For many psychiatric conditions outcomes of standard care still fall short of outcomes that are possible according to research literature. One of the major reasons is patient׳s non-adherence to long-term medication. We performed a mirror image interventional study involving patients suffering from affective (N=219) or psychotic disorders (N=210) who participated in an integrated care program focusing on treatment adherence. The main outcome variable was the number of inpatients days during the integrated care program compared to the time before the program. The integrated care project studied showed a drop of inpatient days of approx. 75% within the 18-months observation period for both groups. In the affective (psychotic) sample inpatients days dropped from M=47.1 days (M=62.2 days) in the 18 months before the program to M=10.8 days (M=15.3 days) during the adherence program. Patients with affective disorders additionally profited with regard to symptom reduction, quality of life and self-reported adherence. Thus, a complex intervention addressing frequent weaknesses of routine psychiatric outpatient care and focussing on adherence and linking up outpatient services is effective with regard to the reduction of inpatient days for patients with affective and patients with schizophrenic disorders.

The performance characteristics of the Off Specular MicrOstrip Neutron Detector (OSMOND) are described. Based on microstrip gas chamber (MSGC) detectors, OSMOND is a high counting rate detector, with sub-millimeter position resolution, capable of replacing the existing rate limited scintillator detectors currently in use on the suite of reflectometer instruments of the ISIS spallation neutron source. The detector system is described together with results of neutron beam tests carried out on the CRISP and POLREF reflectometers.

Based on a microstrip gas chamber (MSGC), the aim of the project was to produce a matched pair of high-counting-rate detectors capable of replacing the existing 3He tubes currently used on the INTER reflectometer of the ISIS spallation neutron source. The detector system is described, and the results from the first neutron beam tests carried out on an ISIS neutron reflectometer are also shown.

Territories are seeing their accessibility redefined under the economic effects of globalization and, in Europe, the formation of a unified geopolitical field. The mesoscale -that of the region- seems the most relevant level at which to grasp these processes. They are expressed in mobility behaviour and can best be analyzed through the actors involved. An efficient transportation system must permit the articulation of all levels of movement, local, continental and global. The rapid networks and logistical organization of these fluxes reconfigure the territories through the multinodal axes and platforms of exchange. Member states of the European Union are trying to agree on a planning strategy which supposes equal accessibility of places, even though environmental constraints often check the free flow of that mobility. The example of Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, an institutional region mandated to deal with these matters, illustrates the complex changes now occurring in Euro-Mediterranean regions., Les territoires voient leur accessibilité redéfinie sous l'effet de la mondialisation des processus économiques et, en Europe, de la formation d'un champ géopolitique unifié. The aim of the SPRINTER detector development is to produce a high counting rate detector capable of replacing the existing 3He tube currently used on the INTER reflectometer of the ISIS spallation neutron source. The detector utilises microstrip gas chamber (MSGC) technology as this affords a much greater rate capability compared to the single wire gas tube before saturation effects occur. The initial experimental testing of the detector on both the CRISP and INTER reflectometers at the ISIS spallation neutron source proved this indeed to be the case, but also highlighted a drop in neutron efficiency at neutron wavelengths greater than 2A. The cause of this drop has been isolated to the materials and design of the field shaping electrode. Further measurements made on CRISP along with some Monte Carlo simulation have shown that re — designing the field shaper of the detector should ‘recover’ the lost neutron events. The new field shaper has now been manufactured and integrated into the detector. Further neutron testing of the detector on INTER has shown that the lost neutrons have indeed been recovered.

The development and testing of a 2d neutron detector for the OffSpec reflectometer on the second target station of the ISIS spallation neutron source is reported. Based on a microstrip gas chamber (MSGC) the detector utilises a wire plane operating at zero gain to provide the second coordinate, which relaxes the tolerances on the wireplane necessary for stable operation. The

Powder diffractometers are naturally suited for short-pulse spallation sources, as they optimally exploit the brilliance from the sharp neutron pulses, with a relative time-resolution constant over a broad wavelength range. Their design has considerably progressed over the last three decades, in particular due to advances in detector technology. In the 80s, the first instruments such as HRPD at Argonne and HRPD at ISIS employed backscattering geometry, where the instruments are naturally focussed, and have long primary flight-paths in order to acquire high-resolution data. To improve count rates, large solid angles could be covered but detectors were positioned on a locus that allowed geometrical focusing, where time-of-flight (TOF) histograms produced by individual detector elements have equal resolution and can be directly grouped into a single diffraction pattern.

We propose a modelling framework to analyse the stochastic behaviour of heterogeneous, multi-scale cellular populations. We illustrate our methodology with a particular example in which we study a population with an oxygen-regulated proliferation rate. Our formulation is based on an age-dependent stochastic process. Cells within the population are characterised by their age (i.e. time elapsed since they were born). The age-dependent (oxygen-regulated) birth rate is given by a stochastic model of oxygen-dependent cell cycle progression. Once the birth rate is determined, we formulate an age-dependent birth-and-death process, which dictates the time evolution of the cell population. The population is under a feedback loop which controls its steady state size (carrying capacity): cells consume oxygen which in turn fuels cell proliferation. We show that our stochastic model of cell cycle progression allows for heterogeneity within the cell population induced by stochastic effects. Such heterogeneous behaviour is reflected in variations in the proliferation rate. Within this set-up, we have established three main results. First, we have shown that the age to the G1/S transition, which essentially determines the birth rate, exhibits a remarkably simple scaling behaviour. Besides the fact that this simple behaviour emerges from a rather complex model, this allows for a huge simplification of our numerical methodology. A further result is the observation that heterogeneous populations undergo an internal process of quasi-neutral competition. Finally, we investigated the effects of cell-cycle-phase dependent therapies (such as radiation therapy) on heterogeneous populations. In particular, we have studied the case in which the population contains a quiescent sub-population. Our mean-field analysis and numerical simulations confirm that, if the survival fraction of the therapy is too high, rescue of the quiescent population occurs. This gives rise to emergence of resistance to therapy since the rescued population is less sensitive to therapy., Highlights • Analysis and numerical simulations of a model based on an age-dependent stochastic process. • Optimal path theory and the quasi-steady state approximation show properties related to fluctuations. • Dynamics of a stochastic heterogeneous population under resource limitation conditions. • Explore the effects of noise-induced heterogeneity on the emergence of drug resistance.

The story of Amy and her men ends up highlighting how the traditional definitions of both femaleness and maleness then experienced unprecedented changes. The succession of homodiegetic narrators evokes a complex, kaleidoscopic depiction of southern masculinity, which is shown as being in flux, probably in transition—undoubtedly as having a hard time redefining itself.

32nd European Photovoltaic Solar Energy Conference and Exhibition; 1064-1068, The permanent demand on the improvement of solar cell efficiency and reduction of production costs has placed much focus on the multiple Cz-crystal pulling technique from one crucible. The use of lower quality silicon as feedstock for monocrystalline material is not an alternative track because it is in contradiction to the quest for high cell efficiencies. PVA Crystal Growing Systems Gmbh has developed a novel mobile recharge system for Czochralski pullers, the SiCharger MRS. This systems is capable of handling silicon feedstock material up to a chip size of 15 mm and was extensively tested under industrial conditions. The assignment for a chip size of 40 mm is currently under series of tests, the results are promising. One MRS-system can serve several pullers, presuming a suitable production organization. Investment cost and thus amortization period are minimized. In this paper the MRS-system is presented in detail as well as its operation during the recharging of the hot crucible. The influence of the different types of feedstock on the recharge process is presented. The segregation effect of impurities on the quality of multiple ingots grown in one crucible is shown.

International audience; In "Delta Autumn," William Faulkner represents the transformations of the big woods of the Mississippi Delta in the course of half a century, through the vantage point of Ike McCaslin, an old hunter that is now a mere witness passively contemplating the disappearance of the wilderness he used to know and enjoy under the increasing pressure of the modern world. This paper focuses on the complexities and ambivalence of the way those transformations are represented: while privileging an elegiac tone that laments the loss of the wilderness, the narrative perspective of "Delta Autumn" also makes the complexities of the conflict between the preservation of nature and progress emerge.

Anliegen: Wie bewerten Patienten ein Compliance-Programm der Integrierten Versorgung (IV). Methode: Befragung von Nutzern des IV-Programms „Munchner Modell“. Ergebnisse: Die befragten Teilnehmer (n = 121) sind insgesamt sehr zufrieden mit den Angeboten des Programms und geben Verbesserungen in verschiedenen Lebensbereichen an. Schlussfolgerungen: Die Befragung gibt Hinweise, in welchen Bereichen noch Defizite in der Routineversorgung bestehen und inwiefern diese durch IV-Programme geschlossen werden konnen.

Background: Strategies are needed to increase children's intake of a variety of vegetables, including vegetables that are not well liked. Objective: We investigated whether incorporating pureed vegetables into entrees to reduce the energy density (ED; in kcal/g) affected vegetable and energy intake over 1 d in preschool children. Design: In this crossover study, 3- to 5-y-old children (n = 40) were served all meals and snacks 1 d/wk for 3 wk. Across conditions, entrees at breakfast, lunch, dinner, and evening snack were reduced in ED by increasing the proportion of pureed vegetables. The conditions were 100% ED (standard), 85% ED (tripled vegetable content), and 75% ED (quadrupled vegetable content). Entrees were served with unmanipulated side dishes and snacks, and children were instructed to eat as much as they liked. Results: The daily vegetable intake increased significantly by 52 g (50%) in the 85% ED condition and by 73 g (73%) in the 75% ED condition compared with that in the standard condition (both P < 0.0001). The consumption of more vegetables in entrees did not affect the consumption of the vegetable side dishes. Children ate similar weights of food across conditions; thus, the daily energy intake decreased by 142 kcal (12%) from the 100% to 75% ED conditions (P < 0.05). Children rated their liking of manipulated foods similarly across ED amounts. Conclusion: The incorporation of substantial amounts of pureed vegetables to reduce the ED of foods is an effective strategy to increase the daily vegetable intake and decrease the energy intake in young children. This trial was registered at clinicaltrials.gov as NCT01252433.

This paper is Part B of a three paper series seeking better understanding of how formation parameters (such as composition of the dope solution, the evaporation step, and chemical properties of the polymer) affect the performance of polyimide (PI) membranes for organic solvent nanofiltration (OSN). In this work, the impact of the evaporation step, taking place prior to phase inversion, on membrane performance was analysed. In the next step, the ultimate role of a co-solvent was investigated. The study has shown that PI OSN membranes prepared from volatile 1,4-dioxane could be successfully formed when no evaporation was allowed. Moreover, good rejecting PI OSN membranes were also prepared when only non-volatile co-solvents, such as diethylene glycol dimethyl ether and dimethyl phthalate, were used. The results have shown that the evaporation step should be avoided in the studied system as it worsened the flux while having no effect on rejection. The presence of a co-solvent, regardless if it is volatile or not, was found to be crucial for tight skin layer formation, as it increases the solvent to non-solvent diffusion rate ratio during the immersion step. This triggers formation of a skin layer via vitrification.

This study tested whether varying the portion of low-energy-dense vegetable soup served at the start of a meal affects meal energy and vegetable intakes in children. Subjects were 3- to 5-year-olds (31 boys and 41 girls) in daycare facilities. Using a crossover design, children were served lunch once a week for four weeks. On three occasions, different portions of tomato soup (150, 225, and 300 g) were served at the start of the meal, and on one occasion no soup was served. Children had 10 minutes to consume the soup before being served the main course. All foods were consumed ad libitum. The primary outcomes were soup intake as well as energy and vegetable intake at the main course. A mixed linear model tested the effect of soup portion size on intake. Serving any portion of soup reduced entrée energy intake compared with serving no soup, but total meal energy intake was only reduced when 150 g of soup was served. Increasing the portion size increased soup and vegetable intake. Serving low-energy-dense, vegetable soup as a first course is an effective strategy to reduce children’s intake of a more energy-dense main entrée and increase vegetable consumption at the meal.
