Abstract

The existence of global nonnegative martingale solutions to a cross-diffusion system of Shigesada-Kawasaki-Teramoto type with multiplicative noise is proven. The model describes the segregation dynamics of populations with an arbitrary number of species. The diffusion matrix is generally neither symmetric nor positive semidefinite, which excludes standard methods. Instead, the existence proof is based on the entropy structure of the model, approximated by a Wong-Zakai argument, and on suitable higher moment estimates and fractional time regularity. In the case without self-diffusion, the lack of regularity is overcome by carefully exploiting the entropy production terms.

Abstract

This paper develops a dynamic factor model that uses euro area countryspecific information on output and inflation to estimate an areawide measure of the output gap. Our model assumes that output and inflation can be decomposed into countryspecific stochastic trends and a common cyclical component. Comovement in the trends is introduced by imposing a factor structure on the shocks to the latent states. We moreover introduce flexible stochastic volatility specifications to control for heteroscedasticity in the measurement errors and innovations to the latent states. Carefully specified shrinkage priors allow for pushing the model towards a homoscedastic specification, if supported by the data. Our measure of the output gap closely tracks other commonly adopted measures, with small differences in magnitudes and timing. To assess whether the modelbased output gap helps in forecasting inflation, we perform an outofsample forecasting exercise. The findings indicate that our approach yields superior inflation forecasts, both in terms of point and density predictions. (VLID)5361958

Zudem wird deutlich, dass Lesen - und vielmehr noch die Reflexion bewegender Leseerfahrungen - gerade in einer Zeit, in der biographische Selbstentwürfe zunehmend vor neue Herausforderungen gestellt werden, eine bedeutsame Ressource für die Verhandlung der eigenen Identität darstellt.

408. Category-Level 3D Non-Rigid Registration from Single-View RGB Images

Abstract

In this paper, we propose a novel approach to solve the 3D non-rigid registration problem from RGB images using Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs). Our objective is to find a deformation field (typically used for transferring knowledge between instances, e.g., grasping skills) that warps a given 3D canonical model into a novel instance observed by a single-view RGB image. This is done by training a CNN that infers a deformation field for the visible parts of the canonical model and by employing a learned shape (latent) space for inferring the deformations of the occluded parts. As result of the registration, the observed model is reconstructed. Because our method does not need depth information, it can register objects that are typically hard to perceive with RGB-D sensors, e.g. with transparent or shiny surfaces. Even without depth data, our approach outperforms the Coherent Point Drift (CPD) registration method for the evaluated object categories., Comment: Accepted final version. Abstract

Mass spectrometry data is at the heart of numerous applications in the biomedical and lifesciences. With growing use of high-throughput techniques, researchers need to analyze largerand more complex datasets. In particular through joint effort in the research community,fragmentation mass spectrometry datasets are growing in size and number. Platforms such asMassBank (Horai et al., 2010), GNPS (Wang et al., 2016) or MetaboLights (Haug et al., 2020)serve as an open-access hub for sharing of raw, processed, or annotated fragmentation massspectrometry data. Without suitable tools, however, exploitation of such datasets remainsoverly challenging. In particular, large collected datasets contain data acquired using differentinstruments and measurement conditions, and can further contain a significant fraction ofinconsistent, wrongly labeled, or incorrect metadata (annotations).

Abstract

Body composition analysis based on the characterization of different tissue compartments is currently experiencing increasing attention by a broad range of medical disciplines for both clinical and research questions. However, body composition profiling (BCP) can be performed utilizing different modalities, which all come along with several technical and diagnostic strengths and limitations, respectively. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) demonstrates good soft tissue resolution, high contrast between fat and water, and is free from ionizing radiation. This review article represents an overview of imaging techniques for body composition assessment, focussing on qualitative and quantitative methods of assessing adipose tissue and muscles in MRI.

Abstract

The identification of patient-specific tumor antigens is complicated by the low frequency of T cells specific for each tumor antigen. Here we describe NeoScreen, a method that enables the sensitive identification of rare tumor (neo)antigens and of cognate T cell receptors (TCRs) expressed by tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes. T cells transduced with tumor antigen-specific TCRs identified by NeoScreen mediate regression of established tumors in patient-derived xenograft mice. NeoScreen helps identify rare tumor antigens for personalized cancer vaccines and T cell therapies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
