164. Dark matter scenarios in the minimal SUSY B − L model.

Abstract

We perform a study of the dark matter candidates of a constrained version of the minimal R-parity-conserving supersymmetric model with a gauged U(1) B−L. It turns out that there are four additional candidates for dark matter in comparison to the MSSM: two kinds of neutralino, which either correspond to the gaugino of the U(1) B−L or to a fermionic bilepton, as well as “right-handed” CP-even and -odd sneutrinos. The correct dark matter relic density of the neutralinos can be obtained due to different mechanisms including new co-annihilation regions and resonances. The large additional Yukawa couplings required to break the U(1) B−L radiatively often lead to large annihilation cross sections for the sneutrinos. The correct treatment of gauge kinetic mixing is crucial to the success of some scenarios. All candidates are consistent with the exclusion limits of Xenon100. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Models with a light, additional gauge boson are attractive extensions of the standard model. Often these models are only considered as an effective low-energy theory without any assumption about an UV completion. This not only leaves the hierarchy problem of the SM unsolved, but also introduces a copy of it because of the new fundamental scalars responsible for breaking the new gauge group. A possible solution is to embed these models into a supersymmetric framework. However, this gives rise to an additional source of fine-tuning compared to the MSSM and poses a question about how natural such a setup is. One might expect that the additional fine-tuning is huge, namely, O(MSUSY²/mZ²'). In this paper, we point out that this is not necessarily the case. We show that it is possible to find a focus point behavior also in the new sector in coexistence with the MSSM focus point. We call this the "double focus point supersymmetry." Moreover, we stress the need for a proper inclusion of radiative corrections in the fine-tuning calculation: a tree-level estimate would lead to predictions for the tuning which can be wrong by many orders of magnitude. As a showcase, we use the U(1)B-L extended MSSM and discuss possible consequences of the observed 8Be anomaly. However, similar features are expected for other models with an extended gauge group which involve potentially large Yukawa-like interactions of the new scalars. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract: We generalize the two-loop renormalization group equations for the parameters of the softly broken SUSY gauge theories given in the literature to the most general case when the gauge group contains more than a single Abelian gauge factor. Abstract

Reports on progress in physics 79(12), 124201(2016). doi:10.1088/0034-4885/79/12/124201, This paper describes the physics case for a new fixed target facility at CERN SPS. The SHiP (search for hidden particles) experiment is intended to hunt for new physics in the largely unexplored domain of very weakly interacting particles with masses below the Fermi scale, inaccessible to the LHC experiments, and to study tau neutrino physics. The same proton beam setup can be used later to look for decays of tau-leptons with lepton flavour number non-conservation, →τμ3 and to search for weakly-interacting sub-GeV dark matter candidates. We discuss the evidence for physics beyond the standard model and describe interactions between new particles and four different portals—scalars, vectors, fermions or axion-like particles. We discuss motivations for different models, manifesting themselves via these interactions, and how they can be probed with the SHiP experiment and present several case studies. The prospects to search for relatively light SUSY and composite particles at SHiP are also discussed. 168. Illuminating stealth scenarios at the LHC.

Abstract

Several ideas exist on how the stringent mass limits from LHC on new colored particles can be avoided. One idea are the so-called "stealth" scenarios in which missing transversal energy (ET) is avoided due a peculiar mass configuration. It is usually assumed that the cascade decay of the dominantly produced colored particle finishes in a two-body decay, where this mass configuration leads to a very small amount of ET. We discuss here the potential impact of other decay channels, either loop-induced or via off-shell mediators. It is shown that those channels already become important even for moderate branching ratios of 10%. Larger branching ratios, in particular, into a photon can completely wash out all benefits of the stealth setup. We discuss this in a model-independent form, but also at the simplest supersymmetry stealth scenario which can be realized in the next-to-minimal supersymmetric standard model.
