The parasitism capacity of Trichogramma pretiosum Riley strain bonagota on Bonagota salubricola (Meyrick) eggs was studied under the temperatures of 18, 20, 22, 25, 28, 30 and 32 degrees C. The number of days with parasitism, accumulated parasitism, total number of eggs parasitized per female and parasitoid longevity was evaluated. In the first 24h, parasitism ranged from 1.6 (32 degrees C) to 8.8 (22 degrees C) eggs of B. salubricola. Accumulated egg parasitism of B. salubricola reached 80% in 1st to 4th day at 20 degrees C to 32 degrees C, respectively, and in the 7th day at 18 degrees C. Temperatures from 18 degrees C to 22 degrees C were the best suited for the total eggs parasitized for female, resulting in 35.4 and 24.6 eggs/male respectively. T. pretiosum female longevity ranged from 7.8 to 2.5 days, at 18 degrees C and 32 degrees C, respectively. The results showed that T. pretiosum strain bonagota is better adapted to temperatures from 18 degrees C to 22 degrees C.

The aim of this study was to record and compare the occurrence of adults and immature stages of honeydew moth, Cryptoblabes gnidiella (Millière), related with grape phenology in two Pinot Noir (Vitis vinifera) vineyards in Bento Gonçalves (29 degrees 10'S 51 degrees 32'O), RS, during 2004-2005. Fortnightly, immature stages were monitored in the clusters and grapevine branches, while the adults, in delta traps baited with synthetic sex pheromone. There were significant differences in the number of individuals in different phenologic stages of vineyards. The highest catches of honeydew moth were registered in the period of dry clusters. The permanence of dry cluster after harvest, could serve as refuge for C. gnidiella immatures between seasons.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the thrombophilic genes in pregnant women with and without preeclampsia independently or in combination. In a prospective case-control study, we investigated four polymorphisms in thrombophilic genes in 75 women with mild or severe preeclampsia and 145 women with normal pregnancy. The genotype frequencies were assessed and the odds ratio (OR) calculated. When we analyzed the polymorphisms independently and the development of preeclampsia, no association was observed [methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) 677TT genotype, OR 2.07, 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.99-4.30; prothrombin mutation (F II) (GA or AA genotypes) OR 8.11, 95% CI 0.89-73.92; factor V Leiden (FV Leiden) OR 3.94, 95% CI 0.35-44.23; plasminogen activator inhibitor (PAI-1) 4G/4G genotype, OR 1.63, 95% CI 0.87-3.05] not even with severe preeclampsia subgroup analysis. However, when we investigated a possible interaction among these polymorphisms on the development of the preeclampsia, the OR for having one risk genotype, one or two genotype risk factors and two genotype risk factors compared to those without genotype risk factors were 1.97 (95% CI 1.08-3.59), 2.21 (95% CI 1.25-3.92) and 4.27 (95% CI 1.3-13.9), respectively. In conclusion, in the population analyzed, the presence of the genotype risk factors alone does not seem to be associated with the development of preeclampsia even in the severe presentation form. However, an interaction among the MTHFR, F II, FV and PAI-1 gene polymorphisms on the development of the preeclampsia was indicated.

Female pheromone glands of the leafroller Argyrotaenia sphaleropa were analyzed. Two acetates were identified as (11Z,13)-tetradecadien-1-yl acetate and (11Z)-tetradecen-1-yl acetate by comparison with synthesized references. The (11Z,13)-tetradecadien-1-yl acetate and the aldehyde (11Z,13)-tetradecadienal were synthesized via a Wittig reaction. A field-trapping test showed that a lure consisting of a mixture of (11Z,13)-tetradecadienal and (11Z,13)-tetradecadien-1-yl acetate in a 10:1-ratio produced the highest trap catches.
