The author comments on the challenges in the field of test engineering, as neither do engineering colleges teach test engineering, nor there are many source of learning it as increased layoffs and early retirements among experienced engineers are leading to the knowledge gap. It is stated that, the reasons for the difficulties being faced by test engineering as a course of study includes the fact that it is multidisciplinary, combining software development, electrical, and mechanical design.
