The article focuses on the International Geophysical Year (IGY) program which aims to explore the continent of Antarctica. Considering the interests of ten nations in exploring the continent, amicable agreements concerning the optimum sites and operational cooperative problems of the continent were signed by these nations to keep the international aspects of the IGY program. Specifically, the U.S. has formed the Antarctic Committee that was supported by Task Force 43 of the U.S. Navy and have set up seven bases within the continent. Among the scope included in the Antarctica research program conducted by U.S. researchers were in the field of Geology, Glaciology, Meteorology, and Oceanography.
