In this article, we investigate a distributed online constrained optimization problem with differential privacy where the network is modeled by an unbalanced digraph with a row-stochastic adjacency matrix. To address such a problem, a distributed differentially private algorithm without introducing a trusted third-party is proposed to preserve the privacy of the participating nodes. Under mild conditions, we show that the proposed algorithm attains an $O(\log T)$ expected regret bound for strongly convex local cost functions, where $T$ is the time horizon. Moreover, we remove the need for knowing the time horizon $T$ in advance by adopting doubling trick scheme, and derive an $O(\sqrt{T})$ expected regret bound for general convex local cost functions. Our results coincide with the best theoretical regrets that can be achieved in the state-of-the-art algorithms. Finally, simulation results are conducted to validate the efficiency of our proposed algorithm.

The rapid development of high-speed railway bridges in China has brought enormous challenges to the ballast bed stability on the bridge. With the increase in the bridge span, the bridge deformation under the temperature load increases gradually, as well as the stability difference of ballast bed between different regions. Moreover, the track vibration response under high-speed driving conditions is larger, which can easily cause differential settlement, flying ballast, and deterioration of the ballast bed, thereby affecting the bearing capacity and stability of the ballast bed. In view of this, this article summarizes relevant research work on a ballast bed on the bridge from the perspectives of the resistance, deformation, and acceleration response of the ballast bed. In addition, this study discusses the existing measures for improving the ballast bed stability on the bridge, including the optimization of the sleeper and ballast bed structures. Finally, the main issues that need to be addressed to improve the ballast bed stability on the bridge are pointed out, and ideas for future research on ballast beds on bridges with different spans and structures are proposed.

Rapid advancements in human-machine interaction and voice biometrics impose desirability on soft mechanical sensors for sensing complex dynamic signals. However, existing soft mechanical sensors mainly concern quasi-static signals such as pressure and pulsation for health monitoring, limiting their applications in emerging wearable electronics. Here, we propose a hydrogel-based soft mechanical sensor that enables recording a wide range of dynamic signals relevant to humans by combining a preloading design strategy and iontronic sensing mechanism. The proposed sensor offers a two-orders-of-magnitude larger working bandwidth (up to 1000 Hz) than most of the reported soft mechanical sensors and meanwhile provides a high sensitivity (−23 dB) that surpasses the common commercial microphone. The amplitude-frequency characteristic of the proposed sensor can be precisely tuned to meet the desired requirement by adjusting the preloads and the parameters of the microstructured hydrogel. The sensor is capable of recording instrumental sounds with high fidelity from simple pure tones to melodic songs. Demonstration of a skin-mountable sensor used for human-voice-based remote control of a toy car shows great potential for applications in the voice user interface of human-machine interactions.

In various applications of stretchable electronics and soft robots, soft materials are subjected to long-term load-bearing conditions, requiring them to possess good extreme mechanical properties such as highly stretchable, strong, fracture-resistant and anti-fatigue. Conventional soft materials with a single polymer network typically exhibit relatively low fracture resistance, while commonly employed toughening method involves introducing mechanical dissipation into original polymer networks often require complicated chemical synthesis and result in significant hysteresis under cyclic loads. Designing soft solid materials into soft network materials with periodic lattice structure paving another effective route to improve the fracture-resistant performance of soft materials, which has not been reported in the literature. This work provides a combined experimental and computational study of the mechanical properties and fracture behaviors of elastomer-based soft network materials with/without a precut crack under monotonic and cyclic loads, aiming to present a structural design strategy for fracture-resistant soft materials. The elastomer-based soft network materials are proven to be crack-insensitive, low-hysteresis and anti-fatigue. The nonlinear finite element analysis (FEA) is employed to reveal the underlying mechanism of crack-insensitivity in elastomer-based soft network materials. Both the mechanical properties and deformed configurations of soft network materials with/without a precut crack are accurately predicted by the FEA method. The effect of microstructure geometry and network topology on the mechanical properties of soft network materials is systematically studied. Under various amplitudes of cyclic applied strain, the elastomer-based soft network materials can survive even after individual microstructures ruptured, and the fatigue fracture process slows down as the applied strain amplitude decreases. In contrast to the behavior observed in monotonic loads where fracture initiates at the microstructure located ahead of the crack tip, fatigue fracture initiation in soft network materials with a precut crack exhibits a random distribution.

The climate response of tropical Southeast Asia to abrupt climate change originating from high northern latitudes remains poorly understood. Here, marine sediments recovered from the Northwest Borneo Trough are analyzed to trace variations in terrigenous material composition associated with sea level and palaeoflood activities over the past 40 ka. We describe for the first time the influence of sea level change on terrigenous deposition from a tropical island with small mountainous rivers surrounded by narrow continental shelves and the coupling between North Atlantic dynamics and climate feedbacks in tropical Southeast Asia during the Dansgaard‐Oeschger stadials. This study demonstrates that climate oscillations occurring at high northern latitudes can be transmitted to tropical Southeast Asia through the functions of sea level, the East Asian winter monsoon and the Intertropical Convergence Zone. Such information is fundamental to correctly assessing future sea level rise and flood risks in tropical Southeast Asia. Sea level rise and extreme climate events are two global climate issues currently faced by humanity under the background of global warming. However, the climate feedbacks in tropical Southeast Asia remain unknown, although portions of this region are now densely populated. Here, a gravity core retrieved from the Northwest (NW) Borneo Trough is employed to reveal variations in terrigenous material composition and their controlling factors over the past 40 ka. We found that the terrigenous sediments delivered to the NW Borneo Trough are primarily sourced from NW Borneo, and their deposition is mainly controlled by sea level change and flooding. Further in‐depth analysis reveals that northern high‐latitude cooling could cause floods in NW Borneo both in the modern and during the past by influencing the East Asian winter monsoon (EAWM) and/or the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ). Furthermore, our new records suggest that a stronger EAWM during cold stadials could have transported high levels of northerly moisture to NW Borneo, resulting in relatively higher speleothem δ18O values in NW Borneo. In short, abrupt climate changes in the high‐latitude Northern Hemisphere can be transmitted to tropical Southeast Asia through the functions of sea level, the EAWM and the ITCZ. Magnetic greigite may be a valuable indicator for methane emissions in the geological past, if its formation pathway and diagenetic environment can be unambiguously defined. Here, we investigate sulfur isotopic compositions of iron sulfides and ferrous iron concentrations of thick greigite‐bearing sediments (TGBSs) in the South Yellow Sea, a shallow marginal sea with strong methane emissions. For the first time, isotopically heavy iron sulfides (up to 28.7‰ in δ34S and 0.19‰ in Δ33S) and enrichments of ferrous iron in the TGBSs are observed. We interpret the data as indicating synchronic occurrences of anaerobic oxidation of methane coupled to sulfate and iron reductions, which occur in coastal methanic zones with limited sulfate availability and therefore probably imply leakages of methane. Consequently, we suggest that greigite is a promising geological indicator for tracing methane liberated from coastal sediments, accounting for ∼60% of the currently rising global marine methane budget. Greigite (Fe3S4) is an easily detected ferromagnetic mineral and extensively observed in shallow coastal sediments, where strong methane emissions to the atmosphere prevail. It probably forms in a relatively sulfur‐poor environment associated with the consumption of methane by sulfate reduction. Here, we found a unique sulfur isotope fingerprinting in iron sulfides and enrichment of ferrous iron in these greigite‐bearing sediments, likely defining a methanic condition associated with potential coastal methane leakages. Our study highlights the intrinsic linkage between methane and greigite formation, supports that greigite may be a potential indicator for quantifying the global natural methane budget, and therefore has paleoenvironmental implications for geological global warming events. This paper is concerned with the exponential stability analysis of genetic regulatory networks (GRNs) with switching parameters and time delays. In this paper, a new integral inequality and an improved reciprocally convex combination inequality are considered. By using the average dwell time approach together with a novel Lyapunov–Krasovskii functional, we derived some conditions to ensure the switched GRNs with switching parameters and time delays are exponentially stable. This paper studies an output-based adaptive fault-tolerant control problem for nonlinear systems with nonstrict-feedback form. Neural networks are utilized to identify the unknown nonlinear characteristics in the system. An observer and a general fault model are constructed to estimate the unavailable states and describe the fault, respectively. Adaptive parameters are constructed to overcome the difficulties in the design process for nonstrict-feedback systems. Meanwhile, dynamic surface control technique is introduced to avoid the problem of “explosion of complexity”. Furthermore, based on adaptive backstepping control method, an output-based adaptive neural tracking control strategy is developed for the considered system against actuator fault, which can ensure that all the signals in the resulting closed-loop system are bounded, and the system output signal can be regulated to follow the response of the given reference signal with a small error. Finally, the simulation results are provided to validate the effectiveness of the control strategy proposed in this paper. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The lack of suitable indicators of changes in such as sea‐level and circulation has been a major limit to paleoenvironmental and paleoceanographic investigations in continental shelf regions. This paper presents an environmental magnetic study by comparing two late‐Quaternary sediment cores (DH02 and DH03) from the outer shelf of the East China Sea (ECS). Late and early Marine Isotope Stage (MIS) 3 sediments were deposited in a prodelta under cold coastal currents and an open‐shelf with the Taiwan Warm Current and upwelling. The dominant iron‐bearing minerals of the late and early MIS 3 sediments are authigenic greigite (Fe3S4) and pyrite (FeS2), respectively, which were assumed to be formed nearly syndepositionally. The overlying sediments, however, are magnetically dominated by detrital magnetite. This pattern corresponds well to the temporal changes in sea‐level over this period. The widespread occurrence of greigite in the late MIS 3 sediments can also be used for future stratigraphic division and correlation in the ECS. Additionally, compared to microfossil assemblages, rock magnetic parameters based on greigite may be more sensitive to environmental changes on continental shelves. Furthermore, the inter‐borehole spatial comparisons imply not only a sedimentary hiatus/erosion of at least 30‐m thickness in core DH02, most probably during the Last Glacial Maximum, but also that core DH02 was in a more reductive environment than core DH03 during late MIS 3. The findings highlight the potential of authigenic greigite as an indicator of spatiotemporal changes in paleoenvironmental and paleoceanographic conditions on the continental shelf at orbital or even suborbital timescales. Environmental and oceanographic conditions on continental shelves are vital for sedimentation processes and human settlements, but the reconstruction of their evolution is hindered by the lack of effective indicators. Recent studies have indicated that syndepositional formation of greigite, a precursor to pyrite, is highly likely in shallow‐water environments with rapid sedimentation. Here, two sediment cores meridionally traversing the outer shelf of the East China Sea were investigated. The magnetic mineral assemblage and sedimentary environment exhibited almost identical change patterns, with pyrite, greigite, and magnetite as the major magnetic minerals of the early and late Marine Isotope Stage 3, and Last Glacial Maximum/last deglacial deposits, respectively. This agreeably reflects the temporal fluctuations in sea‐level and ocean circulation. By comparing the two cores, the spatial characteristics of stratigraphy and redox conditions could be determined clearly. This study thus provides a good reference for paleoenvironmental and paleoceanographic research based on authigenic greigite in continental shelf sediments.
