Background: To predict the long-term performance of restorative materials in the oral environment, it is important to evaluate their resistance to chemical and mechanical degradation and to know the toxic potential of the type and amount of ions eluted from the filling material. In this study, home bleaching was applied to dental materials with different contents and it was aimed to determine the type and amount of ions released from these materials. Methods: In this study, amalgam, posterior composite resin, anterior composite resin, bulk fill composite resin, indirect composite resin, hybrid ceramic and all-ceramic were used as restorative materials. 10 specimens of each material were prepared according to the manufacturer's instructions. Each material group was divided into two subgroups as the bleached group and the control group. After bleaching, all specimens were stored in 1 ml of 75% ethanol/water solution. Solutions were renewed after 1, 14 and 28 days. The type and amount of ions released from the materials were determined using Inductively Coupled Plasma-Mass Spectrometer (ICP-MS). Data were analyzed using the Friedman, Wilcoxon Signed Ranks, and Mann-Whitney U tests (α = 0.05). Results: It was determined that the amount of ions release from the restorative materials decreased over time (p < 0.05). According to the results of the Mann-Whitney U test, there was no difference between the bleaching and control groups in most of the restorative materials (p > 0.05). Objective Clinical Considerations Conclusions Clinical Significance This article aims to demonstrate the clinical application of a comprehensive workflow that integrates digital tools for accurate color matching, and its immediate implementation in the restoration of anterior teeth.Two patients demonstrating dissatisfaction regarding a maxillary central incisor had an old restoration replaced resorting to a digital workflow to enhance the predictability of the new direct restoration. OptiShade allowed the precise assessment of tooth color and the CompoShade application provided precise color and material selection, as well as the determination of a layering strategy. Precision and accuracy of the colorimeter and the composite layering application were demonstrated clinically in vivo.Implementing a digital workflow with the integration of OptiShade measurements and the CompoShade layering recipe calculation, as well as the respective realistic try‐in, enables the achievement of precise color matching for anterior composite restorations.The employment of a digital colorimeter and layering recipes simplify shade matching, and optimizes composite resin clinical use and success. This study examined the effect of high irradiance and short exposure times on the depth of cure of six resin‐based composites (RBCs). Bluephase PowerCure and the Valo X light‐curing units (LCUs) were used to photocure bulk‐fill RBCs for their recommended exposure times: Admira Fusion x‐tra (AFX/20s), Aura Bulk Fill (ABF/20s), Filtek One Bulk Fill (FOB/20s), Opus Bulk Fill APS (OBF/30s), Tetric EvoCeram Bulk Fill (TEC/10s) and Tetric PowerFill (TPF/10s). In addition, all bulk‐fill RBCs were tested for depth of cure with one short 3 s exposure time from the Bluephase PowerCure or the Valo X in the Xtra Power mode. The RBCs (n = 10 per RBC) were inserted into a 4 mm diameter metal mold and covered by a polyester strip before being photocured. After 24 h of storage, uncured RBC was scraped away to determine the depth of cure of the RBCs. None of the RBCs achieved a 4 mm depth of cure. The depth of cure of TEC and TPF was unaffected by the exposure times (recommended or short) when using the Valo X. The depth of cure of AFX/20s, AFX/Xtra Power, ABF/Xtra Power, FOB/Xtra Power, and OBF/30s RBCs was greater when using Valo X compared to the Bluephase PowerCure. Objectives: This study evaluated the clinical performance of bulk‐fill resin composite systems with different viscosities in class II cavities. Materials and Methods: A total of 80 class II restorations were performed with a single operator in 50 patients using four different bulk‐fill resin composite materials: Filtek™ Bulk Fill, Heated Filtek™ Bulk Fill, G‐ænial™ BULK Injectable, and SonicFill3. A double‐blinded randomized clinical trial was designed to evaluate the two‐year clinical performance of the four bulk‐fill composite resins using modified FDI criteria. Data were analyzed descriptively. Level of significance was set at 0.05. Differences between groups were tested using Wilcoxon‐signed‐rank and Mann–Whitney‐U test as nonparametric tests. Results: Data were analyzed using Kruskal‐Wallis, Mann–Whitney U, and Wilcoxon signed rank tests (p < 0.05). Eighty restorations were available for evaluation, with a survival function of 100%. No statistically significant differences were observed between the four groups regarding assessing esthetic, functional, and biological properties during different follow‐up periods. Conclusions: After 2 years of clinical follow‐up, the bulk‐fill composite systems with different viscosities seem to be esthetically, functionally, and biologically acceptable, with a promising clinical performance in class II cavities. This study aims to evaluate the repair micro-shear bond strength of the CAD/CAM resin nanoceramic block treated using four different surface treatments and composite resins of different viscosities. For the current study, 96 samples with dimensions of 14 × 12 × 2 mm were obtained from a CAD/CAM resin nanoceramic block (Cerasmart) with a low-speed precision cutting saw under water cooling. The relevant samples were randomly divided into four groups according to the surface treatment processes: grinding with diamond bur, aluminum oxide airborne-particle abrasion, long-pulse laser, and short-pulse laser. Following silane application, universal adhesive was applied to all surface-treated samples and cured with an LED for 10 s. The samples prepared for the repair procedure were divided into two subgroups (microhybrid composite and injectable composite) according to the viscosity of the repair material to be used (n = 12). After the repair procedure, care was taken to keep the samples in distilled water in an incubator at 37 °C for 24 h. The repair micro-shear bond strength values (μSBSs) of CAD/CAM resin nanoceramic-composite resin complexes were tested. In addition, randomly selected samples from each group were examined with a scanning electron microscope to evaluate the surface topography after both surface treatments and the micro-shear bond strength test. Data were analyzed by two-way ANOVA and Bonferroni test. It was determined that the surface treatment preferred in the repair protocol significantly affected the μSBS value (p < 0.001). While the highest μSBS value was obtained with the short-pulse laser airradiation group, the lowest μSBS values were found in samples with long pulse laser irradiation. However, samples grinded with a bur and airborne-particle abrasion showed similar μSBS values (p > 0.05). The preferred composite viscosity in the repair procedure has a significant effect on the μSBS value (p < 0.001). However, the interaction between the surface treatment and the viscosity of the repair composite does not affect the μSBS values in a statistically significant way (p = 0.193). Purpose: To evaluate whether reduced curing performance due to compromised light tip placement can be mitigated by bulk-fill composite and/or high-intensity curing light. Methods: Plastic discs with 2.5-mm deep cavities were filled with a conventional (Mosaic™) or bulk-fill (Tetric® PowerFill) composite and cured with a BluePhase® PowerCure curing light at normal and high-power settings, with light tip placement at distance and/or 45 degree angle. Curing time and irradiance were three, five, or 10 seconds at 1,200, 2,000, or 3,000 mW/cm² (10 samples). After 24 hours, Vickers hardness on top and bottom surfaces was measured and analyzed using analysis of variance and pairwise comparisons (α<0.05). Results: All top surfaces had higher hardness than bottom surfaces. Cure (bottom-to-top hardness ratio) was significantly affected by material, distance/angle, and curing regimen (P<0.001), and generally decreased when tip distance and angle increased. Bottom-to-top hardness ratios of bulk-fill composite (0.42 to 0.66) were significantly higher than those of conventional composite (0.20 to 0.31). High-power curing significantly increased bulk-fill's curing performance as it was specifically formulated for this curing light. Conclusions: Increased light tip distance and angle compromised composite curing. Bulk-fill composite cured better at the bottom of the restoration than conventional composite regardless of light tip distance/angle. High-power light curing improved curing performance only in bulk-fill composite. Nevertheless, due to low bottom-to-top ratios (0.20 to 0.66) across all samples, even under ideal light tip placement, both composites should be cured in increments of less than 2.5 mm. Objectives: This laboratory study evaluated the influence of the fluorescence intensity of composite resins on additional tooth wear and the presence of restorative material in different dental thirds during the retreatment of direct veneers. Materials and Methods: The crown dimensions of 60 bovine incisors were reduced to 10 × 8 mm. The teeth were classified according to the fluorescence intensity of the composites: low (LOW) (TPH Spectra), medium (MED) (Opallis), and high (HIGH) (Essentia) groups. The teeth were divided according to the removal methods: conventional (CON) and fluorescence‐aided identification technique (FIT). The specimens were scanned (T0), received veneer preparation, and scanned again (T1). After restorations, the composites were removed and the teeth were scanned (T2). Measurement assessments between T1 and T2 were performed to determine additional wear, presence of residual areas, and the average between additional wear and the presence of residual areas. Kruskal Wallis, Mann–Whitney, Friedman, 2‐way ANOVA, and post‐Tukey tests were performed (α < 0.05). Results: The comparison of composite resins indicated a smaller area of additional wear and greater residue presence in the HIGH group than the LOW group for both techniques in the cervical third. Regarding removal methods, the FIT produced greater additional wear than the CON method for the LOW and MED groups in the middle and cervical thirds. The incisal third exhibited greater additional wear than the other thirds. Conclusions: Composite resins with high fluorescence intensity removed using FIT had less tooth wear. The incisal third was the most affected area for direct veneer removal procedures. Clinical Significance: A FIT has been proposed for composite resin removal; however, the different fluorescence intensities of composite resins can influence tooth wear caused during this procedure. Patients are always looking for conservative, esthetic, and long-lasting dental restorations, and the technique used directly influences the longevity of the treatment. The location of the restoration in the mouth and the extent of the decay influence the treatment choice. The larger the dimensions of the cavity preparation, the greater the difficulties in restoring the tooth using direct techniques. The semidirect technique, when indicated, can achieve satisfactory results. It is a relatively easy procedure, consisting of tooth preparation to receive an indirect restoration, fabrication of an alginate impression, fabrication of the composite resin restoration on a flexible cast, cementation, removal of excess cement, and occlusal adjustment. The aim of this case report is to present a viable alternative to direct and indirect restorations for posterior teeth with extensive decay. The article describes the extraoral semidirect technique for fabricating a composite resin restoration, highlighting its indications and discussing advantages and disadvantages. This study analyzed and compared the physicochemical and mechanical properties of preheated resin composite with light-cured resin cement for luting indirect restorations. 210 specimens of resin cement/resin composite were prepared according to preheating treatment heated (Htd) or not (NHtd). Light-cured resin cement (Variolink Veneer, Ivoclar), and resin composite (Microhybrid—Z100, 3 M; Nanohybrid—Empress direct, Ivoclar; and Bulk fill–Filtek One, 3 M) were used (n = 10). Resin cement specimens were not preheated. The response variables were (n = 10): film thickness, microhardness, liquid sorption and solubility. Data were analyzed by 2-way ANOVA and Tukey HSD post-test (α = 0.05). Bulk fill NHtd resin had the highest film thickness values (p < 0.001). Microhybrid and nanohybrid Htd resins had the smallest thicknesses and did not differ from the cement (p > 0.05). The highest microhardness values were found for Bulk fill NHtd and Bulk fill Htd resins. The nanohybrid and microhybrid Htd resins showed the lowest microhardness values, with no difference in cement (p > 0.05). For liquid sorption, there was no significant difference between the groups (p = 0.1941). The microhybrid Htd resin showed higher solubility values than the other materials (p = 0.0023), but it did not differ statistically from resin cement (p > 0.05). Aim: This study investigates the interaction of zirconia and polyetheretherketone (PEEK) with indirect composite in fixed dental prostheses. This investigation aimed to assess the shear bond strength (SBS) and color stability of zirconia and PEEK before and after aging, addressing critical concerns in dental restorative applications. Settings and Design: The current in vitro study used 96 samples, 48 of which were divided into two groups, zirconia and PEEK, before and after thermocycling. A dual-axis chewing simulator was used for thermocycling. SBS was measured using a universal testing machine, and color stability was checked using a reflective spectrophotometer. Materials and Methods: Ninety-six samples were categorized into zirconia and PEEK groups, each with subgroups undergoing thermocycling. Samples were prepared using computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing milling and veneered with composite resin. Thermocycling involved 10,000 cycles, simulating stress levels equivalent to approximately 1 year of clinical use. SBS was assessed using standardized tests. Stereomicroscopic analysis was performed to evaluate the type of failure. Color stability of the core materials with indirect composite was done using a spectrophotometer before and after aging. Statistical Analysis Used: Statistical analysis included paired t-tests and independent t-tests in SPSS software. Results: The results revealed that SBS values for composite on PEEK decreased from 13.86 ± 0.164 MPa before thermocycling to 13.46 ± 0.185 MPa after thermocycling, with a significant difference (P < 0.005). However, both pre- and postthermocycling values for PEEK were higher than zirconia. The t-test confirmed the lower bond strength of composite to zirconia, with a noteworthy improvement after aging. Stereomicroscopic images revealed adhesive failure for the zirconia group and mixed (adhesive and cohesive) failure for the PEEK group. ΔE values were 3.21 ± 0.127 and 2.93 ± 0.142 for zirconia and PEEK groups, respectively (P < 0.005). Conclusion: Within the limitations of this study, it can be deduced that PEEK is a feasible substitute for zirconia when used in conjunction with indirect composite for the fabrication of dental prostheses. Context: Effective use of nonthermal atmospheric plasma (NTAP) to strengthen adhesive-dentin interfacial bonding while disinfecting with chlorhexidine (CHX). Aim: NTAP application at different time intervals on the dentinal shear bond strength (SBS) after pretreatment with 2% CHX as a cavity disinfectant. Settings and Design: The design of the study was an in vitro study. Materials and Methods: Forty permanent mandibular teeth were collected (n = 40) and the occlusal surfaces were flattened. For, all the specimens 37% phosphoric acid etching was done followed by pretreatment with 2% CHX as cavity disinfectant for 5 s. According to the surface treatment, divided into four groups of n = 10. Group I (Control): No NTAP pretreatment was done. Group II: NTAP pretreatment done for 15 s. Group III: NTAP pretreatment done for 30 s. Group IV: NTAP pretreatment done for 45 s. Later, all the specimens were treated with a bonding agent, incremental build-up of composite resin on the dentin surface was done and evaluation of SBS was done. Analyzed using One-way analysis of variance with a post hoc Tukey's test (P < 0.05). Results: Two percent CHX pretreatment as cavity disinfectant followed by NTAP application for 30 s (Group III) exhibited greater values compared to the control group (Group I). Conclusion: Two percent CHX pretreatment as cavity disinfectant followed by NTAP pretreatment for 30 s was found to exhibit better bond strength values compared to 15 s as well as 45 s. Objective: The objective of the study was to assess the shear bond strength of bulk-fill flowable composite resin smart dentin replacement plus when bonded to mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA)-angelus, biodentine, and calcium-enriched mixture (CEM) at two different aging periods (15 min and 72 h) using three distinct adhesive systems. In addition, the study identified the specific modes of failure (adhesive, cohesive, or mixed) using a stereomicroscope and scanning electron microscope. Materials and Methods: One hundred and twenty-six cylindrical acrylic blocks used in the study were sorted into three groups based on the bioactive substance used to fill the 3-mm diameter and 3-mm high hole in the center of each block. The groups were MTA, Biodentine, and CEM. The specimens were then divided into subgroups based on the aging interval (15 min and 72 h) of the bioactive material and the adhesive system used (two-step total-etch, two-step self-etch [SE], and one-step SE) while bonding to the restorative bulk-fill flowable composite. The shear bond strength values were measured with a universal testing machine, and the data were analyzed using two-way and one-way analysis of variance, followed by a post hoc test. The specimens were assessed under stereomicroscope and scanning electron microscope to characterize the mode of bond failure (cohesive, adhesive, or mixed). Results: The study showed that the type of adhesive system and the time of bonding affected the shear bond strength of bulk-fill composite to the pulp capping agents (P < 0.05). For MTA, the highest bond strength was observed with two-step SE group at 15 min (18.16 ± 2.97 MPa) (P < 0.05). CEM exhibited the highest bond strength with two-step SE group at 72 h intervals (8.77 ± 1.76) (P < 0.05). The highest bond strength for biodentine group was observed with total-etch group (8.54 ± 1.35 Mpa) and two-step SE (8.19 ± 1.94 Mpa) bonded at 72 h interval (P < 0.05). The majority of the samples in the MTA group (29/42) and CEM group (20/42) showed a cohesive fracture, whereas Biodentine group (22/42) had an adhesive fracture in most of its samples. Conclusion: MTA demonstrated the highest bond strength with two-step SE group at 15 min, and CEM exhibited the highest bond strength with two-step SE groups at 72 h interval. The aim of this study was to design and assess composite resin composition for patient-specific esthetic color-graded temporary veneer. Various compositions of composite structures (assorted by Ba 2 SiO 4 filler, TiO 2 pigment, and photoinitiator) were prepared via additive manufacturing with 3 s UV exposure (405 nm, 10 W/cm2) per 50 µm thick layer followed by 20 min post-curing treatment after fabrication. The effect of each component on the generated color shades was observed and compared to the commonly used VITA shade guide. The coloration was explored by staining aging treatment under dry, wet, artificial saliva environments, coffee, and cola. The mechanical properties were also evaluated. Color measurement and comparison were done using a colorimeter (lightness (L*), green-red color (a*), and blue-yellow color (b*)), and the changes were calculated by CIEDE2000 (ΔE 00), translucency parameter (TP) and whiteness index (WI D). The composition color analysis results were then applied to produce a color-graded temporary veneer for mimicking a natural look. Mechanically, all composition result in adequate bending strength with maximum achievable strength of 111.64 MPa. At the same time, the composite color was affected by each constituent differently. The L* value, which indicates the color lightness of the composite, was considerably tuned by the TiO 2 pigment, whereas Ba 2 SiO 4 filler only triggered minor changes. Photoinitiator concentration significantly affected the yellowness, indicated by the increased b* value. Similar tendency also observed toward the calculated TP and WI D as well. Based on these evaluations, color-graded temporary veneer successfully generated, matching the VITA A3, A2, and B1 shades gradation. However, the stability of the composite color decreased at high amounts of Ba 2 SiO 4 and photoinitiator. The study presents a composition guide for fabricating temporary patient-specific color-graded veneer. It provides insights on the effect of the constituent material on dental esthetics. To formulate an experimental methacrylate-based photo-polymerizable resin for 3D printing with ytterbium trifluoride as filler and to evaluate the mechanical, physicochemical, and biological properties. Resin matrix was formulated with 60 wt% UDMA, 40 wt% TEGDMA, 1 wt% TPO, and 0.01 wt% BHT. Ytterbium Trifluoride was added in concentrations of 1 (G 1 %), 2 (G 2 %), 3 (G 3 %), 4 (G 4 %), and 5 (G 5 %) wt%. One group remained without filler addition as control (G C). The samples were designed in 3D builder software and printed using a UV-DLP 3D printer. The samples were ultrasonicated with isopropanol and UV cured for 60 min. The resins were tested for degree of conversion (DC), flexural strength, Knoop microhardness, softening in solvent, radiopacity, colorimetric analysis, and cytotoxicity (MTT and SRB). Post-polymerization increased the degree of conversion of all groups (p < 0.05). G 2 % showed the highest DC after post-polymerization. G 2 % showed no differences in flexural strength from the G 1 % and G C (p > 0.05). All groups showed a hardness reduction after solvent immersion. No statistical difference was found in radiopacity, softening in solvent (ΔKHN%), colorimetric spectrophotometry, and cytotoxicity (MTT) (p > 0.05). G 1 % showed reduced cell viability for SRB assay (p < 0.05). It was possible to produce an experimental photo-polymerizable 3D printable resin with the addition of 2 % ytterbium trifluoride as filler without compromising the mechanical, physicochemical, and biological properties, comparable to the current provisional materials. • Ytterbium trifluoride was inserted up to 5 wt% to a 3D printing resin. • Inorganic fillers could be used as reinforcements 3D printing resin. • Ytterbium trifluoride as filler did not affect the properties of the experimental resin. Background. This study assessed the effect of repeated preheating of three types of composite resins and a giomer on their color stability. Methods. In this in vitro study, 128 composite resin and giomer specimens with a 10-mm diameter and a 2-mm height were evaluated in eight groups (n=16) of Heliomolar microfilled, Brilliant Enamel microhybrid, and Tetric N-Ceram nanohybrid composite resins, and Beautifil II giomer used at room temperature and also after preheating of the tube in a water bath at 55‒60 °C for 40 times. Objective To explore the effect of Morinda citrifolia juice (MCJ) combined with ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid (EDTA) on premolar bonding strength and nanoleakage and compare the results with those of the most commonly used root canal irrigation solution, sodium hypochlorite (NaClO), to provide a reference for clinical application. Methods This study was approved by the ethics review committee. Sixty-three human premolars extracted for orthodontic treatment were randomly divided into a control group (distilled water group) and 6 experimental groups according to the different rinsing solutions used after the surface enamel was removed. The experimental groups included Group A (2.5% NaClO), Group B (5.25% NaClO), Group C (6% MCJ), Group D (2.5% NaClO-17% EDTA), Group E (5.25% NaClO-17% EDTA), and Group F (6% MCJ-17% EDTA) (n = 9). After soaking in the corresponding rinsing solution for 20 minutes, they were layered and stacked on their surfaces to form 4 mm × 4 mm × 3 mm Z350 resin blocks. Aim: This study aims to compare three different types of fiber orientation techniques on fracture resistance of ETT. Methods: Sixty intact extracted human maxillary premolars were assigned to five groups (n = 12). Group 1 intact teeth (control). The teeth in Groups 2–5 received endodontic treatment and a MOD cavity preparation and restored with composite resin with polyethylene fiber at different positions. Group 2: No fiber group (NF), Group 3: Occlusal fiber group (OF), Group 4: Horizontal fiber group (HF), and Group 5: HBF group. After thermocycling, the specimens were loaded using a universal testing machine until fracture and the fracture patterns were analyzed. The data were analyzed statistically using analysis of variance with Tukey’s post hoc test (fracture load) and Chi-square test (fracture patterns). Results: Fiber-reinforced groups (OF, HF, HBF) showed significantly higher fracture resistance compared to NF group (P < 0.05). No significant differences in fracture resistance were observed between (a) fiber-reinforced groups (OF, HF, HBF) and intact teeth (P > 0.05) (b) amongst the fiber-reinforced groups (OF, HF, HBF) (P > 0.05). With regard to fracture patterns, no significant differences were observed between the study groups (P > 0.05). Conclusion: Restoring ETT with different techniques of fiber reinforcement resulted in the improvement of the fracture resistance comparable to that of intact teeth. ABSTRACT Objective: The goal is to find out how irrigation and chelating solutions change the average surface roughness (Ra) of resin composites when root canal treatment is done on teeth with composite restorations. Methods: A total of 40 disc-shaped composite specimens (Tetric®-N-Ceram-Bulk-Fill-IVA) were used in the study. The specimens were randomly divided into 4 groups (n=10) and Ra values were measured before treatment. Group1 (Gr1) was then immersed in 5% sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl), group2 (Gr2) in 17% ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA), group3 (Gr3): 10% citric acid (CA), group4 (Gr4): 0.9% saline (SS) for 15 minutes. After treatment, the Ra values of the samples were measured again. Comparison of Ra values before and after treatment was performed by paired samples t-test, and one-way ANOVA analysis was used for comparison between groups. This study describes the formulation of composite resins with a novel fluorescent monomer, 1,5-naphthalene-bis(allylcarbonate) (1,5NBAC), and the effects of its incorporation on the selected properties of experimental dental resin composites. 1,5NBAC monomer was synthesized via a one-step nucleophilic acyl substitution reaction. The experimental composite resins were formulated by mixing 1,5NBAC, TEGDMA, BisGMA, a photo-initiator system, and inorganic fillers. A composite resin without 1,5NBAC monomer was used as a control. The materials were evaluated based on their flexural strength, elastic modulus, photopolymerization kinetics, double bond conversion, polymerization shrinkage, color alteration, translucency, and fluorescence parameters. MTT assay was used to evaluate cytotoxicity. 1,5NBAC was successfully synthesized in quantitative yield. The results showed that the 1,5NBAC-based composite resin had similar values of flexural strength, elastic modulus, double bond conversion, and polymerization shrinkage than the control (p > 0.05). The high fluorescence quantum yield of 1,5NBAC allows the fluorescent property in the experimental resin at lower concentrations. Finally, this study showed no statistically significant differences in biocompatibility outcomes. Because of the fluorescence property of the 1,5NBAC monomer, it could be potentially useful in the formulation of resin composites to produce esthetic materials with fluorescence similar to that of teeth. Tooth decay, also known as caries, is a significant medical problem that harms teeth. Treatment is based on the removal of the carious material and then filling the cavity left in the tooth, most commonly with amalgam or composite resin. The consequences of filling failure include repeating the filling or performing another treatment such as a root canal or extraction. Dental amalgam contains mercury, and there is a global effort to reduce its use. However, no consensus has been reached regarding whether amalgam or composite resin materials are more durable, and which is the best restorative material, when using randomized clinical trials. To determine which material is superior, we performed a retrospective cohort study using a large database where the members of 58 dental clinics with 440 dental units were treated. The number of failures of the amalgam compared to composite resin restorations between 2014 and 2021 were compared. Our data included information from over 650,000 patients. Between 2014–2021, 260,905 patients were treated. In total, 19,692 out of the first 113,281 amalgam restorations failed (17.49%), whereas significantly fewer composite restorations failed (11.98%) with 65,943 out of 555,671. This study indicates that composite is superior to amalgam and therefore it is reasonable to cease using mercury-containing amalgam. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: In recent years, tooth whitening has become one of the most popular ways of achieving the original tooth color. The effect of whitening gel can be improved through heat, light or laser. The bond strength between the enamel and the composite can be reduced through bleaching and laser radiation. The purpose of this study is to assess the shear bond strength of resin composite to enamel after a bleaching process using hydrogen peroxide, with and without a laser (970 nm and 445 nm lasers). Method: This study used 51 extracted anterior teeth without caries that were divided into three groups. A 40% hydrogen peroxide gel was used on the enamel of all teeth. The control group received bleaching without a laser. Both the second and third treatment groups received bleaching with a laser, one with 970 nm and the other with 445 nm. After the bleaching process, all groups had etching, bonding and curing of the composite performed. Lastly, the shear bond strength between the enamel and the composite was measured and the failure modes were recorded. The data were compared using a one-way ANOVA test. Results: The mean shear bond strength between the enamel and the composite in the 445 nm group three (445 nanometer) was significantly lower than the other groups (p < 0.05). There was no significant difference between the control and the 970 nm groups (p = 0.2). Conclusion: According to the laser wavelengths and parameters that were used in this study and the results of this study, office bleaching with a 445 nm laser weakened the shear bond strength between the enamel and the composite. Background: To assess the shear bond strength (SBS) of four calcium silicate‐based cements (CSCs) to composite resin using a universal adhesive in self‐etch (SE) and etch‐and‐rinse (ER) modes and to evaluate surface microstructure and chemical composition of CSCs after acid‐etching. Methods: In total, 30 specimens of each cement, Biodentine (BD), mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) Angelus (MTA‐A), ProRoot MTA (MTA‐P) and MTA Repair HP (MTA‐HP), were prepared and assigned into 2 groups (n = 15) according to universal adhesive (Clearfil Universal Bond Quick) applied in SE and ER mode. After composite resin (Clearfil Majesty Esthetic) was applied, the SBS was measured. Scanning electron microscope‐energy dispersive spectroscopy (SEM–EDS) analysis was used to evaluate the changes in surface structure and elemental composition. Results: MTA‐P demonstrated significantly higher SBS than all CSCs, except for MTA‐HP in the SE mode. The ER mode exhibited significantly higher SBS compared to the SE mode for MTA‐P and MTA‐A. Acid‐etching caused morphological differences and affected elemental distribution. Conclusions: MTA‐P may be a more suitable pulp capping material due to its superior SBS compared to BD and MTA‐A. Background: To compare the clinical effectiveness of ion-releasing restorations (IRR) vs. composite resin (CR) in dental restorations. Methods: A systematic search was carried out from articles published until January 2024, in the biomedical databases: PubMed, Cochrane Library, Scielo, Scopus, Web of Science and Google Scholar. Randomized clinical trials were included, with a follow-up time greater than or equal to 1 year, without time and language limits and which reported the clinical effect of IRR compared to CR in dental restorations. The RoB 2.0 tool was used to assess the risk of bias of the included studies and the GRADEPro GDT tool was used to assess the quality of evidence and the strength of recommendation of the results. Results: The search yielded a total of 1109 articles. After excluding those that did not meet the selection criteria, 29 articles remained for the quantitative synthesis. The analysis found no statistically significant difference when comparing the dental restorations with IRRs or CRs. To evaluate the effects of an ammonia-based and a water-based silver-containing solutions on bonding performance and matrix-metalloproteinases (MMPs) activity of a universal adhesive to dentin after 1 year of artificial aging. Mid-coronal dentin surfaces of 60 sound human molars were exposed and the following groups were formed according to the surface pre-treatment and etching mode of the universal adhesive (Zipbond Universal, SDI) (n = 10): G1) Zipbond in the self-etch mode (ZSE); G2) Riva Star (SDI) applied before ZSE; G3) Riva Star Aqua (SDI) applied before ZSE; G4) Zipbond in the etch-and-rinse mode (ZER); G5) Riva Star applied before ZER; G6) Riva Star Aqua applied before ZER. The specimens were sectioned and subjected to microtensile bond strength (µTBS) test at baseline (T 0) and after 12 months (T 12) of artificial storage. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) and energy dispersive spectroscopy analysis (EDS) were also conducted. Three additional molars per group were processed for the in situ zymography analysis at T 0 and T 12. Data were statistically analyzed (p < 0.05). Dentin pre-treatments and aging decreased bonding values, regardless of the etching mode (p < 0.05). No differences in µTBS were observed between the two silver-containing solutions, both at T 0 and T 12. Riva Star Aqua and etching significantly increased the MMPs activity, independent of the storage period (p < 0.05). Dentin surface pre-treatment with silver-containing solutions negatively affects the bonding performances of resin composite restorations placed with a universal adhesive. The present article reviews the literature regarding tetracycline staining of the dentition and its esthetic management. A total of 49 articles were identified in the initial search, and 22 articles met the eligibility criteria of this narrative literature review. Tetracycline staining results from its use in children between the ages of 6 months and 6 years, when tooth crowns are formed; the effects are dependent on the dosage, duration of treatment, stage of tooth mineralization, and activity of the mineralization process. Tooth bleaching is always the first treatment option for low-grade cases of tetracycline staining. Restorative procedures are indicated for severe staining. The article also describes the treatment of severe staining affecting the maxillary anterior dentition of a 48-year-old man who reported the systemic administration of tetracycline during childhood. Direct composite resin laminate veneers were proposed to achieve immediate, highly esthetic restorations. A combination of different resinous materials in different shades was applied to meet the needs of the patient. The use of direct composite resin laminate veneers satisfied the functional and esthetic demands of the patient at a lower cost than ceramic materials. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study aimed to investigate the colorimetric properties of newly developed composites for dental trauma splints using various staining solutions during the clinical splinting period. The clear shades of G-Fix (GF), Ortho Connect Flow (OC), Light Fix (LF), and Filtek Z350XT (FZ) were fabricated into 96 disk-shaped specimens. Specimens from each composite group were stored in distilled water, coffee, tea, and red wine solutions at 37ºC. CIE values were measured using a spectrophotometer at 24 h after specimen preparation and at 1 day, 1 week, 2 weeks, 3 weeks, and 4 weeks after storage in each solution. Color differences and translucency parameters were calculated using the initial and measured values. Within the experiment period, the color differences of GF, OC, and LF compared to the initial measurement were smaller than that for FZ for all staining solutions except distilled water. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of dentin bonding agents and silanization on the bond strength between 3D printed resin and composite resin and compare it with a conventional composite resin. 3D printed resin cylinders (PCB) and composite resin substrates (Z250) were prepared and divided into eight subgroups based on the bonding agents used (n=12). The shear bond strength was measured using a universal testing machine, and the failure modes were evaluated. The bond strength was found to vary significantly among the bonding agents and substrate types. Silane application did not significantly improve the bond strength. Among the bonding agents, the universal adhesives exhibited the highest bond strengths for both substrates. Compared to PCB, Z250 demonstrated stronger bonds and exhibited more cohesive failures. This study assessed the impact of beverage temperature on the surface roughness, microhardness, and color stability of monoshade composite resin. A batch of 70 monoshade composite resin specimens manufactured by Charisma Diamond ONE (Kulzer, Hanau, Germany) was prepared. Initial readings for surface roughness, microhardness, and color were recorded. The specimens were then divided into seven groupings of ten each: Distilled water (control group), Nescafe coffee at 70 °C and 5 °C, Arabic coffee at 70 °C and 37 °C, and cola at 7 °C and 24 °C. These samples underwent 30-min daily immersion in their respective beverages for a duration of 30 days. Final measurements were then taken. A non-contact profilometer was used for measuring surface roughness, a Vickers microhardness machine from Contour GT-I (Bruker Nano GmbH, Berlin, Germany) for microhardness, and a Color-Eye 7000A Spectrophotometer (X-Rite, GretagMacbeth, Michigan USA) for color stability. Statistical analyses, including repeated measure ANOVA for microhardness, roughness, and color, were executed using SPSS version 23. All beverages led to changes in composite color and properties. Notably, coffee at 70 °C resulted in significant discoloration of the composite resin surface (p < 0.0001). The beverage that most affected the surface hardness and roughness of the monoshade composite resin was cola at 7 °C (p = 0.008) The inherent chemicals in beverages, coupled with their temperatures, can influence the composite properties of resin, specifically surface discoloration, hardness, and roughness. To evaluate color differences (ΔE00) and translucency parameters (TP) from mono, bi, and trilayer resin composite veneers using different opacities and shades of resin composite over lighter and darker simulated tooth-colored substrates. Mono, bi, and trilayer veneers (1.5 mm) (n = 12) were made using two shades (A1 and A2) and three opacities (enamel, body, and dentin) of resin composite over simulated lighter (A1) and darker (C4, and C4+) tooth-colored substrates. CIEDE2000 formula was used to calculate ΔE00 considering simulated tooth-colored substrate versus opacities in distinct mono, bi, and trilayer combinations of resin composite over the simulated tooth-colored substrate. The TP was calculated using color coordinates measured over standard white and black backgrounds. Differences in ΔE00 and TP values were calculated with a Three-way Analysis of Variance followed by Tukey's post-hoc test. A1E and A1B monolayer veneers showed similar TP values. Significantly higher ΔE00 values were observed over darker (C4 and C4+), and lower over lighter (A1) simulated tooth-colored substrate. Bilayer and trilayer veneers using dentin opacity provided similar ΔE00 values over the darker tooth-colored substrate. Distinct shades and opacities of resin composite layer combinations over lighter and darker tooth-colored substrates significantly affected TP and ΔE00 values. Objective: To evaluate the effect of different adhesives and veneering resins on the shear bond strength (SBS) of polyetheretherketone (PEEK). Methods: A total of 138 PEEK specimens were randomly divided into 6 groups according to adhesive material application: Control (C, no application), Adhese Universal (A) (Ivoclar Vivadent, Schaan, Liechtenstein), Gluma Bond Universal (G) (Heraeus Kulzer, South Bend, IN, USA), G-PremioBOND (P) (GC Corporation, Tokyo, Japan), Single Bond Universal (S) (3M, Saint Paul, MN, USA) and visio.link (V) (Bredent, Senden, Germany). Each adhesive group was divided into two subgroups according to the type of veneering material: Estenia direct composite (D) and Gradia Plus indirect composite (IN) (both GC Corporation). After the veneering process, the specimens were aged by thermal cycling. Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney U tests were used for SBS analysis (P < 0.05). Results: The highest SBS results were obtained in the VIN group, followed by the VD, PD, GIN, AIN, AD, SIN, SD, PIN, GD, CIN and CD groups, respectively (P = 0.001). There were no significant differences in terms of the type of veneering composite when the same adhesive was applied (P > 0.05), except for Gluma Bond Universal (P = 0.009). All the adhesives tested showed clinically acceptable SBS results. Conclusion: Visio.link offered the highest adhesion to PEEK, whereas the tested universal adhesives may be used as an alternative to visio.link in clinical settings. Newer universal single-shade (monochromatic) composite resins are easier to work with than their multi-shade counterparts. This article discusses the benefits and limitations of two monochromatic composite resins applied in three specific clinical situations: posterior teeth with primary and recurrent caries lesions, anterior noncarious cervical lesions restored without removal of tooth structure, and replacement of existing amalgam restorations for esthetic and safety concerns. Aim: To determine the effects of time and temperature on the viscosity of preheated composite resins. Materials and Methods: Eleven composite resins were heated to 60°C, and temperature analyses were performed at intervals of 1 min until they had cooled to 25°C. The permanent oscillatory shear test was performed at 25°C, 35°C, 50°C, and 60°C for three composite resins under a shear rate of 1s-1. One- and two-way analysis of variance were used for the analysis (a = 0.05). Results: There was no significant interaction between the composite resin and time (P = 0.9304), and only the main effect time was significantly different (P < 0.0001). A difference was observed between T0 and T6 (P < 0.001), but not after T7. The increase in temperature resulted in a viscosity reduction (P < 0.05). At 25°C, Beautifil II presented higher viscosity. Palfique LX5 showed a significant viscosity reduction with increasing temperature compared with the others (P < 0.05). For Beautifil II and Z100, there was no difference at temperatures of 50°C and 60°C, while for Palfique LX5, no statistical difference was observed at 35°C, 50°C, and 60°C. Conclusions: Ten minutes of preheating were sufficient to reach a temperature of 60°C, reducing viscosity by at least 84%. However, 5 min after removal, the composite resin cooled to room temperature. Clinical Significance: Preheating composite resin has potential benefits. To determine how this approach will work in clinical practice, it is important to define the effects of time and temperature in the protocol of this technique and understand its limitations. Purpose: The aim of this in vitro study was to evaluate the effects of three restorative materials and chlorhexidine digluconate (CHX) pretreatment on microleakage in Class V cavities. Materials and Methods: Thirty freshly extracted sound humanmolars were cleaned and stored in distilled water. Sixty standard Class V cavities were prepared on gingival 1/3 of buccal and lingual surfaces of each tooth. Teeth were randomly assigned into 3 groups corresponding to the selected restorative material (Fuji II LC Capsule/FC, GC; Beautifil Flow Plus/BF, Shofu; and GrandioSo Flow/GF, VOCO). Lingual cavities were pre-treated with CHX (Cavity Cleanser, Bisco). The cavities were restored according to manufacturer's instructions using the materials' own adhesive systems. Teeth were stored in distilled water (24°C) for 6months for aging. Specimens were immersed in 2%methylene blue solution for 1 h and sectioned longitudinally in buccolingual direction. Occlusal/gingival margins were examined for dye penetration and scored under x8 and x20 magnification using stereomicroscope (Leica MZ7.5, Leica Microsystems). Statistical analysis was performed using chi-square test with a significance level of p<0.05. Results: There was no statistically significant difference between the amount of microleakage of GF, FC and BF restorations in CHX-treated and untreated cavities (p>0.05). CHX pretreatment did not result in a significant difference between microleakage values in gingival and occlusal margins of cavities restored with different materials (p>0.05). Conclusions: Application of CHX as cavity cleaner has no effect on the microleakage in Class V cavities restored with giomer, glass ionomer, and resin composites. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background.: This study assessed the effect of repeated preheating of three types of composite resins and a giomer on their color stability. Methods.: In this in vitro study, 128 composite resin and giomer specimens with a 10-mm diameter and a 2-mm height were evaluated in eight groups (n=16) of Heliomolar microfilled, Brilliant Enamel microhybrid, and Tetric N-Ceram nanohybrid composite resins, and Beautifil II giomer used at room temperature and also after preheating of the tube in a water bath at 55‒60 °C for 40 times. After preparing the specimens, their color parameters were measured by a spectrophotometer. The specimens were immersed in a tea solution for 3 hours/day for 40 days and underwent spectrophotometric color assessment again. The color change (∆E) was calculated and analyzed by two-way ANOVA (α=0.05). Results.: The effects of composite resin type (P <0.001)>P<0.001)>P<0.001)>P<0.05).>P=0.003) and microhybrid composite resin (P =0.004). Conclusion.: Repeated preheating of giomer, microhybrid, and nanohybrid composite resin specimens to 55‒60 °C for 40 times adversely affected their color stability in the tea solution. Abstract To evaluate the polymerization shrinkage stress and cuspal strain (CS) generated in an artificial (typodont) and in a natural tooth using different resin composites. Twenty artificial and 20 extracted natural molars were selected. Each tooth was prepared with a 4x4 mm MOD cavity. The natural and typodont teeth were divided into four experimental groups (n=10), according to the resin composite used: Filtek Z100 (3M Oral Care) and Beautifil II LS (Shofu Dental). The cavities were filled using two horizontal increments and the CS (µS) was measured by the strain gauge method. Samples were sectioned into stick-shaped specimens and the bond strength (BS) (MPa) was evaluated using a microtensile BS test. Shrinkage stress and CS were analyzed using 3D finite element analysis. No difference was found between the type of teeth for the CS as shown by the pooled averages: Natural tooth: 541.2 A; Typodont model: 591.4 A. Filtek Z100 CS values were higher than those obtained for Beautifil II LS, regardless of the type of teeth. No statistical difference was found for the BS data. Adhesive failures were more prevalent (79.9%). High shrinkage stress values were observed for Filtek Z100 resin, regardless of tooth type. The CS of typodont teeth showed a shrinkage stress effect, generated during restoration, equivalent to that of natural teeth.

This study evaluates the mechanical properties and formulation of dental restoration material comprised of cellulose acetate (CA) from water hyacinth and chitosan (C) from white shrimp shells. The research phases included extraction, formulation, functional group testing, antibacterial, toxicity, water absorption and solubility, compressive, shear, tensile, hardness, microleakage, thermal expansion, and shrinkage. The experimental data were analyzed using probit regression, one-way ANOVA, and Kruskal-Wallis test. The data showed that CA and C had microxyl and amine groups, could inhibit S. mutans, and were non-toxic. Composite resins were divided into nine formulations with different concentrations: F1 (1 % CA + 3 % C), F2 (1 % CA + 5 % C), F3 (1 % CA + 7 % C), F4 (3 % CA + 3 % C), F5 (3 % CA + 5 % C), F6 (3 % CA + 7 % C), F7 (5 % CA + 3 % C), F8 (5 % CA + 5 % C), and F9 (5 % CA + 7 % C). The F9 has mechanical strength close to the control group, with 113.33 μg/mm3 absorption, 80 μg/mm3 solubility, 32.67 Mpa compressive strength, 17.18 Mpa tensile strength, and no shrinkage. It shows that F9 has potential as an eco-friendly dental filling material. The present study completed the development of a formulation for a restoration material by combining water hyacinth fiber and shrimp skin chitosan. The outcomes of a comparative analysis of the mechanical properties of synthetic composite resins and water hyacinth fiber composites containing shrimp skin chitosan revealed that the F9 formulation (CA 5 % + C 7 %) exhibited the following fiber: absorption, compressive strength, tensile strength, hardness, and thermal expansion.

Objectives: The study aims to investigate the effects of laser-activated irrigation on infiltration and microleakage of a dual-curing resin cement applied as a root canal sealer. Methods: Thirty-eight extracted upper molars were attributed to four experimental groups. Roots were mechanically enlarged and disinfected (NaOCl). Control samples (n = 11) were irrigated with conventional needles and three different lasers were used to activate the irrigant in the other groups (n = 9): 2.94 µm Er:YAG laser, 9,300 µm CO2 laser and 808 nm diode laser with a modified black coated laser tip. Final irrigation was performed in each group with ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA), sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) and sodium chloride (NaCl) activated with lasers and in the control without activation. Dentin tubules were then labeled with a red fluorophore (Rhodamine B) and the root canals were sealed with a dual-curing resin cement (Paracore). The cement fixed the dye on the sealed and infiltrated dentin parts. To remove the Rhodamine not fixed by the cement, roots were then sectioned horizontally and immersed in hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). The empty dentin tubules spaces were then labeled with a green fluorophore (Fluorescein) allowing the visualization of infiltration and microleakage by confocal microscopy. Results: Percentages of infiltration were significantly higher in the middle root third of the control and Er:YAG laser-activated samples compared to CO2 or diode laser groups. Microleakage was present in all experimental groups but significantly less after CO2 laser activation. Conclusion: Laser-activated irrigation impacted resin cement infiltration and microleakage dependent on the applied wavelength. Er:YAG laser activation led to higher values of infiltration and microleakage compared to CO2 and diode lasers.
