposite positions can be articulated. To initiate and maintain such dialogues, a coordinator role is important.

Background: Pediatric programs focused on treating chronic pain often do not include an educational liaison (EL) to coordinate services between the patient's medical home and school. As chronic pain in youth can have deleterious effects on school functioning, collaboration between the medical home and the school system are needed to assure these students receive appropriate accommodations. Contributions to Theory: This manuscript describes a model of coordinated care for students with chronic pain that includes a systemic strategy for collaborative care across settings. Specifically, the role of an EL is described in the context of advocating for the patient to receive appropriate educational accommodations. Conclusions: This paper provides a guide for caregivers and professionals to assure appropriate access to support services across settings. Recommendations are included for school accommodations and services to improve academic functioning and outcomes for students with chronic pain.

"Research Findings:" The present study aims to investigate the relationship between physical fitness and visuomotor integration in young children. A total of 242 three- to six-year-old preschoolers were randomly selected from a preschool in Shenzhen, China and their visuomotor integration and physical fitness were evaluated using the Beery Buktenica Developmental Test of Visual Motor Integration (VMI) and the preschool physical fitness test, respectively. Descriptive and standard-based analysis, t-test, analysis of variances (ANOVAs), correlation analysis, and mediation analysis were conducted using SPSS. Results showed that children with different ages had significant differences in their standing long jump and visuomotor integration ability (F = 7.56, p < 0.001; F = 34.36, p < 0.001) while gender difference was found in children's throwing (t = 4.18, p < 0.001). Furthermore, children's visuomotor integration significantly correlated with their 20 m fast run and throwing (r = 0.31 and 0.19, p < 0.01). Finally, children's performance in 20 m fast run and standing long partially mediated the relationship between age and visuomotor integration. "Practice or Policy:" The findigs highlighted the importance of strengthening young children's physical fitness and its relationship to their visuomotor integration. Implications for theory and practice are also included.

A complex dynamic systems perspective was applied to explore how mother and child mutually shape interpersonal coordination. Applying a microanalytic design, this study examined the moment-to-moment interaction behavior of 39 Dutch mothers and their three- and four-year-old children (53.8% girls, predominantly White) during a collaboration task. Fine-grained time-series data were extracted about the verbal, affective, and body movement modalities. "Research Findings:" Cross-recurrence quantification analysis showed that mothers and children were coupled within all three modalities. Recurrent behaviors were found with varying delays, spanning from the immediate to the entire length of the interaction. Many of the interactions were characterized by a certain degree of patternedness, whereby the amount of patternedness varied substantially between dyads. Measures of interpersonal coordination were not associated between modalities. "Practice or Policy:" Next to the content of interaction behavior (e.g., what a parent actually says), practitioners should also consider how behaviors of a mother and her child vary together. Thereby, an appraisal of the caregiver--child relationship should not merely focus on caregiving behavior, but acknowledge the active and autonomous involvement of the child. It remains to be investigated how different patterns of interpersonal coordination may serve as a diagnostic marker of (mal)adaptive child development.

In this reflective piece, representatives of the agencies that funded and managed the Early Learning Systems Research program -- the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and the World Bank -- take stock of recent global developments in research, policy, and financing by donors for early childhood education (ECE). A rapid increase in research on early childhood interventions has secured a consensus that in vesting in early matters for later outcomes in life. In recent years, development finance institutions have taken unprecedented steps to incorporate ECE into their policies and approaches, have helped build research capacity, and fostered communities of practice on ECE. Despite these developments, however, the share of official development assistance (ODA) for ECE remains extremely low. Limited prioritization of ECE by donors may be reinforced by a persistence of low demand for ECE financing from governments and differences in delivery mechanisms between ECE and other levels of education. The authors conclude with considerations for researchers, practitioners, and policymakers interested in increasing donor finance for ECE.

Batting or striking with a long-handled implement is an important fundamental motor skill used in several lifetime activities. This article outlines basic movement concepts that are developed through batting and provides recommendations that can serve as both curricular options for physical education and a potential homework idea for kids to explore at home.

Attentional control theory indicates that concentration is considered an important variable that contributes to learning. There are some devices for players to practice their concentration, but there are few virtual reality (VR) designs which can increase the level of difficulty for students to discipline their mental concentration with incongruent hands-on movement. To address this gap, a VR system named Tracking Fun was designed, which requires hand-eye coordination to move a ball to a target hole. To explore the effect of playing Tracking-fun on players' concentration performance, the study explored the relationship among entity beliefs of concentration ability (EBCA), intrinsic cognitive load (ICL), failure attribution of VR operation (FAVRO), flow experience, and gameplay performance. Students from a skills-based senior high school took part in this experimental research, and 259 valid questionnaires were returned. The research results showed that: EBCA can positively predict cognitive load; EBCA can positively predict FAVRO; ICL and flow have a negative correlation; FAVRO can negatively predict flow experience when interacting with VR; and flow can negatively predict gameplay performance. Based on the results, enriching the opportunity and difficulty level of Tracking-fun can enhance players' concentration. Follow-up research suggestions are proposed.

Purpose: This study examined how speakers adapt to fundamental frequency (f[subscript o]) errors that affect the use of prosody to convey linguistic meaning, whether f[subscript o] adaptation in that context relates to adaptation in linguistically neutral sustained vowels, and whether cue trading is reflected in responses in the prosodic cues of f[subscript o] and amplitude. Method: Twenty-four speakers said vowels and sentences while f[subscript o] was digitally altered to induce predictable errors. Shifts in f[subscript o] (±200 cents) were applied to the entire sustained vowel and one word (emphasized or unemphasized) in sentences. Two prosodic cues--f[subscript o] and amplitude--were extracted. The effects of f[subscript o] shifts, shift direction, and emphasis on f[subscript o] response magnitude were evaluated with repeated-measures analyses of variance. Relationships between adaptive f[subscript o] responses in sentences and vowels and between adaptive f[subscript o] and amplitude responses were evaluated with Spearman correlations. Results: Speakers adapted to f[subscript o] errors in both linguistically meaningful sentences and linguistically neutral vowels. Adaptive f[subscript o] responses of unemphasized words were smaller than those of emphasized words when f[subscript o] was shifted upward. There was no relationship between adaptive f[subscript o] responses in vowels and emphasized words, but adaptive f[subscript o] and amplitude responses were strongly, positively correlated. Conclusions: Sensorimotor adaptation occurs in response to f[subscript o] errors regardless of how disruptive the error is to linguistic meaning. Adaptation to f[subscript o] errors during sustained vowels may not involve the exact same mechanisms as sensorimotor adaptation as it occurs in meaningful speech. The relationship between adaptive responses in f[subscript o] and amplitude supports an integrated model of prosody.

For effective teamwork, especially in demanding learning situations like a hackathon, coordination is crucial as it contributes to mutual trust and shared mental models of team members. However, teams experience challenges that mar team coordination. Research has shown that interpersonal skills such as socially-shared emotion regulation (SSER) can be key in dealing with such challenges. We examined the relationship between SSER and mutual trust, and SSER and shared mental models in the context of a hackathon. Adapted from a small SSER scale, we built a 27-item questionnaire to examine SSER and its relationship with mutual trust and shared mental models in programming teams. We also used heat maps to provide an overview of individual team members' perceptions of their teams' SSER strategy application, mutual trust, and strength of shared mental model bonds within the team. Regarding the relationship between SSER and shared mental models, our analyses revealed signification association (correlation) between: (1) SSER situation modification and shared mental model: task and communication skills and (2) SSER situation modification and shared mental model: team dynamics and interaction. For the relationship between SSER and mutual trust, our analyses revealed significant relationships between: (1) SSER situation modification and perceived trustworthiness, (2) SSER cognitive change and perceived trustworthiness, (3) SSER response modulation and cooperative behaviors, and (4) SSER response modulation and monitoring behaviors. These relationships highlight the power of SSER in building key team coordination mechanisms and strengthening team performance.

Professionals are increasingly involved in attempts to understand and address problems with wicked tendencies, which require crossing boundaries between disciplines, organisations and stakeholder perspectives. This multiple-case study investigated six higher professional education courses in order to develop better understanding of how teachers foster the development of students' boundary-crossing expertise through enhancing relevant learning processes in courses focusing on wicked-problem-solving in interdisciplinary and multi-stakeholder contexts. We viewed students' relevant learning processes as learning mechanisms that foster boundary awareness (identification and reflection) and boundary work (coordination and transformation) and considered teachers to be enablers of such learning processes. Data came from semi-structured interviews with teachers, students and stakeholders, observations and document study. We identified nine interrelated enabling strategies teachers used. To foster students' observation of wickedness through boundary awareness, they encouraged mutual acquaintance, open exploration, opportunities for learning, and multi-perspectivity. To foster students' action through boundary work, they encouraged initial contact, joint action and multifaceted perspectives on value creation. To foster the interplay between boundary awareness and work, they encouraged successive refinement and structure while embracing wickedness. Balancing the tension that students experience at boundaries when navigating complexity, uncertainty and value divergence was identified as an important element of these enabling strategies.

This case provides students with an opportunity to observe RunCzech, a historically successful sport event organization, as they navigate a crisis and strive to satisfy all stakeholders, with emphasis on the sponsor stakeholders. Students are familiarized with the challenges facing RunCzech and their corresponding response. The event organizers strive to mitigate these challenges with their crisis management strategy. This strategy includes creating new events in partnership with their sponsors while remaining in compliance with changing government restrictions. RunCzech's crisis management, and the communication surrounding it, is framed in terms of Coombs's situational crisis communication theory. The students see innovative crisis management, with a primary focus on sponsors as stakeholders, before being tasked with communicating these crisis management efforts to one specific sponsor, adidas.

Speech problems affect about 66% of children with classic galactosemia (CG), but limited evidence is reported on early motor and sensory motor development in this at-risk population. Research has been focused on speech and language development, leaving a paucity of data on motor and sensory differences. This paper describes preliminary data regarding sensory motor and motor development patterns in young children with CG. Babble Boot Camp© (BBC) is an NIH-funded randomized control trial (RCT) implementing proactive interventions designed to support the speech language development of infants with CG. Cases were randomly assigned to a motor-first group (Motor Milestones), receiving virtual occupational therapy through 14 months, or a speech-first group, receiving virtual speech therapy through 14 months. All cases received speech and language therapy from 15 to 24 months. Controls, typically developing infants, did not receive occupational therapy or speech therapy. Participants were recruited through social media, advertisements, metabolic clinics, and the Galactosemia Foundation. Infants in the motor milestones group were assessed with the Developmental Assessment of Young Children and Sensory Profile-2 pre-enrollment (<6 months of age) and post-treatment follow-up at 2.5, 3.5, and 4.5 years of age. Results show that 17.5% of participants with CG had delays in gross motor, 22.5% in fine motor, and 45% in sensory processing. Data from the Motor Milestones portion of BBC are important emerging evidence for occupational therapy in early intervention, preschool, and outpatient settings. This research supports the need for occupational therapy services during early intervention to minimize or prevent long-term motor and sensorimotor delays in infants with CG. Understanding patterns and addressing literature gaps helps support the need for occupational therapists to address motor delays, improve activities of daily living, play, promote functional independence, and provide caregiver education to best support the occupational performance of children with CG.

This study determined the test-retest reliability of 10 sensorimotor skills assessed by the Senaptec Sensory Station in a population of 100 (80 female, age = 21.6 ± 2.8 years) college-aged individuals (18-30 years). Separate intraclass correlation coefficients (ICCs) with a two-way mixed-effects model, absolute agreement, and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated. Additionally, the standard error of measurement and minimal detectable change values were determined to examine clinical applicability. Go/no-go, multiple-object tracking, eye-hand coordination, depth perception, and reaction time demonstrated good reliability (ICCs = 0.81-0.88). Target capture and perception span demonstrated moderate reliability (ICCs = 0.51-0.63). Visual clarity, contrast sensitivity, and near-far quickness demonstrated poor reliability (ICCs = 0.28-0.43). Assessments involving decision-making, anticipation, and spatial awareness demonstrated good reliability, while most assessments of visual skills demonstrated poor reliability. Overall, go/no-go, multiple-object tracking, eye-hand coordination, depth perception, and reaction time from the Senaptec Sensory Station are reliable and can be administered clinically in a healthy, college-aged population.

Co-authors Lee and Peters collaborated across 2019-2021 on a community-engaged project with Carclew's ExpressWay Arts. They ask, when your creative practice is premised on relationship building, belonging and care, how do you step away from projects responsibly, meaningfully and carefully? This article explores how establishing rituals of closure in every workshop, explicitly naming the ending, acknowledging how the creative relationship may change after the projects conclusion, and celebrating the work, are four approaches that can support facilitators to finish projects with care.

District central offices are increasingly partnering with external organizations, such as professional development providers, to facilitate instructional improvement. Given the highly interdependent nature of partnership work, partners often need to coordinate their work together. We define coordination as how partners align different actions so that actions work in concert to support shared tasks. Despite the importance of coordination, existing research says little about how partners coordinate their work together and the implications for their change efforts. Drawing on theory on organizational routines, we conducted a case study of a district central office partnership using interviews, observations, and an artifact analysis. We found that partners aimed to coordinate their routinized work together through two key mechanisms: connections between routines and opportunities for collective reflection. How these coordination mechanisms interacted mattered for whether partners enacted coordinated change. We close with implications for research and practice. Our work sheds light into how and when partners can work in concert with each other--rather than operating at odds--during change efforts.

Research suggests that sensorimotor difficulties in autism could be reduced by providing individuals with explicit contextual information. To test this, we examined autistic visuomotor control during a virtual racquetball task, in which participants hit normal and unexpectedly-bouncy balls using a handheld controller. The probability of facing each type of ball was varied unpredictably over time. However, during cued trials, participants received explicit information about the likelihood of facing each uncertain outcome. When compared to neurotypical controls, autistic individuals displayed poorer task performance, atypical gaze profiles, and more restricted swing kinematics. These visuomotor patterns were not significantly affected by contextual cues, indicating that autistic people exhibit underlying differences in how prior information and environmental uncertainty are dynamically modulated during movement tasks.

Instructional Designers (IDs) are talented assets to higher education institutions (HEIs) that have positioned online course development as part of long-term strategic plans. This study investigated the experiences of IDs involved in online course development while working dyadically with faculty members in U.S. HEIs. The study focused on the textually mediated coordination of social working relationships and engagement outcomes on the professional identities of eight ID subjects; analysis of HEI websites and observational field notes were included in the dataset. Five thematic narratives emerged within the analysis: a question of professional (dis)regard, a culture of complex collaborative work, a conversation of representation in HEI governance, a translocal chain of bossy (mis)coordination, and a song of silent, external attributions. These themes provided a platform for disseminating ID lived narratives and perspectives within a relational framework informed by Human Resource Development (HRD), where, in the literature, their experiences can inform and benefit the improved performance of HEIs engaged in online program production and governance.

This article discusses the effect of using a commercial off-the-shelf immersive virtual reality game on engineering students' reaction time, hand-eye coordination, and spatial skills. Fifteen (15) college engineering students in Northern Taiwan were conveniently recruited in a single group. Participants were tasked to play the game for 30 min during the intervention in one day. After the intervention, they were interviewed to explore more about their experiences. The approach showed significant improvement in hand-eye coordination with a large effect size. However, reaction time and spatial skills showed some mean differences, but they were not significant. The findings suggest that the adversary effect of cybersickness can be categorized as none to slight. Qualitative interviews were also conducted to gain better insights and explain the quantitative results. Most participants felt that the activities were fun and engaging. Therefore, it is suggested that the benefits of immersive virtual reality exceed their adverse effects.

Perspective-taking, which is important for communication and social activities, can be cultivated through joint actions, including musical activities in children. We examined how rhythmic activities requiring coordination affect perspective-taking in a referential communication task with 100 Chinese 4- to 6-year-old children. In Study 1, 5- to 6-year-old children played an instrument with a virtual partner in one of three coordination conditions: synchrony, asynchrony, and antiphase synchrony. Eye movements were then monitored with the partner giving instructions to identify a shape referent which included a pre-nominal scalar adjective (e.g., big cubic block). When the target contrast (a small cubic block) was in the shared ground and a competitor contrast was occluded for the partner, participants who used perspective differences could, in principle, identify the intended referent before the shape was named. We hypothesized that asynchronous and antiphase synchronous musical activities, which require self-other distinction, might have stronger effects on perspective-taking than synchronous activity. Children in the asynchrony and antiphase synchrony conditions, but not the synchrony condition, showed anticipatory looks at the target, demonstrating real-time use of the partner's perspective. Study 2 was conducted to determine if asynchrony and antiphase asynchrony resulted in perspective-taking that otherwise would not have been observed, or if synchronous coordination inhibited perspective-taking that would otherwise have occurred. We found no evidence for online perspective-taking in 4- to 6-year-old children without music manipulation. Therefore, playing instruments asynchronously or in alternation, but not synchronously, increases perspective-taking in children of this age, likely by training self-other distinction and control. Along with its unprecedented economic rise over the past several decades, debates about China's soft power push have become heated. Yet, consensus on what exactly constitutes China's soft power has not been reached. Findings of how resources of Chinese soft power play their roles in the national strategy for global rise are conflicting and lacking empirical rigor. In a much-altered context of China's recent grand initiatives, the prism of higher education and the region of Southeast Asia both are uniquely significant for interpreting soft power agenda of China. This article aims to capture the recent changes in China's soft power through a case study analysing the experiences and perceptions of Cambodian participants from China's higher education programs covering language training, educational development aid, student mobility, and institution/program partnerships. The evidence identifies four emerging resources of Chinese soft power: contemporary life appeal, advancement in science and technology, STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) education reputation, and economic development model. It further highlights the Belt and Road Initiative as a stimulus for amplifying the influence of the Chinese development model in Southeast Asia, whereas China's domestic coordination of different players and an ideal mix of soft power resources still have not been formulated.
