The CO2 methanation technique not only gives a solution for mitigating CO2 emissions but can also be used to store and convey low-grade energy. The basic character and large surface area of mesoporous carbon nitride, (MCN), are considered promising properties for the methanation of CO2. So, a series (5–20 wt.%) of Ni-doped mesoporous carbon nitride catalysts were synthesized by using the impregnation method for CO2 methanation. the prepared catalysts were characterized by several physicochemical techniques including XRD, BET, FT-IR, Raman spectroscopy, TEM, TGA analysis, Atomic Absorption, H2-TPR, and CO2-TPD. The catalytic performance was investigated at ambient pressure and temperature range (200–500 °C) using online Gas chromatography system. The prepared catalysts showed good performance where 15%Ni/MCN exhibited the best catalytic conversion and methane yield with 100% methane selectivity at 450 °C for investigated reaction conditions. III–V semiconductors are among the highest performing materials for solar energy conversion devices. Exposing III–V semiconductors to a hydrogen plasma can improve optoelectronic properties and is a critical step in fabricating efficient InP solar cells. However, there is a limited understanding of the changes induced by hydrogen plasma exposure to the surface and in the bulk of III–V semiconductors. Herein, it is demonstrated that a 19.3% efficient p‐InP solar cell with a TiO2 electron selective contact layer can be achieved by exposing the InP substrate to hydrogen plasma. Detailed investigations employing ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy and capacitance–voltage measurement unveil that the hydrogen plasma exposure on p‐InP leads to charge carrier polarity inversion in the near‐surface region (charge inversion layer) while simultaneously reducing the carrier concentration (charge‐depleted layer) in the bulk. The study provides important insights into the impact of hydrogen plasma exposures on InP which may lead to more efficient optoelectronic devices such as solar cells, photodetectors, light‐emitting diodes, and photoelectrochemical cells. In this study, four new Mn(II), Fe(III), and Cr(III) complexes with two Schiff base ligands namely, 4-bromo-2-[(E)-{[4-(2-hydroxyethyl)phenyl]imino}methyl]phenol (HL1) and 2-[(E)-{[4-(2-hydroxyethyl)phenyl]imino}methyl]-4-methoxy phenol (HL2) have been synthesized and characterized. Different analytical and spectral methods have been used to characterize the ligands and their complexes. General formulas of [M(L)Cl2(H2O)2] for FeL1, CrL1 and CrL2, and [M(L)Cl(H2O)3] for MnL2 were proposed. HOMO and LUMO energies, as well as the electrical characteristics, have been calculated using DFT/B3LYP calculations with Gaussian 09 program. The optimized lowest energy configurations of the complexes are proven. The disc diffusion technique was used to test the pharmacological activities' antibacterial efficacy against diverse bacterial and fungus species. The MTT technique was used to assess the in vitro cytotoxicity of the ligands and their metal complexes on the Hep-G2 human liver carcinoma cell line and the MCF-7 human breast cancer cell line. All compounds displayed better activity compared to the free ligands. MnL2 complex showed predominant activity when compared to the other complexes with an IC50 value of 2.6 ± 0.11 μg/ml against Hep-G2, and against MCF-7 the IC50 value was 3.0 ± 0.2 μg/ml which is less than the standard drug cisplatin (4.0 μg/ml). UV–vis electronic spectrum and gel electrophoresis techniques have been used to investigate the compounds' affinity to bind and cleavage CT-DNA. The interaction's binding constants, or Kb, have been identified, and it was discovered that the new complexes' binding affinities are in the order of FeL1 > MnL2 > CrL2 > CrL1, and the binding mechanism has been suggested. To assess the kind of binding and binding affinity of the investigated drugs with human DNA, a molecular docking study was carried out (PDB:1bna). The acquired results supported the intercalation binding mechanism proposed in the experimental part and revealed that complexes may be inserted into the DNA molecule to stop DNA replication. According to ADMET data, the synthesized compounds have a high bioavailability profile and their physicochemical and pharmacological features remained within Lipinski's RO5 predicted limitations. The novel diazenyl pyridinone heterocyclic ligands and their Cu(II) complexes have been prepared and characterized utilizing miscellaneous analytical tools, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR), and ultraviolet–visible spectroscopies. The investigated ligands are coordinated in a bidentate fashion through the azo nitrogen atom and the hydroxyl oxygen atom to the Cu(II) center. The EPR spectra indicated that the obtained complexes were monomeric, and density functional theory (DFT) calculations confirmed that the Cu(II) atom adopted a six‐coordinated octahedral geometry. The ligands and their complexes were investigated for their in vitro antimicrobial activity against some types of bacteria and fungi. The antioxidant and anticancer activities of the complexes were also assessed. The results show that these complexes exhibit higher antitumor efficiency and selectivity index against the models of human breast adenocarcinoma cells MCF‐7 and human primary hepatocytes THLE‐2 than the reference standard material doxorubicin. Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a devastating neurodegenerative disorder without a cure. Hence, developing an effective treatment or protective agent is crucial for public health. The present study aims to characterize orange peel extract (OPE) through in vitro and in silico studies. Furthermore, it examines the protective effect of OPE against experimentally-induced Alzheimer's disease in rats. The total phenolic and flavonoid content of OPE was 255.86 ± 1.77 and 52.06 ± 1.74 (mg/100 g), respectively. Gallic acid, the common polyphenol in OPE detected by HPLC was 3388.60 μg/100 g. OPE antioxidant IC50 was 67.90 ± 1.05, 60.48 ± 0.91, and 63.70 ± 0.30 by DPPH, ABTS and Hydroxyl radical scavenging activity methods, respectively. In vitro anti-acetylcholinesterase (AChE) IC50 was 0.87 ± 0.025 mg/mL for OPE and 2.45 ± 0.001 mg/mL for gallic acid. Molecular docking analysis for human AChE (4EY7) with donepezil, gallic acid, and acetylcholine showed binding energy ΔG values of −9.47, −3.72, and −5.69 Kcal/mol, respectively. Aluminum chloride injection (70 mg/Kg/day for 6 weeks) induced Alzheimer's-like disease in male rats. OPE (100 and 200 mg/kg/d) and gallic acid (50 mg/kg/d) were administered orally to experimental animals for 6 weeks in addition to aluminum chloride injection (as protective). OPE was found to protect against aluminum chloride-induced neuronal damage by decreasing both gene expression and activity of acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and a decrease in amyloid beta (Aβ42) protein level, thiobarbituric acid-reactive substances (TBARS), and nitric oxide (NO), and increased reduced glutathione (GSH) level and activity of the antioxidant enzymes in the brain tissues. Additionally, gene expressions for amyloid precursor protein (APP) and beta secretase enzyme (BACE1) were downregulated, whereas those for presinilin-2 (PSEN2) and beta cell lymphoma-2 (BCL2) were upregulated. Furthermore, the reverse of mitochondrial alternation and restored brain ultrastructure might underlie neuronal dysfunction in AD. In conclusion, our exploration of the neuroprotective effect of OPE in vivo reveals that OPE may be helpful in ameliorating brain oxidative stress, hence protecting from Alzheimer's disease progression. Peptic ulcer is a widespread disease, with a lifetime frequency of 5–10% among the general population and an annual incidence of 0.1–0.3%. Ovothiol A is naturally produced from sea urchin eggs with special antioxidant activity. Gastric ulcers were induced in rats by a single ethanol dose (5 mL/kg). The rats were divided into control, ulcer, and ulcer with 250 and 500 mg/kg ovothiol A doses. Molecular docking studies were used to examine the interactions between ovothiol A and the H+/K+ ATPase active site residues. Ovothiol A led to a significant decline (p < 0.05) in gastric juice volume, ulcer index, MDA, IL-6, and cytochrome c, while levels of gastric juice pH, GSH, CAT, GST, SOD, and NO increased. Histopathological investigation of stomach sections revealed architecture preservation of the gastric mucosa after ovothiol A administration. The anti-ulcerogenic activity of ovothiol A includes scavenging free radicals, inhibition of inflammation, regulation of apoptosis, and stabilization of fibroblast growth factors to promote gastric ulcers healing. Myocardial infarction (MI) is the result of reduced or stopped blood supply to a section of the myocardium. Regardless of its potential effectiveness in the treatment of several types of cancers, doxorubicin (DOX) capabilities are restricted because of its widespread cardiotoxic impact. In this study, the protective effect of zinc oxide nanoparticles against doxorubicin-induced myocardial infarction in rats is examined. Zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) were synthesized and characterized using X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscope, and UV-Vis spectral analysis. A total cumulative dose of DOX (18 mg/kg body weight, i.p.) was injected once daily on days 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, and 12 (i.p.) to induce MI in rats. 24 rats were divided into 4 groups; control, MI, and MI treated with two doses of ZnO NPs (45 and 22.5 mg/kg). The treatment with ZnO NPs restored ST-segment near normal, ameliorated the changes in cardiac troponin T, creatine kinase, lactate dehydrogenase, aspartate aminotransferase, alanine amino transferase, alkaline phosphatase, total proteins, malondialdehyde, nitric oxide, reduced glutathione, and catalase.The histological investigation revealed that ZnO NPs treated group showed marked improvement in the examined cardiac muscle and liver in numerous sections.The lower dose of ZnO NPs (22.5 mg/kg) was significantly more effective than the higher dose (45 mg/kg). The effect of ZnO NPs against doxorubicin-induced myocardial infarction in rats was assessed and the results revealed a successful cardioprotective potency through enhancing the antioxidant system and stimulating nitric oxide production in myocardial infarcted rats. The current study aimed to assess the efficacy of duloxetine in reducing pain and improving the quality of life of individuals with chronic low back pain (CLBP). An extensive literature search was conducted to identify relevant studies that examined the efficacy of duloxetine in CLBP management. The primary objective of the present study was to assess the role of duloxetine use on pain levels, as well as improvements in quality of life, using validated instruments. The results were synthesized using a random-effects model. A total of 8 studies were included in the analysis. Duloxetine demonstrated clear benefits in pain reduction, evidenced by improvements across multiple scales including the visual analogue scale, brief pain inventory-interference (BPI), BPI-severity, weekly worst pain over 24 hours and Roland-Morris Disability Questionnaire scores. Quality of life improved with duloxetine treatment, as indicated by the 36-item short form survey (SF-36). However, there was no significant impact on the physical function component of SF-36. The present study provides evidence to affirm the efficacy of duloxetine in treating CLBP. Further research is required to validate these findings and to establish whether combining duloxetine with other CLBP treatments yields superior outcomes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Nowadays, oil spills threaten both aquatic and terrestrial environments, especially in regions with intensive oil refining and shipping activities and high environmental sensitivity, such as Alexandria city, Egypt. Oil spill characterization in coastal populous cities is particularly difficult due to large chemical/physical soil heterogeneities and saltwater intrusion, which represent a major challenges for soil remediation and restoration. Recently, the development of inversion algorithms enables electrical resistivity imaging (ERI) to perform detailed characterization of near-surface soil pollution. The study implements an interdisciplinary approach using remote sensing and an advanced time-lapse 2D-inversion scheme for detailed characterization of oil spill patterns around oil refinery sites in the Alexandria coastal zone. The implemented scheme was able to improve the depth of investigation while maintaining the shallow lateral model resolution. The findings indicate that the mapped oil spills constitute a wedge-like form where the oil moves gradually downward, and it then shifts horizontally towards the shoreline with thinning in oil-contaminated zones under control of tidal action and ground surface slope. Consequently, guided by remote sensing observations, in-situ trenches/wells are suggested to withdraw the oil-contaminated water at the maximum deduced oil-contaminated soil thickness. The applied procedures in this study are replicable and can be effectively used as a pre-requisite to remedy oil spills along terrestrial coastal environments worldwide. Water extracts (OLE), whey protein encapsulated extracts (OLE/WPNs), and silver nanoparticles (OLE/Ag-NPs) were prepared from olive leaves of Manzenllie and Picual varieties. These preparations were characterized, and their antioxidant and biological activities on Vero and HCT-116 colorectal cells were assessed. The mechanism of action of the preparations was studied through tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and cytochrome C oxidase (Cox1) gene expression. OLE/Ag-NPs showed smaller particle sizes (14.23–15.53 nm) than OLE/WPNs (229.83–310.67 nm) and demonstrated lower aggregation due to their high Ƹ-potential of −24.86 to −27.90 mV. None of the preparations affected the viability of Vero cells (IC 50 = 192.19–421.01 μg/mL), but they showed cytotoxic effects on HCT-116 cells (IC 50 = 50.76–196.54 μg/mL), particularly OLE/WPNs. Moreover, the preparations from the Picual variety (OLE, OLE/WPNs, and OLE/Ag-NPs) showed regulatory effects against colon cancer on treated HCT-116 cells by upregulating Cox1 expression and downregulating TNF-α expression.
