Funder: Isaac Newton Trust (GB), Background: Growing evidence points towards a role of gastrointestinal (GI) helminth parasites of ruminants in modifying the composition of the host gut flora, with likely repercussions on the pathophysiology of worm infection and disease, and on animal growth and productivity. However, a thorough understanding of the mechanisms governing helminth-microbiota interactions and of their impact on host health and welfare relies on reproducibility and replicability of findings. To this aim, in this study, we analysed quantitative and qualitative fluctuations in the faecal microbiota composition of lambs vaccinated against, and experimentally infected with, the parasitic GI nematode Teladorsagia circumcincta over the course of two separate trials performed over two consecutive years. Methods: Two trials were conducted under similar experimental conditions in 2017 and 2018, respectively. In each trial, lambs were randomly assigned to one of the following experimental groups: (i) vaccinated/infected, (ii) unvaccinated/infected and (iii) unvaccinated/uninfected. Faecal samples collected from individual animals were subjected to DNA extraction followed by high-throughput sequencing of the V3-V4 region of the bacterial 16S rRNA gene and bioinformatics and biostatistical analyses of sequence data. Results: Substantial differences in the populations of bacteria affected by immunisation against and infection by T. circumcincta were detected when comparing data from the two trials. Nevertheless, the abundance of Prevotella spp. was significantly linked to helminth infection in both trials. Conclusions: Despite the largely conflicting findings between the two trials, our data revealed that selected gut microbial populations are consistently affected by T. circumcincta infection and/or vaccination. Nevertheless, our study calls for caution when interpreting data generated from in vivo helminth-microbiome interaction studies that may be influenced by several intrinsic and extrinsic host-, parasite- and environment-related factors. Babiano-Suárez, V., et al., i-TED is an innovative detection system which exploits Compton imaging techniques to achieve a superior signal-to-background ratio in (n, γ) cross-section measurements using time-of-flight technique. This work presents the first experimental validation of the i-TED apparatus for high-resolution time-of-flight experiments and demonstrates for the first time the concept proposed for background rejection. To this aim, the Au(n, γ) and Fe(n, γ) reactions were studied at CERN n_TOF using an i-TED demonstrator based on three position-sensitive detectors. Two CD detectors were also used to benchmark the performance of i-TED. The i-TED prototype built for this study shows a factor of ∼ 3 higher detection sensitivity than state-of-the-art CD detectors in the 10 keV neutron-energy region of astrophysical interest. En la Universidad Popular del Cesar, se ha identificado de manera recurrente, que hay una serie de situaciones que permitieron identificar apat?a, desmotivaci?n y falta de compromiso en los estudiantes frente al desarrollo de la asignatura de Lengua Extranjera Ingl?s Escritura (Writing). As? como tambi?n escasas participaciones en las clases, bajos niveles de escritura, entre otros aspectos. Frente al desaf?o de encontrar estrategias pedag?gicas que lograran minimizar las problem?ticas antes mencionadas, se desarroll? este proyecto cuyo objetivo fue fortalecer la asignatura de Lengua Extranjera Ingl?s Escritura (Writing), a trav?s de la implementaci?n de un Magazine virtual, con la ayuda de la plataforma Facebook, donde se aplic? una metodolog?a de naturaleza mixta (cuantitativa-cualitativa), de tipo descriptiva y dise?o no experimental. Para su diagn?stico se hizo una entrevista a 1 (un) administrativo y encuestas a una muestra de 44 estudiantes que cursaban la asignatura en menci?n. Los resultados mostraron que tanto los estudiantes como los directivos del programa de Idiomas consideraron que es factible su implementaci?n, ya que hay confianza entre la gesti?n administrativa del programa de Idiomas y los procesos que se planifican y desarrollan en ella. El estudio permiti? conocer que las principales tem?ticas que los estudiantes desean estudiar con la ayuda de los Magazines son aquellas relacionadas con actividades comunicativas que integren tanto los saberes socioculturales como las habilidades ling??sticas, as? como herramientas did?cticas variadas y novedosas que permitan el aprendizaje basado en el uso de las TICs, el auto-aprendizaje y el aprendizaje cooperativo. At Universidad Popular del Cesar, it has been identified frequently different kind of situations that have made to identify apathy, demotivation and lack of compromise on students toward the development of the subject Lengua Extranjera Escritura Ingles(writing).Also a little participation in classes, low level in the develop of writing skill (writing) and others. In order to find pedagogical strategies to minimize the problems already mentioned a project was developed whose objective is strengthen the subject Lengua Extranjera Writing through the implementation of an on - line magazine with the help of the Facebook platform at the University. This Project has a methodology charactized for being mixed (quantitative-qualitative) of descriptive type and a non experimental design, it was applied the method of an interview to one administrative worker and a survey to forty four (44) students coursing the subject already mentioned. Besides, through this Project it was proved that at Universidad Popular del Cesar students taking the course of Writing and the Languages program managers consider that is feasible online magazines could be implemented in the Institution. It means that there is confidence between the administrative management of the Language Center and the planning and develop processes it has. The research allowed to know the main topics students wish to study with the help of the magazines which are those related to: communicative activities that join as socio cultural knowledges , language skills as also varied and innovative teaching tools that allow learning process based on the use of TICs, self-study and cooperative learning Maestr?a Mag?ster en Administraci?n y Planificaci?n Educativa

In this regard, when considering the interface between health and environment, it is essential that nursing takes a position in the discussion. Thus, the general objective of this work was to investigate the presence of the environmental theme in professional technical courses in nursing at two Federal Institutions in Amazonas. The study was based on the theoretical approach of Systemic complexity, aiming at a transformation in educational practices towards new knowledge, capable of guiding a sustainable world. It was developed at the Federal Institute of Education Science and Technology of Amazonas Campus S??o Gabriel da Cachoeira -AM, and Federal Institute of Roraima. The research subjects correspond to the students and professors of the Nursing Technician course in the subsequent form. The research is classified, as for the purposes, exploratory and descriptive, the approach of the object involved qualitative techniques. The research result showed the superficiality of the themes in the course's PPC as well as in the teaching plans of the teachers. However, it also demonstrated that students and teachers are aware of the intrinsic relationship that exists between health and the environment and the importance in their education. The data resulted in the elaboration of a protocol that inserts the Environmental Themes in the Professional Technical Training in Nursing. O estudo sustentou-se na abordagem te??rica da complexidade Sist??mica, visando uma transforma????o nas pr??ticas educativas em dire????o ao novo saber, capaz de nortear um mundo sustent??vel. Sendo desenvolvido no Instituto Federal de Educa????o Ci??ncias e Tecnologia do Amazonas Campus S??o Gabriel da Cachoeira-AM, e Instituto Federal de Roraima. Os sujeitos da pesquisa correspondem aos discentes e docentes do curso T??cnico em Enfermagem na forma subsequente. Historically, the Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) began with the disturbances at the radio navigation systems generated by the electrical power distribution lines; hence it was referred to as Radio Interference (RI). This disturbance is an Electromagnetic Interference (EMI). Although this type of EMI has been studied since the first decades of the past century, it still maintains a continued interest of the researchers, especially with the Corona Discharge (CD), generated by High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) systems. Because of its design criterion and the concern that this phenomenon may affect the new radio communication systems in the very high frequency (VHF), ultra high frequency (UHF), and microwave bands, interest in their studies continues. In this chapter, an analysis of the electromagnetic spectrum of the CD is presented. The CD is generated at a short transmission line located within a semi-anechoic chamber. To be sure of the phenomenon, the CD is identified by its current pulse, which is well studied. The instruments used are an oscilloscope of 2 GHz and 2 GS/s, a spectrum analyzer, and an EMI test receiver. The results show that the CD concentrates its energy at frequencies below 70 MHz. In the UHF band, only narrowband signals very separated were found, with levels that cannot affect radio communication systems.

The effectiveness on several fruits by the application of alternative methods against fungi is summarized in the present chapter. Several investigations have reported the efficacy of these technologies for controlling fungal infections. Currently, high post-harvest loses have been reported due to several factors such as inefficient management, lack of training for farmers, and problems with appropriate conditions for storage of fruits and vegetables. Even now, in many countries, post-harvest disease control is led by the application of chemical fungicides. However, in this time, awareness about fungi resistance, environmental, and health issues has led to the research of eco-friendly and effective alternatives for disease management. The pathogen establishment on fruits can be affected by the application of GRAS compounds like chitosan, essential oils, salts, among others; besides, their efficacy can be enhanced by their combination with other technologies like ultrasound. Thus, the applications of these alternatives are suitable approaches for post-harvest management of fruits.

Catharanthus roseus is a plant of the Apocynaceae family. It produces over 120 alkaloids, 70 of which are pharmacologically active. C. roseus produces vinblastine, utilized in treating Hodgkin’s disease; testicular tumors, breast carcinoma, choriocarcinoma, Kaposi sarcoma and Letterer-Siwe disorder. Vincristine is used to treat acute lymphocytic leukemia, lymphosarcoma, lympho-granulomatosis and in solid infant tumors. The preparation process of 1 kg of vincristine has a cost of US$ 3.5 million, while vinblastine has a cost of US$1 million. Therefore, 530 kg of dry leaves are necessary to produce 1 kg of vincristine and half a ton for getting 1 g of vinblastine. The high cost is due to the low concentrations in the aerial portion. Due to the high market value and its effectiveness in different medical treatments, this chapter deals with the pharmacological application of the C. roseus alkaloids.

For at least several centuries, sargasso has inhabited the Atlantic Ocean, and there are historical records of these algae reaching the Mexican Veracruz State in the Gulf of Mexico. Blooming of sargasso in the southern tropical Atlantic is a current a global problem from Africa to the Greater Caribbean. Since 2015, exceptionally large quantities of sargasso have been arriving intermittently on the Mexican Caribbean coast, affecting coastal ecosystems and tourist beaches. Sargasso includes two holopelagic species, Sargassum natans and S. fluitans, with several varieties. There are no records of sexual reproduction in these species, and the algae are thought to spread exclusively by clonal reproduction by fragmentation. Although sargasso seaweeds have grown in the Sargasso Sea for centuries; they have not been well studied. This chapter deals with historical aspects of these algae, their taxonomic and morphological characteristics, distribution, ecology, and practical uses. Sargasso blooms in the central Atlantic started in 2011. In later years, the bloom developed to extend from West Africa, Brazil, and the Great Caribbean, including West-Indies, Mexico, and the Gulf of Mexico. The pelagic sargasso is a global phenomenon that must be understood by integrating natural history, modern biology, social and economic aspects.

Since the middle of twentieth century, the concept of Quality of Life (QoL) has been a point of interest for many investigators and clinicians for different health and physiological issues. Menopause has not been an exemption of this, due to the increase of the life expectation, the importance of Women’s Health and the view of this period of life as important as the reproductive one. Many of us work, trying to offer these women with treatments, health solutions, and psychological tools to embrace and enjoy this new chapter in her life. In this chapter, we present a review of the QoL studies on this period and the new trends on treatments and help for these women on health problems, their mental and sexual well-being.
