Here a continuous measurement concept for detecting the type and amount of individual microplastics in water was investigated. The optical NIR spectroscopy was applied. Data analysis of the NIR spectra was performed using the Support Vector Machine (SVM) method. The device concept was able to distinguish between microplastic sample materials passing through the cuvette tube with water. The tested plastics were PE, PVC, PA, PC, PP and PU. The intended use of the device concept was to monitor treated effluent before it is discharged back into the water body. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
