Cette analyse a pour but de defricher les modalites de perception des elements paysagers urbains filmes dans un clip de musique rap, en reinterpretant le background des discours des acteurs locaux. Cette mise en œuvre d’un discours contestataire est analysee au prisme du langage spatial adopte par la camera au sein du paysage de la Clairiere des Aubiers, grand ensemble bordelais au sein duquel le clip a ete tourne. L’analyse du discours elabore dans ce document audiovisuel a pour objectif de faire emerger les patterns linguistiques et metalinguistiques definissant le cadre socioculturel de la Clairiere des Aubiers, tandis que l’analyse d’image a, quant a elle, pour fonction de fournir des elements d’interpretation de la singularisation iconique du rapport des rappeurs au paysage de leur quotidien. Ce faisant, nous nous interrogerons sur la capacite d’un media, tel que ce clip, a reveler tout ou partie de la realite sociale d’un quartier d’habitation via son approche ambiantale et, par la meme, a questionner le role du paysage sur la production d’une identite specifique au lieu de vie ainsi expose.

In Portugal as in large areas of Mediterranean Europe there were important changes in land use and occupation, especially after the second half of the twentieth century. These changes include agricultural abandonment and afforestation of land previously occupied by agriculture as a result of the rural exodus and also of adopted public policies. Thus, the present work aims to evaluate the land use and occupation, the physical (climatic, geomorphological and pedological) and historical factors and the fragilities identified in the remnants of native vegetation existing in the Cértima River Basin in Portugal. Therefore, a general diagnosis of the study area was performed from the following geoindicators: biome; climate; geomorphology; geology; pedology; hypsometry and declivity. Then, landscape metrics from three categories, size, border and shape, were calculated; and are applied to the basin in general, considering the mapped forest remnants. To assess the quality of existing forest vegetation, a field analysis was carried out at selected locations in the Cértima river basin using the Landscape Assessment Protocol (LAP) method. Thus, it can be observed that most of vegetation cover in the Cértima river basin is composed of eucalyptus, and a total of 1220 forest remnants were identified, occupying an area of 8,547.05 ha, equivalent to 15.89% of the basin area., Em Portugal, à semelhança do que ocorreu em vastas áreas da Europa Mediterrânea, ocorreram importantes mudanças no uso e ocupação do solo, sobretudo após a segunda metade do século XX. Entre essas alterações destaca-se o abandono agrícola e a florestação de terras antes ocupadas com agricultura, em consequência do êxodo rural e também de políticas públicas adotadas. Neste contexto, o presente trabalho tem como objetivo avaliar o uso e ocupação do solo, os fatores físicos (climáticos, geomorfológicos e pedológicos) e históricos e as fragilidades identificadas nos remanescentes de vegetação autóctone existentes na Bacia do Rio Cértima em Portugal. Para tal, preliminarmente foi executado um diagnóstico geral da área de estudo a partir dos seguintes geoindicadores: Bioma; Clima; Geomorfologia; Geologia; Pedologia; Hipsometria e Declividade. Em seguida, foram calculadas as métricas de paisagem divididas em três categorias: tamanho, borda e forma; e são aplicadas à bacia, em geral, considerando os remanescentes florestais mapeados. Para avaliar a qualidade da vegetação florestal existente realizou-se uma análise em campo em locais selecionados da bacia do rio Cértima, por meio do método Landscape Assessment Protocol (LAP) - Protocolo de Avaliação da Paisagem. Desta forma pode-se observar que a grande parte da cobertura vegetal existente na bacia do rio Cértima é composta por eucaliptos, sendo que foram identificados um total 1220 remanescentes florestais, que ocupam uma área de 8.547,05 ha, equivalente a 15,89% da área da bacia.

Objectives This study aims to describe the use of patient‐reported outcome measures (PROMs) in myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) and acute myeloid leukemia (AML) studies and the PROMs landscape. Methods A comprehensive literature review was performed in Medline/Embase (since 2000) and ClinicalTrials.gov (since 2013) to identify PROMs used in MDS and AML clinical studies. Additionally, PROMs included in approved drug labels since 2000 were reviewed. Results Overall, 112 different PROMs were used in 168 published MDS studies and 152 PROMs were used in 172 AML studies. From ClinicalTrials.gov, 16 different PROMs were used in 22 ongoing registered studies in MDS, and 24 were reported in 41 AML studies. The most frequently used PROMs were cancer‐specific (eg, EORTC QLQ‐C30, FACT‐An) or generic (SF‐36, EQ‐5D) instruments, whereas MDS‐ and AML‐specific instruments (eg, QUALMS and QOL‐E in MDS; FACT‐Leu and EORTC QLQ‐Leu in AML) were used in a minority of studies. Two EMA‐approved drugs for MDS included PROMs in their label. EORTC QLQ‐C30 is by far the most frequently used cancer‐specific PROM in both MDS and AML studies. Conclusions This research indicated an underuse of AML/MDS‐specific PROMs for these two indications in clinical studies and labeling claims. However, AML/MDS‐specific instruments in development might be considered in future studies.

The overall objective of FAIRsFAIR is to accelerate the realization of the goals of the EOSC by opening up and sharing all knowledge, expertise, guidelines, implementations, new trajectories, courses and education on FAIR matters. To support this, FAIRsFAIR is tasked to set up a single FAIR Data Stewardship Competence Centre which this report defines as a shared hub of expertise in implementing FAIR data stewardship principles, offering leadership, coordination and cataloging services to connect relevant people, guidance, learning resources and curricula in different thematic areas. Requirements for competence centres in general and a core competence centre for FAIR data stewardship in general were identified by interviewing other members of the FAIRsFAIR project to understand their expectations for a core competence centre as well as the resources they will contribute to the knowledge base. Furthermore, we carried out a broad characterisation of current competence centres enriched with case studies of good examples for certain aspects of a competence centre. We created user stories for how stakeholders might interact with the competence centres and refined them through an open consultation answered by 106 people, interviews with EOSC clusters, and feedback gathered in workshops at the Open Science Fair 2019. [ES] El trabajo de fin de máster se sitúa en la megalópolis de Lima, en un contexto social, político y cultural complejo, a puertas de su bicentenario; y se plantea intervenir en el corazón de la ciudad para afrontar simultáneamente dos de sus principales carencias: la calidad urbano-paisajística y la ausencia de equipamientos metropolitanos, con el objetivo de aportar a la mejora de la ecología urbana y la calidad de vida de los ciudadanos. La tesis se plantea con un formato de plan director de urbanismo y paisaje, estructurado en dos secciones, una analítica y otra proyectual. En la primera sección, se realiza una síntesis de la evolución y situación urbano-paisajística del territorio, estudiando el marco ambiental, socioeconómico, conceptual y urbanístico, así como el estado actual y la relación con el entorno del área de proyecto. En la segunda sección, se recogerán las propuestas de actuaciones en el paisaje urbano del entorno, y, finalmente, la propuesta arquitectónica, urbana y paisajística para el nuevo Jardín Botánico Nacional de Lima, que busca inscribirse en un proyecto de ciudad, de identidad, cultura, cohesión y diversidad, con un lenguaje pedagógico y de respeto y equilibrio entre lo urbano y lo natural., [EN] The final thesis is located in the megalopolis of Lima, in a complex social, political and cultural context, on the threshold of its bicentennial; and intends to intervene in the heart of the city to face simultaneously two of its main shortcomings: the urban-landscape quality and the absence of metropolitan facilities, with the objective of contributing to the improvement of the urban ecology and the quality of life of the citizens. The work is presented in a format of landscape and urbanism masterplan, structured in two sections, one analytical and the other projectual. In the first section, a synthesis of the urban-landscape evolution and situation of the territory is made, studying the environmental, socioeconomic, conceptual and urbanistic framework, as well as the current state and the relationship with the environment of the project area. In the second section, proposals for actions in the surrounding urban landscape, and, finally, the architectural, urban and landscape proposal for the new Botanical Garden of Lima will be collected, seeking to sign up for a city, identity, culture, cohesion and diversity project, with a pedagogical language about respect and balance between the urban and the natural.

International audience; Currently, the analysis and monitoring of the sustainability of subarctic landscapes in the context of global climate change and continuous permafrost, requires accurate methods for determining the spatial organization of each taxonomic of landscape units. In this article, we present an approach based on the recognition and characterizing the different landscapes by remote sensing in Verkhoyansk mountain range located in the Southern central Arctic region of the Republic of Sakha. The methodology developed combines land cover maps generated by classifications from Sentinel 2 data, land surface temperatures, and digital relief model. This methodology increases the accuracy of recognition of the landscape structures. The approach developed is especially important in the study of hard-to-reach high-mountainous areas and large territorial surfaces, such as the Verkhoyansk mountain range in North-East Siberia of Russia. Six landscapes categories have been identified after validation of the land field data collected during the expedition. Three altitudinal landscapes (arctic deserts, mountain tundra, mountain sparse forests), and three intra-zonal river valley landscapes of northern taiga, mountain-taiga and mountain-tundra in the region of Verkhoyansk Mountain Range.

Research on Upper Paleolithic hunter-gatherer societies has traditionally been based on the analysis of archaeological remains resulting from daily activities. However, the selection of a site and its functionality expresses a set of social paradigms from these human groups. The development of specific methodologies and especially a theoretical framework have enabled research on the locations of sites understood as an important dimension of archaeological research. The aim of this paper is to examine the location variables that characterize the settlement of Middle Pas Basin. Las Monedas cave contains an important Paleolithic graphic ensemble dating from the Recent Magdalenian. The lack of a stratigraphic sequence leads us to believe that its occupation could be related with Recent Magdalenian levels from El Castillo cave. By means of settlement pattern analysis we explain the relations between these sites and the others from Monte Castillo.

Al Ain, located in the United Arab Emirates, is an example of medium-sized desert city with rapid urban growth guided by two master plans from the 1980s. The present study is an empirical contribution to analyse the spatial-temporal land-use and land-cover (LULC) dynamics from 1984 to 2014 applying three different tools: i) a Base Map of Al Ain Town Planning from 2014 combined with four Landsat images to extract the main LULC changes; ii) a landscape analysis using spatial metrics to determine processes of sprawl; iii) statistical analysis of census data at district scale to obtain a better understanding of changes. Results show an intensive urban sprawl mainly, between 1984 and 1990, with an increase in residential land and in services, very clear in the Western sector as proposed by the 1980s Master Plan. Urban compaction was observed in the Centre and Downtown sectors whereas in the Northern and Southern sectors the urban pattern was leapfrogging and associated to the main roads. Simultaneously, and as a particularity of Al Ain, an intensive process of agricultural sprawl occurred, mainly from 1990 to 2000. The increase was very isolated in the Eastern sector, quite associated to linear patterns in the Northern and Southern sectors, restricted to the north and south in the Centre sector, where vacant land was available, and sprawled throughout the Western. Finally, according to the statistical analysis, the residential increase was more associated to Emiratis, public and private houses, foreign women and religious facilities, whereas the increment of commercial services was more linked to foreign workers, privates houses and religious facilities.

No Brasil, a Política Nacional do Meio Ambiente apresenta o zoneamento ambiental como um de seus instrumentos, sendo importante a análise de metodologias. Nesse sentido, o presente artigo possui o objetivo de apresentar uma proposta de zoneamento ambiental da bacia do rio Uberabinha (MG) com base na noção de paisagem em geografia. Inicialmente, foram realizadas pesquisas bibliográficas e trabalhos de campo para diagnosticar variáveis físico-geográficas (geologia, relevo, rede de drenagem, solos, clima e uso da terra). Em seguida, selecionou-se a geologia, a declividade (classe de relevo), os solos e o uso da terra por se demonstrarem nas variáveis mais representativas dos processos de funcionamento da paisagem na bacia. A integração das mesmas resultou na delimitação de 10 zonas, sendo apresentadas as características de cada uma delas. Espera-se que o artigo possa subsidiar planos voltados à sustentabilidade ambiental da referida bacia, além de contribuir para as discussões metodológicas acerca dos trabalhos de zoneamento.Palavras-chave: Paisagem; Zoneamento Ambiental; Bacia do rio Uberabinha.AbstractIn Brazil, the National Environmental Policy presents environmental zoning as one of its instruments, being important to analyze methodologies. In this sense, the present article aims to present a proposal of environmental zoning of the Uberabinha river basin (MG) based on the notion of landscape in geography. Initially, bibliographical research and fieldwork were carried out to diagnose physical-geographic variables (geology, relief, drainage network, soil, climate and land use). Then, geology, slope (relief class), soils and land use were selected because they were shown in the variables most representative of the processes of landscape functioning in the basin. The integration of these resulted in the delimitation of 10 zones, with the characteristics of each one being presented. It is expected that the article can support plans related to the environmental sustainability of this basin, besides contributing to the methodological discussions about the zoning works.Keywords: Landscape; Environmental Zoning; Uberabinha river basin

One of the hardest terms for students new to geographic information systems to understand is the meaning and application of Aspect. When taking one’s first steps in spatial analysis using data in the form of rasters, the first three things new users are called to learn and use are exporting a digital elevation model, the Slope (land incline) and finally the Aspect (orientation of a slope). While the first two are quite straightforward and easily comprehended even from newcomers to spatial analysis in geographic information systems, Aspect continues throughout the learning process to be difficult as a function with one out of three new students not able to decipher it. This paper attempts to give a simpler definition to Aspect including its analytical significance in geographic information systems.

Predictive modelling has proved its effectiveness for landscape analysis at inter-site scales, searching for the hidden rules guiding the most probable placement of settlements. In this paper, we suggest using similar spatial models at smaller intra-site scales, to discover apparent rules in the placement of activity areas within a settlement. In so doing, the most probable placement of social activities can be predicted in terms of the statistical properties of the precise locations where artefacts and ecofacts have been observed. As predictive tools in an intra-site scale, we advocate in this paper the use of spatial interpolation techniques. Through their application to a concrete case study from Bronze Age Central Italy, the advantages and limitations of this approach are also discussed.

This paper investigates the use of solar energy in urban areas as exemplified by Famagusta in Cyprus. All the climatic and geographic factors were analyzed to compute the solar energy potential for Famagusta City. Next, the solar energy utilization potential in the Social Housing Complex (SHC) district of Famagusta was investigated in detail. The effective parameters of solar energy, including climatic factors, radiation types, geographic parameters, orientation techniques, height to width ratio (H/W) and landscape analysis, were evaluated based on Famagusta using DuffieBeckman and Stephenson’s cousin methods. The rate of irradiation solar energy was analyzed for horizontal, vertical and tilted surfaces of blocks and routes in the SHC in Famagusta City using Ladybug for Rhino and MS Excel software programs. The results of this study showed that the district landscape is very poor from a solar energy point of view. While there is a great source of solar energy producing extreme heat, the solar energy is not utilized properly, as the district is not walkable, especially in the afternoons. It is recommended that pedestrians be helped by adding hardwood trees, by using solar panels to generate renewable power for lightning, and by using permeable materials for pavements.

Anthropogenic actions influence most landscapes and the resulting mosaic is a mix of natural and anthropogenic landscape elements that vary in size, shape, pattern and structure. Measures of landscape patterns can quantitatively analyze landscape structure. This study aimed to analyze the effects of land use and land cover on the spatial and temporal patterns in the landscapes of São Carlos, Brazil, from 2003 to 2013. A set of Environmental Quality Indices (EQI) was used to analyze the susceptibility of the ecological components to the effects of human activities. The Environmental Quality Index of Water Resources, the Environmental Quality Index of Vegetation, and the Environmental VulnerabilityIndex were used to assess the condition of ecological sustainability of the landscape. A reduction in the areas of native vegetation over time was identified with loss of 31% in ten years, representing over 3,067 ha, an expansion of agricultural areas of 40% and consequently a reduction of the environmental quality in the landscapes of São Carlos. These impacts compromise ecosystem structure and ecosystem services, e.g. through impacts on soils that support vegetation cover as the major sources of energy for terrestrial life. The observed intensification of anthropogenic activities and the corresponding reduction of natural areas often lead to the loss of biodiversity and the benefits that its ecosystem services provide to people.

This study is to establish a guide for evaluating the current status of natural sites and determining the categories of existing and proposed Natural Sites according to their scientific bases in terms of their visual landscape resource values. "Visual Welding Method" was used in order to reveal the qualities of the natural preservation sites in Diyarbakir province in terms of visual landscape resource values. This method is done by visual landscape analysis. Firstly the study areas were examined and photographed. According to the "biophysical scoring" method used according to these examinations and photographs, the evaluation of the visual elements or units that have high visual value designated in the field is made. In this scope a source observation form was created. In this classification Biophysical properties taken into account and the grade points were given according to these properties. As a result of evaluations; The Ambar Valley, Hilar Ruins and Rocks, Ergani Plane Trees and Green Areas, ?ermik Thermal Spring and its surroundings and Naked Mountain have been exposed to anthropological stress and have been affected by many corruption. On the other hand, Hassuni Caves, Gelincik Mountain, Sinek Creek Waterfall and Mount Chios remained with their natural landscaping value because there were not many such interventions. In terms of visual landscape quality evaluations, it is possible to say that the weaknesses and threats mentioned in the natural sites in Diyarbakir are actually problems that can be encountered in all natural sites in Turkey. As a result of the study, in specific and general movements on these issues, legal and managerial planning, design and implementation of natural sites in Diyarbakir and Turkey have been suggested.

The fight for the conservation of the Amazon region is anything but recent. Despite being one of the highest biodiversity assets in the world, it has undergone intense transformations of the landscape since the beginning of the anthropic “invasion” occupation. Changes in land use and occupation are observed for the municipality of Dom Eliseu, located in the zone characterized as the Arc of Deforestation. Given this premise, we designed this study to provide a quantitative understanding of forest fragmentation in the municipality of Dom Eliseu – PA. For this, cloud-free images from the TM (Landsat 5) and OLI (Landsat 8) sensors for 2008 and 2018 were used, respectively, for supervised classification of land use and land cover to identify the forest areas in the study area. The areas of each fragment were quantified and grouped into size classes, considering as very small ( 100 ha) fragments. The indexes used were area, edge, density and size, shape, and central. In total, 33,171 forest fragments were found in 2008, reduced to 32,385 in 2018, representing 42.71% of the forest cover area under study. Quantitative characterizations were made with groups of area indexes density and size, shape, and central area, the latter obtained for the distance of 100 m under edge effect. The area mapping infers that the forest fragments in the area are mainly found by very small fragments, smaller than 5 ha, indicating a high degree of forest fragmentation in this landscape during the two years under study.

This research examines influences upon the parasitoid guild of sunflower moth, Homoeosoma electellum Hulst (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae), a North American native specialist herbivore and pest of crop sunflower, Helianthus annuus var. macrocarpus (L.). I approach the system from the genetic population, landscape, and habitat scales to determine the relevance of different variables towards future efforts in conservation biological control of sunflower moth.At the population level, I used a set of 9 microsatellites, or polymorphic neutral genetic markers, to examine the population genetic structure and level of gene flow within the most important specialist parasitoid of sunflower moth, Dolichogenidea homoeosomae (Hymenoptera: Braconidae). I found that gene flow rates in this species are high, and that there are no signals of population substructure at the level of wild versus agricultural settings or local- regional geography. At the continental scale the population structure is detectable but gene flow still occurs. This points to a high degree of genetic mixing within this species in North America and indicates that genetic specialization towards wild or agricultural sunflower habitats is very unlikely. At the landscape scale I performed a field survey of sunflower moth larvae at 60 agricultural sunflower sites throughout the Central Valley of California during three summer growing seasons in 2003-2005. I then compared total parasitism rate, parasitoid species richness and relative proportions of generalist parasitoids to the proportion of habitat in the 1km radius circular area around each field in annual crops, orchards, riparian habitat and wild sunflower habitat. To follow this, I set up a sentinel larvae experiment to test the effects of surrounding habitat type upon the parasitism parameters. In the survey, I found a significant positive relationship between parasitism rate and the two other parasitoid guild parameters: parasitoid species richness and proportion of parasitism due to generalist parasitoids. The proportion of the area surrounding the field in orchard habitat was positively correlated with parasitism, parasitoid species richness and relative impact by generalists compared to the specialist parasitoid. While not statistically significant, parasitoid guild parameters in the sentinel larvae experiment generally followed the trends found in the survey. At the flower and habitat scale I examined herbivore phenology in self seeding sunflower, Helianthus annuus var. annuus (L.) in 5 different patches during three peak bloom summer seasons to determine the relative abundance and within flower-head co-ocurrence rates of the major sunflower herbivores and their parasitoids. In addition to sunflower moth, H. electellum, I found several other common flower consuming herbivores in the wild sunflower habitat in California. One in particular, Plagiomimicus spumosum (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae), exhibited an earlier peak in and higher overall abundance relative to H. electellum and was present in high densities at all of the sites surveyed. This herbivore was rarely found in flowers with conspecifics or other florivore species and was statistically negatively correlated with other species at the flower-head level. This indicates that this species may be exerting competitive pressure within the flower consuming guild in wild settings. Observed larval parasitism of P. spumosum averaged 12.2%, compared to 33.3% parasitism of H. electellum. Two parasitoid species were found to attack both H. electelluma and P. spumosum: Bracon nuperus and Erynnia tortricis. Given that the co-occurrence of the two most abundant herbivores in flowers is significantly lower than that expected by chance and they share at least two parasitoid species, further experimental investigation of the interaction between these herbivores and the consequences for community composition is warranted.In summary, this research demonstrates that while the current population structure of the specialist parasitoid of sunflower moth does not show genetic substructure that could lead towards improved control of sunflower moth in agricultural fields, the role of generalist parasitoids and in particular those associated with nearby orchard habitat could be very important in biological control. In addition, complex interactions amongst herbivores in the wild sunflower habitats may contribute to the differences observed in parasitism rate between the wild and agricultural sunflower settings. These results show that using the tools and theories of population genetics, landscape and community ecology, we can contribute valuable information towards efforts in conservation biological control and sustainable agricultural practices.

A rationale for an individuals-oriented landscape approach to sustainable land-use planning based on an analysis of bio-geo-physical components as well as the human components of the landscape is presented. A toolbox for analysing individuals’ decision-making and valuations in the landscape is described. The toolbox can provide evidence on the drivers of individuals’ decision-making in the landscape and the decision strategies they apply. This evidence can be used to identify communication needs and to design guidelines for effective communication. The tool for value elicitation separates the instrumental values (means) and end values (goals) of individuals with respect to locations in the landscape. This distinction, and knowledge of the end values in the landscape, are critical for the achievement of policy goals and for spatial planning from a democratic point of view. The individuals-oriented landscape approach has roots in geography and draws on behavioural decision research together with a model for integrating “science and proven experience” that is widely used in public decision-making in the Nordic countries. The approach differs from other scholarly disciplines addressing sustainable land-use planning. It is suitable for application on decision-making problems that include trade-offs between values. An overview of empirical studies is provided in which the individuals-oriented landscape rationale is applied to climate change.

Currently, Mars appears to be in a frozen state, with the clear majority of the planet's surface maintaining year-round sub-zero temperatures. The discovery of features consistent with landforms found in periglacial environments on Earth, suggests a recent climate history for Mars dominated by the presence of permafrost and/or freeze-thaw cycling. Landforms indicative of such periglacial activity include hummocky, polygonized, scalloped, and pitted terrains in the mid-to high-latitudes of both hemispheres. The detection of near-surface and surface ice by the Phoenix lander, excavation of ice by recent impacts, complemented by interpreted results from the SHAllow RADar (SHARAD) instrument, further unveil a landscape in the mid-latitudes enriched in subsurface ice.
