Platelet-derived growth factor alpha (PDGFRA) plays a significant role in various malignant tumors. PDGFRA expression boosts thyroid cancer cell proliferation and metastasis. Radiorefractory thyroid cancer is poorly differentiated, very aggressive, and resistant to radioiodine therapy. Thus, novel anticancer drugs that inhibit its metastasis are urgently required. In this context, we proposed the PDGFRA inhibitors by an optimized structure-based drug design approach. We performed a virtual screening of metabolites derived from anticancer medicinal plants (Swertia chirayita, Myristica fragrans, and Datura metel) and successfully identified seven hits, namely cis-Grossamide K, Daturafoliside O, N-cis-feruloyltyramine, Maceneolignan H, Erythro-2-(4-allyl-2, 6-dimethoxyphenoxy)-1-(3, 4, 5-trimethoxyphenyl) propan-1, 3-diol, Myrifralignan C, and stigmasteryl-3-O-β-glucoside as potential PDGFRA inhibitors. Not only the top 7 hits exhibited higher docking scores in docking simulation but also optimal drug-likeness and non-toxic profiles in pharmacokinetics analysis among 119 compounds. Our top hits are non-mutagenic, can cross the blood-brain barrier, and inhibit p-glycoprotein, while the N-cis-feruloyltyramine has the potential to become a lead compound. The protein-ligand stability of the top 3 hits, namely cis-Grossamide K, Daturafoliside O, and N-cis-feruloyltyramine, and their interactions at the potential binding site of target protein were confirmed through molecular dynamic simulations. We also analyzed pharmacophoric features for stable binding in the PDGFRA active site. These drug candidates were further characterized to predict their biological activity spectra in the human body and medicinal characteristics to know their extensive behavior in laboratory testing. This study necessitates the in-vitro and in-vivo studies to confirm the potential of our hits for the discovery of novel therapeutics against the thyroid cancer. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Kleinia is a genus of over 50 species that are commonly used in primary care in several countries. This study seeks to inspire researchers to quickly discover and isolate the key active metabolites found in Kleinia taxa, thereby promoting the development of novel, safe, and effective therapies for a variety of illnesses. To this end, we performed a thorough search of English-language publications from PubMed, Scopus, ScienceDirect, Web of Science, Google Scholar, and ResearchGate. Our search utilized keywords such as "ethnobotany," "geographic distribution," "ethnomedicinal use," "phytochemistry," "pharmacological or bioactivities," and "toxicological activities" related to the genus Kleinia. Chemical structures were depicted using Chemdraw® software. Literature highlights numerous Kleinia taxa used in traditional medicine for conditions like intestinal parasites, measles, smallpox, diabetes, edema, nerve disorders, sexual dysfunction, gastrointestinal issues, cancer and more. Phytochemical analysis identifies 77 secondary metabolites, mainly alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, terpenes, and terpenoids and other miscellaneous metabolites. Among the Kleinia taxa, K. anteuphorbium , K. longiflora , K. grandiflora , K. odora , K. squarrosa , K. abyssinica , K. pendula , and K. azoides have been scientifically validated to exhibit various pharmacological activities. However, the existence of potentially harmful metabolites in Kleinia taxa, particularly pyrrolizidine alkaloids, emphasizes the significance of cautious application in traditional medicine and the need for rigorous toxicological assessments. In conclusion, this review highlights the promise of Kleinia taxa as significant medicinal resources and advocates for extensive bioprospecting. The search for neuroprotective compounds in lavender is driven by its traditional use for brain health, with antioxidant activity serving as a key mechanism in reducing oxidative stress and supporting cognitive function. Lavender's potential to protect neurons is based on its calming, anti-stress properties, which increase the brain's resistance to neurodegeneration. Although lavender is not a traditional medicinal plant in Ukraine, it is increasingly recognised for its medicinal properties and is widely cultivated in the country. Lavender use in Ukraine is influenced by both global herbal practices and local medical traditions. The aim of this study was to optimise the preparation of lavender herb extracts, perform chemical profiling and evaluate their antioxidant and neuroprotective activities. The study focused on Lavandula angustifolia cultivated in Lviv, Ukraine. Modern analytical methods were used, including HPLC, spectrophotometry, molecular docking, lyophilisation and pharmacological testing. The selection of the optimal conditions for obtaining lavender herb extracts was determined on the basis of the results of the total yield of phenolic compounds in each extract, where it was found that the raw material–solvent ratio (1:10) in water and 50% ethanol gave the highest yield of substances; the preferred extraction time was 20 min, and the temperature was 60–70 °C, especially for water extraction. Further HPLC analysis identified marker compounds including rosmarinic acid (28.31 mg/g), chlorogenic acid (1.64 mg/g) and luteolin (0.23 mg/g) in the lyophilised ethanol extract, which were previously recognised as neuroprotective markers by molecular docking. The water extract showed higher antioxidant (total 50.85 mg/g) and neuroprotective activity, probably due to synergistic interactions among the components. Behavioural tests further demonstrated the neuroprotective potential of lavender herb. These results demonstrate the potential neuroprotective activity of lavender herb and open new possibilities for its use in the treatment of various neurodegenerative diseases. Erigerontis Herba (EH), the dried whole plant of Erigeron breviscapus, is well-known for circulating blood, activating meridians to alleviate pain, expelling wind, and clearing away cold. It has been extensively utilized in southern China for the treatment of stroke hemiplegia, chest stuffiness and pains, rheumatic arthralgia, headache, and toothache. This review focuses on the botany, ethnopharmacology, phytochemistry, pharmacology and toxicity of EH and its related prescriptions to offer new insights for prospective research of EH. Relevant information about EH was retrieved from ancient records and books, PubMed, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Chinese Pharmacopoeia, Web of Science, Doctoral and Master's Theses, and various electronic databases. EH is a member of Compositae family and is mainly grown in southern China. Traditional Chinese medicine records that EH has the effects of circulating blood and removing blood stasis, expelling wind, and removing cold, as well as relieving rigidity of muscle and relieving pain. By now, nearly 200 ingredients have been characterized from EH, including flavonoids, caffeoyls, aromatic acids, coumarins, pentacyclic terpenoids, volatile oil and other compounds. EH extracts, EH related prescriptions (Dengzhan Xixin injection, Dengzhan Shengmai capsules, etc.) or compounds (scutellarin, scutellarein, etc.) possessed obvious therapeutic effects of ischemic stroke, cerebral hemorrhage, myocardial infarction, Alzheimer's disease, diabetes and its complications, gastric cancer, bone, and joint degenerative diseases. Scutellarin, the major active compound of EH, has been used as a quality marker. And no obvious toxicity of EH has been reported. According to its traditional applications, ethnopharmacology, phytochemistry, pharmacology, and toxicity, EH was applied as a valuable herb for clinical application in food and medicine fields. While several compounds have been shown to possess diverse biological activities, the underlying mechanisms of their actions remain elusive. This study investigates the medicinal potential of cultivated plants and weeds in Aymara communities around Lake Titicaca. It highlights the intricate connection between horticultural diversity and traditional healing practices. Through ethnobotanical research involving 228 informants across multiple locations in Bolivia, we documented 239 medicinal plant species, focusing on the diversity within cultivated landscapes. Among these, 56 species are cultivated crops, 17 are agricultural weeds, and 19 species have dual status, serving as both wild and cultivated plants depending on environmental conditions. Women are repositories of knowledge for 81% (193) of total medicinal plant species, while men know 47% (113) of species. Women display dominant knowledge of cultivated species (89%, or 50 species) and purchase medicinal plants from local markets; women know 92% (24 species) vs. men's 15% (4 species). Our results suggest men may use a smaller set of species more frequently, while women know and use a broader range of species. The analysis of plant life forms revealed the significant medicinal roles of perennials, annuals, subshrubs, and shrubs, which together account for over 67% of the documented species and 73% of the use reports. Arboreal species are present but have a comparatively smaller role in traditional medicine. In total, we recorded 1477 use reports addressing 260 pathologies across 28 major health categories. Notably, cultivated plants and weeds represent 38.8% of the medicinal species, highlighting their essential role in local healthcare practices. By assessing the contributions of native and introduced species, this study sheds light on the complex botanical resources integrated into Aymara agricultural systems. These findings deepen our understanding of medicinal plant diversity and underscore the importance of agrobiodiversity as a cornerstone of community health and cultural resilience in the Andean region. The dried leaves of Lannea velutina A.Rich. and Sorindeia juglandifolia Planch. ex Oliv. are commonly used in traditional medicine throughout West Africa to treat inflammatory diseases. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the anti-inflammatory activity of the standardized hydroethanolic (70%) extracts of these plants and to investigate the underlying mechanisms, with a focus on their antioxidant properties. The anti-inflammatory effects were evaluated using a rat model of induced paw edema, while the antioxidant activity was evaluated by DPPH• radical scavenging and iron-reducing antioxidant power assays. Chemical fingerprint was achieved by LC-UV/DAD-ESI/MS and the main classes of secondary metabolites were quantified by colorimetric analysis. The results showed that Sorindeia juglandifolia extract significantly inhibited the increase in paw edema volume, with the maximum effect observed at doses of 100 and 200 mg/kg (20.51 ± 1.07% and 35.50 ± 6.90%, respectively). For L. velutina, the strongest inhibition was observed at 200 and 400 mg/kg (47.48 ± 11.37% and 35.40 ± 1.70%, respectively). Both extracts also showed remarkable antioxidant activity. Phenol derivatives were identified as the main classes of secondary metabolites, with L. velutina containing 350.1 ± 20.6 mg GAE/g DE and S. juglandifolia containing 463.4 ± 29.4 mg GAE/g DE. Ten phenolic markers were identified in L. velutina and six in S. juglandifolia extracts. The main components of L. velutina include myricetin-3-O-glucuronide, quercetin-3-O-glucuronide, catechin, and gallic acid, while S. juglandifolia contains gallic acid, isoquercitrin, and ethyl gallate. These results confirm the anti-inflammatory potential of L. velutina and S. juglandifolia and highlight their prospects as candidates for the development of standardized anti-inflammatory herbal medicines based on their chemical and biological properties. Background: Sub-Saharan Africa faces one of the highest burdens of venereal diseases (VDs) globally. This review aims to critically evaluate the existing literature on the diverse Indigenous knowledge and medicinal plants utilised for treating VDs in sub-Saharan Africa. Methods: We used the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) protocol to guide the execution of the review. Relevant papers from scientific databases and search engines were assessed. The inclusion criteria included literature published from 2008 and May 16, 2024, and assessment of specific predetermined VDs. Medicinal plants based on certain ethnobotanical indices and data were recorded from each literature. Results: Among the 131 studies included in this review, a total of 20 relevant ethnobotanical reports were identified, with Nigeria and South Africa having the highest contributions (25% each). A high diversity and richness of 445 ethnobotanically valued anti-venereal plants (99 families) from over 872 Indigenous knowledge holders were inventoried. Plants with the highest diversity of use in traditional treatment of VDs are Cassia abbreviata, Ziziphus mucronata, Ximenia caffra, Catharanthus roseus, and Terminalia prunioides. The most represented families are Fabaceae (15.8%), Cucurbitaceae (5.9%), Solanaceae (5.9%), Euphorbiaceae (5%), and Combretaceae (5%). Roots and leaves were highly utilised with frequencies of 41.5% and 26.3%, respectively. The most used method of preparation are decoctions (36.7%) and infusions (12.2%), whereas oral route (72.9%) dominated the mode of administration of the medicinal plants. Conclusions: This review consolidated data from sub-Saharan Africa—notwithstanding a limited number of studies in quantitative synthesis—and identified a diverse array of ethnobotanically valued anti-venereal plants, enabling meaningful conclusions to be drawn for future ethnopharmacological assessments. AbstractTraditional medicine is indispensable to the Nigerian health care system. However, poor documentation is reportedly causing the loss of traditional medicinal knowledge of plants. Hence, adequate systematic documentation of indigenous knowledge of plants is encouraged. This study documented the medicinal uses of plants in Ede, Osun State, Nigeria. Reconnaissance surveys were conducted, after which ethnobotanical data were gathered by conducting semi-structured interviews with respondents. Plants used for various ailments, the plant parts used, and the preparation methods were recorded. Ethnobotanical indices were used to analyze the data collected. Ninety plant species from 42 families were recorded for different diseases. Fabaceae and Malvaceae were the most implicated families (7 species each). Most plants were herbs (41%), and leaves (45%) were the most used plant part. Respondents preferred preparation by decoction (42%). Urinary and reproductive diseases are treated with the highest number of plants. Based on the cultural importance index (CII), Ageratum conyzoides and Aframomum melegueta are the most important medicinal plants in the study area. Introduction: Liver diseases represent a significant global health challenge, with primary causes including excessive alcohol consumption, infections, chemotherapy, and autoimmune disorders. Medicinal plants, due to their natural bioactive compounds, hold promise for developing effective treatments and preventive measures against liver ailments. This study aimed to document the use of herbal remedies in northeastern Morocco for liver diseases and correlate these uses with scientific evidence through a bibliometric analysis. Methods: An ethnobotanical survey was conducted in remote communities of northeastern Morocco from October 2020 to January 2022. A total of 189 informants were interviewed using semi-structured questionnaires to gather information on local medicinal plants used for liver ailments. The data were analyzed using four ethnobotanical quantitative indices: use value (UV), familial use value (FUV), informant consensus factor (ICF), and fidelity level (FL). Additionally, a bibliometric analysis was performed to evaluate the scientific support for the ethnopharmacological uses documented. Results: The survey identified 45 plant species from 26 different families used in the treatment of liver diseases. The most frequently utilized species were Cuminum cyminum L. (UV = 0.1065), Allium sativum L. (UV = 0.1015), Salvia officinalis L. (UV = 0.0761), Asparagus officinalis L. (UV = 0.0558), and Ziziphus lotus (L.) Lam. (UV = 0.0457). The Apiaceae family showed the highest familial use value (FUV = 0.1066), followed by Alliaceae (FUV = 0.1015). Liver congestion had the highest informant consensus factor (ICF = 0.83), followed by hepatic colic (ICF = 0.80). Bibliometric analysis revealed that 61% of the plants identified had documented pharmacological effects related to liver health. Discussion: The study demonstrates that traditional knowledge in northeastern Morocco encompasses a rich diversity of medicinal plants used to treat liver diseases. The high ICF values indicate a strong consensus among informants on the efficacy of these remedies. The correlation between ethnopharmacological use and scientific validation for a significant portion of these plants suggests their potential as reliable therapeutic agents for liver conditions. However, further scientific investigations are necessary to confirm their efficacy and safety in clinical settings. This research contributes valuable information for future studies on the therapeutic potential of these plants. Conclusion: This ethnobotanical survey provides a comprehensive database of medicinal plants used in northeastern Morocco for liver diseases. The considerable changes in lifestyle patterns primarily affect the human gut microbiota and result in obesity, diabetes, dyslipidemia, renal complications, etc. though there are few traditional safeguards such as herbal brews to maintain the ecological stability under intestinal dysbiosis. The present article is designed to collect all the scientific facts in a place to decipher the role of the Indian traditional herbal brews used to balance gut health for centuries. Computerized databases, commercial search engines, research papers, articles, and books were used to search by using different keywords to select the most appropriate published articles from 2000 onward to September 2023. A total of 1907 articles were scrutinized, 46 articles were finally selected from the 254 screened, and targeted information was compiled. Interaction of herbal brews to the gut microflora and resulting metabolites act as prebiotics due to antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties, and modulate the pH of the gut. The effect of brews on gut microbiota has a drastic impact on various gut-related diseases and has gained popularity as an alternative to antibiotics against bacteria, fungi, viruses, parasites, and boosting the immune system and strengthening the intestinal barrier. Berberine, kaempferol, piperine, and quercetin have been found in more than one brew discussed in the present article. Practically, these brews balance the gut microbiota, prevent chronic and degenerative diseases, and reduce organ inflammation, though, there is a knowledge gap on the molecular mechanism to explain their efficacy. Indian traditional herbal brews used to reboot and heal the gut microbiota since centuries-old practice with successful history without toxicity. The systematic consumption of these brews under specific dietary prescriptions has a hope of arrays for a healthy human gut microbiome in the present hasty lifestyle with overall health and well-being. The study aimed to document the usage of exotic plant species in Bargarh district, Western Odisha, India. It was based on both bibliographic sources and the survey to the documentation of exotic plants in Bargarh district, western Odisha, India. Periodic field surveys were carried out as interviews with 46 well-known inhabitants, the local villagers and practitioners involved in herbal medicines from Binjhal tribes. Seventy four species belonging to 65 genera and 33 families are reported. Asteraceae family contributed the highest number of species (11), six species were from both Amaranthaceae and Fabaceae, five from Poaceae; four species of Euphobiaceae; three species each from four families viz. Convolvulaceae, Malvaceae, Onagraceae, and Verbenaceae; two species each from six families i.e. Arecaceae, Asclepiadaceae, Capparaceae, Lamiaceae, Portulacaceae, Solanaceae; one species each from rest 18 families. Out of 74 species, a total of 41 species are native to Tropical America; five species are native to Mexico; each of three species to America; each of two species to Africa, Brazil, Europe, the Mediterranean, and South America; each of one species to Australia, Central America, China, Madagascar, Malaysia, North America, Pantropic, Peru, South America (1824), South America (17th cent.), Tropical West Asia, Tropical Africa, Tropical America (Bf1824), Tropical South America, and West Indies. The uses of exotic plants for various purposes indicated by the native peoples are discussed here. The present study gives complete and efficient documentation of exotic plants in the Bargarh district of Western Odisha that will provide a tool for maintaining the local biodiversity. Some plant species, such as Alternanthera sessilis, Borassus flabellifer, Cassia tora, Cleome gynandra, Datura metel, Gomphressa globosa, Sida acuta, Zinnia elegans, etc. may have potential as medicinal plants. In Qatar, three main species of Pulicaria (from Asteraceae) such as Pulicaria undulata (L.) C.A.Mey, Pulicaria gnaphalodes (Vent.) Boiss. and Pulicaria sicula (L.) Moris are reported. Traditionally, these species have almost the same ethnomedical uses, including their use as herbal tea. This could be because of morphological similarities among some of these species, which also results in taxonomic ambiguity. Altogether, this indicates that these species need to be reviewed comparatively, to understand the phytochemical uniqueness and therapeutic significance of each species individually, including species differentiation at the subspecies level. Hence, this review aims to comparatively review the available literature about traditional uses, phytochemistry, and bio-activities of these species. Being aromatic plants, the chemical composition of essential oils of these species has been extensively studied and reported over 300 volatile organic compounds. Among these, oxygenated monoterpenes and sesquiterpenes are dominant. The diverse and distinguishable composition of essential oils can differentiate P. undulata and Pulicaria crispa (Forssk.) Oliv. (Synonyme: Pulicaria undulata subsp. undulata). Likewise, flavonoids and sesquiterpenes are the most reported classes of compounds in non-essential oil fractions. Various biological and pharmacological activities are reported to the essential oils, crude extracts, and their fractions, or isolated compounds of these species. Among these, antimicrobial, anticancer, and anti-oxidant activities were mostly investigated, mainly under in vitro conditions. Several distinguishable compounds are listed for each species that can potentially be used as chemical markers while characterizing these species. Most of the traditional claims of these species are validated in recent scientific studies. The rich and diverse flora of Armenia has been used for medicinal purposes for at least 3000 years. The relevant literature in Armenian, English, and Russian revealed a vast array of used medicinal plants, some of them unique to the Caucasus region. The usage of medicinal plants confirms the position of Armenia as a country at the crossroads of Asia and Europe because of its traditional usage of medicinal plants from both continents. Literature data in Armenian, English, and Russian on medicinal plants of Armenia were mainly obtained using various electronic databases. From all available sources, 320 Armenian medicinal plant species were extracted with their botanical and local names and traditional uses. The use of medicinal plants by the Armenian people is systematically compiled, including the used plant organs and preparations and the ailments for which the various taxa are/were used. Medicinal plants of Armenia are represented for both wild and cultivated species. Some of the taxa used are unique to Armenia or the Caucasus region, while many other species are also used in various other countries. Infectious diseases are caused by pathogenic microorganisms, mainly bacteria, viruses, parasites and fungi, and represent a threat to public health. In the state of Paraíba, Brazil, several plant species are widely used in traditional medicine to treat infections caused by pathogenic microorganisms. From this perspective, the present study aimed to carry out a bibliographic survey of plants used in the treatment of infectious diseases by local communities and to identify the species that have already been investigated in clinical trials. The scientific documents were retrieved from different databases. A total of 31 species distributed in 22 families are used against infections by traditional communities in different municipalities in Paraíba. However, only 8 species have had their herbal products evaluated in clinical trials. Mouthwashes containing Aloe vera, Anacardium occidentale and Punica granatum have been targeted for dental applications. Considering the urgency in developing broad-spectrum antimicrobials, it is recommended that new randomized clinical trials be developed to investigate the traditional uses of other medicinal plants against infectious diseases reported in this study.

Abstract Coccidiosis poses a significant threat to the poultry industry, with synthetic antibiotics and disinfectants being the primary tools for control. This study investigated the potential of Piper betle L essential oil (PBEO) as a natural alternative against Eimeria tenella, one of the most pathogenic Eimeria species affecting poultry. Our findings revealed that PBEO exhibits significant anticoccidial effects through two primary mechanisms: (i) oocysticidal activity by disintegrating oocyst walls and (ii) inhibition of the sporulation process. PBEO demonstrated oocysticidal activities ranging from 8.67 to 95.33% across concentrations from 0.04 to 40%. Notably, at 72 h post-incubation, a 0.04% PBEO concentration significantly reduced the number of sporulated oocysts (P ≤ 0.05) to 71.67%, showing effects comparable to those of formalin. PBEO reduced 50% of oocyst sporulation (IC50) in the concentration of 1.31% at 72 h. Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) identified the primary constituents of PBEO, including eugenol, beta-caryophyllene, and other key compounds, collectively constituting 96% of the oil. This research underscores the potential of PBEO as a natural anticoccidial agent and lays the groundwork for further studies aimed at identifying, isolating, and developing active compounds that may specifically target the sporogony process in coccidian parasites.

Varronia curassavica Jacq. is an aromatic species appertaining to the Boraginaceae family and has been mentioned for its numerous traditional uses and pharmacological properties, especially its antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory effects. The aim of the present study was to investigate the phytochemical profile and antifungal activities of the essential oils of V. curassavica, in addition to analyzing the ADMET properties of the majority components. The GC-MS analysis of V. curassavica essential oil (EOVC) comprised 97.36% of total composition, with α-pinene, β-caryophyllene, and bicyclogermacrene (44.46%, 22.87%, and 13.05%, respectively) as the main constituents among other minor/trace constituents. The antifungal activity of EOVC was evaluated against three Candida species and was observed with IC50 > 200 μg/mL. Remarkably, the combination of EOVC with fluconazole significantly reduced the IC50 required for the drug to inhibit C. tropicalis (0.003 μg/mL), C. albicans (0.7996 μg/mL), and C. krusei (17.73 μg/mL). In addition, ADME/Tox studies using α-pinene revealed that the compound poses no toxicity threats but requires caution due to its high permeability to the blood–brain barrier (BBB). Overall, the obtained results suggest that Varronia curassavica essential oil is a potentially good antifungal agent for combating fungal resistance.

This study is aimed at documenting the indigenous knowledge and quantitative analysis of medicinal plants (MPs) used by traditional health practitioners (THPs) of Urambo District in mid‐western Tanzania to manage respiratory tract disorders (RTDs). The ethnomedicinal data were collected using semistructured interviews with 55 THPs using a snowballing technique in the district. The data were analysed for indigenous knowledge among gender, age groups, education status, and experience. Family importance value (FIV), use value (UV), relative frequency of citation (RFC), informant consensus factor (ICF), and Jaccard index (JI) were computed. A total of 42 MPs representing 28 families were recorded being used against RTDs in the district. Fabaceae was the dominant family in terms of species (16.7%) and FIV (84%). Decoction (51.0%) was the preferred technique for preparing remedies, while trees (61.9%) and leaves (38.1%) were the most utilised life form and plant parts, respectively. The RFC in the current study varied from 0.055 (Musa paradisiaca L.) to 0.655 (Zingiber officinale Roscoe) and 0.073 (Dichrostachys cinerea (L.) Wight & Arn.) to 0.673 (Entada abyssinica Steud. ex A.Rich.), respectively. The highest ICF was recorded for cough (0.922). The JI ranged from 2.7 to 7.9. Among the documented MPs, 55% had least concern, 2% were endangered, 7% had data deficiency conservation status, and 36% had no record in the IUCN Red List. The study revealed that the district's population depends on MPs for healthcare. Thus, conservation strategies are needed for the sustainable utilisation of the MPs. Importantly, the documented MPs hold immense potential in future pharmacological and phytochemical studies, offering hope for the development of new drugs for RTDs. The botanical drugs of genus Duhaldea DC. have been traditionally utilized in folk medicine for the treatment of a wide array of illnesses, encompassing fractures, bone wounds, carbuncles and poisoning, bronchitis, bruises, giddy with hypertension of qi, and lung deficiency cough. The genus Duhaldea DC. comprises 15 species widespread in Central, East, and Southeast Asia and 7 species (2 endemic) in China. The review aims to provide a systematic overview of ethnopharmacology, phytochemistry, and pharmacology of Duhaldea DC. and to explore the future therapeutic potential and scientific potential of this genus. The data were systematically collected from books and scientific databases such as PubMed, Web of Science, Google Scholar, CNKI, and doctoral and master's theses. To date, a total of 352 metabolites have been isolated from this genus, and terpenoids, flavonoids, phenylpropanoids, and inositol angelates are the primary contributors to the pharmacological activities of Duhaldea DC. The crude extracts and isolated phytochemical metabolites from this genus have been shown to exhibit various pharmacological activities, including anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, anti-osteoporotic, anticancer, and antioxidant activities. Despite notable advancements in our understanding of the chemical constituents and pharmacological properties of Duhaldea DC., it is absolutely crucial to conduct additional research into the pharmacology and toxicology of these species to definitively ascertain their safety, efficacy, and quality. Plants have been used as healing agents since humanity began. This review presents the plant profiles inhabiting the world regarding their traditional usage by various tribes/ethnic groups for the treatment of epilepsy. The bibliographic investigation was carried out by analyzing standard reference textbooks, Science Direct, Google Scholar, Scopus, Medline, Web of Science, and PubMed databases. Search terms and keywords used for the search were epilepsy, medicinal plants for epilepsy, herbal remedies used in the treatment of epilepsy, and traditional antiepilepsy medication. This review article was prepared by including the biological names of plants/their parts/extracts/compounds/doses/models/results. Further, experimentally explored 15 potential medicinal plants have also been explored in detail. The present review was prepared by including 114 plants from 3 books, 83 research, and 59 review articles. This study aimed to scientifically validate the traditional use of Garrya laurifolia (Gl) leaves as an antidiabetic agent attributed to a community in Mexico. The descriptive ethnobotanical study was conducted in San Miguel Tecpan, a municipality of Jilotzingo, State of Mexico, Mexico, where a structured questionnaire was applied to 44 inhabitants. In vivo studies evaluated the acute oral toxicity of Gl leaves in murine and the effects of a leaf infusion on glycemia in normoglycemic and diabetic rats; in addition, the interaction between Gl and metformin (Met) was also evaluated. The in vitro antioxidant activity of Gl was determined. The phytochemical screening and quantification of phenolic and flavonoid content of Gl leaves were performed. Gl had a high relative frequency of citation (0.68) among respondents. Gl had a low acute toxicity risk with LD50 > 5000 mg/kg. The extract had no hypoglycemic effect in normoglycemic rats, but it did have hypoglycemic and antihyperglycemic effects (250 and 500 mg/kg) in diabetic rats. The interaction between Gl (500 mg/kg) + Met (300 mg/kg) resulted in antidiabetic synergism. Gl showed strong antioxidant activity (93.1 ± 0.4%). Phytochemical screening revealed the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, and some other phenolic compounds. The total phenol content was 77.9 ± 0.6 mg EQ/g and 87.7 ± 0.7 mg EAG/g, and the flavonoids content was 5.32 ± 0.2 mg EQ/g. UHPLC-MS/MS analysis identified chlorogenic acid, rutin, aucubin, luteolin 7-O-neohesperoside, and myricitrin. The findings support the potential use of Gl as a safe and effective antidiabetic agent. Sansevieria trifasciata Prain.) or mother-in-law's tongue, is a species belonging to the genus Dracaena, widely cultivated and used by various communities. This plant is recognized as an ornamental, pollutant-absorbing, and textile material. Its leaves and roots have also been used as traditional remedies across Asia and Africa for cough, flu, respiratory tract inflammation, diarrhea, wound healing, and snakebites. Bioactive compounds found in the roots and leaves include alkaloids, tannins, terpenoids, saponins, steroids, phenols, methyl glucuronate acid, glycosides, cardenolides, polyphenols, carbohydrates, and abamagenin. Therefore, this review aims to provide insights into the phytochemical constituents and pharmacological potential of D. trifasciata. It also explores its use in traditional medicine and prospects for further advancement to promote the broader application. Comprehensive literature studies showed that the attributes of D. trifasciata can be applied as an antibacterial, antioxidant, and anticancer agent, having a promising source of natural compounds for novel drug development. Further investigations are needed to assess the long-term and short-term toxicity associated with the use of this plant material, thereby making it a potential source for the development of modern drugs from natural sources. Fibromyalgia (FM) is a painful chronic condition that significantly impacts the quality of life, posing challenges for clinical management. Given the difficulty of understanding the pathophysiology and finding new therapeutics, this study explored the effects of a medicinal plant, E. brasiliensis, in an FM model induced by reserpine in Swiss mice. Animals were treated with saline 0.9% (vehicle), duloxetine 10 mg/kg (positive control), or hydroalcoholic extract of E. brasiliensis leaves 300 mg/kg (HEEb). Nociceptive parameters, as well as locomotion, motor coordination, strength, anxiety, and depressive-like behaviors, were evaluated for 10 days. After that, the brain and blood were collected for further analysis of cytokines (interleukin 1? and interleukin 6), brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), and the immunocontents of total and phosphorylated Tropomyosin receptor kinase B (TrkB). The results demonstrated that the acute and prolonged treatment with HEEb was able to reduce both mechanical and thermal nociception. It was also possible to observe an increase in the strength, without changing locomotion and motor coordination parameters. Interestingly, treatment with HEEb reduces anxious and depressive-like behaviors. Finally, we observed a reduction in inflammatory cytokines in the hippocampus of animals treated with HEEb, while an increase in BDNF was observed in the prefrontal cortex (PFC). However, no alterations related to total and phosphorylated TrkB receptor expression were found. Our study demonstrated the antinociceptive and emotional effects of HEEb in mice, possibly acting on neuroinflammatory and neurotrophic mechanisms.
